The estate of Johnny Cash has initiated legal action against
Coca Cola, accusing the company of unlawfully hiring a tribute
(01:50):
performer to mimic the iconic country singer in an advertisement
that aired during college football games. This lawsuit is based
on the Elvis Act of Time, Tennessee, which was enacted
last year in safeguards and individual's voice from unauthorized exploitation.
The estate claims that although they have previously granted licenses
(02:12):
for Cash music, Coca Cola did not seek their permission
for this particular instance. Stealing an artist's vocal and voice
is an act of theft, undermining his integrity, identity, and humanity,
stated Tim Warnock, attorney for the Casha state. This lawsuit
aims to defend Johnny Cash's voice and to send a
(02:32):
clear message that we must protect the voices of all
artists whose music enriches our lives. The advertisement features Sean Barker,
a professional impersonator of Cash. The Cassius State is requesting
a court order to take down the ad, financial compensation
under the Elvis Act, as well as damages for reported
(02:54):
violations of consumer protection laws in Tennessee. The complaint alleges
that Coca Cola has it exploited Johnny Cash's voice in
a broad advertising campaign for its own profit without seeking
permission or compensating the humble artist whose legacies they are
now benefiting from. Coca Cola has not yet responded to
(03:15):
the allegations. Meanwhile, a representative for Barker expressed excitement about
being invited to lend his vocals for the commercial. Barker's manager,
Joey Waterman, noted that Sean Barker has been performing his
Cash tribute The Man in Black, a Tribute to Johnny Cash,
for more than twenty years, sharing his passion for Cash's
(03:35):
music and stories with audiences around the world. Last year,
the Cash Estate released Songwriter That's a collection of previously
unreleased songs created by the country legend during a challenging
period in the nineteen nineties prior to his resurgence in
the fame throughout collaborations with Rick Rubin. Johnny Cash passed
(03:55):
away in two thousand and three, and now to Colorado,
where authorities say a missing girl from Ogden, Utah has
been found in a hotel room. A suspect has been arrested.
He's a convicted pedophile who was reported in a standoff
with police at the hotel before his arrest, and amberreller
was issued for the girl earlier on Wednesday. Lamar County
(04:17):
deputies arrested thirty five year old Christopher Thomas Wiggins on
Wednesday night after the standoff with law enforcement at the
Quality Inn in Suites in Wellington. Police said that Wiggins
was believed to be armed with a handgun when the
girl was abducted. They issued a shelter in place order
for the area surrounding the hotel while they worked to
(04:38):
bring Wiggins into custody. The girl's parents told KUTV that
Wiggins was an acquaintance but was forbidden to have contact
with their child when police in Ogden told her mother
that she was found safe. She said she was flooded
with relief after receiving the news. Her parents drove from
Utah to Colorado to pick up their daughter and bring
(04:59):
her home. Officials said that Wiggins has a previous conviction
for unlawful sexual activity with a fifteen year old in
twenty eleven. The Lamar County Sheriff's Office said he was
also wanted on a felony warrant for charges out of Utah.
