Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, look who it is.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Hi. Hey. Shalom Aleichem. He's ready this time. He's ready
this time.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
I am officially ready. I got a little white.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Oh, pour me a little. I got a little cold
white today, too.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
It's a little cold duck.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
I'm really liking the new hairstyle, I have to say.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Thank you. I'm drinking this duck horn, man. Do you
like duck horn?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Uh, no, I, I, I don't know what that is.
What is that? Chardonnay? I don't fuck with Chardonnay.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
No, it's a Sauvignon Blanc.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Oh, Sauvignon Blanc.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
I like a nice Sancerre, which I believe is a
Sauvignon Blanc grape. I don't even, I think. Oh, how
are you, man? What's going on? This hairstyle is really
working for me.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
I like that you like it. I love that.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
I'm going to have to change the avatar I made
for you because he doesn't have this hairstyle.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
I know, and the beards that they have for avatars
on the Apple iPhone isn't necessarily the dopest beard.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
They're not really that good looking.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Oh, Dan's nodding because Dan is a fellow beard owner.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
You agree, right?

Speaker 5 (01:01):
They don't represent correctly.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
It's like, eh. Yeah, no, they don't. And also, I
just started following Joelle on Instagram.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Oh, really? We've been having a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
She's got some spicy pictures.

Speaker 6 (01:14):
Don't tell the people.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Mom, stop listening to the podcast right now.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Joelle, are you like provocative?

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Sometimes a little bit.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
Joelle knows how to find the right colors that suit
her selfies.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
You know what I mean? And then she finds the
right poses. I follow Joelle on Twitter.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
I'm learning a lot. I'm learning a lot about Joelle.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Joelle and I, I started following Joelle because Bobby Moynihan
yesterday hit me up with something. And first of all, Joelle,
if we do do this Star Wars podcast, he should
be one of the hosts with us because his knowledge
of Star Wars is amazing.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Anyway, my point is- You know who else could be
on it? As I understand it, Patton Oswalt is also
on the level of you guys, right?

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 7 (02:02):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Absolutely. Team made.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
We could make a really dope team and it would be-
It would be a dope podcast because we'd have legit
people who are legitimately into the show.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Anyway, into the movie. Into the universe.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Anyway, so Bobby Moynihan sends me a picture and it's
got all of these pilots in it.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Like Luke Skywalker, Harrison Doola. Yeah, Lando's on there too.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Lando, Chewbacca. I'm going to look at it real quick.
Some of these people I'm like, who cares? But Poe Dameron,
Bodhi from Rogue One.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Porkins.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
The list is pretty good. And Wedge Antilles, Han Solo.
And the list is, choose your squadron, but you can
only pick four characters. And this was the hardest thing
I'd ever had to do. And then I hit up Joelle,
and I'm like, Joelle, four characters, that's all you can choose.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
And she throws them out so easily. She's first like,
oh wow, this is hard. And then she's like, who
did you say? Hera?

Speaker 8 (03:08):
Wedge?

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, Luke.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
No, you didn't say Luke. You said you didn't want
to pick. I thought initially, wait, no, you're right.

Speaker 7 (03:16):
I didn't say Luke.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
I don't remember.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
But I did say Anakin because I like Anakin and
he's a great fighter.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
He was the best pilot in the galaxy period. So
it made sense to say Anakin. He's not even on
the list, but he should have been because that's who
I would have picked.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
My point is, this was one of the hardest choices
I ever had to make when it came to Star Wars.
And Bobby Moynihan- his at is on Instagram is Bibi Moynihan.
And I chose Lando, Wedge, Luke Skywalker, and I said
Han Solo and Chewbacca are a combination.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
But then I was like, yo, you know what? I'm
going to take those two off and put Hera Syndulla.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Hera's the greatest. So that was a quick teaser for
you guys who are interested in a Star Wars podcast
that will soon be coming to you From my heart.
This is not said podcast. This is a podcast about
fake doctors who are actually real friends.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
Yeah, but I just wanted to throw that out there
real quick because as a friend, I know you know
how important Star Wars is to me. And if I
have some Star Wars trivia or knowledge or a puzzle
that you would always allow me to talk Star Wars
because you know how it's important to me.

Speaker 6 (04:34):
It is.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
It is very important to my friend, and I love
you very much. Welcome all of our listeners. Hi, everybody.
Thank you for listening. Thank you for all your amazing
feedback on our Instagram and Twitter. Donald and I love
hearing from you guys and love hearing what you have
to say. I saw someone today regarding Tuesday's show said, oh,

(04:55):
my God, this podcast is getting dirty. Because we got
into both. We got into the WAP video analysis. We
got into manscaping. So hopefully we didn't upset too many listeners.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
I think I should clear something up, too, though. I
did not take my junk out at the club.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Just your pubes?

Speaker 1 (05:16):
I just showed the pubes.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Just to be clear.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
When I heard the story, I didn't remember the story.
But when I heard it, I just assumed you came
down to just above the eel.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Yeah, right before the black whale makes, would make an appearance.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Right.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
We cut it there.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yeah, you just brought it down to show what was happening. But,
you know, I think it's important. I felt like we
did an important public service announcement because I feel like
there's people out there who don't know and they need
someone to tell them. And that's why we're here as
Fake Doctors Real Friends.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
Yeah, we also created a new segment called Let's Fix
Your Life.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Yeah, that was fun. I think that's going to go
well today. Joelle, we're going to do that again with
today's caller.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Okay, great. I will give them a heads up. And also,
just a quick heads up for you guys.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
We have Shea Serrano on the podcast today.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Wow, really? The best guest we ever had.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
We're really excited about it.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Donald, is your sweatshirt designed to look like it has
stains on it?

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Yeah, it's tie-dye. It's a gray and white tie-dye.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Oh, it's a gray and white tie-dye. Over the Zoom,
it looks like it was artistically designed to look stained.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Well, no.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
And I thought it was a nice choice. I thought
it was handsome.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
It's by Nike. Ooh.

Speaker 7 (06:42):
Ooh.

Speaker 9 (06:44):
Do you like Nike?

Speaker 2 (06:46):
You know I love Nike. Look at these bad boys
I just got.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Fire. Wow, those are fire.

Speaker 7 (06:52):
Those are mega fire.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Wow, those are dope, dude.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
One thing I don't recommend doing, you guys, is putting
your credit card information into the Nike app. Because the
second you do that, and I did that with a
few drinks in me, you then don't really ever think
like you're really buying anything. It knows your size and
it has your credit card info. So you could be
like up late looking at Nike.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
It's like when you go to Vegas.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Exactly. You know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (07:23):
When you go to Vegas, and those chips look like
they're little candy, and you just toss them on the table.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
The next thing you know, you don't have a home anymore.
Just putting it out there. Anyway, Shea Serrano is with
us today.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
So without further ado, we should get into the show
with a little bit of a 5.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
6, 7, 8... About a bunch of docs and nurses
and a janitor who loved to hate.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
I said he's got stories that we all should know.

Speaker 10 (08:00):
So gather round to hear our, gather round to hear
our Scrubs Rewatch Show with Zach and Dono.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Hey now, ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Shea Serrano.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Turn your keys on for thunderous applause for Shea.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
He turned, sir.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Shea, we've had a lot of people on this podcast
since we had you, and I think you're by far
everyone's favorite guest.

Speaker 7 (08:33):
I'm a solid 15th place finisher.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
I know. People love you, dude. When we hung up
with you, Donald was like, oh, my God. He was perfect.
He was such a good guest.

Speaker 7 (08:46):
Oh, you know.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
That's because we talked about fucking basketball for 30 minutes.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
And it's back. Holy shit. And it's back.

Speaker 7 (08:53):
We finally got back together.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 7 (08:55):
Did you watch Dame?

Speaker 1 (08:56):
I was about to ask you that right just now. Dude,
Dame dollar, Dame time. Let's go.

Speaker 7 (09:03):
What a fucking champion.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Dude, he's playing like one right now. That whole team
looks good. Him, Nerdchick, freaking Mello.

Speaker 7 (09:13):
Oh, Mello has been great.

Speaker 6 (09:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
The crazy thing is CJ got a broken back and
he's destroying right now.

Speaker 7 (09:19):
I don't understand.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
I don't understand.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
I was going to ask y'all.

Speaker 7 (09:23):
How you can break your back and get better at basketball.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Right. He's doing a little too much dribbling for me.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
He's doing a little too much James Harden when he
gets the ball up top.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
Well, you got to dribble, Donald. When you walk, when
you move, you got to dribble. No doubt. And if
you don't, you get what's called traveling, and the referee
goes like this.

Speaker 9 (09:40):
Right.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
No doubt.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
But he's dribbling at a point where it makes the
offense kind of just stand still and watch.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
And sometimes he makes it.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
Like the beautiful thing about Portland, and I can't believe
I'm saying this because I am not a Trailblazers fan,
but I am a Mellow.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
I am a Dame. I am a CJ.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
And i am a you're a blazers fan because that's
the starting lineup right.

Speaker 4 (10:01):
Let me ask you guys let me finish hold on
let me finish the thing about that is though they're
a great one-on-one team one-on-one each one of those guys
will give you the business yeah it's amazing to me
that their team ball is in such good shape right now.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
You know what I mean? Melo has saved them several times,
and it's the same play. It's the same play. From
the top to the corner, splash three. Same time.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
I love it.

Speaker 8 (10:32):
Dame time.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Dame time from half court. Dame time.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Let me ask you guys something because I saw some
of this basketball on TV and I was just taking
in the whole thing with the fans, the projected fans.
You can spend money and be a fake fan in
the stands, right?

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Not a fake fan.

Speaker 5 (10:50):
You don't even have to pay for it. You just apply.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
It's like fill out a little form and then they
pick you out of that.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
Oh, I want to do that. Donald, we should do that.

Speaker 7 (10:58):
You could 100% make that happen.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Yeah, let's make that happen.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
I want to make that happen. And I wanted to know,
as hardcore basketball fans like you guys, if, you know,
obviously it's weird, you know, this whole bubble thing, but
if you thought the games were noticeably different, are the
scores higher or lower? Like, what's different without the fans?

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Shay, you want to take this?

Speaker 3 (11:23):
The presentation for the games has been outstanding.

Speaker 7 (11:25):
It does not feel.
Any different to me.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
If anything, everything feels a little more heightened because you know,
they're all stuck there. Like, I don't know if you
play like AAU basketball or like any sort of tournament
basketball when you show up at one location and all
of the teams are there just sort of wandering around
and it becomes like, like a very tribal sort of experience.

Speaker 7 (11:44):
You're like with your team and only your team and
like we're enemies with those. It's been, it's been so
much fun to watch. I've been really, really impressed.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
Yeah, not only that, what I really enjoy is that
there's no such thing as home court advantage now.

Speaker 7 (11:57):
Yeah, that's crazy.

Speaker 6 (11:58):
Right?

Speaker 1 (11:59):
I love that.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
I love the fact that everybody's playing on neutral ground.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
Sorry, again, I'm the voice of people that don't follow
sports at all. So a team with a diehard fan
base would genuinely have an advantage, right? Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
They're loud.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
They're loud, they're rooting you on, and so you're feeling
that energy while you're playing. Like, I remember I played
in this thing called the, I talk about this all
the time, I played in this thing called the NBA
Entertainment League, and we made it to the conference finals
one year. And, you know, it's a neutral, it was
pretty much played on the same court. And the only
time you would have, you know, fans there was when

(12:36):
you bought your family. So if I bought my girlfriend...
At the time, she would be cheering for me. So
in the conference finals, we played against Jamie Foxx's team, right?

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
And Jamie, being the genius that he is, he was like,
let's pack the stands with nothing.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
But our friends.

Speaker 7 (12:57):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (12:58):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
And so, you know, it seems like it's a regular game.
I look up into the stands, I'm like, wow, it's
packed in here today, but that's normal.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
You know, it's two... high profile teams in the league
playing against each other where, you know, my team had
a bunch of celebrities on it. Jamie Foxx was on
the other team. You know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (13:17):
And so it was like, okay, I get it. People
want to see us ball. And we come out and
we're doing warmups and everything like that. And then the
game starts. And it's clear that everybody's there for Jamie's team.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Like everybody's there.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
And so the first couple of plays, I come down,
I pop a three, right? The next play, I come down,
I pop another three and everybody in the crowd's like, oh,
it's kind of silent.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
And I'm screaming at my team, let's go. And then
Jamie's team starts to score. And they're freaking cheering for them.
And then they're chanting, here we go Spurs. Let's go Spurs.
And I'm like, what the fuck is going on here?

Speaker 3 (14:02):
And I looked up and there was a girl.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
You were toast.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
I knew we were toast because I looked up into
the stands and there was a girl that I.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
Used to date.

Speaker 4 (14:10):
And she was in the stands rooting for Jamie Foxx's team.
And when she saw me look at her, I looked
at her like, what the fuck are you doing? She
shrugged like, sorry.

Speaker 7 (14:19):
That's excellent. One of my favorite things about any time
you talk.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
To somebody about basketball who plays basketball, and inevitably they
would tell you a story about a game they played at.
As soon as they start talking, they do what Donald
just did with the– like.

Speaker 7 (14:34):
We mimicked the dribbling.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
They start doing this every time.

Speaker 7 (14:37):
It's my favorite thing.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
The shoulder shake.

Speaker 10 (14:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
Everybody got a little bit of dream in them. Everybody
got a little Akeem the dream in them.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
That's how you know the story is about to get good,
when they do that move right there. Okay.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Are they filming the games any differently? I thought Bill
Lawrence said something to me about they're doing some experimental
way of shooting it to make it more exciting, or
am I wrong?

Speaker 5 (15:00):
Go ahead.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
They brought back this camera view that they had at
the All-Star game about 15 or 18 years ago, where
it's basically court level, and it moves back and forth,
and you can watch it that way.

Speaker 7 (15:12):
So they show that one every once in a while.
But generally... Oh, it looks the same.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
It feels the same. It's really, really well done. So
this sport, as far as team sports, it seems like,
am I right that the NBA has handled this the best?

Speaker 1 (15:25):
As far as COVID goes, absolutely.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Baseball shut down fucking two days in or whatever. Turns
out this is a bad idea.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Let's be honest. Let's be honest. The NBA has always had,
in my opinion, the best commissioner.

Speaker 7 (15:38):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
From Stern to Silver. Ever since Stern took over, the
best commissioner. who actually cares for the league's players. Not
to say that Goodell and whoever the commissioner of baseball
is right now don't care for, you know.

Speaker 7 (15:57):
Oh, I think you could say Goodell doesn't care.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
I didn't want to put that out there.

Speaker 4 (16:04):
I didn't want to put that out there, but you did.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
But, you know, Adam Silver is by far the best...
commissioner in sports right now. Outstanding.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
He's outstanding.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
By far. By far. And the product that he's put
up on the television for us fans to watch has
made it so enjoyable.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
So they all live in the same, they're living on
Disney World, right?

Speaker 5 (16:34):
Disney World, right?

Speaker 3 (16:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
My World of Sports Campus.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
And they, um, so they all, is there like, do
they all get to hang out or they're like bars
and shit?

Speaker 3 (16:42):
Like, yeah, that's, that's been like one of the really
fun parts of watching all this happen. Because if you
follow any of the players on social media or any
of the teams that you always get, like these shots
of this group went out fishing together or they were
at the wherever together, just.

Speaker 5 (16:56):
Sort of hanging out, doing stuff. There was a really
good one last night.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Mike Connelly, Mike Connelly, who plays for the jazz, he
had to leave for personal reasons and he came back
and he was doing his quarantine. And after the Jazz
won the game, Donovan Mitchell, who's been balling like fucking
crazy for them, went by and they were like filming
Mike through the window. And he's just sort of saying,
it was like a really sweet sort of tender moment.

Speaker 5 (17:19):
Like, this is fucking cool.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
How long do you have to quarantine? Two weeks if
you go home?

Speaker 1 (17:22):
I think it's something like seven days.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Yeah, with Conley, he was getting tested while he was
out so that he could come back quicker, so I
think they were making him do, I think, like four days,
but it's usually a handful of days.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Yeah, Rondo's going to be back soon.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
Four days, I mean, I heard that like 80% of
symptoms show in 10 days or something like that. Please
don't quote me on that, and don't judge your life
on that. I'm just fucking recalling from memory. But I
guess if you're getting tested every day, it's different. I mean,
you would at least know if you have a test every, like,
twice a day.

Speaker 5 (17:55):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Shay, welcome back to the show, man. We really love
having you on, and the fans love your insight. you
can speak way wiser about these episodes than, than Donald
and I can. We can just talk about.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
I'm so nervous to do the recap right now because.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Oh yeah, Shay, you got to see the new segment.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
I know that Shay is like the king of recaps.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
We should have had Shay write one too. So you
guys could.

Speaker 5 (18:25):
.

Speaker 1 (18:27):

.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
Cause then everybody would be like, let's just have
Shay do the freaking recap.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
Donald, thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
I'm excited after Donald's recap to talk about the first
thing that came to my mind, and I want to
talk about it. I'm just going to tease. I'm going
to do what's called teasing, Donald, in radio. We talk
about something we're going to talk about after your recap.
I would not have the patience to wait around for
Carla if she was like, I need to think about it.
I need to think about it. I need to think
about it. I'd be like, you know what? You don't
need to think that hard.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
We'll get into it. Let's start. Let's start.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
I was a tease. That was a tease. Hold on.
Let me get my stopwatch ready.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
I got to do it in 30 seconds.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Okay. Lick your lips.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
Fuck you.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
And I want you to look good for Shay, right?
And go.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
Dr.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
Cox becomes the storyteller in this episode, and we learn
that he's not the altogether guy we think he is.
Elliot meets someone who works at the hospital and is
surprised when she finds out that he is a nurse.
Turk tries to figure out what he's doing wrong to
make Carla have to think.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
About his proposal.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
How we're perceived by others, although sometimes it may be positive,
isn't necessarily who we are.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
Getting to know someone and.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
Being open to others truly is the only way to
find out who they are.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
And that's it.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Beautiful.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
But it's true. This whole episode is... And you know what? Shay,
you know what?

Speaker 4 (19:51):
I know why you wanted to do this episode. Because
this is an episode on perception. And this whole episode
is about who we think somebody is because of either
what they do or how they present themselves isn't necessarily
who they are When you really get to know them.

(20:11):
And we don't know this stuff. Like, the whole thing
with Cox and how, you know, we, from the beginning
of the show, you think he's, you know he has
some issues, but you think he's this put-together guy whose
strength is the fact that he's this alpha male. But
that's his weakness, it turns out to be, in this episode.

(20:32):
In real talk... He's a very weak man. He's good
at his job. He's good at, you know, he's good
at training these kids. But he's a weak, weak man.
He has real problems.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Don't you find like stereotypically the guy with the biggest
fucking ego and screaming at everyone and being just an
insane narcissist is very often incredibly insecure?

Speaker 4 (20:58):
Well, when you say narcissist, yeah, I definitely feel that way.
But I don't look at LeBron James like, oh, man,
LeBron's a weak dude.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
You know what I mean? I look at him like, yo,
he can carry a team. He has the strength to carry,
to hold men up.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
No, but LeBron isn't treating people like that.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
And it would be crazy to me if when we,
when getting to know LeBron James, if he turned out
to be this dude who has a problem speaking up
and has a problem with confrontation.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
And you know what I mean? These things would be,
it would blow my mind is my point. but I'll
let Shay talk about it.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
Yeah, that's pretty close to the reason that I wanted
to do this one when Joel reached out. All of
the very best TV shows are the very best TV
shows because of the relationships that they are able to
make you care about. Peggy and Don in Mad Men,
Jim and Pam in The Office, Avon and Stringer in
The Wire, Arabella and Pretty much anyone on I May

(21:55):
Destroy You. Because that thing, that interpersonal connection with someone
else is not only something that we sort of understand implicitly,
but also it's something that we all want and need
and pursue. And the more ways that a show can
press that button in your chest... the sort of higher
up the rankings that can climb. It's the same reason

(22:17):
that so many people respond to you two on this show.
It feels like you get to be a part of
y'all's relationship, which is very clearly a special thing. So
when Joel reached out and asked which episode I wanted
to do, I knew that this one had to be
the one. Mind you, there are some really great episodes
in season two. You have the Colin Hay overkill episode,

(22:39):
which I would argue is the first truly iconic Scrubs
music cue. Scrubs is the best show ever at using music,
and this was the first time we saw how exceptional
they were going to be at that one.

Speaker 5 (22:49):
So you have that one. You have J.D.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
's brother getting introduced into the show. You have Turk
coming through for Carla when her mom passes away. There
are a lot of those moments, but I especially enjoy
this one because, A, we get very good glimpses of
several of the relationships in the show, and then, B,
we get Carla and Turk officially getting engaged, and that
Carla and Turk relationship is, I would argue, among the

(23:13):
very best romantic relationship portrayals that any television show has
ever offered.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
I agree with that. I agree with that wholeheartedly, man.

Speaker 4 (23:21):
And not because I was a part of it, but
their dynamic is very much similar to the dynamic.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
That my wife and I have.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (23:30):
I'm the immature one, and she's the one that freaking
grounds us. You know what I mean? And that's the
exact same thing that Carla and Turk have. I agree
with that.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
I like that you were so passionate. When I reached
out to Shay on Twitter, I said, we want to
have you back. I hope you'll come back. We want
to have you back at least once a season. You pick.
And by the way, I said this to Shay before
I said it to Johnny C, before I said it
to anybody, any other cast members. I was like, Shay,
whatever episode you want. And he's like, within like five minutes,

(24:01):
he's like, it probably would have been quicker if you'd
probably seen the tweet earlier. But right when he saw it,
he was like, no doubt, his story, his story by far.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
Guys, I have to pause you right here for a
special announcement.

Speaker 9 (24:11):
Hold, please.

Speaker 8 (24:13):
Interrupting Bill.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Oh, my God. He's got a new segment called Interrupting Bill.

Speaker 8 (24:20):
It's the new segment when I interrupt your podcast whenever
I want and ask you a question that I can
then get to listen to the answer to. I hope
there's good music from Dan or Joelle. Guys, play this
whenever you want. Look, I love this episode, his story,
and I'm psyched that you two are there.

Speaker 5 (24:35):
Zach, Donald, hey, Shay, hey.

Speaker 8 (24:38):
I love that Eric Boghossian's in there because of his
relationship with Johnny C. I think it's got the most
romantic song at the end. I hope that song's still
in the online cut. It's called Question by the Old 97s.
If you want to talk about it, we actually started
with the song first in this one because we knew
we wanted to kind of have a cool proposal underneath
this music. But your question is, can you tell me?

Speaker 2 (25:01):
There was a.

Speaker 8 (25:02):
Joke in this episode that got us the most vitriolic complaint.
and an actual letter of admonishment from a national organization
that thought the joke was incredibly offensive. Probably more of
a stern letter than I got from any national organization.

Speaker 7 (25:19):
Can you tell me what that joke was?

Speaker 2 (25:21):
I know the answer. Can I go?

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
It actually hit me, and I was surprised by it. Again,
this is a product of 20 years ago. But when
Kelso makes fun of Ricky Schroeder for being a nurse,
and he says, because you're doing a woman's job. And
I think that, I imagine it was the nursing association,

(25:48):
some national medical nursing association, or maybe it was the AMA,
I don't know, who said, A, that's bullshit and stop
perpetuating that. And B, there is such a shortage of nurses.
The last thing we need you doing is convincing men
that they shouldn't pursue this very noble profession. And if

(26:09):
you want to be a show that celebrates the medical profession,
you're actually hurting us by putting old, antiquated stereotypes on
the nursing profession. That's my guess. Dan, is he right?
Let's find out.

Speaker 8 (26:26):
The answer is, when Paul... says Paul, the nurse played
by Rick Schroeder, says Elliot's embarrassed to date me because
I'm a nurse and I don't know why. Kelso's response is, well, son,
it's because it's a woman's job. The National Organization of
Nurses admonished us and sent us a letter saying that
we really set things back and how offensive they found that,

(26:48):
which I understand, but also I would argue that Kelso
was supposed to be that kind of old school guy
from a sexist era that would believe and say things
like that. That said, I'm not surprised, and we got
that reaction, and this is my official, I'm sorry. My
favorite joke in this episode, actually, randomly, was when Sarah

(27:10):
Chalk just throws away a very matter-of-fact sad thing, which
she does a lot. She's like, hey, I didn't break
up with Paul because he's a nurse, so stop putting
bedpans in my locker.

Speaker 7 (27:19):
It makes me cry. I always love that.

Speaker 8 (27:21):
Two other pieces of trivia. One, this is the first
episode that was narrated by another character completely. And two,
this is the introduction of another fan favorite recur character, Patient,
played by one of our stuntmen. You should be able
to answer this. So I'm not giving you the answer.
I'll be back in a few minutes with another interruption.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Oh, my God. He's going to go, first of all,
all right, he's going to need to calm down, all right?
I appreciate it. Bill, I appreciate the new segment, but
it was a little long, and no offense, and now
we're told there's more?

Speaker 1 (28:01):
I'm all right with it.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
Little by little little by little it becomes like Donald
and I are like just like five minutes of the
podcast is Bill just monologuing well since Bill brought it
up let's all talk about it because I think that
was something that was shocking and by the way we
can all address the fact that one thing the show
highlights and Shay you'll be able to articulate this better

(28:23):
than Donald and I is masculinity and stereotypical masculinity and
what that means and how Ricky Schroeder was playing this
guy who's very handsome and he's charming. And she immediately
looked down upon him because he was in her. She
was literally embarrassed to be seen with him because he
was a nurse.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
Yeah. It's an, it's an interesting dichotomy here because a
thing that happens in this episode that often happens in,
in scrubs episode is you have two storylines happening at
the same time that don't seem like they're related, but like, philosophically,
they are related. So you have what Donald was mentioning
earlier with Dr.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Cox.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
Very clearly, we get to see how destructive his masculinity
is in his life, like this sort of traditional, overt,
I don't need anybody.

Speaker 5 (29:13):
Persona that he has.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
We see the backside of it, and it's like, oh,
he's fucking miserable, and he has to watch his He
didn't even finish watching the game. He's got a stack
of pizza boxes because he thought people were going to
show up. Like this is a very sad moment. So
you have that going. And then on the other side
of it, the total opposite side of that is you
have this other person who's clearly an advanced individual, Rigg's character.
And like you're saying, he's smart and funny and charming

(29:37):
and handsome, but he can't get a fair shake either. Like,
he's doing the thing you're supposed to do, and people
are looking down on him. Here, we're sort of idolizing
this one character. Secretly, his life is falling apart. Over here,
we're looking down on this other character, and he's got
all of his shit together, but we just don't appreciate
what it is that he's doing. Right. Yep.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Shay, I'm so happy you're here.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
I think we should cut Bill's interruptions. Just have Shay interrupt.
Bill will not like that.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Bill won't like that.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
No, he wouldn't.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
Bill won't like that.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
You know, let's talk for a second about Rick Schroeder
because we, I don't know about you, Shay, but Donald,
and I guess I don't know about you in this regard,
but Silver Spoons was on my watch list.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
Dude, the champ. Just let's go back to the champ.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
Okay, the champ I never saw. You never saw the champ?
I never saw the champ.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
I think it's Rick Schroeder and Jon Voight plays the champ.

Speaker 9 (30:37):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
And I know that Rick Schroeder cried in a way
that no one had ever seen a kid cry in
a movie, and.

Speaker 5 (30:42):
It was heartbreaking. It's a tough watch. Heartbreaking.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Come on, champ! Like, Rick Schroeder, when I was a kid,
you know, it was.

Speaker 4 (30:52):
So Rick had the show, and then when they introduced
Alfonso Ribeiro to the show, that's when I was hooked.

Speaker 7 (30:58):
Why?

Speaker 2 (30:59):
Oh, because they brought in a young, handsome black man,
and you were like.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
Oh, go on! Well, yeah, you know, absolutely. As a young...
African-American male, it's always great to see... Well, I'm not
going to say handsome because that's up for other people
to decide.

Speaker 4 (31:16):
But it's always great to see somebody representing you on screen.
So when they brought in Alfonso and he was doing
all the Michael Jackson stuff, that show became even more
to me. But absolutely, Silver Spoons, in my opinion, was
one of those shows that I would look to watch
because of the relationships that Rick had with his dad

(31:40):
and with his friends.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
You know what I mean? This was this.

Speaker 4 (31:44):
Kid who was extremely rich and wasn't a dick about
all of his money. He was very much like, you know,
everybody come and experience what me and my dad have.
That being said, yes, I want to give a quick
shout out to Jason Bateman. who was the bad guy
on Silver Spoons back.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
In the day. I forgot about that. A lot of
people don't remember this. Was that Jason's first part?

Speaker 1 (32:08):
I don't know, but from that point on, he became
a star.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
I think they even did a spinoff.

Speaker 4 (32:14):
From Silver Spoon, starring Jason Bateman, where he and some
other dude would constantly play pranks on each other.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
I'm going to go with your digression and say Jason
Bateman has had the most epic, awesome career. I mean,
he's started at such a young age and has done
so much great work. And now in this new chapter, directing,
I mean, I don't know if you're watching Ozark, but
his direction on Ozark is extraordinary.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:43):
And it's just, it's just so, you know, there's so
few people that can start that young and then, and then.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Go this long.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
Oh, he was on Little House. That's right. Jason and
I made a film called The X, which it's kind
of a B plus. Okay. But I think you'll laugh.
Check out, if you get a chance, check out The X.
It's Jason and Charles Grodin and- Amanda Peay. And- Amanda Peete,

(33:11):
Fred Armisen, Mia Farrow. I mean, it has an amazing,
amazing cast. And I think you'll giggle at it. It's
a good thing to watch when you're home. We've got
to get a break. And we will be right back
with Shea Serrano and Donald Faison and Joellen Dale.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
And we're back!

Speaker 2 (33:36):
And we're back! Silver Spoons, yeah, I mean, I really
loved it. I thought, like, it was, I think every
kid dreamed of having that kind of wealth. I mean,
and also a father who was so young and fun. Like, remember,
there was a train. They had a rideable train that
would go through the living room. And I just remember thinking,

(33:59):
and there was a remote control that opened the front
door and there were arcade games in the living room.
And I just thought like, you know, it was clearly
targeted at whatever age I was. And I just thought
it was so exciting. And then they had a very
special episode. We talked about this once on the podcast before,
where back in the day when a sitcom would have

(34:19):
a dramatic episode, here we were on a show that
would have lots of drama, but on a traditional three camera,
you know, in front live and from an audience sitcom,
they would go, they would give a warning. They would
be like tonight on a very special episode of silver spoons.
We recommend parents watch with their children. And that was
the episode when, when Rick, they called him the Ricker,

(34:41):
the Ricker shot a deer. And then the Ricker was
really upset that he killed the deer. He regretted killing
the deer. Do anybody remember this?

Speaker 4 (34:49):
I don't remember that. The thing that I remember most
about that show.

Speaker 1 (34:54):
Is the theme song. Here we are, face to face,
a couple of silver spoons. Hoping to find we're two
of a kind. Making it go, making it grow.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
Together, we're going to find our way.

Speaker 4 (35:17):
Together, making a time each day to learn all about
those things you just can't find.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
I think you should have gotten falsetto there. Can't find.

Speaker 5 (35:33):
Silver spoons together.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
This is when you go falsetto. You and I. I
used to love that.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
That's a good song. So Alfonso came on as the
best friend, and he was doing lots of dancing, like
Michael Jackson-style dancing.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
As all black people do on television shows when introduced. Listen,
we can talk about this.

Speaker 4 (35:59):
How many times did I dance on this motherfucking show?

Speaker 1 (36:02):
How about that? Let's go there.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
Well, okay. In fairness, you're a very good dancer.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
So is Alfonso.

Speaker 2 (36:10):
And I think any performer that you bring on to
a TV show, you're going to go, what are they
great at? Let's fucking use everything they're great at.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
The West Wing didn't have Dulé tap dance.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
And Dulé tap dance?

Speaker 1 (36:23):
Dulé is one of the best tap dancers in the world.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
I didn't know that.

Speaker 1 (36:26):
One of the best tap dancers in the world is
Dulé Hill.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
A lot of people don't know that. If I was
Aaron Sorkin, I would have been like, you guys.

Speaker 1 (36:33):
We got to find a way to get Dulé to
tap dance.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
I didn't know that about Dulé. One of the best
in the world. Speaking of tap dancing, I was a
kid and I saw Alfonso in The Tap Dance Kid
on Broadway, which was a tap dance musical.

Speaker 4 (36:49):
Dulé Hill was also one of the tap dance kids.
That's how good he was.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
Alfonso did it on Broadway. Alfonso originated it on Broadway.
I don't know how good of a tap dancer Alfonso is,
but he was the first one on Broadway to play it.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
And then Savion and Dulé, I think, did the tour.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
Savion took over for Alfonso and then it became a
completely different show.

Speaker 1 (37:15):
Then it became more about the tap. From what I recall.
I could be wrong.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
Don't get it twisted. I just remember as a kid
who loved Broadway and spectacle that at a certain point
there was a cable car that went across the stage. Like,
you know, big Broadway budget musicals will have some big
set moment where you're like, oh my God, look at that.
And their moment was like the cable car rode. It
must have been I'm imagining it's the 59th Street. What

(37:42):
do you call it?

Speaker 1 (37:42):
It takes place in Harlem. It takes place in New
York City.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
Well, I think he rode that thing. You know that
thing that goes to, what's the island next to Manhattan
and they have a cable car that goes to it?

Speaker 1 (37:53):
Staten Island?

Speaker 2 (37:55):
No. You know that weird little island that's next to Manhattan?

Speaker 3 (38:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
Donald, you grew up on the fucking island. You don't
know where it is? Joel, where's the cable car?

Speaker 1 (38:05):
It's on 59th Street. I know what you're talking about.
On the east side. I know what you're talking about.

Speaker 2 (38:08):
And what's the name of the island it goes to?

Speaker 1 (38:09):
I don't know where that shit goes.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
I never rode that shit. Don't yell at me.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
I'm not yelling, but that's like me. I'm from New York.
Ask me if I've ever been to the Statue of Liberty.

Speaker 2 (38:18):
Have you ever been to the Statue of Liberty?

Speaker 1 (38:19):
I have not been to the Statue of Liberty.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
Why do you hate freedom? Why do you hate freedom?

Speaker 1 (38:24):
Ask me this. Ask me if when the World Trade
Center was up, if I had ever been to the
top of the World Trade Center.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
I'm going to guess the answer's no.

Speaker 9 (38:33):
Right.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
Ask me if I've ever been to the top of
the Empire State Building.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
Have you been to the top of the Empire State Building?

Speaker 3 (38:38):
No, man!

Speaker 2 (38:39):
I'm from New York!

Speaker 1 (38:42):
I'm from there! Have you ever been to the Roosevelt
Island tramway?

Speaker 2 (38:46):
Oh, Roosevelt Island. Roosevelt Island. So, for those of you
who have no idea what we're talking about, there's a
little mini island next to Manhattan, and it's called Roosevelt Island.
And people... There's like a whole community there, and... there
is a tram, a cable car thing that goes over there.
And tourists often ride it, but also I think people

(39:07):
that live there ride it.

Speaker 1 (39:10):
We should probably get back to the show.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
I know, we should get in the episode. Sorry. We digress.

Speaker 1 (39:15):
First of all, let's talk about the cold open. Judy,
fucking great pratfall in the beginning.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Yes, good for Judy. I love it when Judy gets
comedy because she always was concerned that she wasn't getting
enough comedy. And whenever I see her do a full
a pratfall now I'm happy because she nails the door.

Speaker 4 (39:32):
She she nails it and she and and it's very
funny I was gonna say we already brought it up
but the Ricker joins us man And now we can't
talk about Silver Spoons because we already talked about it.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
The Ricker was on another TV show for a while.
Was it NYPD Blue, I think?

Speaker 1 (39:51):
Something like that, yeah. Or Law and Order, something like that.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
Joel, will you look that up? Yeah. So he had
a long career, but.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
He- But he was doing that at the same time
he did Scrubs, right?

Speaker 3 (40:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
If I'm correct.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
So I remember that he was on a series at
the time. Yeah. And the diner I just thought was
interesting was our cafeteria. For some reason, they decided to read.
Do you remember this, Donald? That whole diner set that
we go to twice was built into our cafeteria.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
For a little bit. I do remember.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
And I don't know why they did that. They spent
a lot of money, for some reason, converting the hospital
cafeteria into a diner. And that's not something we ever did.
I don't think the cafeteria ever became anything else again
other than this time.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
It became a diner. Well, it's the same diner with Sean, too, though.
where Sean gets real fat.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Oh, maybe they did. I don't recall. I just remember,
I just remember we, there's something on the blooper reel
that happened. I think it was a spit bucket or something.
If you can, if anyone's that curious, you could consult
the season two blooper reel. But I remember something happened
with this, this, this ketchup gag on your face.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
Oh dude, no, I remember what happened. I remember what
happened with the ketchup.

Speaker 2 (40:59):
It was a spit bucket.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
No, it wasn't a spit bucket.

Speaker 4 (41:02):
The ketchup gag to my face made, I said to
the camera, oh, now I know what a porn star
feels like.

Speaker 2 (41:06):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (41:10):
That didn't make it to air?

Speaker 1 (41:12):
That did not make it to air. That didn't make
it to air.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
On Scrubs Wiki, they mentioned that you can see the
little hose that's going to your fake- Go on.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
Go on.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
They can see the hose that's running to your fake
ketchup bottle that splatters all over your face if you're
interested in fuck-ups. You can see that.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
Okay. Okay.

Speaker 1 (41:33):
I thought you were going to say something else.

Speaker 2 (41:35):
No.

Speaker 1 (41:36):
Also, I got annoyed with Turk this episode. Me too. Like, dude,
because he just keeps asking her to marry him.

Speaker 2 (41:47):
Yeah, I mean, it's embarrassing.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
It is embarrassing. Over and over and over again.

Speaker 4 (41:53):
So much to him standing on top of a car
at the end of our cold open.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
Honk for love.

Speaker 1 (42:00):
Honk for love. And everybody's honking because they want these
two jackasses to get out of the street. As JD
runs down the freaking, runs through traffic.

Speaker 2 (42:08):
But that was kind of cute, though, of JD.

Speaker 1 (42:10):
With sparklers.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
Well, obviously, this first time is to set up the
second time. And the second time literally gave me full
body goosebumps because I thought it was so romantic and sweet.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
But where did you come from the second time?

Speaker 4 (42:23):
Where the fuck did you come from the second time?
How did you know that was going down from a text?

Speaker 2 (42:28):
Well, what happened? I mean, I have questions about how
that happened anyway. Like, so she said, come meet me
just as you're about to go fucking on your first date.
By the way, you didn't waste any time.

Speaker 7 (42:37):
No.

Speaker 1 (42:37):
Well, you know.

Speaker 2 (42:38):
She was like vanilla or chocolate. I like that chocolate.

Speaker 1 (42:43):
Dude. You know, I like that chocolate.

Speaker 4 (42:52):
Also, he finished the chili dog in front of her.

Speaker 1 (42:57):
He ate the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (42:58):
I thought it was weird. So we're jumping ahead. So
let's just go back to sparklers. Okay. So I just
have a problem. And Shay, what are your thoughts on this?
The guy is, I just felt if it was real
life and I asked the love of my life to
marry me and she was like, maybe I need to
think about it, that I would really be turned off.

(43:20):
I would be like, well, why am I so sure
of this? And you're not. And Donald and Turk's technique
is just keep asking and asking and asking.

Speaker 9 (43:27):
Mm-hmm.

Speaker 3 (43:28):
I think there are different versions of guys, but this
is very much a guy trait when she is telling
you exactly what she needs right now.

Speaker 5 (43:37):
I just need some space.

Speaker 3 (43:38):
And you are like, that's not actually what you need.
What you need is me to just figure out a
way to say this differently and bigger and better. And
I can prove to you how much I love you.
And that's a thing that a lot of guys do.
But you get the sense that somebody like Turk in
the show, who is very used to his whole life
having to Either A, fight for something a little bit

(44:00):
harder than everybody else is having to fight for, or B,
just wanting to win at every single thing he participates in,
which is another thing we see in the show. It
would make sense that he would react this way to
this particular thing.

Speaker 2 (44:14):
That's a good point. He turns it into an athletic competition.
He's like, I'm going to do a bigger and better proposal.
This time I'm going to stand on a car.

Speaker 4 (44:24):
In real life, when I met my wife after Zach
you know, stepped to her and said, you know, he
likes you, I would run into her over and over again.
And every time I ran into her, I would ask
for her number. And she would do something that Carla's doing. Like,
Carla's not saying no. She's just saying, give me time.

(44:47):
And my wife, now my wife, before, I would ask
her out every time I saw her.

Speaker 5 (44:53):
Let me just get that number.

Speaker 1 (44:55):
Why don't you give me that number?

Speaker 2 (44:56):
What would she say?

Speaker 4 (44:57):
She'd be like, She would be like, this is the
fucked up shit. She would be like, not this time.
Probably next time I see you, I'll give it. So
it meant, okay, so not this time. So now I'm
trying to figure out new ways. And she would do
things where it would be like, I'd be out and
about with a girl, and she'd come up to me
and be like, hey, how's it going? And I'd forget

(45:18):
about the girl and be like, oh, shit.

Speaker 2 (45:21):
How are you doing?

Speaker 1 (45:22):
Let's go out on a date. Forget this, girl.

Speaker 4 (45:26):
I'm really into you. And she'd be like, not this time.
But next time you ask me, I'll probably give it
to you.

Speaker 1 (45:33):
Every time you talk about Casey, I love her more.
She's so tough.

Speaker 4 (45:39):
Yo, her game is tight. And then just like Turk,
Turk goes, you know what? I'm done doing this shit.
This is some bullshit. I've jumped through hoops enough. I'm
no longer going to do it. Then she accepts the proposal.
And the same thing with my wife. I finally said,
you know what? I'm not going to pursue this anymore.

(46:02):
She's playing me like I'm a freaking, like I'm lotto,
like I'm the lottery. So I'm not going to, I'm
not going to push her anymore. And she comes back
at me and she's like, hey, how's it going? And
I remember it was me, you, the girl you were
dating at the time, and Josh Radin. We were at Hyde.
And she goes, hey, how's it going? And I look
up and I go, hey, how's it going? And I

(46:23):
go back to our company. We were talking.

Speaker 1 (46:25):
And she goes, oh, shit. Well, you know, I was
going to give you my number, but I guess now
I won't.

Speaker 2 (46:30):
Oh, but don't you think? But come on, buddy. Don't
you think the only reason she flipped was because now
you gave her the cold shoulder? And she was like, what, bro?

Speaker 4 (46:37):
But I think that's why Carla flipped also. She was
asking for the space. And then Turk finally gives her
the space. And she's like, well, OK, I need him
in my life. I'm realizing right now I want him
in my life. The fact that I don't know that
he's not working today. is a big deal for me
because I know everything about the guy. And so therefore,

(46:57):
oh shit, what am I doing? This dude just asked
me to marry him and this is what I've always wanted.
Fuck yeah, I want to marry you. And that's when
the switch happened.

Speaker 1 (47:05):
The switch happened when she realized, oh shit, there's a
possibility he might not be around for me anymore.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
It's amazing how people quickly change when we shift who
we're being. Like the second you know, it's like a
game of ping pong and I'm hitting like this, I'm
hitting like this, I'm hitting like this. The second I
do something completely different and put spin on it, you
then have to react and do it differently. And it's just,
I know I'm stating the obvious, but it's interesting in
just in human relationships, how we get stuck in this rut.

(47:34):
I'm being, Turk's being this way, he's being this way,
he's being this way. All of a sudden he just
shifts like, and then she has to shift to react.
I mean, it's a very powerful communications tool that I
don't know that we knowingly marshal enough. You know what
I mean? Like it's it's like all you needed was
to stop being so desperate. And then she shifted.

Speaker 3 (47:56):
I think he needed to not only did he need
to give her the space, but it needed to happen
in the way that it happened, because I think that
that's what sort of jogs her memory and allows her
to connect everything back to like, oh, this is like
a fear I have because of a thing that happened
in my past. You know what I'm saying? This is
not just like, oh, I just need for him to
not be available for him or for a few minutes.

(48:17):
This is more, I have a thing in my head
that I need to work my way through. And by
him acting the way that he did, it finally helped
her figure out exactly what it was that she wanted
and what it was that she, that she needed. You know,
it was less about just like, I'm just not going
to be here anymore. It was more about all of
the other parts of it, what that all meant. And
then him finally like breaking away and then her realizing, oh,

(48:38):
this is because of like my own things that I
have going on.

Speaker 5 (48:41):
Not because of him. Cause that's like a thing. He
keeps trying to figure out like what it is about.
Is it about me?

Speaker 3 (48:45):
Is it because you don't like this? is because you
don't like that. And it turns out it was not
any of those things. It was like her own stuff
that she had to wrestle with first.

Speaker 7 (48:53):
Right.

Speaker 2 (48:53):
Donald, when Casey finally gave in and went on a
date with you, did you guys click right away?

Speaker 4 (49:02):
Yeah, well, that was the thing. So you know me,
and Daniel, Shay, Joel, you guys are getting to know me.
The type of person I like to be around... It's
somebody who's fun and enjoys moments.

Speaker 1 (49:17):
You know what I mean? And I could tell.

Speaker 4 (49:20):
from one dance with her that she was funny and
that she enjoyed you know just.

Speaker 2 (49:26):
Moments living in the moment living in the moment right.

Speaker 4 (49:29):
Was special to her and so I knew look if
I could just get this young lady out on a
date with me.

Speaker 1 (49:38):
I will be I can be me completely.

Speaker 4 (49:41):
And I think she'll bounce off of it. We have something,
there's something about that, that energy that we have, that
spark that we have, that's undeniable. And, you know, the
fact that she's pushing me away, but telling me to
come close is proof that she.

Speaker 1 (49:57):
Feels it too.

Speaker 4 (49:58):
And so from the first date on, we were to,
you know, I, we went out on a date and we,
and the next day we were together. And the day
after that, we were together until we got married. And,
you know, we've been together ever since, but, It only
took one date because I knew she's going to enjoy
what I have to offer. And I'm definitely going to
enjoy what she has to offer. And we sat down

(50:21):
at a dingy ass pizza restaurant that's no longer around
and talk shit about our lives. And then we went
to the dime, which was right next door to the
dingy ass pizza restaurant and ran into my old friend,
Jessica McArdo. That's when I knew I was like, this
is this is this has got to work. And she
was on the first date with the man she's now

(50:42):
married to. Michelle Paish was spinning. DJ Michelle Paish, for
those of y'all who don't know. Yeah, I just knew.
I knew that once we hung out, I knew that
we would have a lot of fun together.

Speaker 1 (50:54):
So, yeah, we clicked. As Forrest Gump would say, we
were like peas and carrots. You know what I mean?
Right away.

Speaker 2 (51:02):
Peas and carrots. Let's talk about Johnny C. taking over
the voiceover. So this was the first time this has
ever happened. happened, and the first time a title of
the show has moved from my such and such to
his story or her story or what have you. And
Bill establishing the convention of when it does happen, the

(51:25):
person is sort of tapped, and it goes into their body.
I don't know who the next one was. Was it you, Donald,
or was it Sarah?

Speaker 1 (51:32):
No, I think Sarah's next.

Speaker 2 (51:33):
Sarah's next. And then were you, was it once a
season that we did it?

Speaker 3 (51:37):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (51:39):
And then we introduced Eric Boghossian, who, uh, those who
don't know, Eric Boghossian is an amazing writer and actor. And, um, when,
when Johnny C was on and he told that story
of doing the play talk radio, uh, where he forgot
his lines and he was late and, um, talk radio
is a incredible play, mostly a kind of a, a

(51:59):
major epic monologue by Eric Boghossian, uh, who wrote it.
And Johnny C asked him to come on and play his, uh,
his shrink in this episode. So we also learn that
Johnny's in therapy and at least trying, at least even
though he and his shrink have a very contentious relationship,
he's at least trying to do work on himself.

Speaker 1 (52:21):
Cox is in therapy because of Jordan, though, if I'm correct, right?

Speaker 2 (52:27):
I think he's in therapy just because he's a miserable
human being.

Speaker 4 (52:30):
No, but I think one of the reasons why he
did it was to If we go back to when
Jordan says, you know, when him and Jordan are starting
to get back together again, when she walks out on
him after he was supposed to do the speech for
Kelso and he talks about Kelso like he's an evil person.
I think one of the things he says to Jordan,
if I'm correct, I could be wrong. He says, look,

(52:52):
I'm doing therapy now like you wanted me to do
back in the day so I can work out my problems.

Speaker 1 (52:56):
I could be wrong. I don't think I am. But,
you know, I think all of the things that.

Speaker 4 (53:01):
He's going through right now, at least the therapy session
that he's going through, was because of him wanting to
get back with Jordan. I would like to ask Bill,
but he won't answer this shit anymore.

Speaker 2 (53:13):
Well, we have a new format with Bill, as you know.
Bill interrupts and goes on four-minute monologues. Okay, we're going
to take a break. And when we come back, we
are going to have a very thrilling guest. And you
know how I know that? Because Joelle is the person
that picks them.

Speaker 1 (53:32):
And also, we're going to fix their life.

Speaker 2 (53:35):
Oh, yeah. In our new segment. And Shay's going to
help us. We're going to fix this person's life.

Speaker 1 (53:41):
Shay's like, what did I sign up for?

Speaker 5 (53:42):
I didn't know about this part.

Speaker 2 (53:45):
We'll be right back. We'll be right.

Speaker 1 (53:49):
Back. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome Chris.

Speaker 2 (53:57):
Hi, Chris.

Speaker 6 (53:58):
Hey, guys.

Speaker 1 (53:59):
What's happening, brother?

Speaker 9 (54:00):
I'm good. How y'all doing?

Speaker 1 (54:02):
Chilling.

Speaker 2 (54:03):
Welcome to the show.

Speaker 1 (54:04):
You got Shea Serrano, Zach Braff, Joel Monique, and Daniel
Goodman on the line.

Speaker 9 (54:09):
I have butterflies in my stomach right now, guys. I'm
so excited.

Speaker 2 (54:14):
I want the audience to know that you're wearing a
very dope Selena shirt that Daniel has already worn.

Speaker 6 (54:18):
Thank you.

Speaker 9 (54:18):
That was for Shea. I wore that for Shea.

Speaker 5 (54:21):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 9 (54:21):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (54:22):
Are you a big Selena fan?

Speaker 1 (54:24):
I love Selena.

Speaker 3 (54:25):
Every Mexican loves Selena. They play it at the hospital
when you're born. You come out to Biddy Biddy Bom Bom.

Speaker 9 (54:36):
At your baptism, at your wedding, at your funeral.

Speaker 1 (54:41):
I thought it would be I could fall in love.

Speaker 5 (54:44):
Different songs for different.

Speaker 3 (54:46):
That's later on in your life.

Speaker 2 (54:51):
Where are you calling from, Chris?

Speaker 9 (54:54):
I'm next door. I'm in Phoenix. I'm just right next
to you guys here. It's 185 degrees every day.

Speaker 1 (55:01):
It's got to be burning right now.

Speaker 4 (55:03):
This is 106 right now in the valley.

Speaker 1 (55:05):
What's it for you?

Speaker 9 (55:07):
Today is the first day in 45 days that it's
under 110 degrees. It's only 109 today. We're like, hell yeah.

Speaker 2 (55:22):
Chris, can you even go outside or are you just like, no,
fuck it?

Speaker 9 (55:26):
No pools are like just hot tea you can't even go.

Speaker 2 (55:30):
In your pool i grew up.

Speaker 9 (55:32):
Playing outside i grew up being like i can do
this but now i'm 32 and i'm like i i'm
so miserable i'm irritated i just two minutes if you
just go to your car to get something that you
forgot and you're like just the pissiest person in the
world it's awful.

Speaker 1 (55:46):
You know chris you know what's trending today uh the
meme of me going it's so hot.

Speaker 9 (55:56):
Everyone in Phoenix every day and I send that to
so many people and they're like people from Seattle people
from New York they got friends in Chicago and I'm
like don't even talk to me right now because it's
awful um.

Speaker 2 (56:08):
Well chris welcome to the show welcome welcome you got
a you got a question for us all and obviously
including the legendary shea serrano we can all answer for you.

Speaker 9 (56:17):
I do have a couple questions um one is for
zach here first which is the music because i love
the music so much and scrubs my first like partial
question is who is the jeremy k fan because you
guys use like three or four jeremy k songs in
the first season or two do you know maybe it's
not Zach.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
There's a couple of, it's not me. I, cause I mean, I'm,
I'm sure I loved it, but I have to say, um,
the most underappreciated voice in choosing music was, was Krista
Miller because, um, yeah, she's one it's music is her passion. And, um,
she really, um, kind of took, you know, would be,
you know, I've said this before, what we would do
is we would just fill like huge playlists of potential

(56:57):
songs in the, in the, in the avid, the computer
we use. And, uh, And, you know, kind of grouped
by genre, like, oh, this should be sort of a melancholy,
heartbreaking thing. Oh, this should be uplifting and exciting. Oh,
this should be comedic. And it was about, and lots
of people would contribute like, oh my God, you guys
have to use this song. But I think, and then,
you know, you just try it until in the computer,

(57:20):
until you go, my joke with all the stuff I've
created is if it's an emotional moment, like I do
the goose bump on the arm test, like you can
play your favorite song over and over and over again.
But if it doesn't match with the, with the, with
the moment in the show, it, the magic doesn't happen. And,
and even a song you've been thinking about forever, you go,
Oh man, I really would have thought this would have

(57:41):
been perfect here, but it doesn't work. And then all
of a sudden someone goes, try this song. And you're like, nah,
it's not going to work. And they go, just try it,
try it. And you try it and you go, Oh shit.
Every hair on my arm is standing up. Some, some
little piece of magic has happened. But no, I have to,
I have to really be able to shout out to
Krista who, who I think was, you know, really the
most in charge of music.

Speaker 7 (58:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (58:02):
And that's like, I think the Scrubs is the best
at is just matching the tone with the song you
guys pick. And then the follow-up question is, okay, Zach
and Donald, if you guys made the show in 2020,
what artists or songs are you using now?

Speaker 1 (58:15):
Oh, let me tell you something right now. WAP would
be on the soundtrack.

Speaker 2 (58:19):
Right now, Doug.

Speaker 1 (58:21):
We'd be talking about that WAP.

Speaker 2 (58:23):
I don't think it would be, Donald.

Speaker 5 (58:26):
I think it would be.

Speaker 1 (58:28):
I think it would be.

Speaker 4 (58:29):
I don't think NBC would be like, you know it's
because of that WAP.

Speaker 2 (58:34):
It's hard to run around with sparklers to WAP, but
I could try.

Speaker 4 (58:42):
In truth, I bet you there would be a lot
of Ed Sheeran. Because that's one of Zach's favorite artists.

Speaker 1 (58:49):
There'd be some Charlotte Lawrence.

Speaker 2 (58:52):
Because she's the.

Speaker 4 (58:53):
Daughter of the creator of the show. There'd be some
Olamide Faison because he's my brother and he's making music.

Speaker 2 (59:00):
There'd be Tony Sebastian.

Speaker 1 (59:02):
There'd still be Josh Radin, obviously.

Speaker 4 (59:05):
I think the music still holds up. You know, as
much as those songs were new at the time, I
still feel like they captured every moment perfectly. So I
don't know how much the music would change. I still
think it would still be the same tone.

Speaker 2 (59:22):
Well, there'd be new artists. I think it would be
the same tone, but there are, of course, now this
many years later, so many new singer songwriters that, then
I'm sure we would try. It's funny though. I will
tell you something that I learned, you know, when I
made garden state, I, I pretty much, you know, everyone
said I wasn't going to get that music. And then
I just kept trying and trying and trying. I never

(59:43):
gave up, never gave up, never gave up. And then
I eventually got all of the songs, but then about
10 years later, when I went to make wish I
was here, as I was filling out the time, you'd
fall in love with the song and the editor would
cut it to the song. And he'd be like, Oh
my God, And then we'd have to check, like, okay,
where's the song been used? And then over the course
of those 10 years, we're talking roughly 2004 to 2014,

(01:00:05):
the convention of using music at the end of your
TV show to sort of summarize the end of what
everyone had learned had become so pervasive. that you just
couldn't find an emotional song that hadn't been used 10,000 times.

Speaker 9 (01:00:23):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:00:24):
And we, we found like the websites where you can Google, like,
where has this been used? And it would be like,
Oh no, it was on Grey's Anatomy. It was on this.
It was on this. It was on this. It was
this way. We can't use that fucking song. It's been
so played out. So it became a very popular trend
to this day. It's, it still is. And so it's
a lot harder to, now it's a lot more competitive
to find music that, You're not going to go, yeah,

(01:00:46):
that's a great song, but I just saw it on
such and such a TV show. They used it. In fact,
a little bit of trivia that dovetails with this I
saw on Scrubs Wiki. It says that the song that
ends the show that we all love and is so perfect,
it's in an episode of the TV show Ed when
Ed proposes to his girlfriend. And of course, Ed was

(01:01:06):
played by Tom Cavanaugh, who plays my brother. So, you know,
this is the kind of thing we'd run into nonstop.
you know, when I was cutting Wish I Was Here
is you'd fall in love with something and you're like, oh,
I don't want to do something played out. And actually
to finish the point, the only song that's in Garden
State that's not on the soundtrack is a song by
Alexi Murdoch called Orange Sky. And we didn't put it

(01:01:29):
on the soundtrack because it was on the OC. It
had been used on the show, the OC. And at
the time we were like, oh, okay, we'll put it
in the movie, but I don't want to put it
on the soundtrack.

Speaker 1 (01:01:40):
Here's some other trivia.

Speaker 4 (01:01:41):
Zach and I recorded Somewhere Out There, the song from
American Tail.

Speaker 1 (01:01:48):
This is how hard it is now. Like, we had done.

Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
Oh, yeah, I forgot about this.

Speaker 1 (01:01:52):
We had done a Christmas.

Speaker 4 (01:01:53):
We were going to try and do Christmas songs, like,
every year and stuff like that. And so the first
year we did Baby, It's Cold Outside, which now nobody's
going to record ever again.

Speaker 2 (01:02:03):
Well, maybe with altered lyrics.

Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
Right, but that shit's a rape song.

Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
No, but I mean, maybe the song is so beautiful,
I hope that people will maybe alter the lyrics and
be like, baby, can I call you an Uber? I
believe you should. Baby, you've had too much. Can I
make sure you get home safely?

Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
And so a couple of years later, we were like,
we should do another one.

Speaker 4 (01:02:33):
And we chose Somewhere Out There Beneath the Pale Moonlight.

Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
Oh, we recorded it? We laid it down? It was amazing.

Speaker 4 (01:02:42):
We laid it down and everything, and I played it
for a buddy of mine. He was like, oh, wow,
this is just like what Donald Glover and Daniel Pudi
did on.

Speaker 1 (01:02:51):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (01:02:51):
On.

Speaker 5 (01:02:52):
Community.

Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
On Community. Yeah. Which John and I don't watch.

Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
Right, which we've never watched, but we spent so much
money on trying to put this song out.

Speaker 1 (01:03:03):
We were like.

Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
No, we got a real producer. We laid it down.
I can't believe we never put it out. I mean,
now we'd have to pay for the fucking rights to it,
but it was good.

Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
Yeah, it was. Anyway, so yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
Someone's thinking of me.

Speaker 9 (01:03:18):
Even if some of you guys use the end of
this episode, it's great. It fits so well, the old 97.

Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
I think Bill sort of implied, you know, you weren't...
on the call earlier, Chris, but Bill, we had Bill
Lawrence was interrupted and he, he sort of implied that
they sort of wrote to the song. I mean, which

(01:03:45):
was interesting because he, I think they liked the song
so much. They sort of made the moment around the song,
which is.

Speaker 9 (01:03:51):
Kind of cool.

Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
Shay, Zach, do you guys ever do that? Do you
guys ever write to music?

Speaker 2 (01:03:57):
You mean have music on?

Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
Like a song puts you in a field. And you're like, yo,
let me get this.

Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
You go first, Shay, and then I'll go.

Speaker 3 (01:04:05):
Yeah, I actually did like a little thing a couple
of months ago where I wanted to write this short story,
but I only wanted to listen to one album while
I wrote the story. And I just played this album
on repeat over and over and over again, hoping something
cool would happen. It was like a Duke Ellington album.
But yeah, I always have music playing when I'm writing.

(01:04:26):
It's never anything with words, though. It's always got to
be something with that.

Speaker 5 (01:04:28):
Otherwise, I get too distracted.

Speaker 2 (01:04:29):
I agree. I agree with that. When I've tried ever
to have words I can't write. But there's times when
I want to set a mood or a vibe for
something I'm writing. I'll choose sometimes classical or in the
screenplay I'm working on now. It's funny. It kind of
just seeped into the movie because I was like, I'm
going to put on some Chopin music. just to kind

(01:04:51):
of like create the vibe, create the vibe with the scene.
And then I fell in love with this piece by
Chopin so much. I was like, well, this obviously has
to be in the score for the scene. So then
I was like writing into the scene on a dingy
record player. This song is playing. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:05:06):
Lyrics.

Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
I agree with Shay. Lyrics would, would be distracting. Chris,
you got another question. Go ahead.

Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
We're going to hang out for a bit. Why don't
you ask?

Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
No, no. He's got one more question and then we're
going to fix his life. Go ahead.

Speaker 9 (01:05:17):
Well, so actually the story, about my engagement, which involves scrubs,
which is why I reached out to Joelle a couple
months ago. So my wife and I have been married for,
it'll be seven years in October. And so she's a
few years older. So I like totally relate to Turk
in these last three episodes. So when I was planning
my engagement, it was going to be our two year

(01:05:38):
anniversary in August and I had their ring and I'm
like super not romantic. I'm just so bad at showing
those kinds of things. And so I was like, how
do I, proposed without being cliche, but with like showing,
you know, a romantic side of me. And so I decided, uh,
that our anniversary was going to be on a Sunday.
And I was like, well, I don't want to propose
like on the Sunday going out to dinner. So my Christmas,

(01:06:01):
that was like very cliche in our two anniversary. I
don't want to do that. So I, and I don't
want to wait till the next day. Cause then she's like, well, shit,
this is over because two years and we're not going anywhere.
And so I decided to do it at midnight. And
so I got off work around nine 30, 10. And
so when I went to her place, I was like, OK,
I have the ring. How do I be spontaneous? And
so me being a dummy like Turk, I hid the

(01:06:24):
ring in her medicine cabinet. And my thought processes was
I'm going to ask her for some Tylenol at some
point because I have a headache. I'm going to make
this excuse up. That way she can get me Tylenol
at midnight. She'll see and be like, oh, wow, he's
the best person ever. I'm going to marry him. And
so what we do, because Scrubs was our show back then.
This is 2013. And so I timed it about four

(01:06:48):
episodes after the fourth episode. It'd be time to get
the ring. And so we're watching Scrubs. And then it's
like 1130. So we're almost finishing up an episode. And
she goes to the bathroom. She gets up to go
to the bathroom. And I'm like, yo, what are you doing?
And this is her place, by the way. I'm like, yo,
what are you doing? She's like, I have to go
to the bathroom. I have a hangnail. I'm going to
get the clippers. And I was like, no, no. You

(01:07:09):
can't get up there in scrubs. That's a rule. How
dare you? You have to finish the show. And she's like, what?
And I was like, you can't go to the bathroom.
You have to finish the show. You have to sit down.
And so she gives me this pissy look, and she
goes and sits down. And so in my head, this
is why I'm like, Kirk, I'm like, how do I?
She's not going to see the ring, because she's going
to be focused on where the nail clippers are, which

(01:07:31):
is different than where the medicine's at. And so I
get up and go to the bathroom during the episode.
And I moved the ring to where her nail clippers are,
thinking that I'm the genius. Like, I got this. This
is easy. And so not knowing that, I just told
her she couldn't go to the bathroom when I did
the same thing. So I come back, sit down, like,

(01:07:52):
all right, I'm good. 10 more minutes of episode. And
then an episode ends. And I'm like, all right, showtime.
We're going to do this. And I say, hey. Um,
you can go get the nail clippers now. And she
was like, no, fuck you. I bit off my nail.
I don't need to go to the bathroom anymore. So
I'm like, oh shit. Now my plan screwed up again.

(01:08:12):
And so I go, how do I, how do I
troubleshoot this? So the genius that I am, you.

Speaker 4 (01:08:18):
Turn this into something that did not have to be.

Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
It would have been funny if she was like, I
don't need nail clippers anymore, but now I got a headache.

Speaker 9 (01:08:27):
And so I said I also have a hangnail can
you get me the nail clippers and she like looked
at me for like 10 seconds like are you serious
like you need me to get that for you and
I was like can you please get them and then
she gets up goes to the bathroom sees the nail

(01:08:48):
clippers she freaks out and like flams the mirror real
quick she doesn't realize what's happening and then she opens
it and I'm like hey Can you come out of
the bathroom? Because I don't want to propose in the bathroom.
That's a weird spot to propose. Can you bring it?
out of the bathroom and then i propose.

Speaker 4 (01:09:02):
Dude you're so lucky you're so lucky that the handmaid's
tale wasn't out.

Speaker 5 (01:09:06):
Yet i know i'm just.

Speaker 9 (01:09:11):
So lucky like that's how our side of the trick
is like in the wine glass and in the coffee mug.
I'm like, I get this. It's stressful. It is a
very stressful moment.

Speaker 2 (01:09:23):
I love that you were like, no one gets up
during Scrubs. What the hell are you doing? This is
a Scrubs episode playing.

Speaker 9 (01:09:28):
It's the rule.

Speaker 2 (01:09:30):
Well, she said yes, I take it. So congratulations.

Speaker 5 (01:09:32):
How long have you guys been married for?

Speaker 9 (01:09:34):
It'll be seven years in October.

Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
It'd been really funny if she ended up saying no.
That's the end of the story. She actually said no
after that.

Speaker 2 (01:09:44):
She said no, and my life has been horrible ever since. Chris.

Speaker 1 (01:09:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:09:58):
First of all, Chris, welcome to the segment of the
program where we fix your life.

Speaker 9 (01:10:06):
I'm so excited.

Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
All right. We're ready to fix your life. Now the problem, uh, uh,
you have Chris could be huge or it could be tiny.
It could be as tiny as, do you guys know
how to, uh, you know, fix a broken light switch
or it could be as big as help me. No,
tell my wife.

Speaker 1 (01:10:25):
Dude, fixing a broken light switch is very difficult.

Speaker 2 (01:10:30):
I think between, I think between all of us, Daniel
probably knows how to do it. Well, I'm saying it
could be minimal or it could be enormous. We can
solve it and we're going to fix it. And we
have Shay here who's way smarter than all of us
and he'll help.

Speaker 5 (01:10:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:10:42):
There's a lot of brain power here. I feel that.

Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
Yeah, yeah. Well, this is what's called a free fix-it session.

Speaker 9 (01:10:49):
Yeah, I wrote down a question.

Speaker 1 (01:10:50):
I'm ready.

Speaker 9 (01:10:51):
So my question is when I'm making a burger, whether
it's veggie or non-veggie, where do you put the sauce
and all like the lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles?

Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:11:02):
Put it on top of the burger, or do you
put it on the bottom of the burger?

Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
Well, I'm going to tell you, Chris.

Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
Donald is quite a grillman, so he's going to go.

Speaker 1 (01:11:11):
Wait, hold up.

Speaker 4 (01:11:12):
I do like to grill, but I'm going to tell
you something.

Speaker 1 (01:11:16):
I'm not the person to ask for this.

Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
I think me personally, I fuck up burgers all the time,
so I can't help you at this point in time.

Speaker 3 (01:11:29):
Dano?

Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
You seem to know more about burgers than I do.
You honor me.

Speaker 2 (01:11:36):
Why can't we? I want Daniel to answer, but why
can you not answer where to put shit on a cheeseburger?

Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
Because I fuck it up every time. So here's my problem.

Speaker 5 (01:11:44):
There's only like two places to put it.

Speaker 4 (01:11:47):
There are a bunch of places to put it. So
he's asking where you put the sauce. So you could
put the sauce on the bun. You could put the
sauce on the burger or you could put all of
the fixings on top of the burger and then put
the sauce on top of the fixings.

Speaker 1 (01:12:02):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (01:12:03):
I fuck this up every time because what happens is
the way I do it, I forget. There's also, you
could put the sauce on the cheese or under the
cheese like McDonald's does.

Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
All right, all right, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:12:13):
Okay, I'm just saying. I'm just saying.

Speaker 2 (01:12:16):
I'm just saying.

Speaker 1 (01:12:17):
You're asking the wrong person when it comes to burgers.

Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
Now I see why I'm glad you didn't answer. Daniel,
will you have a nice, beautiful, succinct answer, please?

Speaker 11 (01:12:25):
You're very sweet to say so. I think timing is
of the essence when it comes to things like burgers.
I think the longer you let anything sit, the soggier
things will inevitably get. With all that said, take the
top bun, put my ketchup, my mustard, or whatever else
you like, two pickles, and slap that on top of
my burger.

Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
You don't put lettuce and tomatoes and stuff on your burger?

Speaker 11 (01:12:45):
Lettuce and tomato come in between. So I would say
in that case, the bun... with the sauce on it, ketchup, mustard,
and then pickles. And then I'll put, you know, the
tomato or the tomatoes and lettuce on the actual patty.

Speaker 2 (01:12:58):
And then. But I think it's controversial to put zero
sauce on the bottom bun. I like to give the
bottom bun a little love as well.

Speaker 1 (01:13:09):
Anybody else?

Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
I do.

Speaker 5 (01:13:11):
I do not. I'm with Dan on this one.

Speaker 3 (01:13:13):
This is like, you know, the, the sauce is supposed
to be a, an accent and that's too close to
my tongue.

Speaker 5 (01:13:19):
If it's on the bottom. I need to protect it
a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:13:22):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:13:23):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:13:23):
Joelle. There you go.

Speaker 1 (01:13:24):
Wait, hold up. It's all going in my mouth. I
don't understand.

Speaker 2 (01:13:30):
I think that would be a good t-shirt. Joelle, it's
all going in my mouth.

Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
All right, Chris. I think it's safe to say we
have successfully fixed your life.

Speaker 1 (01:13:42):
You're welcome, Chris. Chris, you're welcome.

Speaker 2 (01:13:45):
You're welcome.

Speaker 1 (01:13:46):
Thank you.

Speaker 9 (01:13:48):
I have a recommendation, actually, if that's okay for Donald.

Speaker 2 (01:13:50):
Yes, go ahead.

Speaker 8 (01:13:51):
Absolutely.

Speaker 9 (01:13:52):
I don't know how much, Donald, do you listen to
podcasts at all besides your own?

Speaker 1 (01:13:56):
I don't.

Speaker 6 (01:13:56):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:13:57):
I don't, no. But if you have a recommendation, please.

Speaker 9 (01:14:00):
I do. It's kind of a segue from Shea. Shea
does a podcast with Jason Concepcion at The Ringer. And
Jason Concepcion does a podcast called Binge Mode, Donald, which
they do arcing huge pop culture stories like they do
Game of Thrones films. Harry Potter, but they have a

(01:14:20):
Harry Potter, excuse me, a Star Wars season that you,
I know, would love. They do, like, deep dives into
episodes and interviews and stuff. So that's my recommendation. And
I'm sure.

Speaker 1 (01:14:29):
Chris, whenever I... Chris, whenever I.

Speaker 2 (01:14:31):
Chris, whenever I try and recommend things to Donald, because
I know his passions, he ignores them. And I hope
that he will take you up on it. But I'm
the guy who's, like, scrolling through my phone because I'm
bored and I stumble across, like, A Death Star fire pit.
And I'm like, oh, my God. Donald needs to get

(01:14:52):
this Death Star fire pit. Doesn't reply. Doesn't buy it.
Doesn't even say.

Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
There's nothing practical about a Death Star fire pit in
my fucking backyard, dude.

Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
My kids could fall into.

Speaker 1 (01:15:06):
The Death Star. There's so many things that could go
wrong with a Death Star fire pit.

Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
I'm just saying that I'm sad that you don't try
out my recommendations.

Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
Why is it getting so dark where you are, bud?

Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
I got to hit the light switch. I got to
hit the light switch. All right, Chris, thank you so
much for coming on, brother.

Speaker 1 (01:15:24):
Chris, you've been a great guest, man.

Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
Chris, you were a great guest. And you make me
want to wear, I don't really know the music of Selena,
but I feel like I would look cool wearing a
Selena t-shirt.

Speaker 1 (01:15:33):
Dodge that heat, yo. If you get the chance, dodge
that heat. Do what you can.

Speaker 9 (01:15:38):
I'm trying, yo. I'm trying. Yeah, man.

Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
Take care, Chris.

Speaker 9 (01:15:41):
Well, thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (01:15:43):
I want to talk about something. Andy and Sean.

Speaker 4 (01:15:47):
Are in the group of doctors that Cox invites over
for drinks and wings and sports on TV.

Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
Yes. So for those of you who, I'm about to
say for those of you who don't know, you couldn't know,
when they cut to Zeltser, when Cox is trying to
invite his friends over and Zeltser asks if there'll be
prostitutes and someone says no and he goes, oh. Good.
The two men who are next to him are our
gaffer and our key grip. The gaffer is in charge

(01:16:17):
of all the lighting and the key grip is in
charge of everything, all the gear and so many things.
So the two sort of very high crew people on
the set were a side-by-side Zeltser, the people that Johnny C.
was asking to come over.

Speaker 7 (01:16:35):
Also.

Speaker 4 (01:16:37):
Johnny Castle's great in this episode. We never really give
shout-outs to Johnny Castle, who plays Doug on the show.

Speaker 2 (01:16:42):
I know. I've had a couple fans asking for Johnny
to have Johnny Castle on. We should do that.

Speaker 1 (01:16:47):
He does such a great job on the show. And
the crazy thing.

Speaker 4 (01:16:50):
About the character, the character's so fucking annoying, dude. I'm
not gonna lie. Like Cox, he annoys the shit out
of me. But his arc at the end... is so
amazing and works so well. Like all of these fuck
ups and all, like Johnny Castle's gonna start.

Speaker 1 (01:17:07):
To lose patient after patient after patient. Each one of
his patients is gonna die. They move him to the morgue.
But his arc at the end of it all It's
so worth it.

Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
I think Johnny Castle eventually killed so many people, they
were like, why don't you work in the morgue?

Speaker 1 (01:17:24):
Yeah, yeah. But his character arc is so great, and
he becomes so confident at his job when it turns
into what it's going to turn into. I don't want
to spoil it for anybody, but he becomes so confident
that this.

Speaker 4 (01:17:41):
Annoying, nervous guy that pops up in... a few episodes
a season, when he gets to shine, he shines. And
so I'm really excited for that. I'm waiting for that.
I know it's going to take a couple of seasons,
but I'm waiting for it and I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (01:17:57):
What do you think about Nurse Roberts' whole gossip run montage?
That was funny.

Speaker 4 (01:18:02):
That shit was hilarious, dude. Her jumping over the freaking
dude on the... She's OJ all of a sudden. She
turns into OJ.

Speaker 2 (01:18:08):
She's like OJ in a Hertz commercial. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:18:11):
How did that happen? And then....

Speaker 4 (01:18:16):
What surprised me, and I want to ask you guys
about this, did it throw you off that J.D. was
still allowed to have fantasies even though he wasn't telling
the story?

Speaker 1 (01:18:25):
I don't think he does. He does. He's at dinner
with Turk. They're eating at the restaurant, wherever it is.
He has a fantasy.

Speaker 4 (01:18:34):
I think it's his fantasy of Cox hitting dude over
the back with the chair. and all of that stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:18:41):
That's a good question, and Shay might know better than
we do, but I always assume that when the person
took over the voiceover, they took over the fantasy too
but i don't recall do you remember that shay if
that's true.

Speaker 3 (01:18:52):
Or not uh it's not exclusive to to uh being
the narrator of the show.

Speaker 4 (01:18:58):
No right because other people do have fantasies yeah i
was just wondering if it threw anybody off because when
i was watching it i.

Speaker 2 (01:19:04):
Was like i assume that Oh, so you're saying that
was J.D. 's fantasy, not Cox's fantasy. Yeah, because J.D.
's talking about it.

Speaker 1 (01:19:12):
Absolutely. But I will say this.

Speaker 4 (01:19:15):
We all have fantasies on the show at some point,
and you're doing the monologue still.

Speaker 1 (01:19:19):
You're still doing the narration.

Speaker 2 (01:19:20):
Yeah. Yeah, it's funny. And there's a little funny thing
in that fantasy with Johnny C. And this is the
first episode with Johnny, the tackling Alzheimer's patient, who was
our sort of senior stunt coordinator, Ernie. and Ernie is
in the segment where Johnny also, not only does he

(01:19:42):
play the tackling Alzheimer's patient, but he's in the segment
where Johnny is hitting people with the chair. He's the
next guy over, which made me think there's probably another,
he probably nailed him too, and they cut it out,
because why would Ernie be sitting there? I don't know.
You know what I'm talking about? He nails the first guy. Yeah, no,
he's sitting right next to the... He's obviously a stuntman.
And then Ernie kind of begins to wince, and I'm like,

(01:20:04):
they must have cut out him nailing Ernie as well.

Speaker 1 (01:20:06):
Here's another thing that I noticed.

Speaker 6 (01:20:08):
What?

Speaker 4 (01:20:09):
And I want to give a shout-out to all of
our extras that were on the show.

Speaker 2 (01:20:13):
We call them background performers now, Donald.

Speaker 4 (01:20:15):
My point is, shout-out to all of the background performers
because not only are some of them doctors in the hospital,
but some of them are patrons at restaurants when you're
watching this episode, I noticed. I noticed that a lot
of them are sitting behind... us when we're eating dinner.

Speaker 2 (01:20:37):
But what's your shout out to them? They were able
to not only be people at hospital, you guys, they
were able to be.

Speaker 1 (01:20:45):
People at restaurants.

Speaker 4 (01:20:47):
No, my shout out to them is that we had
a bunch of people that really worked hard to be
seen on our show and create characters. And sometimes they
were asked to do things that didn't fit.

Speaker 1 (01:21:00):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (01:21:01):
Like continuity, when it comes to our background, It gets
better as time goes, but in the beginning, everybody was
trying to get in where they fit in, and this
is one of those episodes where I recognize, oh, wow,
what is she doing in the background here when she
was just in the background at the hospital with the
lab coat on?

Speaker 2 (01:21:18):
The funny thing is that our go-to regular background performers,
I think we're very aware of where to find the
camera because Snoop Dogg's in the back of a lot
of shots of this episode. I saw Colonel Doctor. I
saw Beard Fosseh. I think a lot of the greatest
hits just knew where to go. They were like, I

(01:21:38):
see where the camera is and my character will be
crossing to that whiteboard.

Speaker 6 (01:21:42):
Are you guys ready for Bill's final thoughts?

Speaker 2 (01:21:46):
Oh, God. Okay, Bill.

Speaker 8 (01:21:49):
All right. Another interrupting Bill segment. No warning whatsoever. Don't
know if there's music.

Speaker 1 (01:21:54):
I'm okay if there is.

Speaker 8 (01:21:55):
I told Dan or Joelle to interrupt you guys when
it becomes clear that Shea Serrano is who is a
big Scrubs fan and an amazing writer, knows more about
the show than you two, because I am interested because
so many Scrubs viewers actually do rewatches and stuff. And
be honest, Shay, whether or not you've actually watched the

(01:22:17):
whole series more than once, I'm betting there's no way
you watched it more than two or three times, but
Some people said you might have even watched it.

Speaker 5 (01:22:27):
Five, six, seven, eight.

Speaker 2 (01:22:28):
No, no, no, no, no, no. Hold on, hold on.
Hold on, hold on. Turn it off.

Speaker 1 (01:22:33):
Turn that shit off, Daniel.

Speaker 2 (01:22:35):
Turn that shit off.

Speaker 1 (01:22:37):
No, no, no.

Speaker 2 (01:22:39):
He said he was going to stop doing it.

Speaker 1 (01:22:42):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:22:43):
He's disrespectful to the hosts.

Speaker 1 (01:22:48):
That was very, that was clever. Oh, clever, Bill.

Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
You know, I was on a call with Bill and
we were talking about something else and he's like, it
was very sweet. He was like, I really got to
come up with a new thing for, I know the
audience loves 5, 6, 7, 8, but I want to
shake it up. I'm going to come up with a
new bit for season two. Cut to.

Speaker 9 (01:23:09):
Right.

Speaker 5 (01:23:09):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:23:10):
So I got a question for you. Dude, do you
not know any Kung Fu moves?

Speaker 5 (01:23:15):
I don't know who you are. Are you talking to me?

Speaker 1 (01:23:17):
I'm talking to Zach.

Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
You say it about me because when I go, everybody goes,
Kung Fu fighting.

Speaker 5 (01:23:22):
Then you start humping the air.

Speaker 1 (01:23:24):
Then you hump the air. Like you're fucking the air.

Speaker 3 (01:23:30):
That's a Kung Fu move. It's in the Legend of
the Drunken Master.

Speaker 2 (01:23:33):
Jackie Chan does it. Jackie, you don't know me.

Speaker 1 (01:23:36):
So I'm clear.

Speaker 5 (01:23:36):
Wait, hold on.

Speaker 1 (01:23:39):
Shay, so I'm clear. Jackie Chan fucks the air.

Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
Yeah, you don't know fuck the air? No, I don't
know fuck the air. I don't know that form.

Speaker 1 (01:23:47):
I don't know that form.

Speaker 2 (01:23:48):
That was a deleted scene from Karate Kid. Daniel-san, fuck
the air. Fuck the air. It was right after paint
the fence.

Speaker 3 (01:23:59):
That's a really sweet moment in the show when the
therapist is telling Dr. Cox, if you have somebody in
your life who can get you to do something, that
that's a special person.

Speaker 5 (01:24:08):
And then they cut to, we see JD.

Speaker 3 (01:24:10):
I really like when, when they tee it up like that,
when we gets it, whenever like somebody is saying a
nice thing about somebody else, but they're not hearing them
say it.

Speaker 5 (01:24:18):
I just, it's, it's really, really great.

Speaker 3 (01:24:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:24:21):
Well, they cut to Zach and Zach fucks the air.

Speaker 1 (01:24:23):
And then the janitor drops in from the ceiling.

Speaker 2 (01:24:26):
You don't, um, you don't fuck the air when you dance.

Speaker 4 (01:24:30):

Hold on.

Speaker 1 (01:24:35):
You're doing a theme dance, first of all.

Speaker 2 (01:24:37):
Right. My character wasn't so focused on Kung Fu as
he was about doing his best dance moves. He's alone
in an elevator. You know that expression, dance like no
one's watching? He was alone in an elevator, and he
knew no one was watching, and it was time to
fucking get his groove on.

Speaker 5 (01:24:52):
That's his default move.

Speaker 2 (01:24:55):
Yeah, it's probably my default move, too. I just do
a little.

Speaker 1 (01:24:58):
So let me get this straight. Go ahead. When Kung
Fu fighting comes on, And it gets to the... Let
me get back to the right key. I'm supposed to
fuck the air?

Speaker 2 (01:25:13):
I would recommend it, yeah. It feels nice.

Speaker 4 (01:25:16):
So then why all the hand gestures like you were
about to do kung fu fighting and then fuck the air?

Speaker 2 (01:25:20):
Dude, I'm just being my wacky self, okay? Someone said, Zach...
I'm sure Ken Winningham, the director of this episode, said, Zach,
come up with some funny-ass weird dance move. Do you
want to know a funny story, though, speaking about Fuck
in the Air? I remember being a little kid, and
I didn't even know. What a pivot.

Speaker 5 (01:25:38):
What a pivot.

Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
I didn't even know. I didn't. This is embarrassing, but
this is how much I love you, our listeners, and
I'm going to tell you another embarrassing story about me.
I didn't even know. I was too young to even
know about masturbation or really what sex was. I think
I just knew that the man and the woman got
in bed together and lied on top of each other.

(01:25:59):
And I was already of an age where that was
titillating to me, but I didn't really know much more
than that. And I remember building a pillow woman in
my bed. And I was, I don't know how, I
must have been like, I don't know how old. I'm
going to guess six or seven.

Speaker 1 (01:26:17):
Oh, my God. I don't think my kids have any
idea what fucking is.

Speaker 2 (01:26:21):
No, but I'm saying I didn't know about it. I
didn't know about the act. I just knew that I
imagined that they lie on top of each other and
make out and the baby gets made. I'm saying it
was that innocent. But I remember coming into my, and
I literally laid out the pillows like it was a
woman in bed. And then I came into my room
and yawned like, oh, hard day at work, honey. And

(01:26:41):
I took off my clothes and I got into bed
and I laid on top of the pillow woman.

Speaker 1 (01:26:49):
And did she, nine months later, did she have a baby?

Speaker 2 (01:26:51):
Yes. Pillow baby. That's how I had a pillow baby.
But it's funny. I'm just thinking that there was some,
I think I had a pillow girlfriend named Katya in
this show. There was some joke. There was some joke like,
as I lay on top of my pillow girlfriend, Katya.

Speaker 5 (01:27:08):
Yeah, that's a thing.

Speaker 3 (01:27:10):
When you walked in the room and you were like
spending time with your pillow wife. Did you say we
need some romantic music right now and then kung fu
fighting is what you did?

Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
I just remember that in my however year old brain,
I thought the first step to making love to your
wife is to yawn and say, I've had such a
hard day.

Speaker 1 (01:27:34):
That never works. That never works.

Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
Oh, you've tried it? You've tried it?

Speaker 4 (01:27:37):
Everybody tries that shit. Oh, baby, you wouldn't be, oh,
I had such a hard day today. I have so
much stress. The ideal thing to happen is, you know,
for things to happen after that. Usually you say that
shit and they're like, you know, so did I.

Speaker 1 (01:27:54):
Fucking kids were a pain in the ass today.

Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
Anyway. Let's talk about the ending, though, because I thought
the ending definitely gave me goosebumps and I thought it
was very romantic and sweet that you run to the park.
You're still doing your weird run that nobody runs like that,
but Okay, I'll accept it.

Speaker 1 (01:28:14):
You're a hater of all haters. No, why does Turk.

Speaker 2 (01:28:17):
Run like a cartoon character?

Speaker 1 (01:28:19):
Every action star has a specific run.

Speaker 5 (01:28:22):
That's true.

Speaker 1 (01:28:24):
Thank you, Shay. You want to see crazy runs, look
at how Harrison Ford runs. Look at how The Rock runs.

Speaker 5 (01:28:30):
Tom Cruise.

Speaker 4 (01:28:31):
Tom Cruise runs. Every action star has a run. If
I were to run like everybody else, you know what?
It would be not considered unique. Just like every fucking
leading man has a fucking walk.

Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
Okay, so this is your signature walk.

Speaker 1 (01:28:49):
No, this is my signature run.

Speaker 4 (01:28:52):
And I'll beat your ass in a race any day, motherfucker.

Speaker 2 (01:28:56):
There it is. I think currently I might be able
to beat you in a race. Currently.

Speaker 1 (01:29:00):
We could go whenever you're ready. Whenever you're ready.

Speaker 2 (01:29:01):
I'm ready. I'm ready. Anyway, I thought it was very sweet.
The song is beautiful. And then they reveal JD running
around with the sparklers. And I just thought it was romantic.

Speaker 1 (01:29:12):
It was very romantic. I love the song.

Speaker 5 (01:29:15):
Can I ask two questions?

Speaker 1 (01:29:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:29:17):
One of which is directly related to the episode, but
one of them is tangentially related. When Turk is at
the bus stop eating the chili dog, he wasn't expecting
for that waitress to show up, right? Because she shows
up and he's like, oh, what are you doing here?
He just hangs out at a bus stop eating chili dogs.

Speaker 2 (01:29:35):
Why is Turk at a bus stop eating a chili dog?

Speaker 1 (01:29:37):
I don't know. Well, you have Malik, obviously.

Speaker 2 (01:29:42):
I obviously have Malik, but we never have established in
the history of Scrubs or again that Turk rides the bus.

Speaker 3 (01:29:49):
No. No.

Speaker 4 (01:29:51):
I don't... That's one of those things that's just convenient
to make it so.

Speaker 1 (01:29:56):
And, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:29:57):
He needs to run into her somewhere? I can just
picture the writer's room. Like, where is Turk going to
run into the diner waitress?

Speaker 1 (01:30:05):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:30:06):
At the bus stop. Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:30:08):
And why does he have a chili dog also?

Speaker 5 (01:30:09):
Where's the chili dog from? I have no idea.

Speaker 9 (01:30:11):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:30:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:30:13):
There's a James Coney Island somewhere nearby. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:30:18):
The other question that I have is... you mentioned the running.
Turk is running through the park to get to Carla.
And I wondered on this most recent we watched, like
that happens and then there's an episode later on that
you guys will eventually get to where Turk, he's like having,
not a crisis of faith, but there's very, it's like
a religious episode and he ends up running through the

(01:30:40):
park to get to a person who needs help and
he feels like it was Oh.

Speaker 1 (01:30:43):
We did that episode already.

Speaker 2 (01:30:44):
We happened already. That was season one. Yeah, you of
all people should know.

Speaker 5 (01:30:50):
Is this a.

Speaker 3 (01:30:52):
Metaphor for a thing, or is this just a coincidence
that this happened?

Speaker 5 (01:30:58):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
I think Donald's run is so weird that everyone was like,
let's see him run.

Speaker 5 (01:31:02):
Let's keep setting it up.

Speaker 1 (01:31:04):
I don't know. That's a really good question. What is.
Why is Turk always running someplace?

Speaker 2 (01:31:10):
Well, no, I think it's not that deep. I think
it's dramatic at the end of a show to see someone,
I mean, how many fucking romantic comedies end with someone
running to get to the person? I mean, it's dramatic.

Speaker 4 (01:31:20):
Well, yeah, when Harry Met Sally has a great one
where it's New Year's Eve and he runs up to
her to tell her that he's, I imagine that's where
they're trying to take it, where they're trying to get
it from. There's so many movies where at the end
of the movie when the guy realizes that he's needs to,

(01:31:40):
or the woman realizes that they need to be together,
somebody has to run to the other one's arms.

Speaker 1 (01:31:46):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 5 (01:31:49):
That's all. I was curious about that.

Speaker 1 (01:31:51):
I wondered that too. Hey, so we did it, guys.

Speaker 2 (01:31:54):
We did it. We did it. We did it. Shay,
remind everybody, for those of you who missed the previous
episode with Shay, shame on you. He self-published an amazing
book of essays on scrubs. And not only is he
an incredible writer, but he's very knowledgeable about scrubs and

(01:32:14):
they're beautifully illustrated. And we really highly recommend you get
them because if you're a scrubs fan, and I imagine
you are, if you're listening to this, you're really going
to love this. Shay, remind everyone where to get it.

Speaker 3 (01:32:25):
You can get it at a website, sacredheartgang.com. And it'll
take you right to it.

Speaker 2 (01:32:31):
Sacredheartgang.com. He's also written lots of other books and he's
a really cool guy. Tell everyone how to follow you
on Twitter. Is it at Shea Serrano? There it is. Boom.
Just spell it for people that can't spell.

Speaker 5 (01:32:45):
S-H-E-A-S-E-R-R-A-N-O.

Speaker 2 (01:32:49):
Follow Shea. If you're into Twitter, which is the hellscape
of the entire Earth, but if you're into it and
addicted to it, Shea is a great follow. And thank you, guys.
This was a really good show, and I miss you.
I miss you all.

Speaker 1 (01:33:06):
I miss you too, man.

Speaker 4 (01:33:07):
You know, I thought that we could end today's show
with my brother Olamide's music.

Speaker 1 (01:33:11):
Yeah, let's do it.

Speaker 2 (01:33:12):
Let's do it. Tell us about Olamide, Donald.

Speaker 4 (01:33:14):
So Olamide was in a band back in the day
called Imagine, and they had a couple of hits on
the radio, and they did well, and they broke up
at a really young age, and now he's making his
own music, and- You know, you can find him on Spotify.
You can find him on iTunes, wherever.

Speaker 1 (01:33:32):
You can find music.

Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
Tell everyone how to spell his name because it's a
little tricky.

Speaker 1 (01:33:36):
It is a little tricky, actually.

Speaker 4 (01:33:37):
It's O-L-A-M-I-D-E Olamide Faison, my last name. And we're going
to start. We're going to end the show with one
of his songs. It's called Hey There, Love. And I
want to thank Joelle. I want to thank Shea for
being on the show today. I want to thank Daniel
for being the awesome dude that he is. For all

(01:34:00):
of those guys, Zach Braff and myself, this is Olamide
with Hey There Love.

Speaker 10 (01:34:05):
Think again, baby, think again Thought I wasn't quite your
type And would it last me long that night well

(01:34:30):
I guess love had a different plan cause here we
are look at where we stand hey there love how
did we end up at the altar after all the
things that we've been through hey there love look how

(01:34:51):
we turned out who said happily ever after would never
be found Hate that love Hate that love Mistakes are

(01:35:16):
made in life But somehow things turn out fine To
think we had our doubts Only to find We can
live without each other.

Speaker 6 (01:35:32):
Love has special ways to shine its light through darkened skies.
When it's real, everything just feels right. Look at you
and I. We gave us a try, try, try. Hey there, love.
How did we end up at the altar after all

(01:35:56):
the things that we've been through? Hey there, love. Look
how we turned out. Who said happily ever after would
never be found?

Speaker 1 (01:36:07):
Hey there, love. Hey there, love.
