Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy Salmon Jody Daily Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Andrea has sent us a message, and this one's for
you Murphy. Okay, what is this man retreat Murphy is
going on?
Speaker 3 (00:11):
And what will Jody be doing while he's gone.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
That's a juicy one, Andrea Murphy, would you like to
start with your respectful man in retreat.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
This is something I started doing, I guess five years
ago now, and I had never actually gone and done
anything like this, you know, by myself on a weekend
because I guess the girls had to get older first.
I would have not done this probably when the girls
were younger, but you know, they're in college doing their
own thing, and so I decided that I needed to
take at least one weekend out of the year where
(00:41):
I stop and I focus on what's really important to
me and what are my long term goals. That way,
I'm just not going through the motions every single day,
which is live. It's a habit most people do, you know.
I mean, it's what we do, our our lives, have
a routine to it, and then we look up on
all of a sudden years or whatever have gone by,
and you know, you really do have to be deliberate
about what you want your goals to be, and so
(01:01):
it's part that, but I've also learned over time I
need to pace myself through it so that it actually
is therapeutic too, and not just because I'd come back
after the first when I came back exhausted on that
mone but.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
I had all these ideas and you came back with
all these wonderful notes. When you say man retreat, I
mean I think people picture, you know, fishing in the morning.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
It's not I mean, I don't know that I would
call it a man retreat. It's just as a retreat.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
It's a man retreat, right, and there you define what
you do with that. But I know the reason that
you do it. You're a very motivated person. You're a
very introspective, thoughtful person. So you go take stock of
your life. And you the first time you did it,
you came back and you said, okay, my health, Yeah,
I am going to start doing this doctor appointment and
I'm going to start, you know, and I think that
is really beautiful.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
It's kind of like, of all.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
The things you work on, you decided to start working
on yourself and you needed to take a good look
at yourself to do that.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, where the script flipped for me is now the
top five things on my list of goals are personal.
They're not there. It was all I've been so career
focused my entire life. That would have been the top
five would have all been. You know, career doesn't mean
the others aren't important. But if you don't actually say
health is first, then you're not going to act like
help first.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Right, So what are you doing on the weekend?
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Then? Oh, Andrea, that's the question. When Murphy has a
retreat weekend, it ends up being a retreat for me too.
Anything that's different, not that I want you out, it's
just like I'm.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
We see each other every single day.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Yeah, I get the house to myself all weekend. I
could go with girlfriends, I could go away. I could
stay in and.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Do a what do they call that?
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Nothing, No, a silent retreat. I don't know yet, but
I'm going to tell you what. It's just an exciting
proposition for me too. So as the week goes on,
I'll we'll let you know our plan, all right.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Jody has three things to note today. Coming up in
six fifty and next, Sam's the.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Food Dude, McDonald's is releasing a new menu that's going
to save you some bucks.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
Sam's always up on the new eats. He's the food dude.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
McDonald's is going to be rolling out a new value
menu next month.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Oh, another one, don't they always have one?
Speaker 5 (03:07):
Yeah, I thought i'd check their website. They have a
Mcvalue menu five dollars meals. I've also got this buy one,
get one for a dollar thing, like you buy a biscuit,
you get one for a buck.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
As far as I remember, they were the original value meal,
probably the first to do it.
Speaker 5 (03:21):
They have the extra Value meal still, you know the
grown up deals. That's right, this is the Mick Value meal.
In fact, this one they're rolling out next month is
going to be called MC Value two point zero items
for three dollars or less and breakfast new breakfast meal
deals for four dollars or less, so you can get
a breakfast meal, you.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Know, responding to the economy.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Yeah, so that'll be rolling out next month.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
Snoop Dogg's got a new snack and it's only available
at Costco. Oh, you know he's rolled out cereal, he's
rolled out ice cream. Well, he's fine, he's partnered. Oh, Yeah,
with Martha. He partnered with the folks at Wrap Snacks,
And so we're getting Snoop Dogg kettle chips cool, okay,
as our health conscious three flavors, sour cream, cheddar, and
ranch all in which is the everything chip, and maple barbecue.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Why did I think he was part of that business
to start with?
Speaker 5 (04:09):
I think he was because I think he popped up
on some of the little snack bags. Yeah, this is
all going to be a Snoop only line though, Okay.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
There were snack bags in Walmart with Snoop on them.
I know I bought some of the kids.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
These kettle chips, he says, are gluten free, no artificial ingredients,
no trans fats, no added sugars, and one hundred percent
avocado oil.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Snoop.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
We're gonna study him.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
We're going to eventually study him his rise in our culture,
his influence, and his entrepreneur ship.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
And he is very entrepreneurs And like I said, those
are only available are only going to be available at Costco.
And speaking of which, there's a new dessert at Costco,
the Chorro Caramel Sunday two ninety nine ice cream. You
get your flavor of ice cream topped with salted caramel
sauce and crunchy little.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Chero bites like a stick of a churro in there
no crunchy little too. Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
You just have to scan your card first, your ID?
You remember you have?
Speaker 5 (05:00):
Yeah, you have to be a Remember those of us
who are not a member, we shall never get to
enjoy it.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Are you go with a friend?
Speaker 4 (05:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (05:06):
And Heineken is introduced. Get this a new zero calorie
non alcoholic beer, zero alcohol, zero calories, zero sugar. It's
called Heineken zero point zero Ultimate.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Whoa And you guys still not trust that it's it
has no alcohol.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
I'm not gonna say I don't trust. I don't want
the triggering effect.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Got it? Okay? Coming up next, your Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 6 (05:31):
Trending Now Jody's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Let's take you to the Academy Awards last night long
show You Have a Life here at the updates. Conan
O'Brien hosted for the second time, and he did this
cold open at you know, at first, where he's like
running through all of the Best Picture nominees with a
wig too. He was dressed as Aunt Gladys from Weapons Okay,
(05:55):
you had to know the movies to get there. Anyway,
he came right out in the talk's looking great with jokes.
Speaker 7 (06:00):
I am Conan O'Brien, and I'm honored to be the
last human host of the Academy Award.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Yeah, okay next year.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
So then he you know, they always do this where
you sort of look at who's in the crowd, look
at who's in the front row. You know, all the
big names and faces are there, And so he made
one that was directly related to some controversy with Timothy Schallomy.
Speaker 7 (06:25):
Security is extremely tight tonight. I just got to mention that, Yeah,
I'm told there's concerns about attacks from both the opera
and ballet communities.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
I mean, that was what last week that this old
footage of love came out saying something about those being
lost to arts.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
So that was time, Lee, and well done.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
So the big, big winner of the night, We're gonna
get to it later in the show of course for you.
One battle after another one Best Picture. They led the
night with six wins, including Best Director and Cinematography, but
sinners also came to play.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Coming up next proof that there is some good in
social media.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Spend some time with us.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
When it's convenient for you later in the day or wherever.
Carpool even it's the Murphy, Sam and Jody Daily Show podcast.
There's also a bonus every day. It's called after the Show.
Speaker 7 (07:18):
You know.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
I know whenever we talk about social media, at times
we talk about the endless brain rot that you can
find on there, the stuff that really waste your time,
that you can get lost.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
In rabbit holes.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
Yeah, and the nonsense and the lies and all that stuff.
But I want to sit here and talk about a
good thing on social media.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Okay, Sam.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
And that's between my kids and me.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
We like to share social media memes or so content
we find on there with each other.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Ye.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
Now, obviously when we're in person we talk to each other,
but it's a way for us to stay connected. Yeah,
when we're not always connected. Like Mattie sent me a
TikTok the other day and the first line and it
is the only man a girl can pend on, you know.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Oh Man, were you on the floor?
Speaker 5 (08:05):
Yeah? And I was like, oh, thank you.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
No.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
And it's just all these movie scenes cut together of
daddies and daughters. Oh sweet, what Yeah, Parker and I
we share Star Wars stuff, you know, like the Star
Wars sound effects, how those were created. We come across
a lot of those all the time and it's like, look,
look remember that scene. This is how they made this.
And even I know we were just talking about Lord
of the Rings. Yeah, Parker and I have watched that one.
(08:31):
So we share those things. There was an AI created
one where Bilbo the Hobbit had the ring okay, and
he went into pond store pawn Stars to try to
sell it.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
You know, it's.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Goofy, but it's like, oh, Parker, ha ha. Yeah, it's
a way for.
Speaker 5 (08:45):
Me and the kids to stay connected and to stay relatable,
and you know.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
That's supposed to be what it is.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
That's what it's supposed to be, a way to connect socially,
and lately it has felt if you get lost in
the rabbit holes.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
It feels more like media and less like social.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Well, I mean yeah, there's definitely that side that you
can get sucked into and you're way down.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
How you use it.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
You come across one of these and it's like, oh,
oh Phoebe, Yeah, Phoebe would love this. Yeah, like that,
we do that.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
You can also do that here, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok.
However you want to share things with us.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Coming up next. Three things to know Today.
Speaker 6 (09:24):
Three things to know today.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Number one, the Energy Secretary said yesterday that the US
Israel war with Iran should come to an end within
the next few weeks, possibly sooner. And we're all concerned
not just in the US but in the world with
the oil and gas prices. He said that, you know,
we do know that the barrel price went up to
one hundred dollars a barrel again again recently. And there
(09:48):
are other countries that rely heavily on this oil too,
so they are going to come in as part of
the process as well to end it. Number two, it's
maybe boring to talk about the weather, but across the
US this a mixed bag of weather issues going on.
A blizzard in the upper Midwest, wildfriars across the plains,
tornado threats moving across the east. We know that there's
(10:10):
flooding in Hawaii, of course, and then triple digit temps
in the Southwest. So one hundred million Americans in the
path of severe weather today alone. And number three, the
scene is set for the NCAA men's basketball Tournament Michigan.
Following in the finals of the Big Ten Tournament, they
still got the top seed in the Midwest. Defending champs
(10:32):
Florida got the number one seed despite losing to Vanderbilt
in the semifinals, and then the other two number one seeds,
Duke in the East and Arizona in the West.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Tournament play begins tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (10:44):
You're up to date. Three things to know today.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Have you ever heard a phrase?
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Someone drop a phrase or even like a sentence on
you and you know what it means, but you've never.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Heard it before.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
What do you mean, arase?
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Okay, I'm just gonna tell you mine, and once I
say it, you'll know. I'm sure you've had it in
the corporate world, Murphy, You're like, you hear something about
bandwidth and you know what it means.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
Okay, yeah, bandwidth, This the amount that somebody's able to do.
But that's not important right now.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Good for you. So the other day I took our
youngest daughter, Phoebe pants shopping. She needs some new pants.
I'm like, I'm your girl. Let's go pants shopping. I said,
let's pick where you want to go. We'll go any store.
She said, let's start kind of gritty and let's go
thrifting first. I'm like, yeah, girl, let's do it. And
on the way there, we're having a nice mom daughter conversation.
We're going to one of our favorite places to thrift,
(11:37):
and I said, what's cool about starting here is that
we could stock up, like you could get jeans and
slacks and all this kind of stuff. And she, being
the old school, old soul that she is, she said, yeah, Mom,
but you know you got to be careful of that
thrifting blindness. And I was like, as soon as she
said those two words, I'm like, I knew exactly what
(11:59):
she meant.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
I don't know what that means.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
It means you're thrifting and you'll say yes to stuff
just because it's five dollars that you would never buy.
And that's how you end up with too much stuff
if you thrift a lot.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
That makes sense. When I started getting on the vinyl
kick a couple of years ago, again, I mean it
was I started to realize vinyl blindness. The reason I
got rid of my original vinyl collection was because of
it takes up so much room. It's all of that.
So I just dialed it back to the things that
I want. But that's easy to do. You get excited
because you think, well, there's only one of these because
it's thrifted. It's not like there's ten of them on
(12:35):
the shelf.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Right, you think that there's you're never gonna have the
chance to have this again.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
And that's true.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
And it's five dollars or seven dollars and you're like nothing,
and she's as soon as she said it now, she
did go on to explain that's how you end up
with too much stuff.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Or you'll say yes to stuff that you really are
not in love with.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
You won't yeah pass it won't pass all the tests,
the normal test you would put it through in your
mind if you were buying at retail. True, I know,
thank you Phoebes for introducing me to the new term
thrifting blindness so that I don't overthrift.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
And by the way, she only bought like two three things.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
I was going to ask how much?
Speaker 2 (13:10):
What was the hall? Very few? She got like one
pair of pants and she got two shirts. We were
pants shopping, so she thrifting absolutely not.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Coming up at seven fifty, Jody has three things to
note today and next your morning picked me.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Up Morning, Picked me up time.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
There is this beautiful viral video that's gone viral.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
That's what would make it a viral video.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
Gets the title.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Anyway, Look, I want to say this for moms and children. Kids,
if you're listening right now, your parents would do anything
for you when they say they do anything for you.
Your parents would lie down in front of a train
for you if they could. Okay, and I say this.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Because of this, this is not really good recommended.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
No matter of speech.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
There's a California mother who sort of made news recently
because of what she did for her three year old daughter.
So Ruby had long, long hair her daughter when she
was one, her name, the daughter's name is Laurai was
diagnosed with alopecia, no hair, no hair growth. And so
(14:13):
now Laurali is three years old and started asking about
wanting to have hair like Disney princesses.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
Mom has long, gorgeous hair.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
So mom worked with a group, an organization called Hair
with a Cause and they specialize in wigs for people
experiencing medical hair loss, which is what Laurali is experiencing.
And so the video you can go see it at
Murphy Samon Jody dot com if you want to of
mom of actually the wig being created, because it's created
(14:44):
with real hair. So Mom's real long hair. She cut
it off, she gave it to this organization. They created
a wig with her real hair, and so the little girl,
Laura Lai, And.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
That's also in the video her putting the wig.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
On for the first time, playing in it, you know.
And it's not like she's gonna wear it on the
regular for years.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
You know, she's three.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
She's gonna take it off sometimes because she's also probably
very used to and accustomed to, you know, not having
any hair. I have a friend I don't see her
very often. She works at a spa that I sometimes,
you know, go into and out of whose son.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Has alopecia and he is growing.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
I want to say he's upper elementary now as far
as age goes. He plays baseball. It does not bother him.
When his friends ask him about it, he says, yeah,
I've got this. I'm not gonna have hair whatever.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Yeah, And it's.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
She's the one, she says, I'm the one with the
problem with it. I'm the one that worries about his
everyday experience with it.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Yeah, because it's her child.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Correct she'll always feel that way. But anyway, go see
the video. It's the morning pick me up.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Coming up next, Jody has your Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
Trending now. Jody's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Kenan O'Brien hosted the Academy Awards last night for the
second time. And if you know Conan's comedy, he does skits,
and so he's seems very serious as he begins one
of them.
Speaker 7 (16:06):
I'm always so impressed by how gracious the winners are.
It's refreshing to see all this modesty and genuine humility.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
So then he starts here, here's what he does.
Speaker 7 (16:23):
I don't know if I could do that if it
were me, and I was up for an Oscar.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Yeah, and so he of course it goes into him
winning an Academy Awards, standing up, getting a crown put
on his head in the big cape and he looks
like a king. And he goes up on stage and
who joins him but Josh Grobin.
Speaker 8 (16:44):
His Oscar wind has been fainting. My god, it's the greageous.
Just shuck out that good and he didn't miss himself,
and he's grateful.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Tune.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
None, even the haters can't hate.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
That is a live performance by Josh Groban that nobody
knew what's happening and it was so funny. Leave it
to Conin to take a bit an idea that far
like this. Go back and watch it if you missed it.
The stage was full of this kingdom. It looked like
royalty up there.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
He got on the mountain. The bird came in with
his oscar.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
So coming up next, there's a new baby in our
family and we gathered around him like that, like we've
never seen a baby before. Hosted a family party yesterday
and it was the first look. It was coffee and
I had you know, Danish, and I had fruit, but
it was about none of that.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
We had mopped the.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Floor, like there was about none of that, and I'm
so glad I mopped. We'll get to that why, the
reason why. But it was about the baby, the new
baby in the family who's not really new. He's six
months old, but we haven't gotten the love on him yet.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Yeah, it's the first time we got to meet, you know.
So it's my sister's first grandchild.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
His name is Sawyer. What a great little name.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
When they you know, you wouldn't high everybody, but when
the when the parents get there with the baby and
they're carrying him in the little seat, you can't. You're like,
he's beautiful. His skin smells incredible, his skin is perfection,
He's gorgeous. I got to hold him first. I don't
know how I got so lucky.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
But ladies first. That's why.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
The reason I'm glad you know that we I had
mopped the floor Murphy is because after a while we
all held him, he didn't need to be put down.
Everybody got a chance to hold in love on him.
But at some point his dad Asa wanted to put
him tummy time on the floor and brought you know,
had brought his like a pad.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Blank Everybody had been passing him around for almost an hour,
so yeah, by that point he was ready to do
some crawling on his own.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
So we put that down.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
I put another blanket underneath it for cushioning, and then
his baby blanket. And he he's he's flipping over and
he's reaching for things and all of that. But I
was so glad that the floor is super super clean,
because you know, we have dogs.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
Yeah, but the dogs.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Out, Yes, they did fine. Our dogs are old.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Yeah, they're just kind of they they knew to leave
them alone.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
You know, they were curious. But then they're like, okay,
over with, let me go back to sleep. But the
interesting thing, Murphy, did you notice that? I definitely notice,
as you know forever mom is the schedule, the feeding schedule.
Like he was getting fussy towards the end of the
visit and it was about time for him to eat. Yeah,
and his mom, Kristen was like, no, let's hold off,
(19:35):
hold him off ten more minutes. They are on such
a feeding schedule because they're you know, you remember when
I heard her say that. I remember trying to manage
life with sleep schedules and feeding schedules and just being
you know, true to it. So she waited ten more
minutes until he got that bottle.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
That's when that's when you go from you know, the
sweet smell and all the things are like I remember
the just remember this, and then you remember the schedules
and the wake up shirly and all that. Yeah, coming
up next. Three things to know today.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
Here's three things to know today.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Number One, for TSA agents working without pay, it's about
fifty thousand officers affected and unscheduled absences.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
It's doubled since the shutdown.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
The government shutdown began, three hundred employees have left the agencies.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
The agency.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
The CEOs of American Airlines Delta United sending a letter
to Congress calling this situation simply unacceptable, and they're urging
lawmakers to pass legislation that would keep TSA workers paid
during any future such shutdowns.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
And I think we all like that idea.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Number two, more than one hundred and fifty passengers and
crew aboard the Star Princess crews that just came back Saturday.
It was an eight day Caribbean voyage. They got very
sick Nora virus, four guests and forty nine crew members
having symptoms while they were and it's the response plan
is crazy. They did all the extra cleaning and the isolating,
(21:09):
but it's hard to isolate and test passengers, but literally
everybody was sick. And Number three the Academy Awards last
night for the in memoriam segment. We know that Rob
Reiner was tributed and so was Robert Redford.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Barbara Streisan was there to do that, but there's always
people who were left out of bit.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
So the ones that it did not include Bridget Bardoux
and James Vanderbink.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Oh, I know exactly. There's always one or two.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
You're up to date. Three things to know today.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Do you ever feel like you are picking up your
phone your device too much?
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Yep, let's hear about it.
Speaker 4 (21:51):
Sam, I thought that was the question.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
That is the question.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
Yeah, it's like, if there's a second of free time
and it's nearby, pick it up, whether it's too myself
or because all the time, I mean, or to check
company email or personal email.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Yeah, and we're not made that way. That is not
the way, you know, we're supposed to be when you
came into this world.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
What about you, Marph, it's it's more going to be work.
I'm fairly comfortable putting my phone down, but I think
when I put my phone down, I'm actually then working
on the computers six to one, you know half the
other yet? Right?
Speaker 4 (22:24):
What about for you?
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Yes, I do, and I don't like it.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
I'm very aware that I'm filling a space and time.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Well, sometimes with the device.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
You do absolutely do it out of habit. Have you
ever been in an elevator before where everybody just all
of a sudden whipsh out their phones. That's why I
like to just engage in conversation in the elevator. Sometimes
you know that, but it'll prevent that from happening. But
it's weird how just everybody just brings it, breaks up
their phones till the moment. One time.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
You know, one of my ongoing pictures that I do
on Facebook is my kids when they all get together.
We have a sofa picture, yes on that and one
year when had phones, It's like, I want you all
to look at your phones while I'm taking a picture.
Speaker 4 (23:04):
So the sofa picture was everybody going.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Yeah, so great And sadly though that is that that's
a real image of some families, you know, situations when
they're together and whatever works for you. But if it's
bothering you, if you realize you are filling every moment
with that, you're you're missing life. You're missing the birds
chirping and the flowers, and you're missing spring, and you're
missing actual conversations with people and just the piece of pause.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
You know, we should do that.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
So they say it's you have to really make an
effort to stop looking at your phone so much, figure
out why you're doing it in the first place.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
If it's just boredom, do something else.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Well, if it's habit, Yeah, if you're picking it up
to fill it, to fill space, Yeah, that's an easy
enough one to catch if you catch it before you
pick it up.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
Keep it out of the bedroom. If you're wasting your
downtime at night, your relaxation time, keep it out of there.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Yeah, put it away from your self.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Make it harder to use it, you know, Like, have
a rule at the table that nobody brings their device
to the table. That's for you and for everyone there.
You will find your family time improved that way. But
what's funny about it. We talk about family, and it
does affect families, but it's also your own mental health
that it's not the first thing that you should go for.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
You don't even realize. You think it's a passive activity,
but it really is wearing you out mentally the more
that you scroll hot from the thing.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
How do you think of this today the next time
you pick it up? Or we all do?
Speaker 8 (24:31):
Coming up?
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Jody has another Hollywood.
Speaker 6 (24:33):
Outsider social media connect.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
There's an email to Murphy Samonjody dot com that came
in for you, Sam, and it's from Jeanette.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
She's not asking if you're single uh huh, it says o.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
MG. I was so triggered today when I was listening
to the podcast about your unexpected flank blank g in
the restroom.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
She can't say the word frog. That's interesting. She have
a fear for it.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
I have the biggest phobia. I can't even spell it.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
Thankfully I live in the desert in El Paso.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
We are grassy areas where the little garden ones come
out when it rains.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
You bet.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
I avoid parks when it rains. My husband has talked
about taking me to therapy or even a hypnotist if
the therapy involves getting near one bless her and then
all caps.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
No thanks anyway.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
I'm glad you survived your encounter because that would have
been my last moment on Earth. The big hand sized fraud. Yeah,
it was huge that you saw in your bathroom.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
I wonder if her phobia is from the unexpected jump. Yes,
that's really what it is. It's like the Jack in
the box factor, you know what I mean. You never
know when he's going to move and pop up and
scary you.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
They do have that movement thing, and Jeanette, you'd have
to let us know. But they also have.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
The they look like they don't feel nice.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
You see what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
Yeah, I'm a very texture type person, and so they
don't look like that would feel good.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
I have not wanted been a person to want to
touch frog since I was a kid.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
I just don't like look at or touching frog. Well,
the one in your house was huge comparison, he.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
Could not have anyway.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
You got the wizards. I have no problem with. I
can touch a lizard all day long.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
Sure, I think it's the not being familiar, that the
movements that unexpected.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
You don't know what's gonna happen next.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Anyway, listening to your story about your big frog in
your bathroom sound it was scary for Jeanette listening to
the podcast.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Janette, I guess you don't want me to send you
a picture of that frog.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
He's huge.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Coming over next, Jody has another Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 6 (26:45):
Jody's Hollywood outsider.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Kinnon O'Brien did a great job for his second time
hosting the Academy Awards last night.
Speaker 7 (26:52):
I am Conan O'Brien and I'm honored to be the
last human host of the Academy Award.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
By the way his talks so fantastic. Let's move to
one of the biggest awards of the Nights. I think
we all wanted Michael B. Jordan to win Best Actor
for playing the dual role of Smoke and Stack and Sinners.
Speaker 9 (27:12):
This dream, this vision of Ryan Coogler and betting on
a culture and betting on original.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Ideas and an original artistry.
Speaker 9 (27:19):
And you're an amazing, amazing person. I'm so honored to
call you a collaborator and a friend. And you gave
me the opportunity in space for me to be seen,
and I'd love you too.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
That's his first OSCAR nomination and first wins.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
I know I kind of we all sort of did
want him to win that. The other interesting thing that.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Happened at the Academy Awards is Sean Penn is now
the fourth male actor to win three Oscars, but of
course he wasn't there. Kieran Culkin is the one who
announced his Academy award.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
And the Oscar goes to Sean Penn one battle after another.
So I wait for it.
Speaker 7 (27:58):
Wait, Sean Penn couldn't be here this evening or didn't
want to, so I'll be accepting new order on his bath.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Or didn't want to.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
It's probably about right and the word is it's a rule.
The academy will not let you accept it.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Via zoom Sam.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
I want to rewind till last week. There was a
conversation around here between you, me and our friend Jeremy,
and Jeremy was talking about this book that he was
enjoying reading. It's called I Want My MTV.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
So as soon as Jeremy said that, he started telling
you about how cool it is and it's all about
the beginnings of MTV and all this cool stuff. I
was like, Jeremy, I need you to send me the
link to that. I need to get that from Murphy.
And so he's like, okay, great, and the next thing
I know, I have an email with a link. I'm like, great,
(28:51):
this is perfect for Father's Day. Murphy's very hard to
buy for. Fast forward to Saturday morning. I'm sitting on
the sofa drinking some coffee alone. Murphy sleeps late. I
look on the coffee table and you know.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
What's sitting there. That's right, I want my MTV. I'm like,
what happened?
Speaker 2 (29:13):
Did you not realize that when I asked Jeremy that
I meant for me to sneak attack gift.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Well, and it's so, I mean, the link was sent
to all three of us all the blue. Did you
not catch that all three of us got a link
to the books? No, like, hey, this looks a great click. Well,
you know me, it only takes five seconds.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
I realized when I saw it. It's like, how did
this happen? And I thought Jeremy didn't realize. Yeah, and
he's kind of a woman's game to be like, I'm
going to that's a gift.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
I'm going to save that for Father's Day.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
When he does fine, he's going to feel bad, So
don't make him feel bad, you know what I'm saying.
He probably he may have just misunderstood.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
And never what he is the most generous person.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Yeah, but he also doesn't know that you get what
you want for yourself.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Did you buy it yet, Sam?
Speaker 1 (30:02):
I didn't.
Speaker 5 (30:03):
The reason I didn't jump on it that quickly is
he also mentioned another book about Saturday Night Live Live
from New York in which they talked to all the
cast members over the years, and the next day he
brought that in and gave it to me to read.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
So he loaned it to me, So okay, have you started.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
I tried that. The print is so tiny I can't read.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
What, so I'm probably gonna get smaller than the average book.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
It's ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
I even put on my old reader glasses that I
don't need, and I still couldn't read it.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
Oh no, I'm going to do audio book on that one.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Okay, it'll be funny to listen to.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
Book at some point, so it
