Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy, Sam & Jodi Daily Show Podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Really do love it when you reach out and we
read and see every single thing that rolls in, even
if you don't hear us address it.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
So we try to address as much as we can.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
So also from Messenger and a couple of emails from murphysamandjodi.com,
Kim is asking, Ben has asked, Jodi, how's your mom doing?
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Oh, yeah. We've not talked about that in a while.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Right.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
And we get to hang out with her this weekend.
We did.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
I just want to say my mom had a major
surgery in June. And honestly, I know for her, the
summer was a blur. And it wasn't as much of
a blur for me, but it was a long summer.
You know, when she was in the hospital and then
those first few weeks when she was at home, you know,
I would leave work and drive out there and try
(00:46):
to do everything I could for her, you know, as
much as I could. She is recovering really, really well.
She came to the house this weekend and she hung
out and Taylor and Phoebe came over and We had
some laughs and all that. I mean, she's still struggling
a little bit. When you're recovering from a major, major surgery,
it's not just the physical. You know, when I tell
(01:08):
you it was a scary situation, like she didn't even
know if she was going to make it. Before the surgery,
it was that major. So I think she's still emotional.
I think she's still recovering mentally, emotionally from it. but
she did something really cool for us. She was hanging
out at the house with us for a while, and
it was time to bring her home, and I had
(01:30):
picked her up anyway. She didn't want to be driving
in case she was staying late. You want to tell
Sam what she did for us?
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Oh, yeah, she bought us our late birthday dinners. She
just said we were going to go out to eat together,
and she just kind of surprised us last minute. She says, no,
I'm picking this up. It's like, well, that's really sweet.
You don't have to do that, so it turned into
a birthday dinner.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Yeah, I was the one that said, come eat with us,
and then we'll bring you home. And she was like, okay,
I guess. And so at the end, she whipped out
the card. You were in the bathroom. She says, I'm
paying for this because your birthday was in July and
his birthday was in July.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Nice. Very, very sweet.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Jodi told me when I walked back and I knew
that meant, okay, don't argue. Just let her do it.
It's a sweet thing.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
It was really sweet. So thank you.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
So did y'all go to the highest price steaks or what?
Speaker 1 (02:13):
No.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
When we ordered, we didn't know she.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Was going to pay. That was so tricky.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Like I would have ordered less. You know, I had
a cup of soup to start, but it doesn't matter. Anyway,
thank you for asking. She's doing well.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
She has a birthday coming up in October. She won't
let me throw a party for her. She's already asked.
Don't make a big deal. But I am taking her
somewhere on her birthday, just the two of us.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Coming up at 6.50, Jodi has three things to know today.
And next, Sam is the food dude.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Yeah, Arby's is now selling a mocktail to go along
with your meats.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Sam's always up on the new eats. He's the food dude.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Got some Arby's news for you, and it has nothing
to do with the meats.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
What does it have to do with?
Speaker 4 (02:58):
A drink. Sprite has partnered up with Arby's. They're the
only place offering this is the Shirley Temple. Oh, which
is cranberry? Which I know is a mix of a
Sprite and, you know, grenadine.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Oh, is it grenadine?
Speaker 4 (03:10):
They're offering it. They're not mixing it at Arby's. It's
coming that way from Sprite. Oh.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
That's interesting.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
They can add the cherry to it, but you can
also get a Shirley and cream, which is the Shirley
temple with foam on top.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Oh, it's not dirty.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
No.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Not a dirty Shirley.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
That's a whole different story. Also, too, in the frozen
food section at the groceries, the potato cakes are now coming. Oh,
are these? Okay.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Murphy likes those.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Those are. You know what? To me, that was reminding
me of the hash browns from McDonald's. It's that ilk of,
you know.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
It is.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
They're good. They're happy.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Gets you a whole bag now. McAllister's. This month at
McAllister's is not September. It's Spud-tember. National Potato Month. So
they're having deals on potatoes. And they've introduced a new one.
A spicy green chili aioli pork potato. Wow. A lot
of stuff there. If the kids like Minecraft, you need
(04:08):
to swing into Crumble this week because they have a
Minecraft partnership going on. The six cookies this week are
all Minecraft cookies.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Cute.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
The pig, the chicken, the creeper.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
But it's different flavors, like they always offer, right?
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Yeah, and it comes in a cute little Minecraft box.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
I don't even like sweets. I bought a box of
those for my brother once for his birthday. I didn't
know what to get him.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Wow. Because he let us take a little taste of
each cookie.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Designer cookies?
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Yeah. Whenever the key lime comes around, be sure to
grab that.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Never had it.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Oreo.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
I found these on the shelves, too, when I was
doing my grocery shopping. Oreos, you know, the three new flavors.
They're in stores now.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
The banana pudding one?
Speaker 4 (04:48):
I bought the deep fried. And it was good.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Oh, was it really?
Speaker 4 (04:52):
It is good.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
You ate the whole bag.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
I know. I haven't finished the whole bag yet. But
I like... I just cannot buy chicken and waffles in
a cookie. I just.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
No, but banana pudding you could buy.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
It would probably be good, too, but deep fried, definitely good.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
It doesn't taste chemically or anything like that to you?
Speaker 4 (05:06):
No, I don't know if it tastes fried. It just
tastes like a cookie.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
A cookie, you know?
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Okay, so if I see the banana pudding one this week,
I'm buying it and bringing it to work.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Is that okay with everybody?
Speaker 4 (05:16):
It works, yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Okay, thank you, Food Dude.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
You can bring some chicken and waffles if you want to, too.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Coming up next, your Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Trending now, Jodi's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
A reminder that later this month, September 25th, Avengers Endgame
will be running an encore presentation in theaters.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
I finally know what I have to do.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
I know in my heart.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Avengers Endgame, I'm going to remind everybody that people were
leaving the theaters bawling. That's what's interesting to me. Like,
to me, you're leaving a superhero film and you're crying.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Like, when was the last time you cried in a movie? Murphy?
I think we both were emotional at the end of
the Elvis movie.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
We were.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Especially Murphy.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Anyway.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Even at the end of the Michael Jackson movie, to
be honest with you.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Really?
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Yeah, a little bit. In parts, sure.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
For what was coming?
Speaker 2 (06:12):
I don't know. Anyway, so Avengers Endgame, the encore is
happening September 25th ahead of Doomsday, which we get in
theaters in December. And of course, all the theater, the
movie companies and the theater chains are going to have
different popcorn buckets. Regal, they're doing the nano gauntlet popcorn bucket,
like the big red hand.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Nobody knows what it's going to cost yet. It's going
to cost an arm and a leg.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Yeah, right.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
They're not the only ones, though.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
Yeah, I've seen the Iron Man mask where the top
opens up, the helmet where it opens up and it's full.
You can put your popcorn in there.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Also an arm and a leg.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Look for those.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
September 25th, though, by the way, if you want to
cry in the theater again about the superheroes.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Coming up at 6.50, Jodi has three things to note today.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Social media connect.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Join us anytime.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, all the places we read and
see every single thing that rolls in. Jen said, I
want to wear pink on Fridays for the rest of
my life for Dolly.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
That's sweet.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
I was at the hair salon in pink Friday, getting
a little trim, get a little cut. And some man
said something to me about my pink shirt. And I
was like, yeah, I wore pink for Dolly. And he
was like, Oh, Oh, we've got to start doing that.
So it's like, you know, last week, I guess not
everybody knew that that was going to be a thing.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
So, I mean, we could always do it every Friday.
It'd be fun.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Shelly says this on our messenger. As crazy as it sounds,
I'm still shocked that she's passed. What a wonderful human
inside and out. She wasn't just a celebrity. She was
genuine and humble.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
You know, it's true. Our oldest daughter, Taylor, and I
were talking about that yesterday. Same thing that you just,
it still doesn't seem real. I mean, I know that
no one lives forever, but she's not somebody that you
saw exiting anytime soon.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
No, I thought she would live.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
To be 90 or 100. And we knew she was
having some health problems, but we didn't know how very
sick she was. And maybe we'll never know specifics on that.
If she didn't want us to know, I'm fine with that, Ms.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Dolly.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
And speaking of it, you know, my friend Angelia joined
us last week for a little bit of the show
because she... had a standing appointment with Dolly.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Parton for years. She lives in Nashville.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
She lives in Nashville, and she used to go to
the nail salon at the same time, same appointment as Dolly,
and they used to chit-chat all the time. And so
you can go back and listen to the podcast from
last week if you want to hear, you know, she
always chose pink or red and the kind of things
she would talk about and the fact that her husband.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Carl— would drop her off in his truck.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
That one gets me.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
She'd go get her nails done, and then he would
pick her up. Angelia said, that's absolutely true. And then
I got a message from her after we had that
little chit-chat. She said she lived her life as Dolly
from Sevierville, not as the national treasure that she was.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
And then she sent this. I remembered another story.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
One time when Carl picked Dolly up at the salon,
they swung through the Captain D's drive-thru.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
There was a Captain D's right near our salon.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Everybody would watch as she drove away, and they would watch.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Look, she was a regular person. She got some fish
and fries, too. Thank you. Keep it coming. We like
hearing from you.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Up next, three things to know today.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Here's three things to know today.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Number one, rescue teams worked all day yesterday, Sunday and yesterday,
to rescue about 80 people in the Grand Canyon. Hikers
who were there after these flash floods went through the
floodwaters through the canyon and they were stranded there.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Now, two people died.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
About 60 were evacuated by helicopter and 20 others guided
to safety on foot. These floods did significant damage to
even like the infrastructure and parts of the park and
different canyon areas.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Pretty bad. Number two. you know about dry January. Did
you know about sober September?
Speaker 2 (10:04):
It's a trend and a lot of people are doing
it right now, taking a break from, you know, all
the summer fun and the booze and the sun that goes.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Along with it.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
To just take care of yourself. Take a month before
the holiday overindulgence comes. It's just a mental health thing
and a physical thing.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
It might be a little tough tailgating, but sure.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
It's called Sober September, and no, tailgating is.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
You can tailgate without drinking. I know.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
You know that.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
I do.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
And number three.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Walmart has turned its rotisserie chicken into a purse.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Have you seen it?
Speaker 2 (10:35):
No. And it costs about the same as a rotisserie chicken.
So for $ 6, you can carry the bag, either traditional or.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
The lemon pepper one.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
Does it smell like chicken?
Speaker 3 (10:45):
No, it does not. You get it at sparkshop.com.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
It also comes with like bag charms, like tiny chickens
and hot sauce. They did this before with like a
little Birkin bag. It was $ 6 also.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
You're up to date.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Three things to know today.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Biggest mistakes that families make, people make in national parks.
But this is not just some list conjured up. This
is information from park rangers who've seen these mistakes over
and over again. We've all heard stories lately, you know,
whether it's weather or something that no one's fault.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Tragic stuff.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
But scary, scary stuff. You have to realize, and nothing
makes you realize it more until you go into a
national park and you realize, oh... There's not a McDonald's
on the corner here. I am in the middle of
the wilderness.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
I'm in the wild.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
It's what makes it so beautiful and special and rightly
so protected. But so the biggest mistakes and we'll get
to the getting too close to wildlife because, of course,
that's on the list.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
But it's not the first thing. Murphy, you'll love the
first thing.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Not checking current conditions, not knowing about the weather, not
knowing about the changes or what the forecast is like,
you know, different. Levels of elevation and different, not wearing
the right clothing and not knowing, hey, it's going to
rain or there's a storm on the horizon or it's
going to be 110 at this peak or place. Not
being ready for that has gotten more people in trouble.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
And if you're not used to doing it in the
first place, if your time is in the city, like
you're saying, with everything you need on the corner, it's
not second nature to know that.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
Which ones?
Speaker 3 (12:19):
I mean, who of us are ready for that?
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
And the other thing about going into a national park, which,
you know, this is, and I know that you think
it's funny that I did this, but it's the reason
I got a Starlink, a little portable Starlink, is because
you go into a national park, at some point you
won't have cell service, depending on how deep you're in.
So you need the equipment to make sure that you
can actually stay connected to the outside world to get
that information.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Relying on cell service is one of the things on
the list.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Is it? mistake that's made thinking you're going to have that. Like, well,
I'll call you when I'm ready to come out. No,
you won't.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Right.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
You won't.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Not planning ahead in regards to, like, packing extra food
or water. Even if you're only planning to be there
for the day, just in case. What if something happens
and you twist your ankle and you can't get out
quick enough or something like that and you don't have
enough water? You haven't planned ahead. So pack more than,
you know, you think you might need. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Not telling someone where you're going.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Somebody needs to know.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
You know, a lot of people who love being in
the national park and being in nature.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Do like to do it solo. That's why you hear
about it.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Oh, they go hiking.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
And that's understandable.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
But somebody needs to know not only that you're going in,
but where are you planning?
Speaker 3 (13:34):
What trail? What part of the park?
Speaker 2 (13:36):
How long?
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Yeah. There's more.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
We're going to get to it later for you. And
we'd love to hear your experiences, too. So join us anytime.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
877-310-4MSJ.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Coming up at 7.50, Jodi has three things to know today.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Morning pick-me-up time. Wouldn't you like to know what the
attitude is? And one of the keys to longevity is
from the world's oldest living person, according to the World
Book of Records.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Her name is Ethel. She's 117. She turned 117 in August.
So just a couple weeks ago, she had her... That's incredible.
She was born in 1909. Cool.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
In the United Kingdom, when the great-great-grandfather of the current
King Charles was on the throne. And two weeks ago,
when she turned 117, King Charles visited her. And, you know,
congratulations on being the youngest... I mean, the oldest living person. Wow.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
So she got to meet the king.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
That's cool. Only took 117 years.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
But.
One of the things that she says that's a key
to her longevity. Now, sometimes when you ask people in
their 100s and they'll say something like.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Well, I drink a Coke every day or whatever.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
A shot of whiskey.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
Right.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
She says one of the keys to hers is being non-confrontational.
She has a non-confrontational attitude and she does not like
to argue. So she doesn't get it. She doesn't engage
in arguments, although she says she doesn't. She rarely compromises, too.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Yeah. That's cute.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
I'm thinking she just walks away from the discussion and
does what she wants.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Anyway, so she's had a lot of firsts in her
last years of life. She got to meet the king.
She petted a llama for the first time the other day.
She celebrated with family and friends recently. She has outlived
her husband by 50 years. He died 50 years ago.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Murphy, she didn't remarry. You like that story? She actually
outlived her two daughters, which is so sad.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
You know, she has been through some pain, but she
does have three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She used
to love to travel when she was younger. She was
a nanny for a British family living in India for
many years. Anyway, she is the oldest person alive because
also earlier this year, a nun who was 116 passed away.
(16:04):
So now she's the oldest person living, according to Guinness
World Records.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Incredible.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Anyway, her name is Ethel, and the key is being non-confrontational.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
That works.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Coming up next, Jodi has your Hollywood Outsiders.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
Trending now. Jodi's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Big news from Disney. There's a triple drop, if you
can call it that, on Disney Plus tomorrow. All things
Star Wars.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
Wow, that sounds good.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Did you know this was coming? You're a Star Wars person.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
What things are they?
Speaker 2 (16:34):
So they're going to drop on Disney Plus tomorrow Star
Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
Oh, we kind of knew that.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
We knew that was coming, but they're doing more.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
There's also going to be a two-episode video and audio
official podcast. about it all, with Jon Favreau, some others,
and Pedro Pascal going to be a part of it.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
Sigourney Weaver as well.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Going to try and save it, huh?
Speaker 3 (16:55):
A lot of people liked.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
It, especially younger people. And then they're also dropping Lego
Star Wars, The Mandalorian. Disney describing this one as their
own comedic retelling of all three seasons of the live-action series.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Now that I may have to check out.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Right, so look.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
For that, a triple drop of Star Wars on Disney
Plus tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Also, we saw and heard this Lionel Richie news.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
That he went straight from the stage to ICU over
the weekend. He was performing in St. Louis at a
concert and he was feeling dizzy. He finished even though
he sat down in a chair and told the audience, man,
I don't know what's going on.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
He's been having some health problems on this tour.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
He has. What we're being told is that he was
told by a doctor that you're suffering from dehydration. And
he was having energy issues as well. His next performance
is scheduled for later this month in San Francisco.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Coming up next, can't wait to hear from you.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
A lot of love and questions rolling in about the
new lady.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
In your life, Sam. Direct message us on Facebook.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
So many things rolling into Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, all the
places about the new lady in Sam's life, baby girl Lucy.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
New dog.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
New dog.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
We don't know what, like she's a mutt. She's a mix.
But she looks, Murphy thinks she looks like a shepherd dog.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
She looks like shepherd collie mix. You know, she's got
a whole bunch of things going there, but you know.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
I love the way Sam was going to get not
a puppy. And when she's like, she's puppyish.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
I know. I know.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
And are her paws big? You said she's going to
grow into them.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Her paws are big, which is one of the first
things I looked at. And it's like, wait, big paws,
that means big dog. But they're telling me a puppy. So,
I mean, it wasn't a puppy. So, whatever.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
We shall see.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
It's life. Right, right.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Rhonda said this. Awesome. Can you imagine Sam coming home
now and say, Lucy, I'm home.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
Yeah, right.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
You need to say it. Louie says, you got yourself
a good looking lady. She's so sweet. The perfect furmance.
That came from Karen. Oh, that's cute.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Wendy said, so happy for Sam and Lucy. And then
Jen said, I'm beaming.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (19:07):
And there are a lot of other people. people on
social sharing the pictures of their dogs. And there's a
lot of dogs that look like her. She's black with
the little brown, like it's almost like she got the
little brown eyebrows and the brown paws.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
There's one that's a combo Beagle Doberman that looks like her.
And there's one that's a part shepherd that looks like her.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
So cute.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
She still hasn't barked. You've had her for four days.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
I haven't heard her bark. Oh, you know what? What's too,
this is like watching a toddler. The first time I
turned the TV on when she was there, she walks
up to the screen and she's just like, what is
this magic?
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Well, this is a TV.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
And then the first time that Alexa talked.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Oh, she was like, what's that?
Speaker 4 (19:48):
Wait, I thought we were the only ones in the house. Oh, yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
They're so, dogs are so, it's like she'll learn the
sound of your car. She'll know when it's you coming home.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
All of that.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
There's so much going on right now. Has someone knocked
on the door yet?
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Not yet.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
No.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
You might hear a bark when that happens.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
It might.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
It might. Deanna says, yay, I'm so happy for you, Sam.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
My husband is sticking to his guns at two dogs,
but I'm still working on him to let.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
Us have a robust pack. She's a cutie pie. That's
from Deanna. All the love pouring in.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Thank you. If you did not get to see Miss Lucy,
the dog who rescued Sam this weekend, you can go
see her on our Instagram and Facebook pages.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Coming up next, Jodi has three things to know today.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
Three things to know today.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Number one, if you've ever been scammed or you recognize
something as a scam, what should you do? According to
the FTC, Federal Trade Commission, tell somebody, tell one person
in your life what that scam looked like so they
can recognize it. Then also report it. You can go
to FTC.gov. They want and need us to all report
these things because why?
Speaker 4 (20:52):
So they can alert everybody.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Most people who get scammed don't tell anybody out of embarrassment,
and that's why it keeps working.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
Gotcha.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
No kidding. Makes sense. FTC.gov to report. Number two, college football.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
We had week zero last week, but they said this
is not going to happen anymore. Oversight Committee looked at
it and said they're going to move the calendar up
one week. So next year, the season will begin on
the Thursday of what is now designated as week zero,
and we will still wrap up the season on the
Saturday after Thanksgiving. And number three, Dolly Parton, of course,
was laid to rest. There was a funeral, a private one,
(21:26):
in Nashville on Friday. But guess what the public is
going to get? A two-day festival in 2027.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Called Dolly Fest.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
It was originally scheduled to happen earlier this year in
January around her 80th birthday. And she had approved it
and she wanted to be a part of it. And
then she started having health issues. Yeah. And so they
said the family and the estate said this is what
we're going to do. This will be like the memorial
for everyone together. It will happen in Nashville and London.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
You're up to date.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Three things to know today.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
More mistakes that you don't want to make when you
go into a national park. Not that anyone who gets
in trouble in a national park has made a mistake.
You are a human being and you're in a wild situation.
But we touched on the fact that know the weather,
know the current conditions. And Murphy, you nailed it. Don't
rely on cell service. You will lose cell service.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Guaranteed.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
And if you can do a backup, great. Look, there
are a lot of alternatives that you can even do
sort of a pay-as-you-go thing so that you have satellite access. Something,
if you're going to be gone for a while.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Murphy's the good tech person to have in the middle
of nowhere. Okay, so this information, though, comes to us
from park rangers with a lot of experience. And one
of the mistakes that people make, dressing inappropriately.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
It doesn't mean.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Wait, wait, wait, wait. Dressing inappropriately. You mean not dressing
properly for the.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
Meaning?
Speaker 3 (22:51):
Changing temperatures.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
What if you get wet? You need to have layers.
And so let me break this down. Ten essentials recommended
by the National Park Service. You will see this on
all park websites. The ten essentials you need to go
into a park with. Know that you need to have navigation.
You need to have thought about that.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Sun protection. Extra clothing. First aid. Light. Flashlights. Whatever. Fire.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
You need to have the ability for fire. Repair tools,
you know, your little Swiss Army knives would be good.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Stuff like that. Extra food, extra.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Water, and the final one being shelter, a tent, especially
if you're going to spend significant time there or spend
the night. Those are essentials that they recommend you bring
into a national park.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
You know, the weather one, I remember when we went
to Clingman's Dome and the Smokies. I think we knew
that it was going to be cooler when we went
up there.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
But we were like freezing.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
But we were dressed for 90 degrees, which is what
it was in the park. And it was 55 up there.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Oh, wow.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
It's crazy.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
It's exhilarating.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
It's weird to drive up and then, yeah, it's very exhilarating.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
Yeah. If you've been stuck there, it wouldn't have been exhilarating.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
No.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
We were not ready for it at all.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
A couple of other mistakes that families and people make,
and you knew I was going to get to getting
too close to wildlife.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
It's 25 yards or the length of two buses for
most wildlife. And then for, they say, 100 yards, you know,
for predators like cougars and bears, you want to stay
as far as you can from them, as far as
you can.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
Do not go seeking them out.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
And then another thing is just going too far.
Speaker 3 (24:26):
You're having a great hike. It's beautiful.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Don't go further than you had planned because that's how
also people can get in trouble. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Scary.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
I guess, you know, remember, if you go, you know,
go in one direction, you have that same distance to
travel to go back. To where you came from in
the first place, yeah. Coming up, Jodi has another Hollywood outsider,
and next, Sam has music news.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Got a new Swifty rumor. Apparently, she's making a documentary.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
Sam's got music news.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
Recently, the Swifty sleuths for Taylor Swift say that they
think she's giving us clues as to re-releasing her first album,
Taylor Swift.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
Our song is.
Such a baby.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
She sounds like such a baby right there.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
Which, by the way, it came out 20 years ago,
so that's why they're thinking, oh, maybe it's a 20th
anniversary kind of thing. But now, and I have no
clue where they're getting this information. Number one, they're saying
that she's been in the studio with the Hames sisters,
which means it could be a little rocky if she's
doing a new album, or maybe she's going to show
up on the Hames sisters album. The other one is
(25:30):
that she's working on a documentary on an undisclosed subject
so far. Good. And I don't know what that would be.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
I mean, we already had an Heiress Tour documentary.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
Maybe because it's the 20th anniversary of Taylor Swift, maybe
there's a documentary.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
There's so much. She can make a documentary out of
one dinner date. So who knows?
Speaker 4 (25:52):
Of course, none of this is confirmed because Taylor has
not confirmed any of this.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
She's got to get ready for football season.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
Another album that's celebrating its 20th anniversary this year is
Back to Black from Amy Winehouse.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (26:05):
So they are releasing a 20th anniversary reissue. It's going
to have rarities on there, some unreleased demos from the
original album, some B-sides, and then there's going to be
a whole concert that she recorded on the Back to
Black tour. You get to hear that for the first time.
It's going to be three LPs or three CDs. Mark
Ronson was one of the producers. He's going to have
(26:26):
some new liner notes in this new reissue.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
You know, I had just discovered her and started really
listening to her when she died.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
I think that's the way it was for a lot
of people. I mean, she had been around for a minute,
but that album just blew in.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
It was huge.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
Here's something that's really, like, looking into Taylor Swift's 20th
anniversary for their first album, they both came out the
same week. That one and Back to Black the same
week in October of 2006.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
Oh, did they really? Wow.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
That's great. Wow, what a great week, huh?
Speaker 3 (26:56):
No kidding.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
And, you know, Tom Hardy, you know, from Mobland and
Peaky Blinders, Dark Knight Rises, he put out a new
rap album. What? Here you go.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
That's not what I imagined him sounding like.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
And there's also a part in here where he does
in the Bane voice a little Shakespeare. Now is the winter.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Oh, there he is. Okay.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Coming up next, your Hollywood Outsider. Jodi's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Did you hear about this Hunger Games event at the
movies for five nights in a row starting Thursday?
Speaker 1 (27:34):
The victors of the 74th Hunger Games.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
If you love these books or love these movies, this
is what they're doing. Fathom is putting together all five
Hunger Games movies, putting them back in theaters one a
night in order. So Thursday is the first one. Friday
is Catching Fire. Saturday is Mockingjay Part 1. Sunday, Part 2.
Monday on Labor Day, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
(27:59):
So five nights, five movies, the whole thing all the
way through.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
That's really cool.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
I mean, it's not too much. On a holiday weekend, too.
Good chance you'll see it.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Correct. And you don't have to sit down and binge
them all. One movie a night and in the theater.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
Here's something extra.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Every single one at screenings will have something extra attached.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
First look.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
At the new one, Sunrise on the Reaping, which is coming.
So that's really cool. So tickets are on sale now. Again,
it starts Thursday night, and it's one movie every night
all the way through Labor Day.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
Or you could go see Spider-Man again.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Oh, yeah, that's still playing and doing really well.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
We do something at our house, Murphy and I, and
it's not like we plan it, but every once in
a while I.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Call it Grocery Store Buffet. And I did it the
other day.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
So there's a great little grocery store not far from
where you live, Sam.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
I'm out visiting my mom or whatever, and I'll swing
in there.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
Local store.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Right.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
And Murphy, when I go there, I call him. I'm like,
guess where I am? I'm at that little grocery store.
And they have all, you know, most grocery stores have
a deli. This one just, there's something about it, you know?
Everything we've ever had just really stands up.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
Well, when you have a choice of everything from fried
to baked and whatever, I mean, you can actually eat.
And there are a lot of specialty grocery stores that
are doing that now, expanding their delis so that you've
got the hot bar and you've got the cold stuff.
And so, yeah, it's like, it's fun. If you go
into that store hungry, you're going to want to pick
up one of everything.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
Oh, my gosh. And so I call him like, let
me see if he wants grocery store buffet.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
That's what you call it?
Speaker 2 (29:40):
It? Yeah. Because that makes me happy because all I
have to do when I get home is put it
on the counter, open it up, and we eat. And
you're like, yeah. I got him the seafood salad. That's
a cold thing with the little, you know, the, what
do you call it? Imitation crab meat.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Imitation crab meat and real shrimp mixed in it, which
is good.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
And we get little chicken wings, broccoli salad. That's you.
I don't like that one.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
I love broccoli salad.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
They got all kind of stuff on there. They do.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Oh, I brought him a little thing of barbecue ribs
to try.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
Those were delicious. Never had those before. Well, what I
like about it is you didn't buy just one big
thing of, you know, a couple of things. You bought
a little bit of everything so you can try. And
that does make it a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
You ever do that, Sam? When you don't want to
cook something, just go pick up a few little.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
At that grocery store, I've done it, but I go
for the seafood there. All the fried fish and the
fried shrimp. Shrimp.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
We've done that, too.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
And they charge you about a pound, too, don't they?
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Yes. It's okay. They should.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
How many pounds of a buffet did you get?
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Oh, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
It was just for two of us.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
But what's funny is that we were both hungry. We're visiting,
standing up in the kitchen, eating this. Like, it's not
fancy at all.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
But we had leftovers.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Then you eat it again the next day.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
It's just such a fun, sweet little spot in life.
You don't realize you're going to get there.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
Yeah. But grocery store buffet night is legit.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
What I think of it is like, you know, doing
a small plates night at a dinner because you're getting
a little bit of everything. And that's sometimes it's just
fun to do.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
So you want to do it again tonight?
Speaker 4 (31:10):
Sure. Three things to know today.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
Number one, if you've ever heard that you can't catch
up on sleep over the weekend, some health experts are saying, well,
maybe a little bit. You always heard that it's bad
for your internal clock to sleep way off of your
schedule on the weekends. But as long as you don't
overdo it, here's the deal. So Saturday and Sunday, or
even if you have a long weekend, if you don't
(31:36):
go over 90 minutes more.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
You're okay.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
That's sleeping late, though. 90 more minutes is good for you.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
That was three hours. Okay.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Number two, the new Keurig-style coffee maker is coming from
Lavazza with the plastic-free pods made of coffee. It's the
Tabli machine. It's new now, made with, you know, compressed coffee.
No capsule, no wrapper, no coating. At the push of
a button, you get a delicious cup.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Espresso style, actually.
Speaker 4 (32:07):
The coffee is squished together, and I would disc yeah
and so it's gone once the water runs through it.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Yeah and they debuted it um in italy first of
course and now it's coming here number three free tv
has landed on the playstation 5 like 100 something channels
no subscription they just dropped it yesterday okay it's ad
supported but there's no um playstation plus required if you
have a playstation account you log in and boom Amazon,
(32:35):
MGM Studios, Fox is there, NBCUniversal, NFL Channel, even UFC.
Speaker 4 (32:40):
You're up to date.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Three things to know today.
