and he knocks on the door and I opened the
door and I have no idea who it is. And
then in my mind I'm like, what the fuck And
I look and I go, I know those eyes.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
It was hard. You know, remember in ET when the
guys are in full suits dealing with sick et. That's
what Daniel look. He was.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
He was fully when he geared.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Up, which I appreciate. If you're gonna come to my
house during COVID in Los Angeles. You better be peepee
Eat up, dude. He had the gloves on. Man, Yeah,
he had everything.
Speaker 3 (01:11):

Speaker 2 (01:12):
I'm sure he took the gloves off and disinfected his
hands right away.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
To listen.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
He probably, like most people in Los Angeles right now,
he probably has the hand sanitizer that smells like tequila.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Am I right?
Speaker 1 (01:26):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:26):
I have.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
I like this one. It's called job. This one makes
you smell delicious. What are you drinking?
Speaker 3 (01:34):
This is a little thing early for.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Whiskey, bro, so early. I'm living a COVID life.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
I'm gonna blow your mind. What this isn't whiskey? What
is it?
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Delicious?
Speaker 3 (01:48):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (01:50):
It's whiskey?
Speaker 3 (01:52):
No, it's not. It's actually it's a bourbon.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Oh oh, it's so warm.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
I have so much good I got spit dripping in
my mouth. I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
I have so much to talk to you about. I
wrote down notes because we have so much to talk about.
And ladies and gentlemen, we have the legendary Johnny c
McGinley on the show today. Did you know that Donald?
Speaker 3 (02:11):
I did not know John was on the show today.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
I love that you don't even know who Joel and
I are booking on the show. I handle the bookings
and Joel and danill make contact with them, and it's
a surprise to you.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
It looks like it's a surprise to Daniel too.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah. I didn't get an email, Joel.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
Do you not know that I did not have Johnny
C on our list for today?
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Oh my god?
Speaker 3 (02:36):
That is okay, So go on, Zach. What were you
saying to get that intro email?
Speaker 1 (02:43):
It's like Dan John's on the podcast. Oh shit, Well
now I'm now I'm embarrassed. Let me call him.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Did we talk to Johnny already?
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Well? I I worked out a long time ago, saying
when do you want to come on? And I guess
I assume you guys we're shooting the ship with him.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
I apologize about that.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Well, no, maybe it was a communication breakdown. Donald. You
can you can laugh at me if you want, But
I I don't know what's funny right now. Let's call
him and see.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
If he answer. Let's find out.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
I mean, I'm sure he's ready. Hey, Johnny C. It's
Zach Braff. Where you are you coming on the show today? Right?
Speaker 6 (03:24):
Today?
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Yeah? Oh? The twenty ninth. Okay, okay, I I had
a miscommunication and now I wasn't sure if it was
today or the twenty nine. Think Donald's laughing at me? Yeah,
twenty nine, hey zacky? Yeah, when when you started screaing?
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Why, yeah, while while the man was having trouble pooping.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yeah, I'm swallowed my gum. He's the funniest goddamn thing. Why,
I'm why you know your poop is bad when someone
yells walked? All right, I love you, I gotta go.
We're doing the podcast. Okay, Well, I I look like
(04:05):
an idiot right now. I'm okay with it.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
And you don't look like an idiot. Hold on, you
were about to go in on me though you were
about to go.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
I just think it's funny that you don't always know
who's on the show. Yes, do I look like an
idiot right now? Sure? And I think it's always important
when one looks like an idiot, that they acknowledge that
they do and that.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
They love you. You know what, I love you more.
But here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
You didn't have to apologize for that because it makes
for good pod.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Good pod. Oh you're short ningked now you give good pod?
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:35):
You give great pod. Your pod skills are like top notch.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
When you give pod, I just want to scream, dude.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
I freaking make I make audible noises when you're giving pod.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
I just when I pod with you, I just want
to shoot my never mind, you ruined it well myself.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
We were on the right track, but it.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Started to get r rated, and I I said, don't
like R rated content.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
We could have kept it that way and when somebody
was like, yo, you guys are being too uh racey,
graphic or racy, we could be like, get your mind
out of the other. We're talking about podcasting. You automatically
went to your pod is so good. I want to shoot,
and then there was no returning. There was no returning
from that.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
I fucked up. I fucked up again. Donald. I feel
maybe we can have Danel bleep some stuff because you
and I, rather than try and censor things when they
get pornographic, it would just be better to be ourselves.
And then when we listen to the edit, we can say, damn,
just beat that out beat it beat beat beat beat
beat beat that.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Out beat beat beat that out beat beat beat. Here
we go, put everybody gether around, getting.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Out the someone's calling me my agent. Should I answer it? Answer?
What if what if they have? What if they had
amazing news? What if they were like you got that
fucking boar? No? No, no, I I never I never
like to whatever your agent calls. It's either I mean,
(06:19):
obviously it can be medium medium news, but it's either
good news or bad news. I don't want to talk
to them right now. It's I'm really I'm waiting for
this giant megastar to say that he might want to
be in my movie.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
When you say giant mega star.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah, I'm saying I'm I'm not. I don't try and guess, please.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
But I am.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
It's that level, but not that age. It's it's a
it's an older fellow. But I'm not gonna listen. Please
don't guess because I I don't.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
I I just I'm nervous, And let me ask you
a question. These are sincere questions.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
You like, I know you've had like half a bottle
of bourbon at once.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
This is this is all I'm again. Do you think
you could beat Brad Pitt in a foot race?
Speaker 1 (07:06):
No? I can't be Brad Pitt at anything except maybe
singing show tunes.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Do you think you could be Brad Pitt at tennis.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Unless he's never played, probably not. I feel like he's
probably athletic. I've seen his abs.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Just because you've got abs, don't mean you're asking if you.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Have abs, you're probably a smidge in athletic.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
No.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
No, that's like, that's like, that's that's judging a book
by its cover.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
All Right, you're right, you're right. Why do you bring
up Brad Pitt?
Speaker 2 (07:30):
I'm just wondering because every time somebody says anything about anything,
you bring up Brad Pitt.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Do you want to dock with Brad Pitt?
Speaker 7 (07:37):
No?
Speaker 1 (07:37):
I don't want to doc Brad Pitt. I god, how
many We're five minutes into the show you're talking about
docking already, Dude.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
No, because I'm a little upset, I'm not. I take
that back. I'm not upset.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
I'm a little uh disturbed because this docking with Leo
thing has gone on.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
It's caught fire. It's a lot of things are catching
fire on the podcast. You know what else is caught fire?
Everyone's telling me their favorite new song is what you're
trying to get into? What day are shown?
Speaker 3 (08:06):
What you're trying to do? I love the fact that
everybody's spelling it correctly too.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Yeah, I bet they googled that ship. They didn't want
to be disrespectful to you.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
I like that. I like that, by the way.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
You know what, not only is that song fire, let's
be honest, but a lot of people don't know there's
I've I've written a second I had not just recently,
but back in the day when I came up with
this song, there was a second line to it. Do
you know what it is? The thing you're trying to
get into? What day you're shown? What is ant?
Speaker 3 (08:35):
It was better away?
Speaker 1 (08:37):
No, No, that's the second fucking line of the song.
Don't tell me why what you're trying.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
To get into? What you're trying to do?
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Two three four? The thing you're trying to get into
you're shown comic? What is it? Normally though, people know
when they're writing it down. Oh man, we got to
get someone to fucking remix this song for us.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
I just think I should be a ring tone. I
would I would not mind that being a ringtime come up.
In fact, somebody named their kitten shoe I know, so
they could sing what.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
You're trying to get into?
Speaker 1 (09:17):
Joelle can you tell the the ringtone folks that we
would like to make the deoshune song a ringtone.
Speaker 8 (09:25):
I can't.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
I think there may be a limitations only one ringtone
up at a time, or.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
No, we have like four up. We've got the theme song,
We've got no, sorry, we've got the theme song. We've
got Donald's just for a notification. Why would there be
a limit to ringtone.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
No, it wasn't it. You're right.
Speaker 5 (09:47):
It was a naming problem because we had the the
twice and they were like, oh.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yeah, my bad ring tone twice. All right, let me
let me lay it down. Clean everybody for the ring. Everybody,
keep it down, everybody, everbody, keep it down. I'm gonna
need this cleaner the ring here. I go, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, just.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Do the first verse. You don't need to do the
second verse.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Let me fucking warm up, please. Mommy made me mash
my m and ms. Mommy made me mash my m
and ms. The lips, the tip of the teeth, the tongue,
the lips, the tip of the teeth, the tongue, whether
it be cold, whether it be hot, will be together
whatever the whetherether we like it or not, Okay, that's
really fast.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Whether the weather is cold, whether the weather is hot,
will we be together whether the weather, whether you.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Like it or not. What whether be cold, whether it
be hot, will be together, whatever the weather, whether we
like it or not.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Peter Piper, the pick a peck of picker picked a
peck of pickle peppers, pickle picklepeppers.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
The Peter Piper, the pickle pepper.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
What you're trying to get into?
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Adation?
Speaker 1 (10:33):
What you're trying to get into? Adation? What's trying to
get into? Didation? Am I gonna see me there? It
is perfect pitch. What you're trying to get into?
Speaker 8 (10:43):
What day shoon?
Speaker 1 (10:45):
What you're trying to do?
Speaker 3 (10:50):
I like to you watch some growl and I did.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
I put a little growl on it. If it's gonna
be a ringtone, people deserve a little growl. That's fire. Okay, Dan,
make me sound good.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
I don't want reaver, but maybe a little bit of audits. No,
I don't need audits too. And that was perfect. It
was perfect. So many things I wanted to talk to
you about. It actually took notes. I took. Now that
Johnny's not in here, we don't have to fucking I
got my Xbox set up. A lot of people wing
in on the games I should play, and please continue
to suggest games. So just to be clear, I have
(11:21):
a brand new Xbox One. I like. I learned it's
called a third person.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Right, that's what it's third person shooter.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Third person shooter. I liked over the shoulder. I I
don't like spells and fantasy stuff like I don't want
to know about spells. So an example is Hitman. You
guys have said Red Dead Redemption, right, That's how I
call it? And yeah, Joelle, you would suggested the one
(11:51):
where you're it's travels through time and you're a killer.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
What's it called Assassin's Creed?
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Assassin's Creed? So if anybody has any games like that, now,
what if I want to play versus a friend of
mine in my house?
Speaker 2 (12:05):
What's those games like Red Dead Redemption are good for
that they have an online that's really awesome where you
can go on missions and still.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Do really, but if there's a friend who's in my pod,
who's sitting in my living room, can I can? I?
Can I play him? What's a good game to play him?
Speaker 9 (12:19):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Well, then you'd have to play go ahead.
Speaker 10 (12:21):
Oh you know, I don't want to interrupt. But there
are games called overcooked. Overcooked as a team cooking game.
One of the games that Donald mentioned, Castle Crashers, is
a fun you know sport or fun you know team game.
And then my favorite game is called Rocket League. And
Rocket League is car is a soccer in cars with
rockets on the back.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
That's really you might want to get into some sports
games like FIFA.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
I was gonna get a tennis that's cool too, That's
really cool. Yeah, Hey if I.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Play you, can I play you tennis over the internet. Yes,
let's do that, because I'll fucking crush you. Look at
his face is look out fist. If I can't beat
you in sports in real life, I'm gonna friggin crush
you on.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
The inter Probably beat me in tennis right now, man?
In real life, yep, I probably could.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Okay, that's one thing. Once I got it, and then
and then I took notes because I had so much
to say today. Joel, the game you had said that
you loved on the Switch. A lot of people said
it's like the prettiest game they've ever seen, and I
need to buy a Switch just to play that. Zelda game.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Yeah, yeah, said that.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Well, Joel and Daniel weighed in heavily. They we agree
with you. We agree with you one hundred percent. Now,
I tried to get a switch, by the way, and
they're they're sold out or marked up. Like I said
to Donald, these are things really six hundred bucks and
he said, no, that's like a mark up. Now you
can't even get them. You can't even get them on
the interwebs.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
You can get you could get a don't do it, Daniel,
don't do it, and you play in a ziplockbag.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Absolutely, you don't play yours anymore.
Speaker 10 (13:55):
It's I mean I I play a lot of games,
and so it's you know, kind of just sitting here
for the time being.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Okay, well you.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Bring it over in your full ppe again and just.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
You'll love Zelda. You'll really love Breath of the Wild. Okay,
if he.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Just gonna get a switch, because I I, uh, they're
like nine hundred dollars right.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Now, you need to switch. And then you go back
and be like I didn't.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
I said, no wizardy stuff.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Zella's got a little bit of.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Magic in it. It's a lot of magic in it.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
It's a lot they're going to be like, would you
like to cast a spell?
Speaker 3 (14:27):
No?
Speaker 10 (14:28):
Okay, all I'm saying is with Red Dead Redemption two,
I think there's something about the cinematic quality of that.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Yeah, you know, some of the some of the people
on my love it.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
You can go hunt, you can hunt.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Some of the people on my socials were saying that
I would like this game or that game because they
had a cinematic quality. And that's true. I would like
that Red Dead.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
You would love Red Dead.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
You're right about that, Daniel, because then you could play
the actual You don't even have to play online to start.
You could play the actual story mode.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
And that's I play online.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
What's the difference of playing online.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Well, you play with other people and then there's different
missions and you could create your own character.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Do you want to do that with me this weekend?
Do you want to go on a mission with me?
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Absolutely, Let's do a mission.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Let's kill a bear, a virtual bear, everybody. I do
not believe in killing real bears unless they're chasing you.
Michelle Branch followed me on Twitter swear to gee, and
I was thinking I'm gonna follow her back, and I
was thinking about dming her and saying, will you come
(15:33):
play everywhere on the podcast?
Speaker 3 (15:36):
That would be the best day ever. Turn me inside
out so I can.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
See Joella's fanning herself everybody.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Joel's losing her ship.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
This is the power of this podcast. This podcast is
always I saw Michelle Branch followed me, and I was like,
oh my god. And I didn't fall back immediately because
I was nervous. And then I thought I would present
to you guys the idea of her. Hey, since we're fans,
would you consider coming on and playing everywhere on the show. Donald,
what do you think that would be?
Speaker 2 (16:06):
That would be amazing if we could start a little
concert series.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
On Yeah, that's that's such a good idea.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
We are we are with iHeart, We are with a witch.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Speaking of by the way we should, we should, And
speaking of that, I want to end the show today
with this amazing song. I sent it to you Donald.
It's by my girlfriend's brother. Now you might think, oh, Zach,
you're bias since your girlfriend's brother, But Toby Sebastian is
so talented and I genuinely love his music. And I
was like on the treadmill today working out to this
(16:38):
song called Number One lover. It's gonna be one of
my big summer jams. And if it's all right with you, Donald,
I thought we could five six, seven eight at the
end of the show into it.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
Yeah, that's fine. That's start this concerence here.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
It's fire.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
It's a fire real friends.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
You guys are going to want to add it to
your playlist for for just summer bops. I think that's
what the kids call it, or your workout play this
because I was rocking out to it on the treadmill today.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
So this is what we're gonna do, guys. We're gonna
start a little concert series. We're gonna come up with
a name.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
We have Rayden.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Absolutely, we can have a bunch of people on This
is something that we're gonna do. We are with iHeart,
iHeart freaking handles all music. Yeah, maybe I do it
out legally and then we'll make this happen for you guys.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
So I think if we just ask people obviously that
handles the legal or if they're not a giant you know, artist, uh,
and they're our friend, I'm sure that we're allowed to
play them.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
I think if we just ask permission, I think that's
just about permission.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
I assume, right, my my knowledge and this isn't isn't
that well?
Speaker 1 (17:39):
You know, we can't just play, you know, a song,
but if we know the person or we ask permission,
I think we can play the song. There is my my,
my friend. I think he'll be fine. I think he'll
be thrilled. Because, by the way, this podcast is huge.
I don't know if you guys realize this. I got
another fal and I got another love letter from Will saying,
holy shit, you guys are on fuego. So there's people
(18:02):
all over the world listening.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
To this thing, and we appreciate them.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
Thank you guys so much, you so much. We thought
it would be like our moms and maybe eleven people, but.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
This well, I knew it wouldn't be my mom. I
knew it wouldn't be my mom, my mom, or my wife.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
I think my mom may have given up. I think
she started. But I gotta tell you no, it's just
a great feeling. It's a great feeling. How many of
you are listening to this and whenever, Will from iHeart
sends Donald and I an email with with with holy
shit somewhere in the paragraph it's a good feeling. I
love it.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
You know what we should do.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
But five six stories, I'm not sure we made about
a bunch of dogs and nurses.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
Said, he's a story.
Speaker 8 (18:51):
So yea, yea.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Here did you get that new T Swift album?
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Te Swift?
Speaker 3 (19:04):
That first jam is fired?
Speaker 1 (19:06):
That first jam is fire. She's got a song with
Bonnie Vera, which I really liked a lot of them.
If you heard that one.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Yet, I've listened to a little bit of it. I
listened to the first song about what's the first song?
Speaker 1 (19:17):
I think it's called like the first one or something
like that.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Yeah, where it's like, you know, yo, I knew you'd
come back all of that stuff. I knew you'd come
back that. Like, that's the end of it, dude. She's
on some writing. She's got some writing in her right now.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Dude. She's not pressing around.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
She's good and you know what she made it sort
of a I mean, I don't listened a whole thing,
but it's sort of ACOUSTICI and pianoy.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
And it's folk. Man Like, you.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
Can't say that that girl is not talented. If you're
out there, if there's a person out there, you might
not love her style, but you cannot be a human
being and not say that that girl has talent.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
This is the conversation I was having because me and
my wife have this conversation all the time because I
kind of flip flop when it comes to Taylor. Like
I remember when it when she first came out, I
was like, that's like my little I want my daughter
to be Taylor Swift. And then she started tattletaling on
you know, who she's dating and everything and songs. I
was like, I'm not really into that, but let me
(20:13):
tell you something right now. The songs that she sings,
the way she writes, now, she's a She's a modern
day She's a modern day poet.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Man.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
She she is.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
A modern day.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Especially knowing that she writes her own stuff too. I mean,
I'm sure the young lady has got some tremendous songwriting skills.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
I'm just understand that she's writing the lyrics on her own.
I think she's got she's got lots of collaborators with
the music. If I'm not mistaken, it does.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
I don't care how her instruments, Yes, she does like
a lot of guitar and piano stuff. I mean, her
parents are in the recording industry, which is how she
sort of got involved and like, to your guys, this
credit her nineteen eighty nine album, which I think is
the album right, No, there's an album that one in
this one. But then I album sold so well and
did so like banger numbers, like other artists, like did
(21:03):
an entire rendition of the nineteen eighty nine album. Yeah,
I just copied it front to back. And so she's
been on that pop sea.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
That that that that record's got so many dope songs
from shake It Off to got.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
A long list of ex lovers.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
Dude, I got one of those songs on my current
workout playlist. I want to tell you which one it is,
because this, by the way, my workout playlist. I really
I'm gonna come through and make a workout mix for
for for the people, because I mean, there's Avril Levigne
complicated on here. By the way, here's a really good
song you guys probably don't know by Weezer called Feels
Like Summer, and I highly recommend that song because it
(21:42):
is a great summer bop. As the kids say, wait,
what's my Taylor Swift song on this? Oh you need
to calm down. I like that yous somebody that we
don't know. But you're taking shots at me like it's
put on and I'm just like, damn, it's seven am.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
You know I'm gonna be honest with you.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
You're Jim playlist and my gym playlist are completely different.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
I know that we've established that, but I have a
feeling because you like a lot of this girl pop
shit too, you just want to hide it in front
of our listeners.
Speaker 3 (22:10):
I'm not hiding anything in front of our listener.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
I feel like if you you might turn off DMX
from one of your workouts and put on Avril Levine.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Avril Labrine. Don't get me hype like DMX get me hype.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Just wait till you hear complicated with some bass.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
That shit is so slow. Listen, wait, watch.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Did you watch some that I sent you the I
hate it when you don't reply to hurt my feeling.
You really hurts my feeling. I bet our listeners couldn't
believe that how many times you don't reply to me?
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Dude.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
Listen, man, here's the thing I said, Donald, it's always
nice stuff.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
It's always It's not like, hey man, here's a request
to do something. It's like Hey man, there's this DMX
Snoop thing that's on. I think you're gonna like it.
No reply, no reply.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
It was dope.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Oh so you didn't watch it. You didn't watch it.
It's interesting and you didn't even say I'm already watching.
Love you.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
Thanks you for the recommend that was. You know, those
two got so many hits, it's ridiculous.
Speaker 8 (23:09):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
I love DMX, I love Snoop Dogg. Shout out to
them both.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
Should we get into the show.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
Let's get into the show. Do you want to do
the breakdown?
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Oh yeah, Tipsy, I'm a little woozy, as the kids
say nowadays, you're you're woozy.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
No woozy is when you've gone hard and then you
get tired.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
No woozies when I'm a little drunk.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
And then you take a little and then you take
a little nap.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
And it's not that I take a little nap. The
booze forces me to nap.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Well, what my puppy does is she sprints around the yard,
sprince s Prince, Sprince, s Prince Sprince. And then it's
like her batteries are dead and she collapses and she's
woozy and now.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
And then when you when you're woozy, you're also kind
of like disoriented, like your body's like I should be
standing but I can't.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Right, And then you yell at your friend, A'm woozy.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
You ready? Yeah, get the stop Watch? Okay?
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Stand by Donald? Am I stopwatch? Okay? Not World Clock?
Stop Watch? Okay and go.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
This episode is about being humbled. JD and Carl are
both very high on their horses and mess with the
alpha in the hospital. Elliot has not only been cut
off financially from her father but also as misdiagnosed the patient.
The three of them experience the rise and falls of reality,
meaning there will be days in life where luck is
(24:26):
on your side and days when it's not. The question
is can you adjust and keep it moving forward?
Speaker 1 (24:33):
Beautiful, beautiful twenty seven seconds. Nicely done, nicely done. This
is a very good, very good episode.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
You liked this episode?
Speaker 1 (24:42):
Yeah? I did? You didn't?
Speaker 3 (24:43):
I laughed?
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Did you not like it?
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Times?
Speaker 1 (24:45):
Okay, because you're you have fhazoned a little bit.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
But I was all right to get phase OneD in
this episode.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Okay. Now, I thought the scene at the end with
Johnny C and I is one of the better scenes
of the show thus far.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
Yeah, you know, my wife, she got she watched the
show with me. This is her first time.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
She's never really watched Scrubs before, so this is maybe
her third episode that she's actually seen.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
My girlfriend total doesn't watch it either, so I can relate.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Yeah, and she was like, oh my god, I just
teared up. It's like, okay, yeah, I.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
Can tell you said I got to be honest with
you listeners and you my compatriots. I think that that
scene at the end of this episode where doctor Cox
comes in and has an honest moment with me. It's
not a very long scene. It's probably forty five seconds
if that is really moving, and Johnny c is really
good in it, and I think I'm proud of the
(25:37):
way I am in it too, And it's Scrubs at
its best, which was just dropping in and having a
really frank, emotional, but honest conversation and I got goosebumps
and it was very moving to me.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Yeah, it was to me too. You know, you were lucky.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
JD was very lucky this this this episode in the beginning, and.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Then he was unlucky.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
And it was really it was really interesting to see
the dynamic of.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
How he takes things.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
He saved a patient's life in the beginning, and he's overjoyed.
He loses a patient and JD is such a good doctor. Now,
granted there's stuff behind it, like you know, he wants
to be He still wants to be the best he
possibly can be. But he goes to the morgue to
check out, Okay, what did I do wrong? How did
I mess up? What went wrong here? And just turns
(26:30):
out it wasn't his day and I thought. Even though
it's subtle and he doesn't respond in tears and he's
not breaking, he's not all broken up about the passing
of the patient. The fact that he cared enough to wonder, Okay,
why did I make a mistake? So where did I
make a mistake so I don't make it the next
time is really really important.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
That's one of the things that can get lost in
all the the zaniness that's happening is that JD's a
really good doctor and also strives to be an extraordinary doctor.
Right and so when he when he feels he may
have fucked up, he's just obsessing about it and wants
to learn and wants to wants to be better and
wants to be great. So I don't know, I just
(27:13):
really like that. I love it when the show just
drops in and has just just a scene where people
are really honest and straight. And I thought that scene
at the end. Actually, it's funny when I when I
thought Johnny c was coming on this episode today, I
thought it was like, oh, I bet he because I
asked him. I said, hey, man, we want to have
you back, you know, pick pick which one you want
to come on for. And when I saw that scene,
(27:34):
I go, oh, I bet he wanted to come on
for this one because he's really good in that scene.
He's really good in the whole episode. And turns out
I was wrong.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
You were You know, the whole thing is really about
you know, what JD goes through. But it's not because
even in stories where he seems to be the main
character in the whole episode, where it seems like it's
based on him, the story really is and it's about
who he's connect to, you know what I mean, It's
about who's connected to him. So like we had Tom
(28:04):
Kavanaugh on just recently, great episode by the way, and uh,
you really believe that it's the show Like when watching
it at first, I was like, oh, this is a show.
This episode is about how JD reacts to his brother. No,
this episode really is about Tom Cavanaugh. You know what
I mean, It's not about what. It's not about I
(28:24):
don't know, it's it's it's it's I'm having a hard
time explaining it right now. But I just feel like
JD is, even though he's the leader, he's the lead
on the show, the show is never really about him,
and this is one of those episodes where it was
about him and was about you know, how uh how
(28:46):
how serious he takes every how serious he takes this
job in the hospital.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
Yeah, well said, well whatever, you can hate on me
all you want.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
It's just it's just, you know, now I'm watching it
from a different point of view. Before I was watching
it or not watching it because I was on it,
And now that we've started this whole podcast thing, it's like, well,
you know, what is Bill trying to say? What are
the writers trying to say when they're making this. I
get that this has a long run and it's going
to be on for a really long time, but I
(29:20):
feel like every episode somebody's trying to say something, trying
to some messages trying to come.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
In and also make it universal because obviously this is
an extreme work environment. This is they're literally dealing with
life and death. But make it universal for people who
no matter what your job is, no matter what your
relationship status is, that no matter what country live in,
that there's certain just truths about being a human and
being in love and having best friends and striving to
(29:50):
do great both in life and in your job that
are universal and and the show really attempts to tease
all that out so we can all share a common story.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
But this episode, you know, it almost felt subliminal, you
know what I mean. It's like if you're not really
paying attention, you don't pick up on that. You just
pick up on the jokes and the fact that Cox is,
you know, back with Jordan, and you don't really dig
that deep into it. That's what really, to be honest
with you, this whole having to summarize the story in
thirty seconds, that's what that's doing for me now, because
(30:22):
now it's like, all right, what is this about?
Speaker 3 (30:24):
What is what is the writer trying to say?
Speaker 2 (30:26):
Yeah, in this story, it's not just about there's a
funny joke, at two minutes into the it's it's more
than that. It's about you know, overall, there's a message
that I'm trying to make clear.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
For all of the viewers.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
And this is one of those episodes, like ever since
the last episode, I'm like, all right, what are we
trying to.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Yeah, that's true, that's true. They all have some underlying message.
It was, but I think you've been good. You've been
good at teasing out what it is, even more than
more than the voiceovers do. This is the episode that
Neil Flynn is not in. I forgot. We we figured
out what the reason was. Do you remember what it was?
Speaker 3 (31:03):
So they didn't have to pay him?
Speaker 1 (31:06):
But why there was it? Some they're not trying to
save just Neil's salary.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
He's not a regular at this point.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Oh I think if he had done X amount of episodes,
they would have had to bump him up to a
higher salary.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Right, he didn't become an official regular, I guess until
season three.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
That can't be true because they put him in the
in the in the rejected new title sequence.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
I don't know, dude, and it was credit on this episode.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Yeah, I think, But didn't Neil say wait, didn't Neil
say something, you guys when he was on that there
was a quick scooter joke that he he wrote in
and he and he wiped out and then and I
was an electric scooter, and then they ended up cutting
that out. That's why he's credited, but he's not in
the episode because it was just one quick pop but
they edited it out.
Speaker 8 (31:50):
That makes sense.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
I'm trying to remember, we've done so many of these,
trying to recall all.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Of Oh, by the way, speaking of of of trivia,
I went on Scrubs Wiki today as I normally do
before the episode, and I scrolled down to trivia, which
is the section I enjoy the most, and the top
the top bullet point is loving the podcast, Zach exclamation point,
(32:17):
all the love in the world to you and Donald
happy to keep answering trivia and hell no, I'd never
sell those funko pops. So there you go. I think
we have a clear answer from from Trevor wikie that
he's down.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
Okay, Trevor, but.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
I think you know he wasn't. He wasn't hiding messages
in the Scrubs Wiki until now, So I think it's
all this talk of the signed Funko pops. That's really
made him tickled.
Speaker 3 (32:43):
I'm just gonna keep it one hundred. We had to
bribe him to get him.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Well, we don't know that, Donald, We don't know that.
You don't have to keep it one hundred. You could
keep it a dollar fifty.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
That's more than one hundred.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
No, one hundred dollars is keep it one hundred is
one hundred dollars. I said you could keep it a
dollar fifty.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
One hundred pennies is a dollar keep it one hundred.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
But I thought when people were saying one hundred, they
meant one hundred dollars, not one hundred nineties.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
It's not keep it one hundred dollars, it's keep it
one hundred percent with me.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
Oh, keep it on a hundred percent with you. Dog
got it okay, So I'm gonna keep it one hundred
with you. Trevor wiki is down af to participate.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
As long as he gets the funkos.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Yeah, well the funkos have been signed. Dan is gonna
take You're gonna send it whatever you got, No, no, no, no,
just you. Where does Trevor Wickie live. I don't know.
I mean, what state do we know?
Speaker 3 (33:39):
A double check.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
You's gona send me his address, lady.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Okay, Well, Trevor Wiki, you've got some signed Funko pops
headed towards is the first one I've ever signed. I
didn't know whether to sign on the box or on
the actual figurine? Donald, did you sign the box or
the figure?
Speaker 3 (33:51):
I signed the box. I didn't sign the figurine.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Okay, I signed the box too.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
Yeah, you know, you know you just made Trevor Wiki
a lot of money. He could no.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
But he just promised in the secret message on the
Scrubs Wiki that he wasn't gonna sell them. I believe Scrubb.
I believe Trevor Wiki is a man of his word. Zack,
you don't believe Trevor Wicki's a man of his word.
Trevor wicked. I need you to hide me and the
next week's episode it needs you to hide me. Another
message in scrubs Wiki that you that you pinky swear
that you won't sell them.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
You're saying that you how much could they be worth?
Speaker 1 (34:21):
Really?
Speaker 3 (34:22):
Come on, you've never signed one, so that's one in one.
There's only one of the.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
One of one. Yeah, and I won't be signing anymore
because in COVID, who the hell is going to come
up to me and ask me to sign them? So
it's he's got an exclusive.
Speaker 3 (34:36):
Do you know what that means?
Speaker 1 (34:37):
That it's worth what fifty bucks?
Speaker 3 (34:39):
It's priceless.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
He's not gonna sell it. The man loves Scrubs and
he's got the only signed JD Scrubs Funko Pop. Come on,
that's a treasure.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
And if you don't sign it and you die, it's price.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
By the way, Trevor, Wikie makes sure that you. Oh,
if I die, then it's worth some money. If I die.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
Worth it's like a boss.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
No, that's like twenty million dollars. I think it might
even if I die, the only signed JD's Crubs Bob
could be worth like a thousand bucks.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
And everybody knows Trevor has it too. Trevor, are you
good with the martial arts?
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Well, we're not gonna say where the guy lives. We're
not gonna eat people, aren't gonna be coming into his house.
Speaker 2 (35:18):
For seventeen twenty six ridgro Way, No, I don't know, dude.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
Let's take a break.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
We'll be right back after these fine words.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Yo, John Michelle and the begetting of the show. Dude.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Yes, So the first face you see, the angry neighbor
is John Michelle. He is one of our editors. He
won the uh he won the Ammy for editing scrubs?
Speaker 3 (35:47):
Is he the only person to ever win an Emmy
four scrubs?
Speaker 1 (35:49):
Good question? Did casting win?
Speaker 3 (35:52):
It's a good question. Let's find out we were? We were?
We were?
Speaker 1 (35:54):
We were nominated a bunch, but we always lost to
other other more popular shows. Do you want to as
a bride's always a bridesmaid, never a bride?
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Do you want to ask Bill this one? This is
something he might enjoy?
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Or should we ask Trevor WICKI?
Speaker 3 (36:08):
No, Trevor Wikie isn't This is something.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
He just said that he wants to participate.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
You let's ask him like some like real trivia stuff.
This is something that.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
Bill would like to talk about. You know that calads
for creating such a wonderful show.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
I remember one year we got like nominated for like
a bunch of categories, but not the I don't know.
We never want anything, I don't think.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Well, yes, dude, I remember the one time we were.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Babean and beat me one one year and then Tony
Shalou beat me like every year.
Speaker 3 (36:36):
Every year. I remember when chalub you want every he
beat everybody.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
I've never seen an episode of Monk. I'm sure it's
a wonderful show. But have you ever seen episode of Monk?
Speaker 3 (36:45):
I've never watched a Monk in my life.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
I've never seen episode a Monk. Okay, well, there you go.
Joel's the one who loves Monk. I think seniors love
Monk and Joel and seniors and Joel.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
It's like Matt Locke Danield.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Have you ever seen an episode of Monk? Yeah, yeah,
I've seen a few episodes. It must be great. I mean,
the man's a wonderful actor.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
And yeah, but he just he's one of the best.
Man Come on, No, I'm not. You know who my
favorite is.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Though, Like listen, you know I love Leo. You know
I loved Denzel Stanley Tucci oh my.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, he's great.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
I love me so much so that Zach was doing
a play in New York City and he was doing
it with uh, who is it.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
Sutton Foster plot?
Speaker 5 (37:33):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (37:33):
No, which one it was? Well, you're talking about to
play I did with Sutton Foster, Bobby Knave OLLI and
are a greener. Yes, that was called trust.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
And at the time, you guys were, you know, would
go to that little diner or bar or whatever.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
It is called a diner. My girlfriend calls it a
diner too. It's not a diner, it's a speakeasy.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Okay, well it looks like a diner. I'm gonna just
keep it one hundred.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
And because she called it, I didn't know. She called
it a speakeasy diner, and I was like, why do
you call diner? It's a speakeasy.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
Anyway, So we're there and Tucci and Shaloub were doing
a play together with Justin National Treasure.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
What's his name, Bartha Bartha. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
I love that you call them Justin National Treasure, Justin.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
B because I couldn't think of Bartha, who later.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
Went to star in my first play, All New People,
which we performed off Broadway.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
In going anyway, my point is I made an ass
of myself that night. To Tony Shaloub, I met I meet,
I meet, not Tony Shaloub.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
To Stanley Tucci.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
I have good celebrity encounters. They're always in bound.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Because when I meet people who I have gett nervous
I get. So it's not that I get nervous, and if.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
You were speakeasy, you probably had a.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
Few, absolutely, But I get like I get when I
see people who I appreciate and whose work moves me,
I want them to know that that happened for some reason,
and I cannot keep it to myself. And I know
how I I react to people when they are that
way towards me, and how I'm like it, you are
just a little too extra right now.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
That's me. I can't help it.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
And I damn near hit on the dude, Like I'm
sure he was like, this guy wants to freaking make
out with me right now. Like I was like, I
love you so much. Everything you do is been the best.
I can't get over it you have. Like I was, like,
your range is ridiculous. I've seen you play gangster. I've
(39:32):
seen you play every you know, every every spectrum of
you know, whatever it is that is human out there,
I've seen you. Like I was like over over myself,
over him, and oh my god, I could see in
his face he was like, oh God, please get this
guy away from me.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
And then somebody hinted him.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
By the way, the reason people go to this place
is so they don't get bothered by people like you.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
Yeah, no doubt, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
And then I think some he spilled to him, like, yo,
that's Donald Faizon, he was on scrubs, he was in clueless,
he's he's he's an actor, he's done some work, he's successful.
And so he comes over to me and tries to
make amends because at first he was like, yo, dude,
back the fuck up.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
Oh he thought he was dismissive of you, very dismissive.
He would say, good look for Stanley Tucci. Then you're
saying he was dismissive of you until you knew you
were famous.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
So we're at a bar drunk and some stranger comes
up to you and does that, I don't care who
you are, you're going to be like, dude, I'm not
trying to say.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Well, we also don't know what you were like, I mean,
you might be you might have been like I'm.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Right, and I'm just saying you saw me with Tom Cavanaugh.
Amplify that with alcohol, right, it's another story, like I'm
probably spinning on the man. My breath was well, it
might not have been bad, but it was definitely hot
and in his face, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
So he probably needed a napkin after you spoke to
him just right.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
If Corona, if Corona was back, then he would probably attack.
It would be like one of those Karen moments where
you know, you attack.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
Oh my god, crazy.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
Did you see the Karen and the pizzeria getting Oh
my god, there's so many Karens.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
There's a lot of Karens now, there are a lot
of there are so many Karens that there's so many
Karens that people named Karen are like, please stop with
the turning our name into a derogatory statement.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
You know what's funny. I watched the Karen video of
this crazy woman out, you know, and they're always about
I have a right, the Constitution says I don't have
to wear a mask. They're always just fucking batshit. And
the one I watched is in the pizzeria and this
guy started calling her like he was screaming it don't
come anywhere near me, Karen, Like people are starting to
use Karen in the videos. He was like, you back up, Karen,
(41:42):
all right? Should we get into the show now, we're
barely talking about the show. You're reading in the opening
scene a skin Diver magazine. Now, I don't know why
you're reading skin Diver magazine, do you.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
I think, you know, he's looking at a little bit
of you know, it's like Maxim.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
It's not Maxim. It's like a magazine for people that
go like free diving. I think it was just a
prop on the on the on the on the coffee table,
and you probably picked it up and decided your character
was reading a magazine.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
Skin Diver.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
Didn't sound like that to me for some reason, some reason,
when you said skin Diver just now sounded like Turk
was looking at you know, oh.
Speaker 1 (42:23):
Like a playboy Maxim kind of thing. No, it wasn't that.
If you look at the cover, it's like it looks
like a diving thing.
Speaker 3 (42:29):
Okay, props or props.
Speaker 1 (42:33):
I think, you know, we're not allowed to just hold
up any real magazines, so there's also like bullshit magazines
lying around, And I imagine you were like, maybe Turk's
reading a magazine. Yeah, maybe I don't read any magazines anymore.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
I don't when's the last time you read a magazine
I read?
Speaker 1 (42:52):
I subscribed to Architectural Digest because I love architecture and design.
I subscribe to uh American Cinematographer because I love cinematography
and geek out on camera toys.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
But you can get all of these online.
Speaker 1 (43:09):
I know, But I like a physical thing to hold still.
And then what do you do after I get this?
I get the Sunday New York Times and read that
on Sundays.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
And what do you do after when you what do
you do with it after you're done reading it? What
do you do after you're done reading it?
Speaker 1 (43:23):
I throw them out? I mean I recycle them like
a good citizen. I like a physical magazine. I used
to buy them in the airport when I was flying.
I don't really do that anymore.
Speaker 3 (43:33):
Your phone, you used to read.
Speaker 1 (43:37):
What did you say the the What was this magazine
that you said was Black Maxim?
Speaker 3 (43:42):
King?
Speaker 1 (43:42):
I used to read King. You used to love King.
Speaker 3 (43:50):
I still love King.
Speaker 1 (43:52):
Your co star Stacy Dash. Wasn't she on the cover
of King?
Speaker 3 (43:56):
She was on the cover of King. I remember it
was very people on that issue.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
Yeah, I think it was a very uh naughty photograph
if I recall.
Speaker 2 (44:04):
Listen, you know when Stacy Dash does anything that is
uh naughty, people pay attention.
Speaker 1 (44:10):
Yeah, she's she's she she she's a unique gal. That's
Stacy Dash. We have a picture where we ran into her, right,
she was wearing a cowboy hat.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
Yeah, dude, no, yeah yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 3 (44:25):
That's the cowboy hat.
Speaker 1 (44:26):
Yes, all right, let's let's go off Stacy Dash and
talk about David Copperfield. I remember when he dies.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
That was pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
That was very cool.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
Yeah, and John Ritter also back on this.
Speaker 1 (44:39):
I didn't even know I would have gotten it wrong
that John Ridder did another cameo. This one was was
a quick little fantasy pop that I that I learned
from Scrubs Wiki was done on the set of his
show Eight Simple Rules. So I imagine they just went to
his sitcom set and shot that quick little pop. But
I had no idea I would have totally gotten the
tribuna wrong that the John ended up being in more
(45:01):
than one episode.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
I love the fact that that JD's dad never bought
him a whole bike.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
He just bought them parts of the bike and.
Speaker 1 (45:07):
Haus he never had any money.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
Right, and eventually, you know, JD would have the full
bike and he was like, maybe later we could take
the bike bicycle bell around the block for it's beIN.
Speaker 1 (45:17):
Yeah, and then I come back and I go I
never did get that kickstand. But I want to have
about Cofield because I remember Copperfield rolled up in like
a tour bus, and I thought that was so baller that, like,
you know, the guy. I don't know why.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
He maybe he doesn't fly.
Speaker 1 (45:34):
I assume he's based in Vegas, as a lot of
famous magicians are, and maybe he doesn't fly, or maybe
he did his show and said, let's hop on the
tour bus and I'll go to sleep and take me
to take me to Hollywood to do my cameo. But
I just remember that I thought it was cool at
the time that Copperfield rolled up in a big, old
baller tour bus.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
You risk so much, especially if you got to be
back in Vegas in a certain amount of time, you
know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
It's pretty cool, man, if you had that, if you
had the kind of money I imagine he has, and
you're and you got to do your show, and you're like, oh,
we got to go to do that cameo on Scrubs.
All right, Jammy stick the bus. I'm gonna go to sleep.
We'll wake up there.
Speaker 3 (46:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (46:12):
Sure, it's pretty baller. That's gonna be like you and
I and Daniel and Joel when we're doing our our
our tour.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
Of fake our European tour.
Speaker 1 (46:21):
Yeah, well, a European tour, I think is more more
realistically gonna happen before the North American tour, because you know,
on account of the where fuckedness.
Speaker 2 (46:31):
But dude, holy cow, JD gets it right. JD gets
it right in this episode. Yeah, in the beginning of
the episode, JD.
Speaker 1 (46:41):
It's a big swing and gets.
Speaker 3 (46:43):
It right and gets lucky.
Speaker 1 (46:46):
Necritizing fasci itis.
Speaker 3 (46:48):
Have you ever done that before?
Speaker 2 (46:49):
Have you ever taken Have you ever been like, all right, look,
I have no idea what I'm gonna do. I'm just
gonna go for broke. See what happens. Like Have you
ever swung for the fences with no clue?
Speaker 1 (47:00):
The ball defences all the time, but with.
Speaker 3 (47:02):
No clue, with no preparation.
Speaker 1 (47:05):
Well, he had an inkling, He had an inkling. He
had a gut reaction because he had seen this on
a TV show about necharizing necrotizing fasciitis. And doctor Cox says,
that's fucking the rarest thing that never happens. Shut up,
and he happens to be right, and so he had
an inkling of a clue. I feel like in life
there's times that I've taken some big swings and they
and they've worked out. I think that's what Jad's doing.
(47:27):
He's taken a big ass swing. What if it's necartizing
fasciitis and he guessed.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
Right, that's ballsy man.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
It's a it's an amazing Uh, it's a you know,
I you know, it's a it's not even a gut feeling.
It's just Tim saying it could be this, and I
if I'm right because of the similarities.
Speaker 3 (47:49):
Holy shit.
Speaker 1 (47:50):
And he just happened to be watching that TV show.
I mean, think about it. He saved the guy's life
because he just happened to be watching that show.
Speaker 3 (47:58):
Yeah, amazing, and it's take.
Speaker 1 (48:01):
Gordon has a line finally in the set two line
to line his pokah shells are intact?
Speaker 3 (48:08):
Are they on his neck?
Speaker 1 (48:09):
Yeah? It's a choker like Joelle Joelle. You know, like
Joelle said, chokers are fire. He's got like a choker
pukash shell choker, which I didn't even know was a thing.
Speaker 3 (48:18):
Do you want to do you want to ask him
about it. I'm sure we can get yes.
Speaker 1 (48:21):
When we asked Deontay, that's a nice new segment.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
Here's here's a here's a new segment we're going to
try out today. Guys.
Speaker 2 (48:27):
It's ask Deontay Gordon, Dude, what the heck was up
with the puka shells?
Speaker 3 (48:33):
Were they in style back then? And if so, why
did you opt for the choker?
Speaker 2 (48:37):
Why not the like the the the twenty four inch
pooka shell necklace?
Speaker 1 (48:44):
Yeah, Deontay, we'd like to know. We don't believe in
two thousand and two that puckas shells were in style.
Maybe we're wrong. And why were you wearing them as
a choker?
Speaker 11 (48:54):
Were pokah shells in fashion? You know, in my heart
I want to say yes, but I'm pretty sure two
thousand and two would be like, no, dude.
Speaker 1 (49:05):
It's not, it's not. Yeah, it was a choker.
Speaker 11 (49:09):
It a little tight, little tight on the neck, can't lie.
But it was because I got it as a kid
in Hawaii and I had found it in an old
drawer years later, and I put it on one day
and the class got stuck and I had to go
to set, and I decided, you know what, I'm just
gonna rock it because I couldn't think of anything friendlier
(49:31):
than a guy wearing a pukashell necklace. And Scrubs was
coming a big show, so you know, we want to
stand out a little bit. And you know what's friendlier
than the guy had a pukashell necklace. I couldn't think
of anything nothing friendlier. All right, guys, I love you
even when you're clowning.
Speaker 1 (49:47):
Thank you Deonta, Thank you Deontay. That's our new segment,
asked Deontae who to refresh your memory? Was Donald's stand
in and also our friend and cohort on the scrub
set and on this episode has two lines as and
he has a name, we learned Frank Mark. No, I
think it's Mark, and that's why he's pissed at me.
His name is.
Speaker 3 (50:07):
Frank got it hey, And that would never knew.
Speaker 1 (50:10):
That Deontay, the Orderly's character had a name Frank.
Speaker 2 (50:13):
I think this would probably be the last time Deontay's
on the show.
Speaker 1 (50:17):
No, that's not true.
Speaker 3 (50:18):
You think we'll have him back again on the podcast?
As as Frank Oh.
Speaker 1 (50:24):
On Scrubs, I'm sure, I'm sure of it. Alan Ruck
is on the.
Speaker 3 (50:38):
Show most of You might remember him from Ferris Bueller's
Day Off.
Speaker 12 (50:42):
Yes, when Cameron was in Egypt's land, Let my camer
goal says these things.
Speaker 1 (50:53):
Let my Cameron go.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
I know that Cameron's so uptight that if you shoved
a piece of coal up his ass in a month,
you'd have a diamond.
Speaker 1 (51:00):
Is it a month or two weeks?
Speaker 3 (51:01):
I don't know, I don't remember. It's one something like that.
Speaker 1 (51:04):
In two weeks you have a diamond. That's a very
woody joke. He's a very funny man. He was on
Spin City, and this continues the Bill Lawrence tradition of
asking cast members from his old show Spin City to
come to cameos. We had, Heather, we had. We eventually
have them all, most of them, I believe.
Speaker 4 (51:25):
H Richard Kind, I have Yaba, I have Yeah, Yes,
i'd been to the zoo.
Speaker 1 (51:32):
Go on. Yes, he said, like, this is only you
would only get this disease if you had spent time
in some rare part of Africa amongst amongst these animals.
Speaker 3 (51:42):
I have been to the zoo.
Speaker 1 (51:43):
Go on, I have been to the zoo. Go on.
Richard Kind is very good golfer. I'll bet you didn't
know this trivia George Clooney's best friend.
Speaker 3 (51:55):
I didn't. I wonder if he got some of that
money for that.
Speaker 1 (51:57):
Uh I think he did. Oh no, No. But the
the you know, the famous anecdote where George Clooney gave
all his friends a million bucks.
Speaker 3 (52:05):
That wasn't after the tequila I think.
Speaker 1 (52:08):
I think I think it was after he accidentally stumbled
into a billion dollar tequila business. It was before. You
imagine you're sitting around with your friends and you're like, basically,
as I understand the Costa Migos story is that George
and Randy Gerber and a bunch of I think it
was just George and Randy Gerber. They love tequila, and
they were like, you know what we have the means like,
no one's making the tequila exactly like we like it,
(52:29):
so let's just make it ourselves. So they did the
research and they contacted the right people, and they made
this tequila that was supposed to be just for like
them and their friends. It's like super bespoke tequila just
with them, and then all of a sudden it catches
on and becomes so big that they make a billion
dollars off Costa migos. That's that's one of George Clooney
accidentally made a billion dollars.
Speaker 3 (52:48):
It's my favorite story ever in the history of you
and I.
Speaker 1 (52:52):
You know, a lot of famous duos release their own
line of booze. Brian Cranston and and and Aaron Paul
put out one.
Speaker 3 (53:02):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (53:03):
I don't know?
Speaker 3 (53:04):
Okay, what is it?
Speaker 1 (53:05):
Joelle jin or something? I don't know, But why don't
you and I release our own booze? Maybe we could
make some of that Clooney billion dollars.
Speaker 3 (53:14):
Dude, what if we put out booze? Yeah, that would
make me one of the happiest people on the planet.
Speaker 1 (53:22):
Well, let's do it. What kind of booze should we
put out? You can't do something obvious that's been crushed already,
like vodka and tequila.
Speaker 3 (53:29):
We can't go near that, I know, because everybody got
a vodka.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
Everybody's got a vodka, and we're not going to try
and compete with Imagine.
Speaker 3 (53:35):
We're like, yo, it's up there with Sarraq.
Speaker 1 (53:39):
Ohk is killing it too. That's like, I think Puffy's
made more money off Sarak than anything.
Speaker 3 (53:44):
I don't. I don't know that he I don't know
how much of Saraki owns.
Speaker 1 (53:49):
Oh I thought I thought Sorak was his.
Speaker 3 (53:52):
I don't know, I don't know it.
Speaker 1 (53:53):
All right, Well, listen, you guys are hearing it first here.
Donald and I are going to develop our own booze.
Speaker 5 (54:00):
You don't mind because because Aaron Paul and Bran Hanson
they did a mescal called those Ombres.
Speaker 1 (54:05):
Those Sombres mesical. Okay, we're gonna Donald, We're gonna do research.
What kind of booze don't have to be something we
both like?
Speaker 3 (54:12):
Well, what do you like?
Speaker 1 (54:15):
I like to kill it? Like vodka? Do you like
a Moscow mule? Do you like Moscow mules?
Speaker 3 (54:20):
But that's not a liquor that's I know.
Speaker 1 (54:22):
But what if we did like a canned, pre made,
badass moscow mule called a day of Shoe.
Speaker 3 (54:30):
I like the name.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
And me not the jingle. Ready to go, But you're
trying to.
Speaker 3 (54:38):
Get in into what? Yes, what you're trying to get
into shoon?
Speaker 1 (54:46):
Yeah? And then the commercial it's you taking a big sip.
Speaker 3 (54:48):
Of it.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
Ado shoon something that's the name of the booze to
get into.
Speaker 3 (54:58):
And then the person goes.
Speaker 1 (55:01):
Oh, that's the commercial. No, it's you and I walking
up to people and they're drinking it what you're trying
to get into, and they go, oh my god, I
love it. The problem is, if we spelled it correctly, people.
Speaker 2 (55:14):
They might also pronounce it other people with my name
would be like, it's named after me.
Speaker 1 (55:19):
Have you never run into another idea shoe?
Speaker 3 (55:20):
So's it's a Nigerian name? I know.
Speaker 1 (55:22):
So is it popular in Nigeria?
Speaker 2 (55:26):
Yeah, I'm sure there are people. I think it's a
last name. Though I'm not only going.
Speaker 1 (55:31):
To be confusing when it's when it's so popular that
it's eventually sold in Nigeria. But let's start small.
Speaker 2 (55:36):
What you're trying to get into.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
Don't forget to pull a little ruckus on it. If
you're singing this at home and you don't pull a
little spice on it, you're doing it wrong.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
Throw some strusy on it as they're trying to get
into the shoe.
Speaker 1 (55:57):
Put a little nasty on it. Sprinkle some nasty on it.
Speaker 3 (56:02):
Yo.
Speaker 2 (56:02):
The fact that these guys put rowdy in front of
this dude's house fourteen times.
Speaker 1 (56:07):
Yeah, what a dick? What dick's We are not even
a kind of nighbor you hate that. By the way,
John Michelle his acting was okay, but when he eventually
had to laugh, he was a little stiff.
Speaker 3 (56:20):
You know.
Speaker 2 (56:20):
John Michelle not only edited the show, he also directed
the show.
Speaker 1 (56:25):
This not this episode, No, eventually he directed, but.
Speaker 3 (56:27):
He would eventually direct.
Speaker 2 (56:29):
And I remember I remember as an editor, I guess
you want every I guess you want everything you could
possibly get to put it together, because not only would
he direct the episodes, but he would edit them.
Speaker 3 (56:41):
And I remember we would.
Speaker 2 (56:42):
Do a bunch of takes for him because he was like,
I just wanted if I could have it this way, great,
if I could have it this way, it's just more
things for me to look at.
Speaker 1 (56:53):
As classic editor turned director. And I think it was
his first shot at directing. So yeah, if you're gonna
if you were to build a stereotypical problem that an
editor turning director might have in the beginning of their career,
it would be I need every single angle, I need
every single take I need. But then you know I'm
sure that.
Speaker 2 (57:12):
But his episode always they always turned out great. Though
he always had good episodes.
Speaker 1 (57:16):
Well we were there, it'll four in the morning, getting
every angle. So why is it the pathologists in TV
shows are always eating I don't know. Pologists are the
guys who do the autopsies. Why are they always eating
a sandwich? It's a thing, It's a it's a trope.
Speaker 3 (57:31):
I think.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
I think it's because they they're around death so much
that even the smell of it can't interrupt their day.
So like, if it's lunch time, I could eat lunch
around a dead body because I'm around it all the time.
Speaker 1 (57:47):
Right. The point is is that the writer is trying
to show how how used to death and corpses this
person is. They're so used to it and so so
they so don't care about it that they'll eat their
sandwich over the guy's head. But I'm just saying, it's
it's been done to death. Yeah. I love Fleabag.
Speaker 5 (58:06):
There is a scene in there where they talk about this, right,
like they're going to see the pathologist and she's like,
I can't remember if it's the smell of chemicals or
something that makes them like crave meat.
Speaker 3 (58:17):
There's like a whole.
Speaker 5 (58:18):
Scene in Fleabag about this and I'm trying to let
me try to find the science on it, because it
was the craziest thing.
Speaker 1 (58:23):
Okay, but that's interesting, But that's something else. What I'm
saying is that that the it's as common and ridiculous
in films and TV as like they remove the rear
view mirror in the car so you can have a
better angle and not have it break up the frame,
which is like just a convention that people get used to,
but it's stupid. Or that all the streets are always
(58:46):
wet at night because it makes the lights look pretty,
But the cars aren't wet, and the buildings aren't wet,
just the streets wet. And in line with that, a
pathologist doing an autopsy will usually have a bite of
some food.
Speaker 3 (58:59):
Right, that's you know.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
And speaking of speaking of go to jokes, I started
to realize a pattern.
Speaker 1 (59:05):
Laverne always talking about Jesus.
Speaker 3 (59:07):
Always talking about Jesus.
Speaker 1 (59:09):
But it's funny every time.
Speaker 2 (59:10):
It's funny every time, but it's always the same setup. Oh,
don't worry about what I think, but you're gonna have
to worry about what Jesus thinks.
Speaker 1 (59:18):
I know, but it's her what you're talking about, willis.
It's funny, it is what You don't have to explain
yourself to me, but you better get your story straight,
when you come face. When you come face, she goes,
when you come face to face with Jesus. Yeah, that's
why I laughed out loud at that.
Speaker 3 (59:31):
Yeah. Absolutely, But it's a go to jokes. She's great,
she's great.
Speaker 1 (59:35):
Has he that's her that's her thing. She talks about Jesus.
Ted's office he has a plow Mak's mug, which I liked,
just continuing the Plomok's runner.
Speaker 2 (59:44):
I was very happy to see Sam Lloyd in this episode.
When he popped up, I got very excited about that.
Speaker 1 (59:50):
I know all those scenes in Ted's office were always
so funny.
Speaker 2 (59:54):
And the one, the one with him and Sarah where
he's like, oh my god, you're getting sued.
Speaker 3 (59:59):
Have you confronted?
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Have you gone back and spoke to and she goes, well,
and he goes, oh did you did you threaten him?
Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
He goes.
Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
Even and she goes, He goes, oh, man, even a
good lawyer couldn't win this case. Every scene in that office, uh,
is so funny. I think we learned for the first
time that his last name is Buckland. I'm assuming that's
for one of our favorite directors at the time, Mark Buckland,
and well where else would you get Buckland from It's
(01:00:31):
not a No, it's not Buckland is.
Speaker 3 (01:00:33):
Not seems like a common name. No, Dan, what's your
last name?
Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
Do you want to ask Dan?
Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
What's your last name?
Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
Good Man? Good Man? You know his last name.
Speaker 3 (01:00:44):
It's on the zoom call It's Goodman, It's Goodman.
Speaker 1 (01:00:47):
Sounds I think it was going to be Do you
think it was going to be Buckland? It sounds like
would that Cox calls me murder, she wrote, which is
funny because I accidentally killed a patient. Right, Oh, I
it's hard When Kelso says to Sarah, he goes, you
had four years of college and four years of med school,
(01:01:08):
so I can safely assume that you were at least eight.
Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
He was great in this Episodeken Jenkins always great.
Speaker 12 (01:01:24):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
I noticed that you have really baggy cargo pants on.
Do you remember when that was the style? And we
both used to wear those a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
Okay, I'm going to tell you something. This is when
I started, you know, gaining weight on the show.
Speaker 1 (01:01:34):
So hiding your stomach.
Speaker 3 (01:01:37):
Well I'm not.
Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
Necessarily hiding my stomach, but I'm hiding. Uh, you know,
the clothes started to change for me. So now I'm
no longer wearing the jeans that they had for me
because my waist had grown so much. I'm now wearing
baggy clothes. So this is one episode where they hadn't
gone shop at least that's what I think. They hadn't
gone shopping for me yesterday, because I remember Carrie asking
(01:01:59):
me about wearing the pants. She was like, you know,
will you wear these instead today or something like that,
And it was because my ass was getting bigger.
Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
Your ass are your belly.
Speaker 3 (01:02:12):
My booty?
Speaker 1 (01:02:13):
So they they had to go shopping to get bigger
clothes for you, but they hadn't gone yet, so they said, here,
how about these baggy sweatpants.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
Yes, this is around the time where I heard Sarah
talking about a fan asking if I was on the
Krispy Kream diet.
Speaker 3 (01:02:33):
It's funny to you, it's not to me.
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
I'm sorry. It didn't really hurt your feelings.
Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
Yeah, it hurt my feelings.
Speaker 1 (01:02:40):
Okay, it did it hurt your feelings enough that you
took action and changed your habits?
Speaker 3 (01:02:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
Actually, the next season, if you notice, the next season
when we come back, I'm a lot skinnier in season three.
Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
Now, are you gonna progressively get larger throughout this season.
I'll keep an eye out for I think your lisp
is on. By the way, I think the.
Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
It's gone in this episode we cut them off finally,
you know what I believe. So I believe we're gonna
go through this season and I will get heavier. This
is also around the time where I am about to
get a divorce.
Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
From so maybe that was tied the late game, might
have been tied to the stress of your divorce.
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
Perhaps maybe you know it's it's it's brewing at this point.
At this point, I remember being like, oh man, you know, uh,
this isn't going well. I think though, you know, you
can always meet you always can tell when you meet
somebody who's never been divorced or never you know what
I mean, because the first thing they say is, oh,
I'm so sorry. You meet somebody who's been divorced, they're
(01:03:39):
always gonna say. You'll be like, I'm so sorry, and
they'd be like, no, no, no, I got out of that.
Speaker 3 (01:03:42):
It's all good.
Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
Don't trip well, not always, donal. I think that's that's
that's not true.
Speaker 2 (01:03:47):
Very few times, there are very few times while going
through it.
Speaker 3 (01:03:50):
Yes, while going through it.
Speaker 2 (01:03:51):
It's very sad because you're remembering all the things that
you used to do, and you're remembering, you know, and
and and and and you're moving forward. And whenever you're
moving forward and things aren't, you know, like they were
in the past, it's there's change. You know, it's a
little uncomfortable for you. But when you're out of it,
(01:04:12):
just so happy to be out of.
Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
As a great line in Annie Hall where Woody Allen
says to Diane Keaton, you know, I think relationships are
like sharks. If you stop moving forward, you die. And
I think what we have here is a dead shark.
(01:04:36):
So you had a dead shark.
Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
It didn't work out. It didn't work out, but guess what.
Speaker 1 (01:04:41):
And if you're listening and going through a divorce now
Donald ended up with the love of his life. The
man has never been happier, never been more in love,
and talk about a blessing in disguise. It worked out.
Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
Well, you know, it's when you're not looking for it
that it works out that way.
Speaker 3 (01:05:00):
You know, well, you were.
Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
Looking for it. You hit on her in the club
and she said done. He had like nine keels.
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
But I was just trying to beat I wasn't trying
to day.
Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
You're just trying to beat What does that mean? You
were trying to You were just trying to have intercourse?
Do you remember right them? Do you remember the fact
that Joel's trying right now?
Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
The fact? Well, because come on, man, you knew exactly
what the fuck I meant. It just was something. It
was I said it different, and you were like, wait this,
hold on.
Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
All right, we have a guest, right Joe. We never
took a break. I'm sorry. Daniel, You're gonna have to
put in fake breaks.
Speaker 3 (01:05:31):
He does it all the time.
Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
Let's go to break, guys, Rob.
Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
I got a new intro. Rob, I'm no longer doing Oprah.
I'm now doing I'm now doing Kermit the funk. Give
it up for Rob.
Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
Hi'm Bob. Bye, it's nice to meet you. I'm Zach.
That's Donald, that's Daniel, that's Joelle.
Speaker 13 (01:05:57):
Hello, everyone, this is why, thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
How are you welcome?
Speaker 1 (01:06:01):
Welcome?
Speaker 13 (01:06:02):
I'm doing great, that buddy.
Speaker 1 (01:06:05):
We're great. Where are you calling from, Bob?
Speaker 13 (01:06:07):
I am in northern Virginia outside, Yes.
Speaker 3 (01:06:12):
We see Williams. Remember the Titans Virginia.
Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
That's right, Yeah, circle back to of course. Well everyone
everyone who has Everyone who has a Bingo card was like,
I can't believe Titans hasn't come up there. It is
from a Bingo card.
Speaker 14 (01:06:27):
Well, I want to mention Garden State too. My wife
is from New Jersey. When we when we met, she
told me she was from Jersey and she said, do
not say Jersey Shore. I'm from near Garden State.
Speaker 1 (01:06:41):
That's what it looked like, right, Well, I agree with
your wife. A lot of you know, when the Jersey
short came out, a lot of US Jersey ins were like,
first of all, none of those people are from New Jersey.
They were from like Staten Island and other places. And
and of course there is a sections of the beach
in New Jersey where a lot of Jersey Shore type
folks hung gate, but that is only one section of
(01:07:03):
the beach. I just thought it was like the worst
uh press for Jersey. And so when I made Garden State,
I didn't do it with this intention in mind, but I,
like your wife, I wanted to say to people like, hey,
Jersey's actually really beautiful. It's literally called the Garden State.
So the other thing that happens is people fly in
a Newark airport. It's a very big international Airportyeah, that's
(01:07:25):
in our industrial area. So people fly in Newark and
they look at all the industry and they're like, oh,
fucking Jerseys grows. Meanwhile, it's like every fucking state has
a big industrial area. How do you think it put
your airport there.
Speaker 2 (01:07:37):
When I was shooting emergency shot on the shore where
you know, all of those things happened, and we shot
in an off season in the winter, that town is
dead in the winter. It's not until summer that it
goes off.
Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
Yeah, it's really interesting actually when it's actually it's the
I set my play only people there because I went
when you when you go to choose a show, if
you're going to rent a house for the summer in
Jersey at the beach. Nowadays, I'm sure it's all online,
but back in the day when I was a kid,
used to go down there and it with the beach
would be covered in snow and there's a ghost town.
There be nobody there. But that's when you go, like,
(01:08:11):
look at the house that you might rent for the summer.
And I always thought it was really eerie and spooky
because there were only like a handful of people that
lived down there, and but it was the beach and
it was just like a ghost that looked like a
bomb and going off and there was just no one there.
And uh, and so I set this play that I wrote.
I sat like down there in the winter. But anyway, sorry, Bob,
we digressed again. What's your question for us? Sir?
Speaker 14 (01:08:33):
I love Scrubs, but both Zach and Donald, you guys
have been on the best television show of all time,
Sesame Street. Oh about being on Sesame Street. I got
a four year old and a seven year old.
Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
Yeah, I loved it.
Speaker 3 (01:08:53):
I cut my teeth on Sesame Street.
Speaker 1 (01:08:56):
Go ahead, Yeah you were on. You were on when
you were a child.
Speaker 3 (01:08:59):
I was on, not as a child, but so.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Before clueless, before all of those things, I was a
New York actor. And in New York, you know, it
was for actors at the time. If you weren't living
in Los Angeles and you were living in any city
that you know, did commercials or had a production in town,
(01:09:24):
it was like it felt like the trenches, you know
what I mean. So if you're not doing play in
New York City, if you're not doing plays, you know,
you're most likely auditioning for auditioning for commercials, and it
felt like at the time, every commercial came out of
New York City, and you know, there were only you know,
there were shows there, like The Cosby Show, was there,
(01:09:45):
NYPD Blue, New York Undercover, but there weren't a lot
of them, and so you would be going up for
these local shows against all your friends, people you knew,
and it just really felt like you were in the trenches,
like you were fighting for one job with thousands and
thousands and thousands of people, where As when you come
(01:10:05):
to LA, it seemed it seemed like there was a job.
You know, the way they talked about LA when you
lived in New York was there's a job they grow
on trees out in LA. And so Sesame Street was
one of those shows that it was like, you know,
they're looking for a new character, they're looking for new
(01:10:26):
characters on Sesame Street, and everybody and their mama went
out for Sesame Street. I wound up getting it with
Eugene Bird, who's on He's in a bunch of movie.
He was in what was the eminem movie eight Mile,
He's in a He's in a Mile. He's the one
that steals Britney Murphy from Marshall Mathers in the movie
(01:10:51):
Anyway We Got We Got Sesame Street, and it was
he was already on it. And then he had a
group of friends that he would bring on to help him, like.
Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
He was a handyman.
Speaker 2 (01:11:04):
And something happened where the other guys Eugene left and
the other guys, I guess Sesame Street didn't like or
you know, did something that I don't know what it was,
but they kept me around for a bit and I
got to, you know, hang out and do I did
like something like six or seven episodes of Sesame Street.
Speaker 1 (01:11:23):
I'm gonna have to you.
Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
I grew up with Savion Glover.
Speaker 2 (01:11:26):
I've known him since I was a kid, and he
was on Sesame Street at the time. So it was
just kind of cool to see somebody who was very
successful in life.
Speaker 1 (01:11:36):
Was he a famous tap dancer?
Speaker 3 (01:11:37):
He was already a fair was he was already famous.
Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
He hadn't done Bring the Noise, Bringing the Funk yet,
but he had already done like the movie Tap. He
had already been huge, and so it was like, holy cow,
I'm doing scenes with Savion and it felt if you know,
I'm legit, you know, I remember when I came out
to LA and I had this like big audition and
I walked in and it was all of these famous
actors like Dante Bosco who was in Hook, he played
(01:12:04):
Ruffeo and Hook, and you know, like a shit ton
of the cast from Saved by the Bell, you know,
and other things. And I hadn't I didn't have anything
on my resume at the time, like you know, Clueless
hadn't come out, and they were all talking about what
they had worked on, and I was off in the
(01:12:25):
corner and I wanted to be a part of it
so bad. I walked in between them all and I
was like, yo, well you know, I was on Sesame
Street and stuff. And I could see in their faces
they're like Sesame Street. But I was so confident because
of you know, what Sesame Street meant to me growing up,
as it probably will to your four year old.
Speaker 1 (01:12:46):
I did it relatively recently. I was on with Telly
I Believe, and I did a thing about explaining the
word anxious to children. And it's really funny. If you
get a chance, go look on YouTube and just put
in my name Sesame Street anxious. It comes up. But
(01:13:07):
it's funny there was a whole bit where we were
both worried. Telly and I were both worried about what
was in this box, and we were using that as
a as a means of trying to describe to kids
the word anxious. And I'm like, oh, now I'm anxious
and tell He's like, I'm anxious too, and I and
then all of a sudden, I go, what's in the box,
what's in the bar? What's in the box? I got
(01:13:27):
like a whole seven reference into.
Speaker 3 (01:13:29):
You and Brad Pitt. You and Brad Pitt.
Speaker 1 (01:13:31):
I went Brad Pitt seven.
Speaker 3 (01:13:33):
So now let's talk about this again.
Speaker 1 (01:13:35):
I like his work. I'm not trying to dock him.
Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
Dude, You're totally trying to dock Brad Pitt.
Speaker 1 (01:13:39):
Because I like seven. I'm not trying to dock Brad.
Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
You see, this is what I'm talking about. I said,
I like Leo, and I'm trying to dock Leo.
Speaker 3 (01:13:47):
You like Brad? If I like Leo and I'm trying
to dock if that's.
Speaker 1 (01:13:50):
What that one's a right, Neither one of us are
trying to dock.
Speaker 3 (01:13:54):
Okay, we thank you, clear love.
Speaker 1 (01:13:56):
I do love the movie seven a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
That's not all you love you Love five Club.
Speaker 1 (01:14:01):
Yeah, well Brad's a great actor.
Speaker 3 (01:14:02):
Yeah, so's Leo.
Speaker 1 (01:14:04):
Oh my god, Bob, thank you. Do you have another question?
Speaker 14 (01:14:08):
Yeah, I'm a I'm a seventh grade teacher here in Virginia.
Cool and I just want to know if you guys
had a story about your favorite teacher.
Speaker 1 (01:14:19):
We love, we love.
Speaker 14 (01:14:20):
Hearing from my students, and uh, you know, we love
when they reach out to us.
Speaker 13 (01:14:25):
I don't always remember them.
Speaker 14 (01:14:26):
I got a lot of students come through my classroom,
but I love it when they when they contact us.
Speaker 13 (01:14:30):
So I wonder if you guys had a how do
they impact you?
Speaker 5 (01:14:33):
What?
Speaker 13 (01:14:34):
What?
Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
So many? So many?
Speaker 3 (01:14:37):
I have so many too.
Speaker 2 (01:14:38):
But there's one teacher that I had that was so awesome.
And his name was mister Hurt and he was a
history teacher.
Speaker 13 (01:14:45):
As am I and uh and you.
Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
Know I had him in high school my senior year,
and I thought we had like a vibe, like because
I was a good student. I you know, history was
a lot of fun for me. I'd liked to study history,
and you know he was one of those cats that
you know, when Black History Month came around, we could
(01:15:12):
talk about we would talk about black history for the
whole month, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:15:16):
And he was an awesome history teacher.
Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
I never did homework in the class, though, you know
what I mean, Like I would always do I would
always ace my tests, like literally get nineties on tests,
one hundreds on tests.
Speaker 3 (01:15:38):
But I never did homework.
Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
It's my senior year, and I'm thinking, well, I'm gonna,
definitely I'm gonna. I don't need to worry about history
because that's my favorite subject and I'm crushing it in history.
I remember having to go to other teachers and be
like and beg for just a sixty so I could graduate, right,
I didn't worry about history. I pass every class in
(01:16:03):
my senior year. Now, granted, I had messed around throughout
high school. I had gotten left back, I went to
summer school, and then you know, in my junior year,
I went to summer school so I could graduate on time.
I had done all of these things to make it
so that I graduated when I was supposed to graduate,
and begged all my teachers to give me. Look, I
(01:16:26):
know I'm not passing. I know I got like a
fifty nine right now, But if you could just figure
out a way to just turn that fifty nine into
a sixty.
Speaker 3 (01:16:34):
Help a brother.
Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
The one class that I didn't worry about, mister Hurt
gives me a fifty nine instead of a sixty, and
I had to go to summer school to get my diploma.
Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
He taught you a lesson, though, he.
Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
Did teach me a lesson.
Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
And then so one day he hits me up on
Facebook like, Donald, I'm so proud of you.
Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
I'm wanna be honest with you.
Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
I always knew you'd be where you are today. You
had such charisma in high school whatever it is now.
I went to high school with a bunch of actors
and entertainers and everything, and so it meant a lot
for me to hear that.
Speaker 3 (01:17:05):
But then I remembered, motherfucker, you' the one.
Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
That gave me a fifty nine instead of a sixty
and I had to go to summer school. And I
remember telling him that. He was like I did that.
He was like, ah, whatever, man, but I'm so proud
of you. So listen to Hurt, my favorite teacher all time.
Speaker 1 (01:17:23):
Well, I just want to say, there's a lot, Bob.
I have a lot of fond memories of certain teachers.
And there was a TV teacher at my high school
that really got me into like working and we had
like a little TV station and I love that. And
mister Mullen, he was so supportive of my I'd make
these little short films and I think he could really
(01:17:46):
tell that I was passionate about it. And I remember
earlier there was an English teacher near Miss Petrolia who
for the first time, was introducing us to poetry, and
I really really responded to you know, at the time,
we thought, oh, we have to memorize these Robert Frost's
poems and stuff. And I remember thinking like, this is
so stupid, But I grew to really love poetry and ultimately,
(01:18:08):
in college got into Shakespeare. And so I have a
lot of fond memories of teachers. And so I'm sure
other students have told you this before, but you guys
make such a difference in people's lives, particularly if you're
a good teacher, because you know, some of us have
memories of teachers that we weren't effective or we felt
(01:18:30):
were condescending. But the ones I really remember are ones
that were just so pure and honest about it. They
really were excited about what they were teaching, and that
and that landed in us. That was transferred because we
I mean this, this woman was patrolling. That got me
excited about poetry. She got me excited about reading literature,
and her passion came through.
Speaker 2 (01:18:51):
You know, dude, I totally understand what you're saying when
you say stuff like that, Like I had one teacher
and it was just my guidance counselor now you know.
I knew in high school that I didn't want to
go to college and I wanted to go to I
wanted to move to Los Angeles immediately after high school
and become an actor. And he was like, dude, you
(01:19:12):
got to apply for colleges and stuff. And I was like,
I'm not going to do it. He was like, all right,
fine whatever, and I got in. I went and I
auditioned for Rutgers University. My mom went to Rutgers University
and I got in, and he was so excited for me,
and he sat me down. He was like, dude, I
don't know how you like literally, this is what.
Speaker 3 (01:19:30):
He said to me.
Speaker 2 (01:19:31):
I don't know how you did it, but you got
into Rutgers, man, you did it.
Speaker 3 (01:19:35):
You got into Rutgers. Now. I remember looking at.
Speaker 2 (01:19:38):
Him and saying, yeah, you know, I'm college isn't for me.
I'm not going to go to college. I'm I'm gonna
give this acting thing a shot. And I could see
the disappointment in his face, like you're throwing away your future, kid,
And it always, it always sticks with me. That always
sticks with me that he cared so much about what
(01:19:59):
was gonna happen to me after I left that school.
He wasn't like, listen, I get that you I get
that you want he was. He was like, I get
that you want to be famous. I get all of that,
but dude, you have a you have a shot that
Rutgers is a very good school.
Speaker 3 (01:20:14):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:20:15):
This is something that a lot of people would kill for,
and somehow you convinced them that you're Rutger's material.
Speaker 3 (01:20:23):
I can't believe you're not gonna do it.
Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
And that's always stuck with me, Like he cared so
much about my future that he was willing to protest
pretty much.
Speaker 3 (01:20:32):
