Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the second half of today's Murphy, Sam and
Jody podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
This is so lovely.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
Numbers are in and we're seeing now that the psychological
benefits of owning a pet are just as good as
having a spouse.
Speaker 4 (00:17):
Really lies there.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
I thought you were going to jump at that, say,
I jump all over it.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Actually I was worried where you were about to go,
Jody with that.
Speaker 5 (00:26):
Pets don't talk that, Okay, okay.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
People with pets report higher satisfaction in life, better moods.
It's it's it's equivalent to making a lot more money
every year, the happiness that they report, and they also
say the number is the same if you are very
social to the happiness reports the psychological benefits if you
(00:52):
visit with family and friends a lot. So it just
pets keep you social, but in a very different way.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Pets are.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
So it's so unconditional with pets. Yeah, it's uncomplicated.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
That probably helps it.
Speaker 5 (01:05):
It's like because you're never dealing with and unless they
poop in the hall or something like that. It's they're
always happy, right, They're happy to see you, they're happy
when you're upset.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Everything.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Yeah, it's it's much more it's uncomplicated. The relationship with
a pet is uncomplicated. You know what it is, you
know what to expect. They're all about what to expect
from you.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Well.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
And since you said it's the same sort of dopamine
release or whatever that a psychologically the social setting is.
That makes sense to me because we tend to equate
socializing today with what we're doing scrolling on a screen
or at a teams meeting. That's not the same thing.
And so if you're not, at least with a pet,
you're able to engage socially, you know what I'm saying.
(01:45):
In other words, it's a physical presence there. They've said that,
you know, for people who are you know, elderly or
living alone, that makes a huge difference.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Do you remember, don't You don't You probably don't remember this, Murphy,
But I have a very vivid memory of not long
after your mom had died and your dad was living alone.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Now, it wasn't right away.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
I would never have said this to him right away,
but six months down the road, nine months later, I
mentioned to him, would you be interested.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
In having a dog?
Speaker 3 (02:14):
And before I could finish before the g like dog,
he was like, no, so I was just like, Okay,
I wanted him to have that, but he did not,
So he set up you know, hardline there.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
He had us.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Hopefully we brought him some happiness there too.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
By the way, Sam, for your information, dog lovers typically
a little happier than Kat.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Of course, Jody has three things to Know Today. Coming
up next. Here's three things.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
To Know today, brought to you by home Depot.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Number one.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
All this technology should help make our work lives better. Right,
So now that the Gemini chatbot for Google can turn
your Google Docs and your Google work into a podcast
where you can listen to your work and your plans.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Whether it's a spreadsheet or just to Google.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Doc, it now can generate a pair of podcast hosts
who will talk through the key points of your document
like it's an actual show. Play with it, use it.
Hopefully it will help you. But don't expect it to
be entertaining.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Here's what's coming up on your schedule today.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Unless your work is entertaining, don't expect it to be entertaining.
Number two, it's the opening round day of the Masters.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Yeah, first group. I already went out.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Scotti Scheffler is an odds on favorite to win for
the second year in a row. No, Tiger Woods is
not going to be there. That was an April fool's joke.
He's still recovering from surgery.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Hello.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
And then the sentimental second runner up would be Rory McElroy.
He's a four time champ. Of course number three. Maybe
you know this, maybe you don't, but Sabrina Carpenter is
now a Fortnite avatar and she's being used in ways
that are not normal for the game. It was part
of this whole new skin, part of the update that
(03:56):
dropped this week. But fans, especially like teenage boys, are
using her to dance and be very lovely, all baby
doll outfit and all Sabrina Carpenter in Fortnite.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
You're in the No.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Three Things to know today, if it's new and you
can eat it, Sam's found it. Here's the food.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Dude brought you buy International Animal Rescue.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
Some cool food stuff coming up. But before we get sharted,
this week, we have been talking about the best candies
to put in the freezer. Yes, Terese's peanut butter Cups Nickers.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Was number one, and that sounds good.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
And Murphy, you said your grandmother used to do Charleston shoes.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Right, yeah, it's an old person I shouldn't say an
old person's candy.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
Well, guess what I happened to be in an offbeat
store yesterday and right by the cash register Charleston chew.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Okay, so you know that every day.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
I put these in the freezer when I got here today. Okay,
so here you go, a frozen Charleston chew.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Oh like big ones. I can't say I've ever eaten
this candy.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Well, and the first thing you're supposed to do is this,
oh what what to crack them?
Speaker 4 (05:02):
Yes? All right?
Speaker 1 (05:04):
That while we do You used to actually say that
on the packaging a long time ago.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Okay, Oh, it's says try frozen on the package. Your
grandmother was right, Murphy, I've never had one of these. Okay, onward,
while we if you're brave enough to chew it while
he does food dude, yeah, Mark.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
I'll try to go for it.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
Have a new Kraft mac and cheese coming smoky barbecue.
Oh that's different time for barbecue season.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Well, mac and cheese goes well with barbecues, any barbecue anyway.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
And by the way, these are in the box and
they're also going to be bringing some of the more
of the cup ones because you know right now in
the cups, I think you only have two or three flavors.
They're going to bring back everything bagel and put it
in the cup and also ranch mac and cheese in
the cup.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
No, I had no idea.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
So many so good. Okay.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
New cereals coming from Life and they're getting in on
the trend of infusing the cereal with stuff like protein.
But what they're doing is they're infusing one that supports
healthy bones and the other supports has immunity support. They're
going to be called Mighty Life.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Oh cute, okay.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
The one that they have one that's enthused with vitamins
and minerals for immunity and the other one is vitamin
D and calcum.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
I'll see them for a ball strength right well.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
Also have a new Ocean spray on the market, just
a limited time only. Strawberry shortcake.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
Oh that sounds delicious.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Candy in a bottle.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
It got to some lemonade.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
It would cut that sweetness and cut the sour and
as that sounds delicious.
Speaker 5 (06:22):
And if you love the chantilly cake at a Whole
food Murphy does they have so many people going nuts
over it. They said, hmm, I wonder if we can
convert this to a drink. They've come up with a
Verry Chantilly latte at Whole Foods. If your Whole Foods
has the coffee.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Bar, you can get that.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
They got it. Wow, Oh excellent.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
So you should try these, Jody, You'll see what the
dealer is. They're not when you freeze them. You would
think it's like ice on the inside, but it's not.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Oh, I cannot bite it. My teeth aren't that strong.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
It just turns into you know, life cereal. And if
you ever eat one at room temperature, you'll see why
they tell you to freeze it. Oh, it reminds me
and my grandmother. Coming up. Jody has another Hollywood.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
On the way next though, summer is coming. How much
should a teenager be sleeping during those summer months. We're
loving hearing about your sleep patterns, how much you sleep,
what time you go to bed. Can't remember how this
all came about. Maybe because I go to bed at
eight o'clock now regardless.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
Murphy.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Yeah, well, we had to call from Jerry saying a
four hours that's enough for me? Whoa wow, which would
be cool.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Dee sent this into our Facebook comments. You can stop
the mighty brain from racing when it's bedtime. You can
do it like meditation is what she's saying. She does,
clear your thoughts, repeat, clear mind if necessary, take deep breaths, relax,
have a routine and a specific bedtime every night. So
(07:46):
even say the words clear your mind, like say that
to yourself, is what she's saying.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Yeah, that's cool.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Hey, no, you know it's helping me. Lately.
Speaker 5 (07:52):
I started doing this. Yes, samm is an audiobook. I've
never done audiobooks before, but I started listening to on
audiobook and I do it before I go to bed,
So like a half hour.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
In bed of just closed.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Okay, you don't fall asleep while the story's being told.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
No, it's too good a story.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Oh wow, Well what story is it?
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Masks Bruce Springsteen Born to rhyme.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Oh that's cool. So something you would read anyway?
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah, so weird. Whenever anything is on in my ears
and I close my eyes, I will I can go
to sleep. Yeah, wee music books or whatever. I will drift,
so I have to be to be sitting there.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Yeah, but speak like like Jerry's saying his daughter who
wanted to sleep all weekend, and he felt like she
was like wasting his light her life. Patricia said, my
kids are fifteen and thirteen and love to sleep, always have.
We even have to wake them up every single year
on Christmas. I let them sleep until they wake up
if we don't have anything on our schedule.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Not cool.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
My boys were always long sleepers. As long as you
don't disturb them, they sleep. Then Mattie was always up
early and ready to do stuff right.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Different people are wired differently, just like some people pop
right up and are you know morning, you know, everything's firing.
Other people feel like they're walking through mud at first
for the first hour, and that is just biological.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
It's in you.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Yeah, that's me. I'm the mud walker Jody in the morning,
and Jody is the one who wakes up fast.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
I get so much done in the first hour. I
wear myself out actually by mid morning. Anyway, Beth said,
I let mine sleep as much as they want. Soon enough,
they'll enter the workforce and won't have a choice. They
have household responsibilities every day in the summer and they
need to get those done before we get home. And
we teach them to manage their time. Thank you for that.

Up next, Jody has your Hollywood Outsider Trending Now.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Jody's Hollywood Outsider.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Brought to you by Private Team.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Miss Actor Tom Hittleston is teasing his return to the
Marvel Universe as Loki.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
I know what this place is, the Timekeeper.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
He played Loki for the first time in twenty eleven
and four, and then he had his own series on
Disney Plus Loki that's very popular.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
He was listed as one of the millions of Avengers
coming back for.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
That new movie, right he said, he's so excited to
be back. He can't talk really much about it, but
he is that he you know that Loki is not done,
which means he's going to be a part of Avengers Doomsday,
which we get May twenty twenty six, so a year
from now.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
You know they're beginning work on that now.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
Already, no word on another season on Loki.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
No word on that moving on to Tom cruises everywhere
right now because he does have Mission Impossible, Final Reckoning
coming out.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
I need you to trust me one last time. And
so he was doing all these interviews.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
You know, he was at CinemaCon too, which he doesn't
normally do that, and he has been talking a lot
about his something that we didn't know, his friendship with
Brad Pitt. Apparently they're buds. They work together. In nineteen
ninety four in interview with a Vampire.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
I thought Brad was only friends with George.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Anyway, they used to hang out together.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
They would go race go cards against each other and
they and he said that Brad definitely knows his way
around a track. And of course, you know, Brad Pitt
has this f one movie, a racing movie coming out soon.
Sometimes when you're a mom, you do something and you
even try to talk yourself out of it, like why
am I doing this? Kids don't even want me to
do it, but the mom inside cannot be stopped. So
(11:24):
I don't know if you remember this, but about a
year ago, Murphy, when Phoebe was living in the apartment
with Taylor and her other college roommates.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Our two daughters were actually living together his roommates for
a little while before our oldest mooove back home.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
They loved it, but Phoebe needed some bowls and wanted
to bring some bowls, and there were already coffee cups
and plates, but they just needed bowls, and so Phoebe said,
I'll bring them. I had a friend who was doing
in estate sale and she had all kinds of dishes.
She said, don't buy new stuff for your kid's college apartment.
Come to my state sale and have her come pick
out some dishes. And so we went, and Phoebe fell
(11:58):
in love with these red balls. They're currently in our kitchen,
fifty big red with a little white stripe around, really
good dishware.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
But Phoebe only wanted the bowls.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
I'm like, FEBEs, there are coffee cups and plates and
small plates. Like, it's a whole set. I'll buy you
the whole set. No, I'm not into that. I went
back the next day. I called my friend, I'm like,
I have to have the whole set. Maybe one day
they'll want the whole set. I never even told Taylor
and Phoebe that because I didn't want.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
To be that extra.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Yeah, where'd you keep it?
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Under the bed in the guest bedroom.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
I put him in a box, wrapped them up under
the bed in the guest bedroom. Fast forward to this today, yesterday,
Taylor's like.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
You know, Mom, I'm moving out soon.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
She's moving into an apartment this summer, and she's like,
I'm gonna need some dishes.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
And I'm like, got everything for you except the balls.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
What's coming through?
Speaker 1 (12:49):
No.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
I even told her, I said, you know those red balls.
She goes, yeah, I like them. I said, ILL have
the whole set. She's like, what, there's a whole set.
I'm like, yes, Wow, where are they?
Speaker 4 (13:02):
I love it?
Speaker 2 (13:02):
So yeah, and they're in great condition.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
She's got coffee cups, she's got small plates, big plates,
and the balls.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
We're not going to have the balls anymore, Murphy. Sorry,
you know.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
The she and we're talking about that, and it's really
cool that she and Phoebe love estate sales and just
all of that thrifting like they do, because that's how
she wants to outfit her apartment. She's already on the
lookout for things that are like table teams sold, you know,
sofas and all of that, and all of that will
be available, you know, and.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
She won't have to look for dishes now because she
has a complete set. Thanks the crazy mom braid
