Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hi, guys, welcome to a new episode of Legally Brunette.
I will be your host Emily Simpson with Shane. We
are going to do a little Christmas mini episode for
you to talk about the holidays. So, Shane Simpson, what
are your plans for the holidays? Do you have different
plans that I have? Do you have plans?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
I don't know, to spend with a beautiful lady?
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Yes? What's her name?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Emily Simpson?
Speaker 1 (00:25):
What else are you gonna do?
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Stay out of trouble, Shane.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
I have to tell you, guys, Shane was wrapping presents
last night.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, I always do.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
What are you talking about? You always rap presents. I
don't think i've ever seen you rap a present before. Okay,
what were you rapping? That's what I wanted? Were they
for the kids? Or were they for me?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
For the kids? Oh?
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Do you have any Christmas traditions that you do every
year with your family?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Wouldn't you know?
Speaker 1 (00:51):
No, I'm talking about like your parents, Like when you
were growing up.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Did you do anything presence on Christmas Eve? Probably because
we nagged our parents so much. Yes, was how we
normally did it, and then it kind of suck because
Christmas morning, you felt like there was nothing going on.
My parents were sleeping in. You wake up, you already
knew what you know. The few presents you had you
already got.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
So it was just kind of like, but you did
that every year. So you opened all the presents on
Christmas Eve, correct, and then you woke up on Christmas
Day and you were like, now I have nothing to do.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah, it just felt like a Saturday morning. But you
had you had some toys and stuff. He said on
me to be ungrateful.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Do you remember a specific gift that you got as
a kid that was amazing?
Speaker 2 (01:27):
I'm told you how many times.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Well, let's hear it. What was it? I don't remember
which one it was.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
It was the A Team slot car track. Oh yeah, yeah,
I got it in fourth grade. It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah yeah. Is that like the only gift you remember
from your childhood?
Speaker 2 (01:40):
No, I remember that.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
I remember getting a Nintendo set, and I mean these
are things like I waited like six months for. And
then the other thing I remember I got that was
memorable was I wanted a like an RC car, like
a race car. But I got the car for Christmas,
miss and then I had to wait till June to
(02:02):
get the remote control for my life. So I had
to wait six months. So I built it and I
just stared at it for six months. And when all
my friends were like playing with her race cars, I couldn't.
I had to wait till for my birthday. Shane's talk
about patients.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Stories as a kid, Yeah, they're great.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Oh what's yours?
Speaker 1 (02:23):
I can't remember anything. Well, we didn't have a lot
of money. The only thing I remember is getting My
mom worked at Bank one. Do you remember Bank one?
It doesn't exist anymore. She worked for Bank one, and
I remember in the fifth grade.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
She gave me, gave you money.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
No, I didn't get money. No, she gave me a
Bank one T shirt and an umbrella and that was it.
That was what I got for Christmas. I remember being
so mad and mad ever since, I'm so mad, yes,
and I've been mad ever since. Well, you know, I
did read something on Instagram, because that's where my you know,
that's all your knowledge, That's where all my knowledge comes from. Instagram,
(02:58):
and that's where all my news comes from. But it
it was some type of quote or something. It was
some parenting you know Instagram account that I that I
saw and it said, ask your kids what what they
got for Christmas last year, and they probably can't tell
you a single gift.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Probably not.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
And that's why it said you should take your kids
on trips and you should do things that create memories
instead of giving them material things. And that's why this year,
like we didn't buy a lot of things for the kids.
We are going to take a trip. We're going to
Park City after Christmas to go skiing, and then in
February we're going to go to New York City and
we're going to go to some Broadway shows and see
some New York like touristy type of things. But that
(03:37):
was and we were going to do that instead of
giving them like a whole bunch of gifts. Because I
don't know, I think it's better. It makes sense to me.
They don't think I couldn't tell you one thing I
bought them last year. As far as like what I.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Get you last year, I have no idea.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
I'll say, I'm going that's fine, buy me. I'll buy
my own things or just take me on a trip.
That's all I want. And you know what else I
want to ask, what do you think about adults? Buying
gifts for each other because I told you like I
was tired of buying.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
I mean, like a husband buying something for his wife.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
No, you should buy me something. I'm not talking about that.
I'm talking about like, should I have to buy a
gift for your cousin and your other cousin and your
sister and then your sister buys something from me. I
don't know. I just feel like, as an almost fifty
year old woman, like I just don't want to do
that anymore. I don't know. Maybe I sound like the Grinch,
but I just I don't want to. You are the Gratch,
(04:32):
I know, but I don't want to. I don't. I
don't want anything.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
And I don't. Did you buy your sister something?
Speaker 1 (04:36):
No? I didn't. I didn't. You know why I called
her and said, don't buy me anything for Christmas. I'm
not going to buy you anything. But you know, but
I said, let's just do things together, like we're going
on that horse riding trip for my birthday and she's
coming on that and that was expensive, and we went
to Paris over the summer, so I'm like, let's just
do stuff like that, Like I would rather have trips
and make memories together. You don't have to buy me
(04:58):
a gift card and mail it to me so anyway,
I don't know, definitely makes some memories to what are
What are your thoughts on that? Like do you think
I'm just asking the audience? Like do you think that
you get to a certain age where you just shouldn't
be exchanging gifts with adults?
Speaker 3 (05:11):
I feel like it's being full thoughtful things to exchange,
like spending time together or maybe a thoughtful gift. Maybe
it's not so much like a materialistic thing, but it's
something that someone needs or something right.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Yeah, Like if I saw something and it really reminded
me of you.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
I guess solves a problem for them, or it makes
it a little bit easier for them, or they might
get some enjoyment out of it.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
But I guess what I don't like is being forced
into buying something for someone just to satisfy, like a
gift exchange type of situation. So I just buy something
and wrap it up and hand it to somebody.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Yeah, so then I've just described marriage. Yeah, buying someone
a gift just to satisfy them and say there I
did it.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Now leave me alone.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
It's fine. You don't have to get me anything for
Grost too late? Oh what did you give me?
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Experience?
Speaker 1 (06:00):
An experience, the Shane somewhere, the Shane experience.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
And Sydney on a trip somewhere.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
What do you think about the kids? Do they get excited?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Love them? Oh?
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Yeah, I know you love them. But what do you
think they think about holidays? Do you think they get excited?
Speaker 3 (06:21):
I think this year they're not very into like the
elf thing isn't as.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yes, we did the elf again. I'm sorry, I'm so
I have to give Shane credit Shane ninety.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Yeah, you have to because I do it all.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
I know Shane ninety five percent of the time does
the elf on the shelf. I'm over it. I don't.
I'm not interested in moving that thing around or making
like elaborate scenes that mess up my kitchen and bathroom
and have flower everywhere and him hanging and I.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Well, I think the ELF's is going to be retired
after this year.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
I think so too. The boys are ten, almost eleven,
and I think they finally are at that age where
they're they're not as excited. They used to love it, though.
They remember they would wake up every morning and they'd
go downstairs.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
They had to.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Wait until everybody was awake, and then they would all
go look for the house.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
That was my notice to get up and go downstairs
and move the health.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yeah, Shane has a horn on his phone that says
move the elf, and it would go off every night.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Actually it says Christmas just in case they actually, oh,
they saw it.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
That's right, right. So do you have any presents that
you're giving to someone that you're excited about?
Speaker 2 (07:31):
No? No, am I supposed to do?
Speaker 1 (07:35):
I don't know. Just sometimes I think.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
I got my dad a bowling bag and bowling shoes.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
You're excited about that?
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Yeah, then we're going to take them to get a
bowling ball.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Okay, how old is your dad?
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Eighty? It'll be eighty three and for work.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
So Shane's sad is eighty three. And they just started
this new thing that they do weekly that I think
is so cute. They go bowling together on Thursday on
Thursdays every week. And so, so you got your dad
a bowling in a bowling bag.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Then my sister got him like some shirts, I think
bowling shirts.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Where do you get bowling.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Shirts at the bowling pro shop?
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Is there a bowling pro Shop.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Yeah, really yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
And Shane's pretty good at bowling too. I have to
give him credit. Okay, he's all right, he's pretty good. Shane. Actually, Shane,
for someone who never goes to the gym and you
wouldn't think was like very athletic at all, he actually
surprises me. Like when we first got married, I didn't
he like skis really well well.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
And then the opposite of someone that goes to the
gym all this time, it's always falling apart and can't
lift anything.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
So who are you talking about? No One? Anyway, back
to Shane, he's actually very like somewhat athletic and good
at things. So I don't know, it's surprising, Like he
skis really well, he bowls well. You know what we
went on when we went on the iHeart Trip. I
think we went to Tahoe. You played pickleball really well.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Oh all right, you did too, you're yeah, but I
meansted down the door when Keller got was locked in
the bathroom.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Keller got locked in the bathroom when we went to
Palm Springs, and you did like a one kick and
took the door down. Two kicks, oh, two kicks. So yeah,
there's some surprising things about Shane and that little five
foot seven package over there.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
On Judge a book by its cover?
Speaker 1 (09:20):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Is there no true crime in this podcast? No, it's
just some traditions you would like for Christmas.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
You went at fifty. You want me to start some traditions?
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Why there's no rule you had to start when you're younger?
I think, oh, what do you wish you had?
Speaker 1 (09:36):
I think we should go to Paris every year. That's
going to be my Christmas tradition going forward. I think
we should spend Christmas in Paris. Can you make that happen?
Speaker 2 (09:44):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Okay, thank you, that's what I think.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Paris, Texas or Paris, California.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Paris, Paris, Paris, Paris. Yes, that Paris, Yeah, Patti, Yes,
it's beautiful. We went last year in December at Christmas
time and it was beautiful, except Shane had hives for
the majority of the time. So I did a lot
of things on my own.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Yeah, what was that about? It stressed me out?
Speaker 1 (10:09):
I trust you out in Paris.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
I don't know. You're trying to get me in trouble.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
I'm not.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Then we're gonna got out to the podcasting. You're like
you're so mean to me. No, I promised I wouldn't
say anything negative towards you.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
So okay, all right, Well that's our Christmas tradition as
Shane just tries to stay out of trouble. And I
want to go to Paris, so there we are.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
No, what's a no? But that's you. What about something
for kids? Like, what do you like? What do we
do on Christmas Eve?
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Well, we we play games and we have dinner and
that's really all.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
We do, like beer pong or something.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
I didn't buy beer pong. I thought she's like.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Give me some red Solo cups and some pung ballsas well.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
It doesn't involve beer.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Oh, it's like prizes were in the cups or something.
Speaker 1 (10:59):
Yeah, and then whatever they get it and they can
win a prize.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Or do you get the prices yet?
Speaker 1 (11:02):
No, I haven't done anything. Really.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
We just put chores in there.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Yeah, let's do that. Let's put chores in there. Yeah
that would be fun. Yeah, okay, we'll do that. We'll
let you know how that goes. All the kids like that,
and we need to go look at Christmas lights. We
still haven't done that. I have several addresses.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
There's Oh yeah, why don't we go tonight?
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Okay, we'll do that, and I want to take the dogs.
Oh to look at the Christmas To look at the
Christmas doesn't work.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
They're going to bark at the Christmas lights. They will
three kids and three dogs. Yes, yeah, don't forget the cats.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
No, cats can't go. Why because cats don't like to
ride in cars, so we're not doing that. All right.
Well that's the end of our many Christmas episode. So
I hope you enjoyed our tradition traditions. Thank you for
listening to Legally Brunette. You can always follow us on
