Speaker 1 (00:00):
Dynasty.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Okay, oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Every single year, probably around February, we begin as fantasy
football players to look back on the mistakes we made
in the season prior and come up with the narrative
as to why it all went wrong. On today's show,
we're gonna be talking about probably the most volatile position
you can have in redraft and certainly in Dynasty. We're
(00:30):
talking about running backs. But guys, I have great news.
It is June, and I have finally solved the mystery
on one of the biggest fantasy disappointments of twenty twenty three.
It maybe June. School may be out for most every
single First of all, I haven't thought about school in years.
Like we're far enough away from school where I'm like,
I'm bringing that up. It's like, we have no one
who listens to this shows summer. Yeah, what is I
(00:53):
don't I'm an adult.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
But here's what I would say, school maybe out. Pop
quiz Dylan's here, Toms is joining us. Welcome to the
Dynasty Exchange.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Guys.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
I want to know right away, what is your theory
as to why Austin Eckler was such a disappointment in
twenty twenty three. Keep in mind I have the correct answer.
You do not give it your best shot.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Is this actually a fantasy or a football answer or
is this something that's completely unrelated, because I feel like
keep throwing.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
It, Dillan. It's it's a narrative, and it's a football answer.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Okay, football answer. Okay, it's a football answer. I mean
mine would be Staley as a football answer. Staley was
the problem. But I have a feeling it's that simple.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
I will give you partial credit for that, because that
guy should never have been a head coach. How he
survived To all the Chargers fans listening, he was a
survivor bro the loss to the Jags in the playoffs
two years ago when they were up was it twenty seven?
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Nothing? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Like that's insane. He's a defensive coordinator, by the way,
and he fired the OC and the quarterbacks coach who
was Herbert's guy. You want to talk about being able
to shift blame. I admire it like that dude. That
dude would have survived almost anything. Thomas, what is your
theory as to why Austin at Eckler didn't succeed?
Speaker 1 (02:05):
I don't have one. I have two. I think old
age and injuries.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Okay, those seem to be valid reasons. But keeping in
the spirit of June and in the spirit of narrative Street,
because that's what we're doing at this point of the year.
We are telling ourselves stories as to why our teams
and our players are going to succeed. Every third round
player you have, their path to start them is so clear.
Right now, here's the real narrative. I was watching this
(02:35):
deep cut. I was watching a documentary on Netflix with
the wife. She's like, Hey, I really want to watch
this documentary. It's about this cult of TikTok dancers in California.
Long story short, It centers around these two sisters I forget.
Their last names is Melody, no no, no.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
No.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
One is named Miranda I think, and one is named Melanie,
and they they rose to start them and one of
joined a cult, like a really bad cult. The other
one is trying to get her sister out. And things
really came to a t in twenty twenty two going
into twenty twenty three, when the sister who was trying
to get out her other sister from the cult was
(03:15):
getting engaged to Austin Eckler Austin Eckler had a ton
of stuff going on at home. It wasn't a bad offense, Dylan,
could you run the ball between the tackles? Well, if
you knew that your sister in law was in probably
the worst contractual situation with seven M films and a
spiritual leader who has a long history of sexual abuse
(03:36):
of other people like I would not be able to
focus on football. I think Austin Eckler is going to
be a great value. This is the this is the
type of analysis, this is the type of analysis only
the Dynasty Exchange can bring you. No, No, only guy,
only great guy. Go get him on the Washington Commander's
bounce back season incoming. It's gonna be great.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
No, No, I mean I don't even I don't even
know that's advice.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
To begin to break that down. Listen, I mean, if.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Hold on, if that's the kind of research you can
expect out of me.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Game was his game was off because his wife was
dealing with his with her sister's call twin sister, her
twin sisters, the whole family.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
You got to watch the documentary I think it's called
Dancing with the Devil on Netflix. It's about the TikTok
Dancer cult. You can find. It's super popular right now.
As a fan, first of all, I'm like half paying attention.
All of a sudden, the sister who's kind of the
star mentions that she gets engaged and I see Austin Eckler.
I instantly perked up. I was like, wait what, I
(04:50):
was like, it was the Leonardo DiCaprio meme from Once
upon a Time. He's like, I know that guy. Was like, Babe,
that's Austin Eckler. He had a really disappointing season last year,
and I was like ten times more engaged in the documentary.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yeah, in old age or bad offense it was.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
It was a TikTok hold.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
It was because Dylan what if it played? What if
it played? Ten difference? And now he's on the Commanders,
he's away from that. She's probably gonna get out of
the cold. Ekler to the Moon Man, Eckler to the Moon.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
I don't not disagree that good good, No, I do
not disagree that Eckler will be better. It probably has
absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he married
into a TikTok cole family. I'm just saying it's the
fact that he got out of a bad situation and
went to a better situation.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Which is what his sister in law needs to do.
I'm very I'm very documentary.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
Are the Chargers such a close knit team that this
affected the offensive line, the defense?
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Justin Herbert's play? You know, you never know, man, Mike Williams.
I'm just wondering if this was, like, you know, part.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Of the all issue in all seriousness, I think it was.
I will say this that there is a takeaway. It's
important remember these football players have dynamic lives going outside
of football, and a lot can change and something. You know,
we're talking about running backs. One of my favorite tips
I got from it for redraft purposes is always look
for a running back playing in their contract year. They're
(06:22):
going to put their body on the line a little
bit more than other players. Like, there are things to
remember with the narrative Street I just thought when I
was watching it, I'm like, oh, I've got my show
intro because this is so left field, weird plug And
I'm just a fan of Austin Eckler as a human.
He's into fantasy football. So I had to come on.
I had to come on and defend him because he
(06:42):
was If you drafted him in redraft in the first
round you had, you did not make playoffs. Like, unless
you traded him away week one, full stop, you didn't,
you didn't.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Make I was.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
I had the fourth pick in my Fantasy football redraft,
and I was all the way up until draft time.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
I had Tyreek Hill in my cue. I picked Austin Deckler. Wow.
I would have won.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
The championship hands down. I barely made the playoffs, barely
made the plusoff. I'm still disappointed in myself.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
It happens, man, But running back it's a super volatile position,
and like I said at the start, it's it's even
more volatile in Dynasty. And Dylan, you and I we've
been playing together a long time. Dylan can speak to like,
what what are some running backs over the course of
your career that you've seen, just kind of the full
cycle with Like, who were some running back memories just
from you know, maybe maybe give us a couple of
(07:38):
names that other people wouldn't remember. We always bring up
Antonio Gibson. You drafted him as a rookie. Great find Eckler,
you know I did. I did?
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yeah, I mean Eckler. I mean you got I mean
we're still kind of in the circle of Christian McCaffrey.
People forget that. Well, just what two years removed from
him giving us a two year hiatus of elite's artem
that we thought we were getting when we drafted him first, second,
third overall in those seasons. So you've got that cycle,
You've got the Todd Gurlees of the world. Where what
(08:07):
do you mean happened to him?
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Do you remember him on the Falcons? Yes?
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yes, yes, and then oh what's his name?
Speaker 1 (08:15):
Well?
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Remember you got the D'Angelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart that
were in Carolina. You guys remember that back in the day.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
That was like I wasn't playing Dynasty. You remember Spencer
Ware on the Chiefs. Do you remember like when the
Chiefs would always have a rental man? There's there's nothing
like that. The random running back guys.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
Do you remember Jamal Charles Boom Charles score like six
touchdowns and you'd be like, it's just a regular.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Date Freeman Freeman?
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Was he dope?
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (08:50):
I mean, oh, you can't forget. We cannot forget David Johnson.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
David just retired Special championship. Yeah, same that My first
ever championship was thanks to David Johnson. Well, listen, on
the other side, we're going to take a quick break.
We're going to be talking top twelve Dynasty running backs,
and then we got some crazy values. The reality is,
the entire theme of the show is there's just not
many sure things when it comes to running backs. But
(09:17):
the guys at the top of the list, we do
got to talk about him because there are a few
who you can perhaps build a roster around. So we're
going to dive in to all of that right after this.
Like I said at the top of the show, it's June.
Every running back's healthy, all of them are going to
score double digit touchdowns. That's just the nature of Dynasty
Twitter right now. That's the nature if you're talking fantasy
(09:39):
football at this point of June. Because I don't know
the exact math on it, but I'm pretty sure we
are as far away from football being played as we
are from like football having been played, Like we're right
in that middle of like it's been a long time.
Like the draft gives you that juice, it gives you
that excitement for your Dynasty rookie drafts and then it's like, Okay,
hurry up and hurry up, and w we've got some
(10:00):
ota cliffs. But in that time you come up with
these crazy stories like Eckler's affected by a cult or.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
Chase being just the standout star at ruffelow Bill's ot.
It's so consistent.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
I mean, I just I just traded Mike. Keep in mind,
it's a twenty twenty seven. Picks like these are far
out uh in League of Record. He wanted Dylan Laubey
the running back for Las Vegas because he's loading up
on guys that if narrative street works out, you know,
Blake Koram's of the World, Trey Benson's. It's like, these
guys could be rb ones. You're one. But we don't
(10:40):
talk enough about running backs on this show enough. Dylan.
I feel like you and I we're a quarterback wide
receiver driven show, because Dynasty for the most part is
a quarterback wide receiver driven game. And then depending on
the format, there's some tight ends. But let's just we're
gonna go through our top twelve. Then we got some
different values after that. Really, when we were chatting, I
don't think any of us have a different top four.
(11:02):
Is there anyone in the top four guys that we
I mean, our order might be different, but I think
looking at it, we all have the same the same
four candidates there, right.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Yep, yeah, we've all got the same core. Absolutely, Thomas
different order though, I think.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Yeah, Thomas ledisov for you, who's your top four? What's
the order? You know it's gonna be the same cast
of characters, But how would you rank them?
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Well, I'm gonna I'm a Bjon believe, Like, I just
think Jon is going to set the world on fight
this year.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Got the new coordinator in town, new quarterback.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
It's can take a lot of pressure off of him,
like you can't stack the box.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
So I'm going Vjon number one. I'm going to resolve
for the basically the same reason. We got a young
guy who could do it all. Like, you know, he's
a three.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
Down back, his offense is going to be a lot
better on paper, and you know, I just don't see
somebody taking taking carries away from him this season.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Jamir Gibbs is my third.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
He is probably the guy with the most upside, but
also you just got to be wary of David Montgomery
taking away some of those touchdowns like vultureing touchdowns from him,
that may be a problem, but you want guys like
that on your team, with that kind of talent and
that kind of versatility. So I would put him third.
(12:21):
And the only reason I have Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
Fourth is because.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Eventually it might be ten years from now, but I
gotta you gotta make sure that we understand Christian McCaffrey,
as great as he is, the Hall of Famer that
he is, is getting older. So we just have to
be mindful that the wheels will fall off at some point. Now,
maybe you'll retire before they do, but at some point
(12:51):
in time, we're gonna have to have live in a
world without Christian McCaffrey getting two thousand yards from scrimmage
in twenty touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
So that was are my top.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Now before you, before you pass it, Dylan, I'm excited
to hear yours, Thomas speak a little bit to the
psychology we talk and last season will always bring us up.
We feel there's three types of dynasty teams. You've got
tanking for the future, you know, completely rebuilding. You've got
productive struggle, which I don't know that Dylan has ever
fielded a team that isn't productive struggle. It's that, hey,
(13:22):
we're trying to win now. No, we're always constantly trying
to get younger no picks, but yeah, it's just kind
of a weird And then and then win now, which
Dylan also floats with just win now teams. You may have,
you know, McCaffrey at four in your overall dynasty rankings
if you're doing a startup drafts. But if I am
a win now team, wouldn't you want McCaffrey leading off
(13:42):
all of those four guys you know, for the next
two years at least. Couldn't you make a case McCaffrey
at one depending on your team.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Still, I could make a case that he's the best player.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
And if you if you want to win one year,
I can make a case there's no better player to
have on your team. I mean, regardless of position, list
of position, I mean, there's nobody who's close as far
as like Elijah Mitchell had a three year but his
rookie season. But we know we can see a difference
(14:11):
when we look on the field and we see.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Christian McCaffrey play, There's nobody like him. He is a
one of one. You can do so many different.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Things with him, and he's got Mike Shanahan, He's got
all these different weapons around him, and he still gets
the job done. There's still question I mean all of
the top three that you still have some sort of
question marks about. Like I mentioned Jamier Gibbs, with David
Montgomery in the backfield, vulture and touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
You got Breize Hall who's had injury in the past, so.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
We don't know what that offense is gonna look like.
With Aaron Rodgers as well, like it could be more
past heavy than we expect. And then you got b
Jon Robinson. There's a lot of new faces coming into
that offense, a new coordinator.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Things may start off rocky.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
We have to take all of that into consideration. And
with these receivers is the same thing we have. We
have so many we have justin Jefferson has a new quarterback,
Jamar Chase is dealing with his contract issue, and t
Higgins is in town still and you know, uh ceedee
lamb goes as that goes.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
But Christian McCaffrey is the safest bet.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
You will have if you are trying to win this year,
because you know what.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
You're gonna get bar in any injury. He is the
man and he will always be the man for a
long time.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
Yeah, that's well, said Dylan. Any any additional toss in
the top four. The reason I'm not even gonna add much, Dylan,
because we did our top four and for these are
one of the rare times in the Dynasty Exchange we
had the exact same ranking. I think up until like
running back seven, I think gas something.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Remember I said I had been pondering, so I did.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Well, Thank goodness. Yeah, no, it wouldn't be a show
without us vickering about something. So I'm glad we found
if there's real.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
There's absolutely no way that.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
We lested about ten minutes. Guys, we made it through ten.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
You said I have this player above this player. I'm like, okay, now.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Change my mind. I don't even like the way it
sounds like.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
I'm not even like the play. It sounded no.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
So for me, starting at one, I have Breese Hall.
To me, he's the number one guy for me. I
think he's the most sure when it comes to running back.
And we're talking Dynasty here right Like Redraft, Yes, I
would take CMC overhaul probably, but when it comes to Dynasty.
Give me Breese Hall. We saw what he did last
year in a mangled offense that basically all they had
to do was stack the box against him, and we
(16:38):
still saw him do what Breese Hall does. So I'm
not worried about him. And that was towards the tail
end of the year where we saw, okay that a
cl injury is not going to really matter. Now there's
always the risk of reinjury, but that's with every running back, right,
So I like Breese Hall. To me, he's my favorite
to build around. If I needed to build a round
a younger running back, I would take him over these
other three guys.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
For me.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Number two is Gibbs, And I know I understand people
are like, oh my gosh, Jon, and I think we're
still kind of got the Bijon hype going on, where
he's this generational player that came into the league. We
want to do this, he's in a great offense, blah
blah blah blah blah. Listen. I don't hate Bejeon. I
still think he's going to be a superstar. I mean,
he's at three for me. But Gibbs, he beat out
(17:19):
the competition he already faced adversity and dere or David
Montgomery playing one of his best seasons that he's had,
and Gibbs was still able to earn touches, was efficient
with the touches that he got and produced and nothing
changed around him. So give me that, and not to
say that those two can't flip flop, but for right now,
I want Gibbs, the proven commodity that I know and
(17:40):
see and know what his offense looks like and how
he's going to be utilized in that offense. We still
don't know what Yeah, yeah, we still don't know what
Bijon is going to look like. That offense I think,
I think, and I'm pretty confident will be better. I
don't know to what extent. I don't know what it
looks like. I don't know what the offense is going
to look like. So for now I have Bejon at
three not that much of a drop, and then yeah,
seems see it for for me, I mean he I
(18:03):
differ in the fact that I don't think he's the
safest I don't think any running back is the safest player.
I would still probably take one of the big three
wide receivers and a redraft league over taking c MC
or even oh Gosha just because of the safety and
the lower risk of injury. Right, I mean, we've seen
CMC disappointed, not saying that he will. All these guys
could get injured, and just all it takes his one hit.
(18:25):
So that even in a.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
One quarterback league, I would say I would take five
receivers probably before I touched any of these one q
in a one QB league dynasty.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
PPR, because if he's don't have PPR, I'm taking, I'm
taking I'm taking a touchdown upside of I'm.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Taking maybe adown you.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Just mon raw Man like, I'm like, Amra is at four, right,
so you got Ceedee Lamb, Jamar Chase, justin Jefferson, Monra,
I'm taking all four of those guys. And then that
you know, is it Marv is it? Puka? Is Garrett
Wilson's take a running back? That's yeah, me too. There,
So there's four, there's four wide receivers right away I
(19:08):
would take first, and then with where tight ends are
at and all that. And once again that's a one
quarterback league. Super flexes are preferred style, so obviously a
lot of quarterbacks are getting taken before those guys, at
least for us. But in terms of building, you know,
I think we talked about the top four CMC. We
agree if you're a win now team, I would be
willing if I felt like I had a roster that
was ready to go this year, if I had a breeze,
(19:28):
I'd be willing to go get CMC and maybe a
little extra capital on top and just say, hey, I'm
going all in on this year and chasing the ceiling.
Because what CMC was was he was in a league
of his own, a tier of himself on a points
per game basis, on an upside basis. When you talk
about those three young guys in Briee, Bjon Gibbs, I
think Gibbs has the safest floor. I think he has
(19:50):
the highest floor, and I think it's the because he's
connected to the best offense. But I got Brie at
one and I agree with what you said, Dylan. It's
it's incredible to think how can go when the ACL
is fully recovered, which it now is, like he was
still coming. We forget the Aaron Rodgers injury. Takes all
the limelight off of the Jets and like why they
(20:10):
were disappointing. Can you imagine Brees now with Aaron Rodgers,
plus the fact that he's a year removed from recovering
from that acl not just oh hey, he's kind of
getting his legs under him. So there's no bad options there.
I'd be happy to take any of those guys after
those big four receivers. Not a lot of controversy there.
The next three I have because we all have the
(20:32):
same four slightly different orders. I've got Jonathan Taylor at
running back five, and I think this is the most
forgotten about elite piece in fantasy. Dylan, you have a
love affair with Anthony Richardson that puts Romeo and Juliet
to shame. But JT is a very key character in that,
in that ballad and in that play. Yeah, he's like
(20:52):
one of the Capulo cousins or something I don't remember.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
But JT against all weird and nerdy, Like, what is
a Capula cousin?
Speaker 3 (21:01):
It was Montague Encapula. I'm sorry, I'm.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
Culture how many people know.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
I'm sorry that I know just the two families. Thomas
knows it. Hey, Dylan, listen, there was a trained excellent
descpion on the show. And it ain't me and he
is feeling very disrespect right now, Thomas, how do you
feel that Dylan is disrespecting classics?
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Like, let me ask a question, Thomas, how many times
have you played Romeo in the play?
Speaker 1 (21:27):
That's a that's a zero for me, yeah, zero zero zero.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Yeah it's irrelevant, yeah, Josh, but you yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
We read all We read like every every single play.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
So yes, I do know, and yes, just a little nerdy,
but you know that's what we do.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
That's what Thomas. At least at least at least you
owned it.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
I'm just I'm just not going to take disrespect from Dylan. No, same, Yeah,
what are you talking about? I want hard hitting Gus.
Is we play a game based on another game where
we count statistics.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
I don't know, it's not that I guess, but yes,
my love affair with a Rich in that offense. So
Jonathan Taylor is actually at five for me as well.
And a lot of this has to do with I mean,
Jonathan Taylor and a Rich help one another. That's really
what's gonna what it comes down to a Rich. Yes,
(22:24):
he's gonna run the ball. I actually don't think he's
going to run the ball as much as people think
I think he'll be effective in his running, but he
needs to protect himself with that. What does that do?
They still have to beware of Anthony Richardson not just
running the ball, but the dude's got a rocket of
an arm. What does that do? It forces defenses to
not be able to load the box? What does that do?
Opens up for Jonathan Taylor, which is what we saw
(22:46):
very similarly his breakout year, because that was I'm pretty
sure his breakout year was the Philip Rivers Philip Rivers
year where it was just gun slinging. I mean both
when Philip Rivers and Wentz were there, it was just
gun slinging, right, just throw the ball all the time
and so up the lanes for Jonathan Taylor to really
just run wild, I think we're gonna see something similar.
As long as a Rich is healthy, they're gonna help
one another out. A rich and Jonathan Taylor are healthy.
(23:08):
As long as they're both healthy. I like Jonathan Taylor.
I think he could have a huge year, and I
mean Stiken's gonna find a way to get him the
ball and get him the ball effectively. So I love it.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Also here he got the contract extension. Yes, remember last
year there was so many questions about his future because
we were like he's holding now is this whole thing?
He gets the contract extension, so you have that peace
of mind. Hey, I think I think Jonathan Taylor is
what Zeke was three or four years ago, you know
what I mean, Like, you may not be getting the
RB one year after year, but you're not getting anything
(23:40):
worse than the RB six or seven. Like that's how
I feel about Jonathan Tator.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Yeah, he on that floor hurts. Jonathan Taylor is the
fact that a rich similar to what we've seen with
Lamar Jackson in the past, He's not gonna dump it off.
He's gonna run it. So he's not gonna get a
whole lot of passing like receiving work Jonathan Taylor. But
I mean, I still think he's gonna be efficient and
effective enough to the ground where he's going to be
a top five guy in touchdown on Thomas.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Any thoughts on JT and then who's that kind of
next year of players for you? Because I think we
all still have the same three or four guys similar
to the top four. It starts to vary a lot
when we get to like RB ten but any thoughts.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
On JT, I don't have a lot to add to
what ch'else said.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
I have him five as well, and I think I
think Anthony Richardson is going to open.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Up some wide ass lanes for JT to run through.
They're gonna do a lot of RPO.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
It's gonna be a lot of people trying to pay
attention to stop Anthony Richardson because that man is an athlete.
But you were saying that you might get a running
back six to seven season from Jonathan Taylor. I don't
I see a world where he could be RB one
two like like, because I think we're gonna have like
the same effect. And this obviously I'm not comparing these
(24:49):
players apples to apples, But like Robert Griffin the third
when he had Alfred Morris, and Alfred Morris had like
sixteen hundred yards, everybody was paying attention to Rob Griffin third,
I think that's gonna happen in this situation. They plan
they play indoors. They just don't have a lot of
downside to Jonathan Taylor this year. Like you said, Josh,
(25:10):
I think partially he may have a dip in his
receiving production, but I don't see that not being transferred
over to his rushing upside. So I don't I have
dived in Taylor five with a bullet after him, there's
a big drop off, I think to number six.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Yeah, I hear you. First of all, Dylan is the
one who said he was gonna have less faul passing words.
But unfortunately for the sake of the show, I agree
with him, which is we had five we agreed with
really quickly. I actually have my number six, Saquon Barkley,
in a similar deal.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
Tier.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
I am a static about Saquon. It's not apples to
apples again, to borrow your phrase, Thomas, but Christian McCaffrey
going to the Niners, I think we forget how bad
the years were with the Panthers because it was just injury.
He was still great on a per game basis, But
why are you putting your body on the line if
you're not playing for a championship team. Saquon Barkley's finally
(26:09):
going to a competitive team and he's always struggled with
little injuries things like that. I am so excited to
see him and not just a good or a serviceable offense,
but an unbelievable top ten NFL offense with amazing weapons
all around him where you can't load the box. DeAndre
Swift had a renaissance season. DeAndre Swift had never really
returned on any sort of dynasty value. He flashed in
(26:32):
a couple of big games and things like that, but
he had never put together. It's the same season has
his best year with the Eagles last year. Saquon gets
the bag. Saquon's been a generational prospect We've talked about
for years. He always looks incredible on film. The Giants
are just that bad of a dumpster fire. I think
we're all sleeping on Saquon because he's been around for
so long. But I think he's got so much due.
(26:52):
He's one of those outlier guys where I'm like everyone
else's drop off his age twenty eight, Saquon's is going
to be thirty thirty one, and I feel that same
way about him in CMC. So, I think after Saquon
is when it gets kind of like a bit of
no man, Let me play.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Let me play Devil's Advocate real quick. Let me play
Devil's Advocate with Sakon because I have him at six.
So I don't completely disagree with you, However, it's something
that I thought about. The Saquon hype is absolutely at
its peak right now. Right he went to the Eagles,
way better offense, way better situation than he has ever
been in in New York. Right, New York has been
a dumpster fire since they drafted him. Is there any
(27:29):
chance at age twenty? Is it twenty seven or twenty eight? Saquon?
Speaker 3 (27:34):
So he'll be twenty seven right now, I don't know
when he'll be twenty eight?
Speaker 2 (27:37):
So age twenty seven, are we maybe underestimating the fact
that he was a volume back? He has always been
a volume back. He has not been an efficiency back.
He's always gotten everything passing work, running every touchdowns in
their goal on the goal line, like everything in New York.
Go into Philadelphia, that's not gonna be that, that's gonna
(28:00):
be the case. They just paid their two wide receivers bank.
They've got a quarterback that they paid bank. And I
just don't know that he's going to get all the
work that we think he's gonna get. I think it's
going to be very very reliant on his efficiency. Now,
my question to you guys, is is that a concern
is do you think he can still be efficient so
you still in that offensive can finish top ten.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
I'm not concerned top I'm not concerned about at all.
I hear your point.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
I don't see a world where that offensive line. I
know they lost Jason Kelsey, and I know everybody's like,
weren't crazy over that, they still have a lot of
a lot of pieces on that offensive line that will
open a lot of holes for him, and they I
sa Quon Barkley has been I would say he hasn't
been in official I would say obviously he's been.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
A volume play.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
But I would say the Giants offensive line during those
years was one of the worst in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
So you have to give.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
He is still the talent that was drafted the second
pick overall. And I believe that if DeAndre Swift and
Miles Sanders we still have with Miles Sanders, If Miles Sanders.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
Have another gread yards, yeah, and.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
Then go to Carolina and look like hot garbage.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
Saquon Barkley is going to flirt with twelve thirteen, fourteen,
fifteen hundred yards.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
This offense is going to be.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Glirt to watch flirt. Bro He could flirt with two
thousand yards.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
I don't know about that.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
I don't I'm not projecting that. No, No, I'm talking ceiling.
I'm talking ceiling like everything goes incredibly well. You have
a special player on and I hate to say, as
a Cowboys fan, a special team because of the offense
you just talked about. There's room that offense could be
a top three offense in both passing and rushing. The
big concern, if there is any, is the rushing touchdowns
(29:50):
or Jalen Hurts. I think that's gonna I still think
there's gonna be enough to go around for Saque. But yeah, Thomas,
you nailed it with Miles Sanding. I forgot about Miles Sanders.
That's a great point.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
I believe just see your point.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
I do believe that that that the Russian touchdowns for
Jalen Hurts is going to come down. This is I
have no I have no evidence to back this, but
I remember watching Jalen Hurts just limp around towards the.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
End of last year. He just looked beat up.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
I don't know if they want to just keep putting
them in that position where he has to take on
those hits and hit get hit by those defensive tackles
right all game. So I'm more in the in the
camp of is gonna get a lot more goal.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
Line carries than we anticipate.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Yeah, I mean, I obviously agree with you guys. I
just think if you guys are saying Jalen Hurts rushing
touchdowns are going to go down, I'm worried about Jalen
Hurts if that's the case as a as a.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
No, I brought that up. I brought that up. I
think a couple of months ago. Fifteen rushing touchdowns, thirteen
of them being from like inside the one I think
it was or no, I think I might be mixing
up to Gus everything, but it was it was a
crazy amount. Yeah, from like one yard or less.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
It was.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
It was really really High's move on. Try to get
through these these next twelve. I've got ETN Kyron Williams
so seven, ETN Kyraen Williams eight, Kenneth Walker nine. That's
a tier for me, seven, eight, nine, All of them
I feel safe to build around. But I don't treat
them as a true RB one. I don't treat them
(31:17):
as like a And when I say true RB one,
what I mean for dynasty purposes, is this player is
worth two first plus? I'm not moving them. It's gonna
take a blockbuster deal to get it done. I would
happily part with kyn Kenneth Walker or ETN for DK
Metcalf and a pick in most leagues, if I'm getting
the wide receiver, you know, certainly a George Pickens and
(31:39):
a first. He's on every team I have. You know,
these are good players, but they just don't have that
Kyen has the upside, but he doesn't have the long
like the situation in my opinion, where I trust the longevity.
He doesn't have the contract or whatever. He could be
kind of a flash devant.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Why are you laughing? Tom was ova under for the
time before George Pickens came up. Conversation.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
I'm sorry, it's listen at this point, you got to
wear it like that. I'm obsessed. I'm obsessed.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
I think that's I love it.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
I think it's every episode, every single episode we've ever recorded.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
I don't think we've ever done.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Even with Hey, Matthew Berry, you know this guy, George Pickens,
He's a sleeper.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Did I pick it? Did I bring up Pickens?
Speaker 2 (32:20):
I wouldn't be surprise.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
I'm I gotta check the tape.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
I'm not doubting you at all. I'm like, I probably,
I'll be honest. That's my brand at this point. Like
George Pickens. If he if George Pickens finishes the year
as a top five wide receiver, he needs to send
me like a thank you, like I'm the herald, like
I'm his biggest Your.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
Dreams are gonna be crush. Whenever Brandon i Uk ends
up and see it are Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
I doubt that they are. They already would have made
that trade if that was gonna happen. Anyway, Let's getting
back to these running backs. The one I actually feel
the safest building around if I'm gonna keep him long term,
is Kenneth Walker. But I have him ranked nine because
his upside isn't as good as Etns or Kyrine's. So
that's just where running backs get weird. That's where narrative
street happens. I love Kenneth Walker. I think he's a
great runner. I'm really concerned about that Seattle offense as all.
(33:04):
I have no idea what it's.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
Going to look like, though, Dylan, though I don't think
anyone does. I mean, yeah, so to just kind of
stay up with what we're doing. Seven eight nine for
me is etn Kenneth Walker and then James Cook for me.
I have Cook above Kyraen. I know, yes, all the
madness about Kiren. I agree with what you said so far.
Kenneth Walker. I love Kenneth Walker, love the talent they
(33:27):
have sharbon Ay there, although the the the regime that
drafted Sharps is no longer there, so I don't really
I literally have no idea what it's going to look like.
I think Kenneth Walker is the better running back of
the two, so I'm relying a lot on that and
the fact that they do have a defensive head coach
McDonald or Yea McDonald, the former defensive coordinator for the.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
We've got too many McDonald's, McDaniels like mcm like.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
It's just it's getting ridiculous. There's too many mcmcmack. But
the defensive head coach, I mean, I like to think
that going to run the ball a little more and
just rely on but they do still have DK and Jason.
I have no idea, but I'm gonna trust in the
talent of Kenneth Walker there and similar like what you said,
these aren't. This is a different tier for me. These
three are in the tier alone for me. Where Yeah,
(34:13):
it's a similar like I'm okay, I through my RB one,
but I better have someone that's close in value as
my RB two with them, Like if I have a
give me a check as well with it.
Speaker 3 (34:23):
Yeah, or give me that older guy who can score
a lot like a Derek He as well, something like that. Yes,
I'm done for that. That's the look. That's the look
if you're competing with with these guys as your quote
unquote RB one for dynasty purposes. Yeah, Now, Thomas, I
feel like you have a build like that.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
I do know I do.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
I do I so I have to so that too.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
Running back heavy teams that we're in this cartel and.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
Exchange shows that you're new.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
You're new to this.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
Ab No, I got I got Walker, I got cooked,
I got the mere white Tony.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Like I I like to I have.
Speaker 4 (35:01):
If I'm not putting my faith in one or two
running backs, I'm putting my faith in six running and
I know one of them is going to have a
better season than anybody anticipate. Karen Williams, for example. But
my next ones are I have actually a little bit
of a variation from you guys.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
I have ETN at six. Yeah, I'm not buying it
into the Tank big to be hype. I'm not buying
into all of the the you.
Speaker 4 (35:30):
Know, the lip service that we're gonna try to you know,
give Tank the ball and blah blah blah. No, I
don't buy into it. I thought Tank was a good
prospect coming out. I'm not sold on me.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Huh, yeah, well know Tank Bigsby. I remember I was
so hyped on Tank Bigsby for Redraft, and everyone else
is like, hey, a lot of people Doug Peterson always
uses two backs.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
I personally think Killan Robinson's a better running back than
Tank Pigsby. So if anyone should be creeping up on
the carries, it's gonna be Keillan Robinson.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
And I'm just saying, and that's fair because I'm gonna
say this.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
I like Sayking the Big Ban College. I haven't seen anything,
not one thing from him since he got in the lead.
Not a flash of any kind that makes me think.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
I've seen a flash of negative exactly, yeah, exactly, No,
sorry to interrupt but like he was he was. He
was the Cadarius Tony of running backs. Not nearly as
entertaining in terms of personality, but like Jeny it was
like they would handtake the ball and it would like
they threw him a pass, he tips it up in
the air, gets intercepted like Tank was a nightmare. I'm
sure he does better than he did last year, but etnd,
(36:34):
being that high, do you not do you not worry
about the inefficiency? Towards the end of the year, he
was very touchdown reliant that kind of stuff. Does any
of that raise red flags for you or you just
you're all in sight.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
I don't worry about that. Tell you why.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
I know he got he got banged up pretty good
in the middle of that season. And also you got
to think about it, they lost Trevor Lawrence. That takes
away a lot of your efficiency because they're.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
Gonna stack the box against you when he had I
think C. J. Fethers came in or somebody like that.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
But you know, I think in context, like I take
all of that into consideration, but I mean, this guy
is a dynamite receiver.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
Like his receiving upside gives me.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
A little bit more of I kind of I want.
I want players that can do, especially running backs.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
We talk about running backs to day.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
I want running backs that can catch the ball too,
if I could get it, like obviously you get.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
A Derrick Henry or somebody like that.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
You know what you get, and you get touchdown equity
you're getting, you know, rushing upside and all of that.
But if I could, if I'm going for top ten
back majority of them, I want to have a ceiling
when it comes to receiving the ball.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
He is one of the better receivers at the position
in the entire league.
Speaker 4 (37:46):
And when Trevor Lawrence is in trouble, he's got Christian
Kirk right.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
But we don't know.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
Gave Davis didn't show us nothing last year, so I
don't know what to think about Gave Davis. Brian Thomas
is still apparently raw because he dropped for uh, he
was supposed to be in the top fifteen picks. He
dropped all the way to twenty three, so we you
know he's still got Evan Ingram. But those targets have
to go somewhere from Calvin Ridley and I'm just not
(38:13):
sure the other two are ready because they both need.
Speaker 3 (38:17):
No. I mean, here's a Evan Ingram might break almost
broke the tight end reception record. Now there's a checkdown option,
it's Evan Ingram. Now he did catches going back to college. No,
he did. He's he's got a good baseline. But I
don't think he's ever going to be the past catching back.
We wanted him to be coming out of college as
Trevor Lawrence pass catching back at Clemson, like he was
(38:39):
amazing there because he craign wrong. He was clemsing back.
They were together. No, you're trying to remember the same class.
Like I think he gets used a little bit too
much as a bell cown and he's not on the
field on third down. In fact, when he was not
as available, it was on third down. That's when Tank
Bigsby was coming in. That's when, Oh, who was it
last year some of the act deanners, jos Deernest Johnson,
(39:00):
That's exactly who it was. I don't think if ETN
was more balanced in his use with third down, if
it was like kind of like how the lines do it,
where it's every series not every package for third down,
I'd be higher on ATN.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
I just have.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
Fatigue I think he's not used as good as he
could be, but he was an awesome back last year.
I think he's gonna be. There's just certain guys I'm
out on for years that I'm like, I shouldn't have been.
Joe Mixon. I was like, oh, I was always fading
Joe Mixon. Joe Mixon has been an unbelievable dynasty back.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
But Tom, I don't know, who do you have at seven?
I got Okay, so Saquon you had.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
I got et I just I think I think Saquan will.
I like if we talked about Jalen Hursts and not
putting up as many touchdowns, but I do think those
some of those touchdowns will.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Go to Jalen Hurts.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
He's not going to like not have any, but you
just might not have thirteen Etn. I don't see competition
from Darnest Johnson or Tanks Bigsby from goal line Ferris,
I don't see any competition from Trevor Lawrence. Think they're
going to lean on him just as much as they
did last year. And I'm willing to say take a
chance on the upside of having him over Saquon it
(40:10):
just in this scenario.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
But they still close. They're close. They're still close. Man.
Speaker 4 (40:14):
But at eight, I got Karen Williams. At nine, nobody's
talked about this guy, but I got Josh Jacobs. I
know people are fading him, and I know, like Marchron
Lloyd getting a lot of props and all of this stuff.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Blah blah blah blah. I get it. That's a great offense, man.
The number the number one running back on that offense
eats they eat.
Speaker 4 (40:38):
Now Lafloor might decide to go with, you know, a
committee backfield.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
That's possible.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
I'm willing to take that chance on Josh Jacobs, them
running him into the ground, knowing they could get out
of that contract this year. I'm willing to take that opportunity.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
But that's but for dynasty purposes. That's that's that's my point,
like right there. If it goes well for Jake, it
is because they ran him into the ground and they
only used him for one year, so the dynasty value
is not good. But it's a committee and he lasts
a long time.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
But if he's succeeds, they will bring him back. They
will bring it.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
If he's spoiler alert, spoiler alert. Marshawn Lloyd is one
of my favors now. Guys Josh Jacobs was so inefficient
last year. I think that his crazy RB one ish
fin or. It wasn't RB one, it was RB three,
I think, but he was like on a tear two
years ago. I think that was the outline for his career.
I think he's a I think he's the definition of good,
(41:33):
not great. Marshawn Lloyd, I'm very in on Matt Lafore
loves a committee. We gotta remember you talked about that
being a great offense. It was and is it only
had six rushing touchdowns last year. They were and Jordan
Love was able to like to turn it into a
great offense. I don't think they're suddenly going to jump
up to twenty rushing touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
I just think that was the reason the twelve. I
think that was the entire reason was the fact that
they don't trust EJ. Dillon.
Speaker 4 (41:58):
Baron Jones was hurt and getting old, so they had
to get somebody they could use around the goal line,
who they could use, who they could right.
Speaker 3 (42:05):
But they also drafted an absolute thoroughbred that I think
they're also.
Speaker 1 (42:09):
Going to use.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
Granted he doesn't have like capital that like his worries me.
He's got decent capital. Marshall Lloyd that is, I think
I don't hate Josh Jacobs. I think it's a little
too high for my liking because of solely because of
the dynasty volatility, right, Like if he goes out and
doesn't do if he's just average, they're moving on from him,
Like he has to be standout, spectacular Josh Jacobs are
(42:31):
two years ago in order for them to actually pay
him right now, will he get another job? Sure, but
as we're seeing, like there's more and more committee backfields,
and so if you can get the guys that I
have above him, like the guys like James Cook, Like
there's not anyone that's really gonna threaten James Cook for
carries there in Buffalo, or even Kyron Williams or Pacheco.
(42:52):
Those guys they're younger and they have a little bit
more stability.
Speaker 4 (42:55):
Push back to that, if we're so worried about Marshawn Lord,
why aren't we worried about Blake?
Speaker 1 (43:00):
They have the same draft cap.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
Oh, I'm not worried about Marshon Llwyder. I'm not worried
about Marshall Lloyd. The little. I think he could get
the work Josh Jacobs. We're banking on efficiency. When he
was RB three two years ago, he got it was
the same thing with the sick one.
Speaker 1 (43:14):
It was volume.
Speaker 2 (43:15):
He got everything. Marshall Lud's going to get his I'm
not saying he's going to be like a complete fifty
to fifty, not even sixty forty. It'll be a seventy
to thirty at best. But I think it's going to
affect Josh Jacobs.
Speaker 4 (43:26):
My my rebuttal to that is Josh Jacobs. If we
remember everything. To me, everything is in context right.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
Josh Jacobs started the year out.
Speaker 4 (43:36):
I think it might have been two weeks before they
were in.
Speaker 3 (43:40):
His sister was in a cult as well.
Speaker 1 (43:42):
In exactly really did drafted beating off of his energy.
Speaker 4 (43:48):
No, listen, Josh Jacobs had the contract issue, he wasn't
in camp. It was a long long time before he
even got in shape, and when he came back to
football he was completely out of shape. I am, I'm
a stand there's a hesitancy because of the efficiency and
the metrics, but he didn't have a quarterback last year
that took.
Speaker 1 (44:07):
The pressure off him. I mean, you're dealing with Aidan.
Speaker 4 (44:09):
O'Connell and Jimmy Garoppolo, Like, who's who's gonna pay attention
to them throwing the ball? So I'm gonna give Josh
Jacobs credit. I'm gonna say the offense is so good.
Josh Jacobs has no choice but to be good. And
that way is that way if he's good. If he's good,
why get rid of a good running back?
Speaker 1 (44:30):
Thomas.
Speaker 3 (44:31):
Problem is not your take. The problem is not your
take on Josh Jacobs. The problem is your ranking of him.
You haven't RB You're you're leaving out Davon h James,
James Cook.
Speaker 4 (44:43):
Everybody's worried about, you know, David by Davis taking his
goal line Carries I'm talking about I'm looking at it.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
James Carries were going to get the majority of the work.
Speaker 1 (44:55):
I'm looking at it like that. I'm looking at it.
Green Bay and green Bay in a great offense. Josh
Bacobs has a chance.
Speaker 3 (45:01):
So Josh Jacobs the definition.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
But it is taking a chance on somebody who could
have a wonderful year.
Speaker 1 (45:09):
There you go start.
Speaker 3 (45:10):
I think, first of all, in Redraft, I can buy
into that and take the risk and all that. It's
just in Dynasty. Any running back that gets to their
second contract, to me, they have to be a special,
otherworldly talent for me to want to keep him as
a running back. Josh Jacobs is on his second contract now.
He's a very good back. He's the definition of good.
I think he is David Johnson on the Texans. You
(45:33):
guys remember those years where it's like, hey, he's still
got some he's still got some juice left, he's solid,
there's some touchdown upside. Are we really going to be
surprised when Josh Jacobs finishes as RB eighteen, RB twenty
next year? And we have a lot of questions and
issues because listen, he could even stay on the Packers
and produce that for another two to three years. But
the excitement, the hype, the upside that I'm going to
(45:53):
pay two firsts for him, I'm going to pay a
first plus for him and you can reroll the position
is gonna be gone. It's because we're going to be
chasing the new thing. He'll be ancient and running back
years and he's not enough of an elite talent. He's
not a name that is considered for the Hall of
Fame likea Derrick Henry like a Christian McCaffrey, like a
sake one Barkley where you trust it ain't it ain't
blue magic like we talked about last show. You know
(46:13):
what I mean, It's just not a name.
Speaker 4 (46:14):
But I'm the same what you're saying. But I think
it's also a little bit of recency bias.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
I do.
Speaker 4 (46:18):
I think last year is putting the South taste in
people's mouth. Before that, Josh Jacobs has some really good
years with Derek Carr, great with.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
Yeah, he was a great running back and he led
the league in rushing two years ago.
Speaker 4 (46:29):
Like I understand, I think, I'm just I think Josh Jacobs.
And this is honestly, I'm not telling anybody who has
you know, who wants to play the safe game to
pick Josh Jacobs. I'm saying, if you really want to
roll the dice on a great offense, and the guy
who's going to get the majority of the touches, Josh
Jacobs is you and a talented guy, Josh Jacobs.
Speaker 3 (46:52):
I can't you know it checks those three boxes. I
just think that the red flags outweigh how much it
checks those boxes. Really quickly. Before we move on, we
all really have kind of different guy. So past RB eight,
would you guys say, it becomes a real crap? Dylan,
you mentioned Isaiah Check. Oh he's not in my top
twelve at all. Oh yeah, Devon a chance at my
RB ten. He's one of the most volatile names in
(47:14):
Dynasty right now. What that guy can do on a
per touch basis is Jamal Charles esque, if not better.
But because he got injured in year one, there's I mean,
it's it's amazing to think and so interesting to wonder
if he had stayed healthy all of his rookie season,
would Devon a Chan be a top three guy in Dynasty?
(47:34):
In Dynasty minds, Yeah, think of the games he would have. Yeah,
that's what I'm saying, Like, think of the amount of
points he would have put up.
Speaker 2 (47:40):
Holy cow, at top three. I don't know about top three.
I think top five. Yeah, for sure, I mean he was.
I mean I guess already at some point he was
like RB five or six. So you're the if it's
KATC we're talking about, probably he probably would have been
top three. Now we could play the if ands waz
or butts. I love Devon a Chan, loved him coming
out knew he was gonna smash, but also knew he
(48:00):
was gonna get hurt. And that's always been the concern,
and that's going to always be the concern.
Speaker 3 (48:04):
When you're a bunder sized back.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
Soaking wet, right, and so dude's lightning fast. I just
I cannot have him in my top twelve because there's
other guys that I trust a lot more. And also
McDaniel's going to use a different running back, like he's
going to use Raheem Moster he's going to use They
just drafted Jalen Right, who I love Jalen Right. I
thinks a great he's another one. He's like to me,
he's similar to Devon ah Chan, not as fast but bigger.
(48:29):
So it's like he can use him interchangeably. So I
just with that offense, I just don't trust von a Chan.
Speaker 1 (48:35):
I would agree with that. Man.
Speaker 4 (48:36):
I love the thought of Devon E. Chang more than
the actual like drafting of him.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
I yeah, I think that.
Speaker 4 (48:45):
Yeah, he's like special, Yeah, he's special, he's quick, he's elusive.
Speaker 1 (48:50):
Is that sustainable? Though? Like when he played in the playoffs,
againt Kansas City? Where was he? Where was he? You know?
Speaker 4 (48:57):
But yeah, he really had a chunk of this and
where they were playing, and I think that it was
the Broncos, the Giants.
Speaker 1 (49:03):
I could be wrong. I think it was the Commanders.
I think a lot of those games came against the
bottom feeders. Yeah, and that that.
Speaker 4 (49:10):
Just makes me a little like it gives me a
little ick about drafting him and putting all of that
capital into him. But I know he's a hot commodity,
but I just I wouldn't do it personally.
Speaker 1 (49:22):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (49:23):
A question for you because you you have him A
ten question for you, So you're you're saying you're comfortable
with him being your RB one.
Speaker 3 (49:31):
So this is where it really comes down to roster construction.
Like I don't want to build around anyone outside of
the top five. And that's stretching it, you know what
I mean. Like Devon a Chan is someone I go
get if I believe he's going to string together. He's
the kind of player I trade for in season if
I'm making a title push, and then trade away before
(49:52):
the season even completely ends if I don't like the
end of the Seamont's like a rental.
Speaker 2 (49:55):
Let me ask you this. If you're let me give
you a hypothetical team, right, and tell me if you're
okay with this? Your running backs are Etn and e Chan? Okay,
your wide receivers are Garrett Wilson, uh, Pokinakua and like a.
Speaker 1 (50:12):
This is a loaded like something.
Speaker 2 (50:15):
Oh god, I forgot. Everyone loves freaking pookin a coo
and Garrett Wilson. Okay, let me not do pook cook
because everyone it's more so like Garrett Wilson and Nico
Collins are your wide receivers. How do you feel about that?
Speaker 3 (50:26):
That's a great Once again, is it a ten team league?
Twelve team league? Like it's all depending on context? Are
you trying to say?
Speaker 2 (50:33):
Okay, I'm just trying to say, if you're compromising.
Speaker 3 (50:36):
How about this. There's a team. There's a team that
has like Christian McCaffrey, and let's pretend they have like
what you said, let's do Etn and Devon A Chan.
Their receivers are Michael Pittman Devonte Smith.
Speaker 1 (50:48):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (50:49):
I want to say the thirties like Zay Flowers.
Speaker 1 (50:52):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (50:52):
Is that like a better example?
Speaker 2 (50:53):
I would take that one hundred percent. I would take Pittman.
There's a lot of guys I would take over Pookinaka
shouldn't said Poknaku because I know how Wow, God.
Speaker 3 (51:02):
That's just you just took You tried to make an
example and just totally took a left turn on different values.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
But I know here we go, we're gonna cook. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I'm not Obviously I know the market, so I'm not
gonna trade Pukanna go straight up for Pittman. I wouldn't
do that, but I mean I would prefer a Pittman.
Speaker 1 (51:19):
I mean I would.
Speaker 3 (51:20):
I'll end my thoughts. I'll end my thoughts on a
cham with this. He is the definition of risk. I
feel if I have him on my team, all I'm
feeling is a risk if I'm trading for him or
if I'm playing against him, I'm just I'm terrified of
the reard. Like we forget the guy put up like
forty two points. I remember in Redraft League I had
like on like ten touches. The dude is lighting in
(51:43):
a bottle. I don't think you can build around him,
but I'll be damned, I never want to play against him.
And so if you can harness that with a roster
like Dylan talked about, that's a team that can go
win a championship and and punch up. You can have
you can have the type of roster that's weaker by
every men other than the running back position, and devon
a chan can carry you on a playoff tear to
(52:04):
a championship. He is special, but for most builds, I
wouldn't I wouldn't have him on my team because it's
not a long term sustainable thing and it could fade quickly.
Speaking of which, we're going to take a quick break
so that we don't fade quickly. We've got values on
the other end of this, so please stay tuned, Welcome
back to the show. In true Josh and Dylan fashion,
(52:25):
and Thomas is easily not easily, he's seamlessly becoming a
part of this problem. We couldn't even get through the
official top twelve. We just we just turned into a
complete crop show. But the reality is that actually speaks
to the running back market and the running back value.
The top four that we mentioned, I think you can
build around five to seven. You're taking a risk and
the rest it's pick your poison. Speaking of picking your poison,
(52:49):
we wanted to highlight some guys that are unquestionably outside
the top twelve that maybe you should be paying attention
to whether you're a win now team or a team
that's just trying to be more competitive will still be young.
These are some cheap values that you're trading four leagues
where you're trying to make a push. Guys, I'm gonna
start off with my favorite. I didn't mention this pre show,
(53:11):
but David Montgomery. I am a Gibbs owner. I want
to start out by saying that I am a huge
Jamior Gibbs fan. I'm a big, big believer in Jamier
Gibbs and his upside. Think Jamior Gibbs can finishes the
RB one overall in the season. But I think David
Montgomery is the reincarnation of mark Ingram while Gibbs is
Alvin Kamara in his prime. We forget that. Oh why
(53:34):
am I forgetting his name? Mc dc is was on
staff with New Orleans as a coach when mark Ingram
and when Alvin Kamara were doing their thing together, and
Alvin Kamara was always the better back. He had top
five finishes, top three finishes, but mark Ingram was right there.
Sometimes I think in an RB eight finish and RB
(53:55):
twelve finish, RB fifteen. I think David Montgomery he got
a very good contract when he came to the Lions.
He's going to be there still for quite some time,
and I think it's such a good offense. When he
does come to Spell, it's going to be valuable. David Montgomery.
You can maybe get for a high end second, like
a high value second. You can get him for receivers
(54:16):
like you know, Josh Downs plus. I'm sure if someone's believed,
like Dylan you're a Josh Downs fan, if you were
rebuilding you had David Montgomery, what's the lowest wide receiver
you would take.
Speaker 2 (54:25):
For David Montgomery. Yeah, I mean Josh Downs plus for sure.
I don't know, Yeah, it would have to be. I
don't know what you can get. I don't know the market. Honestly,
I have no idea what the market would be for
David Montgomery. I have no clue right like, people are
they paying that? Are they paying for him right now?
Speaker 1 (54:41):
Like?
Speaker 2 (54:41):
No?
Speaker 3 (54:41):
I mean I have him in an orphan team that
I'm in and he's not worth selling. He's not going
to get a first. I wouldn't trade him for a
single second. So if someone's willing to sell him for that, Hey,
David Montgomery will be on all my teams. I think
we're talking about high end RB two numbers. It's just
not sexy. There's no new there's no future upside. These
are I think eight touchdowns almost guaranteed the rest of
(55:03):
his time in Detroit. Give me that all day. I'll
take that into my RB two. I'll take that in
my flex. And by the way, if you're the Gibs owner,
you can start him as well as Gibbs. Plus, he's
that high end handcuff. He's a mushaf for every Gibbs owner.
Dave Montgomery is the accessory you need this season by
now a price series. Oh my gosh, Thomas, who's your
favorite value? You want to high?
Speaker 4 (55:25):
Yeah to uh, you know, put a ball on at
David Montgomery thing. When David Montgomery hasn't been sexy since
the first year. I think he came out of the draft.
Every year, everybody's just tried to avoid him like the plague,
and he always puts up numbers.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
It's crazy. My biggest value I think is going to
be Zach Moss. I don't love the player. I don't
love the player, but and you're.
Speaker 4 (55:50):
Not supposed to say player or I mean situation over player.
Speaker 1 (55:53):
Right, this is this is the one. This is the one. Well,
this is my one exception, not my one except but
if you don't believe that, if you don't believe, if.
Speaker 4 (56:03):
You believe player over situation, this is an exception to
the rule. This is situation over player. I don't care
if you like Zack Moss. He's going to score twelve touchdown.
It's a gift. I'll just write it down. Chase Brown
is not getting goal line carries Zach Moss. The Cincinnati
Bengals offense is a well aid machine at this point,
(56:25):
and they've only gotten better through the draft.
Speaker 1 (56:28):
It is going to be a cake walk for him.
Speaker 4 (56:32):
He might not get a thousand yards, but I promise
you the goal line work is going to him. They're
gonna trust him more so than they do Chase Brown.
Chase Brown might be the third down back, but we
don't know that for sure.
Speaker 1 (56:44):
We really don't.
Speaker 4 (56:44):
We just going by what we went off of last
year and Chase Brown's receiving upside.
Speaker 1 (56:51):
I only saw screen passes. I only saw screen passes.
Speaker 4 (56:54):
I don't know if he has the same upside that
people in the industry believe or his ADP will reflect,
but I believe Zach Moss being solo in ADP, you
have to go and get a starting running back for
offense like that, who you know does not have another
option when it comes to goal line work. I think
(57:14):
he's maybe the best value in fantasy right now.
Speaker 1 (57:18):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (57:20):
Bold statement.
Speaker 3 (57:21):
I wish I could disagree, Dylan, any any thoughts to
qualify before we hear your favorite.
Speaker 2 (57:26):
I mean, I just think I like Zach Moss, and
I do think he's a value. I do think Chase
Brown is just as much of a value. Honestly, personally,
I like Chase Brown. I think he's a lot more
dynamic than was shown last year. And I don't think
I don't think they really knew how to use their
running backs last year, like they were just kind of
ride the hot hand. And I think Chase in Indianapolis, no, no, no,
(57:48):
I'm talking about Cincinnati. They yeah, they had they had
Joe mix in and Chase towards the end of the season,
they were like, Joe Mixon, Wait, Chase Brown's actually good.
But let's look, it was kind of like this back
and forthy thing. So I think Chase Brown is actually
a pretty good runner of the football, and we saw
that in college at Illinois. He broke so many records
for Illinois and set so many records on the ground
(58:08):
that he's a good running back. I think it's being underestimated.
I do think it'll be a split backfield. I think
it'll be a little bit more frustrating. You're gonna get
frustrated if you go for Zach Mosson think he's going
to get the Gus Edwards treatment and you're gonna see
Chase Brown on the goal line. So I don't know.
I think I could think you'd be a little bit
closer than you think than carrieus Listen.
Speaker 1 (58:25):
I could see a world where it is a split backfield.
But I would be remiss if I didn't say this.
Speaker 4 (58:31):
I don't believe there's a world where Chase Brown is
getting goal line work over Zack mass.
Speaker 1 (58:37):
At this stage of his career. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (58:39):
I'm just saying, like they signed him for a reason,
and Chase Brown could have They could have signed somebody
to not be the starter and let Chase Brown just
do b be the lead in this comman, it's.
Speaker 2 (58:51):
The running back position.
Speaker 1 (58:52):
Hug.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
Also, for any team to really do.
Speaker 1 (58:55):
Like you so.
Speaker 4 (58:56):
Joe Mixon, he Joe Mixon head. I think he points
something your average. He looked like he just looked washed
last year. Yet they feed him in the ball. They
trust these guys who are a little bit older, true,
who have this like who just a grinders and Zack Moss.
Speaker 2 (59:13):
Well, I think it's more of a thing. They learned
their lesson. They did this whole contract thing with Joe
Mixon and they were like, I don't I don't know
if we want to pay him, he wants more money.
Do we pay him? Do we cut him? But they
did that whole thing, so now they're just gonna, Okay,
let me get Zach Moss for cheap. We have Chase
Brown on a rookie contract. Let's just have a cost that.
Speaker 4 (59:34):
I just want to like, I believe that they're not
looking for electricity in their backfield. It's obvious what they're doing.
They just want stability, like Joe Mixon. They could have
gotten off Joe Mixon years ago. Joe Mixon has been
declining in his production for years, yet he still was
just their guy and he just kept feeding him the rock.
Speaker 1 (59:54):
I just believe that that's the Cincinnati.
Speaker 4 (59:57):
Bengals way of thinking. So that's why, and Chase Brow
maybe a far superior talent. I just think Zach Moss
is gonna get all of that work that Joe mixing up.
Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
Sorry, I would I would love to qualify. I'm not
a Zach Moss guy by any stretch, but I love
great situations. And then what wins me over really for
either of those backs, Chase Brown or Zach Moss, And
Zach Moss is probably gonna be the cheaper. It's the
acquisition costs, right, Like how much does it cost to
go get? Potentially? Like there's a world and I hate
(01:00:27):
to say it where Zach Moss is a top ten
RV on the air and it's because he fell in
the end zone like you said twelve times, like it could.
Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
Happen to Zack Moss is higher in value than Chase Brown.
Speaker 3 (01:00:39):
Than Chase Go get give me Chase backs, give me Chase.
Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
Two, and Chase Brown's down at RB thirty eight.
Speaker 3 (01:00:45):
Both are values. Both are values. I agree, but I
do like Chase Brown. But that doesn't mean you're wrong
about about Zach Moss. Dylan, who's your value?
Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
And what katc value speaking of is my guy is
right behind your guy and KATC. You had David Montgomery
at RB twenty two. I've got Javonte Williams at RB
twenty three. I think that's a steal to me.
Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
It's a steal.
Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
You can you can look at the offense last year
and say, oh, he didn't do so well, he was
super inefficient.
Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
Blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
That offense, I'm crumpling it up and throwing it. Sean
Payton was just trying to figure out, Okay, how can
I get Russell Wilson out of here. Let's bench him
and then just let's just figure this out next year.
Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
Let me just sit him on the bench and figure
it out next year. Javonte Williams also coming off of
an ACL injury. There were times where I like you
saw the old Javonte Williams, where he's just his bulldozer.
Everyone's all hyped up about. I think Julian mcloffin's still
going to be the passing pass catching back. Javonte Williams
is getting all the goal line work and he's gonna
(01:01:45):
he's going to get the primary important carries. I'm not
worried about Audrick estimate. Audrick estimate, yes, is a tank
of his own. He was a fifth round running back.
He's more so death. I'm not worried about him. I
think Javonte Williams has a chance to have a bounce
back season and can be used in a show payton
offense that I expect to be very, very run heavy
as they get bo Nick's kind of acclimated to the NFL.
(01:02:06):
And if you have that with a rookie, rookie rookie
what the rookie quarterback. Let's try that one more time,
rookie quarterback, and you can have a Javonte Williams getting
the ball. I don't know, He's probably gonna get the
ball fifteen to twenty times a game. Give me that
all day, with the healthy Jivante Williams and RB twenty three.
Speaker 3 (01:02:22):
It's I'll take that.
Speaker 2 (01:02:23):
I'll take that all day.
Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
You know how, I feel like Javonte Williams is this year,
not at all from a play style standpoint, not at
all from a situational standpoint, but just that kind of
that fatigue, that dynasty fatigue that's going to recapture value.
He runs me a lot of Gendre Swift. I feel
like you're absolutely right, Dylan like this was a dynasty
darling that we've all kind of like given up on.
But his situation recovering from injury another year move because
(01:02:49):
we were all shocked.
Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
I was shocked.
Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
Javonte Williams like started the year.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
He came back so quick and didn't look at bad.
Speaker 3 (01:02:57):
He didn't look back. It was like, why are you
This was not a good decision. And because I remember
in redraft, I was like, I'm not He's not even
gonna play like I drafted some a J. P. Ryan
like everywhere because I was so confident. Javonte Williams wasn't back,
but he was there. He was just at seventy percent
of his powers and that was not in the NFL.
You need to be playing at one hundred percent at
all times, guys. Any last flyers you want to mention,
(01:03:19):
like deeper cuts, guys you love. Mine would be Jerome Ford.
We talked about Marshall Lloyd already. I'm a Nick Chubb owner.
I believe in Nick Chubb. I think he's gonna come
back and be great. But until that time, Jerome Ford
is basically a free square. You could be getting RB
one numbers until such a time as Nick Chubb re
enters the fray. That's someone I pay a lot of
attention to because he's cheap to do so. Thomas, anyone
on the on the value menu, that no pause before
(01:03:42):
I give you that. Actually one of the biggest loss.
McDonald's value menu is now like four dollars an it.
Speaker 2 (01:03:48):
Do you guys remember the dollar val There's no such
thing like I'm still.
Speaker 1 (01:03:51):
Grieving from that, man, Yeah, I remember doubles.
Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
There's a lot of things.
Speaker 1 (01:03:57):
I get a.
Speaker 4 (01:03:57):
Small fry flood dollar and a small drink dollars.
Speaker 3 (01:04:02):
Golden age, not today Golden age, bro. I mean, America
is divided about a lot of things. I think we
all want the dollar value. Men, you make I think
all of us. I don't think there's a single if
if anyone in America is against that coming back, that's
the only people I think.
Speaker 2 (01:04:17):
I'm like, Hey, I got the slogan for our show
matter what make America dollar again?
Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
Dylan, that's a terrible No, that's probably that's just not
We're flirting with a with a pretty controversial savement politically.
It's a terrible it's a terrible idea.
Speaker 2 (01:04:37):
I was going back to the days of the dollar man, whatever,
go ahead, go ahead, whatever, America dollar again, McDonald's political
affiliation except for let's make.
Speaker 5 (01:04:47):
It all McDonald's a little bit of affiliation.
Speaker 1 (01:04:50):
That's fine, that's fine. You tried it, tried it on.
Speaker 3 (01:04:58):
Speaking of dollar menu, Speaking of dollar menu, Sorry, Dylan,
who's the cheapest running back you can help? Oh, Thomas,
Yeah I did, I did.
Speaker 1 (01:05:11):
Sorry.
Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
So a couple of guys that are really like low
on the totem pole that have upside. Now I'm not
saying I want any of these guys necessarily, I'm like
trying to get acquiring these guys.
Speaker 1 (01:05:25):
But if you have a chance, like I think Gus
Edwards has a chance to fall in the twelve.
Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
Touchdowns, uh, and the other one is Kamandi Vidal the
same team, Like, you want to take a chance on
these charges because Greg Rome is going to run the ball.
So if you could take a fly on into these chargers,
I would prefer those.
Speaker 1 (01:05:42):
Two over JK. Dobbins.
Speaker 4 (01:05:44):
But if you're looking for value, I mean it's cheap,
you could put throw them in your lineup.
Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
Hopefully they'll like.
Speaker 4 (01:05:51):
Get you twenty touches for sixty yards in a touchdown,
but you know they're going to run the ball and
you know they're gonna get carried.
Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
So yeah, to go with that value, I like it.
Speaker 2 (01:06:01):
Dylan, Devin Singletary, the dudes at RB forty, RB forty,
he got a little bit of a bag low key.
It wasn't anything crazy, but for a running back, it
was some nice cash money. He's the only running back there. Like,
I understand, they've got uh, I can't even think of
who they just drive. They've got Eric Ray that's still there,
and then they've got Tyrone Tracy like those guys we've seen. Look,
(01:06:26):
Devin Singletary is a nice little back. We saw what
he did in Houston last year. It wasn't anything spectacular,
but I think he's gonna get the ball and they're
gonna find ways to get him the ball consistently. So
I I like RB forty prices. Are you kidding me?
You're telling me he's like an RB three or four.
That's crazy. So I'll take I'll take Devin Singletary. What's up, bro?
Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
I like the price. I like the price. But getting
back to the dollar menu analogy, that's like the apple
pie of the dollar menu. It's like, that's that's my definition.
Like why is it like that's the worst item on
the dollar menu. It's a mediocre back on a terrible offense.
You know, I need to get dable more credit. Daniel
Jose is injured. I don't hate it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
You're looking at the tar, you're looking at the offense
last year. Of course you've got freaking homie that was
living with his parents at the quarterback. And then you've
got Saquon Barkley doing every like it was just a
hodgepodge of an office.
Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
That's start.
Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
We have got it more personal.
Speaker 1 (01:07:16):
Thirty two teamster. He is playing with the coach. I
totally I respect that right there. That's good. That's thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:07:27):
You know it's it's I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
Okay, watched his past, his bad time. He's usually asleep
by hand.
Speaker 3 (01:07:34):
Uh first, that's when I'm up, because that's what I am.
That's my witching hour. As we say on the Diocety Exchange,
make McDonald's dollar again our new slogan.
Speaker 5 (01:07:48):
If there's one mission we can accomp which has helped
you get your championship, our secondary objective is not a
combat inflation ship and bring McDonald's back. Thank you for
listening to another episode of this weirdness. We will be
back next week. Peace based.
Speaker 4 (01:08:09):
