Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy, Sam and Jody After the Show podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
I know we mentioned in Three Things to Know Today
that today was the day that Savannah Guthrie returned to
the Today Show and just that it was happening today,
But oh my goodness, we have to talk about this.
We're all we all are in situations not like hers exactly,
but where you have to get back on the horse,
you have to get back into life, you have to

(00:25):
get back to work when you're really not emotionally ready. Right,
we've all been there.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Well, especially when this is when you thought anybody would
have thought, Okay, they'll find her mom and then she'll
return back to the Today Show. But that's not how
it's worked.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
No, And so when the first shot came up and
she's sitting there at the desk and they get right
to it, she handles it beautifully.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Good morning, welcome to Today on this Monday morning. We
are so glad you started your week with us, and
it is good.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
To be home. Yes, it is good to have you
back at home. Well, here we go, ready or not?

Speaker 2 (01:00):
The news?

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Yes, she did not make it about it.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
It wasn't about her mom's disappearance, as some might have
thought she had already done that interview a couple of
weeks ago with Hoda and so you know about here's
my story, but I am coming back because this is
what I do, This is what my mom would want
me to do. And so they she wasn't the headline.
I thought that was very that had a lot of integrity.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Well, yeah, that's professionals what that is. That shows you
what her professional integrity is. Like.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
I mean, if you had a loved one who was
taken in the middle of the night and there were
no more leads and it was two months ago, it
would be hard to have done with.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
It would be very difficult to focus.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
She went right into her job and into the news.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
The other part of it is that she you know
what they do on the Today Show is they walk
out on the plaza at some point and.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
They do for right.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
And so when that happened later on, I think that
was a couple of hours later. You know a lot
of people were there just because they knew it was
her first day back.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
So she got a lot of ovations walking out.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
And these signs are so beautiful. You guys have been
so beautiful. I received so many letters, so much kindness
to me and my whole family, and we feel it
and we feel your prayers.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
So thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
It was the only time she really showed emotion. The
rest of the time, she just did her work and
did her job. And you know, it's like we work in,
you know, media, We work in where you show up
and you do what you do, no matter what is
going on in your life for you. But man, that
had to be a hard day for her.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, I can't imagine that.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
No, But also she probably needs that. That's what I
kept thinking. You need your own routine. And there's still
no solid leads about where her mother is.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
I mean, month into this is something that is more
of a sense of normalcy for her, which is that, Yeah,
it probably was very comforting for her to be back.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
It's only been two months, maybe it feel like longer.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
It's it really only been two months.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
It's been two months longer.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Wow, it does feel like it's been a lot longer
than that.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
I know, because to me, I kind of felt like
we would know something sooner. I felt like we would
know something in days, didn't you.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Yeah, I mean you consider that you know, forensics and
surveillance video and all of the things that we've got
at our disposal today that there would be more answers. Especially,
I mean when they said that the you know, the
ring doorbell video was there. Yeah, to me, I was thinking, Okay,
this is just a matter of I know days.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Maybe it makes you wonder, you know, when when we're
going to learn something, if we're ever going to really
learn something.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Did they ever find anything when they went through the
house or are they not saying if they found stuff.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
From what I understand, whatever they found has not led
them anywhere. Yeah, solid, and they haven't. I don't think
they've shared much of it, I honestly. To be honest,
I haven't followed it as closely. I followed it closely
in the first few days when I thought, certainly, this
woman's going to turn up something.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
It's easy to follow when it's viral and every single
media outlet is covering it. But once it goes on
like this, it's not that it's not being followed anymore. Yeah,
you just don't see it surfacing as much. I mean,
I hope that they find some breakthrough. It's hard to
wrap your brain around it being a mystery for this long,
But the.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Truth about a missing person. You know, we know this.
It's for any missing person of any age. Is that
the more time that passes, the harder it is to
find them.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
The more time. That's why the first forty eight hours
is so crucial. Yeah, because that's.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
When I guess they Betrail is hot or whatever. Such
a crazy story. I'll tell you something else.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Though.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
When I knew she was going to be like in
the middle of us doing our show today, you know,
after we did that quick story, it's like, oh, she's
on it. I went and watched and I was like,
look at her, and she's in this gorgeous yellow dress
with like flowers on it.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
I thought, well, that's.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Beautiful and perfect for spring. Yeah, it's the yellow. It's
like tie the yellow ribbon. She wore the yellow for
a season, you know, or symbolic. It's symbolic. I think
she'll continue to wear a little bit of yellow. I'll
be curious to see. But anyway, I just.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
I mad respect. You got to get back on the horse,
you got to get back to work. And I bet
she wasn't even thinking that far ahead in the first
few weeks of looking for her mother.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Well, like you, she probably thought we'll find something out
in a few days and yeah, this will all wrap up.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
So anyway, I just wanted to share that she's back today.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
Not easy to do something like that, missed any part
of the show.

Kingdom of Fraud

Kingdom of Fraud

It’s the unlikeliest of criminal partnerships: a devout polygamist from an insular Utah sect joining forces with a shadowy Armenian tycoon from LA. The result - a billion dollar fraud conspiracy. In Kingdom of Fraud, investigative reporter Michele McPhee traces the origins of the extraordinary alliance between Jacob Kingston and Levon Termendzhyan. Together, the two men trigger the largest tax investigation in American history and weave around themselves a web of dirty cops, influential political relationships and transnational money laundering. All this is set against the backdrop of Jacob Kingston’s clan – The Order. A powerful and secretive polygamist organization in Salt Lake City. To whom Jacob is desperate to prove his worth.
