Speaker 1 (00:00):
What you're telling us is that Taylor, Sorry, Ezra, he
was a pad of one the whole time up until
the very end of our show. So when Taylor is
making claims about being like the most powerful Jedi in
the galaxy, you never said this.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Hey, what's up, everybody?

Speaker 3 (00:30):
It's Vanessa Marshall, the voice of Harrison Doula, Specter number two,
and today I'm so grateful to.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Be here with hi everyone. It's TSR car voice of
Sybby and Ren the Spector Vibe, And along with Vanessa
and I.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
We have what's up guys, Taylor Gray, Ezra Ridger Specter six.
And with us there is.

Speaker 5 (00:52):
Hey everybody, it's your friendly neighborhood moderator John Ley Brody,
and today we're going over Star Wars Rebels season two,
episode fifteen.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
The call that call sounds like a horror movie.

Speaker 5 (01:03):
Yeah, hell yeah, when the stranger calls. That's a classic.
How is everybody?

Speaker 6 (01:09):
Family?

Speaker 5 (01:09):
Checking time into those who've been commenting on our Spotify
because we did a call to action a few episodes back,
people have been checking in and letting us know how
they're doing, and we appreciate that. We love hearing from
you and and uh, Vanessa, you have brought up that
someone asks you when we're going to do another fan
Q and A. I think maybe maybe in the next
couple of weeks, maybe before like the Christmas holiday. We
can do a little holiday. Yeah, we'll make you something.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
But how are you all doing?

Speaker 1 (01:33):
We love those fan q and as? Yeah, lovely and
last time we got so many good cues.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Yeah, it chek me quite some time to write them out.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
A lot of Gmail accounts, man, that a lot of dedication.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
How all those dummy accounts pick different passwords? Good lord?

Speaker 5 (01:53):
Next time I have like a kickstarter and they need
to match like a certain donor goal, I'm going to
hit up tailor because I know he's got like a
hundred of the Gmail accounts. Yeah, and I'll hit up
another dough like, hey, if I got one hundred donors,
will you match this?

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Smart?

Speaker 7 (02:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:05):
You know, I know.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
I just get with my plan.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yeah, I don't know if you should have done that?

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (02:10):
Well all right, well well all right anyway, so, uh,
anything else or should we just get into this episode?

Speaker 4 (02:17):
This is a fun one.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
I love this episode. I can't wait to talk about
it with you guys.

Speaker 5 (02:22):
All right, So here we go.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
It's disingenuous, but I really mean it.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Yeah, yeah, it's awesome. Guys. I can't wait.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
I know it came out of my mouth. I was like,
well that sounded fake, but.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
You do it again? A little sla.

Speaker 6 (02:36):
Should we do it?

Speaker 4 (02:36):
Do you want to do it? Do you want another?

Speaker 8 (02:38):
Do?

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Here we go?

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Guys.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
I really enjoyed this episode. I really can't.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
Wait to talk beautiful because people driving in their car
the way to work are like, Wow, she hasn't lied
to us yet, now she is okay.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
I can't wait, especially for your recap. John.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
Let's let's do that perfect, perfect and both takes ten
out of ten. No notes, you're good, You're good.

Speaker 6 (03:05):
So here we go.

Speaker 5 (03:05):
Here comes the recap for season two, episode fifteen, The Call,
original air at eight February tenth, twenty sixteen. Here we go,
find my notes.

Speaker 6 (03:15):
The ghost and.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
The crew that occupies it are like the Jackson Brown
song in nineteen seventy seven. Running on empty all energies
must be carefully rationed throughout the ship, and to make
matters worse, there's little to no central heat. The group
can only hope that their intel on the possible fuel
comes to fruition and fast. Then, like a textbook showshine
zen Lesson, Ezra is able to hear something that the
others can't, and it is here we meet the Purgills.

(03:38):
Harah likes Purgols just about as much as giants fans
like the eagles, and she wants the blastom into the
next galaxy. But as the suggests, they fly in the
same direction as them. Hara reluctantly done so, and for
a moment it's calm until these modified tie fighters attack them.
But they take care of them, and when that does settles,
it turns out the Purgils are indeed the key to
it all, because following the Pergill is like following the

(03:59):
yellow brick roads. Sure enough, the Proago lead the Ghost
crew right to the very refinery that they were looking for.
But they're gonna have to get really creative in order
to get past the mining guild's offences and account for
the ghosts. Low Fuel the solution. Canaan, Ezra, Sabine, and
Chopper jump off the ghosts like a Jedi Mandalorian surfer,
free fall into the refinery like they're the point break
reboot we all deserved. The group fights off these mining

(04:20):
guilt goons in order to secure the landing for the Ghosts.
But these goons proved to be a bit tougher and
have more firepower than anticipated. But thanks to Ezra Vulcan
mind melding with a Peragil deepening his connection with them,
the Paragols come in with the ultimate assists that would
make John.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Stocked him proud.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
The Ghost crew gets the fuel, gets away, and the
Purgales are unharmed. Harris distrust of the Paragales are now
in the rear view like the mining guilt scrubs at
the refinery. The episode ends with the Paragols making their
own jump into hyperspace like their sea turtles on the
East Australian Current, as the Ghost just keeps swimming through space.
And that is the recap for Season two, episode fifteen.

(04:55):
That was a good one, little finding Nemo at the end.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
This is that really connected.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
With all right, good, all right, that good, all right,
good show? Everybody?

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Did you? Okay?

Speaker 1 (05:11):
I really just meant that sincerely. I watched this episode
and I remember it better somewhat than some other episodes
where I'm like, oh, I don't I don't really remember
this one at all. I remember this one, because the
Purgols were a big deal when we when we I
remember when we were recorded.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
We talked it.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
I mean, Dave talked at length with us about this,
like giving us the setup and we got to see
we we often did not get to see what things
look like in advance. But didn't he show us that
what the Purgles looked like? Yeah, kind of like squid
whale things.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
So then you just kind of answered a question I
was gonna ask you, see so Purgols never shown up
before in Star Wars, then, right.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
I don't think so we'd have to see that.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Well, no, because Henry just told us that he created Yeah,
that or I thought of it.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
I don't recall, but I do remember saying like, and
I noticed last the first time, I said, it was
like per gill, and then I said pergole and then
I said like it was almost like maylu run, Mayleeu run,
may Lou run.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Yeah. Well that's one of those examples of when I mean,
I'll just speak for myself. When I would ask Dave like,
how is this word pronounced? And he would be like,
how would you how would you pronounce it? And it's like, no,
how is it pronounced, and He's like, people from different
parts of the country pronounced or certainly the world pronounced
the same word different ways. So it's fine, and I'm like, no,

(06:36):
tell me the right way. But yeah, I think pergol
is one of those, right, per Gill per goal.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
This was another one where the recording of it I
couldn't imagine. I mean, yes, we saw what they look like,
but nothing can prepare you for the visuals that occur.
I mean, for me, I was so moved that Taylor,
your character was so in tune with these creeds like
that gave me hope for even today. There were you know,

(07:06):
if we just stop and listen and sort of go
inside that we are all connected.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
That there was there was something. There was something so.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Powerful that you can't imagine how elegantly that will be
executed when you're looking at it in black and white
on a piece of paper.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Nothing can prepare you for that.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
I mean, sort of even the end, if we go
all the way to the end with their tails lighting
up like that, and there's sort.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Of the the I don't know the what do they
call it?

Speaker 3 (07:33):
I don't know that she says, well, it says that
the Purgls have something to do with hyperspace, but I
don't believe it, you know that we actually see that
it's true.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
There was I don't know. There was just something so
magical about this.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
I love, yeah, magical and almost mystical element that the
Purgle brought, which I loved, and I feel like, I okay,
so this is maybe embarrassing that I didn't clock this
the first time, but I feel like the first time
I watched all of these episodes when they initially air
or were screened for us, I was watching like through,
you know, like like I wasn't watching it as a

(08:08):
normal audience member, taking in you know, the themes and
the over you know, overarching themes and things like that.
I was probably watching with you know, like baited breath
and being like, oh did I did I screw anything up? Okay, well,
you know, so this time around, it's so much more
enjoyable to get to watch and watch it for the story,

(08:29):
watch it for the character development, watch it for you know,
the various plots. But I really love this theme of
of Ezra having this sensitivity or this like kinship with
all of these creatures. You might not be able to

(08:50):
understand Chopper, but you're able to understand burgles and loaf
cuts and loath wolves and eventually and it's it's really
I really love that. And I don't know that I
kind of caught that the first go round for whatever reason,
but it's really special. I love it.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
Yeah, I mean, the creatures of Star Wars are so
cool and to be able to connect with them in
that way, and also like the Bendu, this sort of
naturalistic side of the force is really really cool to me.
And it ties in with some of my favorite fantasy
movies of like even Lord of the Rings and the

(09:30):
Trees and different you know what I mean, and Different
Elements and the Wizard with the animals and the forest,
you know what I mean. I think that that's uh,
it's really really cool. And you don't you haven't seen
that really in Star Wars before, at least not that
I had seen.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Great on Choking to Death by the way, Oh yeah,
I love that.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
Oh yeah, I remember. I think I was asking you guys,
had it like, what is the what is the thing here?
How do we how do you go back? Joking? Yeah, no, yeah,
I was going to ask that day. It was just
choking me in the boot.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
No, it was me. It was me. I volunteered.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
I liked how I mean, this is such a dumb predilection.
I love when there are little things that going back there,
like that they're cold and they don't have fuel. I
was like, there we go. That's a human thing in
your house and the energy bills high, and you're like,
I could just put on some coats like they're they're
getting by and you see that they're just freezing because

(10:29):
they're low on energy. I just enjoyed that element to it.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
And their breath, like the animated love. I loved that.
That was such a nice addition, really like illustrating the
point obviously. I also love that there is a lesson
at the at the beginning of the episode that like,
instead of immediately trying to attack your perceived enemy, that

(10:57):
trying to see it things from their perspective or in
this case, like going in their direction can be prudent
and wise and you know, beneficial to you both perhaps.
But anyway, I was like, oh, that's good.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
I like that.

Speaker 5 (11:15):
Yeah, so did it register with you all? Because you know,
Henry Gilroy essentially created the per Gills per Gill I
want to pronounce it. Did it register at the time,
I'm sure it does now thinking that this is like
a canonical introduction of this like new creature or like,
can you recall anything that was going through your mind
which is like, oh, okay, cool, let's get to the session.
I mean, I'm sure now it does. But I'm just

(11:37):
curious if any memories are coming up to the forefront
for you all, just kind of revisiting this.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
I remember we talked, we talked about it a lot,
so obviously it was important. And I think Dave, you know,
the fact that he showed us the artwork in advance
of recording that you know, that was obviously that the
happen very often, so obviously this was so you know, significant.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
I wonder if you knew where it was going, meaning
like to the end, that these these creatures would be
so important spoiler alert, because this is pretty far out
from the Yeah, I mean, like there's still sixty episodes,
fifty episodes something like that. Yeah, but they are cool
creatures to me, John's your question. I didn't really I
was like, yeah, creature like this seems kind of cool,

(12:27):
but then yeah, they're really.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
Sick, very cool. So I love that we're talking about
because I love the whole thing of Ezra can hear
things that other people can't tap it into a power
that even remember, Henry disclosed to us that Ezra has
this power, but Canaan doesn't. So that's why Canaan can't
hear the purgos. But this reminds me to piggyback on
what we talked about last episode with Zen Buddhism and

(12:51):
samurai training. There's this lesson that's taught to students where
a master's sense of students of the forest and says,
come back and tell me what you hear. The student
comes back and says, why hear the birds? I hear
the whin to hear the insects. Master says, okay, go
back again and listen closer, listen better, Come back and
tell me what you hear. And then once the student
leans in, student comes back goes, no, I heard the
sound of flowers opening, I heard the grass drinking. Do

(13:13):
I heard the silence between heart beats? And then the
master nods it says, now you're hearing the soul of
the world, which is this is Mushashi's Book of Five Rings,
which is essentially what the forces like the lot of
the what the Jedi are doing is like kendo samurai
swort place sort of thing. But also the philosophy of
a warrior must perceive that which cannot be seen with

(13:34):
the eye, which is what essentially as a rays. Yeah,
he can't explain why he knows this, he just knows
he does. But also that whole notion of not seeing
with the eye also foreshadowing spoiler alert to when Canaan
becomes to which eat the Blind Swordsman. So there's a
lot of these sort of samurai code being implemented here,

(13:55):
And just wanted to throw that to the group as well,
because I love hearing all of your inquisitiveness or your
your thoughtfulness or insightfulness when it comes to these things.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Oh, that is that is really intense. I didn't even
think of that.

Speaker 8 (14:07):
I mean, I just I thought that obviously Ezra's forced
sensitive and he seems to have an affinity for creatures,
but I didn't know, Wow, that is that is really cool.
That it's a form of like deep listening through his enlightenment,
his journey in terms of owning his power as a Jedi.
And that's not necessarily something that Canaan possesses that's really special.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Yeah, and it's not taught, It's it's innate, right, like
he I don't think you can teach that.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
Yeah, the I mean I interjected a bit. But the
whole connection a little Prince, that's whole thing that things
that are most important to see you you don't see
with your eyes is very cool. And I think that
pertains to so many things, doesn't it. And it's like,
I think that's really so balanced. Is like he's incredibly

(15:01):
selfless in this episode two in ways that you're like, yeah,
he doesn't really know which way he's going any leans
sorts of dark side certain times, but also his bright
sides are incredibly bright and like they're so lovely. I
think this whole connection to the force in this way
is really cool in the fact that not everyone possesses

(15:22):
it makes it very unique to him.

Speaker 5 (15:26):
He's very open, you know, to possibilities, and he leans
into it, you know, just like he's at least going
to lead in to see what it's about and be
open enough to see what it is at first and
then determine what it is once he gets there, where
Canaan may not do that. I think Canaan's very methodical
and practical, and not that he's wrong, just that's the

(15:48):
way he knows, that's what works for him, and that's
the essential difference between the two of them. And you
see that coming to light here and also manifesting itself
like kind of physically, just the way that Ezer carries
himself this episode.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
I also found it interesting, Yes, agreed with all of
that and that, and that it stands in stark contrast
with with Cainaan how Canaan operates as a Jedi. And
then you've got Ezra who is using. I mean, he's
so empathetic and he's sensitive and he cares about things

(16:21):
like even meanwhile, while Harah's like, you know, SP's purgles.
They screw stuff up for us and they you know,
she even says at first I was like haarh geez
like take it easy, and then she says, I've lost
many friends to these creatures. And I'm like, okay, well
then fair. But it was interesting. You know, we always

(16:42):
or I shouldn't say we, but Haarah always feels infallible.
She's always right, she always knows what's going on. She's
always got the best idea, and here she's wrong and
she you know, it's kind of a departure of how
we always just sort of rely on Haarah to know
what to do and how to do it and how

(17:04):
to execute the plan. And you know what I mean,
Like she she's always got the answers, and in this case,
it's it's just neat to see like a different dynamic
and that she's willing to change her mind based on
the evidence at hand. And I like that. That's a

(17:25):
lesson in and of itself.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
That's a very Star Wars one too.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
Oh sorry, go ahead, John, No, No, I was I
was just gonna just piggyback on everything, TSI, because I
have this in my notes, like the weight of old stories.
So it's like these old stories that Haarah knew, that's
what she's going off of. It's almost this sort of
anchoring bias when it comes to pergos, you know exactly. Yeah,
And I want to you know, and I was very
curious of your thought because you're You're right Toia, it's

(17:49):
a very different side of Harah because I've never really
seen Harrah going like f these guys. You know, it
was very different.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
I think, And I'm not sure what the equivalent is
like I was thinking of, I have friends and I
don't know, I will tiptoe through this comparison, but I
have friends who are animal activists and they say like, oh,
you know, you should save coyotes and blah blah blah, and.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
And you know other people who say, oh, you know,
they threaten my children.

Speaker 9 (18:17):
Like it's a it can be both things at the
same time, Like we're in their front yard, if you will,
Like we have built this civilization in their land, and
we're like, what are you doing here?

Speaker 2 (18:31):
It's like, well, you're living in their ear.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
I mean, so sometimes people can sort of on a
first glance, you know, well I lost my the coyote
eight my cat or my daughter, are you know, sure
at point taken? But also, you know, we need to
learn to live together. Harri's first impulses. I've lost friends
to you know, flying in hyperspace. My dad's a pilot.
I know plenty of people who have had birds come

(18:56):
into propellers and cause major accidents. You can blame them birds,
but also you're in their sky, you know, And so
it like both things can be true.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
So it was interesting to see her sort.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
Of guttural first response being so negative, and of course
it's born out of her love for friends.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
That she's lost, as you said.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
But also I think it's an important lesson to really
look at the macro, Like I think Ezra really forces
us to look at a bigger picture and to listen
and to be still, to look at the full picture
of what's really going on. And I think Hara learns
an important lesson. And I love how Sabine was like, well,
we got to follow the Pergil like you. I just

(19:38):
thought that was really sweet how you were just like, yeah,
you're not gonna like this, but we need to follow them.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
Yeah. But I.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Thought it was a really a very Star Wars moment
for her to kind of admit that her bias was
inaccurate to extent.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
And anyway, I got a lot out of that personally,
And I did not remember that as I did the scene.
It didn't it didn't hit me as heavily as it
did in the rewatch. So there are many things to
consider in most situations, but particularly this one, and I
was glad that Ezra guided us to see all that.
It was very special.

Speaker 8 (20:21):
Mm.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
Yeah, absolutely. And you know, between this last week's episode
in this week's episode, Like last week we saw what
what the force can also be known as we touched
on the Ashla. This week, it's almost like we're seeing
the living force in the form of like ecology, if
you will, because it's like we're seeing that, oh, hyperspace
travel wasn't an invention of mankind. It's something that was
like already in nature, like that thing that was really cool.

(20:47):
It's like, oh, they like this wasn't invented by a person,
like this just existed by creation if we Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
Yeah, and like the oh gosh, what do you call
like the glow arms in New Zealand bio luminescence. Yeah,
that was so cool, Like the very.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
Last shot, Yeah, they're pretty sick. JC. When Ezra says
I've got a good feeling about this, is that a
play on like the Han solo. I got a bad
feeling about this.

Speaker 6 (21:19):
It's gotta be got to be.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
I enjoyed that, Okay.

Speaker 5 (21:23):
One of my favorite parts is when it looks like
everyone's corning on by the mining gills and Kanan's like,
I can't believe him to be beat by this guy,
and that reminded me of has anyone everyone seen Ace
Vanterro when nature calls. Remember when that guy comes out
and Jim carries like, this is it?

Speaker 6 (21:39):
I had to beat him.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
It was like it was that energy that Freddy had
in that line read and I wouldn't be surprised that
maybe that was his internal model channel.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
He did it too in this in the scene with
Harrow when I forget they were talking about the peartle,
but he does this like big sarcastic, carrious thing that
it made me laugh, like I did not remember him
doing that.

Speaker 5 (22:01):
He's like, oh, good thing, we didn't waste their blasters on.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
That's exactly.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
When Canaan makes a joke, it's it's so it's so
great because he's so serious all the time. And then
when Freddy inserts like a little levity and a little
a little SaaS not sass, that's that's not a great word,
but you know what I mean, like a little attitude
to a to a line, it's like it's it's really
a treat.

Speaker 5 (22:27):
I feel like it's like when Batman makes a joke,
like wait a minute, you can be funny, Yeah, what's
going on?

Speaker 6 (22:32):
And it's so.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Funny, Like he's so funny that it really works. I
also love that in lieu of a jet pack, Sabine
just rides Chopper on down.

Speaker 10 (22:45):
When you guys jumped, I was a commitment to a
bit let's I mean truly And what do you guys
just like jet Well, you didn't do what you were
supposed to do.

Speaker 5 (22:56):
Anxiety.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
It's like Spider Man and when he is trying to
sling his things going out.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
But again another comment to the U are about the
animation when you're looking in the Pergol's eyes again, when
you're choking to death or you know, struggling to breathe,
when the Pergol's eyes are are sort of doing sort
of a hyperspace thing, and we see the reflection in
Ezra's eyes. That was that was incredible to me. I

(23:28):
don't I don't think I've ever seen anything like that
in animation either. Like, once again to the team, but
could you even even imagine that when you.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Were recording it that it would look that awesome?

Speaker 4 (23:39):
I mean no, I think you made a great point too,
because that's something huge for me of like on screen,
like the biggest thing I think it is like just
the eyes connect with the eyes and like you'll feel
the human miss there, like if You're alive there, that's
what matters. And I'm like, oh, well, you don't get
that in animation, but you're right, like with this and

(24:00):
not with Ezra as much as the Pergol. Like how
they animated that. I was like, Oh, I'm feeling the connect,
the connection that I look for in various other TV
shows and films. You can feel it through this animal.
And I thought that was so impressive. And no, I
didn't know what that was gonna I'm ount to, but
it worked for me. Like watching this episode and.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
I have a question, Sabine your hair, I mean, Tia, sorry,
your hair.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
I'll take it.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Your hair looked.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Almost green, but I couldn't tell if it was in
the glow of the purgle or if it was more green.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
It was like teal into best purple.

Speaker 8 (24:38):
Right.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
It was so great.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
I was like, wait, is this hair that I'm do?
I know this hair?

Speaker 4 (24:45):
Like my crazy what color is it? Right now?

Speaker 11 (24:48):
In the season I thought I thought it was blue, Yeah,
like a blue with purple.

Speaker 4 (24:54):
But every fan listening to this shit, imagine what it's
gonna be. One of those effects.

Speaker 6 (25:00):
It's so high.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
I myself in trouble.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
But it looked like teal and purple, which is not
Season two hair. I thought, okay, don't okay, you know what,
If I'm wrong, I deserve the ad ads, so bring it.
But I thought it looked quite different, and I was like, wait,
am I crazy? Is this not? Is this FORR hair?

Speaker 4 (25:19):
Right now?

Speaker 3 (25:20):
You were staring at things that were aglow? I wonderede
I wondered if the color of what you were staring
at was impacting the tone.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
Of your hair?

Speaker 1 (25:30):
Interesting?

Speaker 4 (25:31):
It could be it question.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
JC will probably have an answer, which.

Speaker 5 (25:36):
Is even more impressive to the animation, if they could
simulate that sort of color reflection under her hair, because
that's very complex, especially back in like twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen,
and I was working in post production of v effects
at the time, and something like that is a pretty
heavy lift. So yeah, maybe the clouds on thirty six
gas reflection reacting to her hair. Maybe it affected the

(25:59):
hair dye.

Speaker 8 (25:59):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (26:00):
Well, that's I speaking of colors. Something that I wrote
down was you or I have rarely seen yellow lasers bolt?
Like is that a thing for the cannons because they
are on like those different types of cannons, Like you
know what I mean like maybe that's some JCO is
like do different guns like my stun gun blue, you

(26:21):
see that often red and green for these Empire blasters,
those are all like sort of classic, but yellow blaster
lasers you don't see. But maybe because they're on the
big turret cannons.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
Also, those cannons were highly ineffective. It was like the cannons,
I'm like, that's a cannon. It's like that was most
unimpressed with those cannons.

Speaker 5 (26:46):
And but back to the space sequence. I love that sequence.
It reminded me of like it's very iron Man. Obviously,
I said point Break in the recap because you know
point Break is known for like the skydiving thing. But
even and I mentioned Vulcan mind milk. I'm also a
Star Trek fan. Jj Abrams had like a space jump
sequence and both of his Star Trek movies and it

(27:07):
was kind of reminiscent of that too, So I know,
I just thought it looked so cool and then and
then to have and not go perfectly, whereas I was like, oh,
I just thought like, oh that's a perfect sequence. Like Darre,
there's nothing perfect, but like that was like a perfect
sequence to execute that so it's not one percent smooth,
but it looks like cool for like ninety nine percent
of it until the very end to kind of bring

(27:28):
some like levity to it.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
What happened there, Ezra.

Speaker 4 (27:34):
Performance?

Speaker 5 (27:36):
You know, it happens to a lot of guys.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
I heard it just looks for I think he looks
for the joke as well, because it makes zero This
is a great that I have. It makes zero sense,
like he's so powerful and then you can't come and
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
I couldn't stick the landing.

Speaker 4 (27:49):
Yeah, like okay.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Well you're not a full flat I mean you're still
you go up against such formidable.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
I mean, if it's if it's so random when he
can access it and not, then he should not be
walking into some of the rooms he's walking into with
his chest where it's at, you know what I mean,
Like if he still can't rely on that bit of it.
But also I don't mind, we know where it's going.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
Well, this is a.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
Bit, I mean it's related, but maybe this is a
bit again off on another tangent, When when does Ezra.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
Like Kyber Crystal No, never mind, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (28:32):
Maybe I mean when do you when when does Ezra
become a legitimate, full fledged Jedi. Is there a moment
am I just forgetting?

Speaker 4 (28:41):
Have we not on his chest? Another thing with Star Wars?
Body just kidding?

Speaker 1 (28:50):
Zeb's probably yeah, yeah, he's fine.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
He's a Jedi?

Speaker 1 (28:55):
Is that Is that an answer I should know? Like, no,
because I don't.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Is there a.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
Moment, Vanessa la? Is there a moment where we go, oh,
he passed the test and now he is a real
deal fully filled Jedi?

Speaker 4 (29:12):
Because like there are the temples? What does that mean
when they go when he like experiences the temple?

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Yeah, well, I'm just asking because you're like, well, he
shouldn't be fighting these foes, these like, you know, formidable
foes if he can't even like stick a landing from
a you know, like a non parachute but parachute.

Speaker 4 (29:29):
Then he goes and shoves the thing off a second later.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
Yeah, So I was just thinking, like, Okay, you have
Jedi powers, you can utilize the force, but you haven't
you know, you're not, like you haven't figured it all
out yet. But I guess then that triggered or that
led me to wonder, when are you a full fledged Jedi?

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Well?

Speaker 11 (29:52):
I think you know, Canaan doesn't feel like one, don't
I don't know that you ever. I mean yes, back
in the day before Order sixty six, there was a
sort of a path, and then they now you're in
the council and this and that. After Order sixty six,
it's kind of like, I don't know, you know, yeah,
there's no structure.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
So I think he's on the path. I feel that
his master is on the path because Canaan was never
officially right, I don't know. JC probably has a more
succinct answer.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
Yeah, I think no.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
I was just gonna say, does is it is it
that Canaan doesn't feel like he's a real bona fide
Jedi or is it that he doesn't feel like he
can be someone's master? Yeah, like to train a paddle one?
Or I guess are those do those go hand in hand?

(30:47):
That he feels like because he's an illegitimate Jedi that
he is not you know, he he doesn't have is
not the right person for the job. I guess, okay,
json and wait for jay Z to answer my questions.

Speaker 5 (31:09):
That all makes sense because like it's like maybe Canaan
feels like he's the brown belt teaching the karate class,
and then I think when Canaan against Spoiler with everybody.
When Canaan loses his eyesight and then he has to
lean into something else, that's when I think he really realizes, like,
it's not about the external factors or how many lessons
you had, It's about being at one with the force,

(31:31):
and whatever your powers are will dictate what you do
within the force. H But I think where you are,
would you just touched on like where he is right now,
I would say that has to be part of it
because or in the back of mind, he's like, I
see this kid really progressing and he's getting close to surpassing.
I mean, what else can I really teach him? So
I would one percent say that's valid. And then in

(31:53):
the fence of and in the sense of like and
and on the subject rather of as there not be
on the fully control stuff. So find to me of
the show Smallville. I don't know if you all ever
watched Smallville back in the day, it was like the
Superman origin story. And in the early seasons, Clark Kent
is discovering his powers and he's eventually going to become
Superman by the end of the series. And in season

(32:13):
two he gets a heat vision but he can't control
it yet, so he can only like it only really happens,
just kind of sporadically, but then it comes to a
point where he can control it. I feel like Ezra
is like Clark Kent, on the verge of becoming Superman.
As far as when he becomes his own Superman, I
would say, you know, towards the end of the series,
when he goes to the world between worlds. I mean,

(32:34):
that would be my guess. But the person who would
really know is you know, on the other side of
the curtain right now and probably getting very frustrated here
in our wrong takes. You never know, But why don't
we find out right now?

Speaker 6 (32:46):
JC?

Speaker 5 (32:47):
What do we get wrong? What do we got for
fact check today? Okay, so these days we're not going
to see the mohawk, Like the Mohawk's just gone. He's like,
all right, you guys.

Speaker 6 (33:00):
Uh, I'm going to start at the beginning.

Speaker 12 (33:03):
We'll work backwards, or we'll work front to back. First
appearance of the Pergols. This is the first appearance of
the Purgirls. Is this episode going into that a little
bit more? The Jedi ability to communicate with animals.

Speaker 6 (33:23):
We've talked about it a little bit in the past.

Speaker 12 (33:26):
It's referred to sometimes as like taming beasts and the
first time I brought a show intel. The first time
it popped up was in the Tales of the Jedi
comic book, which was one of the first ones back
in nineteen ninety three. It was Uhlik Killed Droma and

(33:46):
the Beast Wars of Onderon.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
Whoa and now.

Speaker 12 (33:51):
They show that ability. Then back at it initially in
nineteen ninety three. The next time we saw it was
the character Jin Solo spelled jac En, which is where
they pulled Vanessa's Sun's name. I believe this was initially
one of Han and Lea's twins in the old canon

(34:14):
has that ability. And then we see it on screen
for the first time in canon in Star Wars episode two. Taylor,
you know all about Anakin Skywalker uses it to tame
the Reek.

Speaker 6 (34:28):
Which is this animal. In episode two he calms it
down so that he can write it.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
Oh so a little.

Speaker 6 (34:36):
Bit history of that.

Speaker 12 (34:38):
My one note from watching this episode was, did it
if you deep dive on the similarities between Dune and
Star Wars? There are many Did you notice when the
pergoles or per gills inhale the gas that their eyes
glow blue, similar to the spice and dune.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
Yes, I noticed.

Speaker 4 (35:02):
I don't make the connection.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
But yeah, oh you wrote about I just wanted to.

Speaker 4 (35:05):
Yeah, but I talked to jac before we said colluding.

Speaker 1 (35:11):
Uh, you guys are sharing notes before, Yeah, sharing test answers.

Speaker 5 (35:16):
I know I missed the study group.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
That was a good one.

Speaker 12 (35:19):
Jesson Edra says, I have a good feeling about this. Yes,
it's a reference to Star Wars. I have a bad
feeling about this is said all the time, except in Solo,
a Star Wars story in which Hans Solo says, I
have a good feeling about this.

Speaker 6 (35:36):
Similar to this.

Speaker 12 (35:38):
The gas that they are mining and that they the
Pergols consume is called clouds in thirty six, which is
used in Hyperspace Engines. We've seen other versions of that.
Tabana gas is used in hyper Drive Engines, which was
cloud City, which from episode That's where Lando was mining

(36:02):
tabana gas, and also in Solo. Coaxiom is a different
type of fuel. The color of the cannons green is
always used by the Empire. Red is always used by
the rebel. I think they just got creative and used yellow.
I don't think there's really a designation for that, but.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
Impact did that impact the color of Sabine's hair?

Speaker 6 (36:25):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (36:26):
I the yellow?

Speaker 2 (36:29):
I'm just saying because their hair was a diffict. Yeah.

Speaker 12 (36:31):
I mean, I think they took a lot of liberties
in this episode with getting creative with the lighting and things.
Even just when you're when Ezra is looking into the
eye of the pergole and you see the hyperspace, like
it gets a little bit like you get into their

(36:51):
head a little bit. So I think that they allowed
themselves some creative artistry in here with the way things
were done. And Henry Gilroy last week or two weeks
ago said that this was the bottle episode right where
he was like, we need to make a whole episode
that takes place in one location. Which it's interesting that

(37:16):
such a massive plot point was dropped in the episode
that they were trying to make to save money. What
happens with Ezra's performance anxiety. I'm going to say that
the ability to wield the force relates directly to focus

(37:41):
and how focused you are on a task at hand,
and Ezra is pretty distracted by the Pergols this entire episode,
no matter what's going on. So if he is unable
to slow his descent with the force, despite the fact
that his power has grown so much, I would relate
it back to his head's not in the game, not

(38:03):
to his lack of ability. When does Ezra become a Jedi?
What is the event the season four finale when he
lets go of his attachments and is willing to sacrifice
himself for the greater good and not manipulate time and

(38:25):
space to bring his parents and Canaan back. It is
I believe that moment of self sacrifice in which he
achieves he finishes his trial and achieves.

Speaker 4 (38:37):
The rank selflessness.

Speaker 12 (38:39):
Yes, we mentioned Canaan, and just on that, I'll circle back.
Canaan apparently became a Jedi Knight in season two episode
Shroud of Darkness when in his vision against the Inquisitor,
the granting Inquisitor, he confronts his fears and insecurities about

(39:03):
training a Padawan, how he never finished and through that
vision quest kind of thing. I believe that's where he
is regarded as a Jedi Knight from that moment on.
And then just to put a button on all of it,
there's a lot of talk about the abilities of a
Jedi in what makes them a Jedi? But I think

(39:26):
there are a lot of people in the galaxy who
have a lot of abilities and can harness the force
to do those abilities, race a podracer, conjure spirits in
the case of the Night Sisters. But I believe that
being a Jedi is less about specific tangible ability and

(39:46):
more about a state of mindfulness. In old canon it
they would discuss how Yoda would never use this is
pre prequels, But Yoda would never need to use a
lightsaber because he so in tune with the force that
the same way that Obi Wan Kenobi is like so
uncivilized when it comes to a blaster. Yoda would think

(40:09):
the same thing about a lightsaber. Or Palpatine in Return
of the Jedi didn't have a lightsaber because he doesn't
need a lightsabers. It's like an insignificant tool to somebody
who has a mastery of that similar I did a
couple of years of Akito in college, and we had

(40:31):
a guy in class who was rotc like two percent
body fat, just like the you know, the ultimate version
of what you would think of like as an alpha
male could kill you a thousand ways and he was
talking smack on the instructor, who was like a third
degree black belt in aikito, and we were doing weapons training,

(40:55):
and we had fake knives that we were using to
kind of attack and disarm each other, and he was
the ROTC guy was talking so much garbage that the
instructor took out a real knife and gave it to
him and said, if you can cut me, you won't
have to pay for class anymore. And so he flipped

(41:16):
him the knife and the r O t ROTC guy
charged at him overwand and before you could even blink,
like you didn't even know what happened. The instructor moved
so quickly and elegantly that the next thing you knew
like you were everybody's like. And the next thing you knew,

(41:39):
the instructor had the ROTC guy on the ground with
the knife in his hand across the ROTC guy's throat.
It was the most incredible thing that I didn't really
even get to see because it was so quick. And
I think that's more about the the Jedi is not
his ability to disarm and hitting the guy, but it's

(42:01):
the calmness of mind that allows him to almost see
in slow motion and know how this is going to
play out almost before it happens.

Speaker 5 (42:11):
Hmm, that's what I got me, Yeah, the reflexes and everything,
because there's this whole to piggyback on that JC, there's
this whole thing that we don't really see things in
real time, but when you can are able to anticipate,
like on the level of your akto Master, it's almost
like they can see things ahead of time because they
can anticipate the move of the other person. That's why,

(42:32):
like someone like Larry Bird, who maybe athletically didn't match
up toe to toe with like someone like Magic, he
knew the moves of everybody else so he could get
there before they could. And like the perception was like
he was could get there quicker, not because he was faster,
because he just knew what they were going to do
before it. So that's really cool. Yeah, all that mindset stuff,
it's all very present. Obviously a lot of the Eastern

(42:53):
philosophy very present in Star Wars universe. And I lesson here,
don't mess with then aikto master, especially J.

Speaker 1 (43:03):
Apparently we're learning also if somebody says, here, take this
actual knife and come at me, bro I I'm not scared.
I would that would get me a pause. We give
be paused. But what I what I mainly gleaned from
your fat check fact check JC, is what you're telling
us is that Taylor, sorry Ezra, wasn't. He was a

(43:28):
pad one the whole time, up until the very end
of our show. So when Taylor is making claims about
being like the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy.

Speaker 4 (43:37):
He never said. This is just fans. It's just fans
just repurposing what I'm hearing.

Speaker 1 (43:45):
You've talked about how powerful a Jedi Ezra is.

Speaker 4 (43:48):
Let's not I'm going to tell every little kid that
comes up at convention.

Speaker 1 (43:51):
No, no, no, no. But I'm just saying I didn't.
I mean, this is so educational that because I was
really actually curious, like when does when do? I mean
for Canaan too, So thanks for answering that as well.
But I'm just saying, apparently you were a padawan the
entire show.

Speaker 4 (44:12):
Well, now that we've vot what is it, a couple
episodes in they go like, he's a Jedi about Canaan,
but they call him a Jedi even though let's say
he doesn't become a Jedi till charals so.

Speaker 1 (44:29):
Kind of I mean, once you have a padawan, aren't
you sort of a full fledged Jedi? Is that JC?
Is that not fair to.

Speaker 6 (44:38):
Say typically a Jedi mat a.

Speaker 12 (44:43):
I'm trying to remember the sequence of it, but it
Jedi Master takes on a padawan. In Clone Wars, the
Jedi Council gave Anakin, who was a Jedi Knight. We
all know he never achieved the rank of master despite
the fact that he was on the Council, because we
see the memes. They gave him a padawan in Ahsoka

(45:04):
because I believe the logic was it would like settle
him down and make him be less and less impulsive
and more mindful. So even though he was still being
trained by Obi Wan, he was then tasked with.

Speaker 6 (45:19):
Imparting that knowledge to a Padawan of his own. But
he was a Jedi Knight.

Speaker 12 (45:26):
He did pass the trials to become a Jedi Knight,
he just never became a Jedi Master.

Speaker 7 (45:34):
In the comments what episode you can also you can
also are in Stars episode one, Qui Gon is a
Jedi Master, obi Wan is a padawan.

Speaker 6 (45:47):
And when obi.

Speaker 12 (45:49):
Wan defeats Darth Maul, that is the thing that grants
him the rank of Jedi Knight.

Speaker 5 (45:57):
So what you're saying is as is the most powerful number.
After all that, you all let us know what you
think in the comments and everything. But until then, I
think it's time to say our farewells, at least for
this week. And we again, we know you have a
choice and podcast. We appreciate you choosing ours, and keep

that stuff. We look forward to hearing from all you
because there's always really insightful questions and really sweet messages.
And I think as the holidays are approaching, I think
that's I think that's the dose of wholesomeness we all need.

Speaker 4 (46:39):
I think we all agree, right, yeah, So.

Speaker 5 (46:41):
I think I think a Q and A is in
our near future. But until then, what do we got?

Speaker 4 (46:45):
