Breanna Stewart and Myles Turner break down the NBA Finals and explain what it's really like to compete for a championship when the pressure, fatigue, and expectations are at their highest. They discuss the mental and physical challenges facing the Spurs, why closing games becomes so difficult this time of year, and who Myles believes should be the favorite for Finals MVP.

The two also talk about the New York Liberty's four-game win streak, and why Stewie had to get a little angry during the team's latest game against the Indiana Fever.

Plus, Stewie's Parent Corner returns, and Myles introduces another lesson from outside the basketball world.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
I mean like, as a player, you have these moments
where you get mad and you just can't hold it
in anymore. And I basically got to that moment. We
were down twelve, like halfway through the third and I
was kind of like, well, what are we doing?

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Welcome to game, recognized game. I'm Miles Turned with my
co host Breonna Stewart. We've been rolling to it. We're
not gonna lie. This is starting to get a little
more fun, a little easier what you've been thinking that
what you got going to you going on in your world?

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Oh, I mean, definitely getting a little bit easier. I
feel like we're getting on this more of a weekly thing.
We're getting we're penciling this in on our schedule. Is
a little bit better. But my world, we just finished
our homes our home stand. We lost the first three,
as you know, but we won the last four and
now on the road and trying to get some road

(00:58):
winds in the Commissioner Cup, which is are your version
of the NBA Cup, right and.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Season tournament type of thing. Yeah, yeah, so man, I'm rolling,
Bro'm as you know, I'm about to get up out
of here. I'm about to go to the Players, the
Players Association. I'll go over there to Morocco for a
little bit and that's gonna be fun, you know, doing
like a kind of business alternate things like impact investing
classes and courses and whatnot, and just you know, kind
of just trying to do off the court stuff. And

(01:26):
then yeah, man, I'm gonna take a nice month off
of Europe. So it's gonna be a lot of fun. You know,
I've been out there in a little while and I
love immersed myself in different cultures. You know, It's just
one of the things I've really become accustomed to, you know,
with basketball. So I'm excited for you man, I got
some big stuff playing.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
So what is it like it's like they have Like
is it like the NBA Sanctuary thing that I've seen,
Like I saw a picture of one in Spain, like
that type of thing.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, so the Sanctuary is like its own kind of
separate deal. Basically, players will go out there and literally
just go to work out and they can literally just
to be and I guess the PAS like sanctioned like
a little spot out there. I mean, they take great
care of you, like they put you up in nice,
nice resorts. Or whatnot. You can kind of go explore
around Europe, but then they try to get the guys together.

(02:13):
It's like for Caroader, you know, go work out and stuff.
This one's a little bit different. Like I went with
the Players Association like three or four years ago to
Milan and we did like some of the fashion week stuff, right,
And they took us to like a Batona University I believe,
and like we literally sat in there with like a
few CEOs and CEO of Off White was there. I think,
like Georgia OLMANI like, you know, I got a chance

(02:34):
to meet him, and a lot of our money's executives
are there and they literally just like put on like
PowerPoint you know, presentation for us and whatnot, like just
kind of get into the fashion, using your fashion for
your brand and stuff like that. You know. I think
the NBA does a good job of, you know, kind
of trying to help the players out with stuff just
outside of hoops, and it's kind of cool you can
do it like different destinations.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
So yeah, yeah, definitely, it's like a great start to
your your vacation trip.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Mm hmm, man, what's what's the city right now? I
know you're on the road. But I know you've been
around and you know the Knicks have been rolling, havn't
lost the game, and where I think they want like
we like thirteen fourteen straight or something like that. Like
what's what's the city? Like, Man, I know it's buzzy.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
New York right now is crazy, Like it's literally nuts.
Aside from like the next gear, everywhere, everybody's wearing it,
everybody's repping it. People are just excited. They can't wait
to be a part of it. They can't wait to
talk about it. After Game two, after that win, there
was like fireworks going off, so like you know, it's
like you're just hear fireworks going nuts, like people are

(03:31):
going crazy, like it's I don't even know, like fourth
of July type shit, and I don't I'm sick because
we're gonna be away for game three in game four
and I really wish we could like be able to
be there and like really feel that. But wishing them
well from Afar for sure.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Yeah, man, there's a again, like when things are right
in the world, when New Yorks winning, I guess you
know the league's happy, you know, obviously they have a
lot of things. It's you know that fly in. I
think the cheapest tickets, like ten thousand dollars is like
to go watch so I mean from red Nuts, Yeah,
I like just from a revenue standpoint, man, I can't
complain because obviously, you know, things are rolling in you know,
for us, and that's a good place to be in.

(04:13):
It's a good state to be in, like media wise too,
with everything there. But with that being said, you know,
finals are rolling and whatnot. I think there's a lot
just to kind of cover there. It is kind of
where we're at, you know, we're heading to Game three.
I think it's sweet tomorrow going into New York. Man.
I just think that there's just a lot of kind
of topics like to kind of go off of, like
what you what's on your mind?

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Yeah, I mean, I guess my first topic would be like,
how can you explain Brunson's success? You know, when you
were with the Paces last year, you guys beat him.
But he went in high school, he's won in college
with Villanova, and now he's on the verge of winning
an NBA championship at six to two and really you know,

(04:54):
leading New York.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Yeah, I've always been a fan of Jalen Brunton's game.
I got a chance to play with him at UH
at the UH at FEBA, at the U eight teams.
He was a he was a class below me. But
he is someone who's always just been a master of angles,
you know what I mean. He had his height, even
had his stature. His center of gravity's real low. Obviously,

(05:17):
you know, he can get to wherever he wants with
his handle or whatnot. But he just reads the floor
really well. Like in today's day and age, like a
pure point guard is so hard to come across. There's
only a few that are left in the league. You know,
if you know, maybe three or four a cana that
there's pure point guards. But you're able to mix that
with someone who's just also a pure scoring threat. Like

(05:38):
that's everything you want, you know, in a floor general.
You know, I think that he's so successful because he
gets to his spots. He's gonna make sure he gets
you know, twenty five to thirty shots a game, and
his team allows him to beat him. There's no one
that's like stepping on his toes. They all their role
players know exactly what they're supposed to do, and they
know that he's the guy. And I think that's a
problem with a lot of NBA teams, is you know

(06:00):
you it's kind of like a an ego thing of
you know who the guy is, who's you know, you know,
who's a solution a solution B And I mean I
think that he knows that he's a solution are at
all time. So I think that he's going to have
a lot of success. I mean he's still young, you know.
I think he's only like twenty nine, maybe thirty years old,
and he's showcasing at the highest level, you know what

(06:23):
he can do. And I think that your girl Becky
Hammond kind of gassed him up a little bit.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Man, I don't know, I know that's that's that's crazy.
But so if if, when, if, and when they win, right,
he's is he the greatest nick ever? He's got to
be nobody ever? I mean the last one is a
woe was like fifty years ago.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Now, Yeah, you know, a champion. You know, if he
had a ring, it obviously puts you up there, and
it makes it very hard to debate. There's just so much,
so much history, I guess in the garden and guys
that helped build like that real like Nick culture, you
know what I mean. Guys don't even talk about like
the Charles Oakley's of the world. You know what I'm saying,
Like he's not the greatest Nake ever, but he's part

(07:07):
of like the culture, you know what I mean. He's
got like that tough nose like thing to put it
out there. You obviously have the Carmelo Anthonys of the world.
Like he didn't get to you know, the heights that
Jayalen Brunton did, but he was, you know, he embodied
that New York culture just because of who he was
and where he was from. Obviously got Patrick Ewings was
read Clive Frasier's or sorry, Watt Fraser. And then hold on,

(07:31):
I'm blanking on one because there's also like a like
a huge one that I'm not naming right now. But anyways,
now to answer your question, I think that Jaylen Brunson,
if he does win a championship, he's got to be
a top three Nick.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Ever.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
I can't just like give him like the nod right away.
But I'm also not a Nicks historian at the end
of the day, so I'm not sure. Alan Houston, Alan
Houston great shooter. Great, Shoot, that's another good one. That's
not thinking Bernard King. There he goes Bernard King. I
don't know why I couldn't think of that, but like
he's obviously, like in my opinion, like one of the
if not like one of the greatest things ever just
because of you know, what he did at his time.
But yeah, I think.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
It's also a tough it's a tough question to ask,
Like I set you up for that one. But like
when people ask those questions, I feel like it's like,
all right, we have to wait until their career is over,
you know what I mean, Like see see the the
trajectory that he continues to evolve on. Yeah, and then
also like does he stay in does he stay in Nick,

(08:25):
He's got to stay in neck.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
But yeah, that's true. I guess, Yeah, I guess money talks.
He took that discount, you know what I mean a
couple of years ago when so they don't take care
of him, you're right.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
I mean also, like let's just talk about this, like, uh,
the Spurs, they they literally got punched in their mouth.
You know, you never want to lose both your home
games when you have home court advantage in the Finals. Yeah,
what do you think their thoughts are going into too?
Game three?

Speaker 1 (08:51):
They're a young team, man, and listen, Like, I think
what the viewers need to realize is, like, you know,
obviously I didn't get the old goal of winning a championship,
but I played in a Game seven of the NBA Finals.
I played as many games as you possibly can. You know,
during the NBA season, these guys are tired, Bro, It's
just kind of what comes with it. And I don't

(09:12):
understand what people people think. I know what I mean
when I say tired. It's not just like I'm sleepy tired.
It's not just like I'm a little fatigued, like mentally, bro,
Mentally emotionally, you're exhausted, bro, like side to side movement.
People don't realize it. Just like basketball is not just
the you know, one dimensional sport where you're sprinting up
down the floor like like sliding latterly and whatnot. You

(09:34):
play on different like linear planes like that takes a
lot out of you, bro, And these guys are banging.
It's a physical series, like it's a It is a
very tiring and exhausting time. You know, I don't care
how young you are. I don't care how shape you are,
I don't care how many monks. You know, Wimby's work with,
Like nothing can prepare you for this time of the year. Man,
Winby's only twenty two years old, you know.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
And that and that fatigue is what leads to late
game mistakes. So that's what led to That's what leads
to that, the bad turnover, you know, things like that,
because you just get lost in it for a second.
But I will say, like the Spurs have been like
incredibly high, you know, after winning the conference finals, and

(10:17):
now they're like incredibly low and they have to find
this like little level set to kind of get themselves
back in it.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
But they were right there, man, they were right there.
It's just part of it, you know, Like you said,
to your point, there one turnover away, you know, one
one mishot at the buzzer away. I mean, obviously a
lot of stuff, you know, leads up to get to
that point. But they made a big ass run at
the end of the game. There was like a fifteen
sixteen oh run. So they're capable. It's just a matter
of putting it all together. But I do admit, like

(10:44):
winning in the gardens gonna be tough, Bro, you can't.
It's dropping two at home put your put you in
a really bad hole. And it's just kind of what
it is now, you know, the backs against the wall,
and now I am about to see what they really made of.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Yeah, yeah, definitely. I mean Cat has done incredibly well
against Wenby. What do you think the key to that
has been just physicality or kyp or what.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Well, there's a couple of things that go into this one.
I've always ever spept co Anthony Towns. You know, we're
the same high school class and we've had a few battles.
And the thing that Kad has done offensively that's opened
up his game so much less. He's passing the shit
out the ball, Bro. He's passing the ball so well.
Like I think he's always been someone who he wanted
to be the primary scorer. He's an outside threat. He
wants to shoot his threes and step backs. He's really

(11:28):
like just answer the call when it came to his role.
You know, he's not trying to do too much. And
I really think that he's been This is his third
conference finals in a row, you know what I mean,
So he has the experience he's finally, you know, gotten
to the finals. I think that one he is, he's
a he's a big fellow man. I think he's being
really physical with Wimby. I think he's attacking him as well.

(11:49):
He's not showing any fear. On the other side, he's
going right through his chest. I think Wimby has a
great offensive skill set. But one thing that's going on
too is thoughing Mitchell Robinson in there is kind of
throwing them off balanced on obviously, you know, Mitch is huge.
You know, he's a he's a great defender. He's someone
who can kind of knock you off, and he knows
his role. He's in there like to get in your
head and Winby's someone I think he's still trying to

(12:10):
figure out his offensive game. You know, he has all
the tools. But the greats, the elites, the guys like
the Jaln Brunston's, he knows his spots on the floor,
you know what I'm saying. And I think Wimby's still
trying to kind of figure out exactly what that is
for himself, because yeah, it's great to hit some jumpers,
but when you are tired, like you got to get
in the paint, and I think that's what he did
so well last series against Okay see, but it's tougher

(12:31):
for him now that paint's clogged up. With the way
the Knicks play defense.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
Yeah, and especially I mean game two. Game two was physical,
like from the jump, they were letting both sides play,
which is what you want in playoff basketball like championship basketball.
But you could tell that it flustered dispersed more than
the next yep.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
I agree, I agree, And I think that's one of
those things where at the beginning of the game you
kind of establish how you're going to play and to
your point, when they're playing Okay, see, it was physical,
but this is a different degree of physical physicality and whatnot.
And I think that the the Knicks are kind of
physical at like every position because you look at someone
like Michel Bridges, like he doesn't look like he has

(13:12):
a frame to be as physical as he is, but
he's a physical defender. He gets in here, he picks up,
he's got really long arms, and he's an X factor
for them too. Man, he's playing at a high level
as well. You know, he hit a lot of shots
last year.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Yeah, I mean, that's that was gonna be. My next
question is, like, who do you think the X factors
have been. I guess it's really for the Knicks in
the past two games.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Yeah, well, I mean a human X factor, A living
example of the X factor is obviously Josh Hart. I
think that he's someone I don't even think he scored
last game, but he gets like the the really big rebounds,
he gets the really big stops. He pushed, He goes
out and transition and pushes like he knows his role
to a t. You know. So I think he's someone
who's always like really big for them. I love Duce McBride.

(13:55):
I love the way he's uh well not only played,
just carried himself, you know why his He's someone who
I think is comes in again, knows his role, makes
bay shots and like, you can't not talk about Landry Shamon,
you know, I think Landry Shammon really came in answered
the call. Man. He's he's hit some big shots. He's
a physical defender and he's more than just a shooter.

(14:16):
You know, that's kind of what you're kind of have
to do, you know at this time of the year.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Yeah, I feel like Landy, he like it's like, uh,
he stepped up big in uh this series against the Calves,
and then he's just like continuing, you know, like once
he got his moment and his opportunity to shine, like
he's he's feeling right back in.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
Yeah. I think for the Spurs, it's so hard to
ask this of a rookie, but you know, Dylan Harper
is playing really well, and when he plays well, like
I feel like the rest of the team plays at
a much higher level. I think Fox hasn't been the
same Fox because of his ankle, you know what I mean.
He's a very explosive athlete. I think when Jalen Brunston
and Fox kinda start talking shit to each other, it

(14:54):
kind of woke Fox up a little bit and he
kind of started going at itself. But like for San
Antonio six, that's what they need Dearn Fox to be
dearn Fox, you know what I mean. At the end
of the day, you know, that's why they're acquired in
the trade, you know, And you know, I really like
Dylan Harper, but at the end of the day, he
is a rookie and there's only so much you can
ask of him at this level. You know, anything you
get is just you know, kind of creaming the crop

(15:15):
at this point, just without Will he's playing m h.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
I mean, if you're the Spurs, right, what's your what's
your adjustment going into game three?

Speaker 1 (15:22):
Like?

Speaker 2 (15:22):
What what are you telling your team? Like, what are
you thinking heading into the locker room before the game?
Getting getting them ready?

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Well for a young team, the very first thing I
would say is like, y'all got to stay off y'all's phones.
Y'all got to say off social media. Bro. You can't
be watching the first Takes, the whatever, the Herds, whatever,
the all these shows. Bro, they're literally paid to talk
about controversy. They they're paid to you know, put out
a product out there and to keep people's attention. And

(15:52):
it's very easily to sit there and take that ship personally,
you know what I mean. You have one bad game,
They're going to talk about you on an hour segment.
That's just how it goes. You're the only show on TV,
and I think these younger guys, like they're so addicted,
you know, to their phones, into instant gratification of like
watching things on TV and feeling their spare time. So
like that's the first thing I would say and say, yo,

(16:12):
just like stay away, don't drink the poison, know, stay
away from it and whatnot. The second thing I'll probably
say is one, you have to forget about the last
two games because we've had two days to pass. That's
the difference between the finals and all these other playoff series.
Another playoff series, it's game off, game off, game off.
Now it's game you're off for two days. Now you've
to sit here and think about what you did for
two days. Yeah, right, Like once you arrive for shoot

(16:35):
around the next day, everything that happened before this, everything
that happened during season, doesn't matter. It's all about the
present moment. As far as like in game adjustments, the
biggest thing I will probably say is that we have
to touch the paint like at least once a possession,
no matter what. Like transition three is cool, let that
shit fly, this is what y'all do. But like offensively,
we have got to try to find a way to
break uh, to break that plane, you know what I mean,

(16:57):
break that free throw line. Because once you get those guys,
so I know I know just from playing against New
York they're really like paint orients team. So like if
you do get into the paint, they overhelp and they're
gonna over commit, and then that's when you start getting
like primitive threes or whatnot, because they're okay giving up
like top of the break threes and everything. You know,
it's a quote unquote zo percent in shot. But that's
when the better shots start to come in is when

(17:18):
you do break that plane and kind of pass the
ball out as opposed to you know, moving the ball
around the horn and never touching the paint. So that
would be my one of my biggest adjustments is like
we have to touch the paint no matter what.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
This game makes sense.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
So Game three predictions, I think that just from my
experience of playing in the garden, the Knicks are gonna
come out amped up. I think the first quarter the
Knicks are gonna have like one of those runs where
you're just gonna be very hard to stop the bleeding.
And another thing I would if I'm you know, if
I'm Johnson or Miss Johnson was first just survived the

(17:52):
first punch, that's nothing. I would tell them it's gonna happen.
You know, every celebrity you can ever think if it's
gonna be front row, every rapper. You listen to every
artist anything, you think it is gonna be sitting right there,
you know, throwing out everything. Spike Lee's gonna be sitting
there talking and ship like, you know, survived that first

(18:13):
punch is the first thing I would probably say. And
I think that's gonna end up being a closer game.
I think the Knicks will probably win in just in
my opinion, but I don't think it's gonna be like
a blowout mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
I think that if the Spurs want a chance at
like getting back in this thing, like, they need to
win game three. If not, it's it's literally a must
win game. If not, it's it's gonna be really really tough.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
You gotta win. I don't thinking the team's ever come
back down three.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
So yeah, all right, you want to give me like
series predictions the finals, MVP, we didn't know where we
were gonna be at and now it's too oh so
we gotta go.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Well, I mean, it's it's gonna be hard to obviously,
depend on how the rest of the games go. It's
gonna be hard to give MVP any but runtson. You know,
if the Knicks win, you mean he's obviously the head
of the snake. He's someone who's two games in a
row just clutch shot after clutch shot, clutch shot. You know,
I just think that there's nobody else that comes close.
I think Carl Towns is obviously playing well, he's having

(19:15):
a good series so far, but you know, it's the
most valuable player, and I think the most valuable player
on the Knicks obviously is Jalen Bruston. Yeah, sweep.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Uh you know what I want to I want to
know after game three. I'll tell you my for real
thing after game three. But if they don't win game three,
it's over. That's what I think.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Oh no, man, I think they might press that buffalo
while wings, but I don't know. We'll see.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Okay, So Miles Miles wants us to stay tuned. I'm
basically who he thinks is winning. I mean, you've gotta
think the Knicks is winning.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Yeah, I mean, well just just from watching and obviously
the Knicks are. The Knicks are obviously in a very
fatable position. I would say that they win right now now,
but I don't think it's gonna be a sweep. I
think that you know, this is it's it's far from over.
But the lights and in and some over there for the.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Next for sure. Well, well you will all stay tuned
to find out. But time for a quick break. Next up,
we'll talk wn B a our huge win at home
over the Fever last night. Please rate, review, and subscribe
to Game Recognized Game with Stullian Miles wherever you get
your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
Welcome back to the Game Recognized Game with Stewie Miles.
We can't hear about the w in the middle of
the NBA Finals, to say the least. You guys had
a really nice win over the Fever last night. And
I actually did see this clip. It's funny that you know,
Peter in the uh and then the rundown, but you
got bad last night, bro. And I feel like, like
just any athlete out there knows that when you get

(21:03):
to that, I don't know, when you get flustered like that,
it can get a lot of people going around you.
So look like you got on your team, you know,
in the middle of the third quarter and it helps you,
guys kind of defend the home court. So talk about
that moment, talk about what's going through your head and
just how it's an advantage for you yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
I mean, you know, like as a player, you have
these moments where you get mad and you just can't
like hold it in anymore. And I basically got to
that moment. We were down twelve, like halfway through the third,
and I was kind of like, well, what the fuck
are we doing? Like we just like messing, We're just
playing around with this team, and like Indiana's obviously a
good and very talented team, but like we weren't putting

(21:38):
ourselves in the best positions to be successful. And that's
what was most frustrating to me, is like, you know,
we talk about the things that we want to do.
We want to we need to know where we want
to get the ball, we want to know the matchups
that we want to pick on, and there was like
a level of emphasis and focus that wasn't happening. So
really wanting to get everybody to kind of lock back
into that was most important.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
To that point. You know, I think aviously, you being
one of the team leaders and one of the more
you know, you know, seasoned players in that team, when
they see you get to that point, it's kind of
like a oh shit, you know what I mean, because
I feel like, yeah, players get mad. You know, players
like you know get to that point, but when one
of the leaders, you know, show some real emotion, everybody
else has to fall back in line. And you've been

(22:21):
that young player before, you know, watching like your vets
or you know, maybe like Sue or somebody like that
get upset. Like you know, I talk about that, like
being like one of the leaders and like just kind
of ringing everybody together in that moment.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Yeah, it's you know, it's important. It's important to everybody,
like to to kind of feel the pressure and feel
with that stake. I think that, you know, my thoughts
were obviously wanting to win this game, but we want
to finish this home stand strong. You know, we we
already lost three home games in a row, and like
home court advantage is a big thing. We talked about
it with the NBA Finals and things like that, and

(22:54):
it's like, you know, when we're playing these tough teams,
when we're playing them at home, like they're we have
to win. These are like almost must win games, especially
early on. You don't want to look back later in
the season and be like, damn, I wish we would
have did things better in that game. I wish we
would have won that game, because like that determined seating
that determines like playoffs standing Like obviously we're in the

(23:15):
Commissioner Cup race right now. So yeah, I think that.
You know, sometimes there's when as a leader, you have
to pop off a little bit, And that's what happened
last night, just to kind of get everybody to not
to say we weren't keeping the main thing the main thing,
but like there was another level that we weren't at
and we needed to get to.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
I respect the man. I like that, you know. I
like that you you're able to tap into that because
I think there's a lot of guys that I don't know.
Sometimes there's people are afraid of stepping on toes, you know
what I mean. But to play at the level that
we're at, and to play the level that you're you know,
trying to get to and whatnot, you can't allow for
them for slippage. So I'm glad stuff like that kind
of goes viral every now, and they just remind people,
you know, she ain't sweet around here.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
Poor Drew. Shout out to Drew. That had no thing
to do with Drew. Drew was just the he was
just the one that came to talk to me. But
but he was the guy that everybody saw, but it
was not not about.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
Him, all right, So yeah, I think we talked about
this last episode. So you played a little little point
guard man, you know, kind of helped bring the team back.
You know, well, we all know you're a big guard.
You've been doing it for a long time, but like,
do you like running show a little bit more? You
know the season or you know, are you are you
used to it or do you want to do it
more or less? Like what's up?

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Honestly, it was something that I kind of settled into
a little bit more last year, just like giving the
defenses like different looks, you know, whether it's me initiating
offense or sab or now it's it's Pauline our our
French rookie kind of initiating, like switching it up. I
had ab on me last night, and you know it's

(24:48):
like a center of five. She doesn't want to be
guarding ball screens, you know what I mean, Like trying
to to kind of contort their defense in a different
way than they've they've ever practiced. And if it helps
like calm and comfort the team, I can definitely get
us initiated and set up into things, especially when it's
just Pauline and I basically at the point for now.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
Nice. Nice. Yeah, I think that it's a It's something
that's so much more common now than when it used
to be when you first got to the league's big
hand on the ball, bas initiating offense. You see a
lot of that in Euroball, So this is nothing new.
Like I said, I know, I know, there's something you've
been capable of doing for a long time. But to
be able to do it, you know, when you're seeing
is rely on you the most, that's a different level

(25:31):
composure you know that you got to get to as
a player. So I think that's dope. Well. With that
being said, you know, running points doing you scored thirty
last night, think you had eighteen free throws. I think
that you know, hey, you got to get it how
you get it. But yeah, you know, I think one
thing we talked about at the beginning of the season
was the way the league is being officiated, you know

(25:52):
right now, and I mean things kind of similar and
they're starting to start to loosen the reins a little bit,
Like where are you at with that?

Speaker 2 (25:59):
I think that right now, it's just about like consistency,
you know, like from from night into night out, you know,
knowing that it's like all right, game, are we going
to be like physical? Are we going to have to like,
you know, change the way that we're we're trying to
blow up some things blow up from dhos. I think
it's it's definitely settled better than than where it was

(26:20):
at the start of the season. And people are gonna
be like, oh, you said that because you got to
the free throw line twenty times last night. Like I
did get to free throw line a ship tone last night,
but they were in the bonus with five minutes left
in the fourth quarter and then at the end they
were fouling, So like you add that in and there's
all those free throws. But I think that like at
the halfway part of the season, I would I would

(26:40):
definitely like to check in and see, you know, how
how everybody's kind of feeling. Maybe we get a w
guest on here and just talk about it a little bit.
But I think it's it's getting better, like you know
what you can and you can't do. And also it
depends on the way that you start the game, right
if you start the games and then try to get

(27:01):
more physical or more aggressive, then you're gonna get caught
for all those files later.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
Yeah, that's real. Well, and like all the best players
you know in our league and near league, they know
how to get to the line. If you if you
got to you miss three or four shots in a row,
you just gonna see the ball go in, you know
what I mean. Easy way to do that is getting
to the line. And I just don't think that that's
something that should necessarily be too criticized in the sense.
It's just like it's just a way of playing the game, man,

(27:25):
and it's a way of getting smart, especially in like
those crunch time moments. So you know, shout out to you.
I mean, you gotta do what you got to do,
you know to I think as players we adjust to
Every referee is different, and you've know most of your
referees over the years that you become a vet, so
you kind of adjust the way the game is being called.
And that's just a part of being a pro. So
there's nothing new. Yeah, yeah, all right, let's talk more

(27:49):
about the league of run now right now. Every player
is different. How much do you pay attention like to
the w standings while things are going. Obviously all got
Commissioner Cups. I know you're probably eyeing it a little
bit more, but I think, like for playoff positioning early
in the year, not everybody kind of checks this. Some
people put it out of side, out of mind. Some
players like to know exactly where they're at. Where you
at with that.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Yeah, I'm not checking it all the time. I think that,
like especially early on, like I know our record, you
know we're seven and four, and definitely know the losses
a little bit, but it's so early, like so many
things are happening between the entire standings of the league.
Like if you're going to check it every day, you're
just going to be confused with where you're at. I

(28:30):
think that what I am paying attention to is the
Commissioner Cup standings, you know, just knowing because we only
have six games, right, so we play all six East
Coast teams and then from there, whoever has the best
record is in the Commissioner Cup final. And I don't
know if it's similar to you guys with the n
season tournament, like you are representing like a charitable what

(28:55):
am I trying to say, Like basically, we're we're raising
money to go towards to say her name. You guys
do that.

Speaker 1 (29:04):
We don't. We don't. This is kind of ours is
kind of newer to I think what they do is, like,
you know, the team that wins gets like gets whatever
the amount of money is when each player gets like
a share in the pool and whatnots.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
But yeah, no, so what happens for us is we
get that, but also every game that we win, we
get more, you know what I mean. So if you
win the game, I think it's like I don't know,
it's like two or three thousand dollars. If you lose
a game, it's one thousand that goes to the place
that you're representing. And then overall, if you win the championship,

(29:37):
you win more money.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
Got it. Yeah, that's kind of how it is, too,
Like it seeds out that way, but like we just
don't have the I guess the charitable like aspect of it.
If you will, the money goes scolles directly to that person.
But with that being said, like it is important for
us like to kind of pay attention to standings because
the way it works for us seating wise, is if
you win a game. Just because you win a game

(30:01):
doesn't necessary anything. It goes by point differential, so like
that's yeah. So like you see like towards in the game,
like you know that old rule of like oh no
layups at the buzzer and shit like that. Everybody's trying
to score, you know, as much as possible. So that's
when the standings kind of get important. And for us
it's in November, you know what I mean, everybody's kind
of like looking here and they just see what these
guys did, received it a certain way. So I don't know,

(30:22):
I'm the kind of the person that tries not to
look at the standings all the time because you kind
of just have a feeling of like if you know,
if you're playing bad, and you know if you're playing well,
you know what I mean, So you don't have to
kind of check in on other teams when all the time, man,
the league is, it just moves so fast, bro, So
it's just gonna you'll figure out as you go.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
I know. Sometimes it's hard to pay attention to all
the games. Like I remember last year, I'm like, I
don't even know are we six Do you have sixteen
wins or seventeen or eighteen or you know, like you
don't want to be too locked in about it, but
obviously you want to know. Like what I'm more paid
attention to is basically like did we win the series
with that team? You know, like, because that is what's
going to make the difference of who bump who are

(31:00):
in the standings.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
That's a good shot. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
All right, we'll speaking of the league right now. You know,
I think it's kind of off to a decent start,
you know, if you will, as far as these teams,
I mean there's been some surprises obviously early. But who
do you think is like the team to beat in
the league right now? And obviously Commissioner Cup is coming up,
so that plays a factor in their things. But you know,

(31:22):
there's hot teams out there, Like the Atlanta's of the
world are hot, you know what I mean. I think
Minnesota was hot for a minute, Like what's who's that?
Who's that team to be?

Speaker 2 (31:29):
Yeah? I mean I think that the teams that are
playing their best basketball is I think Minnesota right now,
they're they're really playing. They have like a sense of togetherness.
They seem like everybody is really like comfortable and locked
it on their roles and just collecting and stacking wings
like like almost like quietly, you know, quietly doing it
and minding their own business. Obviously Vegas defending champs.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Yeah, to rest of the Wings are playing well too.
Man shout in Dallas. Many trying a little bit.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
Dallas they got us, they be this already. Atlanta's playing good. Well,
we'll see them on this road trip. But like right now,
I feel like there's there's an incredible amount of parody
between all the teams in this league. You know, nobody's like,
nobody's undefeated. Sometimes we have these these things whereas like
this team is undefeated for hovering many games, nobody's undefeated.
Everybody's taking a loss. You got bottom teams beating top

(32:20):
teams and vice versa. So you know, right now it's
it's kind of like you got to respect everybody because
you know, the teams that haven't won many games, those
are like the most dangerous ones, honestly.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
Yeah, because they're desperate, you know what I mean. Every
game and then matters more, and like you you went
through a for in a row, you start to get comfortable,
like it's it's any given night, So I know exactly
what you mean. Uh, let's touch on Atlanta a little bit.
You know, a friend of a friend of the show.
You know Alicia Great. You know, she's playing great right
now with her team, and what do you think is
kind of been the key their success so far. I'm
not sure if you've watched very many Atlanta like games,

(32:52):
but you know, what do you how do you think
they're clicking?

Speaker 2 (32:55):
Yeah, I think Atlanta's clicking. They're they're playing fast, They're
playing fast paced basketball. They have least they have Ryan
kind of you know, really being being high scoring threats.
Jordan Canada who you know in Seattle.

Speaker 1 (33:11):
She's my high school class like her a lot.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
You know, she's like setting the tone in the pace.
And I think also like the angel addition for them
was exactly what they needed, you know, another post, another
one she's I think she's like leading the league in
rebounds or something like that, just like cleaning everything up
off the glass and really making making her mission to

(33:34):
kind of protect the paint. So I'm interested to see,
like when we play him, to like really get a
good kind of idea and envision on what they're doing
right and yeah, go after them a little bit.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
It's nice kind of just offstrip a little bit player
I'm happy for is Kennedy Carter. Man, I'm kind of
just keeping up and she looks as she's finally got
that opportunity that she was in missing the past couple
of seasons and is playing at a high level. And
I've always been a pan in her game, I know,
like regardless of stuff that's happened, you know, I think
she's playing really well and I'm happy for her.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
Yeah, me too. I think, like, you know, real hoopers
know you know, you know, you know who can hoop
and who can't. And tough situation when when she was
in Chicago and she was out of the league for
a little bit, but hope that she's back in with
Vegas and really kind of just getting after, you know,
getting getting ready to work and giving them an extra
spark that they need kind of off the bench.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
Yeah that's really man. All right, before we go to break,
make sure you don't forget speaking of our girl Alicia
over there, don't forget that South Carolina Jersey. Man.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
I know, I literally, I literally it's in my back.
I like my outfit picked out with it, so I
don't want to talk about this anymore. Time to one
more break. Next up, we go off the court and
get personal welcome back to game recognized game with Stuian Miles,

(35:05):
and you know, we're gonna talk about it a little
bit just my parent corner. We haven't we haven't dissected
it much as of late, but I have. So we
had parent teacher conferences right with our kids. Yeah, and Ruby,
Ruby's four. You know, she's gonna go to kindergarten next year,
so she's like really kind of doing it, like being

(35:27):
all independent. But we had our talk with Tayo and
about Tayo, our two year old, and he's the teacher,
was like, yeah, he's been like like almost doing chess
bumps to his classmates, like you know, like celebratory chess bumps.

(35:48):
And we had a family friend stay at our house
a few weeks ago and her son who's like twelve,
was teaching tale like like ankles, like kept saying ankles
is like breaking. Say, so I got my two year
old yelling ankles and trying to chest bump people and
and maybe his chest bumps are a little bit too
strong because he's a big two year old. But hopefully

(36:09):
for the parents. They know that you never know what
to expect from a parent teacher conference. But my kid
is just trying to celebrate with other kids that they.

Speaker 1 (36:17):
Probably teach them something, teach them something that's hard. I
like it. Man, everything's a little different. I guess I
got a little something. Man, I haven't done my segment
in a minute. You know, as far as me teach
you something new, how much in the in the gardening
are you? Do you take every green thumb at all?
Or you ever been in the plants?

Speaker 2 (36:35):
I want to have a green thumb.

Speaker 1 (36:36):
Okay, I want to.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
Marta, Like when I leave, she tries to she doesn't
want my plants.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
Oh that's the worst. That's the worst. So I'm kind
of the same way, man. I My goal one day
is like to buy a bunch of land somewhere and
just kind of like settle up, right, I want to
be I want to get into farming. I want to
learn how to like cultivate my own stuff, have my
own chickens. Like that's kind of far off into the future,
but you know, I kind of started doing my own

(37:02):
little thing like in indoors. Right. So for your problem
you're talking about there's this thing called easy Plant. I
like easy Plant a lot. It's literally exactly what it
sounds like. You buy these plants online. They're damn They're
fully mature. They come in shipp in the box. You
you only have to water in once a month. It's
like this little like hydroponic system, like you're pouring the water.
It takes care of itself for a month. Once every
thirty days, you're good to go. And like you got money, trees,

(37:24):
you got all sorts of like different plants. When I
had like all over my house because obviously when I'm
in seasoned, it's only so much I could do, you know,
meaning in Dallas. But another thing I kind of picked
up on is this thing called garden Tech. It's really
it's really cool. It's like a it's like an ai,
like its own light, its own water jug and whatnot.

(37:44):
It takes care of itself basically, And right now I'm
growing cucumbers like romaine, lettuce, spinach, peppers, strawberries, all sorts
of stuff. And yeah, so it's kind of cool. Yeah,
I can show you my app so basically I can
kind of monitor it while I'm away, Like there's like

(38:08):
a camera on it. So that's those like my collar
greens right there. Okay, there's like a top. There's like
a top and bottom. And then again it kind of
takes care of itself. It has like its own like
watering system and whatnot, and you can see that and
something like where the water's at and stuff and like
where the light's at. And it's dope because there's like
a little AI assistant if you just want to ask anything,

(38:30):
it's like hey, how am my plants doing to day?
Or like what am I supposed to do? You just
type it in and tell you exactly what's supposed to happen.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
And there's little like seedlings, these little pods that you
kind of put into the garden and it literally just
takes care of itself. Every like thirty days, you gotta
change the water or like add some plant food. But
in a matter of like thirty five days, I got
BOTCHOI I got some spinach, I got the cucumbers, I
got green beans like all like that quickly and literally

(39:00):
farm to table farmsable. Literally, I mean we made a
south the other days. They have a little salt peppers
and olive oil and it was great. And you know
again it's something that kind of that kind of pays
for itself. I think personally, you know it takes time,
but you know, as much as we're away from home,
like you need something like that, and that's how I'm
kind of learning how to get my green thumb like
wall on the go. So yeah, it's called Gardens g
A R D Y N and a little pricey but

(39:23):
at the same time and it pays for it soak
over time.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
I'm definitely gonna order this and man be like, why
did you buy this? Like well, smiles fault, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (39:33):
I'll take you. That's dope, all right, Joe. Thanks for
checking this out. Please rate, review, subscribe a game recognized
