Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Good Game with Sarah Spain, where we'd like
to thank Saturday Night Lives Weekend Update for agreeing with
us that the WNBA is the default and it's great
that there's an MMBA. Hopefully people give it a watch.
It's Monday, May fourth, and on Today Show, Seattle Storm
guard and one half of the Stud Buds, Natisha Heideman
joins us to talk about leaving Minnesota to sign with

(00:20):
the Seattle Storm, saying goodbye to Stud Buds twin Courtney
Williams and her early impressions of new Storm coach Sonya Rahman,
and we'll see if we can get her to give
us a countdown of top five Stud Buds moments. Plus
Playoff Hockey delivers what comes after the Golden Ticket and
till death do us part vows that cover sickness, health,

(00:41):
and the Soccer Hall of Fame. It's all coming out
right after this welcome back slices. Here's what you need
to know today. Let's start with the PWHL and an
update on the Walter Cup playoffs. The semi final series
between the Boston Fleet and Ottawa Charge is all tied

(01:04):
up one to one after the Charge even the series
with a three to one win over the Fleet Saturday
night in Lowell, Massachusetts. Autawa goaltender Gwyneth Phillips made thirty
saves in the win, including fourteen in the first period.
The Fleet were without defender Rylan McKinnon for the contest
after she was suspended one game for an illegal check
to the head of charge opponent Gabby Hughes in Game
one of the series. Both teams now have nearly a

(01:26):
week to rest and reset ahead of Game three on
Friday and Ottawa. Meantime, the third seeded Minnesota Frost won
game one of their semi final series against the number
one seed Montreal Victoire on Saturday and Quebec, a five
to four overtime win. Minnesota took the lead three separate
times in regulation, but each time Montreal forward Laura Stacey

(01:46):
scored the game time goal for the Victoire. Her three
tallies marked the first ever hat trick in p WHL
playoff history. You can't answer back in sudden death overtime, though,
so it was Frost defender jin C Rose who was
the hero score, scoring four minutes and thirty seconds into
the extra period to give Minnesota the win. This game
also saw Minnesota forward Brita curl Selemi pick up a

(02:08):
five minute major penalty and ejection after she hit Caitlin
Willoughby in the head. Now it's possible curl Slemi will
receive supplemental discipline for the hit, which could keep her
out of Game two. Curl Selemi has previously received supplemental
discipline four times, a track record that will likely count
against her as the PWHL safety Committee assesses the incident.
Game two of the series is tomorrow night, and it's

(02:29):
back at Montreal's Place Bell Arena to the NWSL. The
Washington Spirit pulled off a big four to win over
the Orlando Pride on Saturday, the squad's fourth straight w
and another chance for the team to parade about their
lucky term Jose the Coyote. Spirit forward Sophia Cantore got
things going early, scoring two goals in the first five
minutes and twenty seven seconds, a new NWSL record for

(02:52):
fastest brace from kickoff just before the end of the
first half. Orlando's Barbara Bando responded with two goals of
her own in seven minutes, but Washington sealed the deal
in the second half thanks to Taali's from Claudia Martinez
and Trinity Rodman. Rodman has now scored three goals in
three games and don't look now, but the Utah Royals

(03:13):
have won four straight games as well, a club record
win streak. The Perennial also Rans now sit in fourth
place at four to one and two after a one
nil victory over Angel City FC on Saturday. In Sunday's Action,
the Triple Espresso Babies met for the first time in
Chicago before the Thorns Stars game. Mouse Wanson's Josie and

(03:34):
Sophia Wilson's Gigi Aka future frontline for the US women's
national team, and the fields continued after the game when
Uncle nahor Aka Stars goalkeeper Listenair had a baby in
each arm. You must check out the show notes to
see it. It's so cute. As for the game action,
Portland defeated Chicago two nil with goals from Olivia Moultrie

(03:54):
and Rayland Turner. Also on Sunday, the Boston Legacy finally
got off the Schnell, beating fellow expansion side Denver Summit
three to two at home for the first win in
franchise history. Now Denver scored first, but Boston's Nachelle Prince
found the back of the net in the forty fourth
minute to tie it up. Denver stole back the lead,
but the Legacy tied it up again two to two

(04:15):
in the ninetieth minute with a goal from Isada Treoi,
and then Bianca Saint George finally sealed the deal for
the Legacy, scoring in the final seconds of stoppage time.
With the win, the NWSLS so called circle of Parody
is complete. Shout out to Blue Sky users Shameless Rainstand
for the graphic which shows how all sixteen teams in
the league are connected through wins and losses, and since

(04:39):
the Boston Legacy have beaten the Denver Summit, who have
beaten Gotham, who have beaten Bay, who have beaten North Carolina,
and so on and so on, the circle of parody
is complete. We'll link to the graphic in the show notes.
More soccer. US national team legends. Tobin Heath and Heather
O'Reilly were both inducted into the National Soccer Hall of
Fame on Friday. O'Reilly selected former longtime teammate turned Got

(05:01):
Them GM yile averbush West to introduce her to the Hall,
while Heath went with former teammate turned wife Kristin Press.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Now.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Per The Athletic, Heath originally asked her mom to introduce her,
but when she politely declined, she went with Press. We'll
link to a fun story from The Athletic that includes
more insight on how honorees have chosen their presenters, as
well as the full video of the Hall of Fame
ceremony and speeches to the WNBA. For a second year
in a row, the Golden State Valkyries top Sportico's list
of most valuable WNBA franchises. Sportico's reporting sets the Valkyrie's

(05:32):
valuation at eight hundred and fifty million dollars, a three
hundred and fifty million dollar increase over just last year's assessment.
The Valkyries are followed by the New York Liberty, valued
at six hundred million, and the Indiana Fever, valued at
five hundred sixty million. In total, Sportico estimates that the
WNBA's thirteen returning teams are worth a collective five point
five billion dollars. We'll link to the full assessment and

(05:56):
list in the show notes. Speaking of the Valkyries through
a a couple more notable cuts from them over the weekend,
as they waived six players on Saturday, including Dukes standout
Ashland Jackson, who hit the buzzer beating three in the
Blue Devil's upset of LSU in the tournament, and TCU's
Marta Suarez, who you might remember arrived in the Bay
via an eyebrow raising draft night trade that earned the

(06:17):
Valkswarrez and a twenty twenty eight second round pick and
sent Flaje Johnson to the Seattle Storm, So waving Suarez
just adding to the intrigue in all of that. With
the WNBA preseason wrap it up yesterday, you can expect
final cuts to come fast and furious ahead of Thursday's
roster deadline. To tennis, Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk won the Madrid
Open on Saturday, upsetting Russians Mira Andreva seven to five six'

(09:16):
DEVO i GUESS i think horse racing is literally animal
abuse and shouldn't be, legal you, know since it estimated
eighteen hundred racehorses die In america on racetracks or in
training every single. Year BUT i guess if anyone's going
to profit off of, It i'd rather it's a. Woman,
MAYBE i don't. Know don't hate the, player hate the,
game but in this, CASE i actually just might continue

(09:38):
to hate. Both we got to take a. Break when
we come, back we talked to stud suddenly without a,

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Us appreciate y'all for having me.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
On So Green? Bay does that make you A packers?

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Fan of course you got to represent the.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Homeland, Okay I'm Chicago, girley but it feels better being
on my side the last couple of, Years SO i
won't dog it too.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Much i'm not gonna. Lie The bears And packers have been.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Going y'all did get us this past, season Which i'm
looking forward to the new.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Season SO i.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Heard when you were back In wisconsin you picked up
the Nickname Tea spoon in high. School what was it
About Teresa witherspoon that resulted in those comparisons and is
your current nickname Of tea still throwing back to that
or is that more about The natsia, Natsiha, YEAH i
actually had that name before high.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
SCHOOL i had that name SINCE i was like young young.
Before so it was actually kind of cool because my,
my my, pops who gave me that, nickname actually got
to Meet Teresa, witherspoon not this past, year but the
year before it, Unrivaled so that was kind of like
a full circle. Moment but now mostly everybody just called ME.
T WHEN i go back, HOME i get a little
bit in the.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Teaspoon, so, yeah what was the reason you got that?
Nickname early?

Speaker 2 (11:23):
ON i think my my pops just knew THAT i
was gonna play.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
BASKETBALL i was always around, basketball so he kind of
just everybody's already called ME, t so he just took
the name for, real just like like a little idol
and you, know somebody to look up.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
To, yeah how are. You how's adjusting To, Seattle?

Speaker 3 (11:42):
Ben, Yeah it's been. Good it's definitely. Different i've never
like lived in a place like this just so. Much so,
much Like i'm like right, downtown so like all the
tall buildings and. EVERYTHING i, Mean i'm learning like just
so much about THE. Pnw, yeah, okay you even got
the acronym.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Down we saw the footage of you reacting To, mountaineer
not really Realizing seattle was right in the. Mountains there
anything else surprising you about the.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
CITY i mean that was probably my biggest, shock just
because it really.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Is it's not there all the. Time you really can't
see it all the.

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Time so WHEN i my first like five days, HERE
i did not see, That like it wasn't.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
There and then all of a SUDDEN i see. It i'm,
like oh, wow this is.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
Crazy and then now like WHEN i see, It i'm,
like this is just LIKE i feel Like seattle has.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
It all, water mountains like. Everything so it's.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Nice have you made it out To Pike place to
throw a fish or gone to the Original starbucks?

Speaker 2 (12:37):
YET i have. NOT i have not got to do that.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Yet BUT i guarantee they're going to make. You it's
like a write a passage if you live In seattle
and play sports that they will get some b roll
of you throwing or catching a.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
Fish all, right say, List i'm ready to be.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
Prepared you should probably wait Till courtney gets up. There
it seems like some good stud buds content to be.
Right fish maybe a little two on the, nose let's
not get into.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
It.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Okay so you god a great season last year with
The links career high and. Shooting what went well and
what do you want to build on In.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
SEATTLE i think what went well for me last year
was just letting the game come to. ME i feel
like being here In seattle is kind of the same.
MENTALITY i feel like be a bit more aggressive here as,
well just with passing and shooting as. Well But i'm
looking forward to it because we have a really young
team and we're just trying to build and you, know

(13:27):
reset the culture.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Here SO i think that we're gonna have a lot
of fun doing.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
That, yeah lots of turnover in the offseason For. Seattle
the team lost its top five scores to free. Agency
as you're sort of coming together in training camp with
this new look squad getting a few preseason games, in
what do you think sort of the identity of this
year's team is going to.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
BE i think that is gonna, be, uh we gotta play.
FAST i feel like that's gonna we're gonna be known,
for like playing fast and. HUSTLING i feel like we
got a lot of competitors on our, team so just
going out there to compete every single, night AND i
think that all the players on our team want to.
Win SO i feel like we're definitely going to carry

(14:04):
that over to the games because we get pretty competitive
in practice just going against each.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Other so what was like the sales pitch to, you
whether that was from head Coach Sonya, rahman whether it
was from THE gm out, There, like what did they
say to you to try to get you to come To?
SEATTLE i just.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
Think it was the belief that they had in. Me you,
know they just watched me play over the, years AND
i think that JUST i felt like they really believed
in me and my game and WHAT i.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Can bring to the.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Team SO i feel, like, honestly it was a pretty
easy decision on coming here to Represent.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Seattle, well things had to go so fast that free agency. Period,
obviously who knows who was talking beforehand or. What you,
know teammates were trying to pull people over to join.
Forces but how did you and your agent handle knowing
that you had to move pretty quickly once you got
a vibe because somebody else might say yes and take
that spot that you were getting getting selected.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
For, YEAH i feel like for, me it wasn't you,
KNOW i didn't want to rush. Decision it is a
really big. Decision you, know can just a lot to think,
about a lot to you, know try to. Decide but for,
me it was really just take my time in when
the moment felt. RIGHT i felt LIKE i just taket
my agent like all, right, Uh. Seattle it is LIKE
i was actually at the gym And i'm, LIKE i

(15:18):
just stopped mid workout and takes my agent, like, Yeah
i'm going To. Seattle so it was kind of. WEIRD
i had like an epiphany WHILE i was just working.
Out so, yeah that's pretty much what happened with.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Me did you have any other ideas what players the
team might be going after and who you might be
teaming up.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
WITH i actually didn't WHEN i had basically decided to
come To. Seattle it wasn't much of a, team BUT
i just had trust in Like talisa and coach so
that they were gonna bring the right people. Here and you,
know obviously getting the people that we got in the
draft was amazing as, well SO i knew, that and

(15:56):
obviously the returning players that they did, have SO i
was pretty pretty. EXCITED i knew that they were gonna
bring good people around because they were definitely preaching culture to.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Me so talk about Coach, sonya what's the vibe a
lot coach.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
Shows you could just tell she's very smart when it
comes to the game of. Basketball she you, know she
she makes you work. Hards she she you, know has
it's a quiet demeanor about. Her BUT i feel like
that demeanor is like it hits kind of a little bit,
harder you know What i'm saying when when, something when

(16:30):
she says, something you're definitely.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Listening but it's been great playing for her thus.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Far and LIKE i, said she's a really smart coach
and her being around hers is fun as.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
Well what are some of the most important things that
you learned from Coach Cheryl reeve in your couple of
years In minnesota that you're taking with you.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
There, Yeah sharyl got on me a, lot SO i
feel Like i'm taking a lot of. It she, DEFINITELY i,
mean obviously having my best year last. Year you, Know
she's always pushing me to be the, best AND i
feel like.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Just carrying that part.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
OVER i feel like every coach along my career has
helped me in some shape or. Form so using all
the good things THAT i got from all my coaches
in just continuing continuing that on in my.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
Career, yeah you've been in a couple of, spots but
for a lot of, FOLKS i Think minnesota started to
feel like like a, family. Right you, know you had
your fellow Stud Bud, courtney she's your, twin the fista
call your's your. Mom what kind of emotions did you
have about leaving Your minnesota fan.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
BEHIND i mean it's tough because you, know just not
only on the, court but off the, court like you,
know courts like my best, Friend so we were together
every single. Day so it's definitely. Adjustment AND i feel
like she's helped me so much on the court with
a lot of.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
Stuff so.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
And then obviously he just you, know she definitely the
mom of the, team just getting.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
You snacks when you're. Hungover, yeah for.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
Sure BUT i mean it was time for me to
take a different avenue and just really step into the
GROWTH i, Had like you, SAID i had a really
good season last, year so just stepping into a new
position AND i feel like just embracing this. Opportunity SO
i still talk to them, Often so it's it's not
it's not.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
Nothing, yeah, well everyone wants to know if the Stud
buds can live on via long distance. Friendship can we
get plans for the live streams via twitch from?

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Afar, yeah so we already we already DID i think
one or two during training. Camp you, know it is very,
heckedy very, busy putting in a lot of time.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
In the gym and in the weight room and.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Stuff SO i feel like once training camp is over
and everything settles, down definitely be more live.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
Streams and then of course we'll be At All star this.

Speaker 1 (18:39):
Year so what about auditions for a new twin like.
Flage is anyone going to be trying to Steal courtney?

Speaker 3 (18:46):
Spot, NO i Mean Corney corney. Spot you can't never
take that. Secure, yeah it's lacking no matter.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
What, plus welcome, all we welcome.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
All, yeah we can have some new buds that may
be EXACTLY i don't know you you gotta be a
stud to be A Stud, bud so, yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
But we have Stem, buds. Fembuds we welcome.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
ON i want to hear about the origins of the
Stud buds BECAUSE i haven't actually heard you speak on
how you came up with the name and the, idea
why it felt like something you wanted to bring to.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
People, yeah we were just in the training, room well
the locker room one, day and we were just talking
about streaming and we were, like, yeah maybe we should do.
It so one day we just literally started, streaming like
off OF i don't even know if we were streaming
off the, phone LIKE i DON'T i can't even remember,
how but it just started at the. Apartment me And

(19:38):
corney just started streaming and the name had came to,
me SO i just said it and we just went with,
it and then we started streaming. It like, literally we
had like ten fifteen people on, there and then it
just over time just kept on growing and growing and,
growing and now this is what it turned out to.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
Be y'all are very, entertaining, obviously so that's a lot
of the reason people are. Watching you're, hilario you're brutally,
Honest you're unafraid to say and do whatever you want on.
Camera BUT i, think you, know the conversation has also
been how you're appealing because of your, authenticity because of
your representation for masculine, presenting black gay, Women and it
feels like that's really a lot of what your popularity

(20:17):
comes back to is being authentically that in spaces that
don't often maybe present. That did you feel like that
was going to be like a thing early on or
was it just being yourselves and discovering that people wanted
to watch?

Speaker 3 (20:28):
That, HONESTLY i think, that, uh when we, STARTED i
don't know WHAT i thought it would, be BUT i
never thought that it would be like. This we definitely
like grew and it's kind of crazy just how we
really have been being ourselves this whole. TIME i think
that's like the best part about it is like we

(20:48):
haven't had a change or do x y AND. Z
we literally been ourselves and just seeing all the people
that support us for being, us and then, AGAIN i
think it just gives people a different. Look, obviously everybody
you know use us as, athletes which we, are but you,
know we have lives and other things going on outside of.
Basketball so just giving like the fans and people who
support us a different, look like kind of into our

(21:11):
personal lives a little.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
Bit SO i think.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
It's honestly really been fun AND i feel, like you,
know the best part About stubblods is you, know like for,
example like parents have come up to me and like
thank you you helped my relationship with my daughter so,
much OR, X y AND. Z so it's just it
goes a lot further than you would, Think AND i
feel like those moments are the best WHEN i hear
stuff like that and just realize the impact that we

(21:35):
have on.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
People, yeah that's really. COOL i think also you mentioned
like you've just been yourself throughout AND i think people
have watched you go, from like you, mentioned ten or
fifteen followers to realizing that you were really helping spread
the culture of THE w beyond and into spaces that
maybe had featured a couple of players but not maybe
necessarily the mask presenting gay players in the same way

(21:57):
that they might have gone for the you, know girl
next door. Vibes so you had the opportunity to really
show people like all the different facets of THE w
and at, TIMES i think getting used to all the
people watching and paying attention was. TOUGH i, know you
guys had a thing With Dave portnoy where you thought, like,
oh this guy's got a bunch of followers and let's
have him. On you found out that he's not a good,

(22:17):
dude and you sort of talked about that on your live, Strip,
hey we're not gonna be labor, this but like we
didn't know much about. Him don't, worry we're not having
him On how did that feel for you realizing all
of a sudden that, like even if you're not doing
it on, purpose you might take a wrong step or
do something that the fans don't. Like and how many
people are paying attention?

Speaker 3 (22:34):
Now, YEAH i MEAN i remember at that time that was.
CRAZY i didn't even want to open my. Phone they
was just destroying us on any app that you could think,
of and it was like we we NEVER i never
even heard of, him SO i don't even know, who
like you, know and it's like you kind OF i
feel like that's kind of the thing with me And
courtney is, like you, know we kind of give everybody

(22:57):
a chance because, again we never knew, him so it's
Like i'm not judging him off of.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Anything we don't even know.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
Him and then we you, know obviously heard things and
found out this and that or, whatever so it's kind of,
like you, Know, okay we're going to leave that, alone
like we don't want our brand to represent those. Things but,
again it was before anything ever even happened where people
are kind of just making. ASSUMPTION i feel like that's
kind of the risk that we take with live streaming

(23:22):
is like everything is, live what we say is out,
there what we do is out, there and that was
just the moment where we learned from. Whatever so, yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
How do you balance? That because like part of what
people love is that you're, unscripted. Unfiltered you, are you,
know showing everybody the real thing between the two of,
you but also you, know the other players when you're
doing live stream set events and. Stuff but also you
sort of have a responsibility now because you have this
huge platform and all these. Fans how do you balance
that and make sure you're still, real but you, know
also not platforming bad.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
PEOPLE i, MEAN i think, truthfully the people who me
And courtney, are we surround ourselves around good, people around great,
people and what we stand, for what we believe. In so,
Honestly i'm not having to really think too much about
it just because everybody who we we're cool, with who
we come in contact, with who we align ourselves, with

(24:17):
it's what we stand. For SO i feel like everything
has been smooth really and we got to meet a
lot of great people and have a lot of great
people on the, Stream so it's been.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
Fun in light of, THAT i want to hear your
top five Stud buds.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Moments, well number one for sure Was All.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
Star we got to go to like LIKE i don't
think it was it WASN'T, nascar but it. Was it
was something like with the racing cars like and we were.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
THERE i don't.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
Know we were Supporting Tony she's a she's a female.
Racer that was super. FIRE i mean we got to
go to THE nwsl watch their championship.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Game another fire.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
Moment, yeah y'all were on the stage dancing TO i
believe it Was Vanessa, carlton and then the commissioner's husband
got up and started dancing with. YOU i remember that
moment very, distinctly but, y'all, yeah it was right After kesha.
PERFORMED i believe that.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
That was a good. Time so we had a lot
of good.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
MOMENTS i mean it's a lot of fun just, again
like we literally just are being, ourselves going to support other,
athletes other, people you, know getting to meet all these
different people and companies and things like. That so it's
definitely is a lot more than five memories THAT i
definitely feel based. Off But i'm looking forward to two

(25:36):
more being. MADE i think that was.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Three y'all offer up a couple of my. Faves when
you were Trashing diplo and requesting better, music not realizing
that THE dj you were dogging was in Fact, diplo.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
Like the BEST dj in the, world.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
One of the most famous DJs.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
Ever, AGAIN i didn't know Who diplow was just but
we know, now we know, Now But i'm not gonna.
Lie diplo was definitely a cool, Guy like he was so,
cool like he was so he was.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
Dope.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
YEAH i like when you were talking To Angel reese
and then you said you can't afford, Her.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
Yeah too.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
Expensive she's talking About burking, bags like twenty FIVE K burking.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
Bags, yeah, honey you got.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
IT i.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
CAN'T i.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Can't.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
Yeah but now now now getting, Closer, yeah we get
we tapping into, that you, know obviously getting the commission
to knuck if you buck in the midst OF cba.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
Negotiations, uh the fans were in the wigs, everywhere not
just at your, games but you, Know Sue bird And
Meghan repeno and then were passing it AROUND nws all weekend.
Two so the stud buds got to, crash uh the soccer.
WORLD i actually want to talk about The kathy one
because we were trying to figure out From afar if
she was using the stud buds to try to look

(26:51):
relatable to the players when there was a little bit
of beef going down about THE, Cba what did you
think of that and did you have fun with? It
even though things were a little tense at the, TIME.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
I feel like at that moment it was just like
it really wasn't like a work thing or like a business.
THING i feel like we were all in just one
space having. Fun everybody was enjoying like just the party
in the, atmosphere AND i could tell That kathy was
genuinely having like a good. Time AND i don't think
anybody was thinking about THE cba or anything in that.

(27:23):
MOMENT i think we was just all cacking and vibing
having a good.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
Time speaking of THE, cba this is such an exciting,
season thirtieth season of THE. Wnba players are getting their.
Bag it feels like a level, up professionalized covered the
way that the league is promoting it everything. Else is
there any part of you that feels more pressure or
feels that the game is different because folks are now

(27:47):
knowing that you're actually getting paid a reasonable amount to
play as opposed to.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
Before, YEAH i feel, like you, know we we always
had that compete in us. REGARDLESS i feel like everybody
who's IN wnba and who plays this game just really
loves the game and every night is going out there
trying to, win you, know regardless of you, know what
we're getting.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Paid it's like our.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
JOB i feel like we still have a job to,
do so just going out there and trying to do
our job the best to the best of our, ability
and you, know represent our. Organizations but obviously with this
NEW cba and the amount of money that we're getting
paid THIS i feel like it's something that we. DESERVE
i feel like the game has, elevated the support has,

(28:32):
elevated AND i mean it didn't just, start you know
when when THE cba. Happened it started way back all
the people who have worked for. This SO i feel
like we're just getting paid what we were. DESERVED i
feel that there's still ways to go To, YEAH i.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
AGREE i also loved in THE cba the pay going
backwards to some of the players who helped found the
league and really thinking about that negotiations to really appreciate
the foundation that was. Set was talking to one of your, teammates,
Actually Lexi, brown who has a show on this, network
even just maybe two years ago now when she was
first getting To, seattle and she was, Like, yeah we
just got to always remember to keep the main thing

(29:09):
the main, Thing, like no matter what else is going,
on if basketball isn't, there we're not able to do
all the other stuff that's there because of. Basketball AND
i feel, like like you, said it's still your job
to get after, it to want to, win and that
has to be there for everything else to, follow including
those big. Paychecks speaking of the pay is there something
in THE cba outside of those huge salary increases that

(29:29):
excites you the.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
MOST i, MEAN i just found out about the developmental.
Spots you're able to have two players in the developmental,
pool AND i think that really goes a long, way
BECAUSE i feel, like just throughout my, Years i've seen
so many people in training camp THAT i wish could
have had a roster, spot but sometimes it's just not
what that team necessarily. Needs it doesn't have to always

(29:50):
do with the skill level of a. Player so being
able to have people still or two extra people around
the team help the, team and then you know when
they have an opportunity to, play they're there and they're.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
READY i think that's super.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Cool and if you think about, it to extra people per,
team that's a. Whole that's a lot of, people you.
Know SO i think that part about it is.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
COOL i, like, Yeah AND i think when you look
at teams like maybe The Indiana fever last, year they
got so decimated and added players Like Shape petty and
folks like that who came up and had a big,
role but we're not getting paid or treated in a
certain way because THE cba didn't really allow for those
players to be like legit on a. Roster it's really.
Cool last season when you were with The, links you

(30:35):
won The Sylvia Fouls Altruism. Award so that's The links
player that you, know, kindness, selflessness well being of the community.
Matters some might not know that side of, You so
tell us more about the work that you do and
why you won that.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
AWARD i just feel like you vote as a, team
SO i honestly was not expecting to win that. AWARD
i feel like just kind of a testament to HOW
i show up every day for my, teammates try to
bring like a lot of.

Speaker 2 (31:01):
Good energy and just be a good. PERSON i. DID
i don't.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
KNOW i loved like, animals SO i did some work
in the community with The Humane society and really just
being myself. Honestly SO i feel Like sylvia is obviously
the walking example of. That so to be able to
get an award after her obviously meant a lot to.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
Me do you have any pets In? Seattle?

Speaker 2 (31:25):
YEAH i have.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
FOUR i drove actually here From wisconsin to here SO
i could have all my pits with.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
Me tell me about. Them i'm a huge pet. PERSON
i have three.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
DOGS i got two cats and two, dogs so we
got in the. CAR i bet they Love. Seattle, Yeah
i'm not gonna. Lie the dogs especially are enjoying. It
it's just like a dog friendly. Community so they've. Been
they've been having a, ball.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Like so many hikes and beautiful places to take. Them
what kind of dogs are?

Speaker 3 (31:54):
THEY i got a doodle in a. Multisee oh my,
god not WHAT i.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
Was, YEAH i, know you got the little fancy. Ones, okay,
okay you KNOW i was reading The vogue article AND
i really liked that you And courtney both said of
each other that you wanted everyone to know how sweet you,
are what a, kind, like, like good hearted person you,
are which is fun in addition to how silly and

(32:18):
goofy and hilarious you can. Be what do you want
the new fans In seattle to know about you before
the season tips.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
OFF i feel like the best way that they could
get to know me is just tap into a. STREAM
i feel like a lot of best, well you, know
on the, chorus just serious, business you know you're, Working
but off the, COURT i feel LIKE i just like
to have a lot of. FUN i like to just
get out in. Nature i'm with my dogs and pets a,
lot SO i really just like to vibe and be

(32:45):
around good, energy good. People BUT i would say that's
basically how you describe.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
Me it's just a good, vibe good. ENERGY i like.

Speaker 1 (32:53):
It and you've got a, great, great great tour Guide
Ince Sue bird up there to help you find all
