to get one of those tread mills or you can
walk and work. I have one so we can just
like being on stage, you know, we like we rack
up some miles, some some steps. But if we have
one of those, if we have those like walkers, it
would be be nice.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
For effects the way you speak, though, if.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
It might be a problem matter our next guess, yeah,
speaking of our next guest, Oh yeah, speaking of so exciting,
incredibly funny, so funny, impossibly witty, so talented, quick, quick witted,
and just so fun breakout role in Girls Trip was

(01:06):
was just a masterpiece in comedy. And you know, since
then she has she has just absolutely crushed it on
all fronts.

Speaker 1 (01:16):

line of yours of all time.

thing in the entire world. Literally, you gotta pay for
that one.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
Ke. Yeah, I guess well, I have to be wearing
a designer dress usually, or filling just just finished the
at my bank account, or just woke up.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Either those things just happen or no.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
No, none of those things just happen. That's why I
just said I'm happy.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Well or thrilled that you're here with us. Thanks for
taking the time.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
I'm currently in Monacito, and I just was sitting next
to l COOJ and Bob Iger.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
So cash wowow and.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
Maybe maybe Megan Marco and her husband was sitting there
maybe Oprah.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Oh perfect, Okay, give us the tea. What do we hear?

Speaker 2 (02:27):
What things are happening in the world we don't know about? Okay,
you signed, White men are.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
Climbing mountains of snow and uh yeah, and they're orbiting
the moon and you know, filming galaxies.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
It's a lot of I don't want to pry into
your personal life, but I have to ask, are you
Are you living in Monasito?

Speaker 5 (02:48):
No, No, I live in south central LA. I'm just
visiting Monasito.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
To get the information, to get all the information to
go back and yeah, got it.

Speaker 5 (02:56):
Okay, Yeah, I'll just drive an hour and twenty minutes
back to the hood.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
I love Montecito as well. And my wife Priyanka, who
says hello by the way, I told her we were
speaking before this interview, and she was very excited.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
We love it out there.

Speaker 5 (03:11):
Tell her, I said, hey, I love her so much,
not as much as you do, but she's one of
my favorite people.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
She is the best future podcast guests guys. Oh yeah,
all right, we might just be lucky enough to get
her on the pod. But that's great.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
I'm glad you're taking some time to assess all the
things happening in the world by way of us keep
us posted.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Don't speak right, Well, well, you do have some very
exciting things. This is audience. This is what happens.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
You get invited to Montecito when you have something amazing
that just happened. Right, It's the sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue cover.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Congratulations, but that's incredible. How did this come about? How
did it make you?

Speaker 4 (03:50):
Like?

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Tell us all the details.

Speaker 5 (03:52):
So basically this all started, I would say back in
the nineteen hundreds when I came across a picture of
my grandmother modeling. Right, my grandmother used to be a
model back in the nineteen hundreds and fifties, and she
was like one of the first few black women to
be modeling on.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Television in California.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
In credible and she would tell me these stories and
I'd be like, oh, one day I'm going to do that,
and I never got call enough.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
I'm like, I'm only five six.

Speaker 5 (04:19):
And when I was in high school, I used to
do track and field and I dreamed of being on
the cover of Sports Illustrated for being like a track
star I wanted to be. I wanted to be flow Joe,
And yeah, that didn't pan out that My track career
stopped in nineteen hundred and ninety eight. But I did
go off city and high jump and shot put, like.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
I'm very talented.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
Wow, but it just didn't pan out. So I fell
into comedy and was like, well that's it. My dreams
of being in Sports Illustrated are over and I remember
seeing like, you know, Tyra Banks on the cover and
Beyonce and this girl named Jay and yeah, and I'm like,
you know what, I really want.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
To do this, and so I started. I tore.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
I tore both my meniscus in twenty nineteen, and I
started trying, like doing physical therapy to get it together
because I gained all this weight, like try to get
it together. And one of the things that motivated me
to really put in the work was I want to
be a swimsuit model. I want to be a swimsoop model.
And my friends are like, well, you could just take

(05:28):
pictures of yourself in the swimsuit and post it and
that's it. I'm like, no, I want to be an official,
a real deal swimsuit model.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Love it.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
I would post little things and I would tag SI,
you know, tad Sports Illustrated and it. Yeah, over the
years since basically since twenty nineteen, and they noticed once
and then I would, you know, little stuff here and there,
and it was just on my vision board of something
I wanted to do. And last year I was pushing hard.
I started pushing hard, and I was pushing in my

(06:00):
team and they're like, oh, we thought you were joking.
I'm like no, I'm dead serious, Like get me a meeting,
get me something. And they did and they said, yes,
you can do a photo shoot. We cannot promise you
to cover, but maybe a portion in the magazine.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
So I was just happy to just do the photo shoot.

Speaker 5 (06:18):
And maybe get in the magazine. And then I just
really started campaigning super hard. And they revealed to me
my manager took me over to Paris Hilton's house like blindfolded.
I didn't know I was even going there, and they
revealed to me that I got the cover, and I'm.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Like, wow, I just ask why Paris Hilton's house.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
I think that's the richest person I know. That's an
actual friend.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
And your grandmother's name that inspired her name.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
Is Alice Right.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
Her name is Alice Right, but her model name was Ari.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
She was trying to.

Speaker 5 (06:58):
Sound or something, but she was from Bradley, California, which
is down by Mexico.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Where it was where did you do the shoot for
the for the.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
We went to Laredo, Mexico to do the shoot and
we did it on my birthday. Awesome, best birthday gift ever.
And you know, when you get to manifest the dream
absolutely happens on your birthday, is like the best.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
It's a beautiful thing. When's your birthday?

Speaker 5 (07:21):
December third? Which sign is that I'm a crazy Sagittarius?

Speaker 4 (07:25):
Very honest, very well.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
That makes sense.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Well, you have a ton going on obviously sports illustrated,
but but your your peacock show Timmy Hattish goes off.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
People are our loving.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
Is very exciting moment for you and you know, obviously
got to ask about this.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
I think it's a brilliant concept of self marriage.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Of being in love and married to yourself and inspiring others.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
I think to do the same because that's where.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
I think a lot of issues start in life, is
when you're when you're too hard on yourself, down yourself
and you don't experience that self love. So totally, please
walk us through kind of how how this revelation to be?

Speaker 5 (08:00):
Well, I had been tossing around the theory for some
years and I would say things to my friends and
they'd be like, girl, you're crazy, but like taking your
stuff away from the opportunity of marrying a man. I'm like,
but like, why wouldn't I marry me if the longest
relationship I'm going to have in life is the one
with me, Like it's the one that starts, and it's

(08:22):
the longest one, and it's the most transformative one. And
you know, I was noticing the nicer I am to me,
and the more loving I am to me, the kinder
the world is. And the nastier I am to myself,
and the more I talk crazy to myself, the nastier
the world is. And I realized that I've never really

(08:45):
made any true commitments to me. When I went to Africa,
I was seeing their marriage traditions and like what they
do to prepare for marriage? And I'm like, what are
we doing to prepare for the relationship with ourselves? What
are we doing to you know, be present? And like,
how am I going to expect some man to make
me happy when I don't know how to make me happy?

(09:07):
Like it's kind of hard to tell somebody what you
like when you don't know what you like. M So
I decided, like I'm gonna make a promise in a commitment,
because that's what a marriage is, is a commitment to
like stick it out right and to grow a community
if possible. You know, I can't get myself pregnant, but

(09:29):
I can.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
I can't. I mean I guess I could well get
the advantages of technology. Yeah exactly, I.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
Still need other genetic dnative to do that.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
But I have been talking to some scientists in Texas
and apparently we can.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
Do some things with our own flesh. But that's neither
here nor that anyways.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
Yeah, anyway, Yeah, that's a whole nother that's a whole
nother podcast.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Guys, Does this mean that dating's off the table completely?
Or is this no?

Speaker 4 (09:54):
I'm in an open marriage. I'm gonna open.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
Okay, yeah, in it at all?

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Now, this is great.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
Yeah, it's an open marriage with me, and I'm open
to dating whoever qualifies to be a part of my union.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
What's some qualifications for to be a part of your union?

Speaker 5 (10:16):
Well, it's very simple, very easy, very easy qualifications. Credit
score has to be seven hundred or higher.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Okay, copy, because.

Speaker 5 (10:24):
That shows me how responsible you are. And my grandma
always said, how a man spends his money is how
he'll spend your heart. And if he's frivolous with his money,
he'll be frivolous with your heart. Wow, wisdom, And you
got to make sure he's able to maintain, like you know,
maintain things, because as much as you don't want to
believe it, all men will consider you property. They consider

(10:45):
you property in the back of their mind, even if
they say they don't. In the back of their mind,
they think of you as property. That's why when you
get married, they take your name off and put their
name on, and you're their woman. So you need to
make sure they can maintain the property. Everybody's not qualified
to buy and I'm a little studio apartment in Japan,
very small, fairy tinny.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Anyways, and the other qualifications, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (11:09):
Also the second requirement would be he has to have
an EI in number. Gotta have an EI in number.
It has to have it for at least five years
or more. If you don't know what a EI in is,
don't even try to talk to me, because you're not
built for leadership. I'm looking for a leader, a boss,
someone who knows how to manage five personalities more because

(11:30):
I have.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
At least six, and so that is so smart.

Speaker 5 (11:33):
I need to know that you can't that you have
employees at least five of them, and I want to
ask them questions like you know, do you feel like
you're in a safe work environment. Do you feel hurt?
Do you get mental health days? Because I need those days?
Do you know do do they do like team building things?
Is it a clean work environment like things that I

(11:54):
think apply to relationships? And that's basically it. And then
he just had to have good hygiene and that's it.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
I have a question on the question here. I guess
what's the first thing you noticed? Was, say you're on
a date? Was the first thing you noticed about someone?

Speaker 5 (12:09):
Their hands? Dirty, nails dirty? D get that thing away
from me.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
That's so funny.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
I have like this this real seared memory in my
brain from our mother who told me when I was
I think six or seven years old.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
She's like, you got to have good nail hygiene. Women
like a man with good nail hygiene. And I was
like so young, but she was building this sort of
bigger world view for me as a man.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
And I've always been really paranoid about my nails, agreed,
But as I look down at my now, they're good.
They're good, they're clean.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
My grandma used to tell me if a man bites
his nails a lot, she has like two he's a
nail bier. That he has a lot of nervous energy,
and he probably touches.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Himself a lot.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
So you're you're gonna need to take care of him
in the bedroom so he doesn't bite his nails.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Got it.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Wow, Well there's a driver that I've used in Miami.
He bites snails a lot. Now, that's all I thank
you exactly. I'm not gonna have him on the second part,
but I hope he figures that out.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
That's too. I was just like all I can think
about now. All right, So switching gears a little bit.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
We have a couple, you know, mutual friends, Kevin Hart
being one of them. You were amazing at the Kennedy Center.
Was the Kennedy Center? Yeah, the Mark Twain.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
It was so good.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Love Kevin and his now obsession with golf, which is
getting truly out of hand.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
But also Bear Grills. We both did the Bear Grills show. Casual.
You guys are tough. We're tough. That's a whole other thing.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
I admittedly have not seen your episode of it yet,
but I'm going to go back and watch it. But
how did you find the experience to be? Because I thought
it was one of the most thrilling things I've ever done.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
It was super fun. I thought I was gonna die twice, and.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
I was like, Oh, my family's going to be set
for life if this happens, if my past.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
But yeah, I'm definitely rich. I'm definitely worth a lot
more dead than I am going to say.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Did they make you sign any paperwork for like a
waiver or any sort of inches.

Speaker 5 (14:00):
Yeh, I just find a lot of paperwork. But I
thought I was like redlining some things.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
I don't think I really properly reviewed it. I thought
it would be pretty chill. And the thing is that
at the time that we shot it, it was in
the Sierra Nevadas, which is about forty five minutes away
from Mammoth Mountain, where Joe and I used to have
a place together.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Something. Oh, there's gonna be chill. I'm familiar with the terrain,
just snowboard down. If I'm really stuck.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
We basically pulls up in a helicopter, picks me up,
and they drop us off at the top of the
Sierra Nevadas about ten thousand feet and we.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Have to traverse all day down to the midpoint.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
And this whole time there's like a big ass like
blizzard happening, and we stayed overnight in these tents and
I sent a photo to the family on the family
group chat of my face bundled up with all these
blankets and the tent, and I just was like.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
If this is it, I love you.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
But he had me eat, you know, like a like
bugs and a bird that he cooked over a little fire.
It was really gnarly walked through a frozen frozen lights
well I mean partially frozen, but it was so cold
that I thought I was gonna I was gonna die.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Tify was what was the moment one of two?

Speaker 2 (15:08):
Because you said there's two moments that you were like,
the hell did I get myself in?

Speaker 6 (15:12):
This is not I was propelling down a mountain in Utah,
a desert type mountain in Utah, a boulder, if you will,
propelling down, climbing down, and I thought I did something silly,
like a little flip or something of the foot, and

(15:33):
I just started kind of flipping and.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
I was like, but really, I was in my head
like this is it. This is the wrap. This is
a wrap. Your sisters are going to get all your houses.
It's a wrap. And I made it down, Okay, just fine.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
And then when I watched the episode, I saw that
the rope broke. They never told me that the rope broke.
I didn't know that the rope broke. The anchor broke.

Speaker 4 (15:59):
I had no idea.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
What unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
Okay, we have to ask you a question from this
this bowl. Joe has a bowl of questions. We don't
know what they are. Just me, it's ours, he's throw
in case it doesn't land. Well, this is I don't
like that. We're gonna take ownership. It's my podcast.

Speaker 5 (16:18):
We'll just say it's the U Universe Bowl, the.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Universe Bowl. It's got a bunch of random questions. We
don't even know what's in here. Okay, hold on, there
you go, very zen. Actually just tell me when to stop,
Tiffany and stop. Okay, there we go. I believe you
guys do that on me. I mean, just protecting ourselves.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
All right, what's the food combination you eat that you
know is wrong. That's a good question. That's great, Okay,
I do this is my bull.

Speaker 5 (16:49):
Okay, so combination that I eat that I know is wrong?

Speaker 1 (16:52):
You know is wrong?

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Maybe by that could be the general public would think
that's gross, or you think you know.

Speaker 5 (16:59):
Okay, So I love I personally love pickles dipped in
kool Aid powder. Wow, and a pastmistrami on the side,
well done in all my pastrami, I want regular yellow mustard.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
I want it on wheat bread.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
I want lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, pickles and jalapeno peppers.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
Wow. What a little mayonnaise, salt and pepper oil and vinegar.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Wow, what flavor kool Aide. I wasn't even hungry. No,
I'm hungry.

Speaker 5 (17:31):
I love the tropical punch or cherry and or grape,
And sometimes I get wild and put a peppermint or
a jolly rancher in the middle of the pickle and
dip it in.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
There, a jolly rancher in the middle, like like the
hard candy.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
It's like a sweet get in the middle.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
It gets all sweet and salty and tangy.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
Yeah, I don't know how I feel.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
How did you discover that dipping a pickle and kool
Aid powder was a thing that sounds kevin oddly sexual?

Speaker 4 (18:01):
Well, it's it's a it's another tradition.

Speaker 5 (18:03):
Anybody that's from the hood, I feel like, knows about this.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
You would get a big pickle like from the liquor store,
the ice cream truck and.

Speaker 5 (18:12):
You put either a peppermint in there, a jolly rancher,
or you dip it in the cool.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (18:18):
So it's like sweet tangy, like it's delicious.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
I don't doubt that I would love it. These items
on your rider.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
No they're not on my rider because I don't think
I should have that on a regular basis.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
But it's like a little combo that you.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Know, we're gonna try this, We're gonna this is the
first we're gonna order it.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
I don't think or don't I don't think you can't order.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
You're gonna have to order things separately.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
And then put it together. It's a great answer. Kevin
would love this. This is all the things he likes.
And there's a lot of food that Kevin doesn't like.

Speaker 5 (18:49):
Not the sweet pickles. It's got to be a deal pickle.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
I actually think that that would be something I would
enjoy it, like the sweet and the savory of that
would be great.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
I think, if you want me to come out and
make it for you and over.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Last time we saw each other was at the Oscars.
I just wanted to say that because it makes me
sound cool, but you know, I really it was great
to see you that day I was asked to play
for Reba McIntyre's band.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
I felt very special. That's so cool. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:12):
Yeah, and you did a great job.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Thank you. You were the last person I saw before
I went on stage. It was great. And yeah, you
have a music career. My kids love the Lego movies.
Oh my god, so much.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
My youngest daughter is like a total anime. Loves Legos,
like just loves all of it. And so the fact
that you're in that and the music is incredible. How
did you enjoy making the music for it?

Speaker 4 (19:34):
Oh? I loved it. It got me into music.

Speaker 5 (19:37):
It got me wanting to make more music like sawso
I would make things like just for fun to put
like on my comedy shows. And now I'm like making
stuff to stream and like making music videos and dropping.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Them in my movies.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
Yeah, like, I love it.

Speaker 5 (19:50):
If you guys want to do a little collaboration, I
did something with Jason Rats when they got nominated for
a Grammy.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
I'm just saying, really, it's amazing. Okay, congratulations nominated collab.

Speaker 6 (20:04):
No.

Speaker 4 (20:04):
I've been nominated for Grammy three times and I won once.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
So I've done more than us, more than us we
got to you.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
Might want to collaborate with me.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
We do.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
We know who we're calling number four.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
So girls trip in the first one, you guys filmed
in New Orleans, right, yeah?

Speaker 1 (20:20):
Correct? So I love the film.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
The zip line moment in that in over Bourbon's Street
is just unbelievable kind of it's so good And I
laughed so hard. You know when you're watching a movie
on a plane and you laugh a little too hard.
That was me, Like, like you start laughing next to
somebody that definitely starts looking at you and then looking

Speaker 3 (23:02):
We used to be neighbors with Ravens Simon, Yes we did.
We first moved to La Our apartment overlooked our home exactly.
We felt we were nervous. We were nervous.

Disney scene. Yeah, she was the queen where or something.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
Lake Yeah all right by all the Disney offices the
film that kept us close. They yeah, well, this has
been so fun and we really appreciate your time on
the cover. It's unbelievable cover and we're gonna collap because
we need a Grammy.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
Okay, let's do it.

Speaker 5 (23:41):

I gotta try it. What a great what a great guest.
Oh my gosh, she's so great. What a lovely person.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Yeah, what a career amazing. That was lots of fun.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Didn't know she played accordion. Didn't know she has a Grammy.
She's a Grammy and we don't. Grammy not nominated, Grammy
winning winner.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
She got more nominations than us two. I think I
think we have three. We have two. We have two.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Hey, sirih, how many Grammy nominations do the Jonas brothers have?

Speaker 4 (24:31):
It's two.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
It was Cake nominated Cake by the Ocean. No m
probably a bit bit too silly for the Grammys. Jealous
was not nominated. The Jones brothers have received two Grammy
Grammy nominations. First YEP for Sucker and for Best Pop
Duo Group.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
We lost.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
We lost to A Dell for Best New Artists, which
is right rightfully so.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
And then the other category was for Best Pop Vocal Performance.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
We lose to their Best Duo Group. No, I don't
think we got that. I don't know what we were
nominated for. See it was do or group.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
Yeah, they've combined the category. That's which is stupid, so
honest to go on a m It's fine, I can.
I'm gonna do it because whatever they've combined the category.

Speaker 6 (25:09):
Hold on.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Before you say anything, Kevin, we love the Grammys, Yes
we do. We'd love a Grammy.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
I'm actually a part of these guys have been really
negative about the Grammys this whole time. I was just
bringing to light that we we love we love love
you guys. Yeah, we absolutely do.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
We just love amy. What I'm about to say is
they have combined.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
The two categories of duo group and just a group
into a single So any collaboration that any two people
do or anyone does is in the same group as
a band or a group that is essentially one entity,
like a pop vocalist.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
But we have no we have no. I'm just saying
maybe I don't even go here, and I don't know.
I don't know. The Grammys are all right, bye bye
bye bye bye bye.
