Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Murphy, Sam and Jodi After the Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
We do have vacation coming up soon and really soon,
and we'll be heading out to We'll be in New
York together, you know, at a work thing, at an
industry thing, and then going our separate ways industry thing.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
That's what they're calling Taylor Swiss wedding.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
We won't be at that, although, I mean, I guess
that's not rumor at this point, right, I mean, that's real.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yeah, all the stories are basically wearing it as that's
what it's going to be.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
There's all kinds of activity around Madisonsburg Garden secretive activity.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
So for this After the Show podcast, if you're a
regular podcast user, know that you know we will be
on vacation for seven to ten podcasts something like that,
and then we will be we'll be back back. So
we'll we'll be providing some of our favorite moments from
you know, the past six months or so. If you're
watching on YouTube, I guess we're trying to run this
out of here because just went out.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yeah did we pay the bill?
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Maybe we didn't pay the bill.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Okay, as you get everything back square thought, you get
everything squared away, Murphy, I will say this, what's so
nice for me? I know we're doing one day of
work together in New York at an industry thing, but
then we kind of go our separate ways, Me and
Murphy and Taylor and Phoebe, our daughters will be on
vacation in New York for a few days. And I'm
so excited about that. And I do want to know
what you are looking most forward to, Sam for your vacation,
(01:18):
because you're meeting your son in Chicago.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
I realized there's light.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Okay, I realize what I'm most looking forward to is
no plans, and I don't want to make plans. I
love impromptu being I PROMPTU in New York is going
to be fabulous. And then what's so funny is that Phoebe,
she was here earlier. She was like, Mom, if it's
okay with you, I'd like to kind of start with
a little itinerary for us. And I was like, okay, great,
(01:46):
and she said are you okay with that? I said,
I'm totally good with that as long as I don't
have to plan anything. Because she and I both want
to go to the met and we also want to
thrift together a couple. She knows of some thrifting in Brooklyn.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
She wants to thrift.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Yeah, and so she's like, do you I'm like, I
don't care. What I want most of all is to
not have tell me where to go and what to do.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
I don't care.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
I love impromptu anyway in life. I find that the
best experiences are impromptu.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
But you're gonna have to have a little planned spontaneity
with this, because, like I mean, you buy a bunch
of stuff, you're gonna.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Have to I'm not gonna buy a bunch of stuff.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
It's either the subway or it's an uber bag.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
You haven't drifted with me before, Murphy. Not really, I'm
not gonna buy a bunch. I am very meticulous and targeted.
If I look at ten great pair of jeans, I'll
buy one. You know, I'm not worried about that. I'm
just saying I'm so looking forward to time in the city.
I love New York and I love to explore there
(02:48):
and see and it's beautiful just to be with our family.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
The girl.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
People keep asking are you going? Have you scheduled a
show or anything like that?
Speaker 4 (02:55):
We have not.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
I think it's Murphy scheduled one dinner and that's it.
And I'm so excited about that. Between the four of us,
I want you three to pick what we're doing. I
don't want to think that.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
You don't have to think.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
I need time to not think. That's what I'm looking
forward to, no matter where we would be going. But
it's nice to think that there's so much to do
in New York. Well, I'll end up enjoying every anything.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Yeah, so what are you looking most forward to? Sam
Murphy too, going.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
To eat because Chicago has got places. I've already told
my son Sammy, it's like I want the pizzas, a
couple of pizzas, Chicago Dog, the Beef Italian beef sandwich. Yeah,
we're going to a Cubs game. We're hoping to do
the Cubs game on the fourth.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Nice is supposed to be as hot in Chicago as
it is everywhere else the first couple.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Of days, I think so, but then by maybe by
Sunday the highs only in the low eighties or seventies
or nice.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
Well, that'll be very nice.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
And then really there is Oh, he wants to go
see a comedian on Friday night.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
So we've got plans for that, but really, other than
eating baseball baseball game and that comedian, it's going to
be what do you want to do up in the
tall building? You want to go? What we don't? We
don't really have plans.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Big city to see is a lot to see.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
They don't call that the Sears Tower anymore either. I
always forget what they call it.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
It's called what are you looking forward to, Murphy?
Speaker 1 (04:24):
I'm honestly I'm looking forward to, you know, the break
time with you, Taylor and Phoebe. Yeah, I mean, it's
I think it's a blessing that they're going to be
able to come with us.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
You know, you're so excited. I'm looking forward to seeing
their faces.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
And because we've really not done that kind of would
certainly have not done a New York trip with them before.
You and I've been together a couple of times, and
they've been individually with school friends and that sort of thing.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah, one of Phoebe's best friends lives there, goes to
school there, and lives there now. So Phoebe's been, you know, separately,
and thrifted in Brooklyn and done all of that, and
Taylor's been a couple of times and loves New York,
so they're they're just so excited to be there. And right,
we haven't done a we haven't done a vacation with
just the four of us in a long time, you know.
(05:07):
And Taylor's boyfriend, Alan Michael, you know, would have been
invited to come along, but he didn't really want to.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
I think he's working. He's dog sitting his house.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Sayah, he's actually going to stay at the house.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
And Champ and Sparky love him, so that works.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
I'm actually looking forward to seeing some of our coworkers
that we don't ever see because you know, we're never
really in New York City, and some of our coworkers
are there, so that's going to be fun colleagues. Yeah,
And then Phoebe was asking me whether what I wanted
to do since she wants to do the MET. I
mean she's made that clear. Y'all can do whatever you
(05:44):
want to do. I'm doing the MET.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
She knows I'm doing the MET with.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
That, I mean, she is, she's our art little artist,
you know. And uh, and I'll be curious to I
think Taylor's probably a little bit more about the shopping
and the food and the pizza and the you know,
you and.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Taylor may split off from the MET away from us.
You might do half the MET that we want to do.
Because Taylor Phoebe and I have a similar experience A
long time ago. I was in New York without you,
and I got to go to the MET, but it
was only for a little whiles with a group, and
they wanted to leave sooner than I wanted to leave.
And she had the same experience with her friends. They
only wanted to be there for a little while, and
she could have spend the whole day there. So I'm like,
(06:17):
I'll spend the day with you there.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
So the other thing I would like to do if
we if we can we're only there for a short
period of time, is I would like to take the
NBC Studios tour, because I've never done that. At thirty
Rock and you know, I mean, that's where SNL is
still done their live I don't know what other shows.
I guess the Today Show obviously still done. But what's that.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Fallon in that building?
Speaker 4 (06:41):
I think, so that's a good question.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
I don't remember if Jimmy Fallon's show has done in
New York or in la I guess.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
It's in New York. I think it's definitely there.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
So, yeah, it's the other Jimmy who's in Los Angeles, right,
I don't know where Kimmel is kim but anyway, so
I would like to do that. And that's just the
whole that's the kid part of me, you know. We
had the we traveled a couple of years ago, the
three of us did together, and we got to visit
what currently is an iHeartRadio Music Theater or an iHeart
(07:13):
Radio Theater, but it's the old studios for the Tonight
Show that you know, Johnny Carson was. It was built
I guess Burbank for Johnny Carson and then Jay Leno
later did his show there, and I think after Lenno
that was it and NBC doesn't own that anymore, but
there was so much history in that building, and Days
of Our Lives is still filmed in there.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
I think California.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
That was kind of yeah, they told us, yeah, that
was a Los Angeles trip. You know, the three of us,
don't We are not We're not worldly like that. So
these trips are really treats for us, you know. And
the last time that we went to New York City
is the three of us. Our friend Jamie Wax was
working for CBS Television there and he was doing CBS
(07:53):
This Morning. I guess the weekends editions he was. He
still is actually, I guess the roving you know, sort
of traveling.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Order for them he does work with.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Yep, he still does them. And so before they shut
down those New York studios for radio, for radio, we
got to actually take that, you know, that to a world.
It was in the same building though, remember as where
CBS This Morning was being done, but CBS is no
longer operating out of there, and that's kind of like
again nostalgic stuff. So the NBC one is just one
that I want to because, mainly probably because of SNL,
(08:24):
I would love to be able to just walk through
that studio and you know, and see it's a different world,
a different day and age. You know, when we were
growing up in the in the eighties, you had shows
that were either being filmed on location in Thirty Rock
in New York City or at the Burbank Studios in
Los Angeles, and I just love that kind of game shows.
All that kind of stuff, you know, is nostalgic for me.
(08:46):
So anyway, that's what I would if we can squeeze
that in great, But it's like anything else, I'm just
going to have such a foodie.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
It's just so much to see and do there. We'll
never see it. I want to enjoy. I don't want
to break our necks trying to see and do everything
I want to pay attention to.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Some of the churches are gorgeous in New York City.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Well, we're also going to have to work around the
crowds because it's a It is America two fifty and
that was very coincidental. When this whole trip was actually booked.
To be honest with you, it was not. This was
not about taking a July fourth vacation to New York
City at all.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
We just ended up being there in early July's thought
let's stay and.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
So a lot of the there's nothing going on in
Times Square, that's the televised event, so they're not there's
a ball drop, but it's not like a public ball drop, and.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
They affect traffic and streets and they're be barricades and
things like that that we need to be aware of.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Yeah, and then the along the East River, I think
is where the Macy's fireworks sponsored show is. I'm just
not familiar enough with that whole area to really know.
But they say that that's going to be, you know,
a spectacular, so there's going to be plenty of things
that are going on. I did read, though, Jody, that
the hotel room that we're in will not have a
fireworks view. I'm not even sure it really has any
(10:00):
of you, but.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
I'm okay with that.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
We're only sleeping in that room because we're going to
be experiencing the city.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Yeah, it's going to be in it. It's gonna fly though,
and that's why.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Do you run into Taylor in Travis somewhere.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
I doubt it. I don't think we're going to be
in those circles.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
But I know we're not going to be in those circles.
That's a Madison Square Garden thing. Yeah, and see, I
don't even know. I don't know New York and Manhattan
well enough.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
To know where it is in relation to where were.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
To Times Square. We're staying closer to Times Square and
so you.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Know, Yeah, we just just keep in mind their wedding
is supposed to be on Friday, July third, That's what
we're told. Yeah, so we're there from the well we
you know, we're there through the through the fifth I think,
so maybe we'll be leaving when they're leaving.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
It would not surprise me though, that there may be
like sightings of others, just celebrities walking down the street.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
You know, that's always true in New York, Kansas City Chiefs,
all those Yeah, right, exactly.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
So it'll be fun.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Still, I'm so excited about the time with the girls
and for me, I mean, you're gonna find me very agreeable,
like whatever. I just don't want to be making I
don't want to think, Okay.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
That's what vacation is.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
I know.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
Yeah, absolutely
