Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to the Murphy, Sam & Jody After the Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Murphy, you know.
Speaker 3 (00:05):
How we pick on you about your, you get hung
up at the drive-thru when you order?
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Yeah, and it's a real thing. I mean, I show
up at the drive-thru. If I haven't thought about what
I want in advance or whatever, yeah, the board throws
me off.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Is that like if you see something new that makes
you go, ooh, I bet that would taste good?
Speaker 1 (00:26):
It could be that, but I think also if I
don't know, then.
I'm it's too much in my face at one time.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
It's too much in his face. It's too much pressure.
And don't even let him be the one to order.
If there's four people in the car and everybody's like
saying their order to him, he can't. It's so funny
to me because I think I had that moment yesterday.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Oh, did you really? You've never had this before happen
to you?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Not at the drive-thru.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Oh no.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
I'm a master at the drive-thru. You can tell me
if we have six people in the car and I
get everybody's order. I have zero problem at the drive-thru.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Oh, yeah, you're incredible.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Because I can see it. I see what Taylor ordered.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
I'm visual. I'm a visual person. So I see what
you ordered. I know she had a sandwich with no pickle.
And I just order, like Murphy, and I order. Taylor,
you know, I just do that.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
That's easy. The drive-thru's easy.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
But so yesterday, kind of worked a long day, and
then I had an appointment, a medical appointment for my
injections for my bones. And I rolled in there and
I was hungry. I had no lunch. And I was
a little early. I was about to go get blood drawn.
And I was a little early and they have a
(01:36):
cafe inside in this medical, you know, most medical complexes,
you know, they have a little cafeteria and they've got
grab and go food and all this. But on this
particular day, they had a food truck out front.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
What kind?
Speaker 3 (01:52):
It was just like general stuff. Like, you know what
I mean? It wasn't a taco truck or burgers. It
was like salads and sandwiches and all kinds of stuff.
And I saw on the sign that they leave at
two and it was 150, 145, 150. And so, you
know what? I'm like, I'm going to hit the food
truck because.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
It's going to be fun.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
It's going to be better, you know, more choices. And
I don't know, I get to watch them work. Instead
of the– I've had the grab-and-go food before, which is fine.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
It's good. But anyway, food truck.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
And so I walk up. There are people behind me
in line, and there is so much on the menu.
Too much on the menu. Really?
Speaker 2 (02:31):
And– Yes.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
I would think that if I was in a food truck,
I would have just a few things like they did
on Chef, the movie Chef.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Like even a taco truck, it'll have like four or
five different versions of something. It won't have 50 different things.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
There were 50 different things on the menu and specials.
Like there was a chalkboard with specials for today and
it was overwhelming.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
I also knew I was on the clock. It's like
people were behind me.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
That's the difference makers. When you have people behind you,
there's a self-imposed pressure.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Right. And so I stepped to the counter, still not
even knowing what I wanted. I'd seen a couple of things.
I saw a chicken Caesar wrap. That's my jam. I
almost just bought that. I mean, got that by default.
But of course, I had to be a princess about
it and ask him about their dressing.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Yeah, I think I wouldn't do that at the food truck.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
I heard myself ask.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
Is it homemade?
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I said, is it homemade? And she looks at me like,
excuse me, princess.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah. Jodi asked that in restaurants. But yeah, I think,
you know.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Anyway, she said, no, it's Ken's, which that's a good dressing.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
It is a good dressing.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah. But I just, at that moment, I thought of
you and I thought there's too much information. There's people
behind me. I feel social pressure and pressure to order correctly. Also,
something that I do when ordering, it's not just about
what do I want to eat? What looks the best?
Speaker 2 (03:45):
I'm looking at price and I'm also looking at nutrition.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
So I ordered, you'll be so mad at me.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
I ordered the.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Garden salad with grilled chicken.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
What's wrong with that?
Speaker 2 (03:59):
There's nothing wrong with that. And the raspberry vinaigrette.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
There's nothing wrong with that.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
No.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Where has there ever a rule been written that a
food truck has to be something that's unhealthy and greasy?
Speaker 4 (04:08):
It doesn't.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
It doesn't. The world of food trucks today are so
varied that if you hit the right spots for them—
You're right. Because you're not going to have— if you have
10 taco trucks on the same street.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Well— I thought of you, Murphy, because of me getting
hung up. That never happens to me, but I got
hung up because 50 things. I was busy watching the
magic going on inside of this major kitchen inside of
a truck.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
And then people behind me. But I also thought of you, Sam, because.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
You would have been disappointed in me for ordering the
garden salad with the grilled chicken when they had like
pork nachos and they had all kinds of.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
You know, indulgent stuff too.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
You know, they had a really big variety.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Well, let's set the scene here. You know, you're about
to go in for this shot infusion thing. You're not
going to grab a big greasy bag of something.
Speaker 4 (04:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Eat that before you go sit in the chair.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
What are they going to do? Look at my blood
work and go, hmm. No, I just would think you–
I wouldn't worry about it.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
You need to have a stomach full of nachos and
then sat down for that. You would feel awful.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah, you're right. You're right. And think of the smells.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Well, that's true too.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
I was one of the last orders because they did.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
By the time I was sitting inside eating my salad–
I look over and that truck pulled away.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Is that because you took so long?
Speaker 3 (05:17):
No, they closed down at 2. They were probably there
from 11 to 2.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
So when you say there was too much on the menu,
was this like an all-American kind of a thing? Some
kind of funky, groovy.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
They had a 60s groove vibe thing. I don't remember
the name of the truck.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Like a 60s diner type vibe?
Speaker 2 (05:35):
No, just a theme. It's a regular truck with a menu.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Everything was named funky this and snazzy this and They
just had a ton of stuff to choose from.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
So the complicated names threw you off even more?
Speaker 2 (05:48):
No. It was the amount of stuff. They had mango
pineapple smoothies and things like that, too. So they had
tropical stuff.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Did they have burgers?
Speaker 2 (05:56):
I didn't see burgers.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
I saw sandwiches, wraps, a couple of little side nacho-y things.
And so I was honestly, at the end of it,
push came to shove with the People behind me.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
They were pushing and shoving you?
Speaker 3 (06:12):
As soon as she said, what can I get you?
She said, what can I get you, baby? She's looking
down at me. I didn't want to go, uh, you know?
I didn't want to be that person and go, uh.
So I just said, I'll take the garden salad, you know?
Speaker 2 (06:24):
And it was good. And I'm glad I was hungry.
And I felt good about that choice.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
But you would have been disappointed because there was a
lot to choose from. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
Yeah, I'd have been disappointed, but you and I are
different people.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
I know.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
You know, if it's a food truck, I would go
for the, oh, that looks interesting. I've never heard of
that before.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Give it to me.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
Right.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Anyway, I just thought of you, Murphy, because that does
not happen to me. The order mind scramble ever.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
It's the self-imposed pressure and all that happens to me
if there are cars behind me.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
It also has happened in the car because I do
have trouble keeping track of everybody's orders. And I've also
screwed those orders up. I thought I had them. I
start saying them. Then, you know, comes the no.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
No, Dad.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Jodi will push me back out of the way, lean
over from the passenger side, give her order to the speaker.
It's like, okay, I don't want to deal with this
next time. I want all of you to order your
own food. That's it. Or text me in advance and
I'll read it off.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
We will text him the orders so he can just
read them. Yeah, that's using technology to your advantage.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
I wish I knew what that is in my brain
that does that because even with no pressure, that becomes
too much.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
It's the, let's call it the Starbucks factor.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
The fancy coffee drink factor. No matter what you're ordering,
if somebody can't just order the number one the way
that it comes and it has to be fully customized,
I'm not your driver. I don't need to be the
one sitting in the seat placing the order. If you're
going to change up what the menu says, if you
want the number one but you don't want the ketchup
and you don't want lettuce and you want extra tomatoes,
it's like, okay, you can order that from the back seat.
(08:02):
It's confusing. And when you start multiplying that times, you
know what I'm saying?
Speaker 3 (08:06):
I hate that for you. I don't know why my brain,
I can see it all and order it. And I'm like, okay, great.
But I do go out to dinner with girlfriends a lot.
And I do have some friends who have trouble ordering,
who just cannot decide what to order.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
From the menu or from the drug?
Speaker 2 (08:21):
From the menu. And I just, I don't understand that.
I usually know exactly what to order.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Yeah, I need a minute on that. But yeah, well.
But there are some restaurants, like you and I have
a favorite Mexican restaurant we like to go to.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
It's too much on the menu.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
And there's six pages on it.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
And everything is good.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
It makes you want everything.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
You know, Murphy, that's probably why you like to order
from Sonic. You can do it in the comfort of
your own home, order it online, and then go pick
it up, and it's ready.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Well, or you pull into the bay. Nobody's rushing you
at the bay.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
You know why?
Speaker 3 (08:52):
That's true, too.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Because there's nobody behind you in the bay, right? The
bay is your bay. You press the button when you're ready.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Right.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Precisely.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
That's why you like Sonic so much.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
You're talking about a no-pressure experience. Exactly. And if somebody
wants to break down their number one there, I'm all
good with that. We've got a minute. Because we're going nowhere. Exactly.
I can push the button at any time. That is
so funny.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Yeah. Well, I will tell you, the next time I
go get my injection, which is a month away, I
do it every month at this same medical facility. If
I schedule it before 2, I can hit the food truck.
And I'm going to do better next time.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
I really am. I'm going to pick what looks good
to me.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
I don't care about calories. I don't care about— I want
something delicious.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Just hang back, look at everything, and decide, and then
get in line.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Before getting— okay. Thank you, food dude.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Or does this food truck have a website?
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Oh, maybe so. Maybe so.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Or go to Sonic before.
