Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy. Sam and Jody after the show podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I'm really surprised, Sam, I want to hear a little
bit more about Hollis's Star Wars birthday party. Greenshun, really
surprised that you did not show up in some sort
of costume, some sort of mask, some sort of lightsaber. You,
of all people, this is your opportunity to rock that stuff.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
I don't understand.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
I'll explain it to you because the thought did occur
to me because I got I have a storm Trooper
helmet and a lightsaber and that Chewbacca mask.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Oh man, you could have just been an amalgamation of.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
But this characters.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
This was not my party. Still, this was a six
year old's party. He didn't need Pops taken away walking
in with a Stormtrooper helmet on.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Would it have taken away though? Or would it have
made you the coolest Pops ever?

Speaker 3 (00:56):
That's what I wonder, you know, maybe in private at
the house. Okay, I'll do that, because I was the
next time you show up, I was really thinking about
just giving him the helmet and the lightsaber.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
As the gift.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Well, no, just as a little extra gift because I
had got him his gifts already. I just but then
I thought, okay, if you bring this to the party
even and whip this out and it's like it's the gift.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Very that's very thoughtful of you. However, he's six. I
don't think he's gonna be like, well, it's still in
my thunder. I don't think he would think that.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
He'd be like, cool, look at my pops.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
He's cooler than your pops.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yeah, I know, but I didn't want parents or relatives.
It's like, this is Hollis's party, all right, leave it
to Hollis. He had his Star Wars shirt on, and yeah,
I gave him another shirt.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
And funny that you said that, because I wanted to
tell you the story that I do know about Snoop
Snoop Dog, who is also a grandfather. Yeah, and when
he gets invited to the grandchild his grandchildren's birthday parties.
You know this story. Now, he shows up in caricature

(02:03):
character character costumes so that it doesn't become about Snoop.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Oh. He does that because he can.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Bring it fun to the party.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Yeah, okay, be.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
In disguise, and at the end of the party, when
people are leaving, then he takes his the hat off
or whatever, and his grandchildren know, oh, it was him
all along. So maybe he could do something like that
in the future. You know.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
The thing about it is, you know, everything that you
do now is part of what makes you cool, Pops.
Not that you're trying to be cool pops all the time,
you know what I'm saying. But those are like about memories.
He's right, exactly, And so I mean, you're only going
to get so many years to do that before he's
too old. But because if he's twenty and you show
up like that at the party.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
It's weird.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
To my grandpa. Ignore him.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Now is the time, right exactly.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
I did do one of his favorites though, because lately
Hollis has been obsessed with this the loser.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Okay, I guess that he throws up. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
But there was a basketball game, his little basket bitty
ball a couple of weeks ago. You know, the benches
on the other side from where all the parents sit
and the grandparents, and we're watching the game just every
now and then you look over and see what he's doing.
And he saw me eye contact, he goes, he looks
at me, he goes, he did the thing.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Yeah funny.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
And I'm looking around like, oh, he's looking at me. Yeah,
So I got him out. I got him after the party. Okay, Oh, Hollis,
I forgot to give you one more thing. And I
stuck my hand in my pocket and I pulled it
out and he was.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Like, that's awesome. See that's cool Pops right there.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
That is cool Pops. Look, no pressure, but I would
expect you, of all people, to be a cool pops.
A funny pops. Always show up with something. You always
make all of us laugh. It's not a party without you.
You are that person. Maybe not every day. I know
you have your eyornis too, but for your grandchild. That's

(04:05):
why I was so said.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
I couldn't wait.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Actually today, when you were gonna tell us about the party,
I could not wait to hear about what shenanigans you brought.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
No, I just left it. It's Hollis's party, so I
let it go. And also there was part of me,
and that's like, you know, if you bring the helmet
and the and the lightsaber, then all the kids are
going on to play it, and there there's a chance
the lightsaber might get broken. Oh it's all downhill. And
the rest of the weekend is shot.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
It's too bad you don't have your Star Wars T
shirt anymore, because that would have been funny. A Star
Wars T shirt one size too small walking into the
party with that would have been funny.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Was it one size too small?

Speaker 1 (04:40):
No, No, it wasn't. I'm just saying that would be funny.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
He wants the Will Ferrell tree that Star Wars T shirt.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
I remember it.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
It was black, and you don't wear black at all,
like black T shirts. That's one reason. In fact, I
even went around over the weekend to look for another
one nice and all I could find was black ones.
Because I was like, maybe I'll wear another T shirt,
But no, I couldn't find a Star Wars.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
It wasn't black.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Can't believe it, can't believe it? Yeah, okay, well tell
us about the rest of it. Was there a Star
Wars cake?

Speaker 3 (05:09):
No, there was actually a cupcakes, And because he's into
the dark side right now, he had black cupcakes and
red cupcakes.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Oh so fun.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Each one had a little tiny lightsaber on it too,
like a lightsaber toothpick.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Well, that's cute, that is cool.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
I guess you know. I'm that's something that you forget
about when your kids aren't little anymore, about the themed
birthday party and all the things you can do with
the theme. Especially to me though, a Star Wars party
is equally enjoyed by kids and adults.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
And he had black balloons that Star Wars on one side,
and then like Darth Vader or somebody else on the
other side, and he had some other balloons blown up
like baby Yoda. There was a kid argument going on too,
what you know. He's like, no, it's Grogu and one
of the other kids are saying, no, it's baby Yoda. No,
his name is Grogu and it and it's like, hey,
you're right, I got the right party here.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Did you intervene?

Speaker 3 (06:01):
No, no, we just watched them. The couple of the
parents were messing with them too, calling them lights savers,
knowing knowing that they were doing it wrong. So you know,
I had to walk up and say no, it's called
a night saber, and that said all the kids.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
So you did bring a little Sam, a little bit
of Sam to the party.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Very cool, well happy.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
We can't believe it's sixth birthday.
