Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy Salmon Jody Daily Show Podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Social media connect join us all the ways.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
It's a brand new week, and we read and see
every single comment and question that rolls into TikTok and
YouTube and Facebook and Instagram, even Murphy Samonjeddie dot com.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Yeah, last week, Jody, you mentioned that thrift stores have
very specific types of books that they wanted, really seven
different types.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Of books, seven that they wish you they wish.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
You would donate all the time, and then there's something
they wish you would avoid. Jennifer says regarding second book
second hand bookstores. My oldest son loved getting his reading
books for school from the second hand bookstore near us
because they were usually sold by previous students at his school,
and often they came with the notes that his teacher
gave him already written in Aha. That is kind of
(00:49):
a benefit. I mean I remember buying some of my
college books that way too, where there were things already highlighted.
I mean, I'd go rehighlight whatever I needed to, but
I liked that.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
I picked up one of my favorite novels one time
and I had already read it and it was a
tattered old copy and I just picked it up to go, Hi,
that's Prodigal Summer by Barbara King's aalber by the way,
and it was somebody had done annotating in it, and
it was like, oh wow, look at all these notes.
Someone had done that book like in a class with
a with an instructor. And I got more out of
(01:19):
it because there was stuff in the in the notes.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
There were notes.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
Don't need to go to class.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
So that's cool, Jennifer.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Actually, I want to restate it for you that the
seven types of books that thrift stores wish we would
donate because they can turn around and sell them quickly.
They say they can current novels, current. Fifthly, you just
finished a brand new book, give it to them. It'll
fly off their shelves. Cookbooks on the list, long, you know,
more modern, the better, self help books Yay, Murph classics
(01:47):
for the reason that you know, if your kid needs
to read it, you don't need to buy a brand
new one. Children's books, coffee table books, and bibles in
good condition.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
I got to keep them on early, keep them while
for this week from Barb here, Hey Barb, she can't
wait till Wednesday for this when Barb said she wrecked
her motorcycle Saturday. Oh, somebody was mowing their grass onto
the street. I hit it. But my wow is that
Jesus was riding with me and I'm only bruised with
some road rash because stupid me didn't wear my jacket.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Oh, road rash is a thing I guess.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Buddy, always damaged either.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Yeah, yeah, you have. My dad always said wear jeans
were long. He would always wear jeans and long sleeves
no matter what time you he As he got older,
he started to fudge that a little bit. He would
do short sleeves, but he always wore jeans, never shorts.
Because yeah, it's the same reason. You probably should wear
gloves and you should always wear a helmet. Same thing. Sure, yeah,
you never know.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Thank you, Jin and happy for you.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Barb.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Join us anytime.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Coming up with six fifty, Jody has three things to
note today.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Coming up next, it's springs. You know what's on the
move all the animals do? You guys know how to
bring this up sometimes in the spring about turtles being
on the move. It's not just turtles. I bring it
up for a real reason, I know, because give me
it's true that there are more animal vehicle crashes at
(03:09):
this time of the year because here we are, you know,
moving on, flying down the street.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Not so much a crash as a.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
You know, Okay, it's still a crash for I.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Mean, depending on the size of the animal, it could
be a crash.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
I was leaving for work the other morning and I
was just reminded because two little baby bunnies hopped in
front of my car, and of course I slowed down
from wish Tom Well. They were so cute and murphy
they were babies. I thought, there's one, there's two. Anyway,
animals are on the move, not just turtles at this
(03:47):
time of the year. Spring is that it's it's the
time they are looking for food, they are looking to mate,
they're doing all the things they are supposed to do,
which is why it's beautiful. You see them more. But
turtles get on the move too, rabbits, all the things, raccoons, everything,
bird that you see more bird activity too. I saw
a dead bird on the side of the road the
(04:08):
other night. I mean a big one. It was definitely
hit by a car.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Yeah, I've had that happen before. It's that freaks you
out when.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
That happens so sad.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
It's longer daylight hours, it's warmer temperatures, and they're looking
to eat. They're hungry and they're ready to mate. Is
why you know they're single.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
And looking to mingle.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Yeah, you guys remember the rule about turtles though. If
you decide to help a turtle across the street, that's
the only one you get what you really want to
get involved in because they're so slow.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
You remember the rules.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
I do, but I think we need to focus on
the safety rules in addition to which are equally as important.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
It's true, don't stop.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
I mean, I know, don't turn the turtle in the
direction the other way or it'll confuse.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Right, it needs to go in there. If you move
change its direction, you're going to ruin its life.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
But to me, rule number one is if there are
cars behind it in front of you and it's a
two lane highway, don't stop. I mean seriously, But it's
your safety is more important than the mistake that I
see some people make unfortunately. And I know you try
to avoid hitting an animal at all costs, and we should,
but it's when somebody crosses a center line into oncoming traffic. Again,
(05:16):
you know. I mean it's so there is a human
safety component. You want to get so hyper focused when.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
You're on a country road and you can help a turtle,
I think that you should.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Yeah. Coming up next, Jody has your Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Jody's Hollywood Outsider. I've got some Hugh Jackman news. You
didn't see coming.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Ladies, And this is the moment you've waited for.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
He will be singing, but he is giving the commencement
speech at the Ball State University graduation next month.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Isn't that cool? And it's like, why it's scratching?
Speaker 3 (05:50):
So his partner, her name is Sutton Foster, is an
instructor there at the theater department.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
It was an easy conversation and he showed.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Up like last fall all to you know, he visited
and spoke to them about theater and they're like, oh, Jackman,
everybody loved him to pieces.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
They're giving him.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
An honorary arts degree as well, and so he's going
to be the speaker.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
I wonder if he's gonna wear the wolverine costume.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
You kind of like it when.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
It's somebody like that giving giving the commencement speech, you
always kind of want to watch it.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
And see what they have to say. So look for
that in May.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Maybe we'll get some maybe he'll he'll do some special
theater stuff for it. Also wanted to shout this out
actor Noah Wiley, who has a huge hit TV show
in his hands right.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Now, The Pit, And so it begins.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Remember him from Er.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Remember he's always been on medical shows, but there was
a time when he wasn't working as much and now
he's got the hit show, The Pit. He got his
star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame the other day.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
That's cool, he says.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
He used to stand there and walk put his feet
on other celebrities stars and say the words someday, and
it happened for him.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Coming up next, Sam has music News and.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
We're starting a new week with new music from Lady
Gaga and from Teddy Swims.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Sam's got music news.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Last week we got another trailer for The Devil Wears
Prada too, and it had a little snippet in there
of this new Lady Gaga DOCI song called Runway.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
I'm ready.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
Well, now we get to hear the whole song because
it has dropped.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
I'm feeling I'm feeling free, i feel exceptional, I'm so
excited for this movie.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
Something you're not.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
I'm telling you Gaga belongs in this movie. Can't Wait.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
By the way, it was co written by Gaga and
Docie with a little help from one Bruno Marsay that wins.
The movie will be coming out in May the first.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Also, I'll be there on the opening day over the weekend.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Teddy Swims was that Coachella, but he also dropped a
new song on us too. Now don't be confused with
the title because it's got the same title as a
Kelly Clarkson song. It's called Mister Know It All.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
It's a good title for sure, and that's I wouldn't
have guessed that that was him.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Really, it's a more polished.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Yeah, right, exactly. It's not as run soulful.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Maybe that's the wrong word, but you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
It's a little clubbish. It's nice, uh and we may now,
speaking of new music, get to hear new music from
Britney Spears soon because Madonna wants Brittany to collaborate with
her on her new album that she's recording right now.
Madonna's got the new album. She wants Brittany to come
on for a song. Brittany hasn't responded to her. She's
asked her, Brittany, no word yet. If you remember back
(08:32):
in two thousand and three they did me against the music.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
I did. I don't remember that.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
I can't say that I remember that either, But look forgetful. Yeah, well,
return that call even if you don't want to do it.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Well, what's funny is in her memoir, the memoir The
Woman and Me, she actually called Madonna a mentor. So
it's like, okay, if your mentor is calling and wants
you to jump in on it, get on that, okay.
And the ACM, the Academy of Country Music, they've announced
their nominations for the awards that are coming up May seventeenth.
The Ladies leading away this time, the most nominations going
(09:12):
to Megan Maroney as she got nine nominations. Coming in
right behind her with eight that would be Miranda Lamberts.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
And seven stay empty.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
If you're wondering about well, where's Laney, Well Laney and
Ella Langley both had seven nominations.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
That's big coming up next. Three things to know Today.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Three things to know Today, Number one were.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
Being told by the oil experts the oil industry experts
and as they call them, the oil nerds, that fill
up your tank while you can, because the prediction is
that prices for gas will spike again by the end
of this week. That is when the last of the
Middle Eastern oil shipments will make it to the US
and Europe. And after that they think those countries will get,
you know, into bidding war for everybody else's oil supply.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
I got idea how much that spike's going to be.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Don't have that those numbers yet, but you know, if
you have a chance to fill up, maybe early in
the week, do it. Number two, we told you last
week about the American Girl Doll Company bringing back the
og historical dolls with the old clothing and the books
and the stories. And it's not just for the fortieth
anniversary for grown ups to buy them and collect. They
(10:26):
really created them to teach eight year olds. How to
you know, to teach them about history while playing Who's
buying a Millennials? Thirty year olds buying them like this
is my emotional nostalgic support doll. And Number three, Britney
Spears apparently checks herself into rehab. The word is she
(10:47):
volunteered to do it after many close to her have
been very worried about her all year, but especially after
the DUI arrest in California last month. No idea how
long she'll be there, but it's usually what a typical
thirty day at least there, and she also is doing
court for a hearing about that arrest on May fourth.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
You're up to date. Three things to know today.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Sam's always up on the new eats. He's the food dude.
Speaker 4 (11:13):
Little Debbie is cooking up something new in your kitchen
for us, something she's never done before. Cookies.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Oh what really?
Speaker 4 (11:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Well, I mean, aren't aren't the cookies with just cream
in between them? Right now?
Speaker 4 (11:25):
Those are snack kids?
Speaker 2 (11:26):
These are called oh I thought pies.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
So even the oatmeal cream pie is considered a cake,
not a cookie.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
What's a pie?
Speaker 2 (11:33):
It's a pie?
Speaker 1 (11:34):
But what's bridging it on either side? To me?
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Meal cookies?
Speaker 1 (11:38):
It's like one of the happiest oatmeal cookies on the
world the world.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
The cookie, by the way, the two cookies that they're
putting out their sat their soft bake cookies. They're doing
chocolate chip and peanut butter. Okay, okay, but looking at
a picture of it, Murphy you know you mentioned the
oatmeal cookie. It looks like they just took an oatmeal
cream pie. It looks like they just took something like
the same size, and that's what the cookie.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Is going to make sense?
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Make it?
Speaker 3 (12:00):
Know?
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Why not exactly the.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
Cookie, So look for those in stores soon. I have
a new snack from Nabisco. They're called crispers. Okay, now,
maybe if you have visited Canada you have seen these
before because they were a Canadian thing from Nobisco. But
now they're bringing them here.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
They remind me of snap.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yeah. In fact, it's almost like that's exactly what it is,
because they're baked, not.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
For us snapped or like yeah I can't.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
Yeah, we got some problem three flavors barbecue, ranch and
dill pickle. And we have a new cheese and flavor
too limited time only that's going to be hitting stores
Cheesy garlic bread.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Speaking of snaps, even though those aren't snapped.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
Romano and parmesan cheese on that baby.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
Shoot.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Many choices of snacks.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
Here's something for the old lunch box from Philadelphia Cream Cheese.
It's little snack packs basically that you can stick in
your lunch box, bring it to work. It's got cream
flavored cream cheese, but it it also has what you're
sticking in the cream cheese, like the garlic and herb
has pretzels. Yes, the Buffalo style has tortilla chips, and
the brown sugar and cinnamon has a little gram cracker sticks.
(13:04):
That's so it's all self contained for.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
You, refrigerated or.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Of course, Murphy, if it's cream cheese, I would assume.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
If it's yeah, you got to put it in the
lunchbox with a cold pack.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Or a non crustable Yeah. And for the first time
in seventy five years, Pace Peccati Sauce is giving us
a new sauce. I didn't realize they've gone that long,
Chipotle pecad sauce.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
And if you're concerned about the heat, it's medium level,
not mild, not hot right there in the middle.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
It's good stuff, all right, Thank you, food dude.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Coming up at seven fifty, Jodi has three things to
note today and next your morning pick me up.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
If you're about to be studying for finals, what music
will help you retain the information? Best morning pick me
up time students, If you are studying for finals anytime soon,
or even if you're just studying for a quiz. There
is a study aid that's been around forever and it
(14:00):
is a sure thing. It works every single time according
to many studies. Haha, but just over and over again,
and that is using classical music to help you study.
There's so much to say here. Well, first of all,
it's pretty easily accessible. Most of us can if you
have a device, if you have you know speakers, you
(14:20):
can get it.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yeah, okay, Well most of it was written so long ago.
It's all public domain, so a lot of.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Academic studies have zeroed in on classical music specifically. It
doesn't necessarily work for pop, it doesn't work for country,
for rock.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
It works for classical music.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
That it really benefits your brain, which is why it's
good for studying. It benefits your sleep patterns, and your
immune systems, and your stress system and your stress levels
so everything. So one of the studies I'm going to
break it down for you, students who listen listen to
a one hour lecture, but classical music played while they
(14:56):
were listening, they scored significantly higher than stud it's on
the quizzes about the lecture than the students who'd listen
to the exact same one without classical music.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
That makes sense to me. It's supposed to activate brain centers.
I actually use it when I'm working sometimes through projects
for the same reason.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
It puts students in a naturally heightened emotional state, making
you more receptive to the information. So if you're trying
to memorize stuff and study for an exam, classical music
can only help you.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
They say, for young children who listen to.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
An hour of it a day, just while they're playing,
if they're just discovering legos or whatever, put classical music
on and they get better at it, and they also
their mood improves.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
Makes total sense.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
It's therapy.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Look out though, because every time they zero in on
classical music for studying, skip over the over dramatic pieces
with the big booms.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
It can't be stressful.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
It makes sense. That makes total sense.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Use piano solos, mozart, things like that, Claude Debusy. Choose
the things that are naturally sort of relaxing, and it
literally makes your brain more of a sponge.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
This is a study that has been done so many
times over decades now. Obviously it works. If every study
continues to point to the same thing. Coming up next,
Jody has another Hollywood Outsider trending now, Jody's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
You know, with all this talk about the new Harry
Potter series coming to HBO later this year, and many
of us are excited because it's in series form instead
of movie forms, so every book is a season. It's
going to be fantastic. The casting looks incredible. But one
character we've not talked about, which is hugely important. We
(16:44):
need to be terrified, and that is Voldemort's.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
No join me and confront your fame.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
We all talked about the guy who's playing Dumbledore and
the kids being cast in snape, but we've not talked
about this and he was played made famously in the
movies by Raife Fines, the actor who's incredible. By the way,
his name looks like Ralph, but it's Raife. So he
did some press late last week. Did you hear what
(17:12):
he said, Ray Fines did?
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Yeah, he said that you know, the time has passed
for him to pick that wand back up again.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
He wouldn't do it again. He's put that behind him.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
But he did suggest and he heard rumors that the
iconic actress Tilda Swinton had been mentioned. We don't have
confirmation on that. We've also heard that Killian Murphy's name
was mentioned to be Voldemort.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Oh wow, yeah, you could see that. You could see that.
We don't have confirmation.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
We don't know Whovoldemort's going to be yet, but we
know he makes an appearance in the first book.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
A little bit excited, just a little huh coming up
your email and comments from our website.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
Single ladies, how to feel safe on a first date?
And look, I know that single men need to feel
safe as well. Espcially if you watch true crime, you need.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
You never know what's going to happen.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
But for the most part, we think about women.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
Women think about their own safety more than you guys realize,
and single women especially, you're really you're not just taking
a chance with your heart when you're dating. You're taking
a chance when you are dating in lots of different areas.
So we had done a podcast on it, We posted
about it and Tammy said, this, just don't go. It's
scary out there. You couldn't pay me to start over.
But honestly, let a family member or close friend know
(18:31):
your whereabouts, make sure you drive separate cars, go to
a popular spot where there are people, be alert, look
for red flags. Also, one more thing, never turn your
back on your food or drink.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
That's something we are taught.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
I don't know if you know, boys growing up are
taught that when you go into like a big club
or any sort of social setting. But you're taught that
as a as a girl, and it stays with you,
hopefully for your whole adult life. You know, sab the
true things that women do have to think about. So
thank you Tammy for that. Moving on to something lovely
from the weekend. Check out our Instagram, our Facebook, and
(19:13):
our TikTok for Sam's pizza oven.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Love affair. Okay, love affair.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Yeah, so the pizza, the pizza spinning in that pizza
oven that you've got out outside.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yeah, it is pretty amazing to look at.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Yeah, and you saw the aftermath.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
It's also gorgeous and says you really are the food dude.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
And it looks like you make a mean pizza too. Yum.
Carrie wants to know how often you do that?
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Every week or two? Yeah, it's pretty regular. Couple times
a month for sure.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
And always you're on fresh pizza. Do you don't just
stick a pizza out there?
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Well, no, I don't, but I do do frozen pizzas
in the oven amaziness every now, and it's like, I
don't feel like the whole spiel.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
So sure, it's a process.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
I've always wondered for the for those who have outdoor
pizza oven, whether it's ovens, whether it's like an oonie
or something else, do you do anything else in it?
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Because you can do things out there.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
You can do stuff in it that I've liked it
for pizza, Okay, thank you, remember like little flat breads.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
You can do all sorts of variations.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
You know, if you have a pizza oven and you
do something other than pizza, let us know eight seven
seven three one zero four MSJ.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Coming up next, Jody has three things to know Today.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
Three things to know Today.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Number one, the four person crew of NASA's Artemis two
mission returned home safely on Friday after their ten day
journey around the moon, the first lunar mission in more
than fifty years, and they splashed down and everything was well.
NASA called it a textbook landing. You saw that, the
commander said. On Saturday, when they made their appearance in Houston,
(20:50):
the commander said that it was the most special thing
that will ever happen in my life.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
That hasn't happened in fifty years. So yeah, I'd say
it's pretty special.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Two parents are putting because you can, you know, sort
of like getting their real time health data on their
babies fit bits and things like that, to trackt their breathing,
to track their heartbeat and all of that. And the
FDA is warning this is it's not really approved for
monitoring baby's health just because you can do it on
your watch.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
So don't let that.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Be you know, the real true story of what's going
on with your baby, and it could turn you into
an obsessive parent. So FDA warning, talk to your pediatrician
about what you should be tracking on your babies and infants.
And number three Rory McElroy rallied to win the twenty
twenty six Masters yesterday.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Free is a rare repeat winner at a cut stop.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
It's his second consecutive. He finished twelve under par, one
stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler a tense final round and
it gives him what he's just He's his six major
title and.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
One afford to win the Masters back to back.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Right, It's only a few of those.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
You're up to date day things to know today?
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Do you ever sometimes wonder if you have an unnatural
attachment to your device or problem with being addicted even
the word addicted.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
You mean this thing I can't put down right now.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
And when you say device you mean smartphone.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
I do phone Because so much of our lives are here.
We all sort of have to be to be productive,
to be good employees and all of that.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
It is how we live.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
However, there are a lot of us walking around with
a very unnatural attachment to it.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
So the red flags are by the way to either
of you. Feel it?
Speaker 4 (22:37):
Oh, yeah, I feel it?
Speaker 2 (22:38):
You do, Sam?
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (22:39):
And at times I put it down. I feel anxious
at first, like, oh but what if an email comes in?
Or maybe I should have it here in case somebody
texts me.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
You ever gone without it for a while to see
what it feels like it used to be?
Speaker 4 (22:51):
Is fifteen minutes a while?
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Nope?
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Okay, the whole afternoon, a whole day. No, it can
be done.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
I know it can be done. People do it. There's
that feeling when you start doing it, but then everyone
says after a short period, I mean.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
It's really the thing is there's only one person that
control it, Sam, Yeah, that's yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Yeah. Do you feel like you have an a natural
attachment to yours Murphy, because you are if.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
I'm in it, Yes, I do. But I when I
finally when it clicks with me, it's like, okay, all right,
it's you know, I mean, it's just I'm starting to
get better at the own little mental time or that.
If it's not work related or something and I don't
need to be continuing, then I just put it down
and there's a whole lot more peace that comes with
that when you do that.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Pick up a book, like if you're trying to really
limit your own self with it, they say, find other things.
You don't just doom scroll in your free time, but
pick up a book or go for a walk or
something that's not attached to it to see how you
really that's you have to.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
I mean, even watching your favorite show is still not
looking at you know, yeah, you're not doing the dual
screen thing.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
So the red flags of maybe you have a problem
if you have an automatic relationship with it, If you're
talking to a friend and your phone buzzes and you
can't keep talking to your friend and let it be.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
You might have an issue with it meaning.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
I'm good there, I'm good. That's not a problem.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
That's good.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
If you have trouble focusing without it, like when you
do it, let's just say, I'll leave it and I
go out in the hall and speak to someone. Do
I feel lost without it? Has it become a part
of your psyche?
Speaker 1 (24:16):
I think it's different if you drive and you leave
it at home, that's one thing. If it's just in
another room, you know.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Making keep starting and leaving.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
The shouldn't be making it shouldn't be if when you're bored,
it's the first thing you pick up.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
Oh yeah, if it's the time that whole time filler
thing and you look all around you you see that,
that's a really common thing.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Yeah, but it's funny. It's because it's the way we
are now. We all have to be connected that way.
So it's something to start paying attention to.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
Coming up, Jody has another Hollywood Outsider, Guess what I
learned about chickens this weekend.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
I don't know why they cross the road. Yeah, Sam,
oh that.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
Would be the obvious.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
You didn't like that.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
I learned the chickens can be aggressive.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
Oh yeah, my friend Randy had when he had chickens. Yeah,
if they get upset, they're coming after you.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
I should have asked country girl here. Yeah, I didn't
pack you.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
My son Will and his wife Caroline. You know, they
have chickens. Yes, they have four chickens, and they bought
another group of chickens and this past week they they
kind of started introducing them to each other.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
They rocked their world, is what they did.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
Well.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
No, he told me that you can't just put the
younger chickens in with the older chickens because the older
chickens will attack because they have to. You know, there's bullying,
there's fighting and murphy. This is not a joke, but
they have to establish a new pecking order, right.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
I believe that's actually where the phrase comes from them.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
Yeah, that's now some cool farmer years ago who made
that up.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
What a coincidence?
Speaker 3 (25:47):
Actually a cool farmer who knew it happened and explained it.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
Yeah. So he has his eight new chickens or seven
new chickens, like in a small pin pen next to
the chicken run where the big chickens are. Yes, and
they have like a fan it's between they can.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
See each other snipping each other.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
Get familiar with each other before they introduce everybody together.
I didn't know that went on because he said they'll fight,
they'll kill each other.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Yeah, you know how I know, because you got chicken.
My family just put them all together. And then we
saw some disturbing things early on in our you know,
farming days.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
Well that was back before the internet.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Oh right, that could have saved us all.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
Well will Google, didn't you know? And so that's how
they separated them.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Yeah, what do you know why he wanted more than four? Like,
why add chickens eggs?
Speaker 4 (26:35):
It's not for the like, oh wow, chickens are wonderful.
It's because of the eggs.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
They really are. They loving having this many fresh eggs
going on.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
The new chickens aren't old enough you have to start
doing the laying eggs, so they're still dealing with the
eggs from the other four chickens. And I don't think
the output was quite up to what they thought it
would be. So they bought more chickens to get the
egg output output.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Okay, after all of that, who's in charge?
Speaker 4 (27:01):
Well, I haven't mingled them yet, so the oh they
haven't mingled. Now they're just able to see each other.
Right now, nobody is touching each other.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
So does the pecking order still occur even after they've
seen each other?
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (27:11):
I think more so, really, more so, guys coming up
next your Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
Jody's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
Fans of the Hunger Game series got excited again. Maybe
get the kids reading this series again because we have
the Hunger Games Sunrise on the reap and got the
first little preview of it.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Indeed, time figin.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
It's beautiful and it brings you back into this world.
It's all you know, look back because this is a
reaping that takes place twenty four years before the Catnus saga. Okay,
and this is the fiftieth Hunger Games where a young
hay Mitch participates.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
Glenn closes in this.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
You're keeping up with us, Murphy?
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Oh yeah, I try and done. Now, this is hard
to follow even if you read the Hunger Games. But
I do have to say, when I think back to
all the you too, Sam, young adult novels that you
would dig into and read, The Hunger.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Games is great.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Yeah, And it's a fast read and you can really
get into it. When it's over, You're sad that you're
not there anymore.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
So since hay Mitch is involved, is whatdy Harrelson back
for this one?
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Watch the trailer?
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Oh and that will I would rather you watch the
trailer and get that answer, naturally. But maya Hawk is
in this one movie Kieran Culkin el Fanning and.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
It looks absolutely beautiful.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
So the new preview trailer is available in this one.
In this film in theaters November twentieth. If you still
read on an older kindle, you might be one of
the many Amazon Kindle owners who's upset with Amazon right now.
We mentioned it in Three Things to Note last week
that you have till May twentieth before you your kindle
(29:00):
is going to be like a coaster. Now you didn't
you say you had no, no no. If you have an
older model, Amazon says the models have eighteen years of
support and the hardware and the security are two outdated.
They're offering discounts for an upgrade Sam, So that's a
good piece of news for you. But if it's a
twelve thousand, I'm sorry. If it's a twenty twelve or
(29:21):
you know, older, you're not gonna be able to update it.
You're not going to load stuff and download stuff and
use it anymore.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Yeah. Yeah, we had to get rid of yours a
while back, Jody, and I don't remember what year that
one was because it was the third one that you had.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
I'm not a danger of this because I've been hard
on kindles and I broke a couple.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
But you've got the paper kindle right now, which which
is really awesome. I don't know how actual paper. Yeah,
I don't know how old that one is. It's older.
But the color one that we used to have, you know,
it was just basically was a coaster then, you know.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Yeah, but yours. Do you even read on a kindle anymore?
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Though?
Speaker 4 (29:56):
Now ever since I started audiobooks, I don't read on
a candle.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
I mean it's there, and it's basically the size of
a coaster because it's a small one. So now I
have this for it. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
So that's the word from Amazon.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
They know that people are upset if you've got old kindles,
and a lot of the reason that people still love
their older kindles is because they were simple and distraction
try the new ones are like getting a little notepad.
I'm sorry, it's like a little laptop almost, and it's like,
that's not what I want when reading, So I'm thinking
we'll read a book. But the paper ones like the
one I have, they do sell. They do still sell
(30:28):
updated new models that look like you're reading on paper.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
Even though they are more laptop like, they're really more
notebook like because of stylists and things that you can write.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
On what I meant.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
But what I do love that they have changed about
them is they all have that sort of paper like
lead the field. The color one now is what they
call a softer, you know color look. So they all
the newer versions of Kindle. Maybe they're trying to get
away from the whole device looks like a you know,
a laptop screen or whatever, and go with that soft
reader type look. It looks alretty cool. The new models
(31:01):
look cool
