Chaos erupted the morning calm in southern California when a deranged,
naked madman launched a devastating home invasion that ended only
after a seventy nine year old Vietnam War veteran landlord,
despite having both his legs broken, managed to open fire.

(00:24):
The gruesome confrontation unfolded onto Hunga Avenue in Studio City
around seven am, when the male suspect, reportedly nude and
yelling incoherently, was captured on security camera footage wandering the
block listen. Police reports confirmed the unhinged man, whose name

(00:47):
has not been released, first tried to break into a
house across the street before forcibly invading a residence within
the Veterans apartment complex. Witnesses said he appeared to be
in a quote psychotic or drug induced state end quote,
banging on gates and shouting. The terrifying breach sent the
female tenant fleeing and screaming for help. The seventy nine

(01:11):
year old landlord, id'd by neighbors only as George, immediately
rushed from his own home to confront the intruder to
try to de escalate the situation, LAPD Captain Warner Castillo
tells the media what happened next. He tells the suspect
to leave and warns him that he has a gun,
grabs the seventy nine year old man and lifts him

(01:34):
up and throws him on the ground. The captain says,
the elderly man's being body slammed onto the concrete driveway
broke both of the veteran's legs. Despite the blinding agony
and being grounded with catastrophic injuries, the Vietnam vet managed
to draw his firearm as the naked assailant continued to

(01:56):
approach him. The landlord open fire. Captain Castillo stated the
suspect was shot at least two or three times in
the head and chest before collapsing and dying at the scene.
Neighbor Betsy Weiss spoke to CBS two News, it's a
textbook example of self defense and I really, really hope

(02:16):
he does not face charges. The veteran was rushed to
a local hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for his
shattered legs. The community has overwhelmingly rallied behind the injured
Landlord hailing the shooting as a heroic act that ended
the violent rampage. Investigators say there's no pre existing connection

(02:37):

who now may have to spend the rest of his
life in a wheelchair. More crime and Justice news. After this,

(03:00):
a simple mix up dissolved into a moment of unimaginable
tragedy in Whitestown, Indiana, when Maria Florinda Rios Perez de Velasquez,
a thirty two year old immigrant from Guatemala, was executed
while attempting to begin her workday. A devoted mom of

(03:20):
four children ranging in age from one to seventeen, she
accompanied her husband, Mauricio of Velasquez, to a suburban home
for a routine house cleaning job. Mauricio spoke to the
media through a translator, what I need now is for
there to be justice because he took her life. In
that sense, I don't believe that's human. He's an animal,

(03:43):
a dog. In a devastating lapse that cost her life,
The couple arrived at the wrong address. Maria stepped onto
the porch and tried to insert the key that had
been provided into the door of the residence. What happened
next was instant, heneous and fatal. A single bullet was
fired from inside the dwelling, tearing through the door and

(04:06):
striking Maria in the head. She collapsed, immediately, falling into
the arms of her husband, who watched the horrific scene unfold.
Neighbor Stephanie Spencer spoke to Fox fifty nine, it shouldn't
have happened, you know, don't shoot first fast questions later,
the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the front door

(04:27):
was never opened, and their initial findings emphatically state that
the evidence gathered does not support that a residential entry occurred,
confirming the victim was outside when the shot was fired.
The family is desperately seeking justice and has already raised
over one hundred thousand dollars to hire legal counsel and

(04:48):
repeat create her body to Guatemala. The Boone County Corner's
Office ruled her manner of death a homicide, a medical
classification that simply means her death was caused by the
act of another person. However, Whitestoun police have referred the
case to the Boone County Prosecutor's office, acknowledging that criminal
charges may not even follow. Indiana's stand your ground in

(05:13):
castle doctrine laws grant homeowner's extended protection justifying the use
of deadly force if they reasonably believe it is necessary
to prevent an unlawful entry or attack on their dwelling.
Prosecutors are now grappling with the concept of what constitutes
quote reasonable belief. In the meantime, the shooter has yet

(05:37):
to be publicly identified. The investigation continues, and finally talk
about a major clock up. A simple debate about poultry
production turned into a shootout at Harper's Pub in Port
Saint Lucy, Florida. Authority save forty four year old Peter Rieira,
a chicken farmer, got into an argument with three others

(05:59):
over the exact number of eggs a hen can lay.
For some reason, the argument wasn't over easy. Instead, it
got heated, fueled by alcohol. Cops say Rieira allegedly escalated
the foul play by pulling out a forty five caliber
block and firing four shots outside the establishment. Thankfully, no

(06:20):
one was seriously hurt as they scrambled. Cops cracked the
case and cuffed the suspect without incident. Rieira, who has
been denied bond, is facing multiple criminal charges. Meanwhile, two
of his debate opponents were also arrested for resisting officers.
Now the only remaining question is who's feeding RIIA's flock
while he's cooped up in jail. For the latest crime
