Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome Back nor.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
It alls to another episode of the most anticipated podcast
on the Black Effect Podcast networking title I didn't know.
Maybe you didn't either. I am your host, b dot A.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
PK.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Grew up in the church. My part was the minister
of music at every church we went to. My mom
she sang in the church, he directed the choir. She
was the secretary at Macedonia when we got the Winston Salem,
North Carolina, back in the year of nineteen hundred and
eighty five. So growing up in the churches all I knew,
But as much church as I did, I did not
know Jesus and his.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Disciples the way I thought I did.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
So we gonna get right into this episode because it's
a bit lengthy.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
But before we get to the length polls, it is.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Imperative that I give you three of the most useless
facts He'll never need, never not a day in life
about Jesus knew up first, Did you know that Jesus
lived for forty full days after the resurrection? Blew my
mind for some strange reason, I thought, after that third day.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
When he rose, he dipped.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
But now Jesus kicked it forty days with the disciples
and Mary Magdalene and them.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
He was just cooling.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
And then ten days after that, that's when the Holy
Spirit ascended upon the disciples. Your second useless facts. Did
you know Luke, Paul nor John the Baptists were part
of the twelve Disciples?

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Because I did. Luke was a position.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Paul was Saul killing Christians, and then he was on
the road to Damascus and saw Jesus and John the
Baptist was just Jesus homeboy.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
They were like brothers.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
John the Baptist Mama and Jesus Mama were good, good friends.
And your third useless facts. Jesus had thousands of disciples.
The twelve men he picked were apostles. Yeah, we always
call them Jesus' twelve disciples, but anybody following Christ at
that time was a disciple. Of all his disciples. Jesus

(01:55):
hand picked twelve and named them apostles. Those have been
your three years the facts about Jesus. Now, and now
that I'll spilled some of the beans already in the
three Eusta's facts, let me ask you this for a
million dollars right now, could you name all of jesus
Is starting twelve? Because I couldn't I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
I didn't know. I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
I didn't know. I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
I didn't know. I didn't know, So digg ite.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
I love Game of Thrones right and House of the Dragon,
and strangely enough, watching those shows have changed the way
I've been reading the Bible. Now, before y'all start, No,
they aren't the same time period. Hell, Western Roads ain't
even real, but those shows help me visualize something. The
Bible is happening in a.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Very brutal world.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Keans could have you killed people, got your beheaded wrong,
crucified people publicly. So lately I stopped reading the Bible
like these stained glass window characters, and I started imagining
them like actual characters and are real world drama like
a TV series. And that's when I realized I didn't
even know the damn cast. Because the question I presented

(03:07):
to you earlier, if you'd have told me you'll give
me a million dollars if I named all of Jesus'
first twelve, of course I would have put Paul in
that wrong, Luke wrong, John the Baptist, I mean his
name got Baptist in it, nurt None of them were
part of the twelve so of course it sent me
down a rabbit hole. So instead of memorizing twelve Bible

(03:29):
names today, we're gonna cast the show now. When you're
talking about Jesus as starting twelve, Remember I told you
JC had way more than twelve disciples. A disciple is
basically a student or a follower, and Luke six says
that Jesus called his disciples together and chose twelve from them,
whom he designated apostles. So these are the starting twelve.

(03:50):
Peter the emotional leader. He was a fisherman, loud, impulsive.
This man will pull out a sword to defend Jesus
and cut somebody ear off and then hours later deny
three times that he even knew JC.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Peter had a brother named Andrew. That was the connector.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
He don't get nearly as much spotlight, but he would
constantly bringing people to Jesus, including Peter. He that friend
that always knows somebody that need to meet somebody, that's
your Andrew. Then it was James and John, the hot
head brothers. Them two wanted all the smoke. Jesus literally
nicknamed them the Sons of Thunder. Is One story is
it's Amaritan Village and they reject Jesus, and the sons

(04:27):
of Thunders asked Jesus, like, yo, you want us to
call fire down from heaven and kill them all, right now?
Jesus was like, absolutely not. The practical one was Philip.
Thousands of people need food, Jesus asked Philip, where they're
gonna get enough bread. Of course, Philip immediately starts calculating
the money. Every friend group got somebody who kills the
dream with the budget.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
That was Philip. Now Bartholomew, he's the mystery.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
He's one of the twelve, but tradition often connects him
to Nathaniel, but the Bible never really says that they're
the same person, so that's a bit of scare Thomas,
he was the skeptic. Of course, we all know about
Doubton Thomas. Everybody else said they saw the resurrected Jesus.
Thomas said, look until I see it myself put my
finger through the handholes. I ain't gonna believe it, and

(05:12):
I ain't gonna cap I think I would have been
very much Thomas. Up next, you got James, the son
of Alpheus, aka the other James. Because we know very
little about bro and yes, there are two Jamess Daddius
was the other Judas. Luke calls him Judas the son
of James. Other lists called him Thaddius, And yes there
are to Judas is too. Just feels like the Bible

(05:34):
writers got real lazy. And of course we all remember
the betrayer Judas I scariots the Judas, you know. But
here's what sort of hit different about that. Judas wasn't
an outsider, like he wasn't somebody who was watching that
snitched on Jesus. He traveled with Jesus, he ate with Jesus,
He sat at the Last Supper like the betrayer, didn't
infiltrate the team. The betrayer was already on the team.

(05:55):
The phone call is coming from in the house. And
the last two pairing very strange. Matthew and Simon. See,
Matthew was a tax collector. He was probably not only
the most hated Disciple, but he's probably the most hated
person in Rome. His job is literally to walk around
and collect tax money from people.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
You know, when you get.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Paid and you look at your check and they take
out that amount for taxes and you be so mad. Well,
imagine if you actually had to give the person Matthew
the tax money. It's like having to pay for a
boot to get off your car. I mean, has got
to be done, but you mad as hell the whole
time the tax collectors were in the group of most
hated people.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Then you got Simon the Zealot. Now I gotta be
accurate here because I.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Didn't know what a zealot was, and I saw things
about some organized revolutionary Zealots movement, but that came after Jesus.
So there's no way that he would have been named
Simon the Zealot, meaning being a part of that organization,
because they was calling him Simon the Zealot when he
was walking with Jesus and zelic can simply mean somebody
that's extremely zealous, but he carries that name in a

(06:55):
world that's filled with Jewish resentment towards Roman occupations. Simon
and Matthew were the exact opposites of one another. They
was like the Bloods and the crips, but they was
both walking with Jesus. So this episode I wanted to
introduce us to the twelve. In this quick series, we'll
also discuss the three gentlemen who I thought were part

(07:15):
of the twelve, John the Baptist, Paul and Luke, and
we'll finish it off discussing how all of these men perished.
I mean, walking with Jesus in those times really took
some confidence.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Man.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
You got guys that were flaid, yeah, skinned alive. It's
stories that disciples were sawed in half. Look, that's not
Sunday School. That's a television series. And I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Maybe you didn't either,
