Speaker 1 (00:03):
Good Luck with That is an iHeart women's sports production
in partnership with Deep Blue Sports and Entertainment.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hey skaters, welcome back to Good Luck with That.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
It's another week and another time to talk about skateboarding.
Joining me today is nor of Asconcellos and Flotsam.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Alex White and I'm your host where all your hosts?
Ashley Raevel shoot me out. She's better at podcasting than
we are. Guys, I need to cut my banks. What
is this? Cut them while we talk about the news.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Sonora is going to give herself a Bangs trim while
we talk about the news.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah, Alex, take us back to Rome. Women's Street finished
up over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Yeah, so the Women's Street event.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
This is the first qualifier for the Olympic cycle that
finished up this weekend. Chloy Cabell took the win. Second
place was Yumika oh Death, Third place was cenchi Q.
Chloe dominated in the run section. She got like an
e and then landed in the best trick sension of
Front Blood Big spin Out and got an eighty five
point eight and basically won the contest there So, because
(01:09):
there was no way everybody else's run scores were so
low there was no way they were going to make
up the space, so it became a battle for second, third,
and fourth place.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Koy landed it and she's like, now what do I do?
Speaker 4 (01:19):
And then she went and like nosegrind Nolly flipped out
the rail just for fun to make up a higher score.
But talk about like a relief, just walk through and
want it described the rail.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
It's not just like it's a rail, like it's a
fucking huge rail that she blunt big spin out of
and it's made of real gold. That's what nobody knows.
It's Yeah, it's this really long, mellow rail.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
On either side of it there's kickers, and then you
can approach it from the flat. She approached it from
the kicker side from blunt big spin out. It was
a crazy trick. She also did that back in Japan too,
so she's got that trick kind of in the bag
as well as nosegrind nolliflips out. And it's pretty hard
in the best trick section to compete with those level
of tricks.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
I mean, hyas Leal also got a.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Seventy nine for a back tail shove it, but everybody
else was just basically battling for second, third, fourth place
at that point because Chloe had stealed the deal and
Paige Heines switched Smith grind that rail too, which we
have never seen in women's street. She got an eighty
four point seven six for that, So page is coming
out the gates really strong. That was the highest American
(02:27):
placing of the event. But yeah, Chloe from Australia taken
the win.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
So sick. Did you see any highlights from Kylie? Frank, No,
Kylie was in the open division.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
I don't They don't broadcast anything before quarterfinals, so I
don't know where Kylie ended up.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
I don't know where any of the other Americans ended up.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
But yeah, there was that open call for submissions, a
video submission to maybe be able to show up at
this event and qualify.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
For the Road to LA twenty twenty eight.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
And it was cool to see that the USA two
was smart to just be like, we're going to just
do an open submission for this and see who comes out.
And on the men's side, that's where I feel like
it got really interesting seeing the USA talent change.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Can you get me up to speed, Alex.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Yeah, Julian Aguilardi too got one of the highest scoring
best tricks. He did the kickliff front blood pixman on
that same rail that I was just talking.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
About with Chloe, But.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
That was It's kind of an interesting backstory with Julian.
He could have skated for Team France but ended up
skating for a Team America his dad's French, which is
a huge win for the USA team considering how talented
he is and how able he is to show up
at these big events. Women of Washington the first ever
Women of Washington take over of the DIY down there
(03:46):
in San Diego. That was put on by just like
a community group right right, Ashley. It was just like
the group of skaters that wanted to take over.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
It was cool to see there was some like sponsorship
level support down there. Really rad crowd came out. All
the right skaters who can skate that style of transition
were there.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
The roster was big.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
I think this means that this inaugural event by next
year is going to be a real thing.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
No.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
I think what the Washington Street event looked like to me,
which is I love most about it is a real
grassroots event. It's people that really wanted to do this event,
and you saw it. At every level there was handmade trophies,
so they had jams on each obstacle, and if you
won that obstacle, you got this sculpture of the obstacle.
(04:32):
And if you won overall, like Ruby Lily did, you
got this really sick skull sculpture. I mean, I don't
know who made the trophy art, but I was like,
that was such a cool touch. So if you won
the spine, you got this little like spine dish trophy
that's so sick.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
It's crazy how consistently how comfortable everyone is at Washington Street,
because I know Ruby's been skating it.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Quite a bit.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Brice Gray, Yes, yeah, they made it look like just
so casual, and that place is not casual.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Another standout was Asahi Kaiahara, who just turned pro for
Blood Wizard. She came out and she skated so good,
especially in the bowl section up top. There's this really
gnarly pool at the very top of Washington Street, and
she crushed it, so all the skaters ripped out there.
I saw he was a standout. Bryce was a standout.
Ruby was a standout. Nina Agular was a standout. Everybody
(05:28):
was standing out. Grace Marhofer too was a stand I
mean like everybody was ripping. I don't know how they
skate that place.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Also, when you said all the skaters were out there,
all I could think of us, all the things she said.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Anything she said, all run there.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
All the skaters skated against a chain link fence Washington Street.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Crying in the rain.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
This weekend in Sacramento, California is the first ever X
Games League kickoff, so we will be watching those city
clubs New York, LA, Tokyo, Sound, Apollo all skate against
each other.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
This format's never been done before.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
We're watching bmxer's contribute to the skateboarding team, and what
is cool is the equal amount of participation from men
and women per city club. So with that being said,
I'm interested to see how this shows up. It is
not about the individual skateboarder.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
It's about the team.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
And right now there are some teams that have had
some already injuries that have shooken up the roster, so
there is a little bit of to be determined. There
is a little bit of that crowd buzzer moment that
we need to make competitive skateboarding compelling to watch.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Is it going to work?
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Come back find out next week with us. We'll see.
But it's going down in Sacramento. I know they're trying
to get people to go check it out. I'm sure
you can stream it live on YouTube. But yeah, that's
what's happening in the world of women in gender expansive
skateboarding as we know it.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Nora, welcome back. You just got back from Hawaii. I did.
I just got back from Maui. It was beautiful. Got
to yeah, got to go back to some of the
spots I used to skate and hang out at it.
It was just like so nice, didn't want to leave. Yeah,
you came back in the night. I saw you.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
You were wearing like a Hawaii shirt, a new chain
that said Maui.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
I think you might even even had a cap on
that might have been supporting the island you were, and
you came back like five shades stark.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Yeah, you got to give got to give back to
the economy when you're over there. Yeah, it was insane,
Like the only semi I wouldn't call it a complaint,
but like the only thing that I would have changed
was to.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Have a little bit of surf. It was like totally flat.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
And then the day we flew out was this big
sousewell that had been obliterating the West coast finally like
made its way over there. But it was just like
eating super good food, usitying old friends. I got to
skate Keyhy Park or Kalamba Park, and it used to
we used to have to jump the fence because the
(08:11):
park got redone and it was like this fun little
concrete park, but they had the basically a shell of
this vert ramp in mini ramp that they hadn't finished.
They hadn't like resurfaced it, and so the park had
been shut down for like a while. But you could
jump the fence and skate like the new concrete. So
we would do that and now and I went the
(08:33):
it's all been resurfaced. So yeah, it was just fun.
It's like, I don't know, don't go there. It's not
fun at all just getting go there, but go there,
go there, spend your money, support the people. It's pretty,
it's pretty dreamy. But yeah, I really want to go
back and like film again, because so there's anywhere I
(08:57):
got spots that's like the place I actually nowhere all
the spots.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Sorry, so that would be really really fun. Here you
from that entire rendezvous part there.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
I want to re edit it to not Nicki minaj
I know.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
What we could. We couldn't have known at the time,
we really could. You really can't. You don't know what's
going to happen with these people.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Yeah, did you guys see that meme of It's two
women in an intense conversation they're clearly sharing some like
hot gossip with each other, and it says under the
one person twenty sixteen, and then the other person says
twenty twenty six, and it's like the person who is
twenty twenty six is like mouth jaw open in horror
(09:37):
of the information that twenty sixteen sharing to twenty twenty
six person. It's like the perfect like, yeah, if someone
would have told us, So, here's what's going to happen
in this next decade.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Nora is going to be gay. That's it. That's all
they was said. And the person's like, I knew it.
I knew it. I knew it, And here I am Alex.
I couldn't help.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
But notice you had kind of a legendary skate session
with Vanessa Taurus and Amy Coron. It looked like this,
like flashback of you guys when you used to skate
in the present, and it was just like, I don't
know what made it look more like you guys always.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Skate, but this one particular felt like this like.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Meeting reunion that we've been waiting for, that the internet
has been waiting for.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
It looked so incredible.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Yeah, I'm really just riding that high still right now, Ashley,
So thank you for asking me. Amy and Vanessa are
my favorite people to skate with. We've been skating together
for thirty years. Amy was doing what she always does,
which is being too cool to try hard. Vanessa Torres
is the most naturally gifted skateboarder of all time. She
does everything without effort, and I am trying to impress them,
(10:48):
and that was how the session went.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Salid, Well, look cool.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
I think you should put some hard post clips out
there so we can tune in. We're waiting for the
real Villavilla Cola Reunion tour video to happen. So that
was just one part of the one part of the
lesions happening.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
And Ashley, you haven't been posting anything, so I don't
know what's going on with you.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
What's your updates? That's great.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Yeah, I gave up on the be Brave post hard
what happened there?
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Updates are still in La. I'm still thriving.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
I'm having a really good time hanging out with Nora
and everyone, and we're talking about spots. We're looking at spots.
We're going to skate parks. We need to be going
to spots.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Updates are what are the updates? I don't know. I
don't have any.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Well, you seem to be thriving in southern California, and
I'm happy for you that you're surrounded by all of
our friends and getting to get out amongst it and
maybe go golfing after this.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Yeah, it's just summertime, you know. Vibes are high, so
I'm going with the flow and uh, things are good.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
I do need to post. I'm sorry. I like it's
just too much. I would write it is too.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
Quiet, dark, private corners. It's not too much when we post. Wow,
the people really have an opinion about it, that's for sure.
Some of the feedback is which listeners thank you for
being with us, because when we're online, a lot of
the people who do end up finding us it is terrifying.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
It was pretty like I would say, it was pretty disheartening.
I just think that they're keeping us humble guys. Right,
someone's got to Apparently someone's got it. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
The consensus is we don't know anything about skateboarding. We
are not qualified to talk.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
About skate throw pro skaters, Olympic liberal women.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
We are lesbian liberal women, right.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Therefore we shouldn't exist. And nobody wants to be in.
I love the comment that was like this blunt rotation
would never want to be in, and I'm like, I don't.
You were never invited ever, But if you're listening, obviously
you're invited.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
We're doing show and tell.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
Now there's can you tell us, Nora what you brought
to the class to show and tell?
Speaker 2 (13:14):
I brought my cat, Flotty, Hi Flotty. She is really cute.
She likes to pee in opportune places and she knows
says she's a pretty girl. For show and tell.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
I brought this cross stitch that my girlfriend made and
it says old fashioned tomboy. And this was from a
comment on YouTube where somebody wrote under a video of
me skating with Andrew Cannon, that's what I like to
see an old fashioned tomboy, no body modification.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Wow. Wow, that's so sick, that's so tight. What did
you bring, Ashley? I brought this little creature.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Named Barry Berry, you know, for I was listening. I'm
holding a tiny dog with huge ears. He's brindle, he's
about ten pounds. He's got a white and chested coat.
He was a stray dog found in la. He has
got really long legs that don't fit his body, and
he's got a tiny little face and his actual like
(14:17):
torso tapers in the funniest way. He's like a He's
like one of Nora's skateboards from Welcome.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
He's an eight point to a two par He's a
perfect shape.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Congratulations and again, love to remind you if you guys
need to see what we're talking.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
About, we are on YouTube.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
You can watch us there and comment all of your
hate there too, So one more place to let us
know how you really feel about it.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
You can tell us how much that woman shouldn't have
an opinion on YouTube.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Please.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
We've got a really cool guest on the show today.
We're so happy to have you.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Stay tuned, got the show and tell segments, Stay.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Joining me today is one of our favorite skaters out there,
Ariana Spencer.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Welcome to the podcast. What's Up? Where are you reporting
live from? Right now? Reporting live from Glendale. We're neighbors,
You guys are neighbors.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
You're kind of stuck inside right now, That's what I
hear from you, guys.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Yeah, curb smells like smoke every morning. It's really gnarly.
It's like only in the morning though. It's weird.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
I just feel for the community that's like in Boyle Heights,
Like sitting under that like plum of smoke right now
and just having to deal with it.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Yeah, that freaking suck.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
I like picture Glendale and I only think of the
mall and the Americana, like, and you like living there?
Speaker 2 (15:46):
For some reason in my head? Are you cheering for Argentina? Uh?
You know what. This shirt is just really comfy.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
It's a good shirt. But are you watching any World
Cup stuff?
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Nah? So bad?
Speaker 5 (16:01):
Really in this soccer? Yeah, it's a lot. It's a
lot to take in. Yeah, I don't know what's going on, and.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
So I feel like I've seen enough men crying on
the Florida satiate me for a lifetime. So I want
to hear about this upcoming Portland trip.
Speaker 5 (16:19):
Yeah, Portland and Seattle is just like kind of like
a demo trip. And then just trying to get clips
for the next Secunity video. I don't know when it's
coming out, but probably sometime this year, next year, I
don't know, just trying to stack.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Yeah, literally, I need to.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
I have a question about the dynamic of like a
Jacuzzi trip.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Like I feel like everyone there's like the trouble maker.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
There's like that one person that always is trying to
get wed.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
There's like the person.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Getting the most clips. Like how would you describe yourself?
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Uh? I feel like I don't know.
Speaker 5 (16:57):
I kind of go with the flow. Those guys are
like pretty good. Hold me so, like I feel like
I'm a mix of like everything.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Yeah, it's easing those dudes. Yeah, it's it's really neat.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Do who you been like butting up with most on
the Jacuzzi team since you joined this year?
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Right?
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Uh? I've always known Gus for a while.
Speaker 5 (17:17):
I was gonna say, yeah, Gus telling me like yeah, yeah,
probably those two dudes. Yeah, but yeah, Jayanko just joined too,
and he's really sick.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Okay, so up front to get our listeners. Locked in.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Your sponsors are Chacuzzie, Unlimited, Spitfire, Bronson, Who's who who
them trucks under U, BENCHU, and Folcom still in the mix.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Now that stopped maybe like a year ago.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Like Losers and Converse too, or what's up the Converse?
Speaker 3 (17:55):
Yeah, converso, Yeah, I kind of want to know, like
difference of a Jacuzzie trip to a Converse trip. Well,
I feel like the most of the trips I've been
on is Converse trips. And I'm like really used to
like having everything paid for and being like pampered and
having a nice hotel room and everything, and uh, I
(18:17):
mean Jacuzzi, like you definitely have to like pay for
your own stuff and yeah, I don't know that is
not as pampered.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
Well, that's like not something that you're new to by
any means, like coming up by way of the Midwest
and moving out here.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
I mean you've really.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
Talked about some of the some of the ways you've
earned your spot in pro skateboarding.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
I guess just like filming video parts.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Yeah, like growing up in the Midwest, what was the
first your first exposure to skateboarding, Like where did you
first see it?
Speaker 2 (18:49):
And you're like, oh, I think I want to do that.
Speaker 5 (18:52):
I think just like my brother got a board from
a garage sale and he started skating and he made
a look fun and I always wanted to copy my brothers.
So that's pretty much it. And then like watching like
MTV and stuff like the like Viobla band. For the
longest time, I didn't know like girl skaters like existed,
and I would literally just type in girl skateboarding on
(19:14):
YouTube and like the that Villa Villa Cola stuff popped up,
and I would watch like Vanessa tourres a lot.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
And uh, what's Amy Karen Amy?
Speaker 5 (19:26):
Karen Amy Coron, Yeah Corone, Yeah, those two I feel like, yeah,
those are the first like girl skaters I like saw well.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
And then the your the patron saint of Illinois skateboarding,
your favorite skateboarder.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
That took a while though, to like know who Marissa was,
because like I was still in a pio and then
going back and forth to like my dad's in Chicago.
That's when I like, not until I was probably like seventeen,
is when I like found out about Marissa kind of and.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
Your balance between your dad D's house in Illinois at
your mom's house in Ohio and then at one point
you decide to make the move out to Long Beach
and like really try to be a pro skater. Can
you talk about the motivation for that and that experience.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
Yeah, my friend Thomas father lives in the Long Beach
and my my baby daddy's like best friends growing up
like skating with him and stuff. So he kind of
got me into an old Thomas And uh, Thomas just
has a crew that from Illinois that lives in Long
Beach that would go out like every single day and
skate and they kind of just like adopted me in
(20:34):
and just started filming. And then that's when we started
filming like the Crux part, and then it turned into.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
A Thrasher part.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
And then you would like Alex would send us like
pretty much wherever we wanted to skate, and we would
just go to your footage.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
So sick at this point in the time, like okay,
we just went back to like where are you group skating?
Speaker 2 (20:53):
When you group skating? Now of a sudden, we're in
Long Beach. Can I just like get like a rain?
What this was?
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Like you started skating at this age then you were
like fuck it.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
I'm gonna make this my pursuit at this age.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
So yeah, I started skating around like twelve, kind of
like stopped in between like in high school for like
sports and stuff. And then after doing a year at
college and not like in that, I just like kept
skating and I was like should I should? I tried
to get like sponsored or something and got a board
sponsored in Chicago, and then I always wanted to live
(21:32):
in California, And that's kind of when I wanted to
move to California. That's when I started like skating with Thomas,
and yeah, I just knew I wanted to live in
Long Beach after like coming out so many times Italians.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
But like, your move isn't like most people's move because
you had a baby when you move.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (21:50):
Yeah, she was like three and yeah she was Yeah,
we went across country with her.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
She was really getting a car.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
My dad drove like the U Haul and it was
probably like a three day trip to get from uh
Chicago to Long Beach and it would happen pretty fast.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
So yeah, it was jo What was that like to
like move to California balancing like a toddler and then
also balancing trying to get out and like get clips.
Speaker 5 (22:19):
In the beginning, it was hard because back in Chicago
she had like a daycare she would go to, and
like being a new restaurant out there, he had to
like do so many new things and like look for
daycares and.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Stuff like that. And like the daycare at got Heran.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
Was only like like maybe like four hours long, so
like I wouldn't really have that much time, like at
least during the week to like go skate. So but
I mean I would like try to make it happen,
and then like on the weekends, like her dad would
like watch her so I can go skate.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
I remember seeing you.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
One time at a at the fucking Awesome event with
her and she was probably like five and yeah, and
it was like the moment that they had set up
the police car for the guys to like jump over,
and it was like you guys and her on someone's shoulders.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
I was like Arianna and then you were like what's up?
And it was just like chaos.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
But it was just sick that she was like getting
amongst it, because like I am envisioned being a mom
and just being like, yep, we're going to the We're
going to the demo like let's go.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Yeah, that was sick. I think. I don't think Sure
even remembers that, Yeah before I don't.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Yeah, I'll tell her about it one day.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Yeah, I would have loved to have been at the
table when you had to be like, what's up, fam,
I'm gonna just move from Chicago with my kid and
just lock in on. The odds are completely stacked against
me for a professional skateboarder year, but I love it
and I'm gonna make this that much harder to be
a parent and go to Long Beach. So I just
(24:00):
it's like what I like think we're all trying to
like get at, is like the level.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Of sacrifice and the bet you took on yourself so.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
You could have a better life in what you wanted
to dream and aspire to so that your daughter could
see that is incredible and it's like full of so
much risk, And I think that's the thing, Like we
talk about women skateboarding and the sacrifice that it is,
but like you had another person's life involved in that risk,
which is massive.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Were they supportive or was their pushball for sure that
My dad was definitely like yeah, you should do it,
because like I.
Speaker 5 (24:34):
Don't think any of my siblings like live like close by,
so he's like, yeah, you should do it, and he
was like hyped to like move us out there and
stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
But yeah, definitely was risky. Like I remember I moved.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
It was like kind of during COVID, so I had
so much COVID money saved up, but like after like
paying for everything, I was kind of like ass out
and I was like kind of relying on like the
converse stuff, and I didn't know, like when you sign
a contract, like it's still going to take for it
to come. So there's like a couple months where I
(25:10):
was just like stressing, like man, what am I gonna do?
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Buy me? And it obviously all worked out. So yeah,
it definitely was really risky totally.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
I mean, did you also see that there was like
a bigger discrepancy with like it's expensive to live in California,
Like it's this hard thing of like in order to
be like amongst it and getting clips and skating, You're
moving to like one of the most expensive places in
the country. You're losing like square footage probably most likely
(25:40):
you're driving around everything is significantly more expensive.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
It's just like NonStop definitely is. But I feel like
no matter where you go, it's like going to be expensive.
So yeah, I tried. I try to not think about
that as much.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
But I have so many friends from Illinois and Long Beach,
like they always had my back, so like it's just
like family.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
I felt like secure with them around. It takes a village.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
Are you more productive on a trip like with jacuzzi
or more productive at home?
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Getting clips?
Speaker 5 (26:13):
Definitely on a trip because it's like different spots and
just not spots you see all the time in like La,
So it's definitely more motivating getting like clips on a trip.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Are you always asking them to take you to the
closest roof drop?
Speaker 5 (26:28):
No, but I do say, like, are there any like
cool roofs like gonna be there? I don't know, It's
been a while since I've been on a roof.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
You and the cold need an entire like roof part together,
just hitting all the roofs, all the drops.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
It could be like in the loop font but you
say roof roof Okay.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
But I also want to know, like when you're on
these trips, like we all have different experiences, we all
come from what we're carrying what's going on in our lives?
Speaker 2 (27:01):
Do we have injuries? Do we have this going on?
Do we have that going on in the background?
Speaker 3 (27:05):
How the fuck do you not get like resentful or
frustrated with the fact that, like your your frequency of
what you're managing is just so much bigger at times
than a lot of people that you're sitting next to
in a van. And even that within women's skateboarding, there's
like so much scarcity, Like there's always like we're like
biting for crumbs with each other, even though we try
(27:26):
not to and we say we're all supporting each other,
there's still a little at tension you have that plus that,
plus I'm a parent, And does that ever feel how
do you manage that?
Speaker 2 (27:38):
And you like seem to like keep it so cool
and like generous with.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
Everyone still it might seem chill on the outside, but
on the inside it's not at all, Like at all.
I just started to like just go with the flow
and just be positive because it can get pretty dark sometimes.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
That yeah, I just want to stay like, I don't know,
mellow if.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
You're like stressing, Like sometimes I get this way where
especially if I'm like under a deadline or like been
going back to get a trick, going to a spot
or for whatever reason. If you're like stressing about skating,
what's the first thing you're gonna do that's not skateboarding
to like de stress.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Ooh, that's not skateboarding, bowling.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
No.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
I play Fortnite a lot, and I think that helps.
Hell Yeah, Like I.
Speaker 5 (28:29):
Think that helps a lot. So it's probably just like
video games. Yeah, and I'm not like a video game person.
I kind of just got into this like six months
ago and it's so fun.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Yeah, that's your whole Yeah, that's your like safe space
hold like decompress.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
Yeah, I guess so, I don't know. I clean a
lot of that. That's probably helps with stress.
Speaker 6 (28:50):
Now I want to know what yours is, Nora, What
is my destress activity? Shopping or like like dining dining eating, Yeah, yeah,
and like the other side of life, like you're you know,
(29:12):
you get the yeah yeahs out with skating and other
sport activities, and then you're gonna go experience the tastes
and the.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Lights of the world, the finer things. Yeah, I swear.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
I think like if there's like an avenue in my
life that I could definitely like re.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
Direct my.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Like, I'm definitely like a shopaholic, Like I definitely use
that as like a a relaxing I don't know it's like,
but here's my theory. I think it's the hunter and
gatherer in me. Like I think there's something in my
reptile brain that's telling me that, like I need to
like collect all of these items. I mean, look behind me.
(29:57):
This is like my office where I like make shit.
But it's still like, I don't know, it's it's bad.
Maybe I should get into video games.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
It's fun. How do we find you on Fortnite?
Speaker 3 (30:09):
How do we link up and get it?
Speaker 2 (30:14):
It's oh damn it to you, it's weird.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Yeah, it's private. She's not airing that out. I swear that, Nora,
your decompression. What I is sending reels is the scroll,
the deep scroll. I know that you are like in
it when I get like twenty reels from you.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
Oh, I am chronically online, but I've been better about it.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Actually, we just went.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
To Hawaii and my like time on my phone dropped
by like a lot, Like I was on my phone
an eighth of the time that I usually am. And
then I got home and had like too much stuff
to do, and I feel like I haven't regained.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
But then again, maybe you've got twenty reels for me.
The other day.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
If I'm watching TV, though, like in bed at night,
I'm also scrolling, like I have to be, Like, I'm
like a two screen person.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
It's really bad, which have you seen. That's why they're
making shows like that much Dummer so we can do both.
They're like making sentences so much easier to like hear
it and scroll, and then like simplicity of storylines.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
So if anyone's.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
Complaining about how uncreative the experience of watching something it is,
it's because we're fucking ruining it with our phone.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Oh I hate that.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
We'll be right back with Ariana Spencer on good luck
with that the podcast.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Ariana, what's up with your like relationship to the online
internet world? Like it's part of your job, you know,
That's how we all got exposed to you in the
first place. You were putting out video parts and we're like,
who is this little whipper snapper who's got a really like.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Aggressive and sick way to skate?
Speaker 3 (32:02):
You gotta post, you gotta be online, Like, what's that
experience like for you?
Speaker 5 (32:07):
Well, I'm a big TikToker. I love TikTok. I probably
posted TikTok like sometimes like three times a week, but
Instagram not as much. I like posting to my story
just like funny stuff because I feel like people nowadays
are afraid to post like just stuff because it's.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
Gonna think people are judging. But I don't know. I'm
trying to post to Instagram at least like once a month.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
I have screen grab some shit from your stories that
are so funny, like it, and it always like I
know what you're saying, Like a lot of the humor
stuff it'll come from TikTok.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
You had.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
You had shared this one post that was like this
chick complaining about when people come at you and are
talking at you with like foam in their mouth and
like white shit in the corners of their mouth. And
I literally saved this TikTok to my phone because it's
like so funny.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
So keep it out till thank you, thank you. It's
I will. It's brilliant, it really is.
Speaker 5 (33:08):
Yeah, I definitely have some stuff in the vault that
I like to sit on and then post it.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Test the waters. Yeah, some crazzy stuff, well not too
long ago.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
You just posted like all your archival footage, like from
thirteen years ago to your YouTube, which is something I
just washed through.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
What was it like going through the vault?
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Me?
Speaker 4 (33:30):
Yeah, it's on your It's on your YouTube channel. It's
from thirteen years ago.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Really, I kind of want to look. I don't. I mean,
going through the vault's crazy.
Speaker 5 (33:40):
Like sometimes I feel like I was better at skating,
like mentally back thanks, I didn't care as much, but
style definitely improved.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
I don't remember posting that. I'm like interested.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
Now, Yeah, you gotta check your your own YouTube channel, Ariana.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Was it a real or a short?
Speaker 3 (34:02):
You know?
Speaker 2 (34:02):
It was a video. It was like a full video.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
It's like like thirteen years ago footage of you s
getting this prefab park. You're like back fifteen in front,
fifteen down the stairs, and your friends are like swimming
in a lake.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
I don't I really want to see that. I don't
remember post of that.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
Your daughter did, Oh look key, she might have she's
on my YouTube.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Wait really, dang, I'm go watch it. That's so sick.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
Well, listeners, you should probably watch it too, we all should.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Thirteen years ago, that's that's a look.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
Back watching your progression as a skateboarder has been such
a delight, so thank you for all the work behind that.
Is there is there like a trip or a part
that just feels like something you're deeply proud of and
like really happy that that's out in the world forever now.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
Honestly, like the part I feel No Thomas, that was
like my intro.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
To like pilot good yeah, pilot.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
To going on like trips and stuff like that and
just like really filming all the time. So I'm I'm
pretty proud of that and I did it with Thomas.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
It's like the homisode, it's like meaningful. How long was
that filming process for I don't know.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
Like eight months, would you say eight months to Alex Yeah, yeah,
just about that.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
Well, it was great because it was a project that
was originally we're going to do a Crux part, and
then like the guys at Thrash were like, this is.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
Too good for a Crux part. It's going to be
a part and we're like that even better good, what
a compliment. That's huge.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Yeah, it's like crazy, you know, working behind the scenes,
like trucks is usually when you have a truck you
ride for a truck brand and you have an opportunity
to have a part. It's a lot of the time
throwaway footage. It's not it's like where that side project.
It's the side of the side. So I think it's
even such a bigger compliment that you started there expecting
(35:51):
it to be a side project and it went to
the full feature film like you were upfront and put
in the mainstream that way, so speaks volumes to your skateboarding.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Yeah, thank you. That opened so many doors.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Well, wasn't it going to be a turnstile song originally?
And we couldn't get the right.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Yeah, they're charging like fifteen K and yeah, it didn't work.
Speaker 5 (36:12):
But it's funny because the last Converse video, uh, they
said that they would do it for free, like a
song for free, and I was like over it.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
But Evergreen, I honestly think that that's probably your best part.
Is there a reason why you didn't do a bean
plant in the Converse video?
Speaker 5 (36:28):
Oh Man, there's like there's like a few tricks I
didn't do in there that I wish I did, But.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Yeah, I don't know. There's a lot going on for
me during that video Part two. That's why I say that.
I don't. I don't.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
I'm like proud of it, but I don't. I could
I could have done like way better.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
I think that was a really good part, the fifty
to fifty on that freeway underpass thing into the bomb
you know on that green that was gnarly thank you where.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
That was Kansas City.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
And it's funny like the the few like bangers I
have in that part, like my homemade bod like always
had to like fix the spot for me, so it
was like, dang, actually I got to do it now
since he's like fixing it.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
So I don't know, it's kind of funny. It feels
like that's a theme for you. It's like the pressure
when it's there, like it's on, like the tail drop
in Puerto Rico that you had to you shot the photo,
got the ad, and then you had to go and
get the video clip. But it was like a year
later and it was the last day of the Converse trip,
so it was like.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
That was so much man.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
I mean, pressure definitely works, but man, the build up
literally the last day of the trip, last spot and
we'd go there, so much pressure.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
But I remember I did it in like four tries.
So it was sick.
Speaker 5 (37:48):
How'd you celebrate? Probably just beer? Uh, just beer, just beer.
I think I had a few on the way though too.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
I haven't seen you in real life and quite a
bit y.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Yeah, get to South Pass, Alex, I know I need
to come down there and visit.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
I'll watch your daughter so you can get a clip.
There's a new there's a new role opening up in
the TM. It's called the babysitter role, and I'm I'm in.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
There's a lot of dudes having kids now that could
be a thing, that could be a.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
Thing, that could be kind of sick. I'll take the
kids any day. They complain way less than the adults. Yeah, seriously,
Like we're the babies.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
They're like so just like optimistic and happy and down
to try, down to fail down for whatever.
Speaker 5 (38:38):
Like I think we're the daddies with the daddy's and
the mommy's carrying the daddy.
Speaker 4 (38:44):
I mean, I guess now that you're on Jakoozi, you
got a real team daddy with uh Louis.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
His son's so adorable. Yeah, he's so cute. Your daughter
knows you skate. She's only known that. I can't wait
when she's an adult to like look back at it,
but like, yeah, what's your relationship to her in skateboarding
and being a parent.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
She doesn't really care about skating.
Speaker 5 (39:05):
Like I've tried to get her to skate, and she will,
she'll roll around for like a little bit to like
just impress me, but like she doesn't really care. So
like I don't know, I'll take her out skating with
me and she'll just like ride her bike around or
like be on her iPad sadly sometimes, But yeah, I
(39:26):
don't know. It's like I don't want to like pressure
her into skating, which also, I mean I've thought about
pressuring her into skating because I could make a really
good skateboarder, but that's just so much work, you know,
Like I don't don't understand how cares do that truly.
Speaker 4 (39:41):
Yeah, you don't have the disposition for like a stage.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
Mom, I'm sorry, I did go do what you want.
You grew up like also playing like traditional sports.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
I'm kind of curious, Like I feel like every skateboarder
there was like an athletic predisposition, and sometimes it was
in like a what were some of the sports you
played in high school and focused on.
Speaker 5 (40:03):
From fifth grade to senior year, I did basketball, and
then from ninth grade to like twelfth grade, I did
track and field and basketball at the same time. But
track was like I was, like, my plan was to
run track in college, and I like did it for
(40:23):
like a little bit, and I just like hated it
so much and I just like stopped doing it. But
track was definitely like the probably the funnest for me
because like everyone on the team was really fun to
hang out with. I mean, you just there's so much
downtime in track you can just like goof off like
a lot.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
So what was your favorite like track activity, because there's
like long jump, triple jump, sprint, Yeah, shot put.
Speaker 5 (40:53):
I did long jump, and I did the four by
one and four by two, and I would do the
open four hundred sometimes, but I'd say like that just
like four by two. Really it was really fun because
I wasn't like I was really fast, but I wasn't
good at like just sprinting right away, so like two
hundred do you have so much time to build up
(41:14):
and then sprint, So I think four x two was
my favorite.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
That's so sick.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
Yeah, does that ability to run fast help you chase
your board down, giant drop ins now.
Speaker 5 (41:26):
Loki, I think it does, but I haven't ran that
fast and so long, and I'm so freaking rusty.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Do you ever like run or no? When I first
moved to.
Speaker 5 (41:37):
Long Beach, the first like year and a half, I
was like running like a lot, but then I got.
Speaker 2 (41:42):
Like runners knee and I was like, I'm not dealing
with that, so I just stopped. So fair. Yeah, Hey,
did you guys do any sports in high school? I
did soccer? What about you guys? Swimming soccer? I was
a goalkeeper? Surprise, surprise. Wow. How is your process with
filming area?
Speaker 4 (41:59):
Are are you asking to be taken to spots like
you guys are probably putting out on a Jacuzi video?
Speaker 2 (42:04):
You're not sure?
Speaker 4 (42:05):
When do you have like a list in check marks?
Or you kind of go with the flow? What's your process?
Speaker 5 (42:10):
I like go with the flow, but I need to,
like I need to get a list. That's like I'm
I'd probably be more productive if I had a list,
but yeah, I usually go with the flow. Or like
the filmer already has some like spots lined up for me,
so I like try to skate that whatever they have.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
Who's a filmer working with Jacuzi right now, Devin Lopez.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
We talk about this all the time with all of
our guests and on the show, Like you're probably usually
the only female in the van more often than not,
unless it's a converse trip, and then I'll maybe maybe
maybe jump up to one more maybe two.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
At best, But like, how do you manage you.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Know, the amount of like time on the field if
you will that it's your turn. Finally you're at a
spot that you can actually skate versus like the eighty
five percent of the trip that is not going to
be in your favor.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
Usually the filmer like already has stuff for me, so
like we make it a point to like go to that.
It's usually better when it's a smaller squad too. If
it's a really big squad.
Speaker 5 (43:16):
I don't really want to like skate in front of
that many people, you know, like we can sucks sometimes
it's like it's like torture sometimes, but uh, I don't know,
And I aestedly just see how this Jacuzzi one is
because it's gonna be like enjoy too. So I mean
(43:38):
I kind of know like most of the guys on
the team, but we'll see how it goes, because sometimes
I get like nervous to skate in front.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
Of like the dudes even though I know them, So like,
I don't know, do you guys ever feel like that
all the time? Yeah, Nora tell us about it. Yeah,
all the time. It's nuts. It's like I kind of it.
I think it like depends too on just like how
you're personally feeling.
Speaker 1 (44:04):
Like if I'm feeling really good on my skateboard, it's
one thing, but once like you get in your own
head for like even a second or two, so it's
like a spiral.
Speaker 2 (44:17):
That's why I like Converse trips.
Speaker 5 (44:19):
I load when Alexis was on the trips, yeah, because
like seems like so you would just skate no matter what.
Is she such like a boss when it comes to
that stuff. Would you ever get Baka on trips too?
Speaker 3 (44:29):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (44:30):
Yeah, he helps out a lot. When whenever Baka is
on a trip, it's like for sure.
Speaker 1 (44:34):
I was gonna say, like, I feel like Alexis, Sammy Vaka.
There's like a few people that just like have a
certain energy to be around that like keeps it.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
I don't know, you're like.
Speaker 1 (44:47):
For me personally, I'm like I just don't want to
disappoint anybody, and then it's like, yeah, for real, I'm like, yeah,
you get so in your head.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
Yeah, it definitely helps when like those people are like
on a troop.
Speaker 4 (45:01):
Well, and there's also like this difference between when you're
the young you're the underdog coming up, and then you
are an established pro.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
You know.
Speaker 4 (45:08):
I imagine for both of you, when you start having
some success and then you're at a certain level and
you have a pro board, do you feel like you
have different expectations of yourself as before when you were
just fresh.
Speaker 5 (45:19):
I feel like I got like more insecure, like when
I turned pro, and I just overthink every little thing
I do, and I just think everything's whack.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
It's so true.
Speaker 1 (45:29):
It's kind of hard for me to stay sometimes. Do
you ever try to like think about like being fifteen
or seventeen again, Like sometimes I'll do that literally where
I'm just like, Okay, if I was fifteen or seventeen,
how would I be approaching or looking at the situation?
Speaker 2 (45:44):
Like it's such a weird mind game.
Speaker 1 (45:47):
But your brain is just like it's sometimes when it
gets into like that sabotage mode or like imposter syndrome.
Speaker 2 (45:54):
Mode.
Speaker 5 (45:55):
I'm trying to get better at like liking my skateboarding,
but I know it's it's been kind of good the
last couple of weeks, so hopefully this trip is uh
is good for me.
Speaker 4 (46:08):
Yeah, we'll be back with more from Ariana Spencer in
less than a fortnite after this quick ad break.
Speaker 3 (46:24):
You're a powerful skateboarder. It's fun to watch you skate
like it's exciting. There's like a bank from a viewer standpoint,
like I feel amped up and like ready to rip.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
Watching you skate.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
Uh so yeah, to hear that you're you struggle with
like seeing that too, I mean that's real. I feel
that same way and like I love that Nora Ah
you flagged like, oh do you ever like just think
about it when it used to be fun and I
got to a place where, like when working in hard
goods and at Deluxe, like I'd always be changing out
my equipment, Like we'd have a new wheel, we'd have
new truck, we'd have a new board.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
So I'd be.
Speaker 3 (46:56):
Changing out a new variable all the time to the
point where I'm like couldn't tell is it the thing
or is it me? And then I was like if
I was fifteen or seventeen or whatever age I my
like my shoes, my skateboard, none of that mattered. It
was just me skateboarding, like I could like make it
happen no matter what. And so it's so crazy how
(47:17):
much like mentally you can get in the way of
the joy and get in the way of just like the.
Speaker 2 (47:21):
Act of like doing it.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
There's always like something to like blame or like get
caught up in, and you're like, or we could just
have fun.
Speaker 1 (47:29):
I also feel like that's why so much of us
just want to go skate parks like South Pass that
are like somewhat basic but have these elements that maybe
we grew up skating. Like for me, I'm just like
I used to only skate wooden parks, so like prefab
to wood is really similar. And then like, yeah, quarter pipes,
(47:51):
give me quarter pipes. You're the only person who loves
South Pass.
Speaker 2 (47:54):
I mean that's not true if people love it, but like,
is it really that fun? Yeah, I just sick everybody
loves South Past. What are you talking about? Yeah? South
Past is it's good.
Speaker 5 (48:06):
It can get boring, for sure, It's fun, especially if
you have the right Sorry guys, I'm throwing daggers.
Speaker 1 (48:11):
I'm just saying I just feel like it's always like
it's just an easy spot to meet it gets a.
Speaker 2 (48:16):
Job done well.
Speaker 1 (48:17):
We got screwed over by like fucking plaza parks like
the last like ten to twelve years we got so
we got done so dirty because it was just like,
let's build a street league park and it's like, oh,
I can't wait to go skate this new park, and
like the main feature is like an eight to ten
(48:39):
stare hubbah, and like that's cool, but like that's not
what you like. There's so few even pro skaters who
are like can jump down shit every single day all
the time. And then like I was living in San
Diego and I had foods and it's like there's not
(49:01):
one quarter pipe.
Speaker 3 (49:03):
It's the disconnect if you're not like showing up to
like vote and put your time in. But then you
have to even know when that's like happening at a
local municipal level to like get involved and be like
I'm not good with this, Like I want a better design.
You need to show up with that mask, Nora that
you're wearing for those watching.
Speaker 2 (49:18):
If you don't give me to the meeting and be like,
fucking quarterpipe not it? This ain't it? I do anymore?
Speaker 3 (49:27):
Yeah, I don't. I think back though parks the evolution
of a skate park, though, we're definitely out of the
dark ages of like where a rail would just go
into the concrete and it would be like maybe you know,
less than ten inches off the ground.
Speaker 2 (49:41):
You're like, what the fuck even is this?
Speaker 3 (49:42):
I can't skate it, or the transition would be completely unskatable.
Then we moved into the dreamland exploitation of like why
do we have a fucking four million dollar like full
pipe that no one's going to skate?
Speaker 2 (49:56):
And then we went the extreme opposite way.
Speaker 3 (49:59):
Yeah, like really street Plaza, Hubbah forward not accessible skate parks.
Speaker 2 (50:06):
If you had a uterus, you would never build a
full pipe. Life is hard enough. It looks like a
birth canal.
Speaker 1 (50:12):
It's fine, but no, like if you experience any type
of menstrual cycle, you're not pouring concrete upside down.
Speaker 3 (50:20):
Okay, Yeah, we're getting there with this concept of a
little bit of the in between where it's like more
flat ground.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
Dude, the shit grindline's been building like in the Northwest
right now, like the last like five years of grindline
parks have been insane. There's also like this new one.
I think it's in like Grass Valley, California.
Speaker 2 (50:39):
That one looks so good.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
There's all those ones that are just like, really, oh
my god, best skate park I've ever skated?
Speaker 2 (50:50):
Is it North Bend, Washington.
Speaker 1 (50:53):
It's like outside Seattle, a couple hours outside Seattle. If
you're going up to like Glacier, it has this crazy
like it's the city where they filmed a bunch of
twin Peaks.
Speaker 3 (51:04):
So like, hold on, let me call chrisin Eblin. What
do you want in the future of your next year
and skate career?
Speaker 5 (51:11):
Like, what are some of the goals you're working towards?
Just clips? I need clips really bad. It's like the
only thing I can really think about. Clips and like
just some new stuff to look at, you know pretty
much it clips, clips, clips.
Speaker 1 (51:27):
I actually have some stuff I'm trying to look at
in the next few days. I'm gonna hit you up
because I think there are things that are similar that
we'd like.
Speaker 5 (51:35):
To skate in the area, as long as it's like
not you know, an apocalyptic sky situation.
Speaker 2 (51:40):
Speaking of actually I should send you.
Speaker 3 (51:42):
We've got a good group thread that we just need
to now merge you on that we've been sending spots to.
Speaker 2 (51:47):
We're gonna merge you in.
Speaker 1 (51:48):
We have a fun thread that we actually need to
like read it anyway, throw me.
Speaker 2 (51:53):
In there too, I can so you can be our honorary.
Uh just chime in. Listen.
Speaker 4 (51:59):
I'll give me a trial period, give me like thirty seconds,
and I'll prove that I belong in the thread.
Speaker 2 (52:06):
I have one question for Ariana.
Speaker 1 (52:08):
What is a dream spot or somewhere that you've not
skated or gone yet that you're like, oh, give me
ten days there.
Speaker 5 (52:15):
I want to go, like just like a place in
the world spots or just any spot, a.
Speaker 2 (52:20):
Place in the world on a zone. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (52:23):
I've never been to Australia. Seems like Australia's some cool stuff.
Speaker 1 (52:27):
I feel like you would just vibe Australia just like
the pub scene is just so fun, like everyone's just no,
I'm serious.
Speaker 2 (52:35):
I just feel like it's a good vibe.
Speaker 5 (52:38):
Like, oh yeah, sounds fun. I love pubs. Whatever, man, I'm.
Speaker 3 (52:44):
Over it, but I'll back I'll back Nora on the
part that like you're gonna like you're a good one
to bring on a trip and I say this and
we've never even been on a trip together, but.
Speaker 2 (52:55):
No, you're a chiller where you can hang.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
We have hung out though, Is yes, Like there's this
essential mix that needs to happen to have a good
trip experience and everyone knows how to kind of like
play their part, and you're able to play like the
whole part from start to stop, from being at the
spot being the skateboarder and then like putting on the
good show for the night and just having a good time.
(53:20):
Uh so you know, hopefully people know how lucky they
are to have you in the van with them.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
Is there like a dream? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (53:28):
I think that's interesting in Australia, But like the was
there a noticeable experience going on like a loop trip
versus you know, where you're kind of more independent into
your sponsors and being more in the Jacuzzi van or
Converse band. Was there something like that made that trip
more exciting for you?
Speaker 5 (53:46):
No, everyone kept saying like on the loop trip, they're
all like, is this how guys doel on troops? Because
like we could literally just like be ourselves and it
was like just never like a weird moment.
Speaker 2 (53:57):
So it was like, yeah, just be so.
Speaker 3 (54:01):
You know what Fabiana said to us the other night,
nor a were you there?
Speaker 2 (54:05):
You might have been or.
Speaker 3 (54:06):
This conversation was her referencing talking with Pedro about like,
you know, like how do you like keep the career
going and especially when like sponsors and pay changes, like
how do you keep that in mind? And his advice
was just like, essentially, like I wouldn't trade it for
the world because I get to spend all this time
with my best friends, just like traveling the world. And
(54:28):
her response was like the only time I ever got
to experience that essentially was on the loop trip like
if only, and she had that same exact experience, being like, oh,
this is what it.
Speaker 2 (54:37):
Feels like all the time.
Speaker 3 (54:39):
Yeah, no wonder you guys fucking love this and don't
want to go anywhere and give up your spot, Like.
Speaker 5 (54:44):
No wonder if trips rolling that all the time, I
wouldn't like like dread going on certain churchs.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
Sometimes, you know, like I'd be like.
Speaker 3 (54:53):
Even just a couple more soldiers, a couple more, like
not just one or two, but like a good a
good amount.
Speaker 2 (55:01):
Would be super nice.
Speaker 5 (55:03):
Yeah, I feel like you can't. I always need like
another girl on the trip. That makes it like that
much more comfy.
Speaker 2 (55:10):
Will it be another girl on the trip of the
Jacuzzi demo Tour? I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (55:16):
No. I think it's just me, but it should be too.
I salute you in your service on behalf of all
of us. We're sending your strength.
Speaker 2 (55:26):
Someone's gonna do it. Did you just open the door
for an animal? Kim, it's my boyfriend the dog. Can
we see the dog? Yeah, let's see the dog. Yeah. Yeah,
if we could see the dog, that'd be sick. He's
a little uh hi know, God best dogs. He's a
(55:48):
good boy. He looks like a good boy. You're heading
in the van? You're going? Are you guys driving from
LA all the way up? I think some are, But
I'm gonna fly to Seattle. Love that for you?
Speaker 3 (56:02):
Yeah, Tim in the van to be smooth. What is
feeling good right now in life? In skateboarding and being
a parent, Like what.
Speaker 2 (56:11):
Feels good now? And that I'm like healthy, feels good?
What tricks are feeling good? I like didn't skate for
like three weeks because I was like out of town.
Speaker 5 (56:22):
So like I'm like kind of just getting back kick
flats always feel good though, like that's nothing.
Speaker 3 (56:26):
Also, dream sponsor are we talking? Should we like call
Taco Bell up? Like what do we need to do
for you? What do you what do you want to
manifest while you're on this pod right now? Taco Bell
would be amazing? Old style beer would be so great.
Well old I'm gonna say old style. Old style would
(56:47):
be amazing. It's just like this cheap Chicago beer. I
brought like so much back with me that'd be sick
to have free beer. Okay, anything else, Just we're on
your dream right now. Keep the rider going.
Speaker 2 (57:02):
Don't dream simple. It's a Taco bill and old Whose
dad are you?
Speaker 1 (57:10):
Someone's dad's missing and they're here on camera with us
right now.
Speaker 2 (57:13):
I just need this be in this stackole Bell.
Speaker 4 (57:18):
You're like you're like accidentally making yourself Like every skater.
Speaker 3 (57:21):
Guys like dream girl. Do you ever get bummed that?
Like every dude just like in comments is like.
Speaker 2 (57:29):
What can't she do? She's got it all?
Speaker 3 (57:31):
Like they really relate to you in comments, like you
get a lot of love, which is really awesome.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
They're like, man, she's just checks all. But I'm so surprised.
I'm very surprised. I think it's because of like how
little you talk. I feel like I talk a lot.
Speaker 1 (57:49):
No, but like I'm saying, you don't like overly put
yourself out there, like you're not talking into a camera.
Speaker 4 (57:53):
Yeah, we're gonna change that with this podcast.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
Give me a huge drink. We're going to change that.
Speaker 3 (58:04):
Here's the deal, listeners, Ariana Spencer. Hopefully you all know
who she is and have watched her parts. But if not,
