Speaker 1 (00:04):
All right, we're gonna do episode one thirty seven and
welcome to our bonus podcast, over Promise.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
How are you not fired up? NFL Draft week? We
got NBA playoffs. My Mets suck.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Dude, lot going on, They're the worst the Lace. Now
we are going to welcome a very special guest on
this episode of over Promised, a rock star, real rock
star from the Van Poison. We welcome Brett Michaels because
he's actually performing in Pittsburgh for the NFL Draft.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Sweet, So, Brett Michaels on standby, wait to just say hi.
We'll get to Brett a second, but before we do,
you want to go over some of our favorite NFL
Draft moments real quick of NFL past.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yeah, but I can't ignore the fact that you drove
your pen over there. I'm gonna have to survive.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
If you like our show, remember you could watch us
Monday through Friday on Fox Sports Radio two to four
on the West, five to seven on the East. Right
here on our YouTube page at coven O Rich FSR
so hit subscribe. But let's get into it. Some of
our favorite moments in the NFL Draft. One that comes
to mind for me is ceed Lamb because you know
him now, he's legend now. But when he got drafted,

(01:12):
how awkward it was with his girlfriends?

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Of course, I because.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Listen, not every drafted NFL history has provided smartphones and
iPhones or anything. He's on his phone and he has
another phone girl. His girlfriend's trying to grab his shit
and he's like nah.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
He's like nah, I don't know who's hitting me up.
I have to imagine there's a million people hitting him up,
and that's an awkward situation. Like no, because that's only
going to start a fight right there. It could be
some X, could be a bunch of uh, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Trifle on Hussys.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
There you go looking to say, hey, congratulations.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
He's like no, no, no, no, And I want to celebrate.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Another funny moment along the same lines is it becomes
a family ordeal. But it's also like an opportunity for
the girlfriends to get some shine.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Of course, because they want they want in on.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
They want in on the moment. It is a big moment.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
You see the lobby of an n A feller, NBA
drafts women waiting.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
So there was a player named Isaiah Wilson and he's
there with his girlfriend and the camera goes to him
when he's drafted and mama comes in. He's like, nahuh
not in this moment. This is our family moment.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Beat it. She pulls the girlfriend away and throws her
out of the frame. WHOA yeah, okay, that will always
make me lad.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Bulls are right out of the shot. He was drafted
by the Titans. He became a rapper.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
I think, right, that's an issue since but but but
that that's cemented here burnt memory grabbing the phone, the girlfriend.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
They're trying to get the shot. I love that. The
mom spock, can you played one more time?

Speaker 1 (02:41):
She she was overstepping though, like you think the mom
was over stepping.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
No, no, I love it.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Oh god no, I mean, what's your girlfriend doing? It's
it's not about her. It's about the family here. And
that's why you always keep girlfriends. That's why he always
keep girlfriends and new relationships at the end of the
family photos so you could always crop them out. Listen,
you can't make that moment about her.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
I gotta say this, I'm not the best at NFL
draft moments because do you remember me? I was the
guy that was like Trey Lance. He's gonna change the
Niners forever. So I've had some missteps on my own.
You think your team picks the guy and they don't.
I mean, we all remember Aaron Rodgers sitting around forever.
But another one that comes to mind for me was
the COVID year. Not only did we see the sweet
House of Cliff Kingsbury, we saw Bill Belichick with his dog.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Bill Belichick with his dog was awkward.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
I remember the dog took.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Over and his dog we're not talking about like Rob
Gronkowski was actually his dog. And yeah, you saw Belichick,
but you know what we also saw like that weak
ass moment where Goodell's in his basement, like in his slippers,
with the wood paneling this dead. That whole thing was
so weird, but we were all just trying thing. But yeah,
that's sort of in my memory too, like he was

(03:56):
in his basement, That's what I picture his office. COVID
sucked ass, but Belichick with his dog at the table
was definitely awkward.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
A legendary one for a legendary shitty guy.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Brett Farv.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Brett Farv's sitting there like the losery is with his
Denimon and the phone. But it is a classic funnel.
You got to give, you gotta get your adit where
credits due.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
And the family there, you know, and you're gonna have
that whole family moment with Fernando Mendoza this week.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
I mean I changed my mind on that. I remember,
I took it back. I took it all back. No choice,
no choice. I mean Fernando is saying everything perfect. Yeah,
and Kathrow one more in there. As far as the
moments that we remember, I think we all remember a
guy that was so loved and then he said of
became a Putts Russell Wilson, dangerous, dangerous, unlimited. It's just

(04:48):
that terrible photo of his first wife in her excitement.
It's almost sad and hilarious at the same time because
she's so excited and happy for him.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
But that photo is just terrible, and I feel like
it haunts him in his life today still because that's
such a magical memory. Do you think enough to have
that be part of it? Is just so embarrassing.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
He's with Sierra, they're happy, he's won a super Bowl,
He's he's the man, even though he's cringey. Do you
think enough to have his passed where him and his
ex wife because I think they do share a kid.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah, you think they look back and like, yeah, it's funny.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
I don't know. I think it's embarrassing. I think it's
embarrassing for all of them, even though a great moment.
And speaking of Russell Wilson, shout out to Zach Wilson's
mom remember her NFL draft? Yeah, you know, you know what.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
You're gonna see tomorrow night. You're gonna see a lot
of moms. You're gonna you're gonna see a lot of couches.
You're like, that's what, That's how they live.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Can I tell you?

Speaker 2 (05:38):
The reality is we're at the age now. If you're
in your forties, you're you're around the age of these
young men's moms.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
So you me peering at the mom and at their
living room.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Oh, actually furniture, living spaces. Oh, they went to Bob's.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
They love It's Oh okay, alright, well listen, we said
it before, and I think it's time to bring in
a rock legend who's going to be performing in Pitts
tomorrow night, Ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Brett Michael's on over promised.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
First of all. Thank you for having me on. I'm
so fared up. We tried to give you some good
scenery back.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
That's awesome, dude, it looks great. I love it.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Man.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
What's going on.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
I'm doing good. I brought the football, I said, Dad said,
cover it up, man, ball security.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Gotta do that, man, Dude, Brett, Michaels, Coveno and rich
Over promised, good to see my friend. Well, I mean
you got to be fired up to take the stage
tomorrow at the NFL Draft.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
I mean that's big.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
This is huge for me. This is bucket listream come true.
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Butler, Pennsylvania, technically,
you know, came to every Steelers game as a kid,
still every Steelers game. And I just got to tell
you I'm show ready right now. Like we've been rehearsing,
putting the show together for the music for Friday Night.

(06:51):
We hit that stage by point fifteen to kick off
the Friday Night Draft with nothing but a Good Time,
which is the kickoff song here at this at the stadium.
And you have no idea how fired up by him?
I think you can tell.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
I mean you already got your you got your hat
ready your Steelers.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
I love it man, Hey dude, And as a Pittsburgh guy,
you know, big fan obviously of the Steelers. Like you said,
there's always that mutual respect between rockstar and athlete. You
know on your come up? Did you have that mutual
respect with Big Ben or Andy Van Sley like or
Barry Bonds like? Who are some of these guys that
you became friends with along the way you saw at

(07:30):
the show? Surprised to meet? Tell us about that?

Speaker 4 (07:33):
So again, growing up not only as a Steeler fan, right,
but also growing up loving the Bucos right depends right now.
We're in it. We're never out of it. Yes, We're
never out of it. Flyers are tough. It's the battle
for Pennsylvania right now right Uh in hockey. But I've
got to meet almost all of them. Got to hang out, Uh,

(07:55):
Rocky Blyer and me just recently one of the games,
Uh brought on all the bad turns from my dad's VFW.
We brought him out on the field to open up
Monday Night football. Terrible towels going there was supposed to
be a towel. I don't have it with me next
time I see just picture a terrible towel going.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Right there, Ai put an Ai tallo in the don't ai.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
So many people had your posters hanging up, you know,
back in the eighties even today. Uh, what teams did
you have? What players did you have in your room
growing up?

Speaker 4 (08:27):
So here's what I had on the wall. Long story,
super short. One poster is Terry Bradshaw, right, because I
we we got him to sign stuff when I was
a kid. We go to La Trobe. I'm a sports fanatic,
so sports music, family friends. This is bucket list, right, Yeah,
So Terry Bradshaw right beside him, Jimmy Page nice, all right,

(08:49):
you got some led Zeppelin guitar double neck, right, and
then you've got you got Terry Bradshaw up on the wall.
And then of course Jack Lambert. And that was growing up.
I've been blessed with Mike Tomlin family friend. You know,
a ton of nothing but winning seasons, a lot of
Super Bowls here Sixburg, you know. And uh, and then

(09:12):
again Mike McCarthy come home, heavy on offense. We're gonna
pick well in the draft. And I'm a believer and
i I'm here in Pittsburgh to welcome every single fan
every single fan in the NFL, and most importantly, I said,
besides the music, me and Wiz Khalipa whooping it up
on stage, it's gonna be a shindig of a hoot nanny.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Hell yeah, I want.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
I want to talk about the draft itself, but I
want to get back to the poster thing for a second,
because I remember, I'm a New York guy, so I
had I had New York mets. I had a Gary
Carter poster. I had some of those eighties guys, and
then there came a time where I replaced it with
Cindy Crawford, and I remember my mom being like, what
is he doing? Do you remember the transition of sports posts?

(09:57):
And You're like, not gonna put a girl off there.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
So yeah, so here's the transition, right, Yeah, I did this.
I've never been yelled at as much by my parents.
So I decided one weekend their way, I cut every
single picture I could get. Now here's how I did it.
I was smart. I'm going to say this right, cutting
out beautiful women. Yeah, it was a magazine. They weren't

(10:20):
all they might have not had everything all. Yes, a
different time, different times. I wish I could just burst.
But I'm just gonna say it was exciting. So I
did it like this. It was like a collage. So
I would go like this, I cut it out and
then the next thing, you know, I'd cut out the
picture of motocross. Then i'd have football, and I did

(10:41):
an entire wall. Let's call a decapage, right, lack of
a better term, a collage on my wall. It was great.
My parents came back and flipped out. So it's sports
and beautiful women.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
It was I'm so glad that Michael said that because
Comino and I always say, I can't comprehend how people
don't associate all the things, like men love sports music women.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
I don't know why we don't talk about them, bore.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
They all go hand in hand for sure, And.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
It's it's awesome and and I love sports music. Nothing
but a good time. This is nothing but a good
Drapta in Pittsburgh. And I got to say something. When
my parents came back and they saw it all, They're like, look,
we had to write posters. We'd let you scotch tape them.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Up there and tack them right, yeah, fun tack.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
It gets better. They made me go buy wood paneling right.
This is where I got my handyman skills. I went
and got wood paneling, had to tack it in with
the wall text and cover it all. And then I
went back to the two posters. I went back to
my Zeppelin and Terry Bradshaw posters.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Well, dude, much like Rich I had, I had Don
Mattinglee that I had Cindy Crawford, but I also had
these really hot dudes, you know, the guys from Poison.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
Yeah, yeah, same sentence. You got, you got Cindy, you
got Maddingly that's a good day.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
Oh and look what the cat dragged in. And like
I said, the four hottest dudes there ever were you
know on my wall. My parents like, what's that?

Speaker 4 (12:09):
That's a half truth?

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Yeah, look at that, Look at that. Look at the
likit of these guys. You know, I remember you know this.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
Ahead, I've got something to say. First, I want to
throw it out there. It's important for me to get
this out there this draft. Although we're entertaining and having
a good time because the NFL has been amazing to
work with, but I just want to say again, this
is about young lives that are about to change. Talented
yeah players, and I want to make sure the world.

(12:38):
I know we're talking sports and music and having fun,
but this is life changing and the fact I get
to be here in my hometown and welcome everybody. I'm
welcoming all NFL teams, all the fans, and we're gonna
have a great.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
Butt that we we talked about.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
That's like the coolest part of the draft to me,
at least watching knowing that that family stars have changed.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Yeah, you see, you see I can get draft and.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
You know that family every everything changes, any struggles they
had financially. So many parents put everything on the line
for their kids and those moments are special.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Man, everything. And as a father, you know, I bring
my kids here all the time. We're always throwing up
my two daughters rayin Elizabeth, Georgia Blue. We're throwing we
bring the teams on with the terrible towels. It's it's
all an amazing day and it's it's life changing. But
as a sincerely is a Type one diabetic. And I
mean this six years old, uh, not knowing when my

(13:31):
future was going. Back then, they didn't have quite the Uh.
I'll tell you how long ago that was Tom Sieber.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
That was on my wall they go.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
I had Tom up there on the wall pitching. You
remember the infamous poster. Yeah, it was like the greatest,
greatest poster anyway. The but that's when I was diagnosed
at six years old. And I'm just saying this. It
was a the music and sports combo and family and
friends that believed in me. And here I am five

(14:01):
injections a day since I've been six years old. To
be able to hang out and talk with you and
get to be able to do this, it's inspiring my life.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
God bless you man, and you look fantastic, and thanks
for your time, and thank you for hanging out if
you're if you're just listening. Fret's got his his cowboy
hats Steelers cowboy hat on looking tremendous. And you know what,
time's flying.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
Kind I got to come on this show every day.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Hey, we appreciate it. It's Fox Sports Radio over promised
with Brett Michaels and Dude, I mentioned the album that's
nineteen eighty six already like forty years ago. How are
you keeping the music alive for the younger generations? All
these young people that are going to be watching you
this weekend, Like, how do you, how do you keep
it alive?

Speaker 4 (14:45):
Simple? I'm as passionate today as I was then. I've
been blessed with three maybe four generations of fans now,
and I just got to be honest with you. I
give a one thousand percent on that stage. It's it's
as live now as was then, nothing but live music.
But I think what it is is sincerity. They know

(15:06):
what I believe in it. I grew up playing it.
I bring real live music to stage. But the most
important thing anyone can have, just like a player, just
like a ballplayer, if you're sincere and your heart is there,
the fans want to come feel that and see that,
and we make it an exciting show. And I'm just
grateful for all the great fans and for you all
having me on.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Of course.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Man Brett Michaels here at CNR, you're you're a big
Steelers fan.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Is Aaron Rodgers holding you guys hostage? Or what is he?

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Is he keeping you guys in limbo? Have you called
him up? Have you reached out to Aaron Rodgers?

Speaker 3 (15:37):
Brett?

Speaker 4 (15:38):
I said, listen, we did a Monday night football thing together, right, said?
I said, Aaron, you're Hall of Fame you're coming back.
It's going to be great. We got Will Howard, we
got Mason Rudolph. I think we're going to get a
little bit on the O line. I'm just throwing it
out there, a little back up there, some safety maybe,
you know, going on. Just throwing it out there. And

(15:59):
why we're.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
Reunited with McCarthy and McCarthy.

Speaker 4 (16:04):
McCarthy's a winning coach. Like I said, I'm family friends
with Mike Tomlin, his family and all those winning seasons.
And I'm welcome Mike McCarthy back home. I said, Yin's
coming back home to Pittsburgh or not.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Hey, bra I gotta ask you this, mane, you're so
passionate about your Pittsburgh Steelers, the pit for Pittsburgh sports.
Bona fide rock star. But were you a good athlete
growing up?

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Man?

Speaker 1 (16:26):
Did you play sports growing up?

Speaker 3 (16:28):
I did.

Speaker 4 (16:29):
You're gonna get the pictures. So we do a lot
and now and then go to Brett Michaels dot com. Okay,
you see me in the field, the old school. You
can't explort wild.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Well, so then we're growing up where people surprised you
became a rock star, Like did they think you were
just gonna work in sports or be an athlete or no.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
I love both.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
They did it, always.

Speaker 4 (16:49):
Did every junior high, elementary, junior high, high school band.
They knew. I loved both. I raced dirt bikes. That
was my big thing. I raced pro ams. I loved it.
Still do. I ride with my kids and my wife
and we have the best time ever. And honestly, God
we do. We have a great time. And but never
once I never once took my eyes off the prize.

(17:11):
It just I say this, whether I ended up as
a weekend warrior or got to play, whether I made
it like we just got to play city field, we
get to come back and play all the stadiums. It's
an amazing day.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
That's incredible.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
Honestly, I would have kept going even if I just
played in the weekend with my friends. That's how much
music and sports means to me. And you can laugh.
I just took all all my buddies in Pittsburgh and Mechanicsburg,
all of our baseball and football teams got together and
played football. And then the next day, after we stretched
out the Hammis, we went to the Oak Show and

(17:46):
played with football nice we went Oo style.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
You still got it, you still got all.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
No, we were good man, we had we had a
great time.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Nice love. That is the best you know you we
play still yeah, absolutely worse.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
Listen, besides the legendary music career, his love of sports. Dude,
you you were, you won the Celebrity Apprentice, you had
rock a love And I'm sure we've talked about those
things so many times over the years. Mess Singer, My
kids watched Mess Singer love it. What was like singing
in a costume? Was that a wild experience?

Speaker 4 (18:22):
This is see I love this question because this is
the craziest thing ever no one so Tony Hawk was
on my season. We built up. I built a room
down in uh Rivie Meyer, right, I built it Zias
room thing, Tony Stain it were friends. I never knew
the entire time I was on that set. That's how

(18:43):
quiet we're in Darth Vader outfits, like we don't speak,
we don't talk. They walk you to the stage and
then I'm in a banana. Who knew I'm going to
be the first one to reveal this to you? Right?
I picked banana for one two reasons. One healthy your
diabetic If you need to bring the blood shirtar up right,
number two, black and yellow, and everyone that knew me

(19:06):
as a Steeler fan got and I get to represent
a little bit. But I had to sing through my
banana pie hole and that thing. They don't really tell you.
They let you go. I designed it. The eyes and
the mouth are in the same hole, and I could
not see. If you watch that show, half the time,

(19:27):
you see me stumbling around. I don't know where the
stage ends or begins. I'm singing with the mic in
front of my eyes, trying to e and you're singing
for real like there's there's no like. They don't let
you wing it. You either sing it or you suck.
And so we went out. But I had the best
time ever. But I have never you will never sweat everybody.

(19:49):
I said, I've never sweated that much in my life,
but never bitched about it. I was good.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
That's awesome, man. I gotta ask you this too. You know,
you're still performing and kicking ass and mass or everything else,
and now you're sharing the stage with Whiz Khalifa. I
always thought that there needed to be more collaborations in rock.
Do you think we could be getting more of that
in the future? How do you feel about that.

Speaker 4 (20:11):
If it's up to me, that's what. If you study
what my party girl, they go to Brett Michaels, whether
they're a fan of the music, not a fan of
a sports, or they know me from mass singer rock,
whatever it is, my whole thing is about to mash up.
So you watch one of my party girls. We got
every genre music, bringing everyone up on stage. No egos.

(20:32):
Our first thing is leave your egos at the arena
door or the amphitheater door, come up on stage. And
Brett Michael's band is incredible. They go up there, we
learn every song and we mash it up like that,
and Wiz and I do totally from the get go
understood what this was. He does a couple, I do
a couple, and at the end we do a song

(20:54):
together and just light it up for fans that are
coming out that a good time.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Is there another rock act that you wanted to collaborate
with that maybe you never got a chance to, maybe
a newer rock act, anyone else you want to put
on that list.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
There's a ton of them. I mean, I love Green
Day kicking off the super Bowl and they said earlier
in their career they were inspired by songs like top
dirty to me, stuff like that's a good that's a
great feeling. And but to tell you the truth, there's
so many The list goes on.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
He's a Stealers fan. How do you feel about the
Bumblebee uniform? Did they got to get rid of that one?
Or do you like when they rocked that once a year?

Speaker 4 (21:31):
I need a once a year Bumblebee forgot. I got
no way to judge anybody ever in life. I was
