Speaker 1 (00:01):
More Than a Movie is back with season two of
the award winning film podcast. Season one focused on one movie,
American Me, but in season two, we're diving into several
movies that made a less deadly impact on Latino cinema.
I'm your host, Alex Fumero, and each week I'm going
to talk to the people behind some of my favorite movies.

(00:23):
From The Godfather Andy Garcia.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
In the early eighties, when I was loading trucks, there
was a rumor that they were going to do Godfather three,
and I remember saying to myself, that's my part.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
To the o G spy kid Alexa Penevega, you.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Had Carlo Gacino, who's the coolest mom ever. You had
Antonio who's handsome, amazing, charismatic, and then Carbon and Juny.
I felt like a lot of other kids felt like
this could.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Be me to the legend behind La Bamba, Blue Diamond Phillips.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
There are very few opportunities in life where you go,
this is the big one. I read that and I went,
this is the big one.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
We sat down with pioneers like Luis Valdez, who paved
the way with projects like Zutsuit.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
I decided that in some ways. My destiny was in
my head because I had been creative all along, since
I was a kid. So years later I went to
Sasa Chavis Jusisi and I pitched him the idea of
a theater up buy and four farm workers.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
We spoke with the Academy Award winner behind your New
Favorite Spider Man, Phil Lord.

Speaker 5 (01:26):
Amy Pascal came to us and said, do you want
to make an animated Spider Man movie? And we said
no way, hung up, and then I called her back.
I was like, whatever, it's Miles Morause like, I love it.
We'll say tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
An indie filmmaker Natalie Morales, who made two movies in
one pandemic year.

Speaker 6 (01:45):
I mean, when you watch Language Lessons, you'll know why
we were able to do it in four afternoons. But yeah,
I was alone in my house, you know, making it.
So then while I was editing Language Lessons, plan p
came back and I was like, really, how how are
gonna what?

Speaker 1 (01:58):
How how are we going.

Speaker 6 (01:59):
To do that? That doesn't make it sense. We'd like
the first production coming back.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
It's the biggest actors, directors, writers and producers behind your
favorite films. In each and every episode highlighting the most
important moments in Latino movie history. So if you like
murder in Movies, listen to season two, but if you
like murder and movies, go back and listen to season one.
