So with that being said, man, just in life, like
what was what's the moment that you realized you had games?

Uh? I would just say, like this go back to
me growing up, you know, playing against the older kids
in my neighborhood. Uh So, like I had an outdoor
court I grew up playing on so like it was
you know the part the partment pretty much full, you know,
every every day with older kids, you know what I'm saying.
So like you barely got a chance to get on court.

You know what I'm saying. If you have, you if
you're not winning, you're not playing for another hour or so.
So that like it was saying kind of got my
confidence and like, you know what I'm saying, build, you
know what I'm saying, the competitives in me as well.
Uh like just like throughout life, brands just competing with everything. Uh,
I feel like it just my my game. I kind

of recognized I had a game when uh high school. Uh,
when I started uh uh varsity at ninth grade, and
just the way I cured myself and like and the
way I play it just it just showed that my game,
(04:31):
like the work I put in and it just showed
for itself. I had a tellah, I knew what I
wanted to do. You know what I'm saying. It was
like the indecision like if I'm shooting ball and shoot
the ball, I'm driving driving, So it's like and I
was also having fun that was like probably like my
high school probably was the most front I ever had
playing basketball. You know what I'm saying, Uh, that kind

of groove, you know what I'm saying, My my my
level of of my my level and then my skills,
my skills setting just like me putting into work because
of how much fun I had. So I recognized, like
when I made a barcity starting team in ninth grade.

That's real, man, that's a bar in itself. And you said,
like you knew when you wanted to shoot, he's gonna
shoot when you want to drive and went to drive.
That's a very mature mindset. That's tough for I think
a lot of our younger listeners and a lot of
our high school kids. You know that are that has
to get established. Man, that's not easy, you know. You know, yeah,
that's that's big man, and just harboring that mentality.

You know obviously went on to play you know, the
University of Georgia. You stayed home, you know, you you
stayed to your sophomore year. He was able to have him,
you know, that impactful season at twenty thirteen year and
then you know he went up to the drafted to
that you know, got drafted. You spent your first years,
your four years with Detroit, right, first few or Detroit? Yeah,
you still play. You feel connection with that city and

that team.

H man. I still toss some of like my old
friends back there, you know what I'm saying, Like some
of the people from the organization, like Detroit like kind
of made me who I am today. Two as well,
you know what I'm saying, and like just like the
history of Detroit. You know what I'm saying, the organization,
you know what I'm saying, coming into that, I had

an opportunity to play with Chounson, Billups, you know what
I'm saying, Shawn fram like I had she while this
as an assistant coach, Like I had an opportunity to
come in with some like great facts and great guys.
That's as part of like Detroit history. You know what

My office of game was you know, at its highest peak.

scorer on the team, so like there was like a
lot of stuff holding in my hands. So like being
able to go from a rooking player to that I
took a lot to like just mentally like taking. So

like I mean, yeah, I still have ties to Detroit
and I thank for everybody in the organization like to
this day. And I still talk just like old GM,
which was Joe Dumar at the time, Like so like
I'll still talk and them guys like man, it's just
just family over there.

Yeah, that's that's real. I feel like you really embody
like the spirit of like the city itself. Man, just
that grit, that grind, you know what I mean, and
the multitude into the play that you are. So I mean,
you've also got a chance to kind of see them

by my first I first saw with them my first
week of working out, like the first two days, like
I got dizzy the second day I had to stop
to work out thirty minutes in likes, it takes some
time to get used to but like it's a real thing.

minute or two minutes and you have to take a
deep breath. So it's a real thing. So like that's
how they they told me to get acclimated, like just
get out of the walk, you know what I'm saying, Like,

used to it. And then playing there, Man, it took
me at least a month and a half to kind
of get used to it because like I would say,

I had the two years to play there, and I
got used to it like within like h two to

of my championship teams, like it was to a point

I mean, I think it's in a good state, you

I'm all for like colle get paid, you know what

what I'm saying, keeping kids in school a little bit more,

basketball program for me. Uh and it's still a little
to this day, like just trying to like better the program, saying,
trying to make it even playing as far as like

a little bit far behind. Uh but I think you

I'm saying, Like they it's it's some great basketball program
within these football you know what I'm saying, Big football
programs like that that's at the school. So like let's
just say Alabama and all you know what I'm saying, Man,
Yeah came up, Alabama came up. You know, I'm saying
the basketball program, you know what I'm saying, And the
football has always been topped off there, so like it's doable,

you know what I'm saying. You gotta get the right players,
you know what I'm saying, make some couple of tournaments.
You know what I'm saying. I think the program was
just like, you know, do a lot better.

Yeah, so the tournament coming up, man, like JA, the

ain't never listened to him in the powerhouse, Like you

talent in the area, Like what do you think has
been missing? Like what's the issues.

The thing with us as far as like we're missing
a lot or recruit men home. You know what I'm saying.
I think we would go a little bit too much
outside of Georgia, you know what I'm saying, And not
in the state of Georgia, you know what I'm saying.

but I feel like we sure may not mainly recruit

and it's in the state of Georgia, but like this

great talent that could be at Georgia playing for you

like and then I don't know how it was when

much talent at home, but like you go outside of

I mean I already kind of knew it, but I
would just say, like be being patient. You know what

as like that. I had that patient weight for the saying.
But Life Leader also told me, like taught me a lot,
like just to slow down. And it's just I think,
you know a lot of stuff. Do move a lot

season and you an all Star breaking season, been moving
so like, uh, just being patient and being being mindful.
I would say, you know, just think about most of
the decisions that I make, you.

Favorite player of growing up? What's what's definitely Broun And
I got it and I got a so real moment
about that too. I will tell you about le Bron

you know growing up that I kind of like watched

of him like when I was in Detroit Gardner. You

was about the posh And then with the so real
moment about Broun was so high school. I think it
was an I'm in high school. I went to his
very first camp he ever had in Akron, Ohio. Wow,

This is the year east side of the Lakers. I
I show him the picture and he was like, no
fucking white. I was like, no fucking white. You know
what I say? You my growing up, got a picture
with you. You know what I'm saying. I'm a shy
kid out of Greenville, Georgia, and fucking now I'm playing
with you. You know what I'm saying. Like so I'm like, man,

that was probably one like that with them, like the
great so real moment and they were like, you never
should beat your idols. You know what I'm saying, because
there was. But man, probably one of the cool ballfucker
I ever met, you know what I'm saying. So like
it was like so real for men like that that
food turn around, Like man, I was a kid and
watching him grow up and saying, now I'm playing with you.

You know what I'm saying. It's definitely I followed one
of the other so real moment I had in the league.

wife have an amazing relationship. I man, even people she

makes related to so strong and special? Man? How does
she support you?

I'm saying. That helped me like kind of destretched a

or to it and then getting back to a room

need to just do is just focus on basketball. Uh

like be prepared mentally too, because like you know what

like mentally focus on like all right, my job, you

come home. I've talked to her about my job and
she not gonna scoll me or if she see me

need to drive more, you know what I'm saying. And
like my wifels like kind of one of this kind

like this that communication and like the outlet for me,

what was what's the moment that you realized you had games?

Uh? I would just say, like this go back to
me growing up, you know, playing against the older kids
in my neighborhood. Uh So, like I had an outdoor
court I grew up playing on so like it was
you know the part the partment pretty much full, you know,
every every day with older kids, you know what I'm saying.
So like you barely got a chance to get on court.

You know what I'm saying. If you have, you if
you're not winning, you're not playing for another hour or so.
So that like it was saying kind of got my
confidence and like, you know what I'm saying, build, you
know what I'm saying, the competitives in me as well.
Uh like just like throughout life, brands just competing with everything. Uh,
I feel like it just my my game. I kind

of recognized I had a game when uh high school. Uh,
when I started uh uh varsity at ninth grade, and
just the way I cured myself and like and the
way I play it just it just showed that my game,

like the work I put in and it just showed
for itself. I had a tellah, I knew what I
wanted to do. You know what I'm saying. It was
like the indecision like if I'm shooting ball and shoot
the ball, I'm driving driving, So it's like and I
was also having fun that was like probably like my
high school probably was the most front I ever had
playing basketball. You know what I'm saying, Uh, that kind

of groove, you know what I'm saying, My my my
level of of my my level and then my skills,
my skills setting just like me putting into work because
of how much fun I had. So I recognized, like
when I made a barcity starting team in ninth grade.

you still play. You feel connection with that city and

like fifty five and likely in centims, you know what
I mean, maybe you kind of stretch it out and
centivize it, like over the years and centivize these kids
to stay. You know what I mean, you get the
boke your contract on the back end or something.

If I'm paying the kid, if I got to like
I said, talk kid, if I'm paying you four million,
five million dollars, I got at least get two years
out of him. You know what I'm saying. For you

get a basketball program, see that a football first college.

I think just what what you what you take out
of you know what I'm saying, the work you put
into it. You know what I'm saying. When I signed
with Georgia, I wasn't worried about the football you know

what I'm saying process over there. It was about the
basketball program for me. Uh and it's still a little
to this day, like just trying to like better the program, saying,
trying to make it even playing as far as like
you know what I'm saying football, even though we were
a little bit far behind. Uh but I think you
know what I'm saying, it's it's doable, you know what

I'm saying, Like they it's it's some great basketball program
within these football you know what I'm saying, Big football
programs like that that's at the school. So like let's
just say Alabama and all you know what I'm saying, Man,
Yeah came up, Alabama came up. You know, I'm saying
the basketball program, you know what I'm saying, And the
football has always been topped off there, so like it's doable,

you know what I'm saying. You gotta get the right players,
you know what I'm saying, make some couple of tournaments.
You know what I'm saying. I think the program was
just like, you know, do a lot better.

Yeah, so the tournament coming up, man, like JA, the
team's pretty good, you know what I mean. Historically y'all
ain't never listened to him in the powerhouse, Like you
know what I'm saying. But what y'all have so much
talent in the area, Like what do you think has
been missing? Like what's the issues.

The thing with us as far as like we're missing
a lot or recruit men home. You know what I'm saying.
I think we would go a little bit too much
outside of Georgia, you know what I'm saying, And not
in the state of Georgia, you know what I'm saying.
Like he's saying, it's a football at state, you know
what I'm saying. So it's like not really much basketball,
but I feel like we sure may not mainly recruit

and it's in the state of Georgia, but like this
should at least be your first you know what I'm saying,
Like this should be home base. You know what I'm saying. Yeah,
there's a lot of it's a lot of kids with
great talent that could be at Georgia playing for you
know what I'm saying, and could be like you know
what I'm saying, that role player you need or that
superstar you need. You know what I'm saying. Like when

I signed with Georgia, I was the only five star
recruit at the time, you know. And then yeah, so
like and then I don't know how it was when
a man got there. You know what I'm saying. If
I was the best player that YO signed there with
his year, you know, so like it's just like just
like you got it in your backyard. You know what
I'm saying. You missed out on scoop hinders here, you

know what I'm saying. But he didn't go to college route,
you know what I'm saying, he went, you know what
I'm saying, somewhere else. There was a lot of talent here,
you know what I'm saying. So like I think just
starting like recruiting in your backyard, you know what I'm saying,
Then venture out. You know what I'm saying. I think
it's uh, it's a lot easier. I think we let
I forget one one kid, he from Athens. He went

to Florida school too. You know what I'm saying. He
was in It was really in your backyard, you know
what I'm saying. But like y'all, don't y'all they might
pursue him that much. You know what I'm saying, Like
keep him home. So I'm like, when you have so
much talent at home, but like you go outside of
like just to do recruiting, you know what I'm saying.

Out out of state team Like a lot of guys
probably don't want to lead, you know what I'm saying.
But like you got a lot of guys that won't
stay home, you know I think, Like I think that's
for Georgia. Like just recoop a little bit more in Georgia.

being blessed. And everything that I've been, I've done, you know,
since I've been in the league, Like sound blested, I

have thirteen years and more counting. You know what I'm saying,
I'm just to just be able to put my my
family in a position you know what I'm saying where
they're going to always be good.

What do you think the hardest lesson this league has
taught you? Uh?

I mean I already kind of knew it, but I
would just say, like be being patient. You know what
I'm saying. I already kind of knew us as far
as like that. I had that patient weight for the saying.
But Life Leader also told me, like taught me a lot,
like just to slow down. And it's just I think,
you know a lot of stuff. Do move a lot
past season. B You know what I'm saying. You start

season and you an all Star breaking season, been moving
so like, uh, just being patient and being being mindful.
I would say, you know, just think about most of
the decisions that I make, you.

Know, right, you know I'm that who's your favorite player
growing up? He's in George.

Favorite player of growing up? What's what's definitely Broun And
I got it and I got a so real moment
about that too. I will tell you about le Bron
because me and my growing like washed the Cavs you
know all the time. You know what I'm saying. And
that was her payer team as well. But like, yeah,
Kobe Brown, you know what I'm saying with my two guys,

you know growing up that I kind of like watched
a lot, you know what I'm saying. Just that's where
I wanted to be. You know what I'm saying.

Yeah, it's the greatest right there. Man, you got a
chance to play against one, which is crazy. I played
against Kobe too, got a chance. I got a picture
of him like when I was in Detroit Gardner. You
know what I'm saying, It's famous.

was about the posh And then with the so real
moment about Broun was so high school. I think it
was an I'm in high school. I went to his
very first camp he ever had in Akron, Ohio. Wow,
took a picture with him. Fast forward, I'm in the league.

This is the year east side of the Lakers. I
I show him the picture and he was like, no
fucking white. I was like, no fucking white. You know
what I say? You my growing up, got a picture
with you. You know what I'm saying. I'm a shy
kid out of Greenville, Georgia, and fucking now I'm playing
with you. You know what I'm saying. Like so I'm like, man,

that was probably one like that with them, like the
great so real moment and they were like, you never
should beat your idols. You know what I'm saying, because
there was. But man, probably one of the cool ballfucker
I ever met, you know what I'm saying. So like
it was like so real for men like that that
food turn around, Like man, I was a kid and
watching him grow up and saying, now I'm playing with you.

You know what I'm saying. It's definitely I followed one
of the other so real moment I had in the league.

Nice bro, nice Yeah, switching gears a little bit, just
like just to you, man, Like it seems like your
wife have an amazing relationship. I man, even people she
dressed up as you for Halloween and whatnot. Yeah, what
makes related to so strong and special? Man? How does
she support you?

Uh? The communication? Man, I think she's she's my mic cap.
You know what I'm saying. After all these games, you
know what I'm saying, Like she she's just actually the
phone and let me vent to her, you know what
I'm saying. That helped me like kind of destretched a
little quicker than me just going thinking about it, holding
or to it and then getting back to a room
or like get on a flight. Uh. Yeah, she's always

like just held the house down. Like well, all I
need to just do is just focus on basketball. Uh
you know what I'm saying. And also helped me like
like be prepared mentally too, because like you know what
I'm saying, she's thrown a lot of curveballs, you know
what I'm saying, Like we're like out that like what
I'm saying, we're not agreeing with each other, I would say,

and like but what we do communicate? You know what
I'm saying. You know, like is like the ship is steady,
you know what I'm saying, Like I'm able to just
like mentally focus on like all right, my job, you
know what I'm saying, Camel and whatever the team need.
And then when I come home with it's like, man,
it's like peace. I would say, you know what I'm saying,

because like I know, I know, I know I can
come home. I've talked to her about my job and
she not gonna scoll me or if she see me
playing bad. You know what I'm saying, she gonna let
me know. You know what I'm saying. You my oldest son,
My oldest son does that though, you know what I'm saying.
So he like, dad, man, you need super more. You
need to drive more, you know what I'm saying. And
like my wifels like kind of one of this kind

of like just really really then it's like you know
what I'm saying. You can see Peeky got this. You
know what I'm saying, Like, you know what I'm saying,
Just keep it. You know, she keep doing you so
like this that communication and like the outlet for me,
uh like she's shooting held in the down for last
thirteen years. Man, she's build. I've been with her since
I was rookie. That's fire.

Yeah, she she she held it down. Man. We like
as marriage, man, we had some up and down. We
got married at twenty three, you know what I'm saying.
We got married young. So like we had an ups
and downs. Like she's she's she's held the boat study. Man,
I'm just engine. I'm just keeping it moving.

I know that's right, bro. So I mean you always
got to hold it down for your people's your family, man.
And uh, you know normally on the show, we have
a segment with Stuart. You know she has two kids
as well when she starts parenting advice, you know what
I mean, given that ship in here, and you got
lots of experience there, you know with five kids, man,
which is giving people some advice. Man. You know I

got a lot of experience.

I just we just talked about it, man. What was
one of the things to lead taught me patient? Man?
And it was like it wasn't hard like with my
oldest when we just had my oldest was kind of
like smooth, you know what I'm saying. Then we had
a sacho with you know what I'm saying. Then we
had the third so like as the numbers grew, like

it kind of got harder, you know what I'm saying.
But like saying being patient, you know what I'm saying.
Also just being president, you know what, always tell me
be present. You know what I'm saying. You hear it,
but you ain't here, you know what I'm saying, So
be present, you know what I'm saying. Like and just
like you got to try to like you know, definitely
like everything everything in order, right, That's why I get everything.

Like my props to my wife. Man, Like she she's
been like holding the house down because I like we
like right now I'm in Memphis and she's uh back
in the Lando with the kids. Uh Like, just like
she's been holding it down. Man, it's been tough for
But like when I when I come home, it's like

And but like just being patient for me, like with
my kids, it's like it's being that patient and it's
just been being present.
