How did you get into acting?

Because when I met you, you were being a barber
in Atlanta, right, Yeah, yeah.

I was.

I was a barber for most of my life. I
mean I picked that up at like ten years old.
So my dad was a barber, my grandfather uncle, you know,
and my mom cut here for some time. So that
was just something I had. And one of my clients
called me about the audition. Once I moved to La Empire. Yeah,
so you had moved to La just to to La Yeah,
I had moved to Atlanta.

I just came, I think, or just because you want
to be in the mix.

Just I was in a relationship and there was just
a choice we made, you know, to come, and we came,
and I was probably here maybe six months.

My homeway was like yo, I mean my old client
was like, yo, you heard it? Just show.

I'm like, who hasn't it? Empire was only the first
season was out. I don't even know if it was finished.
It's like, this is the biggest show on TV. We've
never seen something with so much black on it, so
much music on it, good music, a lot of records
that broke on that on that out the center hungry.
Uh but yeah, he called and I was like.

Yeah, what I'm gonna ask her today. I'm like, that's
what That's what I thought. I was like, listen, did
you audition or you just got I had the audition,
and it's crazy because of my my best friend at
the time.

Had you ever auditioned for anything before the girl?

How did you prepare?

What was that it didn't happen?

the audition probably not gonna make that one, you know what.

I mean, because like, listen, we're coming from this past
life of Atlanta. I'm coming straight out of being in
the club till seven in the morning. You're talking about
come to an audition anyway. I get to the audition,
the room's full of girls. I'm like, oh god, people
I know don't know. I felt fake because my best
room was there and I had cut her hair the
night before.

So you're both auditioning for the same ship.

Speaker 8 (08:45):
Yes, but I didn't know about it because mine came
in the middle of the night, you know what I mean.

It was like literally the night before you got the
call yes, yes, it's yes. And I went and did it.

Speaker 8 (08:52):
And I was completely unprepared, and you know, I had
the audition process and they were ultimately like.

Just wrap, she wraps, let her wrap. I wrapped, and
that was it was history for I got that job
like three days later.

It happened so fast. I mean I probably did not
zoom out until now.

And then you're reoccurring character on that show.

It was only posted be four episodes. It turned into
like four years.

So it was there was no time to do.

No time there for anything? I learned as I went
and I fell, And I mean I went through it all,

It wasn't I wasn't in search of it, but it happened.

I mean that was that was it was more money
than I had ever seen and doing a single thing.
So I was like, yeah, but I was still cutting
here too when I could. Obviously, as the celebrity and
the recognition grew, I had to like once that grew,
the bigger it grew, I became smaller.

And that was the thing, you know, what do you mean?

There was more going out than there was coming in.
So like barbing is something that was like I love
to help people and make people feel good. And you
can imagine how many men I've cut, spent twenty years
I've been doing this thing, so you know, I realized
that was something that was you know, taken, that was
that really brought me joy, you know what I mean.

I never replaced it though, so it was just avoid

So there was so many of those things like yeah,
I've never said that out loud, so I think I
just came to it off top. But the realization as
I am able to zoom out is that, yeah, the
bigger it got, the smaller I became and I acted
like that.

Well, do you feel like in barbering there was more
of a reciprocal energy versus with acting, you were more
giving out but versus also receiving.

Oh, it just was purposed and it was real, Like
these are people with real life experiences that I can
really relate to.

I really know your wife, I really know your kids,

It's a lot of information to take it, almost like

But there was something that I enjoyed about just the
real life exchange, in the humility and the trust, you

who is struggling with her identity, whose mother has an issue,

get what I'm saying. When you go out into crowds,

it was just like what do people want something from you?

And I don't know. It was kind of like people
like talking a lot of talking. That's what it felt like,
you know what I mean, so I didn't. I'm finding
it now.

when you're in it, because there's not many people that
you're gonna sit next to that are grounded.

So I'm finding it now, and it's been difficult because

What are you like growing up? Did you have a
grounded I guess family life? So coming into this space
in this new chapter, like, who are the people in
your life that you feel like kind of are home
to you?

There wasn't anyone, not now right now, in this time

But other than that, in terms of family, you know, biologically, oh,
there's no one you know that feels like that or
it's ever felt like that, because again, this thing is different.

You obviously know that you're from La, you know what
I mean, But a lot of people that are not
from here do not understand. They feel like, I don't
know if God is walking down Hollywood Boulevard, but everything
the dreams have come true, and that's not really it,
you know what I mean. This is like the Devil's playground,
you know, to a certain extent. So I feel like,
you know, the perception it was hard to like, I'm like,
you know, there, every time I go outside, I was like, nah, freedom,

this and that and that, and I'm like, I'm just breezy.
But that that's not That's not my reality, isn't that

matching what the perception was, and that's what that's where
the struggle.

I think I did like two projects in between shows there.

and it was cool, and I feel like I landed

the biggest movie, like, you know what I mean. I
consistently gave purpose in what I was doing, you know
what I mean. And TV runs for a long time.
So first show, second show, three years, eight years. That

doesn't happen, you know, for people. So I'm grateful for
that because obviously it needed to happen, you know what
I mean.

How do you find time to restore? Like what does
restoration look like for you?

You said that you're just now kind of zooming out
and like realizing all that has happened. So like, are
you in the season right now? That's you said, that's
kind of allowing you to zoom out and slow down.

So what does that feel like for you?

It feels like, you know, it's a little scary, you
know again, because it's a detachment from who I was.

as soon as I get up in thinking about myself

want to do?

What the morning look like with breezing.

Right now I'm up. I need light. I know that
I need light, you know what I mean. But I
also need severe darkness too, So it's kind of like
extreme in both ends. At night when I'm going to
sleep pitch black, and when I'm waking up, it's like
I need it all.

And what's been working is getting up and immediately emerging
myself in water to allow whatever you know, subconscious thoughts
or whatever I was having to kind of settle and
not turned into anxiety throughout my day. It's like a
shower or like a pool, a bath, A bath, A bath, Yeah,
I shower. I'll shower first, you know, just to clean

my body so I could relax. I don't think about
it after, you know what I mean. So I'll shower first,
and then I'm just getting tough. I let the shower
to fill up while I'm showering, come out, freeze a
little bit, you know what I'm saying. And just to
put some music on. I'm like smoke and just relaxed
until I'm ready to stop. I'm not giving myself no
time limit. And that's the thing I hate.

I felt like I've been brushed throughout my life, you
