Welcome to the Murphy Salmon Jody after the show podcast. Sam.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
You know, Murphy and I were away for the weekend
with some friends, got invited to last minute wedding reception.
Crast the reception first time in our lives, had to blast.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
We didn't really crash it. We were invited.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
We were invited by the mother of the bride, which
was cool. However, I was worried that the weekend was
not going to go well because at the very beginning
of it, at the start of it, we're pulling into
the hotel parking lot and Murphy finds this great spot
up close and pulls into it and jacks up his
jacks up your rim a little bit on the side and.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Really jack it up. I scratched it.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
See, I thought it was just a scratch. But you
you know, Murphy's very particular about his cars.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Well yeah, I mean you probably heard it too, didn't you.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Oh oh yeah, it made it made quite the crunch.
But so but you know, but here's the thing about it. Well,
first off, with the wedding thing, so I was going
to keep the you know, the mindset, the right mindset
because we were lucky, we were out of town. When
you get invited to a wedding, you need to be
dressed for it. You need to have a you know,
in the case of a guy, it's a dress shirt

(01:10):
and a jacket, which I had on me only because
we were going to a nice dinner. But I also
had brought an additional nice shirt. Says like, all right, well,
I'm covered for both of these.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
I can always pack a backup. And I had a
skirt that I didn't wear to the dinner the first night,
so it worked. Although one of the mom who invites,
like you can go shopping for a dress in the afternoon,
I'm like, I sure, good.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Oh that's so true. I didn't think about that. Yeah, yeah,
it is twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
It's an excuse to just go shopping for something. But
I didn't need anything, so I didn't.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah. So so, I mean, so that was, you know,
a perk. I was looking forward to the weekend. And
although I don't like doing that because I just had,
you know, one one of the tires. I'm just I
am a curb clipper. It's who I am. I think
we've talked about this before. Yeah, absolutely, I.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Am one more curb clippings and little bumps and bruises
with vehicles than I do.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
And I don't know. I don't know why today honestly,
because I swear I feel like when I mean, I
can understand it. Like when I was driving you know,
the ore Yukon, which is you know, kind of big,
and you got to get used to that and squeeze
it into spaces. But I would always be able to
pull right into a spot, no problem and not clip things.

(02:22):
But I don't know if it's because technology is technology.
I'm just not paying attention to like the you know
where the car is anymore or what. But I will
always misjudge a curb always.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
And your camera has like or your car has cameras
all over the place.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Right, yeah, but I didn't have it turned on for
the I was pulling into a spot, you know. So.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
But yes, there are times when I'm the passenger and
you are driving, and I'm afraid you're about to misjudge something.
But I don't want to say anything because we have
been married for a long time and you know how
that can be. I have all I've made the mistakes
of you know, I'm some sort of I'm not a
great passenger, you know, I'm really afraid of being in

(03:03):
a car accident. It's one of my greatest fears. And
so anytime things get a little scary on the road
or a car gets too close, you know what I do.
I don't mean to do it, and I'm so what
I'm saying to you is I'm trying to curb my
reactions as a passenger. But there are times when I
want to say you're a little close. And I literally

(03:25):
I had that thought when you were pulling in, but
I didn't want to say. It was raining. So anyway,
when he hit that, I was like, man, I.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Suspected that you were.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
A little tight.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Go ahead, okay, but I didn't say anything. Yeah, you're
a grown man, dver, you can say it. It's the reaction,
The scared reaction makes me think I'm about to do
something really wrong, which is why it causes me to
actually do something wrong at that point. When you have
a passenger that screams or overreaction, that's about the worst
thing you can do to the driver.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
I know, and I'm trying so hard.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Oh, I know, and I think you have but you didn't.
You didn't do that this time. But but yeah, I
just it's it's almost laughable. And these are metal, you know,
metal rims, and you know some tires the rims are
not depending on the type of tires that you ride in,
because low profile tires are really common these days, and
these aren't the lowest of low profile. I'd say they're

(04:19):
in between. So you don't have a whole lot of
sidewall to deal with, and the sidewall is really close
to the rim. So but you know, this is one
of those where the warranty, you know, it pays off.
I know that the they're varying opinions on different warranties
or whatever, and I was, I mean, I've always been
the biggest skeptic, but I researched this when long before
I bought it. It has more than paid for itself

(04:42):
because this warranty, this warranty will pay for the polishing
out of if a damaged rim, it'll pay for the
complete replacement of it. It will pay for the pop tire.
It replaces everything zero cost. And I've already gone through
two tires, and I've gone through five rim repairs. Yes, yeah,
not many. Yes, I've had because of because of hitting

(05:04):
curbs and things like that. Things you don't intend to do.
Have you ever been to like you know, sometimes if
you go into a bank or like a coffee shop
and the drive through is real narrow with the curbs
on either side. It's so narrow that if you don't
turn right, you'll kind of you'll clip it. And the
thing is, my rims will always get you know, they
will get scratched on that. So I'm really it's more

(05:24):
than it's paid. Not that I want to wreck my
rims all the time, but I'm not worried about it
because it's not a there's no limit on it. It's
as you know, it's it's it's for the life of
whenever as long as I own the car that is covered.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Doesn't say oh you again, I don't think it stops.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
From getting opinions from.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
You're really going to be six. They're gonna be like, dude,
this guy.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Yeah, well, I always pair it with something else that
it neither needs to be in a regular maintenance or
something like that. So I'm not just sliding in on
you know, I all change. By the way, could you
get that right? Rim? I swear I don't know where
the curb came.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Who keeps doing this?

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Tomorrow, right, So so yeah, so I just you know,
I wasn't.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
No, and we were meeting friends that we love, hanging
out with that we don't get to see very often.
So as soon as he hit the curb, he got
over it quickly and everything was fine. Now, if it
had just been you and me alone solo for dinner,
I think we would have been hearing about that ram
a lot. No, honestly, I know it feels like.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
It it's it may be, but not with the warranty.
I mean, I realized it's like, that's what the warranty's for.
I don't like it. That's me being frustrated with myself.
That's not about the tire. That's about me hitting it,
you know what I'm saying. It's just sort of like
how did I do that? You know? The getting it
fixed part is not. But when I told our friend
Mark about that, you know, he was like great, He says, well,

(06:49):
I don't plan on hitting your car this time, because
remember he backed into you know, the car the last
time we hung out with them. There's always some sort
of car incident. Well, and that's that scuff is still
there as a room. So if it's ever you know,
but anyway, I wasn't you know, the warranty covered that.
I just it's just me. It's the why, where where
has my depth perception gone so far off the rails

(07:12):
that I can't navigate a curb. I can navigate other things,
parking spots, side view mirrors. I can do that all
day long if I can. What I can't see below
the hood is what gets me in trouble. You know,
have you ever have you ever taken off out of
a parking spot and not realizing there was a curb
in front of you?

Speaker 2 (07:29):
I mean, you did it the other day or I did?

Speaker 1 (07:33):
I did? I think it's.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
When, honestly, it's usually when there's a lot of other
things going on. We're talking with people, we're visiting. You
have a limit, a load, a brain load that and
so those things that you normally would if you were
alone in the car and had not had a you know,
we were saying goodbye at the end, you hit the
parking lot. Whatever the what do you call that thing?

(07:57):
The carb at the front.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Yeah, it's yeah, it's a little curve. You know, it
doesn't look like because you've got cars on either side,
you can't really tell and it was a gravity go forward.
It was a gravel area, and I tried to go forward.
I was, I was straightening up as was trying to
do before I backed out. But in something like a
Forerunner where you've got tall tires or a truck or whatever,
it isn't a big deal whatsoever. You're gonna go anywhere.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Yeah, that's going on with your lower You have a
lower profile vehicle.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
You know that.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
I'm in the Batmobile.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Yeah, that is true. It's not it's not the lowest.
But I mean, like you know, when when I was,
you know, twenty something, and I had a little RX
seven and I had that Honda Prelude at one point,
which you know, you were literally about six inches off
the ground when you sat down on that thing. Maybe
that's why it's easier to see curbs because they're right
there and I level it right exactly.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
I will tell you an interesting observation that I have
about this is when something happens to a vehicle for
a man, you're frustrated with yourself. You're aggravated about the
cost or not. Now you're not as much the warranty.
But when something happens to me and it's a vehicle thing.
I'm just devastated. I get emotionally even like, oh my god,

(09:08):
you know I've in the past I did It's just
almost like, oh, I did this and it's a huge mistake,
and I feel like I feel the weight of them,
like how much is this going to cost? I always
feel such guilt about you know, the last time I
popped a tire or whatever, I had a curb issue
as well, and the tire was flat by the time

(09:30):
I pulled in, and I was so like, Oh, this
is going to cost so much money. I felt so bad.
Do you guys have that too?

Speaker 3 (09:38):
What's funny you mentioned that, because in not just in
car things, but in everything else in life. I have
found in the past couple of years I'm more at
ease with some of those things. I used to always
get ramped up instant, like or if you lose something
in the house and it's like I got to turn
the house over until I find this thing. I have

(09:59):
found instances in the past few weeks even where it's
just like, Okay, you know what, if I can't find this,
or if this happens, I have the money, I can
replace it, move on. But in fact, this weekend, I
went to a music festival all day long. It's like,
where are my glasses? I had sunglasses on. It's like,
where are my glasses? Glasses so I can see? And

(10:20):
it's like, I sure, hope I left them in the
car and didn't lose them. And then I just like,
out of your head, enjoy the day, and sure enough
went back to the car after here they were right
where I thought I might have dropped them.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Good.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
But it's like I have and this is only recently,
because you know how amped up I get, only recently
where it's just.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Like, just guess what I'm trying to say is I
used to always have an emotional reaction to a factual situation,
and yeah, you in life, you just understand it's just
a fact. I don't have to attach such a feeling
to it, right, Although we have feelings about everything that
happens to us.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Yeah, well, yeah, I mean that's your reaction. It's okay, feelings.
There's nothing wrong with the feelings. Is what you do
with them that make a difference. There's no sense in
giving yourself a heart attack over something that's not But yeah,
I think that's a time. You know, it's just a
time thing. And then yeah, well, especially if it depends
on what you know, what you can't change, and it's
going to ruin whatever's going on in the moment, because

(11:14):
sometimes what's going on in the moment is what you
don't want to miss, and you will miss it by
letting yourself get all wound up, you know, by those things.
But you know, for me, I mean, look, money is
it's a reality, and so I think there's a scale
on what you're talking about. Sam. If you've got you
know what I mean, if it's a fifteen dollars thing
you're going to replace, that's fine. But like you know,
rims of a vehicle, you know, no matter what type

(11:35):
of vehicle, they're expensive. And I guess the more expensive
the vehicle, the more expensive the rims are. But you know,
I mean, on a Honda, if you're going to replace
alloy wheels, you're talking about several hundred dollars and you
don't want to keep going, you know, through those, So
excuse me. But but at the end of the day,
I mean, I guess you do find a way to
you know, replace or do whatever you need to do.
But that's why I've really I've started to be a

(11:59):
lot more accepting. I guess of the warranty depending on
what the warranty is. You know, if the warranty costs
more than it does to replace it, like on a
dishwasher for example, and the manufacturer's warranty is good, I'm
not going to buy the extended warranty. Not worth it,
but for something that I know is going that I'm
going to inflict upon myself that's going to get costly.

(12:19):
And think of it as many times as what I've
just explained to you about, you know, replacing and vending
in this set and the other that's why this thing
is paid for itself. And I remember the guy telling me,
he said, everybody you know with the lower profile tires
gets these, And in the back of my head, I'm thinking, Okay,
I'm being sold something. But I actually did a little
homework on it. I'm like, yeah, that adds up really quickly.

(12:41):
So it was totally worth the money. And plus I
was able to finance that warranty in with the note.
So so Armor foul Right missed any part of the show.
