Speaker 1 (00:00):
I welcome back nor It ass to another episode of
the most anticipated podcast, where on the Black Effect Podcast
Network was a title I didn't know. Maybe you didn't either.
Who the host me beat out and I want you
to envision me walking in the house mister Rogers style.
(00:23):
I'm taking off my powder blue cartigange and I'm putting
on my red I'm kicking off some retro Jordan e
Levin's and slipping into some brown ugs. I sit down
behind my desk hearing kick my feet up on the desk,
and before we start today's episode, I want to check
some direct mail. And this direct message comes from Diamond
(00:48):
Cam seven to three. She's a philosopher, a poet, a
teacher of wellness. She loves music and me. I'm all familia.
That's in her bio and her direct Messa Sich reads
as such, Hi, me and my family love your podcast.
One of my sons showed it to me, so we
(01:08):
send the episodes in group chats to coworkers, et cetera.
When I worked for a very large luggage and apparel company,
I shared your podcast with the whole North America organization
for Black History Month. I'm wondering if you've ever done
an episode on Joseph Baloney Chevalier de Saint George's. I
(01:29):
probably said that completely wrong. She says there's a movie
about him. He's a violinist in the seventeen hundreds. Keep
up the good work. We love you, And to Diamond
Cam seventy three, I would like to respond with I
love you too. As a matter of fact, I love
you you love wep. Sorry can't sing that for copyright infringement,
(01:54):
but in all seriousness, direct messages like these make our day. Here.
I didn't know, maybe you didn't either. We're genuinely appreciative,
and I will be doing a deep dive on mister
Blooney and dropping an episode because, as I told Cam,
My Bologney has a first name, it's Oscar, and she
(02:15):
responded that her Bologney had a second name, it's m
E y e r haha. All right, that's enough in
all seriousness, I appreciate domind Cam and anybody else to
listen to the podcast. Please send us dms I DK
M YDE with an underscore before it or after it,
or my personal dm B dot TV b d a
(02:39):
ht TV. And if you've been keeping up today's episode
is part two in a trilogy. We're learned about Jesus's disciples,
his original start in twelve. But before we get into
part two, it is imperative that I give you three
of the most useless facts. He'll never need, not a
day in life, never ever, never. I promise about the
(03:00):
other three. Your first useless facts, Paul. Do you know
Paul was probably never actually renamed from Saul. I know
you think I'm tripping. Hear me out the Book of Acts,
he uses both names. Acts thirteen and nine say Saul
who was also called Paul, but Saul was his Hebrew
and Jewish name, Paul was his Roman name. The Bible
(03:22):
never describes Jesus actually changing his name from Saul to Paul.
Your second useless facts, That boy Luke, he wrote more
of the New Testament than you probably think. If it's
true that Luca is the traditional author for both Luke
and Ax, those two books together count for roughly a
quarter of the New Testament alone by word count. So
(03:45):
the guy who wasn't even one or twelve wrote a
quarter of the New Testament. And your third useless fact, John,
the Baptists, him and Jesus they was related before either
one of them's ministry ever even started. Luke chapter one,
verse thirty six, say, Mary jesus mama and John's mama Elizabeth,
(04:06):
they was relatives. And here's a story that's even crazier
when they was both pregnant. Luke chapter one, verse thirty
nine through forty four got a story about John leaping
in the belly of his mama, Elizabeth, when Mary had
came to her house, like Mary just showed up and
John got the jumping up and down doing jumping Jackson
having a holy ghost moment in the wound Jacka's knowing
(04:28):
Jesus was present. That connection literally began before either of
them was even born. Those have been your three useless
facts about the mother three, because as I told you
last week, I would have thought they were part of
the original twelve disciples. They weren't. And do you know
what their responsibilities were? Because I didn't. I didn't know. No,
(04:50):
I didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know. I
didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know.
So digg it. John the Baptist, he actually had his
own disciples. As we told you last week. Anybody that
was a follower of Christ was considered a disciple, but
Jesus hand picked twelve disciples and named those apostles. John
(05:15):
the Baptists, even though he baptized Jesus, was not one
of those twelve. So that pain you used to seeing
of Jesus at the Last Supper with the twelve Disciples.
John the Baptists didn't make that dinner. Neither did Paul,
and neither did Luke. See, John was the forerunner. He
was preparing to wait for Jesus. He was out there
doing his ministry while Jesus was figuring it all out
(05:36):
and ready to come back at the age of thirty
and start his ministry for just three years before being crucified.
But John the Baptist stories showed just how dangerous the
world they was living in was. Do you know why
John got locked up because he publicly criticized Herod's marriage.
All right, so Herod antipists he's the Roman ruler, and
he marries Herodius, who's Herodias, his dad's other son's daughter,
(06:01):
his niece. But Herodias had been married to Herod's brother
per other uncle. So John will repeatedly quote to them
Mark chapter six seventeen through eighteen, it is not lawful
for you to have your brother's wife. Now with the
Jewish law Leviticus eighteen sixteen, it prohibits sexual relations with
(06:22):
a brother's wife, and Leviticus twenty twenty one condemns taking
a brother's wife. They locked John ass up for it.
I told y'all, Game of Thrones got me looking at
the Bible all the way different. You tell me this
couldn't have been. On season three, Herodias was married to
herod Philip left him and married his half brother and
her other uncle, Herod antipis, are you keeping up? And
(06:46):
then you got this John, the Baptist guy here preaching
to the folks how the marriage of our ruler is unlawful.
Locked up, no a con Now, herod Antipus has a
birthday party. At the birthday party Herodius's daughter, she dances,
and apparently she was throwing them Samaritan cheeks in a circle,
(07:07):
getting them Romans riled up. She did so well that
Herod Antwerpus told her, baby girl, look you see the
horse and carriage outside that could be yours, This castle
could be yours. I got a whole vault full of
money downstairs, that the ducks be swimming in from duck tails.
You can have all that, herod told Herodius's daughter she
(07:27):
could have whatever her heart desired. So she asked her mama,
what's she to ask for? Mama, and Herodias said, why
John the Baptist's head, my dear. And John was beheaded
and his head was brought out on a platter. Now
you're gonna tell me that right there? Doesn't sound like
(07:47):
Season five Game of Thrones. But this ain't HBO. This
is Mark chapter six. Let's talk about Paul. Also out
of the twelve. Matter of fact, Paul, he was originally
killing Christians and Dan Saul. On his road to Damascus,
he has an encounter with Jesus, who is now risen,
and he becomes Paul and eventually becomes one of the
(08:08):
most influential figures in Christianity, the ultimate one pint eighty.
Now here's the distinction. Paul is an apostle, He's just
not one of the twelves. Like when Judas dies and
the eleven ter replacement, they select Matthias, not Paul. And lastly, Luke,
also not one of the twelve. Paul identifies Luke as
(08:28):
a physician, and at the beginning of Luke's Gospel, Luke
basically tell you straight up, I research this like. He
references the original eyewitnesses and explains that he carefully investigated
these accounts, meaning Luke told us straight up he wasn't
sitting there at the Last Supper taking notes and I
didn't know. Maybe you didn't either. I
