The trial of James Craig, a Colorado denist accused of
fatally poisoning his wife's smoothies, started with opening statements on Tuesday. Craig,
forty seven, faces charges of first degree murder in connection
with the death of his forty three year old wife, Angela,
(00:20):
who passed away in March twenty twenty three. Authorities alleged
that Angela's death resulted from poisoning with cyanide and tetrahydralazine
that's a component commonly found in over the counter eye drops.
Investigators claim that Craig began devising a plan to kill
his wife around February twenty twenty three. Evidence presented in
(00:41):
a probable cause affidavit revealed that he purchased arsenic online
and conducted searches, including how many grounds of pure arsenic
will kill a human? Also searching is arsenic detectable in
an autopsy. Angela, who served as a choir director and
family history sultan for her local church, was first admitted
(01:03):
to the hospital on March six, experiencing symptoms of dizziness
and weakness after falling ill. Again. She was readmitted on
March nine and remained in the hospital for six days. Tragically,
during her third hospital visit, she suffered from a seizure
and was removed from life support, passing away on March eighteen.
(01:23):
Prosecutors alleged that during one of Craig's visits to the hospital,
he administered a lethal dose of cyanide to her. Prosecutor
Ryan Brackley claimed in his opening remarks, he didn't go
into that room to save Angela's life. He didn't go
to fight for her or support her. He entered that
hospital room to murder her, to consciously and intentionally end
(01:46):
her life with cyanide.

troubling behavior. She claimed that he an elder in the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, was fixated
on pornography, engaged in multiple extramarital affairs, and had previously
(02:46):
attempted to drug her. When confronted about his poisoning attempt,
he allegedly expressed intentions to take his own life and
drugged her to prevent her from interfering. Angela informed her
sister that Craig had recently lost over two thousand dollars
while gambling in Las Vegas and was struggling to keep
his dental practice afloat. Furthermore, his business partner, Ryan Redfern,
(03:10):
disclosed the law enforcement that Craig had previously filed for
bankruptcy and was on the brink of doing so again.
