Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast. Hey it's Delilah.
Do you ever feel like the goals you've set for

(00:23):
yourself are so impossible? You don't know how you're going
to climb that mountain. You know you want to climb
that mountain, but you don't know how you're going to
climb that mountain. You're going to I know you will.
I know you can do it. You just put one
foot in front of the other. You take one more test,
you read one more book, you take one more test

(00:46):
after that, so you can get the education you need.
Or maybe your dreams aren't about education. Maybe your dreams
are about creating a business, owning a small business. Maybe
they're about running a big business one day. I don't know,
but I do know if you take it one day
at a time, you are going to make your dreams

(01:08):
come true. In just a moment, I am going to
be talking with a listener who put one foot in
front of the other, and now she's the one standing
in front of the classroom teaching the students. Great story,
great success story, great story. About just taking it one

(01:28):
day at a time and doing your best. Coming up next, Hi,
good evening, you've called the Delilah Show. Who is this? Hi?

Speaker 2 (01:38):
This is Savannah.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Hi Savannah, welcome aboard. What can I do for you
on this summer night?

Speaker 2 (01:45):
I just about dropped the phone when it rang because
it was on my first try. I can't believe I'm
talking to you.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
It means God wanted you to get through tonight, My dear.
What can I do for you? How can I make
your night better?

Speaker 2 (01:58):
You have been a big part of my world for
maybe the last decade or so. I'm I'm twenty nine
years old, and I started really listening to you in college,
and you were with me for all of the late
nights of studying and whatnot. And then that continued on
into graduate school and now I'm teaching myself and you're

(02:22):
still a part of the evenings getting ready for the
next day. There are definitely a lot of late nights
we have spent together. So I'm very grateful for you.
And it's weird to think about how this has all
come full circle.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
So you went to college, you finished college. I'm assuming
what are you doing now?

Speaker 2 (02:40):
I got a PhD in physics, and now I teach
physics for people who want to be doctors.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
WHOA, you're in your twenties and you've got your doctorates
and you're teaching, Savanna, that's amazing.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
You were. You were most certainly a big part of that,
and too, I was just thinking about when I was
in college and my mom would come and pick me
up and take me to see her mom or you know,
somewhere down home. We would be driving back together late
at night, either to go back to school or or
to go back to my parents' house. And I have

(03:16):
very vivid memories too of just driving up the highway
in the dark, but my mom would automatically put you
on It's a Wish ninety nine to seven in Pittsburgh.
We would listen to you on.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
So I'll let you in on a little secret. If
I had the type of intelligence. I'm not saying I'm
not intelligent, but if I had the type of intelligence
that you have that I could have passed college. I
could have passed chemistry and college. I wouldn't be on
the radio. I would be a doctor. I was. My

(03:49):
plan was just to stay in radio long enough to
let it finance my education, and I wanted to be
a doctor, but I couldn't pass chemistry.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Well, I think you've got plenty of talents that are
being put to great use to make a lot of
people's days brighter. My dear for one, very much appreciates you.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Well. I know that I am right where God wants
me to be. When I was younger, I just felt
like a failure because my brain couldn't learn God's ups
like you know, negative energy ions and blah blah blah.
But I kind of feel justified now because I have
a lot of kids, and over the years they have

(04:30):
changed the periodic tables since I was taking chemistry, And
I said, see, it's not an absolute you've changed it
should have given me a passing grade. That's right. So
you're teaching what school are you teaching at?

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Well, I think it's probably okay to say that I
teach at Vanderbilt, right.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
I mean, I'm on here with you now, My God,
I'm just so in awe of you, Savannah. You're amazing.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
I can't even believe I'm talking you. I'm in awe
of you as well.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Your folks must be so stinking proud of how hard
you have worked well.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
My mom's birthday was yesterday, and between my mama and
my daddy, they're both really incredible people. Say never never
let me believe there was anything that I couldn't do.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Well, hats off to you. What can I play for
you and your mom and your dad and you know
all those folks who are staying up late listening to
me at night at whatever school?

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Anything really by Rod Stewart, But my mom particularly likes
Forever Young.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
If you can, I will play that for her and
for you. I read a startling statistic the other day,
and as I was reading it, that song started playing
in my head. And that is seventy percent of the time,
seventy five percent of all the hours you will ever
spend with your children are spent before they're twelve, and

(05:57):
ninety percent of the time you will spend in person
with your children ninety percent will have been spent by
the time they're eighteen. Wow, and I sobbed, thinking, oh God,
they're going to grow up too fast. Well, my husband's
going please grow up. We're tired, we're old.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Well, thank you, I so appreciate you. This made my week.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Well, you have a great rest of your summer. I
know school's out right now, but when it's back in
session and you're teaching again, just good job, good job.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Thank you so much, Shila.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
God bless you, God bless you. Bye bye, Savannah. Jeff, Hi,
this is the Delilah Show. What can I do for you?

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Well, there's someone special that I want to take time
to recognize and I my wife just dried to about
a month ago from from the seminary here where we live,
and got her Masters in counseling, and so it's capped
off a good seven straight years from her undergrad to
her master's degree. I just wanted to say I'm very

(07:16):
proud of her for that Accomplishment's a great feat, very
very excited for her in the future that lies ahead
for the both of us. What's her name, Her name
is Rachel.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
So seminary and counseling. She's going to be doing like
pastoral kind of counseling.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Yes, me and I myself going to school as well
from my Masters of Divinity. So we're both going to
be in ministry one day, which we hope, you know,
to be as effective as possible. But you know, it's
caused a lot of stress and tension with me working
full time and going to only the school part time,

(07:54):
and there have been fights and arguments and stuff. But
at the end of the day, you know, after she's finished,
you know, I just taking time to reflect and realize
that those things just pale in comparison to the fact
that you know of the accomplishment she has made, and
the fact that we're doing life together and I'm so
excited to be doing it with her.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Well, how incredibly brave and honest of you to admit
that you guys fuss and fight and have problems, because
a lot of people think, if you're studying for the
ministry or you're going to seminary school, that you're supposed
to be perfect, and when you fall short of perfect,
then they say, ah, see hypocrits, they're not perfect. But
you're saying, you know what, I love God and I

(08:33):
want to help people, and you know what, I'm not perfect.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Absolutely I love that. I think it's the first step
towards is admitting there's a problem. So I've already done that.
I've picture there's only up to go from here.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
So who's the crankier one? When you guys are studying
and staying up late and hitting the books and working
and trying to juggle life. You are your bride, and that.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Would probably be me since I work a full time
job and go to school part time. Actually works a
full time and a part time job and go to
school at night, so I've I've got a pretty heavy load.
So it's more than likely me it's the cranky one
of the two.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
You're the cranky spanky, You're the one that needs to
just like go listen to the Delilah Show and go for.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
A long walk exactly exactly. I'm on my way. I'm
actually home, on my way home for my part time job,
so it's definitely a delight to listen as I'm writing
home and think definitely encouraging as well.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Well, God knows that we need more people who are
passionate about helping others and serving others in this world.
So thank you both for what you're doing. And let
me find a good song Jeff to tell you bride
how proud you are of her.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
Well, thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
I so hope you have enjoyed these radio moments as
much as I enjoy bringing them to you. I'll share
more with you each weekday on Hey, It's Delilah eight,
