NFL Cover Zero: Thankful for a long weekend of football!

Matt Jones and Drew Franklin are still buzzing over an amazing few days of Thanksgiving NFL and Week 13!  Which teams do Matt no longer consider a contender?  Drew is looking for a strong finish from the Bengals.  The Cowboys and Chiefs delivered a classic and leave you wondering about the future of both franchises. The Lions have lost 2 of 3 while the Packers are coming together. 

The Bears win makes Matt think they have a chance this season.   What has happened to the Eagles and Saquon Barkley? The Rams took a surprising loss to the Panthers.  Matt likes showing the locker room speeches, but thinks shirts should be left on.  The Texans improved to 7-5 win a win over the Colts.  Shedeur Sanders loses his 2nd start for the Browns. 

The Bucs ended a 3 game losing streak. The Vikings season continues to slide. Justin Herbert injures his non-throwing hand and Matt says he might be 'afraid' of Maxx Crosby. The Steelers fall to the Bills leaving plenty of questions about Pittsburgh.  Drew admits to watching a Hallmark movie about the Bills.  The Broncos win in overtime, could they be a Super Bowl contender? This could be the most wide-open playoffs we've ever seen.   Plus, we preview the MNF matchup with the Patriots hosting the Giants.

dealing sorry for the late arrival of today's podcast. We've
been dealing with the firing of UK football coach Mark Soops.
So last night we were not able to tape, so
it's coming a little late, but it's here, and thank
you all very much for tuning in. Drew, some of
these games we're going to talk about were days ago,

but we haven't talked about him yet. And I actually
think the most important parts of the weekend were Thanksgiving.
Maybe the best Thanksgiving day of football in a long time.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Oh what an awesome day. Two out of three good games,
but even the night game of Burrow coming Back, it
was just a full slate of sitting there, eating all
the food I can possibly eat and daring someone to
touch my remote. But then when the NFL was on TV.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Yeah, I mean I was actually actually followed the even
the night game because of the Burrow piece.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
What do you think of his hair?

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Really long? But he's kind of he's kind of like
he's becoming like a nineties teen male TV like heart
throb with all that hair to part it into the front.
Looks like Brian Austin Green.

Yeah, are we're gonna go back to listing, Uh Tiger Beetle.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
This is a very specific one. Looks like he would
be on nine O two and Oh Melrose Place, maybe
even The Heights. Ray, how do you talk to an angel?

He's just he's at that that stratosphere. We can do
it every once. He can show up with a blue
mohawk and everyone's just gonna fawn over him. He's at
that level. He wears whatever he wants, true the hairstat
one thing like a year ago. Yeah, sometimes he wears
baggy clay. He looks like a marshmallow walking into the stadium.
But I mean he pulls it off because he's Joe Burrow.
He's cooler than I could ever think about being.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Well, mass start with that game, since we're talking about it.
The Ravens of the teams that I thought were a
contender coming in the year, I think that's gonna be
the first one I'm gonna scratch off. We'll talk about
the Chiefs in a minute. I still can't completely scratch
them off yet, but I'm scratching the Ravens off because
they just don't have it. Lamar doesn't look quite the same,
but more importantly, their defense, they just they just don't

have it. And it took me until this game against
the Bengals. You get wiped out at home on Thanksgiving
when the other team was playing on four days rest
two and they had to come to your place. I'm
just they don't have it just being a.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Divisional rivalry, they're playing for the playoffs, Primetime TV. Sure
burrows back. He hasn't thrown a football in a game
in forever. They absolutely dropped the ball. I think back
to that Week one game against Buffalo, Dereck Henry was unstoppable,
and I'm thinking Henry's gonna do it again. But he's
cooled off since the beginning of the year. Lamar seems
to have lost the step. I just, I mean, they're

not mathematically out, but I mean I have no faith
in them doing anything for the rest. And the Beagles,
on the other hand, four and eight, I mean, they're
not a contender, are they?

Speaker 1 (03:12):
There's I mean, but if they were to win out,
we're gonna talk about two or three teams today where
I'm gonna have to say if they went out, which
sounds silly, but they actually could do it. I mean,
you look at the Bengals schedule. They are four and eight,
and there's some losses in here, like the Jets that
they've got to be going crazy about. But they're at
the Bills. Okay, that's a very hard games Sunday. But

then you got Ravens at home at Dolphins, Cardinals, Browns.
So it sort of sets up if you could just
win Sunday in Buffalo, why can't they win the division.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
I'm watching them, and you know the two teams ahead
of them, Steelers Ravens we just mentioned bad. Those aren't
world beaters. If they can win one, you get to
that stretchery of those three very winnable games in the year.
I could see the Bengals finishings strong and sliding in
the final hour.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
If they're nine and eight, they will win the division.
What's interesting is they might win it at eight to nine,
or being a tie at eight nine. That Ravens game
in two weeks could be actually a game for the division. Oddly,
I still don't I still hate their team. I still
think it's like Burrow, they got three good wide receivers
and then that's it. But they've been in a lot

of close games. I mean, they blew the Jets game.
I don't want to say they blew the Bears game,
but they they could have won the Bears game. The
Bears dominated that game but almost gave it away at
the end. Like they could be six and six pretty easily, right.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
And that's exactly what Pittsburgh and Baltimore. I mean, they
could be in a tie for the division if they
just handle finish the job against New York and Chicago.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah, why didn't Why does Chris collins Worth not do
the Thanksgiving game?

Speaker 2 (04:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Chason Garrett did it. And here's what I'm thinking. It's
the Bengals your team, right, it's thanks But he didn't
do it. Tariico does both. Why's Collinsworth think he's do
you think he's better than Thanksgiving? I think he's anti Thanksgiving?

Could it be he does this like Turkey? He ate
too much and literally they could not slot him into
the frame so they had to call someone in.

I don't know. I feel like Chris collins Worth I
turn on that game at night. There are going to
be more people watching that game then watch the game
on Sunday night.

Oh yeah, So why are you not?

you think Tom Brady wanted to be in Detroit?

Brady was like, yeah, I want to stand in the
cold in Detroit next to Kurt Minafee.

I actually heard him say during I don't know why
I watched that pregame show. They were asking him what
he eats and he said vegan, which I don't know
what that means.

What is vegan stuff?

I don't know, but everything it's a bad look for
Colin's worth not to.

I do only because Trico showed up, like that's your
other guy?

but Turrico's there, and Trinco's got to be like, excuse me,

I don't think it is Thanksgiving unless you have a
cast role. Now, I have never even fathom making a
cast role. I don't know how you would do it,
but I like them. That one's very easy. What corn casserole?

Is butter? Corn? Butter and what depending if you're one
more of a runne or fritter, but like condensed milk,
just unhealthy stuff and then sprinkle a little corn in there.

Tell me it's unhealthy. Oh see, I eat a lot
of it because it feels healthy because it's a vegetable.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
My aunt's broccoli and cheese casserole, which is my favorite.
It is mostly cheese, ritz, crackers, and butter, and then
there's like one little broccoli and it's perfect. The best
way to eat vegetables.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Well, I just thought you took too much crap for
the corn castrole thing. Just for the record, I actually
think that's good as well. Chiefs and Cowboys. I mean,
to me, this is have the numbers come out yet?
Is this the highest most watched regular season game ever?
That'll probab they come out today or tomorrow. I mean,
if they have not said it yet, I think it's
going to end up being the most watched regular season

game ever. They're saying it could be over fifty million people,
which they've never gotten. Who in America was not watching that?
I mean, Mahomes Kelsey, the Cowboys Thanksgiving? Honestly, you should
be you probably should be put in prison. If you

weren't watching that game, I would not trust anyone that
didn't have that game on.

I agree with you, it should be higher than turkey
on your Thanksgiving checklist.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Yes, that game that specifically because it's those two teams.
It's the Cowboys and the most marketable team. If it's it,
I understand if you're like, well, it's a cult, but yes,
Chiefs Cowboys, you gotta watch.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Have to. And I grew up in a Cowboys family.
We were sitting down to eat about the first quarter,
like my dad's saying the blessing, and the TV is
louder than us saying our prayer before eating because we
have to be locked in on the Cowboys game.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
And is Taylor Swift not going to the games anymore?
I think she's taking a step back too much, too
much tension. Last year's it's the holidays.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
But why would she not be there first of all?
Or is she there and they're not showing her at
which point that's also a dereliction of duty by the
bye by CBS. I mean you should see her like
Travis Kelce scored.

Yeah, they're you expecting it every time he makes a play.

Now it's a holiday, they have sweets tea.

I mean I should see her once for every ten
times I see Diego pave As. Mom, You're right about that.
I feel like I should see her sometimes. That was
a big talking point in my family. Everyone's like, where
is she? Has she popped up yet? Have you given
up on the Chiefs? They're now six and six? Oh
you have? Yes, you're done.

But I've also done this just about every week, and
they've shut me up a week later. This for me
almost was more about do the Cowboys have life? Don't
skip over the Chiefs yet? Okay?

Was bad loss? Bad loss for them and the Broncos
just keep winning.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
But I mean they're not gonna win the division. This
is now about a wild card. If they go eleven
and six, they probably would get a wildcard. Not certain
in the AFC, but probably. So they gotta win five straight.
You don't think they can win five straight.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Let me pull up their exact schedule, but no, they've
been so inconsistent this year.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
They play the Texans this week at home. They're hot
Chargers at home at Titans, Broncos at home at Raiders.
They have three hard games, but they're all at home.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Titans, Raiders. That's like the free Square on Bingo, give
you that.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Can they beat the Texans, Chargers and Broncos at home
three weeks in a row.

No, that's a big slate. It's hard, but.

They're all at home.

is as big as that, it's only been out a week,

that happens in the first episode, but you just saw
it's in a car crash and almost dies.

All right, Mario start on episode two. Yeah, more excited
to watch it. They've waited a long time for this.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Well now they know what's gonna happen. But it's not
like he's the main character, as I understand, like he doesn't.
Part of why we had him on the show because
we could get him.

I think he was one of the main care He's
probably the most consistent character on the entire show outside's
character outside of the kids that are now like thirty. Definitely,
the dad is the father figure to the main character.

Of all the people that are characters. Now, he's all
he does is go like, hey, Brian be home by nine?
Is that not all he does? Has a car wreck?
It nearly does, apparently, to be fair, Mark, I've never

Anyway, I was going to add that of the games
you listed on the chief schedule, they've already lost to
the Broncos and already lost to the Chargers week ones.
There's a little bit of redemption factor here too.

That charge the more reason that I don't think they're
going to lose this. So all right, let's talk about
the Cowboys. You are they for real? They're now what
six five and one? Seven five and one? What are they?
Sixty five and one?

Speaker 2 (14:06):
The time might actually help them I'm worried it's too late.
But adding Quinn Williams from the Jets has been huge.
He's been awesome. Some guys on defense have gotten healthy.
I mean, Pickens, Lamb, and Dak have been amazing. I mean,
that's unbelieved. That's the best offense going right now. But
the defense has been so bad all year until just
recently that defense has turned a corner. But I'm just

worried with the standings. It might just be a couple
weeks behind, but they're in the hunt. I had them
losing the last two weeks Eagles and Chiefs, and they
won both of them. So they're they're doing all they
can to make that push.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Their schedule is tough, Lions, Vikings Chargers, well actually not
terrible lines Vikings Chargers, Commander's Giants so navigable. That's a
big one coming up against the Lions. And that's Thursday night.
That might even be like a loser leaves town. Man,
it could be, you think.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
So yeah, And yet another game. I know the Cowboys,
America's team. I get it. They're prim time a lot.
Do they only play Sunday night, Monday night or Thursday night?
Now it feels like Eric, thanks you every week. The
Cowboys are like the game it seems here lately and
now we're getting it again Thursday. But I'm glad it
is because I do think the loser this could be
a knocky out game, even though there's still a few

weeks left.

Yeah, I I I'm I think they. I think it
is a loser leaves town match. And I'm also pretty
big on the Cowboys. I think they've looked good, even
in a couple of their losses before that, I think
they had looked good.

I think it's gonna turn out. You know, it's a
bad pr move for losing Michael Partersy both do well
from it with the picks they got and then going
out and getting Williams has been a stud I mean,
Cowboys could end up winning that deal if they If
they do not get ready to help them build both people.

The early game was Packers Lions. As we talked about,
I well, I meant to only seeing parts of this
game because I was at my family's Thanksgiving playing pool
with Mario and my family eating cast or roles. But
I did see the ending and I heard that Dan
Campbell punched a wall. He was so upset. That is

not the Thanksgiving spirit that I like to hear, but
I understand as the Lions continue to disappoint.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Yeah, team I thought could be an NFC contender for
a one seed earlier in the year is now fighting
to stay in the playoffs. It's your holiday, it's Thanksgiving,
you got a rival. You got to finish the job.
And how's a tough loss Gibbs had at home? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (16:41):
At home?

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Gibbs had a terrible game, a guy that's been awesome
for them lately. Giving up thirty one points to the
Packers just just a bad look all the way around.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Yeah. I do you think not having Ben Johnson, Matt
Matters or even Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn Do you
think losing the coordinators affected the Lions more than probably
a lot of people thought it would.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Yeah. I mean, and Johnson's especially looks different. Yeah, and
you know we'll get to Ben Johnson. He's as hot
as anyone right now. But yeah, losing him had to
be big. They've still been able to score some points,
but they should be able to score points with the offense.
They have them and they have some absolute weapons and
that's why the last Thursday was so disappointing for a
guy like Gibbs who just finds the end zone. It's
routine for him. They just couldn't get much going.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
I think that I think the Packers are I'm not
gonna I'm still putting the Rams as my favorite from
the NFC, but the Packers to me might be second.
I think they're really really good. And I think Jordan Love.
With Jordan Love, I call him two out of three.
I said that, like I always call him that. I'm
giving him that name. I don't act like I've been

always calling him two out of three. Okay, but Old
two out of three, which is two out of three
games he looks like Momes and then one game he
disappoints you. But I think what's good is his disappointing
games have are becoming less and less putrid. So that way,
Old two out of three, if he gives you two
great performances and one mediocre, you can win with that.

(18:11):
And if he ever becomes Old three out of four, oh,
then we might have a potential super Bowl winner.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
And there their two stars were huge in this game.
Love had like four touchdowns, no interceptions, And we mentioned
the Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
Trader big Micah Parsons.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
Parsons is the big reason Gibbs didn't have much of
a game. He absolutely wrecked them, great all the way,
all around game for the Packers, but those two specifically,
they're stars on each side of the ball. Showed up
on Thanksgiving Day and.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
This was definitely the Okay Micah Parsons, you know, you know,
think about him, He's played on Thanksgiving like all the
time he's He probably thought when he got when he
was like, oh, if you ever leave the Cowboys, at
least I'll have Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
No point. Nope, they got three sacks. I mean he
was he lived in the backfield. Yes, Golf still had
a pretty good game, but I mean Parsons was eating
them up.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Yeah. So nice win there. Now it's time to talking
about things people care about the most. Chicago Bears Friday.
They looked great. I mean, they were the best team
throughout the game. They dominated the game. Caleb Williams actually
wasn't great. I mean I actually don't think he played

(19:18):
particularly well and they still won. And that's what's making
me excited is this Bears team. I'm not gonna act
like it's the great Bears defenses of the eighties and
even the nineties. But they're good. But the playmakers, the
receivers swift. And then Caleb, even though I don't think
he played great, you get him out of the pocket
and you get him scrambled and things start happening. And

that was the first game to win on the road
in Philadelphia that I thought, Okay, this isn't just a
team that can make the playoffs. Maybe they can win
a game or two.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
Yeah, Philly's got some offensive problems, but their defense has
been their calling card all year. That defense has been awesome.
And the Bears almost ran for three hundred yards on
the defense. I mean they had two running backs with
one hundred and twenty ishue each, maybe even more.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
And pretty much much whatever they wanted to do run
the football they could. They ran up the middle, they
were able to get on the corners, and it just
looked to me like the Eagles were baffled by the
whole thing. And then of course they're offense. I mean,
there were there are Philly fans calling for Jalen Hurts.
What's the backups name, Tommy branch or something like that.

Is that his name? The fact that no, I think
his name is like Tommy Branch. See if that's his.

watched a full Eagles game with sound because I'm always
watching red zone. Their fans are so mean.

Yeah, they live up to that reputation.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
They're so mean. I mean, they're always booing people. My
mom was was very disappointed in them. Holiday weekend, everyone's
with their families and they're out booing people. Yeah, I mean,
can you imagine going out with your family on Thanksgiving
and just yelling and being angry.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
Let's go Boo the quarterback. They just want us to
Super Bowl. Honey, you're done eating, Let's go Boo. Jalen hurts.
It is wild that after he had the big gear
and the Nike ads come out, there are people like us,
even a top fifteen quarterback, and maybe and it looks like.

Saquan's already washed. Like it looks like running backs. Running
backs really hit a wall. They just stink immediately, like
they have a moment, however long it is is and
there's no like nice, graceful aging. You just all of
a sudden show up with sun spots and moles and

you're hideous. And I feel like that's what's happened to
Sakwan Barkley. He's got to still be tired from last year.
I think he has one game this year with one
hundred yards, which is nuts after he about ran for
a billion last year. And it's the second straight game
where they've thrown the ball a lot to AJ Brown
and it's caused them to lose. So do you think

the Panther's crowd. I don't know when I've heard them

watched the Hallmark Bills movie. The opening scene is that
the Hallmark Bills movie. They made a Christmas Bill's love story.

it's showing the tailgating. Now what channel is the Hallmark?

I have a friend that lives in Louisville and she
is only in Hallmark movies.

But she's like the friend in every Hallmark movie. So
I don't know if you watch Hallmark movies, but a
lot of them are filmed in Oldham County, Kentucky for
some reason, and she plays like friend of the bride
in all of them. So if you watch a lot,
you might see this red hair girl that's like, well,
weren't you the friend of the person in the other movie?

And she's been in like eight Hallmark movies in the
last two years.

It's so sweet. They just keep making them. I mean,
you don't have to change up your acting like I'll

keep talking, confessing that I watched the Bills Love Storm movie,

enjoyed Ray Davis is in the Bill. Yes, I enjoyed.
It's literally like they took our trip and made a
Christmas love movie out of it.

watched this guy play for the Titans for several years.

And I saw Ceedee Lamb on a podcast this weekend,
just raving about Wandell Robinson and how he's one of
the best receivers in the league this year. So you know,

quietly for a two win team. Happy to see that
and seeing other receivers give this credit. I feel like
