Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy Sam and Jody After the Show
podcast special guest today Jake Steinfeld, and you know him.
It's Body by Jake Jake for something new he's bringing us.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
What an honor? Hi Jake? How are you? Murphy, Sam
and Jody? How you doing?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
We're How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Jake Steinfeld? I've been listening to Body by Jake on
iHeartRadio already.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Oh I love it. What do you think?

Speaker 1 (00:25):
I love it because I don't have to think about it.
You've already done it all for me. I walk every evening.
I do yoga a lot, but I walk every evening
and I don't have to think do I want Ariana
Grande today? Do I want bon Jovie today? And so
you put all this great it's motivation. Yeah, but also

(00:46):
I already heard from you.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Don't quit.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
That's it, That's exactly right. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Oh, thank you you guys. You know I'm having so
much fun. This is day three of Buddy by Jake Radio. So,
I mean we were just born, and you know, I've
been doing what I've been doing for so long. And
you know I was the first guy to do personal
fitness training. Before that, I was an overweight kid. I
had a bed started growing up. My dad bought me

(01:12):
a set of weights at thirteen years old, and it
changed my life. Not only did the weights build my body,
but it built my confidence and self esteem.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Right.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
As we know, this month is mental health month, right,
And I always talk about the most underutilized antidepressant.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Is Exerciseise for sure.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
If you're mad, if you're said, if you're angry, if
you're stressed, take a walk, just move your body something
something simple.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
It's so true, moving right, right.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Right, something that we don't and we can.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
You and I could talk forever about this because something
that we don't hear enough about that you get from
exercise is self respect.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Just by doing what you said you're going to do.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
But it's a self respect for yourself, right, It's the confidence.
And you know, when you have comfort, you and you
have self esteem.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
You know.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
I've been putting fitness centers that I've been chaired the
National Foundation for Governorce Fitness Counsels for the last fourteen years,
and I put fitness centers in elementary and middle schools
around the country and these last ten years. I mean,
when we were growing up, we never talked about mental health, right,
and today. It's the number one topic about you know,

(02:23):
confidence and self esteem. You feel good about yourself. It's
amazing how other people perceive you. Absolutely, but you've got
to look in that mirror and love who you are,
bottom line. And that's what I wanted to create when

(02:43):
we when I came up with this idea for Body
by Jake Radio. I mean, I've done some crazy things
in my career, some have been successful, some not successful.
But as an entrepreneur, I'm very blessed to have a
great wife, Tracy. We've been married almost thirty eight years
now and we have four right kids. My daughter Morgan
and lives in London, who's visiting us here. I'm actually
in New York now, which is awesome. Back in the

(03:04):
old stopping ground. Man, it's great. And I got two
boys who live in New York, Nick and Zach, and
my youngest guy, Luki is in la But you know,
as an entrepreneur, having someone like my wife, who's been
shoulder to shoulder with me for almost thirty nine years,
you know, she has been right there and every crazy

(03:26):
idea you know, wind lose a jaw. She would say,
if you believe I'm in with you and a year
and a half ago, we had a devastation, you know,
we lost our home in.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
The Palisades fire. Sorry to hear, you know, it was
one of those things.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
And the October before I had lost my mom, so
you know, it was one of those, you know, periods
of time where you have two choices. You could roll
up in a ball and die right or sit in
a black room and just fret, or you get up
and you persevere. And that's what we and that's what

(04:00):
we did. We got up and we get up and
we perseverea And we live in Century City, California now,
which you know, our home is in Pacific Palaces.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
We're rebuilding.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
We just put the foundation in, which is super exciting
to see things going up as opposed to having that
incredibly terrible memory of everything melted.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
And it feels great.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
And I'm in the car a lot, and when you
live in Los Angeles, you're always in a car, but
now even more so, I'm trying to find, you know,
a place where there's just quiet on the radio, where
I just felt like, I love my seventies, late seventies,
eighties and nineties music and I just wanted relaxed and

(04:45):
there was nothing that I found that had it, and
I said, oh my gosh, man. I created a television
network called FITTV nineteen ninety three that was based on
the old headline news wheel. Ted Turner, I, who just
passed away, was my mentor, was a guy. He put
me on television the first time. In nineteen eighty one,

(05:06):
I did the Fitness Break.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Okay, the first Fitness break.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Okay, Wow, that's it. That's it.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Where it went something like this, Hey, gang, I'm Jacobody
by Jake, and here's your fitness tip of the day today.
We're going to work the old but Tsimo, you know.
Here's Brenda and Jody and we're gonna show you how
we do it. And we're gonna do the Body by
Jake lunch. And we're on the beach, you know, in Malibu,
and I said, it's gorgeous outside seven, eight, nine and ten.

(05:33):
Remember stick to the fight when your hardest hit. It's
when things seem worse that you must not quit.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Don't quit. Have a great day, see you tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
And that's how they went, and think about it, there
were those little nuggets of information that was in nineteen
eighty one, I did from eighty one to eighty three,
and then created fit TV in ninety two. I did
my Body by Jake show in first run in ESPN
for many years, and I looked at what Ted did
with the headline news. I said, I can do that

(06:01):
with a fitness network. Right now here, I am just
a year ago. Okay, I'm driving around and look, I'm
not going to say it was easy. Right the first
few months I was in a haze. You know, after
you lose a home like that, and you know, you
got to look in the mirror and you got to
have that conversation with yourself of what are you really
made of? Right?

Speaker 2 (06:21):
You know?

Speaker 4 (06:22):
And it hit me. I said, I'm going to create
Body by Jake Radio, just like I did Fit TV,
but the audio version where it's really uplifting music, where
I want to wake you up in the morning. I
want it really personal. I want to be able to
talk to you. Right So, whether I'm talking to Murpher,

(06:43):
I'm talking to Sam, or I'm talking to you Jurney,
you know, it's it's personal. And whether you're on a walk,
you walking the dog, you're on the train, you're in
your car, it's we have nuggets of information all throughout
the hour, right, So it's a mental health tip, a
wellness tip, it's a motivational tip, and it's it's it's

(07:03):
really simple, not over complicated. And as I said, we're
going to wake you up in the morning and put
you to bed at night. And our tagline is where
it's seventy two and sunny every.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Day, so much clever.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
And the playlist is on point.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
And like I said, I don't it's nice that it's
one less thing I have to do.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
I don't have to make this playlist. It's just a
gift every day. Yeah, it's a great idea.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
It's such an immersive experience, Jake, and I think that's
really what truly does make it unique and different. And
Jody and I are married too, and so I completely
subscribe to the She's she's the best litmus test for everything.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
And but she immediately does him because she does me. Tracy, Joe,
You're gonna be Tracy excellent.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
We have a lot to talk about it, I'm sure.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
But but we are so excited to, you know, to
be a part of this launch here at iHeartMedia and.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
And we're truly appreciative.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
Jake, you know of your time to just to be
able to meet you and you know in person struck.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Yes, I have a question, you know, sure, go ahead, Joey.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
I want to know before we have to let you go.
I mean, I'm sure. I know it changes over over
our all of our lifetimes. There are times when we're
exercising like crazy and we're addicted to this or that,
and then it changes. What are you What is your
routine like today? I know you're doing it, and that's.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
A great question, because my routine today is the same routine.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
I'm not kidding you. I am. If listen, if.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
You wanted to pick me off for whatever, for whatever
the reason might be, you would go this is too easy.
This guy does exactly every single day. I'm one of
these kind of guys. I'm very every everything has to
be a certain way. And I do a forty two
minute workout, not forty four, not forty one. It's a
forty two minute work okay, and we can get into

(08:50):
the craziness, but but that's that's what I do. I'm
in the gym at four fifteen in the morning, and
no matter where I am in the world, so I'm
here in New York it's one fifteen in LA, but
it's four fifteen in New York. And I'm in the
gym and I do a forty two minute workout. I
do my stretching, a little ad work, my cardio or

(09:13):
my muscular workout. I combine, so I do like today
is well is Wednesday. So I kind of work the
whole body, and I do one set of body part
of three hundred reps.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
And it's literally one set of three hundred.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
And you want to talk about getting rid of lactic acid,
you want to talk about your body just really feeling it.
And what I do is I go into and get
to another place, just like when I think about when
I'm speaking to you at Body by Jake Radio, I

(09:51):
want you to go to that place where you stop
counting the reps. And what I start to do is
I think about what I have to do during the
day and what I want to accomplish during the day.
So not only am I getting my cardio and my
muscular workout, I'm getting a mental workout too. So by
the time the forty two minutes are up, I've worked

(10:12):
my body, I've dealt with my day. I kind of
visualized what it is I want to accomplish during the day,
and I'm ready to go, and I'm ahead of the
game because it's only four poin fifty in the morning
or four forty eight.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
Jake, you are better than expected. This has been a pleasure.

Speaker 6 (10:33):
Can one question before we go? Guys? You know Jake
was the voice of Like the Muscle Rat in Ratitude. Right,
I'm sorry, it's one of my favorite movies. What was
that like voice in a Rat?

Speaker 4 (10:45):
Well, let me just say this first of all, Bradbird,
the director, was I was so great. I have always
done look as a kid, even though I had a stutter.
I would make phony phone calls all day long, right,
and my friends and I could put on voices. So
I remember when they asked me to.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Do this role.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
I said to Brad, I could do all kinds of hell.
He goes, Jake, just do Jake right and and and
I improvised. There was one line where it was fluffy Bunny.
That's awesome, Fluffy Bunny like that, and and he loved it.
And he said, you know what, we don't usually do

(11:23):
anything off script, but we're gonna use that man that's
be in that movie with those guys. And uh, I've
always loved doing voiceover work. It's fantastic and being able
to sit here with you guys and and talk about
my new venture. And I appreciate the support that you
even checked that out. It means the world to me.
And uh and just for everybody's sake, who's at home,
who listens to you guys all the time.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
I know they have the iHeart app, but it's free.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
All you have to do with search body by Jake
Radio and do a little pre set on it and uh, hey,
just keep it with you.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
It's at the top right now, Like, yeah, you're at
the top right now.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
Yeah, you're awesome, Joe, you are awesome.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Thank you, don't quit well.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
Thank you so much for sharing the positivity with us. Jake,
we appreciate it was a pleasure to meet you.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Thanks.

Bleep! with Ana Navarro

Fear thrives in silence and confusion. Ana Navarro rejects both. Her voice is an antidote to today’s chaos. Her new podcast, Bleep! with Ana Navarro, takes on today’s most pressing issues with the voices most connected to it: decision-makers, political leaders, cultural shapers, and people on the frontlines of the story. The conversations acknowledge the emotions we all feel—despair, sadness, fear— but emerge with knowledge, perspective, and hope. The belief is simple: fearless dialogue can transform fear into courage, and courage into change. When fear dominates the headlines, this show digs deeper. Because information, debate, and conversation don’t just ease fear, they give us power to shape the future.
