Most people remember Tupac and Snoop as Death Row brothers and west coast icons, but few realize their friendship was badly strained in the days before Tupac's death. In this episode of IDKMYDE, B Daht explores how one radio interview, the East Coast-West Coast war, and a clash of loyalty may have prevented two legends from ever reconciling.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
I didn't know. Welcome Back, no itt ass to another
episode of the most anticipated podcast on the Block Effect
podcast Network, entitled I didn't know, Maybe you didn't either,
And I'm fresh off vacation. Four days in Cancom, Mexico
stayed on the resorts and was quickly reminded how much
I hate resort food. I don't like buffets, and then

(00:23):
when I'm out of the country, it ain't seasoned like
my americanized overseasoned food just so bland. The watermelon was
too red and the pineapples didn't have that citrusy kickback
that I'm used to.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
I mean, I ate enough to make a turd, but
that was about it.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
But what I love about resorts just so many different
walks of life. My girl Key and Bobby from Cleveland,
my girl Molly from Harlem, my girl Devin from the UK,
my boys Tam and g They in Dallas. Ran into
this dude Marcus from LA who's best friends were one
of my good friends that does comedy, Sidney Castillo, who.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Met this group from ban Rouge Louis.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
They would turn all week in and everybody on the
same type time. We all spent a couple thousand dollars
to have a good time. So don't nobody come in here. Up,
you find yourself looking out for people. The homies a
from New York night one passed out drunk in the lobby.
Next morning, we all laughing and joke and tell him
how we all saw him passed out last night. He

(01:20):
woke up with his jewelry on, his wallet in his pocket,
things that never would have happened if he'd done that
in New York. So, of course, to kick off this episode,
I've got three of the most useless facts you'll never
need not a day in life about resorts. Up First,
did you know it was a historical breakup at a
resorts in the United States. The year is nineteen seventy four.

(01:41):
The group is the Beatles, and they're about to dissolve
when John Lennon officially signed the paperwork while he was
staying at Disney's Polynesian Village resort in Orlando, Florida. Your
second useless fact about resorts the toilet telephone. See many
luxury five star resorts. They originally had them phones in

(02:02):
the bathrooms for a guest convenience. Cause you know, you
sit on that toilet, you think of all types of
things that you need. Damn it, let me call.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Housekeeping cane up here.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
You've been sitting there just thinking that we're gonna party
hard tonight. I'm gonna need to wake up coming before
am you finishing up? You look to the left and
the right. Excuse me?

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Can you have a house keep it?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Bringing some tissue up here and preferably some two plaw?
I know you ain't got three or folk flaw and
this one plot keeps sticking my finger through the tissue
and getting shocked.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
With under my nail.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
And your third useless fact about resorts. If you're ever
at an all inclusive resort in Japan, they don't want
you tipping. No, no, that's strictly against the local etiquette there.
Do not tip in Japan now, Mago. Oh, they expect
tips to the point where they'll ask you straight up
no din that on me? Goo bro, You just pointed

(02:55):
to a taxi like what are you talking about? Those
have been your three useless facts our resorts, and I
will advise you get the package you get there all
inclusive package. You can leave your debit card in the States.
You don't need a dollar for nothing. Once you get
to the resort. Now, as I was at the resort,
just like hundreds of others, I was on my social
medias and I saw.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Snoop performing in Long.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Beach and he had this Tupac visual and Tupac was
just telling them, yo, man, like I'm proud of you dog.
You're doing exactly what you said you was gonna do. Now.
The voice that they used for Park was horrible. I
got a comedian homie tattoo man page. They should have
used him for that. But seeing Park on the screen
with the angel wings and Snoop with his back to
the audience looking up at the screen talking to Pop

(03:40):
like they was having a conversation, I thought it was lit.
And then I went to the comments. They were saying
stuff like this was disrespectful. Actually, I said, huh, next comment.
Tupac would not have liked this. Me what next comment?
Anything Snoop does with Park, i'ma always side out of
the intention.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
What.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
But then the big one, the real Savage ninety nine, said, man,
they wasn't even speaking when Park died. Park started messing
with him while they were in New York because Snoop
went to a radio station and told the world he
ain't had no issues and it was all love with
Diddy and Biggie. That confused Pop, not only because of
his situation, because Snoop and dog Bown literally got shot
at in New York behind the.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
East Coast West Coast beef.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Park felt like Snoop bitched out and he ain't speak
to him at all. Then he died shortly after that,
and he never pieced it out. Pardon my ignorance, but
my jaw was on the flowe. You knew parkin Snoop
was beefing when Park dodcause I didn't.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I didn't know. I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
I didn't know. I didn't know.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
I didn't know. I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
This episode is brought to you by the unsents text message.
That's right, the unsents text message for when you're right
they're wrong, but neither one of y'all knows who's gonna
die first. The unsent text message drafted in anger. Regret
it forever back to your daddy.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Listen.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
I lived it, okay. I graduated high school in the
year of nineteen ninety seven. That means my senior year
started in the fall of nineteen ninety six. September of
nineteen ninety six is when Tupac was killed. March of
nineteen ninety seven is when Biggie was killed.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
My entire senior year in high.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
School was the apex of the East Coast West Coast beat,
and in my mind, Poc and Snoop was forever connected
two of America's most wanted ain.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
None but against Hody.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
West Coast, sug Low Riders, bandanas, the whole thing. But
that comments section put me in a rabbit hole of
old videos on YouTube, and when you watch some of
them interviews, you find out the things between Poc and
Snoop were not good. During the final weeks of Park's
life again nineteen ninety six, East Coast, West Coast Beef
at his peak, Tupac all in, that's why f Joe

(06:06):
bu fat mother getting money?

Speaker 2 (06:08):
What side? You know? How that went? And if you
was with Park, you was with Park.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
If you was against Park, you was against Park, and
your whole family was. There was no middle ground with Park.
He felt like they tried to kill him. Ain't no
verses gonna fix that?

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Now?

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Remember Snooping nineteen ninety six, he had just beat a
murder case, he was becoming a father. He was starting
to think different about the violence and all that around him.
He was trying to disassociate himself a little bit from
that whole cripping and gangster and move into pimping y'all. Remember,
Then came the comments they in New York Snoop on
Hot ninety seven. He tells the world he ain't really

(06:44):
got a problem with Big, you up Puffy, and it
was all love. Now, in twenty twenty six, that sounds
reasonable maturity, but in nineteen ninety six to park Man,
that sounded like somebody was switching sides right in the
middle of the wall. Saw an interview on you Tube
Duo would a guy named Napoleon said Tupac was in
a limo headed to the hotel when he heard Snoop

(07:05):
on Hot ninety seven where Angie Martinez talking about how
he was cool with Big and Puff, and he said
that it wasn't a situation where park wanted everybody to
be on his side against Big and Puff, but as
it pertained the Snoop, he said, when they was out
in La Snoop was in the studio Whip Park making
dish tracks to Big and Puff, but now we are
here in New York and you're on the radio, copp
and please, and this rabbit hole ain't just from outsiders

(07:26):
and witnesses. Snoop Dogg himself said that their relationship never
really recovered. He said one of his biggest regrets was
not squashing that beef for Park before he died.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Man, that is absolutely insane.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Like Park and Snoop, those like one of hip hop's
most iconic friendships. Man, to know that it ended with tension,
no finals, sit down, no reconciliation, No let me tell
you where I was coming from. Oh, I accept that, bro,
just unfinished business. Then September seventh, four days before my
freaking birthday in nineteen ninety six, my senior year in

(07:59):
high school, Tupac gets shot in Vegas after the Mike
Tyson fight. Six days later, two days after my birthday. Gone,
and suddenly the argument didn't even matter anymore. And that's
the part of the story that I think hit me
the hardest, because it ain't really about rap, It's about life.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Man.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
How many people walking around right now not speaking to
somebody that they love, a brother, a sister, a parent,
a friend over something that won't even matter five years
from now, probably won't matter five months from now. Park
and Snoop very ignorantly, just like many of us, thought
they had time.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Then that time ran up.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
And that's why this story still sticks with many of
us thirty freaking years later, because this ain't a situation
of two enemies. These is two friends that never got
the chance to become friends again.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
And I didn't know. Maybe you didn't either,
