Speaker 1 (00:10):
Welcome to pod meets t World, a podcast that one's chronicled.
Two guys who had never seen Dancing with the Stars
but watched a season and somehow walked away experts.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
From there, we ventured into Traders, a show I'd never seen,
but one Will swore he could win. And now we turn.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
To Survivor season fifty, the Big One, and this time
the roles are reversed. Will has seen exactly one season,
the first one. Meanwhile, I've watched for years. We are
Wilford l who prefers his wilderness with room service, and
Right or Strong, who will hike any mountain but hates
the beach. Two best friends, one devoted to the comforts
of civilization, one who would never leave the woods if
(00:46):
he could. Both reality competition scholars yep, join us as
we dive into Alliance's blind sides, fire making, sand related misery,
and twenty five years of television history culminating in a
single massive season.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
This is Odd meets Twirled Seeking Immunity. Yes, all right?
Speaker 1 (01:05):
In your journey through Survivor, how did this episode didn't
make you feel better?
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Are you still not into it? I'm still my god,
I don't like the show. I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
It's it's it's literally just people sitting around lying to
each other and and having our awful conversations about who
to aids.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Is no traders completely that with samon locks being taken,
there's all it.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Is three people lying on traders, everyone else telling the truth.
The point is to go and find the liars in
this wonderful pageantry. It's so over the top and crazy.
This takes itself so seriously and it's just it's five
minutes let's walk on the beach and and and and
uh swim in the ocean to Untie Knots, and then
(01:49):
ninety minutes of them.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Going who should we kick off? I think we should
kick this person off. I think we should kicked it.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
And then people sitting there like staring at the camera.
The people are annoying. I like nobody.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
I don't like the show.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
This is.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
This is This gets to the heart of like a
major difference between you and me in that we both
like a reality show where people I think are sort
of tasked with the same thing, which is do you
trust people or do you not?
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Right? Whereas I think you like a level of.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Irony and humor and sort of like playfulness, yes, and
I like a certain level of like life or death
steaks or earnestness. But again, there's no life or death.
Like Sue and I were watching last night and she's like,
what happened to the chickens?
Speaker 3 (02:32):
What do they do with the chickens? Are do they
kill the chickens? Do they get eggs with the chickens?
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yeah, they just don't, don't.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
I know, they don't know any of that. What's going on?
Do they get the chicken? Are these people eating? Are
they not eating? It is a high school cafeteria, which
is the worst place in the world.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Put on an island, that's all it is.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
But they're at least they're on an island, and they
really are struggling. They are starving at all. I know,
you're you're just you're just seeing the way that they're
editing it. I totally get that, and but but it's
increasing the stakes for them in a way that when
they are deciding whether to trust each other or not,
they're literally going to eat or not or you know,
like the whereas like traders, I just look at it
(03:13):
and I'm like.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Well, this is just like fun.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
You know, mostly rich people sitting around playing like a
board game for ten days.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
It's a fun game. Well again, some people are rich,
some people aren't. And survivors the same way. You know,
some of these survivors have made a ton of money
being reality stars, but the same way.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
You know, the stakes are so much. Don't in survivor
showing me any of this. I know, but you but
they are like we had Sophie on the show, like
she telling me, right, but.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
A good television show, I should be able to have
never seen it before, come in and get what the
show is. I shouldn't have to talk to somebody who's
seen the other forty nine episode of forty nine seasons
to tell me the Hey, here's what they're not showing you.
Here's why it's really tough. Well, then you're showing me
half a story. A good show anybody should could be it.
(04:01):
You never saw Traders, you sat down, you got it
right away. Because every season is kind of the same format.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
They do this.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
I shouldn't get into a show where it's like I
don't know what's going on.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
I'm just supposed to have seen.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
All of the episodes before, and that's how I'm supposed
to have known what's going on. So they're going to
take out the survivor of Survivor and just make it
for the people that are already fans.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
That's bullsh But.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
See, I think what's funny is that the what you're
actually seeing on screen is identical. They're just in Traders,
They're just in nice outfits in a nice castle eating loss.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
See I disagree. It's like literally and they're like playing.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
They're like walking around like a beautiful grounds and like
everyone's in crazy outfits. So it has this, like I said,
this level of like distance and iron h to it.
That for you makes it more fun because it's like,
like the stakes are never supposed to be high, whereas
this you're mad that the stakes are implied to be higher,
(04:57):
but you don't get to experience those high stakes.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Well it's got to be one. You can't have your
cake and eat it too.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
If it's a high stakes thing, show me the high
what's actually happening is identical. Like the complaint that you
have for Survivor you could apply to Traders. No, but
it's not a group of liars. But Traders is not
twenty liars. They pit they purposely pick three liars.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Okay, watching decide whether they can trust each other or not.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Right right, But it's but again, but again, when when
they're all at Tryina and I'm jumping ahead, but when
they're all tribal council later.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
One of the things the tribal councils.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
By the way, if I have to hear the music
in the background of these tribal councils one more time,
I'm going to start swinging on whoever sitting next to me.
So I feel bad. It's awful. It's like, oh my god, up.
So they're sitting there, Will we got angry?
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Will this sport?
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Oh God? They're sitting there? Because I'm like, how, how? What? What?
Speaker 3 (05:49):
This is a show made for people that are already
fans of this show.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
It's like, that's all this is. So they even say like.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
They're sitting there and they're going, oh yeah, I know
that I'm being put this there. I'm here with twenty
six amazing liars, and the first thing that goes in
my head is like, how does Ryder like this?
Speaker 2 (06:05):
He hates lying, he hates people that lie.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
And now not only that, but they're not even showing
the thing that Rider would love is the actual survival skills.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Now, it's just the lying. How does Ryder still like
the show? I couldn't.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
I couldn't wrap my head around it. I don't like
a lot of the people. Some of them are fine.
I've connected with nobody. So again, if you don't know
who these people are going in, you don't learn anything
about them at all. So it's just, hey, man, I
hate her, and oh my god, I'm gonna hand you
my jacket?
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Why what? What did Is that something I should know?
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Okay, well, then cut back to what happened in a
last season to show me why she wanted to hand
somebody her jacket.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
It's like he might as well. Somebody might turn.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Around and go choop boop, but choop poop, and everybody goes,
oh my god, he didn't, and I'm going, what, What's
what's going on? So they're literally just making this show
for people who already watch this show, and that's a
dumb ass way to do it. No.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
I totally get your criticism.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
I totally get your complaints, but I think, like the
blanket thing, you could see what was going on, Like I,
that didn't need to be established that she just was
doing a nice thing.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
You know, she said it was important for me to
hand over my jacket, and they're like, that was a
great way to end a great wrap around. They're clearly
stating that this had happened in the past and somebody
had handed her jacket or some it was a callback
to her season.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
I didn't get that.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
I literally just thought it was like, no, oh, she's
just gonna be nice and give them something to keep
them warm, even though they voted her out.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
That's why they all looked at her and they're like, oh, man,
that's so cool that you did the saying that happened
that we're not explaining at all awesome, And I was like,
what the.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Hell is going on?
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Yeah, so yeah, I guess that, man, But I still
think it's funny to I think it's like I think, yeah, like,
I think this season is not the not a good
one for.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
You to come in on. Oo, I gotta start earlier ones. Apparently.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Yeah, but I'm surprised that you can't, like cause, like,
what you're actually watching, to me is truly not that different,
except in tone, not.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Just tone, but also the care.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
It's also casting because the there's such characters on Trader
that you and I are still going, I tink, I'm
gonna watch season Trade exactly stuff like that, and none
of these people stand out.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Well, that's that distancing. I think that like, that's that
earnestness thing.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
That like I've always loved when people are you know,
you're saying, well, yeah, I guess. So it's like, no,
it's not even that because they're not all lying. I
think they're all trying to you know, forge alliances, and
they just are finding themselves in a position where they
have to lie, or they have to leave out information,
or they have to you know, deal with Lyne in
a way that on Traders, there's an assumption, especially if
(08:42):
you're a trader, that that's what's going to happen, and
so there's no there's like the stakes are just so
like like what it came down to with Traders when
Rob won last season.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
It's like you couldn't fault him.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
You could never say, like this person is a good
or bad person, even though what he was doing was
pretty objectively bad. Because of the level of distancing that
the show creates around its gameplay, it's like it's all
up for grabs, like you could be you could go
in pretending with an accent, and you know, if you
weren't a celebrity and like everyone would be like fair game, they.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Won, or you know whatever.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Whereas in Survivor there's a level of like you're here
to like be your best self, to truly reveal yourself.
You're like, we're gonna strip you down. It's like the
psychological spermen. We're gonna strip you of your social conventions,
You're clothing literally, you're like the shirt off your back.
We're gonna strip you down, take away all the tools
of your normal life, your money, your car, your house,
(09:34):
your whatever your comfortable American life is. We're gonna strip
all that away and put you with other people and
see how you actually act.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
And I find that I know that that that's not
that sounds like the first couple of seasons of the show. Yes,
and I know that that's not what you're really seeing.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
I get that, But I also think that you probably
don't buy in, like you're just less invested in that.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
No, but you say like stripping a clothes off their back.
At one point, coach walks in and jeans and a shirt. Right,
They're not stripping clothes off of any body's back. One
guy changed three times. They only have one little bag
and the clothes that they're allowed to write. I know,
but so as far I mean again, they challenge is
that they did was like fourteen minutes of the ninety
minute show I watched. The rest of it is literally
(10:13):
just hoping the three people you made your friends are
going to.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Vote the way they said they were going to. That's
the whole show. That's it. We're gonna, hey, you know
who we should vote for?
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Bob?
Speaker 2 (10:21):
Hey, hey, you know we should before Bob. Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
They didn't write Bob, they wrote you get stripped down
traders to the same ridiculous thing. It's like two people
are gonna keep lying. They're just gonna keep lying. Everybody
else is just gonna you know, And like when you
talk when you analyze what with traders, there literally was
no strategy at a certain point, I feel like our
analysis just got reduced to I guess you just got
to trust that person or not, and like there's.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
No reason like that.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
But it's also you listen when when you there's something
about with traders where if you know, you're specifically trying
to root out one thing, we're trying to find this
one liar. You're then hyper vigilant to all the things
that everybody's saying.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Like, ooh, did they okay, wait, did they say that? Yes?
Or did they say that?
Speaker 3 (11:01):
And I don't there's no real it doesn't feel the
same as it does on Survivor. And I get the
idea of what you're saying sounds awesome, and I would
love to watch that. And I think that's the first
few seasons of Survivor, because what I think Survivor is
dealing with now is the reality show whiplash, which is
the Heisenberg principle, which is when nobody had seen Survivor,
(11:23):
nobody knew what Survivor was. It's exactly that we're gonna
drop you off a boat, swim to whatever island you're at.
We're not giving you fire, we're not giving you any
of this stuff.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
That's what it is. No one knew what to expect.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
And it's essentially, let's see if it reverts to Lord
of the Flies, and eventually you're gonna have to vote
each one off, which is essentially, are we killing Piggy
this week or we're gonna kill somebody else who's got
the conch.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Which it is. It still is, but they show none
of that.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
So what it is now is it's reality TV game
players who've already played this game before. Yes, who were,
We're gonna nicely drive you in a boat now to
separate islands, which is now just the one.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
It's a set, That's all it is, is a set.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
It's no dude, I think it is still They use
the same one every season.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
It's harder to be on Survivor than it is to
be in the Castle and Traders a thousand time. Okay,
so the deprivation of your life is clearly like they're
on opposite ends of a spectrum, right.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
But show that if you're going to show the pageantry
and the glitz of Traders, show the fact that we
haven't eaten and from they're walking around, Hey do you
want to scallop?
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Sure?
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Hey, here's because catching scallops. Show me that, show me that,
show me the survivor. In Survivor, this was if you
can't find fifteen minutes in the ninety minutes, we.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Get past like the editing produce orial question, can you
accept that? Could you accept that they actually are like
actually are struggling and and and starving?
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Sure, the same way we had to accept they didn't
actually live in the castle at Traders exactly.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Over produce well for Heaven. But when they're not show
making it harder for them, one is making it easier
for them. But again, it's all just special. It doesn't matter.
It's all just what they're deciding to show us, and
they're taking the survivor of you to accept that this
is happening.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Like that, let's accept the reality that they You know,
because Sophie told me, like she didn't eat for eleven days, right,
She's like, let's accept that reality. Could you get into
the like that? Doesn't that elevate the sort of what
you're calling high school you know, shenanigans of like conversations
and who's lying? Doesn't that elevate it and make it
more intense? It does if it's a character.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
That as somebody watching the show, if the deprivation is
a character that you decide that I no longer have
to see, I just have to accept they're hungry.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
No, I want to see part of that.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
If you're gonna say you've got to accept that they're deprived,
but we're not going to show you they're deprived.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Then why do I care I just have to.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
That's like saying, you know, as far as I know,
every night they take them to a holiday in I
don't know. They're not showing me that. I have no idea.
They literally walked over this time and for somebody who
hasn't seen the show and opened a fresh water thing
and we're getting I'm like, oh, so it's all fresh water.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Okay, So they're you have access to freshwater. They like,
there is water, access to water.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Show me that stuff. And then Rizzo was sleeping in
a boat where they get a boat. I mean, it's like,
show me these things. Can they fish?
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Show me? He's honestly, yes, show me this stuff.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
The idea this is where it's made for people that
already watch Survivor. And so what they're saying is there's
two major elements to survivor.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
It it's two things. You have to survive.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
You have to survive the harshness of the land and
you have to survive the backstabbing of the game. And
now what we're going to do is we're going to
take out the harshness of the land and assume you
already know that, and now you just have to be
okay with that.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Yes, I'm asking you, as my fellow co host, to
have faith that that happens if if you can, because
otherwise you're just going to be railing against you know, yes,
but it's but that it makes.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
For bad television.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Sure, but that's what that's all I'm asking for in
television is not bad television.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
No, no, no no.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
But I think it's not bad television for those of
us who have watched every single season exactly.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Or just accept that that's the given.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
You know, you talk about the pageantry of traders, right,
and you accept that pageantry, you accept, sure, you know,
the the unreality of it in this case, you're you're
having a hard time accepting the reality of it. You're
saying that the unreality, which makes it look too easy
for them on the surface, means that you lose interest
because the reality, and I'm telling you actually the reality
(15:21):
as far as all accounts, is exactly what you're describing,
and you're not willing to accept that to enjoy the
show because you're upset that the unreality is not mirroring that.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
Do you see what I'm.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Saying, Like that's like double standard.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
No, what I'm saying is, as a television fan, afficionado addict.
When you came into Traders, you got it right away.
I didn't need to say to you, Hey, what you
needed to see for the last four seasons to really
understand what's going on is you have to understand they
blah blah blah, and they blah blah blah and they
blah blah blah. You and I could just sit down
and watch the show every week. Now you're having to
(15:57):
explain to me stuff that I don't understand because I
didn't watch the first seasons. That's just a bad television show.
That's a show made for people. The show every year
should do a recap episode the first half of the episode.
Here's what you get, you know, show them cooking a
little bit. Have a if you've got a ninety minute
show and you can't find seven minutes in the show
(16:18):
to show that I'm really hungry.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
There's no we overcooked this. We didn't catch any fish
this week.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
I honestly think what happened is that their ratings probably
dropped because people got bored of the repetitive redundancy of that.
And I think that you know, they they they're probably
reacting to the reality that, like by I don't know,
probably eight seasons in people, like I said, you know,
understood what was going on, and their fan base just
built around more of the gameplay, you know, And.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
I think they didn't I send you that thing? Didn't
I send you that thing?
Speaker 3 (16:49):
That the the Luke whatever, Luke Bryant, Luke Brown? What
have the singers came out on Zach Brown. That was
apparently the lowest rated episode of Survivor in history. Yeah,
but again, maybe maybe go the other way. Maybe ramp
it up. Like I said, you don't just lose your
flint because you've already got fire burning.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
You lose your fire.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Maybe you now have a water filtration system you have
to build because you no longer have access to the
fresh water. Maybe ramp up the Survivor part as opposed
to ramping up just the cattiness, which.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Is all it is. It's people.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
It's I'm seeing a bunch of ten year olds backstabbing
each other, going like, oh my god, I can't believe
Claire just said this about you on the playground.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
And here's what we should do.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
I have an idol so that that's.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
All Traders is. That's literally all Traders is.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
But it literally Traders literally says we're going to take
people and put them in a situation where they act
like ten year olds like and play, but.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
They're playing a game. They're playing.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
There's children's game where three people, you know, three people
are liars, not all twenty six are liars.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Well, I totally get your criticism. I just don't see
how to me, there's a double standard. I don't like
Traders and not this. I think there is a.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
Complete and total difference between a bunch of aventally now
reality show actors, which is what.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
They are, which is all traders was again agreed.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
No, no, I'm talking about Traders, and again a lot of
them are going to be mirrored that coming onto a
place where it's the pageantry, three people are going to
be liars. Yes, it's about who you're going to trust
in kind of the fun way. And all the rules
are always the same. And another one where it's exactly
the same thing on an island.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
Not all the rules are always the same, the rules
on Traders just as much as they're changing the.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
Rules and they're adding occasional thing, but that's not changing
the rule.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
It's exactly the same. The thing that they do in Survivor, like, oh,
now we have a shield. Now we can't, we won't,
we won't ever agree on this. Hold on, hold, But
I agree with everything you're just saying. They're exactly the
same show up until when, Like, at what point are
they different?
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Because what you described was exactly right. Again, there's a lot,
there's a lot a lot different.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
First of all, there's you get the there's more characters
on Traders that are playing into the fact that they're characters.
With the pageantry, with the execs, with the glamour, there's
all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
It's the fact that people on Survivor take themselves seriously
that bothers you.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
No, what bothers me is it's a show called Survivor
that doesn't show surviving at all.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
I'm saying, have faith that they are actually no, and
that the editing is not that.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
No, I'm not as a viewer who doesn't watch the
show need I shouldn't have to call my friend who
watches the same show to explain to me the faith
of why I need to watch the show.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
That's a bad television show.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
I should be able to turn on season four of
the Office and not have to call my friend to
ask who Michael Scott is or what he's about. You
get him right away. You know what's happening. It's a
good television show. I didn't need to see the first
three seasons to understand what's happening on the show. And
when I watch Survivor and again, I'm watching this and
I'm like, they're cutting to things specifically just.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
For the fans.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
And I know, for the record, people are going to
go this one's called for the fans by the fans.
That's fine, I get that. But then there's a reason
your ratings are dropping. And from a television standpoint, the
ratings are dropping because it's inside the normal people. It's
all inside base get it, just I And again it's
then inside baseball with a lot of characters I just
(20:04):
don't like.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
So in Traders, you don't you. Oh I love to
hate that guy.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Oh I love this person. Oh my god, her accent
so funny. These people are just kind of despicable. And
so I I'm just I haven't found anybody I'm rooting for.
Literally everybody is so self aggrandizing. Here's the nickname I've
given myself for this this season. And now I'm this
and oh my god, Well, don't get too cocky because
the Dragon's been released and I'm riz the god.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
See, that's that's what I like.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
That to me gets to the heart of like, what
what what I think you have a problem with, which
is that they take themselves seriously and that that that
they take this if they yes, dude, it's not that
take the Survivor too, but they are they're just not
I'm saying, like, Okay, you're.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Like, they're just not showing the Survivor.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Part of your criticism of the show as the editing
and the production totally, like I get it, like it's
working on this meta meta level, it's it's only for
the fans, totally.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
But I think that that's separate from your saying like
I don't like these people, or that they're just acting
they're acting like a caddy group of ten year olds
or whatever that criticism. That's the only part I take
issue with with what you're saying, because I'm like and
that I take issue with it. It's just my perspective.
And I think this is going back to where we started.
A huge difference between you and I is that I
(21:23):
like when people take themselves seriously. For better or worse,
and I enjoy that way more than I then watching
people play a character version of themselves or come in
with this like you know, level of distancing that allowed,
Like that level of distancing made the gameplay of Traders
fun for you and made it sort of trivial and
useless for me.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
On the flip side, in Survivor, them taking.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
Themselves seriously and like thinking that this is revealing their
true selves and like that that they're a god if
they win or not whatever, that makes Survivor tolerable for me,
whereas for you it makes it intolerable.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
But actually we're describing is the same thing.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
Like we're watching reality show people compete with one another
and form alliances or trust one another or not.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
I agree and I disagree because at the same time,
something like Dungeons and Dragons I take very seriously and
the people I play with get very seriously. But again,
it's either likable, right, But can you play these games
with Alex you got you're famous for playing all these
games that you guys have game nights and do all
this kind of stuff. Do you take it seriously or
you guys having fun?
Speaker 2 (22:24):
We're having fun.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
No, totally, but yeah, but yeah, but I'm also not
starving to death in order to do right.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
But then it then make that a part of the show.
I can say.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
That's the point is, maybe I would like these characters
more if I really, if I'm as a as somebody
who's I'm a I'm on an island of my own,
I'm in a vacuum, and this show is put on
in front of me right now, this season is put
on in front of me. And I don't like Riz
the God, and I don't like Coach, and I don't
like any of these people. But if I've seen now
they haven't eaten eleven days and they're kind of losing
it a bit, I'm gonna I'm gonna forgive them for that,
(22:56):
because I'm gonna be like, dude, he's probably.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Delusional by this point. I mean, actually, what's happening? But
I don't know that I know. The point is, I
don't know.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
But you could keep saying that, like when I close
my eyes to go to sleep at night, how do
I know the world doesn't disappear? You keep saying that
we have all the evidence telling us that the reality
is they are starving.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Will they are struggling, So.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Why don't we just do America? Why don't we do
the Why isn't the next American Idol? Nobody sings? But
we just know they can't. No, no, we know they can't.
Other people have told us they can sing. That we
don't need to see it. We have to know that
off camera they're really good at singing.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
No, it's different reality having to see them practice, like
because because the comparison is the word, because what they're
actually competing on is the challenges which we do see
start to finish, and then those determine the tribal councils
which we do see start to finish.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
So those are although that is determined by how weak
you are, how sleep deprived you are, how much you're
you're cold, how much you're wet, how much those.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
Are the things that you have to make assumptions about
or you know, coming with the.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
And you are just describing how to make a bad
television show. I'm going to make this a super important
part of the show that I'm not going to show
you at all. You just have to assume it's happening.
And I'm saying that's a bad TV show.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
All right, let's get into our recap of episode five.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
We start off with Ozzy lectured everybody back at camp,
which brings up a parallel to his Cochrane season. Christian
takes the blame for not telling Ozzy, which I thought
was a nice moment that kind of got blown by
where he's like, hey, don't blame the girls here, I've
been the one that told them not to tell you.
And it was like my first thought was like, that's
(24:54):
the kind of honor and integrity that like Coach is
always talking about, like that you don't actually see him
do I was like, in this case, Christian was like, hey,
you know I did. I had this plan. I backstabbed
you and don't blame the girls. I thought that was
super admirable.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
I also was a little scared at first because when
he's like, hey, I'll catch you up and he's like
too late, it's like oh yeah, I mean it's the
first thing he says is just like, no, you missed.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
You missed your boat to catch me up.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
Dude, And then I felt it because I was like, oh,
I would have been like wow, So then everyone's plotting
against me against me if you're not gonna put I
get the psychological stuff that stuff would it's so.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
And yeah, and that's what you can see, like you
know how like Ozzy you know that after the opening credits,
meditated in the morning, like trying to be like the
bigger man, but like still feeling his feelings, you know,
Like so he goes and he apologizes to Christian. They
hug it out. Ozzie does, Yeah he does. Okay, Yeah,
Ozzie still has his idol.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
That was gifted to him.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
I think, by Gene God, I'm losing track of how
he got it.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
The Billie Eilish thing is too hard.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Yes, you know, he says, it was trying to be Yeah,
so he still got his idol. Okay, Yeah, And I
you know, like I feel this man, like if you
got if I, if I got backstabbed, I would have
a hard.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
Time just being like gool for or games a game, you.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Know, like cool, but you gotta I have to say something. Yeah,
And it's to your point from before maybe and it's
this is quite possible. This says, Oh my god, this
is I need to talk to a psychiatrist kind of thing.
What this could be bringing me back to is times
in like middle school and high school where you find
out there's a party and your friends were there and
weren't invited. Totally, man, that kind of stuff it brings
(26:33):
Maybe it's the adjuta.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
I'm feeling that it brings me back.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
To it and it's real. It's not game friends, dude,
and it feels real. And that's dude. I feel the
same way. This is This is why I think I
would be really bad at any of these kinds of things.
Is I take the ship so personally and like.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
And you know, like they talk about later on in
this episode.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
I think it was Devon's at tribal Council about how
important it is to see the show that you were on,
to see how.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
Other people react behind your.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Back, and I was like, yes, that's why I don't
want to be out of reality because I like living
in the delusional world where I'm the coolest person and
like people don't talk about me behind my back and
no one knows anything about me ever, Like I know
that's not true, but I also don't want to see it.
I don't want to hear it. I don't even This
is why, like being a public figure sucks so bad,
(27:19):
Like being on reality. It's like I like, that's what
I like about being an actor is that you're within
the context of the movie or the show being Traders,
but being a famous person. Yeah, Traders, I think you're acting.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
That maybe the same.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
I'm drawn to it because it's like a caricature of
yourself as opposed to this. But I felt that feeling
of like, and we did it without social media and
where it's nowadays, kids are like, wait, there's a big
party and my two best friends were there and I
didn't get a call. That shit happens all the time,
and so I got that kind of act the man.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
I appreciate that. I appreciate that honesty. I think that
that is getting to the heart of something.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Why you can't enjoy this.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Maybe maybe maybe it feels stickier in a way for you. Yeah,
I agree, man, I it's funny because I'm attracted to
that ickiness in a way that.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
With the gameplay of Traders, I'm just like, who cares?
Speaker 3 (28:06):
Like, you know, there's a there's a wink and a
smile with Traders, whereas this seems devious, totally and totally
man and so there's a there's a meanness to the
show that then people are then like, oh, come on,
we're just playing a game, and it's kind of like yeah,
but you slap me in the face so you can.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
You're sorry, but it still stings.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
And that's why people carry you know, That's why I
like in this episode, Charlie is still carrying around that
weight from his previous season, which totally works against him.
You know, Like he turns on on Rizzo and you
can see that those lingering feelings, man, like it's real.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
It is, Yeah, maybe that's what it is. It's there's
an ickiness to this show that you don't get with Traders.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
All right.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
It's over at Cela Jonathan and Charlie and Camilla and Dee,
who are the original like Calo four, and you've cut
Rick kissing up to Jonathan. He's trying to be friendly
with the Calo four and then de goes to Rizzo
and says, would you want to work with the girls?
(29:04):
And Rizzo's like yeah, and that of course plays out
throughout the rest of the episode. Over at Callo, Coach God,
I mean, I just love hate so much and when
you give yourself yes, dude, this is why I can't
take him seriously. It's like the ultimate douche twat and
(29:26):
what our pod means world language. I mean, And here's
the thing, I bet if I met this guy, we'd
probably get along. You know, he seems smart, he's obviously
like he's probably like a great person of your love.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
But on Survivor, it just.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Seems like he can't resist slipping into this like cheeseball
leadership role. I mean, obviously you call himself coach like
you are already like he's already given himself the nickname
of coach. Now he's got to like triple down. He
has the old nickname of dragons layer. Now he's going
to be the tide walker. And I just want to
shoot this guy and then myself for having.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Listened to this guy.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
And the old proverb, it's the old proverb of the
the the wannabe leader who sees his entire population of
people running in one direction, he says, oh, there go
my people. I have to find out where they're going
so I can lead them.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Yes, that's exactly that's what it's like. I like that
proverb that like, let me just jump in front of
them and raise my hand and find out where they're
going so I can lead them.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Yes, But then also, it's just like you know, cult
number one, like cult rule number one, rename people. It
really is like if you look at any cult throughout history,
when they get to the point where they're like, I'm
going to call you this, you are a man guard
this yeah, and then you just he literally knights them.
He goes to Joe and he's like, and I can
just see this is what he does. Man, he just
(30:45):
creates a cult around himself and I can't And you know,
these guys are so nice. I can see it on
Colby's face. He's just like, sure, whatever, Japanese folklore.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
Wasn't expecting that.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
And then he's like, I'm flattered, and it's like I
would totally be the same guy.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
I'd be like, sure, coach, I'll be your oak bound warrior.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
But then if you call me that again in front
of people, I'm gonna say, like, dude, like, let's chill.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Yeah, not other people give you nicknames, dude. Such a
cult like it's I was just like, oh, I'm a sidewalker,
Like okay, exactly right.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
So then Aubrey and Tif forgetting along, and Aubrey knows
that Genevieve wants her out. This is going to be
the rivalry to you know, I'm sure he's going to
play out throughout the rest.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Of the season.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
So Aubrey goes to Coach and makes good with Coach
because he's the cult leader.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Everybody's gonna have to make good with Coach.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
People don't seem to like Aubrey for some she just
always seems like she's on the outs.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Well, you know, she's usually she's typically been the underdog,
and here she is the underdog again. But usually it
was because she was sort of nerdy and like not that,
and in this case, I guess that's playing into it,
but it seems more like Genevieve just doesn't trust her,
like she might just think she's a good player. Therefore,
I don't want to play with this person. You know,
she's gonna backstam me, which is a little unfair. But yeah,
(32:02):
I feel like I would be the Aubrey on this tribe.
I'd be looking around being like all these you know,
dude bros playing with honor and integrity and giving ourselves
oak bound nicknames, and like like coaches isn't nicknaming the girls? No,
He's not going on being like I bless you, No,
they haven't earned one yet. The tide Walker has not
bestowed upon him.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
All.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Right over at Cela, Charlie is still spinning his wheels
out over.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Get rid of one said no man, and I get
I get why where he's like, you didn't vote for
the number your number one person to win, Like you
didn't win, I know, and you have to vote for
one person winning, you don't vote for your number one.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
But here's the irony is that Sophie was the number
one that Charlie's talking about. And Sophie was on this show,
and she loves Rizzo for Rizzo, so it's Charlie's baggage
more than this is actually that Rizzo did something wrong, do.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (32:57):
Like he wasn't bothered at all that her her friends
don't if she didn't know.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
She's still best friends with him.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
She's like the way that she talked about it on
our show is like totally cool, like just loves him
and is hoping he wins. So I think it's just yeah,
it's just Charlie spinning out. And what I love is
the way that this plays out. So he goes to Rizzo,
asks him, you know, wakes him up. In the boat
and says, like, who did you tell about the Billy
Eilish thing, the Billie idol. Charlie says, then, well, you know,
(33:26):
because he tells him Rizzo's honest with him. He's like, oh,
I told d And then Charlie says, well, I told Jonathan,
which isn't true, right, just to have like one up
on Rizzo, which Rizzo then sees through doesn't believe. So
that turns everybody on Charlie this one moment. So it's
actually like Charlie's paranoia about Rizzo completely backfires and makes
(33:48):
it a reality. You see what I'm saying, Like Charlie
had just been like you know what, I'm gonna be
the better person. I'm going to assume the best of Rizzo,
he wouldn't have been voted out this episode.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
And like you see it in this moment, don't do
anything completely out of character.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
Who goes and wakes up, don't knock on my boat
at five point fifteen in the morning, totally like like, dude,
that's even it's really aggressive, it was too weird.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Yeah, don't do anything weird.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
No, yes, yes, And it just goes to show that
like when you're paranoid. If you activate it, you can
make it a reality, do you know what I mean? Like,
that's if everybody's against me, then oh my god, guess what.
Eventually everybody's going to be against you?
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Did you keep acting? All right?
Speaker 1 (34:30):
So then Rizzo goes and tells D that he is
the idol. He goes and gets.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Siri on board, So now he has this alliance with Camilla, D.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Siri, and him, which is great gameplay, you know, as
much as like Rizzo's honestly kind of annoying to me,
I like Charlie better as a person, I think based
on what we see edited wise, at this point, I
was like, Rizz is playing a good game.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
I was when it comes to Rizzo, I find him
incredibly annoying. But then I realized he's also really young,
absolutely talk about self adizing.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
Onl find himself and probably hungry as hell.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
But yeah, it's it's that kind of stuff where it's like,
I'm gonna be the best player ever in the history
of and he's.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Just so high on his own supply from season forty nine,
he's just like.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
Jeff said this to me, and Jeff said this, and
not even to be Jef yeah, yeah, it is all right.
So we get to the challenge.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
Everyone's shocked that Mike White was voted out, which got
I gotta remember it's one day later, like you think
about like how this game is going, you know, like
they're they're showing up with this immunity challenge and they're like, oh,
Mike's gone. What well?
Speaker 2 (35:32):
No, I'm just thinking.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
A joke came into my head that perfectly sums up
Rizzo to me. Do you remember the joke of the
It's the Old Bowl with the young Bull.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
No. Oh, so there's an old there's a.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Father bowl, and a and a and a son bowl
on the top of a cliff and they look down
and they see, you know, cows everywhere, and the young
bull looks up and says, Dad, I'm gonna run down
there and one of those cows.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
And the dad looks at him and says, son, let's
walk down there and them all. And that's what it
seems like to me with Rizzo, like he's like, I'm
so excited, I'm gonna win, I'm gonna do all this,
and you haven't. Oh god, it's been around forever. She's
so old. But it's true. It's like patient proverb proverbs
(36:22):
are you are the proverb walker.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
I have to give myself a nickname rider. I'll find
out what it is, all right.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
So this challenge is they got to swim to coconut bags.
Untie them, grab some keys to the platform. So crazy,
al right, challenge starts. Jonathan and Nazzi take the lead.
Joe struggling a little bit. He's gassed, as Charlie says,
which I was surprised by. I was like, dude, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
You know, muscle like lean a lot of times, especially
when you're not getting calories and sustenance.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
Big muscles is not great. The big problem.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Yeah, you see people struggle with this ship all the time,
like the big guys because they've been eating a lot
and building muscle.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
That's again, starve yourself, ye.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Starving somebody like Rizzo's body type could could be way
better there than somebody liked the Giant's body exactly exactly.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
So Kalo does start to fall behind, but then Tiff
does this rope wit move killing ass Is that killing
the coolest thing? And like, I think that literally wins
them the challenge. Yeah, because she does that, which catches
them up almost immediately.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Well, did you notice the other thing she did.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
She wasn't going one bag at a time, she wasn't
opening a bag and dumping it. She undid all the
bags and she just did one motion, grabbed the next
one the next question that instead of stopping to dump
the bags so then she could dump them all.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
It was brilliant, so cool.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
I wonder if she like practiced that or just discovered
it in the moment, but it was awesome to see
and I love it.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Even Jeff is like, yeah, yeahs man, she called you're right.
I think she want it for them.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
I think so because she did that and then coach
gets it with a grappling nook on his first toss,
so that like it was just like, oh okay, and
I put them in the lead.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Sure enough they also, I hear your voice in my
head every time I see these and this is brilliant.
Two things this show that are genius, Jeff Probes is
amazing ye And the fact that you do need everybody
to do these challenges and everybody can do these challenges
and the sections that they have. It's not go lift
big Boulder all the time totally, and that is really brilliant.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
The way it's yeah, and it's taken them a while.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
We are going to have my old friend Miles and
I who was I talked about him as somebody who
developed games for Survivor or challenges. I don't know if
he still does it, but I know he did it
and he reached out. So we're going to have him
on our show. I cannot wait to get some of
the behind the scenes of how this stuff has developed,
because it's definitely progressed over time. All right, So now
(38:53):
we're having a double elimination too, you know, and this
is what happens. They have to start eventually evening and
announce so it's not just on team constantly losing. So yeah,
you know, before the merge, you start doing these double eliminations.
So now over at Cela, Charlie you know, recaps his game.
He needs Camilla on his side in order to make
his liance a four. He lies to her, says Kyle
(39:17):
told me to play with Camilla, which she doesn't believe.
And I was like, I was watching with Indy. I
was like, see, don't lie, dude, because this is the
second time now where lies have backfired in this episode.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
I'm like, it's also an unnecessary lie. I why lie there?
Speaker 3 (39:31):
Just be like, I want to play with you. I
think this would be great. We're strong together, we could
work together. Why make an unnecessary lie? You never lie
when you don't have to.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
And sure enough, when Charlie goes back to Camilla and
finally tells her about the idol, which is the good
thing that they have, like, she says, well, your game
is slow, Rizzo already told yeah, so yeah, it's bad
all right. Over Atvatu, Christian is aiming for Angelina and
Ozzy doesn't feel that he can trust and he asks
(40:01):
Christian to give him his shot in the dark, which
is you probably don't understand that. I knew.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
I knew it was something like a bonus, but I
don't know what a shot.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
No, It's sort of like if you are pretty positive
that you're going to get voted out, that you're going
to get blindsided rather than voting.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
In other words, you give up your vote. I think
that's how words.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
You give up your vote and then you get a
shot in the dark, which means basically you have a
I think it's one in six chance of stay of
being gaining immunity.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
I think it's yeah, so it's a one in six chance.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
It's like basically rolling a six sided dice that you
will just survive no matter what before you know, before
the vote, and then nobody can vote for you.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
So it's like basically if you go to it's a way.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
So like if you're sitting on a tribe and there's
you know, it's a it's because the problem if you didn't,
if you before they had shot in the darks, what
could conceive what we happened It did happen a few
times is that the whole trib would get together and
they'd be like, well, we all hate person X, you know,
and there's five of us and one of them, so
they just say, person X, we're sorry, we're all voting
for you. And they could just say that and it'd
(41:01):
be no gameplay for the rest of the episode because
then Person X would just be like, well, I'm screwed,
and they do anything about the majority just votes for them,
and you could just get everybody to agree we all
hate person X, get them out. And so the shot
in the Dark subverts that possibility because person X can
play their shot in the Dark and still have a
one six chance of just that, and then that's cool.
So it's a very important gameplay that they had to introduce.
I think it's only been like ten seasons or maybe
(41:23):
a little bit more. But until before that, yeah, it
was just like majority rule. It would just be like, hey,
let's all get together and decide. So it's a very
important gameplay. But yeah, so I found this interesting, you know,
And I love the way that you know, Ozzy is
he's kind of like cheesy in this way.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
It's like, you know, he.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
Just wants you to prove that you I can trust you, right,
And you know, I love that Christian calls it this
like ritual of subservience to Ozzie of the Island, and
I was like, it's true though, And I have to
say it plays like Christian does give his shot in
the dark to Ozzie.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
But only after somebody comes up to him and says,
Ozzie's gunning for you. And then he was like, all right,
the the only move I have left is that I
have to give them the shot in the dark.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
Yeah, that's all I got. And it works out, it
really it is.
Speaker 4 (42:05):
And I actually think that between last episode and this episode,
I hope that Ozzie can see how much Christian went
through in these two episodes, and that the two of
them actually have formed a pretty awesome alliance if they
if they if they're willing to forgive each other like
they did exactly, they ritualistically played out what they needed
(42:26):
to have like an incredible alliance together.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
I don't know if Ozzy's going to see it that way.
I think Christian does.
Speaker 3 (42:32):
Like but again, it's the second you get somebody does
something super sketchy like they started this episode with, there's
always going to be that seed of doubt, like now
I have to I have to think about everything you
say to me because you left me out of something
really major.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
But see, that's what I think giving it.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
When Christian gives him the shot in the dark, that's
a way to say, like, I'm I'm giving you something
major now.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
I hope that because I like both of them.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
They're very different players, but I actually like the two
of them, so i'd like to see that work out.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
You know.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
I also like Emily, who is you know, once they
merge that they're going to have each other.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
I think still is my favorite. I think Ozzie's my favorite.
I like him a lot.
Speaker 3 (43:11):
I think he's I mean again, I'm trying to find
favorites and trying to find people to root for. I
like him, but again and again, not to keep harping
on this, I just wish I knew the backstory is
better of all the people, because then I'm sure I
think you told me that Ozzie's like come close, but
they keep voting him out after just keeping everyone fed. Like, like,
knowing all that stuff would make me root for people more.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
So I get it.
Speaker 3 (43:32):
But you know, maybe in the future, Survivor, if you're listening,
maybe do a bonus episode, Maybe put it up online.
Maybe do something where it's a recap of all the
characters you're bringing back and all this stuff holding on,
so as somebody who doesn't know the show can go
in knowing the backstories of everybody, knowing what's going on.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
For you, eisode of absolutely and do that episode if
you want to put it up on CBS.
Speaker 3 (43:56):
Great, if you just want to put it online, But
it would be super helpful to have that kind of
road map.
Speaker 2 (44:03):
I agree, man, I wonder if they actually do and
we just don't know that that's super possible. CBS website
that's dedicated to map catch me up on Survivor dot Com.
You idiot. Oh sorry, they made it just for wil Ford.
Now it's will for those primers. CBS produced this What
are you talking? They did this show? What are you doing?
Speaker 3 (44:23):
Yeah, exactly, but no, I do Now question is is
this in perpetuity? Now he has this thing and he
has to give it away.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
It's not like I think he just gave it to
him for this vote and then he'll give it back.
Speaker 2 (44:35):
So it's just every Yeah, I'm assuming unless he's gonna
steal his.
Speaker 3 (44:39):
He could turn around and be like, no, I'm just
keeping it.
Speaker 2 (44:43):
You can't touch it.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
Go ahead, grab grab it, go get it, go get it,
Come on, come up, all right. So then Rizzo tells
SII that he has an idol, and she returns the
favor by telling him that she has the extra vote
from Ozzie, which I totally forgot about. By the way,
this is when the very first one read first thing
is like, don't give me the pot. So he but
I didn't realize. I forgot that he gave that vote
(45:05):
to Siri as a show of like.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
Hey, yes, okay, I don't.
Speaker 1 (45:09):
I totally didn't even remember that. So she says she
has extra which is great. So that's what I really
do think that, like, right now we're heading towards this
place where if Christian and Ozzy can oversee their differences.
You've got Christian, Ozzy, Emily and Surrie who might be
working together, which is like an incredible team before Emily,
(45:30):
Emily is the sort of nerdy girl with Ozzy and Christian.
She's the one who can't keep her mouth shut, who
keeps blurting out like.
Speaker 3 (45:36):
Oh got she's a very good player.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
Actually yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:40):
And and and if those guys that they can keep
their alliance that team before, because once they merge, they
got to deal with all the other people. And I
feel like because Sirie is such a good player and
she's been kind of flying under the radar, but.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
Well that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (45:51):
I feel like, the way to win this is you
kind of you you connect yourself with with a strong team,
but then you kind of become a leaf on the wind.
And because she's not notice she's not throwing out who
they should vote for, She's like, who are voting for
this week? And either Ozzie or it's usually Christian come
up with here's.
Speaker 2 (46:07):
What she's like.
Speaker 3 (46:08):
Okay, And so I think you do that for as
long as you can, until then you've got to start
playing exactly.
Speaker 1 (46:14):
And then look at the the and Ozzie says it,
the three of them have been to every single tribal.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
Yes, those three crazy.
Speaker 1 (46:20):
So think about that trauma bonding though going into the
rest of the show, they're like they're survivors.
Speaker 2 (46:25):
They have survived together.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
I think that's going to be really instrumental moving forward,
which is going to be fun to see, you know.
I mean, because think about they're gonna be on the
same tribe as Coach probably next episode actually, I know
because of the review said that their merging next one,
So like they're going to be dealing with people, you know,
and see this.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
I'll get there, God, I'll get it. So all right.
Speaker 1 (46:46):
So Rizzo is then bragging about his game on forty nine,
which starts turning people off and I turning me off.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
I was like, dude, just keep your mouth shut.
Speaker 1 (46:54):
Be cool. And it turns out that Camilla is sort
of the swing vote between her four alliance and this
alliance that she has with Syria and.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
D and Rizzo. Which way is she gonna go? I
was pretty surprised.
Speaker 1 (47:06):
I was like, she's gonna stick with her original and
it didn't work out that way.
Speaker 2 (47:11):
We get to tribal Jeff Probes. You know, he's.
Speaker 1 (47:15):
Really just like coming to his own as a like
he's he's like, he's rapping now, he's doing impersonations. Stick
with the impersonations. N give you the music, buddy.
Speaker 2 (47:29):
But god, he's good at this. I mean, man, he's
good at this.
Speaker 3 (47:32):
He also so I have to imagine from the way
he runs the tribal councils, he's getting constant intel of
the inside stuff that's going on on the island because
he's asking the right questions to the right.
Speaker 1 (47:47):
That's why I thought he had an earpiece, dude. I
was sure that there were producers in his ear helping him,
like every news anchor has or whatever to do there.
Speaker 2 (47:54):
But no, he's literally flying out there.
Speaker 1 (47:57):
And you know, these tribal councils are much longer than
they actually show you there he was running this room,
this fireplace. But he's running this this fire circle without
without any help. So even if they are telling him, yeah,
I'm sure they're giving him the download of like what
happened that day, it might.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
Even be watching.
Speaker 3 (48:13):
He might be watching the feeds of what's going on
on the watching the footage because it's like, oh, they're
in the line, just keeping track of everybody's be insane,
Like I still don't know, I know, I still don't know.
Speaker 2 (48:23):
I know. So yeah, No, he's very good at this job.
Speaker 1 (48:25):
And getting to sit in a probably really nice hotel
room every night.
Speaker 2 (48:28):
Well, these people somewhere in Fiji, Yeah, just being fed grapes.
Speaker 1 (48:31):
I remember somebody saying that they saw they saw an
interview with him or talk and he was just like
describing the smell, like just the way that people smell
after thirty days.
Speaker 2 (48:41):
I was like, oh right, these are people like you know, yeah.
Speaker 3 (48:44):
That's when you're bathing yourself in like the fishy ocean
right near you, where there's clams and mollusc Yeah, you're
probably not smelling like roses at this point.
Speaker 2 (48:51):
All right.
Speaker 1 (48:52):
So first tribal kind of goes like that, you know,
there's this slight implication that maybe they're going to turn
on Ozzy. It turns out it's kind of faded there.
They're just sticking with their original. Angelina's out, which is fine.
I mean, she has not played a huge part of
the show, so I don't really have feelings one way
or another. I was watching with Indy he can't tell
(49:13):
the difference between Angelina and Stephanie, which I kind of
agree with.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
I was like, Yeah, they haven't developed these people. They
haven't stood out enough.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
You know.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
I know a lot about Zach Brown. Yep, I know
a lot about him, cook his fish. I know a
lot about I don't.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
Know the players on the show, but I could tell
you three of Zach brown songs and how he likes
to spend his weekends.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
So, yeah, I know what you're saying. Man, they really screwed.
Speaker 3 (49:36):
They've really That was There was a big backlash against
that too. There was a lot of stuff online about.
Speaker 2 (49:40):
Like, I know, I made that joke.
Speaker 1 (49:43):
I was like, Jesus, do we need a whole commercial?
But it turns out everybody felt the same way. It's
a little uh yeah. I think that they've gotten a
little ahead of themselves or or something. They've lost a
little sight of like who there who they're playing to?
You know, it's like people. Yeah, I I think there's
like survivor nerddom, and I feel like they're getting a
little too into their nerd.
Speaker 3 (50:04):
Exactly what this is I get about for the fans.
I get this is a show for the fans by
the fans this season. I understand that. But you'd think
the fans would want to bring in more fans.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
And the way that you do that is you you
open it up.
Speaker 3 (50:17):
And then I think, so, you've got the Billie Eilish,
she's a fan. They're bringing fans onto the island. It's
like I've been watching it, so I get the whole season.
Speaker 1 (50:24):
By the way, why hasn't Billy Eilish popped in, like
even with just like a video, Is she going to
show up at the end, Like I'm maybe so, Like
she obviously is a fan, lends her name to this
ible thing, but I thought maybe there'd be like a
message from her, like a video message like here I
am good luck and there's nothing. I'm like, does she
just refuse to do it? Was she just like no,
I love it, but I'm not gonna.
Speaker 2 (50:44):
I'm not gonna be out of the camera.
Speaker 3 (50:46):
Maybe maybe maybe like in the last thing, she'll be there.
Speaker 1 (50:50):
Or she'll perform at the final Maybe it's super interesting though,
like because I don't know Billy Eilish all that way,
Like I'm not I just know some of her songs,
but I know that like her whole jam is like
much more about like being authentic and like not showy.
Like she's like her whole thing is like she's just
wide open with her fans. It's like she she rips
(51:11):
her heart out on stage and she's like like hugs everybody.
So I wonder if she's just like not cool with
being on a reality show. Yeaes say, Zach Brown is like,
make me look cool with my twelve foot long kid,
I got it. Have you seen the size of my
man things? All right? Second, Tribal just comes down to
(51:45):
this battle between Rizzo and Charlie and yeah, like you
know they everything they say at Tribal was fine but
gave no hint of which way it was gonna go.
Speaker 3 (51:55):
I'm sorry, let me set the mood.
Speaker 2 (52:00):
And I'm like, oh my god, I know.
Speaker 1 (52:02):
And they time it perfectly so that they when somebody
says something slightly dramatically, I.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
Know, man, it's so cheesy. It's true. It's so turned
the music down. Please, it is just.
Speaker 3 (52:18):
And with the Tiki Tour, it just it looks like
there honestly looks like you're waiting in line for the
Indiana Jones, Right, I.
Speaker 5 (52:25):
Know, I know it's yeah, you could say I think
it was more problematic when the show started because they
would lean into the tribalism even worse.
Speaker 1 (52:37):
Uh. Now I think it's a little more just like
it's its own survivor style. Right, It's like, you know,
it's not necessarily like one culture versus another.
Speaker 2 (52:46):
It's like it's just kind of a blend. Right, it's
the Pokies from from ploys it.
Speaker 1 (52:53):
Totally, which is maybe more offensive because it's like somewhat Aboriginal,
somewhat Native Americans, somewhat Island. It's f it's just blah
anything that's not white. Hey, but it's nice. It's savage,
it's not civilized.
Speaker 2 (53:09):
Yeah, that's a little but it is.
Speaker 3 (53:11):
I'm just waiting for the guy to come on and
be like, it's a forty five minute wait for the
Indiana Joe's ride.
Speaker 2 (53:15):
So you sit back like, okay, I get it.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
Make sure you're wearing your seatbelts for the trial, and
do it in Spanish, right, or you know what they
do at Disneyland.
Speaker 2 (53:29):
They always when the ride breaks down, they say it
in theme.
Speaker 1 (53:31):
They're always like, you know, those have hijacked with the
Haunted Mansion rides. What would survivaling and be like, yeah,
a tribe of natives has taken over the tribal council.
Speaker 2 (53:41):
We don't have to wait forty five minutes until so true.
That's one of the best days I've ever had at
Disneyland or Disney World. I was, I was with you.
Don't happened. I was doing the.
Speaker 3 (53:51):
Big Country Mountain whatever broke down and we were in
the booth when it broke down, and they let me
do the.
Speaker 2 (53:56):
Sorry folks, looks like I was not with you. I
swear to god you were. I was like, can I
do the announcement.
Speaker 3 (54:03):
Both because we had we were back dooring everything at
that point, and they're like, yeah, come on and see
how we're Everyone know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (54:12):
So I don't know you were at Big I was there.
Speaker 3 (54:16):
I swear to God you are with me. And the
ride broke down and the microphones right there. It's like,
can I do the stuff? And he's like sure, And
it was seriously me going like.
Speaker 2 (54:22):
Well, oh, folks, looks like we got a little problem
searching for gold. Like that guy was like making stuff up.
It was so I love it. Oh, that's so cool.
So yeah, it would be that for Survivor.
Speaker 1 (54:33):
Too bad we didn't have cameras back, they would have
had footage of that, right.
Speaker 2 (54:37):
Like exactly, it's great, all right, Well, uh, tribal ends
with Charlie getting voted out. I was surprised. I thought
I thought they were doomed. Yeah, me too, bombed, me too.
Speaker 3 (54:49):
You're feeding into this dude's ego about how he's the
greatest of all time.
Speaker 2 (54:53):
Yeah, he's not better than the Tidewalker.
Speaker 1 (54:56):
And I guess this is Charlie's first time because he
the last season that he played, he made it to
the final three, so the only time he's ever been
voted out.
Speaker 2 (55:05):
So that's what he says, and he's like, guess, and
now I.
Speaker 1 (55:07):
Know what it's like to have my uh my smoke
trapped in as Indy would say, exactly, smoking chapter smoking.
Speaker 2 (55:15):
So the last it makes it to a final three, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (55:20):
There's sometimes some seasons has been four, some seasons it
has been two.
Speaker 2 (55:24):
But yeah, I think it's been a final three now.
Speaker 3 (55:27):
So then you're obviously not voted out. It's just somebody
of that group wins.
Speaker 2 (55:30):
Yeah, gotcha.
Speaker 1 (55:31):
Yeah, But it gets really interesting when you get to
the final three because one person wins immunity in order
to guarantee.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
That they're in the final three. And then god, so wait,
maybe it doesn't.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
You know, I'm not gonna pretend I know what's going on,
because everything I say will just make our listeners scream
at the radio.
Speaker 2 (55:48):
So I don't know.
Speaker 1 (55:49):
Will it's gonna be exciting, You're gonna you're gonna be excited.
What it comes down to often is that they make
people go to fire, so it becomes a fire building
contest for the final position. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (56:00):
Yeah, because if you.
Speaker 1 (56:01):
Can build a fire, and they have like a rope
above like like like a full foot and a half
above the fire, and you have to build a fire
that's sustained long enough to burn through the rope, and
then whoever builds the fire long enough to burn through
the rope gets to go into the final three. Yeah,
that's super interesting, you'll see. But that's why I like,
why you would ever go into Survivor without knowing how
to make fire backwards and forwards in any condition.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
I don't know. It's like a you got to make fire,
you got to make shelters, Like that's the most important
all right.
Speaker 1 (56:29):
Well, I feel like we started off with you being
very uh, you know, against the show, just with your criticism,
but through the course of our recap, I feel like
you got a little back into it. We can.
Speaker 3 (56:43):
I just I want and I know that our listener
is going to, uh say to me, you got because
I'm seeing the comments a lot of people are like,
go back and watch you earlier seasons.
Speaker 2 (56:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (56:56):
So I just think at this point with the season,
and I get it, it's about the fans and buy
the and so it's it's just the gameplay. But I
think they're missing the balance that would bring in a
new audience. And I think they're seeing that with the
numbers where it's like that's that's all it is is
there's no it's just Caddy people now. And I'd like
to know again I can give you a pass on
some of the things you're saying, knowing that you've had
(57:17):
three grains of rice in the last week and a half.
I want to see that SEUs spent the entire thing
just going like what happened to the chickens? Are the
chicken they do? Do they eat all the chickens? Are
they there for the eggs?
Speaker 2 (57:26):
What happened to the chickens.
Speaker 5 (57:27):
Here?
Speaker 2 (57:28):
What are you stuff?
Speaker 1 (57:29):
Here are two things that I hope happened this season
that have that have that have happened in seasons past
and then also not been a part of seasons past,
and I'm hoping that the fans have voted for these
two things to happen. One is they have what's called
Survivor Auction, which is they give them cash, like literally
can hand them all cash, equal amounts of cash, and
then bring up objects which are mostly going to be
(57:51):
food but sometimes disgusting things, but you just get it
like a cake, you know, a cake band. So you
just see like this thing, you don't know what's in it,
and they vote they spend their money to like and
sometimes it's like you get an octopus eye and they
have to eat that if they want it or they can't,
or it'll be like a chocolate cake or a fries
and beer, and you get to see these people lose
their shit over and you really yeah, So that's something
(58:13):
that's super fun and it hasn't been in every season.
Speaker 2 (58:15):
I hope the fans order for that.
Speaker 1 (58:16):
The other one is they bring their family members to
nice and and they have these moments where they you know,
they get to reunite with somebody either their husband, their wife,
their child, their mom, somebody from them, and you see
these people lose their minds because they really are struggling,
and you see them like they're just they just fall
(58:37):
apart and hugging their person, and then you get to
see them have a moment or two if they win
the chance. Often what the reward challenges is, like the
result is you either get to spend a couple hours
with your family or you don't.
Speaker 2 (58:49):
So people don't get.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
To spend time with their family and they're like and
they just lose their shit, or they get to spend
time alone with them and you see them communicating with
their person from back home, and you get to see
the real because there's there's no strategy and they're just like, mom,
I'm scared to be out here by myself.
Speaker 2 (59:04):
These people hate me and.
Speaker 1 (59:05):
You get to see like, So I think that would
help you understand how severe it is for them. And
so those are like two of my favorite things that
haven't been a part of every season. So I really
hope they do that this season because it is a month. Yeah,
it's like thirty.
Speaker 2 (59:18):
Days okay, yeah, okay, yeah, well so we're only a
quarter the way through.
Speaker 3 (59:23):
Yeah, I got one segment. Uh, this is, of course
Will's history of the People.
Speaker 2 (59:28):
That's stuff. I got one today. And you're gonna say,
Will Friedle, you're a liar, but I'm not. This is
Vesna Volovic, Vesna Volovic.
Speaker 1 (59:47):
It's weird that even though you know this off the
top of your head, you have a hard time pronouncing.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
And I have a weird thing. It's called pronunciation brain
matter problems. More p b MP. Where did you just
close your eyes and say the name again? Like if
you reach it, I can. There's the Velovac.
Speaker 1 (01:00:05):

this is different, lady.
Speaker 3 (01:00:25):
This is the highest Guinness highest fall ever without a parachute,
because the other lady you remember fell from ten thousand
feet and survived.
Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
Yes, is even higher. Thirty three thousand, three hundred and
thirty feet or cruising out to two point three one
miles she fell into?
Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
What?
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):

The Yugoslav authority suspected the Croatian nationalists word of blame,
but no one was ever arrested. Following the bombing, she
spent several days in a coma and was hospitalized for
several months.
Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
She suffered a fractured skull. Okay, but how did she

to say what she fell into. Nope, let me wait,
Let me rack through my brain, let me rack through
my croatia. How do you like?

She must have hit a tree line or like what
breaks your fall from thirty thousand.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
Feet She was discovered by a villager who heard her
screaming amid the wreckage. Her Turkose uniform was covered in
blood and her stiletto heels had been torn off by
the force of the impact. Oh so she stayed with
the plane, She apparently stated, with the plane, Oh, Aeronica, he.
Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
Went on rocking my brain.
Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
Recommend there's the fact I need air safety investigators a tree.
Speaker 1 (01:02:00):

Speaker 3 (01:02:00):
Her survival to being trapped by a food cart in
the DC nine's fuselage as it broke away from the
rest of the aircraft and plummeted towards the ground. When
the cabin depressurized, the passengers and other crew were bore.
Other crew were blown out of the aircraft and fel
to their deaths, but the fuselage pinned inside. This woman
was pinned inside landed at an angle in a heavily
wooded and snow covered mountain side, which cushioned the impact.
(01:02:23):

six point three one miles. She suffered a fractured skull,
three broken vertebrate, broken legs, broken ribs, and a fractured pelvis.
She was temporarily paralyzed from the waist down, but made

(01:02:46):
to be flying again, what back to being a flight
attendant on the same airline, and then the airline fired
her in nineteen ninety because she went to an anti

Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:03:02):

Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
That's horror.
Speaker 3 (01:03:25):
She went back and was a flight attendant and then
they fired her.
Speaker 2 (01:03:30):
