*Trigger Warning: Familia we would like to give you a warning because we will be discussing a very sensitive matter. As a parent how do you handle the tragic news that your child has been sexually abused and even better how can we prevent this?
How do you become proactive to better educate your children and ourselves in this matter, at what age should you start talking to your kids about this? And what signs can indicate that maybe your child has suffered abuse without them telling you.
We had two amazing guests with us on this episode. We are beyond grateful for their courage and wisdom. Our Brave and Super Talented friend Becca Guzman who’s a Survivor and Arianna Gonzalez who’s a Licensed MF Therapist that has dealt with hundreds of cases like this. We pray that this episode can help heal, educate and empower us to know how to prevent child abuse and protect them as much as we can.
Below are some reading materials to further educate yourself about this matter.
Here is a link to children books;
Do You Have a Secret?: This book discusses the difference between secrets that are fun to keep and those that make people unhappy, and encourages youngsters to confide in their parents or another trusted adult such painful matters as bullying or improper touching.-
Feeling Worried (Everyday Feelings): A title to address common childhood worries and coping skills for decreasing worry
Please Tell: A Child's Story About Sexual Abuse: A simple book with an important message for survivors of sexual abuse: "the abuse wasn't their fault".
My Body Is Private: A mother-child conversation introduces the topic of sexual abuse and ways to keep one's body private.
