Speaker 1 (00:01):
All right, here we go, Pack twelve fans.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
This one's for you.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
This it's the Pack twelve Apostles, and only the truth
lives here Packed twelve Apostles.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
I'm George Reister, He's Ralph Amsden, and this is the
Pack twelve Apostles. We are more than halfway into the
season of a great college football season, and we are
super excited about everything that's going on. But there are
some interesting things because we had near upsets. Prior to
(00:35):
the week, there was collapse talking should Caleb Williams quit?
But now everything seems to be right in the world
of the Pac twelve. The college football playoff rankings came out.
The ap pole usually has drama. Dabo Sweeney goes on
(00:56):
Dion Sanders says the quiet part out loud. I mean,
this is getting it's getting crazy out here in the conference.
And as soon as losses start, Mountain people start acting crazy.
Ralph people start they start with the crazy talk. They
start with you know you don't. They're trying to deflect
and place blame in other places because they don't want
(01:17):
that smoke.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
I have a question for you. Okay, people don't know
that we talk every day, but I have not asked
you this question. Are you and your valuables, your heirloom
jewelry and whatnot? Insured? This will be a good time
to check up on on the status of of because
(01:43):
you're out in LA.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
One one hundred percent. You are everything, everything is insured.
Because okay, so when so when I was younger, when
I first got got in the league, that's when fifty
cent came out with the song and he was like
and and and getting your chain snatched was always a thing.
(02:04):
It is, particularly in the black community and the hip
hop community. You get your chain snatch, that's like somebody,
you know, somebody gotta die. I mean like literally, And
I remember fifty fifty don't rob me, they know him
down to die for my chain. And I was in
that mentality despite being in the NFL. So I carried
(02:25):
a gun with me in the car wherever I went.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
And you had.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
A team, you had a teammate get lit up yep
in his car, yep, yep, and Richard Collier.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
So I always had a gun with me in the car,
loaded gun in the car under the seat.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Listening to yep.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, not that that's not subconsciously adding to your paranoia,
but but yes, and so uh so I kind of
so when God's get in trouble for guns, particularly in
the league, I get it because it's a culture problem
and it's also a you're kind of scared and people
are like, well, hire some security, bro. Do you realize
(03:09):
that people who are not multi multi millionaires and you're
not that at at as a rookie unless you're a
first round pick, hiring security is not fiscally responsible.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Like it's yeah, you go hiring discount security and all
of a sudden they're telling their cousin where you keep
your jewelry yep, and then it's your security that gets
you robbed exactly. I hate to laugh, but it's it's true.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
And the reason why this is a thing is because
Dion Sanders and and uh Colorado were at the Rose
Bowl and they got robbed during the game. And the
response to it was why they were like ha, hey,
Shaduver was flashing that. I don't know if sha Duv
was one of the people that was robbed, but they're like,
ha ha, these dudes running around with all these chains
(03:57):
and all this jewelry, that's what they get.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
You flash it, it'll get took.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
And on some level, there's a little bit of truth
to that, right, there is a little bit of truth
to that. Like I don't understand why people get on
Instagram flash and money and being like, you know, doing
the money, phone and bro. That is inviting, and especially
in these tough economic times, wolve's gonna eat.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
They they're they're not gonna starve.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
We've had we've had people in hip hop like the
who who was the one guy that h was at
like an Airbnb and the address was in the background
of a photo he took and then later that night
he he got killed and robbed.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Uh pop smoke, Yeah, pop smoke.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
And then uh and then down in Miami, Uh what
xxx tintasion or whatever however you say it. You know
he location settings on or whatever. He was out of
the car car dealership. That stuff is It's real to
some extent.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Yeah, And it's the same thing with with with with
like people who aren't in the hip hop industry and
they're like, oh, I'm flashing my new artwork, MYNUW Bentley,
my do this, and I'm talking about regular run of
the mill, not black people, white people. All the day
you you will get robbed because if if if if
(05:20):
high end thieves know that you got something dope in
your house, they come and to get it they coming.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
To Yeah, but that doesn't make stealing. Okay, it's me
in American culture, it's weird because like I love the
Ocean's Eleven movies, love them like I love old train
robbery westerns. Yep, what's that the Vegas magician robbery movie?
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Oh now you see me, Now you see me?
Speaker 1 (05:49):
I love that stuff like that doesn't mean I want
it to happen in real life.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Well, true, true, Yeah, I like watching about it on
Tell because I love those types of movies. So you
had Dion Sanders come out and say that the Rose
Bowl should pay to replace everybody's stuff.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
That was a bar as the kids say though, because
he said that.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Oh I know, Granddaddy goats him money.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
That was incredible, incredible line.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
First thing, first thing, the yes, the Rose Bowls should
should have the locker rooms insured. Well, they say have
them secured and then insured. Right, that's the first and
second thing would checking your valuables. Okay, so another one
around this would would would be okay, so at in
(06:45):
Oregon's locker room, right, if you go to well at
these school's home locker rooms, they have safes in them essentially,
But in these college locker rooms, in the away locker rooms,
they they don't. They're just you know, some of them
are pink. Some of them like they make them intentionally bad.
(07:07):
So maybe upgrading the uh the visitors locker room or
maybe that's another thing that you if you're the visitors
that you gotta truck along on the on the U haul.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Is a safe to take a safe with you?
Speaker 1 (07:24):
What? How do you think something like this happens? It
It wouldn't be a fan, right like that would be
pretty pretty difficult.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
No, it's probably somebody who works in rolls Bowl security.
Want of the people with the yellow jackets on who
let somebody in?
Speaker 1 (07:43):
And then that's I mean the incentive there is you get,
you get eighty thousand dollars worth a jewelry that you
could turn around and offload for a quick twenty in cash.
You know, you're probably that's a nice little boost. I mean,
I don't know if it's worth getting fired over this
whole thing is it's so weird, man.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
It probably takes a long time to make twenty thousand
dollars at Rosebo Security.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Yeah, what amount of money? What amount of money is
worth going to jail for? And I'm not saying that
like people for me are not for.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Me zero dollars there there is not. I spent twelve
hours in jail one time. Too many hours already. I mean,
but I could do a year for like a billy
if I got to keep the billion when I got out,
I can. I can do a year, no more, though
not a year in one one day.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Yeah, as an adult, I don't think there's any reason
for me to be spending time in jee. I got
some family members that did some like high level sophisticated
thievery and and did some years in jail for it.
Very fascinating stuff. But I I mean I used to
steal every weekend from Target. They used to steal candy
(08:59):
because I was like, if the movie theaters trying to
steal from me by charge, if the movie theater is
trying to steal from me by charging eight dollars for twizzlers,
when I could go cost Target fifty cents for those
same twizzlers, and oh in my pocket. Like I was
just saying that.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
One time, bro, I stole something one time, well actually
two times in my life. Well, once stole it and
another time associated with some thievery. One time I was
in fifth grade and I was going to Mesquite Elementary
and we used to play ball out in the street
and my dad had bought us some tennis balls, like
(09:39):
a pack of three tennis balls.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
And.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Uh, but we lost them, like super quick, super quick,
all three tennis balls. And so I was in charge
of the shed at school and so I was like, oh,
we have hella tennis balls in here. So I just
took a couple of tennis balls. I told one kid
that I went to school with who I was like, yo,
(10:06):
you should come play with play with us. He was like,
we don't have any tennis balls. I was like here,
looks he look, I got it. I got a We're good.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
He goes and goes to go snitch.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
And then they call my dad up there and my
dad's like, yo, I just bought the boy some tennis balls.
And he's like, George, did you steal the He pulled
pulled me inside, George, did you steal the tennis balls? No, Dad,
I didn't take the tennis balls. He went in there.
My son didn't say he took tennis balls. You better
come like he went off. And then the teacher was like, well, see,
(10:36):
look here are the tennis balls. These are special tennis
balls because they are from this company and they only
come here. Here's the order for him, blah blah blah,
and he was he looked at me. Bro I got home.
I got the worst whooping I ever got my entire
and I didn't steal anything else. And then the and
(10:56):
then fast forward. I'm in college and I'm riding in
a car with the a few of my teammates. I
knew whose car. We knew whose car this was. It
had gotten in an accident. Like the trunk was like
like they got rear ended Trump so the trunk can't
close and we're just driving by. It was a crime
(11:17):
of an opportunity. Dude in the front seat says.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Hey, yo yo, like, let's well no, no.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Pull back, pull back that that that that car is there?
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Oh man, they got them speakers in the in in
the back.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
I just saw them. I'm gonna snatch them speakers out.
Homeboy snatches the speakers out, puts them in the back
of the car that we were riding in. Mind you,
I had no I actually said, let's not do this right,
So I'm in the right.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Okay, excuse me, excuse me, I protest.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Yes exactly. I was like, bro, just leave below. They
just got in a car accident.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Just chill.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
And then I was like, bro, you don't even have
a car. You don't even have a car. What are
you gonna do with these?
Speaker 2 (12:04):
He was like, I don't Well when when whenever I
get a car, I'll I have them.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
So he puts them in his house. So like a
year later, I have a car. At the time, I'm like, hey, yo,
you still got.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Them speakers.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
He was, and he was like, yeah, bro, I still
got him. I said, are you gonna use him? You
still got a car? He was like nah. And he
was like, well, you can use them until I get
a car and whatever. Right, okay, cool. I put them
in my car. I buy an amp, I go get it,
put in like I'm beating down the block in my
little camera, and then I decide to uh oh. So
(12:49):
then I end up I have that car for a while.
I go to the NFL. I give that car to
my sister Mariama, who is you know, in high school
at the time. So I'm twenty one, she's sixteen, give
her the car. She's like, hell, yeah, I got a
new car. I'm beating everything. So she keeps the car.
She gets a scholarship to go play basketball at cal
(13:11):
State Fulletin. She goes to go play ball at cow
State Bulletin. One day, I'm in Jacksonville and she calls
me crying in the middle of the night.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
George, somebody broke it to my car.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
They stole the amp, they stole the box out of
the back, blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
I start laughing.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
And because I'm of a Christian, I believe that if
you steal something, you got to pay it back seven
seven times seventy. I mean time at time seven, all
of that stuff, even if it's not so. But I
didn't steal it, but I knowingly took stolen property.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Aye a year later, right, yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
So, and I'm sitting there and I'm saying and she
was like, why are you laughing?
Speaker 2 (13:51):
It's not funny.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
I was like, Mario, Emma, I will buy you some
news speakers. Don't worry about it. She was like, Okay,
that's fine, but what's so funny? And I told her
the story about how I got him. She was like, oh,
I see why that's funny now. So yeah, So and
from that day I was like, I will never in
my life still anything ever again. Even though I didn't
(14:15):
steal that, I still was somewhat responsible.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
I feel the same way. And I got stories for
days on this. And if you google my name, doctor
Pepper and Mercedes, you'll be very surprised at what comes up.
But but I will say, like, I do feel the
same way. You know. I used to take like candy,
basketball cards, stuff like that as a kid. I even
got banned for life from Albertson's. I stole a pack
(14:42):
of basketball cards. The cashier was like, hey, put those back,
and my stepmom walked up and she's like, what's happening here,
and like, well, we caught your son stealing, and we're
just gonna warn him and let him go. And she's like, no,
you punish him to the fullest extent and make sure
he never does it again. So they turned around, find
her one hundred dollars and banned her because I was
(15:02):
her ward, they banned her from Albertson's for ten years.
So my mom got banned. My stepmom got banned from
the grocery store we shopped at for ten years, which,
by the way, later got converted into a junior high
that I was a teacher at. So that was a
nice bit of irony. But like I used to do
stuff like that as a kid, and then I was like, man,
(15:23):
I'm never doing this again, but you can bet your
ass that this morning because it's November first, right, this
November first, at eight thirty in the morning, I was
in my kid's Halloween bags stealing candy. So still crime
of opportunity, yep. But I say all that to say this,
like what happened is not cool. There's a lot of
(15:44):
people they're going to tell you, like, but you have
to operate in a world where you can get jacked
at any time, so you have to roll with wisdom.
But that still doesn't make it your fault that somebody
else is.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Stealing, correct.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
It's not like you're out there on a field with
it with it on. So yeah, so well, so the
question is, actually, no, his brother probably wears it during
the game, so nobody can steal it. So the the
(16:19):
so yes, the rosebus shit have insurance, but you should
also have these things. And I know that these are
young kids and they should have him on their renters
insurance policies, but they probably don't.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
So it's I'm just.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Not excited for the nil discourse to be like, well
this is a byproduct of nil, Like no, yeah, really,
kids steal things.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Absolutely all right.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Next thing up, Dabbo Sweeney, Right, did you see him
on the talk show where he went off on the
kid that that said that he was He was like,
you're you're we don't pay you off this money to
go four and four was like, I'm a grown man,
grown man, you ain't gonna talk to me crazy.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
We've won so much here, blah blah blah. I work
my way up. I earned this, and.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
I mean, this is the nature of the business that
you got in though, Dabbo. I mean, and Dabbo is
going to go down. I believe with the with the
ship like, he is not going to change. He's I
don't think he's gonna be willing to get in the portal,
(17:34):
uh plug his holes and stuff like that, which is
I do believe on some level that just raiding the portal.
I'm not talking about for new coaches, right, I'm talking
about for coaches who have been at a place for
a period of time. If you've been there three years
or longer and you're having heavy portals. I think that
(17:58):
it showed like like that you are like, listen, I
got so many holes on my roster. But I think
it can make you lazy in recruiting because then you
can say, well, if this kid don't work out, well
we'll we'll just process them and and pit pick a
kid out of the portal.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
And remember.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Like that that rosters are built based on development on
some level that you that you cannot just build out
of the portal. And I keep and we tried to
talk about this when it came to Dion Sanders and Colorado,
and people did not want to hear it. They're like, oh,
you're not believing in Dion.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Watch this.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
He's done a remarkable job so far. But you see
the problems that they're having on the offensive line and
problem George Chador got sacked seven times in the UCLA
game which I was at, and he got hit another
(18:57):
twenty plus knockdown and hit another twenty plus times. Thirty
times what whatever your calculation is. And it was hard
to watch, and you're sitting there saying, all right, so
how do they fix this? And Dion after the game
was like, Yo, we're gonna go get new linement. And
(19:18):
this is what we talked about about the portal. Ralph is, Yes,
you can pull people out of the portal, right, but
who is in the portal For the most part, people
who weren't playing at other locations, and some of them
weren't playing because of politics, or there's somebody really good
(19:40):
in front of them who was either younger or like,
there are some really good players in the portal, but
the majority of the players in the portal are probably
in the wrong spot. You mean, like to where they
may have gone to a Power five program and they
would actually thrive at a G five program.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Right because they developed early. So you got you got
guys that went Power five because they were balling out
in high school, but they maxed out on their on
their development. And that you know, there's there's a bunch
of issues you have. Probably conservatively thirty percent of college
coaches still on some level, believe injuries are a character
(20:22):
issue and treat players accordingly. And so as players naturally
get banged up, they fall out of favor and they
feel unwelcome to me, that's a coaching issue. You have
the whole issue of five schools recruit you, and they're
all good options, and they all want you, and you
choose one, and you're always thinking about the diverting timelines
(20:44):
and what if and you can't get that out of
your head. It makes it really difficult when you have
as many options as people do to not have fomo
fomo if you're missing out right is one of is
one of the biggest like curses of the current generation
of kids coming up, because they meet people at all
these different schools. They're still following all these different schools
on social media. They see the things that are happening
(21:05):
over there and they wonder what if. So they're never
really being where their feet are at, and that's an
issue with the kids. And then you have the fact
that most assistant coaches last on average two to two
and a half years, and you usually go to play
for an assistant. They say, don't commit to the coach,
commit to the school. But if that was a real
true thing, then you wouldn't have assistants making a million
(21:26):
dollars a year because they know for a fact the
reason they hire these people is because they're good recruiters.
And then the recruiters come out and tell you the
opposite of what they want for you, which is to
commit to the school, not the coach, and you get
a new coach in they want to build the roster
their way. It's all this human nature stuff, all convoluting
into people not being happy in their spots. But very rarely,
(21:50):
and sometimes it is the case with offensive linemen, very
rarely do you get somebody that outperforms their station and
is just looking to cash in on their skill set.
You have many twenty group of five oh linemen a
year who are able to say I was all Conference
Mountain West. Let me step it up and see what
(22:10):
I can do against better competition. But the problem with
those twenty guys Georgie is who wants them?
Speaker 3 (22:17):
Like Oregon who got a Johnny Cornelius from Rhode Island
or you know, or Alabama is looking for one or
two and of the elite ones, like of those twenty,
maybe ten of them can can like be on a
top tier level program.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
So and there are.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Out of one hundred and twenty eight colleges, well one
hundred and thirty Division one programs, all of them are
probably looking for at least one lineman.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
All of them, all of them.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
So it's going to be very difficult. And then the
top tier ones don't transfer really unless it's the situation
at Ralph.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Just detail.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
The top tier ones don't because they are more stable
people than than quarterbacks. Yeah, wide receivers and well sorry
state stable people is probably not exactly the right now.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Have different priorities, have different priorities, right Like if you,
if you're in the mindset of I'm gonna be an
offensive lineman, you're probably not. As you know, maybe you
fantasize about getting a big boy touchdown someday, but it's
not about the flash for you. It's about it's about
working on the line, you know, like that that mindset.
(23:41):
I mean you you have played alongside of some of
the best offensive linemen in the world. They have a
different mindset.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Do they not?
Speaker 1 (23:49):
Yep?
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Yes so.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
And Dion is flashy. I'm not saying he's all about flat.
I'm not criticizing him in the way that some people
have saying that he's all flash, no substance. That's not true.
We know that's not true. But do you think offensive
linemen when every college in the country wants them, are
gonna say Dion is my meal ticket? When Dion can't
(24:12):
develop the o linemen that are currently on his roster
to the point where he's publicly pining for people who
are on other teams to come in and take their place.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
So, so is that okay? Is the question?
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Is it okay for Dion to be out here saying
we need better players?
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (24:36):
I think that if you are close. I think it's
not very palatable to the fan, to the consumer. What
Pat and Arduci did to me is worse because he's
like supposed to be the player advocate and he was
out here saying, well, I guess I didn't collect good
enough players. But for Deon's never really been anything other
than this, so it's not necessarily a surprise. I'm more
(25:00):
or less, I'm less concerned with whether or not it's
okay for him to say the thing we know that
coaches think out loud than it is the fact that
it's not gonna work. I'm more worried about the fact
that it's not actually a good You have.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
To oh that is that is not a strategy that
is going to prove fruit because Colorado only has one
offensive lineman commit right now, right and you have to
develop offensive lineman. Three star guys turn into really good
college players. They may not turn out to NFL draft picks,
(25:36):
even though some of them do. But you gotta get
lineman on the defensive lineman, offensive lineman. You gotta get size,
and then you can worry about the development. You have
to get size and then and but part of this
is on Dion and the offensive and oh gosh, Sean
(25:58):
lewis the offensive coordinator, because there's a lot of people like, oh,
he holds on to the ball too long and takes sacks. Yes,
there's an element of that. There's an element of that
with all quarterbacks, especially when your team is down. You
feel like you got to make plays, all that sort
of stuff. So let's say that ten percent of the
sacks are his fault. He's on pace for sixty four
(26:18):
sacks this year, which will be a Power five record
in college football, a record sixty four sacks, And so
let's say ten percent of the sacks are his fault.
Even if you want to get crazy and go fifteen percent,
it's still a scheme problem. They're doing too many drop
(26:39):
back passes. They can't run the football, and you have
to find a way.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
If you have.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
Arizona State's coach who's Oregon's office coordinator last year.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Ken Yep Kenny.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
He's dealing with two different types of players, Like he
had a whole veteran crew at Oregon last year, which
all pretty much let Yeah, I think they have to
replace all five starters or at least four to five
and it Arizona State. He's got hurt linemen and not
as good as linement. And you know what, He's figuring
out a way to run the ball. He's figuring out
(27:14):
crafty ways to get the ball out of his quarterback's hands.
Even though there are some times that Drew Pine has
got his ass kicked, and it's part of the reason
why he's down to his well, Drew Pine got his
ass kicked, and that's the reason why he's down to
Trenton Borgay at this point in time.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Who gets yep. So he doesn't take that, and so
they gotta do.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
They gotta run more screens, they gotta do more quicks
because I don't even know how what it would be like,
because I got two quarterback sons, and I know what
it's like when I see them take take a beating.
I know what it's like to see your son get
a sprained ac joint because they can't protect him.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
It's frustrating.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
But then but for me to be responsible for that
on some level as the coach, Oh, listen, listen, I
don't want that conversation because I guarantee you Dion had
to feel the conversation from polar Sanders like, what's up
with you? Bruh, You're gonna get my son hurt and
(28:21):
you need to fix this, and he's like, Bruh, I know,
I know, I know, I know. So then there's pressure
as a dad, and there's pressure as the coach.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
And you're in the room with because be honest, be honest.
When when an old lineman doesn't do what they're supposed
to do and it puts your son at risk, the
things you feel about that old lineman are not necessarily
the things you say, correct, but you feel them because
you're human. You feel them, right. Yeah, Deon Sanders out
(28:52):
here saying it's personal, it's personal, it's personal. He takes
things personal. His son is out there getting wrecked. You said,
sixty four sacks that would be top ten ever in
the NFL for a full season.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
Yeah, it's like Derek, I mean, that's David Carr level stuff,
bro David Carr.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Which was only twelve more than that over a sixteen.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Game season ruin his career.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Technically, Shador Sanders is getting sacked more than David Carr
because if if Colorado and you have to understand, in
the last thirteen years, only two Power five schools have
allowed five sacks a game Kansas and Rutgers did it.
(29:36):
Colorado is about to be the third and five sacks
a game over a sixteen game season. But that's like
ninety sacks.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
He's getting sacked more than David Carr, and he's sticking
it out.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
This mas tough as hell.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Tough as hell yep.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
Now, speaking of injuries, though, uh Jake dickerd is upset
about people faking injuries, that that that accusation has been
leveled against oregonst Troy uh Terrence Ferguson, even though that
would have done nothing to help Oregon at at the time,
like it literally didn't help them. You've had other people,
(30:20):
I mean they will be standing there and they get
shot like by by them, you know, you know how
they do the dog trick where they're like.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
And then the dog plays dead. That weeks ago two
weeks ago.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Dion and the Colorado staff got really pissed off at
uh I think a running back who wouldn't go down
and they forced him to use the time out because
he couldn't even walk. I think it was Colorado.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Wait no, wait, who oh, yeah, because because the coaching
staff is yelling go down, go down.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
It wasn't running back though, I think who was it?
Speaker 2 (30:57):
What was it in the USC Oh?
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (31:02):
It was in the Arizona game. That's what it. That's
what it was.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Yeah, because you because you had Jedfish yelling at him
and he was like, yeah, I was yelling at him
to go down.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
I think that was the Arizona game.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
So that because you have to use a time out
other way, other way you get an injury timeout. So
what happened in the in the Washington State Arizona game
is right before halftime, Jalen Conyors caught a first down
pass that had two seconds left, So they might have
been able to clock it with the way that the
clock stops after a first down. But also I think
there was a penalty maybe so the clock would have stopped him.
But anyway, Jalen Conyers obviously faked an injury to his knee.
(31:38):
He really played it off, had the training staff come out,
had a long conversation and all that. But what was
unique about it is the people who were on the
broadcast were like, and Jalen Conyers fakes an injury. Like
they just called it out right in the moment, which
was so funny. And Jake Dickard after the game, and
I know people like their instinct is to just yell
(31:59):
at anybody who complains about anything. But what Jake Dickert
said is we got to do something about this. He
was obviously faking an injury. And then he said we
all do it. He said, we practice it. So he
was saying, Washington State practices faking an injury to gain
an advantage. But when it happens to you and and
(32:21):
points come out of it, it feels like maybe something
should be done.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
So so maybe maybe okay.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Co So you can't tell the difference between when a
player is faking and when a player is not faking
in the in the moment, right, because you.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
Can, But you can't. You can't say it in the
event in the negative one percent chance that you're that
you're wrong, Like what if Terence Ferguson really did have
a knee injury that then jumped to his other knee
in the moment that didn't jump to his other.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
Where he grabbed the wrong one where like he was
like oh damn yeah, or or again like he caught
it or that, or that he caught a cramp, because
some sometimes that literally legitimately does happen. But the but
I don't know what you can do about it in
that moment. But what you the only thing that you
(33:15):
possibly can do, which I do not agree with or
subscribe to, is say, if you go down with an injury,
you're out a minimum of ten plays.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
Which then if it is a cramp, like come.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
On, yes, exactly exactly, or like I had to come
out of a game because I had a dislocated finger,
you can be back in the next play. They are
gonna come pull it. But he tape it go back
to work. I mean it takes less than a minute.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
Yeah, So what about this if it happens in the
first half borrowing against So it's like first half under
two minutes, obvious situation in which people would execute some
like this, Can you borrow against the next half's timeouts?
Speaker 2 (34:04):
No?
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Because then there's nothing to do in the second half. No, No,
this is this is just a problem to where the
only way to fix it is to like find the
school after because if you find the school, if it's
like ten thousand dollars for fake injury, they will they
(34:25):
will stop faking injuries.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Maybe they started, they started charging schools for people storm
in the field. I'm seeing more people storm the field
than ever.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Yeah, they're like, and then that's the thing.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
If you put a price on it, then if you
put an actual price on it, you might have the
opposite effect of being like, all right, now we got
a budget for this, let's get a booster on board.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
We gotta cover the injury facing the injury the fake
injury fund.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
This might not this might not have a solution, but
I appreciate Jake Dickert bringing it up. And for anybody
out there that's like, oh, you're just complaining because you
know they say you would have done it too. He
said that, he said, we practiced this, but it doesn't
feel good when it happens to you, when it's blatantly obvious,
(35:11):
like in the case of Jalen Conyers. But it is
what like it kind of is what it is. I
don't love it. But at the same time, like in
this situation, as you probably still would have been able
to clock the ball, it didn't affect the overall outcome
at the end of the game, but it can. And
you got Washington fans that are mad right now. You've
(35:32):
got Washington State fans that are mad right now. If
you ask those same fans, what would you do in
that same scenario, you would hope that they would use
the advantage available to them correct to top the clock. Right.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
It's bad.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
It's bad unless you have the opportunity to do it.
So maybe it's a problem we ignore. Maybe we hit
the snooze button on this one. But it is funny
that it continues to be an issue, but only when
it has to you.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
Nobody cares when it happens to somebody else, right, yep,
all right, Next thing up, the College Football Playoff Committee
released its rankings and what was your And so you
have six PAC twelve teams rank Washington at five, Oregon
at six, Utah at sixteen, No way is it Utah
(36:28):
sixteen at Oregon State at sixteen? Yeah, you taw at sixteen,
Oregon State at eighteen UCLA at nineteen and UCLA at
I'm sorry in USC at twenty.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Yeah, are you good with that?
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Yeah? I am. It's a little it's we are down
to two legitimate contenders, so acting like we're not is
you know, there was there was the outside opportunity for USC,
which may be still exists in some alternate universe. But
what you have to understand about the College Football Playoff
(37:07):
Selection Committee is that the first two years, this is
your ten. So they got this down by now, the
first two years were extremely volatile. In year one, you
had in the initial rankings, Ohio State was sixteen and
they made it in. In the second year, Oklahoma was
fifteen and they made it in. Since then, seven consecutive years,
(37:29):
nobody outside the top nine has made it in. Nobody.
So you have to look at these rankings and say,
if you're not in the top ten, there's probably no
opportunity for you, even though two of the teams in
the top six still have to play each other. But
the way the College Football Playoff looks at that is
(37:50):
once they've set that ranking in their head, even those
losses are valuable, so they're not going to drop you
down too far. Cracking the top nine right now. What
Oklahoma is at nine right now, They've got to be
the only team that probably looks at it and says
we still have an outside shot. And as an Oklahoma fan.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
Oh see, I don't, I don't see that.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
I see one other team, well, two other teams that
have a legitimate shot, only only two past Oklahoma. Yes, okay,
I see Missouri having a legit shot only because they
played Georgia this week. If they can beat Georgia, and
(38:31):
they will have a legitimate shot if a couple of
things happen.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
Well, if they beat Georgia, they control their own destiny.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Oh true, true, true, yep.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Don't have a better record than Georgia in the on
the same side of the SEC, which is still doing this.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
And then they'll either get LSU or Alabama or Ole
Miss with one loss, likely in the SEC Championship, and
then beat a top ten team in the SEC Championship,
which will mean they'll they'll probably get into playoff at
that point.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Okay, that's a really good point. So Missoo has a shot, Okay.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
And I think that Louisville has a shot too, for
the same reason.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
As long as the college football Playoff Selection Committee is
not doesn't have the same attitude the AP does because
the AP hates Louisville.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
I mean, I would say that they hate Florida, that
they hate the ACC too, because when you the ACC
has what two teams got, Florida State and Louisville.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
And that's it.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
Eating Notre Dame. Louisville beat Notre Dame in the rank
three spots behind them with a better record.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
No, No, Louisville's thirteen in the in the College Football
Playoff rankings. But you are right about the eight people.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
Yeah, that's all. Yeah, I was talking about the AP.
So where's Notre Dame in? Are they behind fifteen?
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Yep? Yet are fifteen?
Speaker 1 (39:48):
That makes more sense? And no, I would say Notre
Dame has gotten the benefit of the doubt for so
long that this is the first year I feel like
they won't.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Yeah, yeah, because they do.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
Dropping that the Ohio State game was forgivable because of
the mistake having only ten players on the field going
down to the last play literally fourth down, no time
on the clock.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
Yeah, I like.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
I just like Oklahoma at nine because four out of
the four out of the nine years that we've had
the College Football Playoff. The lowest ranked team in the
initial rankings that has ultimately got into the college Football
Playoff has been Oklahoma. They were fifteen and twenty fifteen,
they were five in twenty seventeen, they were seven and
(40:36):
twenty eighteen and nine in twenty nineteen. They've done this
four times, and so there's precedent for But I don't
think the Big twelve is getting a lot of respect
right now either.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
No, No, So can we talk about Can we talk
about though this five six with Oregon and Washington, Because
if you were watching the show, the people on the
panel and even the shows on like they have been
heaping a fusive praise on Oregon after that Utah win,
after that Utah destruction.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
Yes, And the.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
Question is, like I think Washington fans who believe that
they have the best win in the country, which I
would agree with that, they're like, why aren't we in
the top four?
Speaker 2 (41:24):
See?
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Look, they don't even value that Oregon win. And the
way that the committee chair was talking, he was like, Yo,
we at this point really have to value head to heads.
But that could change later. That sent a message to
me about Oregon and Washington because I swapped my Drift've
(41:44):
had Washington in front of Oregon all year. Yeah, but
after that game, I felt like Oregon was the better team.
And I also and since then, Washington didn't score an
offensive touchdown versus Arizona State and took Arizona State not
being able to kick a field goal, so throwing a
pick six instead to beat Arizona State, which is one
(42:08):
of the.
Speaker 1 (42:09):
Two worsts yess.
Speaker 3 (42:11):
And then the Stanford game, if they don't drop that
fourth down pass, they may lose that game too.
Speaker 1 (42:19):
They were moving the ball real well.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
So and they gave up eighty eleven points in that game.
So like Washington, oh man, see, they don't respect that
Oregon went. No, no, no, they respect the Oregon went. You
would have been in the top two or three, maybe
even number one. Had you dominated against Arizona State and Stanford,
(42:41):
you may have been number one. But the problem is
is that you came out and you've looked poorly and
you look vulnerable. This feels like what you have seen
what you saw out of out of Texas and out
of Oklahoma before they lost, which is playing some bad
football before they lost.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
And eventually you keep playing with your food, you fool
will eat you.
Speaker 1 (43:08):
The I think there's enough people on the College Football
Playoffs selection Committee that still understand that the basis of
winning football is being able to run the ball and
stop the run or at least get home as a
pass rush. Washington's not really doing any of that right now.
They've had good fortune. Right There's three games that they
could have lost that they didn't, three games they could
(43:31):
have lost that they didn't, and in all three games,
they didn't always look like the better team. Definitely not
against Oregon. They got dominated by Arizona State, dominated Yes
State correct, Yes, did not have the capacity to convert
the opportunities that they created against Washington's defense, So they're
(43:53):
not able to rush the passer. Right now, defenses are
sort of figuring out what to do about Washington's offense.
Not that it's that helpful, because they're still that good.
The truth of the matter is, if I'm a Washington
fan right now, I need to see my team elevate
beyond what they're doing right now, because the good fortune
won't always go your way, especially not November.
Speaker 2 (44:15):
No no, no, no, no, which is upset season.
Speaker 1 (44:18):
Yeah, and and you know we talk about this all
the time. If losses are lessons. When you're playing against
the team teams that have lost a bunch, they're forced
to learn.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
Virginia one win.
Speaker 3 (44:28):
Virginia, who have been getting their doors knocked off, came
up and beat North Carolina and damn near Who did
they go to over what was at Miami?
Speaker 2 (44:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (44:38):
Yeah, they went to overtime with Miami the next week.
Speaker 1 (44:42):
You know who the worst looking team was the first
two weeks of the season, Oklahoma State?
Speaker 3 (44:49):
Oh yes, yeah, Oh my god, I thought they were
I thought they would lose like six.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
Games this year.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
They're ranked now yep, yep.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
Number number twenty two, and then heading into bedlam, people
are saying.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
They could win the Big Twelve.
Speaker 2 (45:04):
They could win the Big.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
Twelve if they If they win this game, they're essentially
a shoe win for the Big Twelve championship.
Speaker 1 (45:11):
Winning cures what ails you, but losing is the diagnosis.
That's that's football. That's why in the NFL you have
teams that the Patriots going into the Super Bowl seventeen
and oh might not have been the best thing for them, right.
Winning cures things, but losing is the diagnosis. And so Washington,
(45:33):
Washington might be getting away with stuff right now. One
of the best things for Oregon might have been to lose.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
I said that it got it's keeping that team super
super hungry. They do not, and ever since then they
have not wanted to fill that again. And and cal
who has put up a bunch of points versus a
bunch of people, we will will will learn a lot
this this weekend.
Speaker 2 (45:56):
I'll tell you that much.
Speaker 1 (45:57):
Do you have a problem with there being no PAC
twelve teams in the.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
No, because of Washington.
Speaker 3 (46:05):
If Washington Washington would have been in the top four,
they would have been in front of Michigan, who has
one hundred and eleventh ranked schedule in the country. Despite
knocking everybody's doors off. They would have been in front
of Michigan and likely well and in front of Florida
State too. If they had just if they had won
both of those games like bought by twenty points, like
(46:26):
they're supposed to hell, even if they won about fourteen
points and it was and they gave up a late
touchdown and it was twenty one the majority of time,
it was never really in doubt.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
They would have been fine.
Speaker 3 (46:37):
It was the fact that they almost lost and probably
should have lost both of those games.
Speaker 2 (46:42):
That's the issue, all right.
Speaker 3 (46:47):
Next thing before we get to the day well, is
quarterback controversies because you brought up something. Actually, we'll deal
with that as we get into the.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
Game, because I feel like I'm about to get a
pretty huge I told you so thrown my way. I've
been waiting all week for for you to do it,
and you haven't done it yet. So can we could
just get it over with. You could just say it
out loud and then we can move on. Okay, No,
it's your I told you so.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
What are you mean.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
Arizona football? Oh?
Speaker 3 (47:22):
Hey baby, uh listen about them starting? Wait about who
they were starting or who they were better off with?
Speaker 1 (47:35):
Yes, Oh dude, when I saw QB controversy on the Chiron,
I thought you were just loading up your fastball. So
I guess I was wrong. I guess I underestimated you here,
unless you were just saving it for later.
Speaker 3 (47:52):
M M Nope, no, no, So you're talking about the
no of Hafeita Jaden Delora's situation.
Speaker 2 (47:59):
Yes, I told you.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
They can't go back. They can't go back. Yeah, they
can't go back. I think you agree with me at
this point in point in time.
Speaker 1 (48:11):
I don't know if I ever didn't, I just didn't.
I just had mixed feelings about the whole concept of
getting losing your job to injury, but those feelings are
irrelevant in this situation. One quarterback is very much better
than the other one, and that's the end of it.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
Hmm.
Speaker 1 (48:33):
Now I'm curious, Like we can talk about it later,
but now I'm definitely curious what a you're talking about.
Do you want to get into our reviews?
Speaker 3 (48:40):
Yes, yes, yeah, let's go maybe review review review.
Speaker 1 (48:46):
We actually got two five star reviews, so we've got
ten stars. I'm counted as ten stars this week, and
one of them is unfortunately gonna be a little bit
disappointed because I read it way too late. But we
definitely got set this up for next week. The title
is a good podcast. It's from CKJ Devil. This says
I like the podcast, but want to ask a question
(49:08):
if you considered soliciting questions from the listeners. My question,
with the uncertainty surrounding Washington State and Oregon State, do
you think they will see more than usual transfers this offseason.
I know we're in the middle of the season, but
some of us Arizona State fans are already thinking about
the future. Lol, Oh, yes we are. Do you think
(49:29):
there's gonna be an exodus from Washington State and Oregon State?
And I will all set up like a questions thing
for for next week. That's a great idea. Okay, do
you think do you think we're gonna see a ton
of players dump out of the pack to schools?
Speaker 2 (49:48):
It is possible, It is possible.
Speaker 3 (49:50):
But even bigger than that, I think we gotta be
on Jonathan Smith's watch after this year.
Speaker 1 (49:57):
You've been You've been saying that for a while.
Speaker 3 (49:59):
And it's not because I do not and I want
to emphasize I do not believe Jonathan Smith wants to
leave Oregon State. I believe that that for him personally,
that making four million dollars at Oregon State is more
valuable to him than going and making seven at.
Speaker 2 (50:19):
Michigan State one hundred percent. But believe that.
Speaker 3 (50:23):
However, I think that there's a big difference in them
offering him nine million dollars. I think that he may
even turn down nine million dollars to stay at Oregon
State for four or five million.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
But it's not just about him, and.
Speaker 3 (50:38):
We've talked about that that these coaches are, particularly when
they have loyal staffs that have been with them for
a while and your staff is making a you know,
a few hundred thousand dollars, and you can turn people
from making two hundred thousand to six. You can turn
(50:58):
people making six hundred thousand to one point two on
three year deals.
Speaker 2 (51:05):
Hmmm.
Speaker 3 (51:05):
That's a whole different story, buddy, because it's not only
your life that changes. Because you're fine, you're a multi millionaire,
you're living in Oregon, You're like, I'm happy where I'm at.
But as a coach, you are also have to take
care of your staff. Yes, and it would be very
difficult to look those dudes in the in the eye
(51:27):
when you tell them I'm going to go to it,
go to go to interview, because you're gonna have to
tell them when you're when you're leaving, Like you don't
have to tell everybody, but you're gonna tell the your
inner circle, and you know what that offer looks like.
And you're like, bro, you turn this down, and we
were going with you, come on, man, like, you gotta
(51:51):
tell us what the.
Speaker 2 (51:51):
Plan is here?
Speaker 1 (51:52):
Then?
Speaker 3 (51:56):
Yeah, so I think that that's that that's the bigger thing.
Speaker 1 (52:01):
Okay, Well, that was a five star review, and I'm
sad for Oregon State fans. Here's an interesting one. It's
from Jace Jacobs. Five stars and the title of the
review is punt on first Down, which is a nice
little callback from earlier in the season. All right, five stars,
(52:24):
and it's got like a little poem here. I woke
up this morning excited to greet the day a little
love for pactal apostles and then I'll be on my way.
Oh yeah, yeah, George is the Oregon Duck, but Ralph
is a sun devil king dropping those knowledge dimes, smooth
flexing his analysis bling. That's a nice little poem. And
(52:44):
then he adds George is a cool dude for sure,
But I'd like to take the time to celebrate Ralph Amsden.
You know, when Ralph says something stupid like punt on
first down, he's actually right on the money. Ralph, if
is almost always right with his takes. I love that
he always has solutions available instead of just complaining. Many
(53:06):
of his ideas would have saved the Pac twelve had
those in charge been open to innovation. This is wildly
This is probably super inaccurate, but I'm basking in the
praise Right now, I love it. I love that Ralph
knows who all the backup quarterbacks are across the Pack
twelve and whether or not they have cool stories. He
can share their recruitment stories. He can tell you that
(53:27):
a current overlooked and underappreciated PAC twelve quarterback was a
seven on seven god who had the respect of several
five star players he and his team beat every time
in national tournaments. I love that Ralph can share those
details from every team in the conference. Thank you, George
and Ralph for covering the PAC twelve. Best of luck
on your future podcast adventures. You are loved and appreciated.
Speaker 3 (53:47):
So now I want to talk about this. I want
to talk about this review because this is why I
continue and have always wanted to do the podcast with
you for those very reasons.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
Is that.
Speaker 2 (54:05):
Is that you?
Speaker 3 (54:06):
Is that you are like my dad in certain ways.
You are Larry Brown. You are like the underdog king.
You want to coach the you know, and me, I'm
like Phil Jackson. Baby, give me all the give me
all the good stuff and let me manage the good stuff.
And I think it creates such a good balance because
(54:26):
I'm more big picture and you are in the minutia,
So I appreciate you for that.
Speaker 2 (54:33):
For that, Ralph, I do thank you.
Speaker 1 (54:36):
I'm I love being part of this and I'm grateful
every single day. And that was a really cool review
and I appreciate it. I just think that the PAC
twelve is so good and cool and fun. And I
wish I was more like Yogi Roth in that, like
I didn't freak out every time something bad happened and
(54:57):
I could just kind of stay above it all.
Speaker 2 (54:58):
But like sometimes Jogi he used to freak out.
Speaker 3 (55:00):
But yeah, I've talked to like He's like, I don't
be all right, man. I was like, Yoga, we're not.
We're not on air right now, buddy, you can tell
you we can talk about this. I was like, it's
a disaster. Yeah, I just and I want to let
everybody know he's.
Speaker 2 (55:18):
That positive off the air.
Speaker 3 (55:20):
It's not just stick for He's just a good hearted
individual that just wants the best for college football and
he loves the kids on this coast.
Speaker 1 (55:32):
He does he does, and and I love and respect
that about him. I wish he was more like him.
And I am also this way off the air, I
have heart palpitations thinking about how long Jerry as an
ro O was u c l A's defensive coordinator, And
you see me, I like, I get stressed out over
this kind of stuff because I do. I want everybody
to thrive so bad, and I think, you know I'm
(55:53):
not coming. I'm I'm contrasting myself to Yogi, who I
who I really look up to. I don't know him,
but I look up to him, and I wish I
was more like that. But I do care a lot
about this conference and all the stories and all the
small details, because all we really have is our stories.
That's who we are. We're a collection of the things
we do and the people we impact. And I want
to celebrate the good. It gets harder to celebrate the
(56:16):
good when the results are not good. And at the
same time, I love nonsense, I love the entertainment of
all of it. But at the same time, like you,
I think the reason I like working with you is
you are one of those stories, right Like you are
an Oregon duck. You played here in this conference. You
love this conference, You continue to follow this conference, You
(56:38):
continue to celebrate the athletes and use the platform that
you built with your life experiences to pour back in
other people, and I just love having access to that
and being able to help out with it. So thank
you Jas for the review. I got all warm and
fuzzy right in the middle of the podcast, and now
we can go right back into the ugly stuff.
Speaker 3 (56:56):
Well, actually, before we get into the ugly stuff, we
are getting down to the end of the season, and uh,
while while you were talking this just let you know
that sometimes some some people just joke around too much.
I was looking at your shirt today and I was like, Ralph, Ralph,
Ralph looks.
Speaker 2 (57:15):
Like he works for Spectrum.
Speaker 3 (57:17):
Right now, You're like, you're going to go install some
cable after we finished this.
Speaker 1 (57:24):
If I work for Spectrum, my internet would definitely work
better than it does.
Speaker 2 (57:28):
All right.
Speaker 3 (57:29):
So we're getting down to the close to the end
of the year and and we quickly go over who
we think are kind of the top prospects for the
uh the end of the year awards, and right now,
who would you vote Coach of the Year right now?
Speaker 2 (57:51):
Or who do you think Coach of the Year will be?
Speaker 1 (57:53):
How about?
Speaker 2 (57:54):
How about how about that?
Speaker 3 (57:55):
Who do you think it will ultimately end up being?
By predicting kind of what how conference finishes.
Speaker 1 (58:03):
Gosh, that is that is a really hard question. You
open with the hard one. Probably Jetfish because and I'm.
Speaker 3 (58:13):
Just because they because they have five wins right now. Yeah,
and if they get to seven or eight, that'll be
pretty damn outstanding.
Speaker 1 (58:20):
And the middle of their schedule was hard, Yeah, super hard,
and they won. They beat multiple ranked teams. Uh. Shout
out that the stupid Zona Zoo student section who is
chanting overrated at the end of that Oregon State game,
you idiots that rated? No, no, properly rated. You're just
(58:49):
better take the w y stuff makes me so mad.
Speaker 2 (58:55):
No, I get that, so mad.
Speaker 1 (58:56):
But I probably Jetfish, I because I you Caitlin de
boor you got it last year, right, you don't give it.
They don't really do the two in the It's all
b expectation based. So so many people said that Washington
was gonna win the conference that I don't think you
get credit for meeting expectations.
Speaker 3 (59:15):
Yeah, I think that, And and I know that people
are gonna be like, oh, Joe, of course you say this,
But I do think that you have to consider Dan
Lanning for that as well, because nobody was picking Oregon
to win the conference.
Speaker 2 (59:27):
Nobody. They were picking.
Speaker 3 (59:29):
Washington USC and then they were like, yeah, utah, because
they're always a problem.
Speaker 1 (59:37):
Replacing the O line is something that you have to
factor in super heavily too. Yeah, the way Oregon is
playing right now, Yes, and if Landing will be my
number two.
Speaker 3 (59:46):
Yeah, if yeah, I would, That's the way I would
punch that ticket too. If Dion can get the team
to a bowl game, he got to be in there too.
Speaker 1 (59:57):
M hm, Dion bet because they still have Arizona, right, yeah,
Colorado Arizona. Ye, maybe Colorado beats Arizona and then they
end up in a bowl, then that would rocket him
back to the discussion. But I also think that there's
enough people that don't want to reward a coach for
hitting the portal that hard.
Speaker 2 (01:00:17):
All Right, Offensive Player of the Year.
Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
This is a tough one, right because on one hand,
this is this is less of a quarterback award.
Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
Than it is a.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
Then it is a good player award. But obviously you're
gonna have Michael Pennick, Junior Bo Knicks, and Caleb Williams
at the top of the list. But outside of those
two guys, outside of those three guys, I think, yes,
Bucky Bucky Irving is probably the guy that I would
look at outside of outside of there.
Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
Yeah, I agree, Yeah, I agree, Yeah, So I would
probably go.
Speaker 3 (01:01:06):
Out of those three quarterbacks, it's going the winner is
going to be the out of the two that play
in the in the conference championship game.
Speaker 1 (01:01:19):
Hopefully nobody's voting before that happens, because it's I think
it's going to really come down to it, don't you yes.
Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
Yeah, And well, well, if the voting has to be
done prior to the Conference championship game, I think that
it's going to be one of the two who's playing
in it, right, But I do think that Bucky Irving
after that has to be another option, like like somebody
that you're looking at as h h.
Speaker 1 (01:01:47):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:01:47):
And then how about.
Speaker 1 (01:01:50):
Defensive This is extremely difficult. I know who you liked
going into the season. I don't think that that's gonna
be the case. I know who I liked going into
the season. I don't think that's gonna be the case either.
So I don't think it's gonna come from either Washington
or Oregon. And Travis Hunter missed time and also he
(01:02:13):
got like pretty publicly head topped a couple of times. Yeah,
but he's incredible, yes, yep. And there there is no
individual defensive player from the two teams where the defenses
have blown me away with with how much they've improved
from u c l A or Arizona to where I
(01:02:34):
could be like, you know, it's obviously this person Tafuna
has missed time for utah Yea and Colorado's defense.
Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
But you got to give Jonah Jonah Jonah Ellis some
some credit or uh Latu from u.
Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
C l A. Yeah, yeah, this one is. This one
is extremely difficult because it's not gonna go to a
team with a losing record. But when I look out,
when I see just talent and I know he missed time,
but like Travis Hunter is completely game changing. I don't know,
(01:03:13):
this one is really tough for me. But maybe maybe
maybe you take the best defensive player from the best
overall defensive team to me, that's UCLA right now. And
you know, I guess take your pick from from UCLA.
Speaker 2 (01:03:28):
Yeh, that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (01:03:31):
It really feels a team. Can you give danton Win
defensive player or just give it to the whole defense.
I don't know that that one's tough for me. I
don't I don't think I have a solid answer yet.
I thought it was gonna be Zion. You probably thought
it was gonna be Birch. Yes, and neither one has
been has has done the things that would They haven't
(01:03:52):
had the signature moments at all.
Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
No, not at all.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
And uh, Freshman of the Year, I think that offensive
Freshman of the Year. I think that defensive is probably easier.
I'm gonna give it to Matteo ut Out of Oregon
because he's been Freshman of the Week I think twice already.
Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
M hm. So I think that that puts you in
the conversation. And then who would you put on that list?
Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
Is Zachariah Branch is a freshman? Right?
Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
I think I think he's gonna make All Pac twelve.
Is the return specialist. Okay, but but he's missed a
lot of time and and honestly, he hasn't really done
much on offense.
Speaker 2 (01:04:49):
It's been in the return game.
Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
Is Mendoza a freshman than now?
Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
I think he is.
Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
There's actually a lot of good freshmen. There's a lot
of good freshmen.
Speaker 3 (01:05:03):
Well, that's a that's a spot where you could find
Travis Travis Hunter as the offensive Freshman of the Year.
Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
Is he is he technically Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
He's not a freshman. No no, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (01:05:16):
He's he would be newcomer if there is is it
freshman or newcomer?
Speaker 1 (01:05:22):
Oh, that's that's interesting because Fafita did he red shirt?
Did he only play four games last year? Because if
he's a freshman, he is a red shirt freshman. Yeah,
then that that's probably that awards probably wrapped up bingo.
Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
See see there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:05:36):
See that's why you make the big bugs. All right,
on to the games this weekend, because we had a
bunch of really good games and and we'll start out
with the first game, which was the twelve thirty game,
which was that Oregon Utah game. And when you heard
(01:05:59):
Kyle wit him after the game, he said, that's about
as thorough of a whooping as we've ever taken since
he's been there. He said, maybe maybe like seven eight
years ago versus TCU. And he also and he said
that the score was not indicative of of how the
game was. That that that the that it was worse
(01:06:21):
than the score dictated.
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
Mm hmm. Pretty cool if you're an organ fan to
physically dominate a team that has done it to you.
You have to like the direction of the program under
Dan Leading. It's a very affirming victory. You have to
understand that this a thirty plus point loss, has not
happened to Utah in the PAC twelve era at home,
(01:06:43):
not once, not once. So or was this a twenty
nine point win?
Speaker 2 (01:06:49):
Yeah, twenty nine point win.
Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
Still hasn't happened. Still hasn't happened. There are two worst
losses in the PAC twelve era. They lost to thirty
They lost by thirty at Arizona State once and they
lost by thirty two and twenty fourteen to Arizona team.
Both of those games were away. This has not happened.
They haven't had more than like a seventeen point loss
I think at home in the whole PAC twelve era.
(01:07:14):
And it happened. It happened twelve years in the in
the crux of Utah development of all of their players
all over the field. And I understand that Utah is
beat up, but the way they play doesn't typically allow
for them to get run like this. And that crowd
(01:07:34):
was noisy in the first quarter and they got taken
out of it completely, just an all around, Like I said,
an affirming win. If you don't believe in Dan Lanning
after that, then you're not gonna Because this is the
first time that Oregon has really looked like what Daan
Lanning wants it to look like. Offensively and defensively against
(01:07:57):
a ranked opponent. This is what this is what he did.
This to Colorado too. But we knew about Colorado. We
knew the truth about Colorado. We knew they were gonna
get exposed. This is this was just super impressive, and
I get you know, Kyle Whittingham did what he could.
He got on that motorcycle, rode onto the Pat McAfee set.
You know, he promoted his program. They had College Game
(01:08:19):
Day there. He did all he did enough to make
Utah visible and then he just had to hope nobody
was watching.
Speaker 3 (01:08:27):
Well, Utah has a little bit of a problem. They
got a quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
Problem and a running back problem and a yes, they
got they got a skill position problem that they've always had.
They've just always been able to cover up for it.
Speaker 3 (01:08:42):
Yeah, So if you're a kid, I'm I don't think
that kids really understand what's going on it you taught.
I think they're doing a better job of trying to
advertise it. But in recruiting, I'm like, yo, explosive athlete,
come to me, Come to me, because I don't think
that they understand that. Andy Ludwig, he plays with what
(01:09:06):
he got and and remember they were throwing the ball
less and then but but Veley's come on. Mikey Matthews,
who's a freshman at mission BA helped see. I just
did a round right right there, good kid playing really
well over at Utah freshmen.
Speaker 2 (01:09:22):
They will play you. They just need more of you.
So yeah, we.
Speaker 1 (01:09:28):
Will make you better. I you gotta, you, gotta, you
gotta help me out here, George, because I'm I've spent
a lot of time in Salt Lake City. It's a
lovely place. Yes, I love and I it's a lovely
place for if you want to go find some nonsense,
if you want to be outdoors, if you want to
be around money, if you want to be around live music.
(01:09:49):
They have a lot of what you have. But it
is it is white with a capitol w h Yes,
and how I feel like that has I think it
affected Jayden Daniel's recruitment. I really do, like I.
Speaker 2 (01:10:06):
Cause you do.
Speaker 3 (01:10:07):
You go there and you're like, damn, I love this place,
and then you're there for me and you're like.
Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
Damn, it's really white out here.
Speaker 1 (01:10:12):
Bro.
Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
It's and granted I understand where like white people are,
like I wouldn't notice, like I'm just here to go
to school, but when you like, there has to be
somewhere where you can feel a little familiar.
Speaker 1 (01:10:25):
Or you feel recruits. Yeah, done that because.
Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
There's a huge poly community there.
Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
So so going to Utah from California or Oregon or
wherever else that that doesn't it's like okay.
Speaker 2 (01:10:39):
Cool, Yeah, yeah, I got some oosoles out there.
Speaker 3 (01:10:41):
I got some people I can you know, like where
it's like if I'm missing home, I can go get
a meal that makes me feel good. Yeah, Like I
can go be around a family that I kind of
connect with. And that doesn't mean that there aren't families
there that won't love them, support them all of.
Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
That, because there are, but but there.
Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
Is you know, there's something about home that you know
that's a little bit more comforting. So I want you
Tah to work. I love Utah, and like, like I
would want my son to go if like if Utah
were like, hey, if Andy Lovewit called me right right now,
it was like Joe Gi, we want Damon right now.
(01:11:24):
You gotta say yes or no. Damon would say yes,
and I would say yes.
Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
I just I don't know, man, I just And it's
not so much because obviously you're a football program, you're
a college, you got athletes. There's black people, yes, but
there's poly culture. There's not like black culture like you're
talking about, like finding spaces where you can feel like
(01:11:52):
you're at home, where you can feel like yourself. It's
not there in abundance, and it I feel like it
really stifles their ability to bring recruits in. It far
be it for me to to speak on, like, you know,
issues of race in the state of Utah. But just
(01:12:13):
I'm from Wyoming. I spent a lot of time in Utah,
trust me, Like I notice it's like I know, I know,
I know the difference about where I'm from and where
I grew up. You know, Arizona a little bit of
a melting pot, Wyoming, Utah. Not that these are pioneered
towns started by you know, white people who cleared out
Native cleared out Natives so they could have their own
(01:12:34):
space and it and and it has been their own
space for a really really long time, and like you said,
white people don't necessarily notice. You know, there's probably people
turning this off right now when we make everything about race. No,
Utah is a very and as somebody who's a Charlotte
resident now and you know, in a whole different type
of like, uh community, as far as its makeup, like Utah,
(01:12:57):
there's not a lot of places like Utah where you
have a major Western American city that is not diverse
dominantly white. Yeah, yep, not Asian, not black, not Mexican.
They got good Mexican food in Utah though, but like
they don't. It's it is very white. And for people
(01:13:18):
that are quit white with bad no, like, that's not
what I'm saying. I'm saying that in the same way
that there are white kids that maybe would have a
hard time going to play at a DC school or
something like that.
Speaker 2 (01:13:33):
Exactly, exactly, Yeah, It's just is what it is, all right, Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:13:38):
Colorado UCLA UCLA twenty eight, Colorado sixteen. I was in
attendance for this game. Ralph Ethan Garbage is doing a
good job at quarterback. Chip Kelly said that they that
he didn't that he made the switch because you know,
(01:14:00):
Dante was a little bit heard, and they Ethan had
a good week of practice and then obviously came out
and played fantastic last week.
Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
He played pretty damn good this week two.
Speaker 3 (01:14:11):
And you're like, oh, Ethan Garbers is the starting quarterback.
Now yeah, and now this this UCLA offense, I will say, like,
this is how good the UCLA defense is.
Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
Ralph.
Speaker 3 (01:14:29):
They either had three or four first half turnovers and
won the game. They only gave up six points, six
points in the first half, and they had all their
turnovers in the first half.
Speaker 2 (01:14:47):
They had oh yeah, yeah, they had.
Speaker 3 (01:14:50):
Four turnovers in the first half. Carson still fumbled twice,
I mean, just nasty fumbles, which led to him getting
pretty much no carries in the second half because he
had fumble lights that game. I mean, he's still a good,
good back and he has some good runs, but like
on one of the fumbles, he broke loose for like
twenty something, whack up ballfly up in the air in
(01:15:12):
the red zone. So U UCLA could have scored many
more points this game. But having four turnovers in the
first half and only giving up six points, that's pretty
damn incredible. And Colorado added a late touchdown. So I
took away from this game UCLA is very good on defense.
(01:15:34):
Colorado can't block me and you pass rushing Ralph. But
as far as UCLA, my overarching takeaway was and I
was there with my father in law, right, who's a
UCLA donor. They've donated scholarships, all types of stuff. He
was like, he was like, there's no juice around this program.
(01:15:55):
He was like, it's so frustrating. Chip's clearly a good coach.
They're winning, Like there's no juice, Like that's why the
Rose Bowl is not full except for this Colorado. I
mean it was a sellout and it still wasn't full
and they got tarps up.
Speaker 1 (01:16:11):
Man, how did I not hear anything about the uniforms
they were I pay attention.
Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
Oh I love those Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (01:16:17):
So the game they should have been like they should
have been promoting when say what you want about Adidas,
say what you want about Adidas.
Speaker 2 (01:16:25):
When U C.
Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
L A Was with Adidas, I know people thought that
stuff was ugly, but they were promoting it. The La
mid Nights. They were promoting that ten days out they
had hun La.
Speaker 3 (01:16:39):
But that's that's you that That's what I'm talking about
there's no juice around the program is that they did
put out a video about it. They put out all
type of artwork, all of that stuff. Because my my,
my wife's a UCLA person and that comes up on
on her algorithm. It didn't come up on mine, like
it barely came up on mine. And we literally like
(01:17:00):
we should be like PAC twelve targeted for suggested posts.
So they're not doing a good job of getting with
complex sneaker news, all of this stuff to like uniform
swag all of these places to like promote the brand.
And that's exactly great point that goes back to what
(01:17:20):
my father in law was talking about. There's no juice
around the program, and the juice is how you recruit
better and but the juice is not chips. Jam like
Chip created so much juice at Oregon unintentionally by the offense.
It was it was revolutionary, it was fast, It had
(01:17:44):
people talking about it because they were winning and because
of this the way that they were winning. Now they're
winning running the ball, doing it like there's no and
granted style style of players. That's the where Oregon plays
right now. But there's so much juice surrounding the program.
There is like there is some you you do have
(01:18:05):
to be about clicks on some level, like you like
you have to be rooted in substance, but understand that
that substance comes from from the that that you can
turn the clicks into substance.
Speaker 1 (01:18:21):
And there are ways, like there's stuff that's unique to
UCLA where they could that stuff about them eating lobster
every day, Like I know it's not true, but they
obviously spend more on feeding their players than like than
anything like that. Lobster dinner should be a rallying cry
of the offense or the defense, right like throw up
(01:18:43):
the claw or something like that, we're eating good tonight.
Something some type of thing that people can get behind
and get and get in.
Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
Like this is the school.
Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
Look at Orgon's video, look at Oregon's videos after like
they have started. Washington now is doing it. All of
these schools are now doing it because that's what because
Oregon led the way and and every and and you
can't tell me, Ralph that even non Oregon fans aren't
looking forward to that video every week.
Speaker 1 (01:19:16):
Oh, look at what Deon Junior is doing. Yep, Deon
Junior puts out an our video that not not the
team content team. Deon Junior puts out an our video
every week of a documentary of Colorado football, separate from
anything that the team is putting out. He has his
own thing like they're encouraging content creators. Deion Sanders yesterday
(01:19:41):
was retweeting everybody who dressed up as him for Halloween.
That's genius. Yes, he's a g Deion Sanders and I
know people are gonna receive this information. Uh in weird ways,
Deon Sanders is a genius. Genius or to someone who's
(01:20:04):
college football minded, Deon Sanders is sensible, makes sense right
he is. He is all about promoting, even in promoting himself,
even like an Ann Randian way of like, uh, be
selfish because what's good for you could be good for
everybody else because you could you give what you have, right,
He gets attention and then he gives attention. Chip doesn't
(01:20:26):
want people talking about his program. Chip doesn't want to
talk to the media. Really yep, Chip doesn't want flash
and it's l a man, it's.
Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
Grace your So when we've been doing stuff, me and
me and Ralph have been doing stuff with.
Speaker 2 (01:20:50):
With the YouTube.
Speaker 3 (01:20:51):
So you also you you guys go over to George
Reister on YouTube check out the fee where we're putting
a lot of great stuff together there and and like
college football content that you guys will absolutely enjoy and
make sure that you share share it with people. But
I'm sitting there thinking, hmmm, I like, it's clear that
(01:21:16):
Chip doesn't want that, and but to win at a high.
Speaker 2 (01:21:20):
Level, you need that, like you and you you.
Speaker 3 (01:21:25):
Said, like is trying to do a little bit better
job of recruiting earlier. But there's but they're still not
as on top of it as some of these other
schools are because you have kids feeling so much pressure
to recruit well, to commit earlier because of the transfer
portal stuff and and all of that. So we'll see
(01:21:47):
uh next game up. Because this Colorado team, yeah, and
we and we talked about them in their offensive line
what they got to figure out, and.
Speaker 2 (01:21:59):
Yes, they absolutely did.
Speaker 1 (01:22:01):
It didn't last four quarters, but I thought they.
Speaker 3 (01:22:04):
Hell, they got four turnovers in the first half, they
should have been significantly more ahead than they were. Well, sorry, no,
they were down seven to six at halftime and it
didn't even look like that they could score because they
only scored a touchdown at the very end when UCLA
(01:22:26):
was playing like prevent defense and just let them just
like instead of playing their normal defense. They were like, oh,
let's get into this super soft defense.
Speaker 2 (01:22:35):
And then they were ding ding ding ding.
Speaker 1 (01:22:37):
Yeah. How much black and gold did you see in
the stadium?
Speaker 2 (01:22:40):
A lot?
Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
Really? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:22:42):
In the parking lot. Yeah, there's a decent amount. I
do think that some of the Colorado buzz is as
far as the traveling road show, is dying down a
little bit because they haven't been winning. But let them
win this weekend, buddy, Let them win this weekend and.
Speaker 1 (01:22:56):
Then have a Bowl game be on the line with
everything else they do this year.
Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
Woo yep, all.
Speaker 3 (01:23:01):
Right, usc Cal forty nine to fifty.
Speaker 2 (01:23:07):
Cal gave this game away.
Speaker 3 (01:23:10):
Jaydon Ott had twenty one carries for one fifty three
in the first half, and I thought, I text you,
I was like, dude, he's on the way to the
back twelve record. But then he got hurt. Yeah, and
then they couldn't run the ball anymore because they have
a lot of injuries. Because if Fonse is hurt too,
(01:23:31):
this is not yeah, yeah, this is not a good
situation for them. They were up in this, so it
was twenty nine to thirty six, I believe, Yeah, twenty
nine thirty six. Starting the fourth quarter, Cal scores again.
They're up two scores. Then they start turning the ball
(01:23:54):
over fumble, and then UCLA gets the ball back fumbled,
right back. They had opportunities, Ralph to shut the door,
but they didn't. And then at the end of the game,
they scored and they made the right decision, which was
to go for two. They just couldn't convert for two
(01:24:15):
because if they because they couldn't keep this up it
was already unraveling.
Speaker 1 (01:24:20):
And not running the ball in that in that situation
brought some criticism on because yeah, here's what I think though,
I think we got some I think we got some
people listening to our show. Why you said that, Well,
what's my biggest criticism of in your biggest criticism of
USC's offense.
Speaker 2 (01:24:41):
They weren't running the football?
Speaker 1 (01:24:44):
What did they do against Cal?
Speaker 3 (01:24:45):
Run the football forty times?
Speaker 1 (01:24:47):
Forty times? Forty times? And they ran the ball with
the game on the line while they were down. Yep,
it was refreshing. And what what is my that's my
biggest criticism, maybe my only criticism that I harp on
all the time about Justin Wilcox.
Speaker 2 (01:25:07):
Oh, that he won't run the football.
Speaker 1 (01:25:09):
No, he doesn't show any emotions.
Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
Oh yes, yes, yes, exactly, yes, yes, that he is.
Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
This man was fired the f He wanted to beat
USC so bad. He celebrated more on that missed field goal,
which I want to talk about from the missed field
goal right after halftime than I've ever seen him celebrate.
Speaker 3 (01:25:29):
Because he because he felt like he made something, that
he did something that impacted the game.
Speaker 1 (01:25:36):
Can we talk about that field goal?
Speaker 2 (01:25:37):
Yeah, go ahead?
Speaker 1 (01:25:38):
What the hell?
Speaker 2 (01:25:40):
Pack twelve officials, Pack twelve.
Speaker 1 (01:25:42):
Then they had to pull Justin Wilcox out of the
locker room six minutes and a halftime. Lincoln Riley never
left the field. Shout out to Lincoln Riley, by the way,
I'm glad to see you're feeling better. Uh. They had
to pull Justin Wilcox out, and then they attempt a
field goal to start the second half that should have
(01:26:05):
been attempted at the end of the first half.
Speaker 3 (01:26:08):
And then and then they have to do the opening
kickoff even after attempting the field goal.
Speaker 1 (01:26:15):
And USC missed it, which was very funny. Uh, Justin
Wilcox used a time out to ice the kick.
Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (01:26:29):
Iced a kicker who had just spent twenty minutes doing
nothing because it was technically halftime. I just everything about
that was was it. We'd go on a highlight reel
of intitude only happens in the Pact twelve. Yeah, I
just that was wild. That was wild and it and
(01:26:51):
then Cal had all the momentum. This was not a
Kayleb Williams game. This is Marshaun Lloyd game.
Speaker 3 (01:26:58):
Yes seventeen for one fifteen, two touchdowns, fifty six yard long. Yeah,
it feels like exactly what you would have seen from
him if he had been getting the ball all the time.
Speaker 1 (01:27:10):
I have two questions for you. This is the fourth
ranked team that Cal has played. They're giving up an
average of forty nine over that spam. That is horrific.
Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
So that's bad.
Speaker 1 (01:27:30):
What we talk about Alex Grinch a lot. We talk
about Alex Grinch a lot, but we might need to
talk about your.
Speaker 2 (01:27:37):
Old linebackers, teammates, teammates. Yeah, yeah, Pizza Simon.
Speaker 3 (01:27:45):
All right, Look, we have to tell the truth. They're
not doing a good job. And there's no like that's
not personal. It's just if you're giving up forty nine
points a game against your three ranked teams.
Speaker 2 (01:28:01):
That ain't good enough for the average.
Speaker 1 (01:28:04):
If you take the dude, if you just take the
three games that they gave up over fifty, it's like
fifty five because they have a fifty nine, a fifty
A thirty four against Utah, but that was Utah with
a pig former quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:28:23):
Yep Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:28:24):
So fifty nine to Washington, yes, fifty two to Oregon State,
thirty four to Utah, and fifty to USC.
Speaker 1 (01:28:33):
So it's forty nine if you include the Utah score.
They're giving up an average of forty nine if you
include the Utah score. If you take that out, it's worse.
Speaker 3 (01:28:44):
They gave up but Washington. They scored thirty two against Washington.
I don't even know what that means. Though they scored
forty against Oregon State. I don't know what that means
because they've given up points too. And they gave up
forty nine to USC. I don't even know what that means.
But Utah held them to fourteen. So this kind of
feels like that this upcoming week against Oregon could be
a bloodmath.
Speaker 1 (01:29:06):
Yeah, it really could, because if what are they going
to not give up fifty. That comes with the that
like comes with the house, give up the refrigerator stays. So, oh,
what are they going to score against this Oregon defense,
(01:29:28):
which has not been kind to teams that are one dimensional.
Speaker 3 (01:29:32):
So let's say that they are, that there's a little
bit of a letdown, right, which I don't think that
there will be, but there is a little bit of
a letdown. But they give up twenty. Yeah, if there's
a letdown, but Oregon has not. They didn't let up
versus Colorado. Well, but there was a hype game Utah.
(01:29:55):
That was a hype game. They gave Wash. They didn't
let up against They didn't play great against Washington State,
but there was a trap game too. They gave up
a late touchdown. But like organists covered every single game
this season except one.
Speaker 1 (01:30:09):
Yeah, and that was on a garbage time down. I
know you're so mad about it. Okay, So here's my
second question, because there's no answer to like, what what
do we do about Cal's defense? And just the USC's
defense has been so bad that we're not talking about
Sermon and Cal very much. And the expectations were high.
Speaker 3 (01:30:27):
See, but here's the problem is that U C l
A's defense, USC's defense is so bootylicious, right that on
one hand, you're saying, all right, they think they they suck, right,
but then they saved the game.
Speaker 1 (01:30:47):
With a little help, a little help and some play calling.
Speaker 3 (01:30:52):
Yeah, but I'm just saying, is that is that is
that that's the kind of saving grace that that that
You're like, well, our offense wasn't what wasn't great, but
our defense. Listen, they gave up, they gave it up,
but when it mattered the most, they gotta stop. They
gotta turn out.
Speaker 1 (01:31:08):
When it mattered the most. Both callen Arizona forgot that
you could run the ball, Like, come on, call in Arizona.
All right, all right, right, the Alex Grinch thing's not
funny anymore. It was funny to poke at for a while.
But like, I'm at the point where I'm starting to believe.
Speaker 2 (01:31:27):
That because.
Speaker 1 (01:31:30):
No, no, I don't. I'm starting to believe because on
some level I do believe talent is destiny that is
reflected in who plays for the national title every year. Yeah, okay,
if you did not have anybody calling the defense, if
you just let eleven former four and five star kids
(01:31:51):
go out there, and make shit up.
Speaker 2 (01:31:53):
And just put one of them in charge.
Speaker 1 (01:31:56):
What would be the difference? Can it get worse?
Speaker 3 (01:32:07):
I'm shit, you gave forty nine to col I don't
know if it can get worse. Bro Like, like I thought,
Josh Pate said something that was super smart last week
when they played against Utah. Right, well, the week before
when they played against Utah and everybody expected them to
that Utah was gonna be a get right game for USC.
(01:32:30):
He was like, nobody gets right against us against Utah,
and they're.
Speaker 2 (01:32:35):
Like, well Oregon, No, Oregon was already right.
Speaker 3 (01:32:38):
You don't get right versus Utah, And but everybody gets
right on offense versus u USC's defense.
Speaker 1 (01:32:49):
Yes they do, Yes they do. I don't know. We
gotta move on. This is on the unanswerable questions. There's
two very bad defenses. Congratulations to USC, question mark, congratulate.
I no longer believe that. I believed that, because USC
would have to win three top ten games in order
to go undefeated the rest of the way, that that
(01:33:09):
would give them the juice they needed to possibly backdoor
their way into college football playoff. I no longer believe
that because it reminds me of Baylor. Remember when Baylor
lost that game to TCU and then they went and
won three top ten games, and it's still and all
that did was keep everyone out of the college for
(01:33:31):
the Big Twelve. That kept Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (01:33:33):
So they got out Washington, Oregon and UCLA to finish
the season. There is I would give that a zero
percent chance that they win all three of those games.
Speaker 1 (01:33:43):
But if they did, they'd get another shot at a top.
Speaker 2 (01:33:46):
Ten team in the Pac twelve Championship.
Speaker 1 (01:33:49):
Right, And I still don't think that would be enough because.
Speaker 3 (01:33:52):
That would be a lot bro Like, that would be
a lot of winning if you'll get two top ten
teams and PASSA and then UCLA maybe in the top
twelve at that time if they went out.
Speaker 1 (01:34:04):
Yeah, but Bail, I'm saying Baylor did this. Baylor did this,
but because they blew a game against TCU earlier in
the season, they got held out.
Speaker 3 (01:34:15):
Yeah, because it'll it'll be hard to put USC above
Notre Dame the way that they did them.
Speaker 1 (01:34:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:34:22):
See, it'd be different if they had two losses like
Notre Dame. Well like that, like that Notre if both
of their losses was the way Ohio State lost to
Notre Dame, but they got manhandled in both of their
losses against Utah and against Notre Dame.
Speaker 1 (01:34:42):
So right now, USC's best opportunity is to ruin things
for everybody else, just like they did by leaving the
conference in the first place. I don't think they have
the capability to do it, though. I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:34:54):
I totally, I totally agree with you and this team.
Just in case anybody is wondering, they are ninth in
total defense. They're giving up four hundred and twenty yards
a game. Cal is right in front of them scoring defense.
They are ninth as well. They're giving up thirty two
(01:35:16):
points a game.
Speaker 2 (01:35:18):
Yeah, all right.
Speaker 3 (01:35:22):
Next game up, we had Washington Stanford.
Speaker 2 (01:35:35):
Stanford was getting.
Speaker 3 (01:35:36):
Cooked by Colorado and it took an angels in the
outfield to win that game.
Speaker 2 (01:35:44):
They got happen.
Speaker 3 (01:35:48):
Oregon forty two to six, Ucla forty two to seven.
That's what defense can do for you. Washington gave up
thirty three points to Stanford, and if it weren't for
a dropped pass on fourth down to a wide open player,
(01:36:11):
they would have lost this football game.
Speaker 1 (01:36:13):
Ralph, you think that they you think Stanford would because
that happened deep in Ashton. No one's bringing that up.
That happened, so they still would have had to march
down the field, but.
Speaker 2 (01:36:26):
They were cutting through.
Speaker 3 (01:36:27):
Yeah, but he would have gotten more yards on that
play too.
Speaker 1 (01:36:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:36:33):
Ashton Daniels threw for three hundred and sixty seven yards
in a touchdown, ran for another eighty one, and elc
i Amnor nine for one forty six, Tiger Bachmeyer ten
for ninety five.
Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
They got Ashton Daniels.
Speaker 3 (01:36:48):
Look, I don't even I didn't even recognize this person, Like,
I don't even know who Ashton Daniels is.
Speaker 2 (01:36:55):
Because of the Washington and Colorado game.
Speaker 3 (01:36:57):
Now, like I'm like, are Oregon and ucla'sd defense is
that damn good? Or are these defenses that damn bad?
Because we know Colorado's defense is bad. We know USC's
defense is bad.
Speaker 1 (01:37:12):
NTL Territory and remember USC beat this team fifty six
to ten.
Speaker 2 (01:37:19):
Granted was in the beginning of the season, but still.
Speaker 1 (01:37:23):
We're enohing to lose territory. They are missing two of
their best offensive players, and they've decided that they're going
to toss it up to Elic iaman Or every time
he's not in bracketed coverage and it's working. They're just
doing the stuff that works. I think it's awesome. I
think it's awesome. They should have won this game. Washington
(01:37:46):
can't get home on the pass rush and that was
supposed to be a strength going into this year. That's horrifying.
And people keep pointing out that, like, oh, Michael Pennix
is a much different player when you get restaurant. So
is everyone. So is everyone, but especially pocket passers. Yes, correct,
what do you think pocket passers? So? So the revelation
(01:38:09):
is pocket passers don't throw as well when they're getting
hit by three hundred pounds men. No way, of course, not,
of course not. So if you are able to get
to Michael Pennix, he's going to struggle a little bit.
His struggling looks pretty damn good.
Speaker 2 (01:38:28):
Though, Yes it does.
Speaker 3 (01:38:30):
Hey, now, now I do like the pressure element of
it because if because Oregon beat him up and maybe
that was some indication of what was going on in
the Arizona State game, and then people were saying, oh,
he was sick, then he was sick too. Well, listen
and listen, I don't care about no sick. When you
(01:38:53):
when you stand out there on the field, you got
to take accountability. And if you throw for three hundred
and sixty nine yards and four touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (01:38:59):
You you are right enough.
Speaker 3 (01:39:03):
So yeah, this Washington team, this is why Washington is
not ranked in the top four right now?
Speaker 2 (01:39:09):
Is these two weeks? And yeah, so that's where we are?
Speaker 1 (01:39:13):
What so what are what do we eat? What's the
Troy Taylor narrative at this point the man has Right now,
He's had like the biggest comeback ever against Dion. He
almost knocked off a top five team in the country,
but he also lost to the school that you worked
for last year, which is at the FCS level. And
(01:39:35):
they've been they they have been jack stumped against every
good team they've played except for Washington. Is it Are
you encouraged or do you look at everything through the
lens of like Stanford can't get right in the modern
era anyway? So it's kind of it's kind of tragic.
(01:39:57):
Every good thing Stanford does is kind of because you
know what they could be. Jim Harbaugh and David Shaw
showed you what they could be and I don't know
if they could ever get back to that based on
the way things are trending, correct, correct.
Speaker 3 (01:40:10):
I think that that makes it very very tough for
them to for them to do that, But.
Speaker 1 (01:40:20):
Could they do it a little bit in the ACC?
Are they going to be better off in the ACC
than they are in the PAC twelve? N Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:40:29):
Oh god, yes, because there aren't as many good teams
in the ACC, at least as of right now. But if,
but if they but on the years that the ACC
has a strong year.
Speaker 2 (01:40:40):
Yeah, they got it.
Speaker 3 (01:40:41):
They got a problem on their hands, pile, they got
a major problem on their hands. So yeah, stinks, man stinks.
Next game up, Oregon State Arizona. I feel like I
called this one, Ralph, you did?
Speaker 1 (01:40:58):
You did? I did a quick rewatch of this one
this morning. I gotta say, what they did before halftime
was very confusing to me.
Speaker 2 (01:41:12):
Oh that shut out?
Speaker 1 (01:41:14):
Yeah, shout out to Manu who broke up a touchdown
with the back of his wrist on accident. Hell of
a play, but running trying to get a twenty yard
touchdown run?
Speaker 3 (01:41:26):
It was too far. It was just too far. Had
it been twelve yards? Ten yards?
Speaker 2 (01:41:32):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:41:33):
Hell of a play call? Yeah, Like, what was it before?
Did you really think it was gonna work? That's weird?
Speaker 3 (01:41:39):
It was just too far. It was just too far.
Great play call, though, wonderful play call.
Speaker 1 (01:41:45):
Had that been a running back, the blocking was there
that he might have could have done something like the
blocking was set up so well, But like, what is
there a reason they didn't take the three points there?
There was a chip shot field goal.
Speaker 3 (01:41:58):
They thought they could still but still a possession instead
of going in the because I think they were getting
the ball back first and they were like, oh, we
can take advantage of this right right now. And when
they went and have time ten to ten, I was like, oh,
this is a problem, buddy.
Speaker 1 (01:42:14):
The fact they didn't spike the ball on the second
down play they kind of let the clock run. I
don't know. I didn't like the way that that was managed.
Obviously there's other stuff at play here. I'm gonna I'm
not lie, dude. Oregon State did not look bad in
this game. They didn't Arizona took it from them. I
thought dj Uongala looked great. I thought that the whole
(01:42:35):
quarterback thing they're doing is confusing to me, and you'll
talk more about that, I'm sure, But at the end
of the game, dj looked good standing in there making throws.
Speaker 3 (01:42:45):
Yeah, yeah, he drove them down at the end to
get a touchdown to cut it from a two score
game to where it was right there to twenty seven
twenty four.
Speaker 1 (01:42:55):
I thought they looked all right on defense. That it's
it's hard to defend those like deep ins and outs
that Arizona runs because then get some yards after the catch.
But I thought Oregon State looked okay in this game.
I disagree with what they did before halftime, but other
than that, I thought they played well. And Arizona keeps
(01:43:19):
putting everything in front of them and limiting opportunities and
limiting possessions, and they're doing this bin but don't break
defense thing, and it just keeps working. Yea. At some
points they're gonna run up against somebody who's just like,
we're fine with that. We're just gonna run the ball.
Maybe that'll be Utah, they're like, oh, you want to
(01:43:41):
keep everything in front of you, that's cool. We only
wanted four yards per possession or per play anyway, and
so you know, maybe that doesn't work against everybody, but
right now it's working. I think Arizona is very impressive.
And I'm done with the whole waffling on the FAFEEDA thing.
I don't think you can ever go back.
Speaker 3 (01:44:00):
Hey, hey, do you know this crazy is I'm actually
looking right now for I'm actually looking right now to
see if they believe well who he said is going
to be the starting quarterback because Jedfish Jedfish. Since the game,
(01:44:30):
we have not heard about who's going to be their
starting quarterback yet, Like and I would have to assume
that it's going to be Noah Fafita. I mean that
that would make no sense, That would make no sense.
But I'm looking on the Twitter machine in the in
(01:44:53):
the search, I got nothing, pal, I got nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:44:58):
About who's going to be the start quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:45:01):
I'm not getting pulled back into this whole quarterback debate.
Let's debate the other side.
Speaker 3 (01:45:04):
Okay, the other side is okay, see now you have relented.
Speaker 2 (01:45:10):
It's fine.
Speaker 3 (01:45:12):
So Ralph does not like the fact that Aiden Childs
is getting a series or two every single game for
Oregon State. He got a series this time in the
first half, which I actually think was the perfect time
to do it. But I believe that this is clear
who is their starting quarterback of the future, because you
don't get Aiden Childs in the game and make sure
(01:45:34):
he's starting to get a little bit of experience in
games that matter.
Speaker 1 (01:45:38):
When you're down ten to seven, when you're down in.
Speaker 3 (01:45:43):
The in the second quarter, yeah, and you're like, yeah,
here's the drive. Because then he gets a chance to
feel real pressure. Understand it. He did a good job.
He almost threw a pick, but then he came back
and ran the ball through some good passes got him
down in scoring position.
Speaker 2 (01:46:00):
I like it. I like it.
Speaker 3 (01:46:02):
I don't hate this at all because it is clear
who their starting quarterback is.
Speaker 2 (01:46:06):
It is deep feel like I.
Speaker 1 (01:46:07):
Feel like I'm taking crazy pills then, because it's not
that I don't like that they're giving him series. What
I don't like is that if you're giving somebody critical series,
you have two quarterbacks and no, like nobody for some
reason did did No.
Speaker 2 (01:46:23):
They don't. They're only giving him one.
Speaker 1 (01:46:28):
This is what I'm talking about. That did did Oregon
State somehow break the model of the whole thing. We've
always said if you if you have two quarterbacks, you
don't have a quarterback. I don't even necessarily believe that
to be true. But if you're playing two quarterbacks, you
have two quarterbacks, you are running a two quarterback system.
(01:46:50):
Are you not since when Okay, let me let me
phrase it a different way so you can see why
I'm going insane here. Is playing two quarterbacks, not playing
two quarterbacks?
Speaker 2 (01:47:03):
Yes, what do you what do you? What do you mean? Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:47:06):
Quarterbacks?
Speaker 2 (01:47:08):
They're only giving him a series.
Speaker 1 (01:47:11):
Or two sometimes.
Speaker 3 (01:47:17):
Come on, bro, they're they're only giving him two in
like blowout games and games that they that are firmly
in hand. You can't hate this, Ralph. This is not
a two quarterback system, Ralph. But you know what situation
I do hate what I do hate. I hate what's
going on at u c l A right now with
with with Collin Schlee because they're putting.
Speaker 1 (01:47:40):
Him at two quarterback system.
Speaker 3 (01:47:41):
Right, Yes, that that is a peer two quarterback system.
Because it's not that they're using that for developmental purposes.
They're using that as like as a strategy. See there's
see there's a difference because the Oregon State is using
it as a developmental thing. This is strategy where they
(01:48:05):
put contin Slee in Colorado was able to stop the
run when Colin Slee came in. Why because they knew
he wasn't gonna throw it. And then Chip Chip got
too smart and was like, yeah, see look, they think
that we're only gonna run it, but here we go
throwing it pick.
Speaker 2 (01:48:24):
So now he can't be trusted to throw the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:48:30):
Yeah, I guess, I guess that there is nothing really
Aidan Childs brings to the table that that you couldn't
get out of DJ, like technically, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:48:41):
And the few.
Speaker 3 (01:48:42):
But then that adds to the questions about what that future,
what the future holds, because uh, DJ does have another
year and I don't know how the NFL draft looks
for him at this point in time. All right, last
game up. We got the Whyshington State Cougas versus the
(01:49:05):
Arizona State Sun Devils thirty eight twenty seven. Sun Devils
gotta win. And this feels like exactly why. I mean, well, first,
Arizona State has a superior coach, the superior strategists, And
(01:49:27):
which team would you say is more talented.
Speaker 1 (01:49:28):
Ralph Arizona State, Arizona State. It's at Washington State has
one player on defense that's over three hundred pounds Nam Rodman.
They're small, They're very small. Like there are guys on
Washington State's roster that I love. I think they got
a couple of really good offensive linemen. I think Josh
Kelly and Lincoln Victor are just awesome, awesome receivers, not
(01:49:52):
great run after the catch guys, but really really good receivers.
And cam Ward I think is an NFL talent. But
the rest of the team, no, like.
Speaker 2 (01:50:01):
Not is it.
Speaker 1 (01:50:01):
No, no, no, no, no, no. And this is why I
actually think that Jake Diggett's a really good coach, because
I think that that Washington State has overperformed their their
their talent level a little bit and gotten away with
just a very small, small, not super athletic defense.
Speaker 2 (01:50:18):
So and they're not running the football.
Speaker 1 (01:50:21):
No, they can't. They can't. So you know, I think
the more talented team won. But because everything starts in
the trenches and we know what Arizona State is dealing
with at offensive line, that it has been almost impossible
for Arizona State to be competitive in some of these games,
(01:50:41):
and the fact that they have is a huge credit
to the scheming of Kenny Dillingham. It feels really good
to win a game, though, really good, first time first
Power Five win for Kenny Dillingham. They ran the ball,
so they didn't have a run over twenty yards all season, George.
They got a sixty six yarder from Camp Scatawowy in
this de Carlos Brooks scored three times. He's been injured,
(01:51:03):
so having him back was real cool. And Washington State
kept trying to arm tackle Elijah Badger. That doesn't work.
He ran through everybody. So, uh, it was it was.
It was just really nice to see Arizona State get
w Washington State's in trouble. And I don't know, I
(01:51:26):
don't know if cam Ward can do much more than
he's doing now. Because this is the third game where
he went off and they lost that. I've been like, well,
what more can he do? You know, I don't know.
He threw for four four thirty eight against Oregon.
Speaker 3 (01:51:46):
Yep, Yeah, he threw for a lot of yards, but
it didn't result in points.
Speaker 1 (01:51:52):
Yeah, they're a very bad red zone team too. They're
really good between the between the twenties and move in
the football. But yeah, I don't know. Shout out to
Arizona State. I'm just I'm happy to finally get a win.
H I don't know if that's going to continue. So
we got a couple of really good teams left, including
(01:52:13):
Oregon and Utah, but Uh, it had to feel because
stuff was getting tough. Because you can you can. You
can give them all the mantras in the world. You
can tell them keep chipping away at the rock, keep
telling them not to quit. But it's got to be
for something, and for them to finally break through and
get a win and have it be at home. In
a year where they have eight home games they want.
The only two wins have been at home, so the
(01:52:34):
home fans have seen a lot of losing. It was
just nice, felt nice.
Speaker 2 (01:52:38):
Basic losing is over.
Speaker 3 (01:52:43):
All, right, Yeah, And I don't Washington State gonna be
tough tough getting to a bowl game. They're gonna have
to go through Colorado, all right. Lasting up is the
PAC twelve Power rankings, and I did them this week.
Let me know if you have any air here, Okay,
Ralph number one, Oregon two, Washington three, Utah, Wow four,
(01:53:11):
Oregon State five, USC six, UCLA seven, Arizona eight, Colorado nine,
Arizona State, ten, Washington State eleven, col twelve, Stanford.
Speaker 1 (01:53:33):
The bottom makes sense to me. The three through three
through six is highly debatable, don't you think.
Speaker 3 (01:53:44):
Yeah, I mean I can't put Utah above or I
mean I guess I could put Oregon State above Utah, but.
Speaker 1 (01:53:53):
But they just lost to Arizona.
Speaker 3 (01:53:58):
Yeah, I mean I want to skyrocket Arizona up like
I want to, but yeah, but then it's hard to
put them above USC. It's hard to put them a book,
like you know what I mean, Like I can't put
them above any of those teams they play.
Speaker 1 (01:54:13):
Even though they're they're better than USC. Yeah, the same
way that, in the same way that you have Oregon
above Washington, I would have Arizona above USC because that
happened in La, did it not?
Speaker 2 (01:54:23):
Yeah? It did?
Speaker 3 (01:54:24):
Okay, so so okay, so then let's move U c
l A down to six.
Speaker 2 (01:54:34):
U c l A.
Speaker 1 (01:54:36):
It's an impossible test. I would leave it the way
it is. But just understand how messy that that middle
grouping is. Because you got Oregon State with the win
over Utah, Arizona with the win over Oregon State. You
saw USC technically beat Arizona, but they looked terrible doing it.
(01:54:57):
It's very very messy, very messy. And then you have
the Washington State went over Oregon State, which kind of
pulls it down. Then, okay, one one thing you want
to point out about Oregon state is they played two
good quarterbacks and they lost both of those games.
Speaker 2 (01:55:09):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:55:11):
So I'm gonna switch UCLA and USC then that'll make
it feel better. And so USC at six, Ucla at five?
Speaker 1 (01:55:20):
Okay, yeah, sure, why not?
Speaker 2 (01:55:24):
All right? And the last thing is our player of
the week.
Speaker 1 (01:55:29):
Okay, So who did you go with last week?
Speaker 2 (01:55:33):
I went with I went with Jade and Ott.
Speaker 1 (01:55:39):
So that's that's it there.
Speaker 2 (01:55:43):
Who did you have?
Speaker 1 (01:55:44):
It doesn't matter. Would you say Jay and Not had
the best performance of anybody in the conference.
Speaker 2 (01:55:48):
He had twenty one for one and three touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (01:55:53):
Yeah, So George eight, Ralph six.
Speaker 2 (01:55:58):
So who are you taking this week?
Speaker 1 (01:56:01):
Uh? I don't think I've taken him yet. I don't
think I have, oh.
Speaker 3 (01:56:09):
Because we have to be super super quick here. So
all right, So we got col Oregon. I forgot about
this cal Oregon minus twenty four for Oregon and over
under fifty nine. I got Oregon minus twenty four over
fifty nine because they might score fifty nine out by themselves.
Speaker 1 (01:56:28):
I'm with you on both of those picks.
Speaker 3 (01:56:31):
Washington, USC Washington minus thirty over under seventy six. I'm
taking the over and I'm gonna take USC.
Speaker 1 (01:56:44):
Seventy six.
Speaker 2 (01:56:45):
Yes, God dang.
Speaker 1 (01:56:49):
Uh over Yeah, and I guess I guess I'll go Washington.
But this this, this could go either way. Neither team
is really looking that good right now. But I'll go
with you. I'll take Washington and the over as well.
Speaker 3 (01:57:07):
All right, we got Ucla Arizona Ucla minus three over
under fifty one. I will take the Bruins on the
road with a traveling defense and the under.
Speaker 2 (01:57:23):
The under yep, fifty one.
Speaker 1 (01:57:26):
Wow, Okay, that's a That's one of the ballsiest picks
that I think that you've made. I'm I'm gonna go
opposite you with the the over. I think this game
might end up being a push, but I'm gonna roll
with the home team. I'm say Arizona plus three and
the over.
Speaker 2 (01:57:45):
Oh, all right, Arizona boys, showing them love. I know
you like this game.
Speaker 3 (01:57:51):
Utah at I'm sorry, Arizona State at Utah minus eleven,
forty one and a half over under.
Speaker 1 (01:57:59):
I am all all over the plus eleven and the over.
All over this is I feel and I feel better
about this over than I felt about you know a
lot of stuff. I think Utah is probably gonna get
to twenty. I think Arizona State has the ability to
get to at least twenty, so that that over smashed
that for sure. I'm gonna take Arizona State plus eleven
because I think Utah got exposed a little bit and
(01:58:23):
I think Arizona State's gonna be able to exploit some
of the issues that Utah has on offense. I don't
know if it'll be enough, but I did on another
podcast predicting Arizona State win. I was feeling myself a
little bit, So I'll take ASU in the over.
Speaker 3 (01:58:36):
M m mm, pal, this is not a get right game.
You don't get right against Utah, you get in. Utah
will bounce back Utah minus eleven, and I'm gonna take
the over. Stanford, Washington State, Washington State minus thirteen over
under fifty nine and a half. I will take Stanford
(01:59:00):
plus thirteen and the over.
Speaker 1 (01:59:05):
I'm going to take Washington State. I think it's going
to be a fourteen point win and I'll take the
over as well.
Speaker 3 (01:59:12):
Last game up Oregon State, Colorado, Oregon State, Well, Oregon
State in folsom Field minus thirteen and a half over
under sixty two.
Speaker 2 (01:59:21):
Give me Colorado.
Speaker 3 (01:59:23):
I feel this is the best best I've ever felt
about picking them against the spread plus thirteen and a
half and I'm going to actually take the under.
Speaker 1 (01:59:34):
You know, you talked me into this off air. You
talked me into and so what I ended up looking
up was how Oregon State has fared against decent quarterbacks.
Come to find out, Oregon State has only played two
decent quarterbacks, both on the road, lost both games. This
is going to be the best quarterback they faced. Yep,
(01:59:55):
I believe I do. You've sold me on Shader, not
in the pick him over Kayleb Williams way, but like, yeah,
he this is the best quarterback they faced, and it's
on the road. I don't know if Colorado wins, but
I definitely believe they're gonna cover.
Speaker 2 (02:00:10):
Mm hmmm. See.
Speaker 1 (02:00:11):
So that back to our player of the week thing.
I have a question for you. Yeah, what happens if
I picked Travis Hunter?
Speaker 2 (02:00:20):
What do you mean?
Speaker 1 (02:00:22):
Because we get one point for a quarterback, two points
for an offensive player, and three points for a defensive player.
He plays on both sides of the ball, So what
what do I get? Is it to no matter?
Speaker 2 (02:00:38):
Like okay, hold on, hold on?
Speaker 3 (02:00:40):
So so no, no, no, so so if you pick Travis Hunter,
you get either offense or defense.
Speaker 2 (02:00:48):
But but you don't have to pick prior prior to
the game.
Speaker 3 (02:00:53):
So you so, so he either has to be better
than the offensive player defensively or better than that offensive
player offensively. Okay, Like it's like picking show hey o Tani.
You technically get both, but you only get the results
of one.
Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
Okay, so, but but it does give me an so
when you choose to use Travis Hunter, it would give
you the advantage of being able to pick correct. And
what would be frustrating is had I picked him on
defense this last week, I still would have lost.
Speaker 2 (02:01:26):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (02:01:29):
Okay, I'm gonna go with Travis Hunt. I'm gonna take
the risk. I'm gonna go with Travis Hunter. And then
I guess that's cool. I get to decide which part
of him I use. I'm leaning, I'm leaning I'm picking
him for the offense this week. But I just wanted
to know what the rules were now that we have
multiple players in the PAC twelve playing both sides of
(02:01:49):
the ball.
Speaker 3 (02:01:50):
Yeah, I'm going Big Penix energy talking about Big Penis energy.
Speaker 1 (02:01:58):
Okay, all right, I like this is gonna be a
good matchup.
Speaker 3 (02:02:02):
Yep, all right, you guys, that's back twelve Apostles. I'm
George Reister, he's packed. Uh, he's Ralph AMers in peace out,
catch you later,
