Speaker 1 (00:00):
I Am All in again. Oh that's you. I Am
All in Town meeting with Suzanne French and Tara suit
(00:22):
An iHeartRadio podcast. Hey guys, welcome back to another episode
of I'm All in Town Meeting with myself, Tara and Susanne.
So today we're talking about season two, episode eleven, Secrets
and Loans, which aired January twenty second, two thousand and two.
We made it two thousand and two. This is the
first episode of the year. Honestly, great episode.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Yeah, I enjoyed it.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
I liked it. It threw me off when it started
with the music because I was like, what is this playing?
And then as soon as she walked off the porch,
I was like, oh my god, the porch is gonna break.
I knew the second she walked outside. I was like, oh,
I know what this is. But I like in the moment,
I was like, what is right?
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Because at first when it starts, You're like, is this
a dream sequence?
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Like what is that? It threw me off and I
was like I don't remember this episode and then I'm like, oh, nope,
I remember.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, at the door stays the termites.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
The house and the termites and all of it.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
One one thing I noticed, and I don't know if
this was intentional or not, but when Kirk was looking
at the damage, he used the word jousts instead of joists,
like for the floor, okay. And it was weird because
the first time he said he said it correctly, he
(01:41):
said the joysts are eaten through or whatever he said,
and then the next time he used the word jousts.
And I don't know if that was a mistake or
if that was just Kirk being Kirk.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
I don't know. I wonder if it also was like
a take that like the wrong take, you know, maybe.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Maybe no one was paint and it just got it.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Is this the jat I've seen this? This is like
a very famous Lorelei jacket, by the way, the red
with the like fur lining. Yeah, very Lorelei jacket.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
It is very lorel It's that's like the one that
Warner brother sells in this Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah. Did you notice that Hans and Soda was back? Yes,
but only Rory had it. It was like you could
only afford one.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Yeah. I did notice that. I think, uh Madeline, I
think was drinking like a pellegrino or something.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, but it was but the label was yeah, and
then I think whoever else on the other I think
it was it was a Paris Paris has had like
just like a like just a cup with like a
straw or something.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
And then later on in the episode, just speaking of
product placement, the Hogan DAW's ice cream was very obvious.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yes, they even mentioned it like, yeah, he said a
hoggin DAW's chocolate chocolate shape or something like that.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Which, while we're talking about it, I do not understand
why she put the ice cream in the middle of
the table and then would scoop and take the scoop
to the blender, Like I was like.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Why is she walking back and forth?
Speaker 1 (03:13):
It was such an interesting like camera blocking choice.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yeah, and the ice the level of the ice cream
kept changing, like it would go from like it was
like maybe that far down to being like full at
the top except where she had scooped it.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Like well, I was wondering when she was about to scoop,
I was like, is it real ice cream? And it
really was so imagine how many times they had to like, yeah,
do the takes and then like clean out the blender
and do it all over again. Also like a milkshake
in the middle of the night is.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Oh, I know, Yeah, that whole scene was weird.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
I thought the Jackson bit was hilarious.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yes, that was really funny.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
It was really because it was so like just stars hollow,
you know.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
And I love those pajamas. We see them in all
the seasons, like you see them again, like it wasn't
just a gag for that episode, like we keep seeing them,
which I thought was great.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
It also was terribly printed, Like at first when he
said it, I kind of forgot what it looked like.
But have you seen those shirts where it's like cutouts
of people's heads, Like yes, but this was not like
the faces. It was like someone photo copied like old
photos in the like rectangular shape and then just like
put it on. It was so it was so funny.
(04:34):
And then what Laurla had a line that was like
this is the best thing to happen at like one
am or like whatever whatever she said. It was just
I thought it was so funny.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
I just like that Suki was like so excited to
like have the girls over where she was like, oh,
like Jackson could just go with the closet.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
It was so weird at least like put them in
a different clas.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
It was weird that he was like close the bedroom, Yeah, exactly,
it was.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
It was weird.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
But I remember I can't remember where I heard it.
It might have been when Jackson came on the podcast.
But the story about those pajamas and how it was
totally like a last minute thing. It was like the
night before they were shooting and they were trying to
get these these pajamas and it was a big panic
to get them done in time before.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
But kind of makes it better.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Yeah, I know, it's a great story. It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Oh that's so funny. Oh, I guess we can go back.
I did see the clown pillow?
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Oh did you I didn't see it.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, it's the scene where it's hold on. It's it's
when they're at there. I think it's like the only
scene at the Gilmour house. But it's right behind Laura.
Oh yeah, it's very it's Oh, it's it's around the
time when when Madeline calls and then it's behind Laura.
(05:53):
I when she's sitting on the couch. Okay, okay, but
it's like you don't even really see it. You just
see like a red pillow Okay. I was like, Oh,
I didn't even notice that. I totally miss that it's there.
It's I was just because we didn't see it last episode.
So I was like fully convinced we're gonna see it
this episode.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yeah, which that's pretty good because we didn't have a
lot like actually in Loralized House this time.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
So that yeah, yeah, yeah, it just makes me wonder,
like I know we've talked about this, but like why
why move the clown pillows so much? Yeah, like it
had to be a game, I will say. In a
we had on one of the other podcasts I work
on that we do, The Boy Meets World Rewatch, we
had a producer on who she was like, oh, when
(06:40):
you guys get to season six, there is a lobster
that'll show up like in the school scenes, like in
the student union, and they're like, what do you They
never the cast never knew, and now that they're in
season six, they're seeing it, and she like strategically would
place this lobster in like like the shelf and things
like that. It's just like a toy lobster, but like
(07:02):
it had to be just someone like playing a prank
on set. Yeah, yeah, it's because it's just a prop,
so you're just moving it around, right.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
And and in Gilmore, there are a few episodes that
have a Scooby Doo strategically placed, yet they're super hard
to see and I'll have to go back. I think
we may have already missed one or two of them.
I have to go back and find what I can
can find on that. But but yeah, sometimes they do that.
It's just like a practical a practical joke.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Well, think about it back then. You don't think of
someone binging this. It's like a one time thing. You're like, oh,
you'll love to see it again, right right.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
They wouldn't have anticipated people having podcasts where they pick
apart every single visual detail.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Of the like you know, when the hands and soda,
when the pellegrino was the label was facing the wrong way,
like exactly. They're listening back to this like, oh my god,
you people exactly.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
It was good to see Richard Klein in this episode.
So so I don't know, maybe I'm the only Three's
Company fan out there, but he played Larry in Three's Company.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Oh okay, I did watch Three's Company, but I didn't
I didn't put two and two together.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Yeah, he was. He's was Larry the used car salesman neighbors,
so I don't think I've ever seen him in anything
other than Three's Company. So it was nice to see him,
you know, decades later.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
That was fun. I loved that green outfit on Emily.
Green looked great on her at the house.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Was that with the sparkly neckline, Yes.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
And it had butt like a button down. It was.
It was when she when they first went and then
Rory was like, oh, mom needs a loan, and then
that whole thing happened. That was a good scene. I know.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
I love Emily's clothes. She wears very classic.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Now. Also, like this is probably the third or fourth
episode in a row where I'm like totally team Emily.
Like she's just been so pleasant, Like she has her
moments right like she always does. But like even at
the end, I know we're jumping ahead, but whatever, Like
when she was like, I just wanted to do it,
like for my daughter. I wanted to do something nice
(09:05):
for my daughter. You're like, she cares, she just shows
it a different way.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
But at the same time, like she's never wanted to
do anything nice for Loralai before, so I kind of
don't blame Lareli for not trusting that.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Yeah, but I think like coming off the last couple
episodes and like, you know, they they went to the
Bracebridge dinner like if they've just been and then they
did the the fashion show together. That was like a
couple Like I just feel like, considering their relationship has
been solid. I wasn't too like taken aback by it,
(09:43):
but I can understand what you're saying, Yeah, I do.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
I was kind of on the fence about it. I
did think it was a little over the top that
Emily shows up for the.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Meeting well once well yes, but then once we got
the payoff, I was like, oh, well that's why, because
she was in COO signed like that was the whole reason.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
So yeah, but still I yeah, I was with Lorelai
on that one. Like if my mom showed up at
a meeting like that and then wanted to actually like
come in the room with me, Like I could see
her showing up just to make introductions and be like
this is my friend, blah blah blah, you know, but
to like actually come in and be part of the conversation.
(10:22):
I I don't, but yeah, but they were setting it
up for the co signing. I mean, I get that.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
The one thing I was like was like, Lorelai really
just get in front of the the guy, just like,
oh you did this, Like the whole exchange between her
and Emily. I'm like, you're really gonna have that in
someone's office. Yeah, let's step out. But no, I mean,
did you notice, by the way in the scene at
Laureli's house, did you notice the ebook? No?
Speaker 2 (10:49):
I wasn't even paying attention to the.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Old old Apple computers the laptops.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Was that the one that Rory got for her birthday?
Remember sit in the sixteenth birthday episode, she got a
computer I.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Think so it was a blue Yeah yeah, but Laura
I was using it.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Oh funny.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
But I literally was like, oh my god, the Eyebook
Like what a time? Like I was like, man, this
really is from two thousand and two. Like so the
second I saw the Eyebook, I was like, man, this
show's old.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Yeah. Well, and the we just talked about the Bracebridge
dinner and I forgot to bring this up in that episode.
But the laptop that Kirk was typing when they had
their their meeting getting ready for the Bracebridge dinner and
he was typing on the laptop. Oh yeah, like the
brick and it was like this thick and it had
a screen that was like four inches by four inches. Like, yeah,
(11:38):
it's so funny how the technology has changed.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
Did you also notice when Laurel I was at the
Inn and she was like trying to get a meeting
with a bang and she was like calling people back.
She call like She's like, Hi, can I speak to
mister Rigalski? Did you notice that? Yes? Yeah, I was
like I was like Adam Brody like it was like
(12:01):
foreshadowing over here.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Yeah, I wonder you know, because that.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Was it was named after someone's on the show.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
It was Helen Pye. It was her husband, Dave Gal right,
But then it kind of it kind of works in
with the show too, because theoretically he could be Dave's dad,
Like it's believable that maybe Dave's dad runs a bank.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
I mean true. It was just really funny because I
literally paused and I was like, we haven't seen Dave
Ragalski yet. Who is this man she's looking to have
a meeting with? When does when does Adam Brody come in?
What season is it? Is it two or three?
Speaker 2 (12:46):
You know, I, I don't know. I feel like it's three,
but I don't really have any proof of that.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Three. Okay, Yeah, he's He's in season three and then
mentioned in four and five. So yeah, three, okay, so
we're a season away from Daki.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Yeah, I love Dave. Okay. The chairs, the chairs in
Suki's kitchen that had it was like a floral fruit print,
(13:25):
and there were three of them, laurel I sitting in one,
and then Rory sits in the other, and then there's
another one to Laurelize left. There's also one of those
at Luke's diner.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Oh funny, which is funny because why I was two
into the ice cream to notice the chairs.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Yeh, he just noticed the chair because they had they
had them out for the Warner Brothers Christmas thing.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Okay, And so the scene where.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
With the scene with the ice cream, and laurel I's
sitting there and Rory's not in the room, so there's
an chair sitting next to Laurelai. I have a picture
they had that chair in the walk through that was
missus Kim's huh, and so I have a picture of
me sitting on that exact Oh, I matched it up
with the pattern like of the the vinyl fabric, and
(14:18):
so I have a picture of me sitting on that chair.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
That's so cool.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Yeah. But then there was also another one at Luke's
and they show it in some episodes. So it's just
funny they would.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Have the same By the way, Suki had the oldest
fridge known to mankind.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Yes, and it didn't close all the way.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
It didn't close. She tried to close it and then
it didn't close, and then she just walked away. Yeah,
but it was like, as a chef, why did you
give her the oldest fridge?
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Yeah, that's true, Like Larela.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
I has a more up to date fridge than Suki.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Yeah, I mean, I guess they're just trying to.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Her house was very retro.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
It was, yeah, it was. It did fit the vibe
of the house.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
It fit the vibe. But it was just funny. It
was just I was like, Yeah, she didn't close it
all the way. I was like, oh go, it's like,
can't she It doesn't close, and then she kicks it
and then it just watched walks away. Oh man, I
did think the I thought the Rory Lane storyline was
(15:16):
a little random to be honest, like, I yeah, like
it just I don't know. It kind of came left field.
And then at the very end when they're watching Lane cheer,
it's more towards the beginning of the cheer routine is
laurelized like really excited for her, and then Rory has
this like disgusted look on her face, and I was like,
(15:39):
can you be happy for your friend for like two seconds. Also,
I don't understand why she acted that way, Like I'm
assuming she knows that Lane wanted to like fit in
and this, and that's like just be supportive.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Yeah. I didn't think the whole thing was weird because
they're in the last episode they were fine, like there
wasn't anything. Now all of a sudden this episode, Rory
was looking for her at missus Kim's and she wasn't there,
and then she it was like she was mad at
her for some reason. When we have to talk. It
(16:12):
was just I don't know. It just was a weird
friction that there wasn't anything leading up to it.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Yeah, I mean the way I took it was like
you know when you haven't talked to someone for a
couple of days and you're like, oh, like I'll, you know,
check in or I mean with friends.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Now, but like that's how I took it, like, oh,
I haven't seen her, and then now that you're trying
to reach out to her, like she's like nowhere to
be found. So I took it as just like a
couple days of just not seeing Lane.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Rory said, it's been a couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Oh, she said, weeks?
Speaker 2 (16:39):
Okay, yeah, And I it just the whole thing was
weird to me because also, why cheerleading. I don't see Lane.
I don't see missus kim letting Lane, letting her be
a cheerleader. And then how did she go through the
whole thing like cheerleading tryouts and then making the team
and then getting the uniform all that? Did she go
(17:00):
through all that without Rory knowing?
Speaker 1 (17:02):
During Christmas break right, Like.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
She goes from Bracebridge dinner to all of a sudden
full on cheerleader, Like how would Rory not have known that?
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Well, Also, if you're thinking like logistically, like they don't
do cheer tryouts in the middle of the year, like
it's the beginning of the year, right, so for her
to like join.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Or the end of the year before to cheer for
football season.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Yes, because yeah, so like it would be technically like May, right,
and then you would then start in like September, right,
But like there there wouldn't be a world where, especially
for school, like where you're suddenly just like adding a sport.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Right, You're not trying after cheerleading in December. I mean,
I guess maybe some schools maybe have different squads for
different sports if you're big enough to have that, but
Stars Hall High isn't gonna be.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
And then also how did they let Lane like be
the one who picked the music and like do the dance,
like you know what I mean, she just joined the
team suddenly she's like cheer captain.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Yeah, yeah, it was.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
It was just I mean, I didn't hate it. It
was just random. It was like a random storyline.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
I didn't dislike it. I thought it was I liked
watching Lane get to do something that she enjoyed, because
Lane doesn't do something she enjoys, so I liked that
part of it. I just thought it was a weird choice.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
I agree. I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
Yeah, I could see her maybe doing like a sport
or something, but truly didn't seem like something that missus
Kim would allow.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Yeah. No. But other than that, I mean, I don't
really have anything else for the episode. I feel like
it was a solid episode.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
It was a great episode. Honestly, there haven't been any
doozies at all. It's been all good this season.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Yeah, I've been very happy with season two so far. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
It is funny though that season two there was no
Thanksgiving or Christmas episode. I feel like shows, especially early
on in their run, always do themed episodes. I mean,
I guess with the snow Last episode you could, but
we went from that to like, suddenly, it's end of January, right,
(19:07):
And maybe it had to do with when it aired,
because you don't really want to see like a Christmas
episode January twenty second.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Yeah that's true, that's true. But yeah, yeah, and they
had a good Christmas episode in season one, so I
kind of stepped the President and the Thanksgiving one.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
So but I know we'll have more. Like I'll always
remember the dinner where they're going to everyone's house and
then like Jackson's like deep frying a turkey, like ingrained
in my brain for some reason.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Yes, yeah, that's good.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Anyway, Well, next week we're gonna be talking about Season two,
episode twelve, Richard in stars Hollow another good one.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
