Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy Salmon Choty Weekend Show podcast, highlighting
some of our favorite moments from this past week.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Before you go shopping to buy new frames for your face,
you know you're supposed to know your face shape, that
there are certain frames that compliment certain face shapes. Are
you guys aware of that?

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (00:20):
I mean you need bigger like for me, my I
think not because of my fat head. I needed a
lighter and I also needed longer arms to reach my ears.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
You do have a big head. I wouldn't call it
a fat head, but.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
That's what my mom calls it.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Well, your mom said that nearly killed her at birth, right.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
Yeah, Yeah, here's a fun story here we go.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yeah, Okay.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
The reason I bring up the glasses in the face
shape and all of that, I was lucky enough to
be the one to take our oldest daughter tailor shopping
for her first ever pair of glasses. She has never
had to wear glasses in her life. She just went
to the eye doctor and she does need a prescription glass.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Which way, it's four distance for driving at night, but
it's actually it's caused by computer screens and the intensity
of it because she's been doing so much coursework for
her masters that they say that that's impacting part of it.
But it's really, I guess, technically near it's technically near sightedness.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
So when we arrive together, I take her shopping the
same place I buy my glasses. I'm hoping we get
the really super helpful, like fun person, and we didn't.
We got someone who barely spoke to us. And I'm
thinking this is her first time and she's not gonna
want to listen to me. But the whole face shape thing.
I even asked her, do you know that you're supposed
to really buy them to compliment your face shape? And

(01:36):
she was like okay, And I said, you know what
your face shape is, don't you. She's like, no, she
has the same shape as me, which is a heart
shape face. It's like pointed at the end.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Oh wait a second, no heart shaped face. Go ahead, Murphy,
No no, no, it's.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Not like yes, well you all are hard, Jody, thank you, Sam.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
There's oval, there's round, there's square, there's diamond, and then
there's heart. So the problem was as soon as I
realize that's her face shape, because people tell us we
have the same face shape. Yeah, all the time, I'm
her mother. She does not want the same sort of
thing as I'm rocking, of course, so I just stayed
out of it completely, and she picked out and she
kept going back to this one pair, very dynamic pair

(02:17):
that are really really cool, and those are the ones
that she chose. But you know, it was just funny
because I realized, and who do you think she called
and facetimed while we were there to get ideas her.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Dad, her boyfriend, her sister phones, Okay, do you want
any help from the salesperson from me?

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Phoebe is one of those that she's kind of She
really loves the outlandish glasses. When I say that dynamic statement,
that's the wrong word, re statement dynamic. I wish I
could pull that off. I just don't think I can. Yeah,
you know, every time I've tried, Jody's always like, let's
stick to the standards.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Sam's got music news.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Hey, we all know who Benson Boone is, Right, of course,
I've got But did you know that Benson Boone was
once on American Idol?

Speaker 2 (03:02):
I did not.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
I didn't know it either. It came up this week
Monday Night on American Idol.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
It was a duet he did five years ago when
he was on the show. It hadn't been aired before,
but he did a duet of a song by Lauren Daegel.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
You want to hear it? Yes, here we go. I
would love.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
You for the thing you see stall I think guy.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Too.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Yeah, he did.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
That's pretty. It's scripted. It's the scripted singing sound. And
he screaming in that one. No.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Well, and he didn't have the mustache then. And here's
what Katie Perry said, I like to see.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
American Idol and I see you that. I see you
winning American Idol if.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
You wanted, well, well, well here's what happened.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
He won a lot more than American Idol.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
It did get sent on to Hollywood Week, but he
decided later on to pull out of the competition.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
He wasn't voted out.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Yeah, And the reason they showed that this week is
that the person he do edited with, Mary Joe Young,
is back on the show.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
That she's combining again.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
She got kicked off then because she forgot the lyrics
to the song we were saying. But she's back on
there now and they're like, hey, I remember when you
were here five years ago.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
My guinness so they did that.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
Pit Bull and his fans, they're trying to set a
Guinness World record.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
I'll help, I love I.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Think you would enjoy doing this. I don't know if
you've seen.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Videos of this, but people that go to Pitbull concerts,
the fans sometimes they wear the bald cap I know it.
So he's doing Hyde Park in Britain coming up in July.
So they're going to try to break a Guinness World
record of the most people in bald caps showing up
at this concert.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
It'll happen. It'll happen to the pit.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
And pit Bull is all about it. By the way,
Kesha is going to be joining in. Yes, And if
for any reason you want to go, Garth Brooks, Lewis, Capaldi,
Maroon five and Mumford and Sons also going to be
at Hyde Park this summer.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Cap well, you know.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
What, why not support the pit?

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Yeah? Who knows that little eighties flashback for you from Tapow.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
I used to blare this in my room and I
loved it.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Number four in nineteen eighty seven.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Well, guess what to Paul is back because.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Because their kids are grown up, they're back and they
got back together about ten years ago. Put out an
album and they've done nothing since, but they decided, you
know what, it's now's the time.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Eighties acts are hot. Let's get out there, sweet.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
I don't know about you, moms and dads, but I
always thought it was really fun to name a baby.
I love I love it when there's a new baby
coming and everybody's thinking about a name.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
It's fun, I guess, until you know couples disagree, because
that happened sometimes too, you know, can happen.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
We never disagreed.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
We didn't, Judie and we got lucky. We both were
girls and we were in alignment.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
And your daughter Madeline, what a beautiful name. Yes, And
a lot of times names get chosen from pop culture
and even more so music. So let's just go to
an old classic. Okay, this name has been popular since
this song came out. How many Carolines do you know that?

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (06:04):
My parents loved that song. I know a few. Caroline
who's daughter in law?

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Who's a Caroline?

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Is that right where they got it?

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Maybe?

Speaker 2 (06:11):
So? Also, thanks to Eric Clapton, we have a lot
of Laylah's spell it anyway you like, that's a great name. Also,
remember apparently and this is this one is still ever
popular Selena. You see trends, you know, in names and
from pop culture. It is a beautiful name, and sometimes

(06:34):
it's the name that's you know, in the song, or
sometimes it's the artist. A current one is Gabriella. It's
a beautiful name already, and then you put it to
song and you can't stop singing it. If you are pregnant,
expecting a girl that is coming into your head, they say,
because that's a hit, expect maybe you know a bomp

(06:57):
in babies being named Gabrielle in months?

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Was that hot too during high school musical days Troy
and Gabrielle.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
I'm sure it probably was.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Maybe so we also have seen over the last fifteen
twenty years more Adele's.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
I only know one Adele who's not Adele the single?
Oh yeah, it's our friend Libby's sister in law.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Oh right. Is Adele considered an older name?

Speaker 1 (07:25):
I think it's just a classy it's a.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Classic name, but as we all know, older classic names
come back. Also, Sabrina is popular again, culo sassy name.
And whether the name Taylor is popular or not, she
Taylor Swift has brought a lot of names. In fact,
we're seeing some aphelias oh in hospitals, opa LTEs and

(07:49):
aphilias right now. A lot of Taylor, It's true. For boys,
it's more like cash has always been popular thanks to
Johnny Cash and Jagger is also high.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
On the list.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Music really does influence everything. Most women have shapewear. You know,
when I was a little girl, my grandmother wore a girdle,
and I remember.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
It's the original.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Well probably way before that would be a course courset,
thank you, tie it in the bag, fucking in. But
shapewear has come a long way, and you can buy
shapewear almost anywhere now. Like I'm rolling into Walmart to
pick up coffee and I'm checking a detour. It's like
there's shapewear and it looks good.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Is that surprising?

Speaker 2 (08:36):
No? I love I love that there's a million kinds.
But guess what. You can make mistakes with shapewear, just
like you can with any fashion. We all have mistakes
hanging in our closet. So the biggest mistakes that women
make with shapewear, I guess men who wear it too.
Assuming that it shouldn't be called shapewere, it should be
called smooth war because the point is to smooth things out.

(08:57):
It's not gonna actually change. If you are a sign ten,
you're not gonna be an eight because of shapewear. Just
you can't. And so don't buy a smaller size.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
Well that makes sense to me. That's like squeezing a balloon, right,
I mean, yeah, it's gonna move, it's gonna go somewhere.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
It's gonna come out at the top of your dress.
If your waist is perfect and you don't want to yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
I'll admit I have a shapewear shirt.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Good And let's hear about it. Did you buy the
right never warn it? Why not?

Speaker 3 (09:22):
I haven't needed it yet. I'm saving it for a date.
But when I it on, it does swim a little
or smooth a little, But it doesn't.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Eliminate all the natural body unless you're eighteen years old
and you are you know, anomaly. The natural body has moved,
you know, has bulges and gravity. Yeah, yeah, so it
smooths things out. But you should buy it in your size.
You should try Here's another thing. Don't just buy it
and bring it home. Try it on with the outfit,

(09:55):
like with the gown that you're gonna wear it with
or the dress so that you know it, because you
don't want it bulging and pinching in places that show,
oh she's got shape wear on there. You know you're
not really supposed to be.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
It can actually show the shapewear show.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
You're wearing it incorrectly. Yeah, because you see the little
you can see the places.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
To make sure you try it on with your gown, please.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
I did.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Another Another mistake that people make with shapewear is it's
not meant for prolonged use. You're not supposed to wear
it for days.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
You're not supposed.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
To sleep well. Hopefully you can breathe in it.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
It's a different kind of feeling.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
It's a different kind of you know what I like
about it helps? It makes me sit up more straight. Yeah,
I'm gonna wear I never.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Put it on. Maybe I should try it sometimes.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
You would not probably enjoy it. The main thing is
having unrealistic expectations. It does not make you a size smaller.
It does smooth out and hopefully kind of it sort
of sucks you in a bit, but by your size
or higher. Don't go lower, all right, Jody.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
A little earlier you were telling us about your trip
with your daughter, your oldest daughter tailor to head over
to and buy some glasses, some new glasses.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
Glasses and yeah she picked out some cute frames.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Yeah. Well I had to get glasses last year.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
These were like out of my I guess comfort zone.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
They're clear.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
They're clear because my glasses have always been practical.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
You know, you know, which is funny since you're such
a zany guy.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
I know.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
And so this time when I went and got them,
I thought, I haven't had glasses in a long time.
Why not get something that not necessarily makes a statement
but stands.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
Out a little different.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
And when I first tried them, it was like, I'm
gonna stick with these, but I'm not sure this is
for me. They grow on you, Yes, it becomes part
of your look. Now. I mean I'm speaking for myself,
but now I'm the guy with the clear glasses.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Good for you, And if you ever change it again,
then people will immediately notice. It's so funny how people
detect patterns and changes.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
You know. I will say not that you ever ask,
and you shouldn't. You should feel comfortable and using anything
you want for yourself. But these are my favorite glasses.
You've ever worn. They look right on you, they're better,
they go with everything, and they fit your personality better
good than anything else you've ever worn.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
Most of that is what I was shooting for, and
we're actually pretty much all of that because I didn't
want to just like be the old Yeah, just give
me the standard wire rim frames.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
And when taking Taylor, I knew not to give her
much advice because she has she has her own style anyway,
and it was really fun. But there's so much to know.
You don't have to buy glasses based on your face shape.
You can buy whatever you feel like you want to rock,
but if you want real balance, they say that's a
good place to start. Frames that compliment your face shape.

(12:40):
Also with is very important. They should match the width
of your face, aligning with your temples. Your eyes need
to be centered within the lens, which is that's for
the people selling them to. You need to make sure
it's right in the center. All of that matters. Yeah,
the nosebridge thing matters, and I want to that's.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
A really good point because some styles don't don't work
with the prescription that you have, Like Jody's saying, if
you're if the bulls eye part you know how they
put the dot on your glasses is not right there
in the middle, then you're not going to get the
correction that you need. And I've encountered that a few times.
Jody's told me, up, those are two big Murphyn't.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Remember you buying anything wild or crazy, Murphy. I think
you look good in glasses too. You look around. It's
almost like most people are wearing glasses, and I love it.
They give you added style if you rock them right.
Microcations really are a thing. I know it sounds like
a made up word. I know, Sammy, you get frustrated

(13:38):
with everything. Have a new word.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
It used to be a long weekend.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
Yeah yeah, Wait is that what a microcation?

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Microcation is when you have a long weekend and go away. Well,
not just a day. A microcation is a few days
off and a few days away.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
I guess you're right. It is a new name for
something around forever.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
For example, over you know President's Day, one of our
coworkers eight went on a He said it was a
long weekend Jody with his family. I guess he went
on a micropap.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
He went with his family. That's a micro vacation. But
The cool thing about it is really think about that
your vacation does not have to be a whole week
or two and some major, you know trip that is
super expensive and far away and takes you completely out
of the game. Microcations I hear myself saying sorry work

(14:25):
for a lot of reasons because it's a quick escape,
but it doesn't completely disrupt your whole routine, right, Okay,
it's you can take time off work for shorter periods.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Well, and you know what I do like, I know
we're making fun of the fact that it's its own name,
but sometimes naming something different makes it feel more special,
doesn't it. It's not just a long weekend. It's a microcation.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Actually, it also helps you understand what it is. It's
a small mini vacation.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Don't you Would you get more excited about a microcation,
sam than a long weekend or is it all the
same to you?

Speaker 4 (14:56):
You know, long weekends sounds great. Whenever I hear we
go a long weekend, I know what.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
That means micro vacation because the word vacation is exciting
to me. But it's micro so you know, it's easier
you take one day off of word. Let's say you
take a Friday off and then if you naturally build
it into a holiday with your company on a Monday weekend,
you have a micro case.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
We have a four day weekend.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
But anyway, the word is we're getting more savvy about
doing this using our time off smartly. You don't necessarily
go too far away because you don't want to travel
to and from to you know, dig into your time away.
So it needs to be somewhere near or somewhere you
can get quickly and get back quickly.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
You mean like a day trip exactly a day trip
for a long weekend. O.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
The other thing is it's a micro long weekend, whatever
you want to call it. You don't really necessarily need
a big reset from it some you know, sometimes when
you've you've gone away for a week or two, re
entry can be buying from the vacation right. You just
get right back into it. So plans on microcations this.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
Year are long weekends.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Murphy, There's something I want to do at the house,
and I know you want to object. I hope you
don't make fun of it along with Sam here, but
I want to do something we've never done before in
all of our years of being dog owners. I want
to throw a birthday party for champ dog birthday parties birthday.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Yeah, that's just that is sweet. I never thought about that.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Okay, I realized it's February. We got him in February
of twenty seventeen, and we rescued him, he rescued us.
We determined along with the vet, that he was four
years old then, so that makes him do the matter.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
He's almost thirteen.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
He's almost thirteen years old, and you and I have
both changes in him recently.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Yeah, he is. And that's why I'm hoping he'll be
awake for his birthday party because sleep a lot, you know.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
So what do you do at a dog birthday party?

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Whatever you want?

Speaker 3 (17:04):
I mean, there's no pen, the tail on the donkey
or any of that stuff.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
No, I don't even think I can get him to
keep a hat on his sweet little head.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
You've got a couple of games you get played Chase
the kiddy cat dog gave.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Yeah, your mom can bring the cats.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
You could bring your cats out.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Oh yeah, do you want to share like the pictures?
We can do. But you know all of the photos
we've had over the years of him on the hub.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Yes, because there's so many sweet photos of him when
he did not have any you know, gray on his face,
and now his face is so there's so much white there,
you know, and he's just so He's changed so so much,
but he still has the heart of a puppy. But
we just love him so much. Taylor and Phoebe, they'll
be invited. I'll they'll invite their boyfriends. I feel like
we'll have little treats for everybody, but he I want

(17:47):
him to have a safe for a dog, little birthday cake,
and I want him to be able to eat it.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
Are you inviting other dogs?

Speaker 2 (17:54):
No, he doesn't like that. I mean, Sparky'll be there.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
On his sidekick. Well, you know what, I think that's sweet, Jody.
You only have to change over his face as he's
become quite gassy, so we should be careful about the kid.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
I knew you were going to do that shape cake.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
It's a pento bean cake.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Yeah, help it. I don't know what's going on, but
he does sleep thirteen hours a day. You know, he
makes a lot of noises lately. I'm hoping, we're hoping
he's not uncomfortable and all of that, but not only
just want to make him very comfortable in his old age.
I want to celebrate him.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
He was.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
He was literally our favorite rescue ever, which is saying
a lot. He still is. I hope he lives a
long long time. But he is thirteen years old and
the day, the day his life started was with us
in February of twenty seventeen. Right, so it's his birthday
this month.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
Are you going to have a sparky birthday party too?

Speaker 1 (18:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Can he just enjoys Champ's party.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Jody's Top five entertainment stories of the Week, Number five.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Actress Maya Hawk, who you may know for I'm Stranger
Things as Robin Rock and Robin. She got married. It
was a surprise ceremony. I mean not to her family.
Her family and friends knew or to her in New
York City on Valentine's Day in Manhattan. She's the daughter
of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. They were there, of course,
and then some of her Stranger Things friends. Joe Kerey

(19:18):
was there, Finn Wilford was there, Sadie Sink in the
house for her wedding. She married a musician, Christian Lee Hudson.
So she's married now number four, Bad Bunny moving from
music to Hollywood. He is just signed on to star
in as a leading man in a movie called Puerto Rico.

(19:39):
It's an epic Puerto Rican Western, they're saying, and they're saying,
the storyline is like the kind of epic film like
that we really latch on, latch onto in America, like
The Godfather or Gangs of New York. So he'll be
starring alongside Javier bardein Vigo Mortensen Edward Norton. And this
is his first.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Ever starring James.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
He's done some other act I me. He was in
like Happy Gilmore too, and he's done SNL many times,
but this is a leading man role. Number three Taylor
Swift lends her voice and music to a promo for
Team the Team USA Skaters. When you can skate like
you're meant to be out there. History has a funny
way of showing up. And nobody knew this was going

(20:20):
to happen. It's the night before they skated. I'm friends.
They call themselves the Blade Angels. Anyway, they competed and
Taylor Swift did that. It was lovely. She hasn't done
that since, I think for Simone Biles a couple of
years back. Number two Miley Cyrus letting the world know
she will be a part of the upcoming Hannah Montana
twentieth Anniversary Special.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
One of the kind of tough to do it without her.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Huh. I'm saying they're calling the calling it the anniversary,
and she's like, look, this meant a lot to me.
I'm thankful for it. You know, it made me who
I am. And she's going to be a part of it.
It's gonna be filmed in front of a live studio
audience with all these interviews. Hannah Montana twentieth Anniversary Special
will be on Disney Plutch Plus March twenty fourth. Number one.

(21:08):
The first fuel trailer for the Mandalorian and Grogu is
here and it looks incredible.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
He never touch the buttons.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
There you go, Adro Pascal under the helmet, facing off
against the huts.

Speaker 3 (21:23):
Some information for this price, I'll tell you whatever you want.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
I'm looking for a hot close.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
It looks incredible, as Martin Scorsese's.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Right, blending the old Star Wars look and feel with
today's modern technology. Check out the trailer if you missed it,
and it'll be in theaters May twenty second.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
Jody's top five entertainment stories of the week.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
Social media connect.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
Emails, rolling into Murphy, Samon Jody dot com, and messages
messages on social This is from Megan. Hi, Meggie, Dear
Jody and Murphy. How do you not constantly rack up
at Sam's side comments and jokes?

Speaker 1 (22:03):
Actually we do?

Speaker 2 (22:05):
What do you think? We're so happy? Almost every day
there is something that Sam slips in that has me
giggling and messing up my makeup while getting ready, and
you guys move on like it's nothing cow She says,
how love you guys from Megan. You know that is
so sweet, and you're right. I guess we do sort

(22:27):
of move on because we have to. But you do
crack us up every day, and I am grateful for it.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
You know.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
It's funny about what Meghan says. It's like, we will
do something and I'll slip one of those singers in,
and She's right. There are times where y'all just keep
going carrying on and then when we go back and
like watch the video of it. Yeah, I guess we
should have done that during the show recently.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Just the other day, You're like five second delay. You know,
sometimes it happens that way. But you know, we don't
take you for granted.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
I will say that I think our brains are un
fast forward sometimes.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Yeah, we're used to you, for sure, But I don't
think I'll take you for granted. Because I don't, I
can't tell you I'm glad. Megan sent this how many times?
And I'm not trying to embarrass you, Sam, but how
many times I've thought, at the end of the day,
I'm so glad that we laugh as much as we do,
and we all make each other laugh. But Sam, you're
the king of it.

Speaker 4 (23:23):
Yeah, and it's not just you guys either. I mean,
I think it's because I can't keep my mouth shut
with that kind of stuff, that it's just so much
that you can't. Yeah, because it happens with family members
and friends.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
They're always throwing something out.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
Yeah, it's always. I mean, since day one that I
met you, that's exactly what has been. It's been. It's
been a riot.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Don't think we don't sometimes just laugh at home and
have little side combos about here what Sam said.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
Yeah, it used to really irritate my first wife. She
used to say, why don't you marry Sam.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
I heard that one.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
Then Laura sent this. Hey Murphy, Sam, and Jody, I'm
the bus driver who emailed you about how I listened
to the show every morning with the kids. Jody, I
made the cabbage roll soup and it's the best recipe
I've ever had for it. High school students begged me
to bring some, but I don't think that would be
clean on the bus. It would be too messy. Also,

(24:18):
the second part of this email is for Sam. I
hope you find a rescue dog soon. Oh yeah, and
thanks Murphy, Sam and Jody for keeping a smile on
my face truly. Laura C. Bus driver number twelve.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
Well, thank you, Laura.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
Morning pick me up time? And instead of just like
an inspiring story, how about a pick you up when
you're in a funk. Things that you can do. We
can all benefit from knowing what to do when you're
in a funk. You're gonna get in a funk in life,
I mean sometimes it lasts for days, hopefully not. But
little things that you can do, Oky, how the works

(24:53):
for me me too.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
Sometimes you shouldn't spend a bunch of money that could
make a situation worse.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
You know, Actually, Yeah, it's that's putting a band aid.
That's not what's really We're not going to recommend retail therapy,
although I do love it too.

Speaker 3 (25:07):
Fun.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Okay, putting screens away is on the list, you know,
not digging in and going into rabbit holes on a screen.
That's also a band aid. Here's one that you'll like.
Murphy did this the other day and was remarking about
how good it felt. Decluttering one small space.

Speaker 1 (25:24):
Oh yeah, the top of my dresser was just awful,
because you know, anything you use every day eventually starts
to clutter up, and it's crazy how cathartic it is.
It's like clean space again. Yeah, top of dressers?

Speaker 3 (25:37):
Did it make you want to do more and you're
just like, ah, that's enough for now.

Speaker 1 (25:40):
Yeah. I did the nightstand right a frenzy.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
It was good though, because that was right before you
were packing for this trip that you're on, and I
thought that was really good. I didn't understand why there
was a tool there were tools involved. At one point
he was doing up in his closet or above your dresser.
There was some sort of well I.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
Was installing hooks.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
That's okay, So I was a little bit more than
while you're supposed to be.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
So. But ways to get out of a funk that
actually work. Putting screens away, we mentioned decluttering one small space.
Do a brain dump journaling session, meaning just write a
bunch of stuff out, get it out of your body
and your heart, put it on page.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
You know. That doesn't even have to be full sentences either,
they say. Sometimes it's just like a couple of words
because journal.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
I mean sometimes if you're not really into the whole
long form thing, it can be a little fatiguing and
then you don't want to do it. But just a
couple of bullets to get it out of your brain
is helpful.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
Okay. Other ways to beat get yourself out of a
funk and beat it to play some upbeat music. Put
your earbuds in, I mean like this.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
The top man Ellen does it every time.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
Oh cool, connect with someone, take a nature walk. And
then the final recommendation is do one of those reset
sensory showers, like a dark shower, or just take a
hot shower.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
And you can't do that, the reset of just breathe
and count three times helps.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
I may have gotten into a little trouble asking my
grandson Hollis to do something for me. Hollis and his
mom and dad, Sammy and Melissa, they're all in New
York right now, New York City, and I'm dog sitting
there dog Django. But before they left, I told Hollis,
I said, look, because Elf, he loves Elf, the movie. Yeah,

(27:29):
And I said, you know that's seen in Elf where
he's peeling the gum off the.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
Rail in Times Square. Yes, it's like, y'all get some gum,
I said, and pretend to do that.

Speaker 4 (27:39):
I want to see you pretend to do, you know,
with his own gum, not pulling the real gum.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Well he's putting it on.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
No, he can fake and not do it. I told
him from understand that Sammy, my son, was there, and
I told.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
Him so I think I'm mortified with Sammy.

Speaker 4 (27:52):
Sammy's like, yeah, fuh so, I'm hoping. I'm really hoping
they do that. They've sent sure is it's snowing that
they're playing in the snow. They went to the Natural
History Museum.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
Oh, that's the greatest.

Speaker 4 (28:06):
They had watched a night at the museum before they went. Nice,
so it's okay.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
We were there.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
So they went there and I got videos of this
giant whale and dinosaurs. They're supposed to do Statue of
Liberty and all that fun stuff, but.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
It's so fantastic do this, just do this.

Speaker 1 (28:20):
Gum thing, you know, for fun, you know, when you're
a kid like that. I guess really at any age,
anytime you've seen something in movies and a place that
you've never been and then you finally get to go,
is the most exciting thing in the world. Yeah, although
it always looks a little bit.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Different, it always looks smaller. They're like, oh, this is
just a place.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
Allow, Manhattan doesn't really look small. It's when you see
everything is.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
When you only visit New York City every once in
a while, it is always to me all inspiring. But
if you live there, you still love it. You'll say
it's the greatest city in the world. But how many
of us, how what percentage of people say I couldn't
live there that it's just there's almost too much going
on at all times. Yeah, you know, if you're not

(29:06):
used to that, it's a completely different vibe. That's why
it's an exciting go hang it out, you know, being
inspired by it.

Speaker 4 (29:12):
The first time I went, I remember being it the
only time I've gone.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
It's just with us, that's yeah. The buildings are just all.

Speaker 4 (29:19):
So close to get It's Wall Street. Yeah, it's just like,
oh claustrophobia.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
Towering chrome, steel and concrete.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Yeah. Greatest city in the world.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
So I'll let you know if I get a holicating
gum video.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
Kay, Sam, we're telling you last week. I think it
was about how to turn your home or how to
make your home smell like a luxury hotel. You know,
when you walk into like a Weston or a Ritz Carlton,
they have their own scent customized for them by these
high dollar fragrance houses, and they.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
Smell so much better than you can find at a store.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
They do, and you know what, how brilliant because it
makes you feel like you want to be there, and
if it's consistent, it's like, man, I want I want
to say here. It's so smart. I know you said
you looked it up once you were at a hotel
years ago and you were trying to buy it. The scent.

Speaker 4 (30:06):
Yeah, they are very expensive and in order to have
the scent work, you got to have a diffuser to
go with it.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
Yeah, they're cold air diffusers. It's a very difference like
a dry vapor technology.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
So for an example here, if you want to want
the Hilton scent, which is called white Tea in time,
the company that makes it and sells it, it's fifty bucks.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
The wallflowers that bath and body works are three ninety five.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
But you have to have that vessel full.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
So if you want the entire bullet, you know, the
big twenty seven ounce refilled bottle, it's two hundred and
twenty nine.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
Dollars exactly, and you're just so fill one room, think
about how expensive it is for them to fill their
entire space that way. Mainly it's in their lobbies. I
understand when you first walk in, that envelops you, and
that's what where I'm taking you this they sent profile.
It's not like that's so heavy in the rooms, but
it is like that in the lobbies. And that's how

(31:00):
you should think about scent profiling your home for living areas.
You should have warm, inviting scents, the kind that hotels have.
That's like sandal wood, it's like cedar, it's like amber.
White tea is a very big When Bergamott is mentioned
a lot for a lot of hotels have that, it
ish For bedrooms, you are looking for relaxing, calming sense

(31:22):
like lavender, white tea again, cam and mill.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
And keep in mind, for every one of these that
you're adding.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
On dollars, yes, chee, you have to have are.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
In the living room. You have to have a diffuser
in the bedroom. For bathrooms, you want some another diffuser.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
Clean and fresh, they say, like, citrus is really popular
in bathrooms. I think in kitchens too, I think citrus.
And for home offices, Murphy, don't you want to know
something energizing and bright or mental? Citrus again? And peppermint
is popular.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
Oh yeah, peppermint is one of those that really works
on the mind. Yeah. I love that.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
We need to get some of that for your home,
Mom of here,
