Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back nor it Hass to another episode of the
most anticipated podcast on the Black Effect Podcast Network, entitled.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I didn't know Maybe you didn't either.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
I'm your host, b Dot and I made it through
Mother's Day. And what was interesting about Mother's Day is
I was doing fine all morning till I start getting
text messages the people reminded me how hard the day
was supposed to be.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Oh, B Die, I know today is hard with your mom.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Being gone, and all, ohb Doe, be strong thinking about
you today. You aren't thinking about me yesterday. Ain't gonna
think about me tomorrow. And if you can still text
your mama Happy Mother's Day. And she responded, how the
hell you think you know how hard it is for
me today. I don't need you to remind me that
my mom's not here. Here's a rule of thumb. If
(00:50):
I don't tell you how hard the day is for
me being Mother's Day, you don't need to remind me
of how hard today is because it's Mother's Day.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Stop projecting on people. It ain't given.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
What you think is given respectfully because we know it
come from a place of love. But until you see
that cask, get closed on your mama You really don't
understand what we go through the first day without your
mama and the eighteenth year without your mama feel the
exact same, and that sucks. As a matter of fact,
hashtag grief is dumb, which is.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Why we started the Mom Circle.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
We got two chapters, a Charlotte chapter and a Greensboro chapter.
You can find us on social media, but we meet
up on Mondays in the seven O four and the
three three six. Got me a healing coach, Tiffany Fox,
you know, cause you need somebody to help give you
coping skills while you own this journey of grief. It
was founded by myself, my Brough tone X, and my
(01:45):
brother Nolan mil Larry cause we all lost our mom.
Me two years ago, Larry four years ago. And Tone
he to Lebron James of this because he year eighteen.
But that Saturday before Mother's Day, Oh, I had a
yacht party that Joe was slapping one hundred black professionals
swag surfing, wrapping, Jeezy and Dolf getting drunk eating good food.
(02:08):
Oh man, I got fo mo of them happening this summer.
I call it my sunset on the Late Yacht Summer series.
The finale is on my birthday weekend September twelfth, Virgo Palooza.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Fifty Shades of Blue.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
All we gonna cut up and my yacht parties aren't experienced.
We play games, we have fun ice breakers. The food
come with your ticket. I got all types of party favors,
and for my first one, I had some leftovers the
little plastic ducks. And when I got home, it was
two white jeeps in the parking lot. So I put
a blue duck on one dashboard and a pink duck
(02:44):
on the other dashboard. But then I realized I have
absolutely no clue what ducks and jeeps have to do
with each other. So we got an episode about it.
But before we get into that episode, I've got three
of the most useless facts you'll never need ever a
day in life about ducks. Up First, did you know
(03:05):
their duck sleep with one eye open. Yeah, they can
sleep with half they brain awake and the other half
of their brain sleep, So it allows them to keep
one eye open so they can watch out for predators.
So you can't never catch your duck slipping, which brings
me to my second useless facts, because duck slippery is
hell and their waterproof.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
See, ducks got a special gland that's right into their
tails and it produced oil. That oil they spread over
their feathers so that they stay dry and they stay
warm in.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
The cold water.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
And your third useless facts about ducks, they molt twice
a year.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
What's moltd you as well?
Speaker 1 (03:40):
That's when they lose their flight feathers, and it happens
to them twice a year, which can put them in
dangerous predicaments because to leave them unable to fly for
a few weeks. Those have been your three useless facts
about ducks, so that we can transition into me putting
rubber ducks on jeep wranglers.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
And I didn't know. Why do you know why they
do that? I didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know.
I didn't know.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
I didn't know.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
I didn't know.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Well, first, you got to understand that the jeep world
is a whole nother world. They got a jeep wave
and they take it serious if you don't wave back.
They got off road meetups, this whole it's a jeep
thing identity. But the ducks or that started in twenty
twenty in Ontario during the pandemic It was a woman
named Alison Parliament and reportedly she had a bad interaction
(04:35):
with a stranger. She went and bought a rubber duck
to light and the move. She left it on the
jeep with a note boom Man. That idea spread faster
than a choir girl's legs on a church retreat. It
was all through the jeep groups and social media. So
now jeep owners leave a rubber duck on another jeep
that they liked. Sometimes they add a note or Instagram handle.
(04:57):
FoST collected ducks all on the dashboards as badges.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
From other jeep owners.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
So when you see a jeep dashboard that's full of ducks,
it's basically like saying, yeah, other jeep people saw my
jeep and they showed love. Now here's the t Some
jeep owners love it and some hate it. That's the
funny part. Some folks think it's just wholesome fun. Then
others be like, nah, I got too commercialized. It became
too social media. A dashboard full of ducks look childish
(05:25):
as hell, And especially the old school off road jeep folks, oh,
they're the gatekeepers.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
They got disrespectful.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Names, they claimed some of the jeep drivers and call
them a mall crawler duck jeep crowd. Now what does
a mall crawler duck jeep crown. It's the folks that
drive the jeep wranglers got the doors off, look like
they're ready for some off road stuff, but really they
just ride through the suburbs and to the mall. Yeah,
them off road jeep folks, they really don't like that.
But the real reason it took off because everybody wanted
(05:54):
to be a part of something.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
I mean, that's the reality.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
A two dollars rubber duck became community recognition, conversation starters,
a social media flex but overall just some harmless positivity.
And if you remember back in twenty twenty during COVID, OH,
people were craving any type of human interaction they confine
you remember, So now the jeep culture pretty much owned
the ducks.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
You can get all types of themed ducks.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Custom ducks, sports team ducks, even career ducks.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
And I didn't know, maybe you didn't either.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
I
