The gang goes around the table and shares their family, holiday traditions. Sam's 'Hide the Pickle' game is by far one of the most unique ones we've heard.

This is the after the show podcast, something after we
do just to visit a little bit longer and hang
out a little bit longer. You know, we've been doing
these hearing from you all week on your special Christmas
traditions that you look forward to with your family every year,
and you know you end up having more than one
or two in your family, and we haven't gone around

the table to do ours yet, so I thought we
could do that now, and we have so many.

Well, Jody and I have obviously something that we've created
in our own.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Family, right like you decorating the front yard, yeah, sideyard.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, I guess our tradition is that, you know, even
though Taylor and Phoebe are no. Sixteen and twelve, we
still do the pick out the Christmas order the new
outside ornament every year. I don't think everyone want to
stop that, you know, whenever we get to the place,
not that I'm rushing anything where grandkids come along, you know,
I mean I would love to keep that tradition going.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Right, I would like that too.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
And you can fill up the yard too.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Okay, okay.

Another thing I realize ours is a lot of food involved,
food and family the night whenever it ends up being
this year.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
It'll be the Friday night before Christmas.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
My cousins will come and both sisters and their families
are staying with us this year, so we have more
people in the house this year. Going to get all
the towels ready, Murph, plenty of towels and everybody toilet
paper and all that. Yeah, you just load up on
all that. But the night that they arrive, they usually
arrive whatever traffic allows in the evening five or six pm,

because they drive all day. I have dinner cooked, and
I usually do something that they want that they love
that I cook. You know, they always say, don't cook
if you don't want to. If you don't you know,
if you sandwiches are fine, right.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
You know, when Jeddy was cooking one year, I brought
home some scallops that I wanted to see her for myself.
I can't do that anymore. They were awesome. I enjoyed
the taste, but the house smelled like fish. And then
so when everybody showed up, Oh come, Jeddy wasn't so.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Happy outside one of those outside you girls, I didn't
think about that.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
I could still do that.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Thanks Sam. Anyway, the holidays gallop, Yeah, and another little
foody foody thing.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
And we have a lot of special traditions, but another
foodie thing that's silly and dumb. But I realized it
this morning when I opened the hall closet. I was
looking for something too.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
It's not a no.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
I already have the big containers of whole cashoes that
I buy every year. I give one to my mom
and one to my brother every year.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Do you really want to say that they may know that, they.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Know they're getting that, and they're not listening.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
To you store those in the hall closet.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Well, whatever the gift.

Cause them to be eaten by anybody.

I can't put them in the pantry.

Okay, they haven't been in there for like two years.

I just bought them this past weekend. They were on sale,
and I always buy them. My mom and brother love cashoes.
I used to give like one and they would just

It's a lot of Casheses ain't cheap either, they're not.
And you bought the whole ones, the whole one.

I didn't know you loved them too, Sam you already
got you taken care of that for Christmas.

You know what, one of my traditions was bef long
before I met Jody, before I married, in any of
that kind of stuff. And all right, yeah, I don't
know why this was a tradition of mine, but it was.
I enjoyed going shopping on Christmas Eve.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Oh that's rights, whatever we're you do.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
For anybody in my family, because it wasn't always as crowded,
you know. I mean, and I don't know it was
because it was fest It's like, wow, tomorrow's Christmas. The
only problem is the pressure, Oh my god, if you
don't find something. It was kind of it could be
last minute, so it wasn't a procrastination thing. I enjoyed
being in the stores on Christmas Eve, Rightan.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
That's kind of cool. But our Christmas Eve get together
with our family kind of.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Well, I know, obviously I've changed that since we were married.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
And there's a lot of good things available at all
the pharmacies.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Okay, all right, that's right.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
I did it a few of those. It's as seen
on TV.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
You have a lot, you know.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
After sam Thanksgiving, after we had the non traditional meal,
I'm thinking we might carry that one over to the Christmas.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
That's cool.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
That was me and there was no cleanup or you know,
chicken fingers, signing dishes to everybody and all that stuff.
We just some people brought desserts, so we had to
do that. But other than that, it's like the meals here,
come eat that's fun and paper plates and.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Everything's taking easier for you too.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
And the I guess the holiday tradition we've had for
a while is the Christmas pickle.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Oh, ever since I've known you, you've been hiding the
Christmas pickle.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
Yeah, it's a glass ornament that well, it got broken
by an X. But anyway, we have a new question.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
When did it get broken by an X after the factor?
Speaker 4 (04:32):
No, it was it was during the decoration, Yeah, gotcha,
it wasn't after the divorce. You have all the ornaments
that got dropped. The pickle was the only one that
got dropped that year, so we had to get a
replacement pickle. It's not glass, and you know, since that
relationship no longer existed, I didn't want the replacement pickle.
I went and got my own replacement pickle.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
You know.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
It was so the Christmas pickle is you hide, whoever
finds it gets to open the special family.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
Yeah, it always winds up seeming to be Parker too,
And it's not a gift that only Parker can have,
it's it's a family. Yeah, but that's the person who
gets to open it for everybody.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Well, he's a good pickle finder.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
And you know what, in real life, Sam doesn't like
pickles as sorry as eating them, you won't eat. It's
interesting to me that you would hide the Christmas pickle,
you know, as part of the tradition. I mean, I
know it's the tradition. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Actually, Jodie, I don't relish pickles.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
I mean, we all have so many fun ones to
talk about. David producer, David, what's one of your favorite
family traditions?
Speaker 5 (05:23):
Oh, you know, we didn't get to play this year
at Thanksgiving because he wasn't there.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
But it's time to bring back keep away from Uncle
Doug likes to do so well, he'll be at Christmas.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
He will be there. Yes, he's going to be there
and hopefully where Yeah, not so way.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
What's the problem with Uncle Doug Again.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
He's seen doesn't quite have a filter and he'll say
things that really just gets under your skin and you
try to be you every time. You'll start and you're like,
all right, you know, water under the bridge to start fresh,
and then he'll just say something like one time, I
think that was the last time I saw him. We
were sitting there talking about something when I like used
to pull vault in high school or something, and he
was like, yeah, I forgot exactly what he said. He
(06:03):
was like, not everyone peaks in high school, It's okay,
And I'm like, oh, byhanded comment, and then he just
kind of just walked away, and I was like, okay,
then that's the last time talking to you for this evening.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
It was like, what does that mean peak in high school? Man?
You guys all ought to just ignore him.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
I think every family has or had one of those,
you know what I mean. We had a couple of
family members that literally would drink till they couldn't speak
on Christmas evening, you know, and just had Unfortunately that
was me, but they weren't driving anywhere, but yeah, I
mean that would be kind of and you know what,
that's the moment that the arguments break out too, you
know what I'm saying. I remember some of those as
a kid, So we didn't have those wells good, it's
(06:41):
good you didn't have that.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Eye not saying there wasn't alcoholism in my family when
I was growing up. It was just not talked about.
It was, you know, it was my grand my dad's
funny again, there was my grand not away or bottle.
I was too young to realize that she was, you know, ooxicated,
and I just thought she was hysterical and funny and unpredictable.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Nobody else will talk about it.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to take us down that path.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Now, that's fine.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Anyway, what's relative on your last got drawn? Keep your

Though, I think my favorite traditions are all kind of
built around what really is a thing you know today
is Christmas music and everything else. Because at my parents' house,
whenever the tree came out, it was the Beach Boys
Christmas album and the Elvis Presley Christmas album that came out,
and that signaled the start of Christmas for us.

We're going to get there next week.

We're going to talk favorite Christmas album and favorite song,
all of that stuff. There's so much stuff to just
really enjoy at the time of the year,
