Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy Salmon Jody Daily Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Social media connect.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
It's Keep the Wow Wednesday, a day where we love
to hear about your personal wows. What is happening for
you that is worth celebrating, even if it's little, even
if it's only just.
Speaker 4 (00:16):
In your own mind.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Okay, keep your wows and Mary has sent us an
email to Murphy Samonjody dot com. Wanted to tell you
guys about our two wowls. My husband and my high
functioning son and I have been living in a rent
house for eleven years. After my mom passed away, we
paid off some of her debts and we sold her home.
Then we were able to buy our own beautiful home
(00:39):
on April thirtieth. Grets so excited to finally be paying
our own mortgage after paying off almost half of our
landlord's home. It's a beautiful, older, one story built in
nineteen eighty five home, and it's hours now having so
much fun making it our own. Best of all, we
got a great price. The second wow involves you, guys lol.
(01:01):
Our sixteen year old red Border Collie Boomer passed away
on February second, after a few years of experiencing many
of the same issues as your champ. He was my
hubby's constant shadow and this has left him heartbroken for
a while. Once he healed, he decided we were ready
as a family to look for our new buddy. We
adopted a new rescue on Saturday. He is a little
(01:25):
over two years old, very very timid and shy, never
making a sound during our families two meet and greets.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
He did a cat test. We walked him.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
The old cat test.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
They do that at the shelters. Guys. You may not
know that, but they do.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
They make sure if you're going to bring a dog
home and there's a cat there, they test at the
shelter to see.
Speaker 5 (01:44):
Mart throw a cat in the case.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
No, they do not throw anything. They know what they're doing,
maybe Wes. This goes on to read from Mary. We
brought him home Saturday afternoon. He is slowly learning to
trust us. We haven't heard him bark, and we are
excitedly waiting to hear his voice. Now, how does this
involve you, guys, Well, he had been in the shelter
a long time. We decided to name him Murphy after
(02:10):
you Murphy. Really, well, my husband and you seem to
have a lot in common. And around the same time
Murphy began experiencing vision issues, which has been a couple
of years ago. My husband had the same thing as
if you were talking about him.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
That's crazy.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
They also have prisms in their glasses. I don't even
know that about Murphy. They also get the same neck
injections and are both proponents of therapy.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
I could go on and on.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Wow, it's like he's like my twin. And I didn't
even know if the prism thing was that whole eye
issue that I had that went away anyway.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
I know this has been a book.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Wanted to let you guys how much know how much
we enjoy the show and the positivity you put out
into the world. We love knowing there's no politics or
no negativity. And thank you for being you and helping
us find our Wow. It's from Mary and family and Murphy.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Thank you, Mary coming up with six fifty three things
to note today.
Speaker 2 (03:02):

freezer section. Now at the grocery store. Okay, wait, you
get your own bag.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
You had them at a truck stop.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Yeah, this truck stop had an Arby's. I'd heard about
potato cakes for a long time, potato cakes, and uh,
it was an opportunity while I was on the road.
I'm like, I'm going to get them, and they were
worth it.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
Never miss an opportunity a truck stop.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
I waited for them to become to come fresh out
of the fryar.
Speaker 5 (03:42):
Now you can do it at home. And tried the
Angus cheese steak yet not you tried it? Yes, the
cheese and onions are great. Oh and you don't have
to get the half pound version because there's enough meat
on the regular version. Okay, good deal, because you know
Arby's they got the meats all right, Thank you. I

Speaker 3 (04:34):
I saw that one like they're they're doing like avocado
toast as well, and things like that now too, because
you know, all the places have drinks now and now
the drink places have food.
Speaker 5 (04:43):
Yeah, and hearing I'll talk about avocado toast. The other day,
I put someone I bought an avocado first time ever
and put it on a bagel, first time soft. I
don't ever buy avocados so good, and I whipped it out,
smashed it all up and put it on the bagel
along with my bagel. Season in the egg.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
Seasoned it.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
Yeah good.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
It is so good and it's actually good for you.
It's got healthy fats.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
And here's one. For the entire month of July, Applebee's
is bringing back the dollar rita. The entire month. The
dollar rita is back. Margarita tequila triplesec and line for
one dollar.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Yeah whatever, even if it's bad, it's good.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
It's a dollar.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Thank you food dude. Coming up next, your Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Trending now, Jody's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
You guys may be aware, maybe not about the surprise
horror movie that's still doing well at the box office.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Well did really well already called back Rooms?
Speaker 5 (05:40):
Why did you feel me?
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Yeah? Call my leader.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
What is this?
Speaker 5 (05:45):
That's what I'm trying to figure out.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Sam, You're a horror person.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
I don't understand it.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
It's about these.
Speaker 5 (05:50):
What's about backrooms in an office that.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
You can't gets?
Speaker 5 (05:55):
Back rooms? But what's in them? Right?
Speaker 1 (05:57):
So you watched it and you still don't understand it.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
Now I just watched the Okay, I've read up on it,
and it's about going into the back rooms and what
really it's.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
A psychological horror sort of science fiction movie about a
guy who owns a furniture store and discovers his own
back rooms, but he can't get out of them, and
it just puts you, probably to where you cannot breathe anymore.
Think about it being in an escape room that you
can never get out of. That his therapist comes in
after him. It's highly praised. Everybody's loving it. Okay, it's
(06:27):
being re released this weekend in theaters with fifteen minutes
of bonus footage.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Oh great, called back Rooms. Everything must go. Addition fifteen stress.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
And there's an exclusive post credit thing with featuring the
director or chewtel A Duophoor, who's fantastic. So if you
like this genre or you've heard a lot about this
and want to go see it, a holiday weekend back
Rooms Extended edition playing in theaters this weekend.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
On the way, it's six fifty. Jody has three things
to note today.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
I want to say thanks to everybody who's asked and
reached out about how my mom is doing after her
major surgery. And I will say she is improving a
little bit every day. We're not to the point where
she's in pain free yet she still is dealing with
a lot of pain.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Yeah. Well it's I mean, it was an very intense,
very serious, you know, life saving surgery it was. And
I haven't seen you much at home as a result
from that, which is fine too.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
Well we're here, are you seeing me here?
Speaker 1 (07:28):
I know?
Speaker 3 (07:28):
And what's been happening. We're about to be on vacation,
so you're gonna see me a lot, actually, maybe too much.
She gets a make up for some time really soon, Murph.
But the last couple of weeks it's been at work,
and then as soon as I'm done with work, I
go out to her house and I told you, we
even did a whole little podcast on some of the
things that she's been We bring her popsicles, and yesterday
(07:49):
I brought her caramel mocha latte as she was, you know,
kind of craving. And one day she is supposed to
be on a heart healthy diet, but you.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Know, is a caramel mochla on that well.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Kind of, I mean kind of, believe me, she drank
three SIPs of it. Understand, her appetite is not even
at a normal level. Yet, her appetite is not up.
So anything we bring her, we were really stepping lightly
on the diet at first, and now we realize anything
we can get in her is a great, a great thing.
So what four or five days ago, earlier in the
(08:23):
week I brought her she asked she would like a cheeseburger,
and I said, how about a kid's meal?
Speaker 4 (08:27):
And don't eat many of the fries and she didn't.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
She had a couple of the fries, but she loved
the cheeseburger. She's like, that actually tastes good to me.
Everything else doesn't taste good.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Did she like the toy too?
Speaker 3 (08:39):
She doesn't even know about the toy. It was like
a minion's toy. She doesn't want that, or maybe her
cats would.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
But when I rolled in yesterday, Murphy she had had
a rough day just physically, and I could tell.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
I thought, okay, she is going to need to talk,
you know.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
And I'm sitting there listening to her and We're just
I'm just rubbing her hands and how are you doing?
And tell me about it? And she said it was okay,
this was this. I'm, you know, ready to go to
bed early tonight. And then she looked down at me
and I saw a little spark again with one of
the first sparks, and she said, do you bring me
a cheeseburger?
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Really?
Speaker 4 (09:17):
I said no, I'll do that tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
So I'm bringing her another kid's meal today. That's the update.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Up next, Jody's got three things to know today.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Three things to know today, Number one, as we get
ready to celebrate America's two hundred and fiftieth birthday. You
can score some really good deals. I know you've been
sprinkling them in for us, Sam during the food Dude.
But Burger King offering loyalty members a two dollars and
fifty cent whopper and whopper juniors cents.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
That's better than a two hundred and fifty dollars whopper.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Sure, Krispy Kreme offering free original glazed donuts on July fourth,
only you just got a note.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
Good, got it?
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Great American Cookies offering free cookies July first now through
the fourth for active duty military and veterans.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Cool number two. Number two.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
We mentioned that hot dogs are the number one cookout
thing for Americans for Fourth of July, along with hamburgers.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
But hot dogs are king.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
But the side dish that's number one. It's not fries.
It's baked beans. If you're in the baked beans business,
you sell more beans for Fourth of July than almost
any other time.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
I kind of associate it with it, but I would
you know, beans.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
Beans are good for your heart.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
Okay, thank you Sam for that. It's true.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Just so you know, expect beans at any cookout you
go to. And number three. July fourth weekend also one
of those weekends where you can decide to love or
not like so much your neighbors. If you're doing fireworks,
don't go too early, don't go days early, don't go
too late.
Speaker 5 (10:52):
Please, don't wait till midnight.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
What do you mean don't wait? Oh, because you're sleeping.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Yeah, Well, and make sure you're in a place where
it's legally do it in the right.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Not everyone loves fireworks as much as you do.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
You're up to date. Three things to know today.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Tipping in America is a part of the conversation because
of the FIFA World Cup and so many international travelers
here for the World Cup who do not tip in
their countries and think it's bogus, they don't want to
do it, well, like twenty percent.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
What but you understand, I mean, different countries are different,
different cultures are different, and so the way they do
it in their country is just.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
The way they do it.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
They're not intentional, they're not doing anything intentionally wrong. It's
just the way that what they're used.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
To, right exactly.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
We all roll in the way that feels comfortable to
us and what we feel is normal. So that's what's
been going on, and in certain cities and host cities,
some of the restaurants and bars have just decided to
for their servers for you know, the way we roll
in America to put to include it, okay, a service fee,
the service fee exactly.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
So is it rude not to tip? In the USA?
Speaker 3 (11:57):
The word is it's generally consider or to the bars
and the restaurant's rude not to tip because it's not
legally required. It's you know, it's optional tip. But mostly
in America we do tip.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Well and a lot of I think in a lot
of cases bartenders, some servers are not even they're not
paid minimum wage. Tips are part of.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
That's part of what they work for, right, Yeah, absolutely,
So what's expected for we all know this, but want
to go over it again. Sit down restaurants, Fifteen to
twenty percent is the standard for acceptable service. If your
service is exceptional, pull of Murphy and go higher.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Murphy's a big tipper.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
When somebody has really done the hard work. It's thirty
percent for bars.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
And I don't know if you guys when you used
to drink, I'm sure you tipped even better than Murphy.
Probably so it used to be about two dollars per drink.
It's fifteen or twenty percent of the whole tab. There's
a whole tab.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Yeah, I guess it depends on how expensive the drink
in the shot is.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
How many of you have many of them? Ride shares
like Gouber and left.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Ten to twenty percent is generally expected in that world,
and drivers do depend on this. It's part of what
they figure and count on making well.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
And the Uber app will set a default anyway. It
makes a suggestion for you before you get out, as
I like to should.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
Yeah, and if you don't tip, you get posts.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Oh that's right, the reviews.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
The review As a rider, you get rated as well. Yeah,
there's a piece of news to be pushing your luck.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Personal services haircuts, manicures, massages fifteen to twenty percent, remember
that one.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
That's a big one in America.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Fifteen to twenty percent is the baseline for acceptable service. Again,
if it's exceptional and if it's below. If you have
bad service, you can do a little less, but you
still should tip, they say. And for hotel services, two
dollars for bags. For bell hops, two dollars per bag
for bell hops. Those are the basics.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Coming up at seven fifty Jody's got three things to
Know today and next your morning pick me.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Up, Morning, pick me up to This is beautiful and
a reminder that Toy Story five is still playing at
the box office and killing it.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
It's still number one tech in our house.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
Two. I don't know, Jesse, toys are for play, but
tech for everything.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
I mean, the storyline is perfect for our time. I
have not seen it. We have not done that yet.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
I do want to see that maybe when we're on vacation.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Maybe you know, toys still matter even in a tech world.
And they address the fact that children are growing up
in a tech world where toys seem less important, but
they are so important. This pick me up Those story
is from a middle school in Phoenix, more than one
hundred students who attend the After the Bell Summer program.
(14:45):
They were supposed to be They were promised, Hey, when
this movie comes out, you're not in school anymore, and
you know in summertime we're gonna In fact, it's probably
how they signed. One of the reasons they wanted to
sign up for this program because they were gonna all
get to go see Toy Story five together.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
As a funding fell through Here we are in June.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Well, one of the school, the school resource officer, his
name is Sean, decided to cover the cost of it
for every student in that program, and not.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
Just to see the movie.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Now.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
I'm sure he picked them out in May.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
It's a summer program, but he paid for the ticket
for every student, and he paid for popcorn, candy, and
a drink for every student. Wow, the price tag under
two thousand dollars. We're just under two thousand, and he
said when he was asked about it, why he didn't.
You can't break a promise to a child. They were
promised this in their summer.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Beautiful, that's really beautiful.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
He also, he's like a twenty year law enforcement veteran
and he's just involved there in the community. He's like
a lot of these kids, you know, they can't just
make that happen. They can't just say I didn't get
to go, so mom and dad can we go? And
so he before the movie rolled, he stood up in
front of the I mean, I guess since he paid
to rent out the whole thing, they let him. They
(15:57):
let him have a moment. He just encouraged the kids
to help each other as they grow older in life.
They're middle school, which I think is a very important
age for this to have. They're never going to forget
it as you get older, help each other in life
as payback to me, and enjoy the movie.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
Beautiful Officer Sean.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
By the way, Toy Story five still number one, probably
until Spider Man comes along this summer.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
Up next, Jody has your Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Jody's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Let's talk a little bit of Yellowstone for you, because
Taylor shared and the creator of it is finally talking.
I mean, he always his usual stuff that he doesn't
listen to critics. He doesn't care what critics think, and
why should he.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Well, you, if you're a creative type, you don't need
that noise in your head, right, true.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
It doesn't matter what other people think of you.
Speaker 5 (16:47):
I mean, they're all success so they are.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
I have not even watched the Madison yet, but I'm
going to. The Last time I tried Murphy, you weren't home.
I turned it on, I was logged out. You're the
keeper of the passwords.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Uh oh really?
Speaker 4 (17:02):
Pain?
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Anyway, I wanted to tell you the story. Taylor Sheridan
made some rare comments about Kevin Costner leaving Yellowstone, and
it's not bad as you might have thought.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
The word is the heat.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
That Kevin had only signed on to do the first
three seasons and then they were going to literally hand
the baton to the sun like he had. But he
stayed on for two more seasons. If you remember, he
was in five seasons of Yellowstone.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
Because it was so successful.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
He couldn't He didn't feel like he could walk away.
But he really wanted to do his own thing. Yeah,
remember what his own thing was?
Speaker 5 (17:37):
Yeah, a failure.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Unfortunately. I feel for him.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Yeah, this epic Western horizon that he only made one
part so far. I don't know what is ever going
to become of that, but I think that the beginning
of Yellowstone and that whole empire. You have Kevin Costner
and Taylor Sheridan to thank for it.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Coming up at seven fifty, Jody has three things to
note today.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
Join us anytime you can comment, you can message, you
can text, you can email. All the ways you can
reach us. Beer, get sent something to Facebook, Messenger, heard
you guys talking about the tip surcharge. Now barget is
from Germany. We hear from her a lot says in
Germany for example, we don't tip because weight staff pay
is high enough to not have to rely on tips
(18:23):
to supplement your income. Okay, Europeans in general are very
confused about the tipping culture here in the US. Taxes
are also already added into the price of a product.
So when something in Europe is nineteen ninety nine, that's
what you pay, not nineteen ninety nine plus state in
local taxes.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Interesting, Bergitt, thank you for that.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
That's the reason no one's trying to stiff us employees
at bars and restaurants.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
It's just not the way that they roll.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
I wonder if the opposite happens when Americans go overseas
and we start tipping and it's like.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
What is it?
Speaker 4 (18:56):
It gave me too much money? I don't know, So anyway,
jump any time.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Rebecca also sent this message different subject matter from the
other day in food Dude, when you were talking about
the glasses and we were talking about Red Lobster glasses.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Yes, oh yeah, the collector's glass. There's a lot of
businesses and restaurants will.
Speaker 4 (19:13):
Be doing them now and used to do them.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Rebecca says, Jody, you're correct, Red Lobster did have a
naked lady glass. Oh really, she says, I had two
of them as well as the lighthouse glass. Naked lady
glass was large enough to hold a twelve ounce pepsi
with ice and still had room for rum.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Okay, I mean, and Jody swear she remembers that from
my parents' house when my dad passed and we were
cleaning things out.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
I never saw naked lady glass. I heard you talking
about it. Yes, said that you remembered a naked lady glass,
and you did say that your parents collected red lobster glasses.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Yeah, but I thought that that was probably something like
my dad's dad, who served in World War Two, if
they're in the whole pin up girl era that I
thought that that glass was that.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
I don't remember an You think.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Your dad wouldn't liked the naked lady glass, you're wrong.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
Well, I'm not saying he didn't. I mean, I just
say that seems like an odd combo at red Lobster.
That's like saying the naked lady glass at Chuck E Cheese.
Speaker 5 (20:10):
You know, was it a mermaid though?
Speaker 3 (20:11):
You know, a red lobster maybe, But there was a
lighthouse and you still have the lighthouse glass. In fact,
I thought it was a vase. Yeah, and I used
it as a vase anyway. I still use it as
a vase when you have just a small bunch of flowers.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
It's perfect.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
Yeah, minus the vodka.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
Thank you, Rebecca.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Join us anytime you can even call our text eight
seven seven three one zero four MSJ coming up next.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Three things to note today.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Here's three things to know today.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
Number one, Apparently money a very difficult subject for many couples.
Half of all couples keeping financial secrets from each other.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
Murphy.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
Anyway, Apparently a lot of couples today don't combine their
finances and so they can keep separate accounts and whatnot.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
We'll do that, do we, Murphy.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
No, we keep our accounts together as far as.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
You Yeah, very cute. Love it.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
Number two, speaking of money, how about saving some when
you're traveling this summer? With the mc cheapest map for
McDonald's across the country, there are ten thousand locations.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Okay, I assume this is not a McDonald's.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
But if you know different franchises owners can they do
and can price things differently, so you can find the
cheapest Big Mac or the most expensive Big.
Speaker 5 (21:24):
Mac on and on and on to get there.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Or if you're near. I mean, it's just a fun,
cute app to be aware of. And number three Spider Man.
Spider Man Brand New Day is coming to theaters later
in July. It's one of my biggest my name is
Peter Parker, biggest movies we have been waiting for all summer.
So like Cinemark and Regal Cinemas, they're all unveiling the
(21:49):
collectible cups and popcorn tins. There's even a comic inspired
blanket that you can buy on your way into the
theater if it's always cold in there. And you can
pre order this merch now on the company's websites.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
You're in the note three things to know Today.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
We know for Fourth of July cookouts and barbecues that
hot dogs are the number one choice for Americans probably
because of cost and because hey, it's a good excuse
to have a hot dog. Yeah, but if you're doing
burgers instead. The rules for making the perfect burger, Murphy's
got some listed part of our cool Summer Eat, said
Murphysalmonjody dot com. You really do have the best rules
(22:28):
for a burger, but there's one trick that you missed, Murphy.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Really butcher's across America.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Oh okay, well, I want to know how to enhance
it my and look, my idea came for my friend Dave.
Speaker 4 (22:38):
It's true, bo and he is serious about burger.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
This whole thing was don't overwork the meat. All salt
and pepper, that's it. By a good cut, that's where
you start.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Well, he's correct, butchers have said that too. The more
you work the meat, the tougher it gets. Don't overwork it.
Put it into a sweet little shape and get your
hands off of it.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
After that. It doesn't matter what it looks like. Don't
overwork it. And that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
The other like recommendations from butchers is that choose the
best beef you can, preferably grass fed or locally raised
fresh ground beef at eighty twenty is the fat ratio
you want. You want at least twenty percent fat, right,
because that's the flavor.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Yeah, it is, that's what. Yeah, Yeah, you're going for
the flavor.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
And the other thing though that I've never heard, certainly
not from you, Murphy, and I just wanted to run
this by you from butchers, is that if you want
a really great burger, take the patties out of the
fridge after you've not overworked them and let them sit
at room temp for twenty to thirty minutes before you
(23:44):
slap them on the grill or cook them. However, are
n't just supposed to there supposed to be rook? I
think so room temp instead of from cold to hot.
The meat will taste better if you bring it closer
to room temp. Now I know you're against that.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Well, I just don't like leaving raw meat sitting out
for an east in a period of time.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Murphy is sure he's going to die because of raw
meat are poison And.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
There's probably a chef that can explain this too. I
would love to know that, because I will try. I
just can't leave it out sitting on the counter for
fifteen or twenty minutes.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Temperature does matter with regards to all kinds of.
Speaker 5 (24:19):
Gorilla is going to kill all that bacteria it is.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Get guy, big Sam.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
I'm not trying to hurt your feelings here.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
Yeah, that's fine.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
But if that is across a lot of Butcher's surveyed,
and those were their top best burger recommendations, that means
that's happening when you when you order a burger in
a restaurant that you think is fantastic.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Potentially, I mean it's a probably high end restaurant. Maybe not,
you know, anyway, I doubt Siddy that's on the playbook
for most fast food restaurants.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
Those are right from the freezer grill.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
So anyway, get Murphy's how to Work the Best burger
are not overwork at Murphy Samonjodi dot Com part of
Cool Summer Eats.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Sam has Music News Next the.
Speaker 5 (24:59):
Twenty four hour broadcast that ABC and Disney are doing
for the fourth I'm going to tell you all about.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
It, Sam Scott, Music News.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
ABC, Disney, and ESPN. I know they're all the same company,
Yeah they are, but they got a massive, big undertaking
coming for July the fourth. You know, PBS is doing
their fireworks deal on Friday night, ABC and Disney they're
going to do for twenty four hours, starting on Friday
evening and going for twenty four hours. Fireworks No, well,
(25:29):
fireworks are in there, but that's going to work. On
Friday evening, They're going to start with an inside look
at the Statue of Liberty. David new York. He's going
to go in there and show you stuff you've never
seen before.
Speaker 4 (25:39):
Wonderful.
Speaker 5 (25:40):
And then at midnight they're going to go to the
Fourth of July Parade in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Yeah, now yeah, so,
and then I don't know what they're doing overnight, but
Saturday morning there's going to be a three hour Good
Morning America special. Oh nice, And then they're going to
go to something called GMA seven Wonders of America, and
they they're going to go all over the country to
all do different cities and cover different stuff that's going on.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
It is really something to celebrate, and I'm so glad
so many outlets are doing it.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Not just like free burgers here and there.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
We'll get to that, but it is something to celebrate
and patriotic, not political.
Speaker 5 (26:14):
Funny you bring up burgers. Because in the afternoon, ESPN
is there in the finals of Nathan's famous hot dog
eating content Joey chestnutt you know, expected to win that one.
And then finally Saturday night, Disney celebrates America Nashville Star
Spangled Bash with Tim McGrath, Barbecue Stain. Yeah, got brothers
Osbourne there, Lauren Daegel little Big Town. It's not all
(26:37):
country though, because Boys to Men's going to be there.
Nice also have Sublime, Neo is going to be there,
and mister Nick Jonas there you go. That's going to
be a live ABC ABC News Live. It's going to
be on all the Disney stuff there. And then also
Macy's is having their two hour Fourth of July Fireworks
(26:59):
spectacular on NBC. That one's gonna have Post Malone and
Blake Shelton just like this song here, Oh cool, Noah
Khan also Shaboozy beating Rexa and Salt and Peppa, So
I mean, pick whichever one you want. And also got
some Justin Bieber news for you about a possible tour.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
Oh good.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
He added a tab on his website. That's it that
it says tour. So nobody thought, oh, we're getting a tour. Yeah,
but his people say no, no, no, no, He's not
touring anytime soon.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
Then why I add the tab?
Speaker 1 (27:32):
I don't know. That didn't make sense.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
You know what, I'll ask Justin when I see him
this week right Coming up next, your Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
The Latest Buzz. Jody's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Speaking of nerd fandom, like we've been doing lately.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
I've got some Game of Thrones news that's very nerdy
but kind of cool.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
I don't know if you're much.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
You are much on props, Sam, because you are in
the Star Wars world. You have lightsabers in your home,
don't you? Okay?
Speaker 5 (28:02):
I have a Stormtrooper helmet anyone else?
Speaker 3 (28:05):
The original Game of Thrones dragon eggs that were featured
in season one that it was a gift to Denaris, remember,
and it was like in a wooden thing and then
she walked through the fire and ah, anyway, her babies
were born. Those are up for auction and expected to
fetch a ton of money. The original current price was
like is like twenty one thousand dollars, but they're going
(28:28):
to go for more. They're going to go for one
hundred thousand dollars. Somebody's gonna want to keep that.
Speaker 5 (28:32):
Is it just the egg shells since the dragon's hatched.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
It's just the eggshells from the prop from the show.
But somebody created that for the show.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
Yeah, you know, whoever gets the bragging rights to say,
you know what these, let me show you. Yeah, pause
it right.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
There, dragon eggs. So anyway, that's kind of cool and
going up for auction. The other news is that House
of the Dragon. You know, it was confirmed that this
show will end with its fourth season, the third in
playing now. Fourth season will be the finale finale, and
then we'll premiere in twenty.
Speaker 4 (29:05):
Eighteen twenty twenty eight.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Take us along with the family when it's convenient for you.
It's the Murphy, Sam and Jody podcast, the whole show,
every day after the show, and the weekend show podcast.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
One thing I find really curious with everybody bragging about
how big and strong AI is and how many wonderful
things you can use it for, there's one thing brag
about that. Well, I mean I just you. Every single
website you go to now it talks about use our
AI for this, Use our AI. It's everywhere. But the
one thing that still has not been fixed yet very
well is voice to text on a phone. Yeah, because
(29:41):
I still have issues with it. I had a huge
one this past week. It's not as embarrassing as the
one that for a few years ago. Remember I was
sending the note to somebody who is.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
In HR and you said, hey, sexy.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Well yeah, her name is Jackie. But that's what the
voice text turned it into.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Yeah, meanwhile, Jackie loves Murphy, yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
And you know. And then the other one, it was
something about getting something back in it that turned into bath.
It's like all the things that are wrong to send
to HR, this one wasn't. But this was just a
you know, a coworker that sent a note to We're
just talking about how you know this past week to
me was like being hit by a tsunami. And so
I typed the whole thing out and I hit send,
and then I realized what I sin said. I feel
(30:23):
like I've been hit by a salami. That's what the
voice to text turned it into. And I think I
was speaking clearly. Now, Jodi says a lot of times,
what will happen is I'm talking too fast in voice
to text, can't really pick that up.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
The thing about it, though, is we've had that come
from you so many times, or at least me, But
you know, I can translate it. I can read the
paragraph and go, Okay, I know what he's saying. Yeah, yeah,
you know what words got screwed up and what he
was trying.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
I can tell when Murphy has texted you, and voice
to text you can absolutely tell. But I do think
that when you are voice to texting or when you're
speaking to a speaker, when you're speaking to AI, you
need to speak like this. You're probably right, and not
the way you order it the drive through the way
Murphy orders it the drive through, especially if you're gonna
(31:09):
be speaking to AI at drive through is coming soon,
which you probably are already. Murphy is more casual at
the drive through. You know, it's like a social interaction him.
It's like, hey, so I'll have and it's it gets
it wrong. You need towards right. I would like a
cheese burger. It's how you need to do.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
But at some point they're going to have to make
it smart enough where we don't have to over enunciate, right,
I mean, isn't the point get that though, because it
makes you sound funny, I will take the number one.
Speaker 4 (31:39):
I mean, you get your order right, Well, that's right,
sexy
