Speaker 1 (00:00):
Quiet Please with Mel Reed and Kira Dixon is an
iHeart women's sports production in partnership with Deep Blue Sports
and Entertainment. You can find us on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Okay, welcome back to Quiet Please, Kira and Mel Here,
we have a lot to get to. It's been a
huge week in golf. Nellie Cord is a major champion again,
but this time she went to the US Women's Open.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Mel Yeah, incredible, I said in a podcast we spoke
about it. I said that I think it'd be one
of the great sport achievements in US, in the women's game,
and I stand by that. I think it was funny.
I don't know she came up into the life from
desk after she won. I have never seen Nettie quorter
like lighter or free, like happier than she was after

(00:59):
winning that one. Obviously one you know, shit ton of events,
but this one was different. This is the one that
she wanted. This was the monkey off her back, I think,
and I don't think she would have been quite as
satisfied at the end of her career if she had
not won the US Women's Open. So she just this
is the one she wants. It was literally a dream
come true for her, and I could not have been

(01:20):
happier for her.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
I mean you could tell all of that just by
her facial expression when she lifted that trophy.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
I know, It's just like I feel like, I don't know,
something just released in her and she just was literally
just able to just be happy and not have to
I don't know. I feel like now she didn't have
to answer to anyone.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
It's weird. It's weird, isn't it Like as Yeah, well, she.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Didn't have to answer it anyone before, But I think
maybe it's it's like a almost to herself. Yeah, she
was kind of clenching. Yeah, she can just chill, and
she's so young and she's probably going to go and
do what how many majors did you say she's going
to win six? I think she's gonna win. I think
she have it on the podcast somewhere. Yeah. I mean

(02:05):
she's this is a fourth one, isn't it. I think
she's easily going to win ten. Yeah. Wow. So yeah,
can you take us through the week, because her performance
on day one did not have this eventual win in
the cards.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Basically Nanny gov To not a great start she kept
so the last couple of weeks since Cincinnati, she has
been feeling like she's going to miss it right or left,
Like she just says him, very comfortable with her ball
striking mainly right, and you kind of saw that on
the first day, so she was kind of faffing it
out to the right like whenever with drivers with iron
shots and around here at RIFV you can't. You can

(02:41):
get away with that for so long. Honestly, the first
round she shot too over. She easily could have been
six or seven. Like it was her short game that
definitely kept her in the championship, if you want to
call her that. But she was t fifty six left
round one. I think one other person has ever won
the US WiM's Open being that far back.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
So overnight, well after round one, she goes on the range.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Big sister Jess Cordos there, Big up Jess because Jess
noticing maybe in her grip was getting a little bit weak,
so suggested that maybe she strengthen it a little bit,
so the distant working range, and then Jess was there
with her in the morning before round two and her
warm up, and Jess said that she couldn't sleep because
she basically had just told a little sister during your

(03:26):
major that something is as small as a grip is
actually massive. She'd rather something else, like you'd rather feel
like laid off at the top, like something big, like
keet your left foot down. A grip seems so small,
but I can guarantee you it is so hard to
do because it's that is your connection.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
To the club.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
So she goes outdated. I predicted that she should shoot
the low round the day she does. I think she
shot four under, which was the low round of the day,
gets herself right back in it, and just obviously then
shot like a very good round on on Saturday, and
then pulled through on Sunday. Now, the interesting thing is

(04:05):
she missed thirty greens during the whole Yeah, yeah, which.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
She sh She said that she was. I mean, her
short game was what won her this US Open.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
So she missed thirty greens, which is like unheard of.
But you don't win US Opens or women's US Opens
doing that, like you just don't statistically so but she
got up and down twenty four at thirty times, so
she only didn't get anounced six times, so her short
guest So everyone talks about her ball striking, but her

(04:38):
short game is I mean it's pretty early anyway.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
But this is what won heard the US Woman's Open Wow,
and our girl Charlie made quite the push to try
and win. Gabby Lopez did as well. But I just
want to say, I think that because Charlie came on
the show, she got this you know, big renovation to
go and try it. I would agree. Are her quotes.

(05:05):
Her quotes from her weekend press conferences where she was
just like, I don't give a fuck. Yeah, She's like, fuck.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
It, A fat lady sings in it. So look, Charlie
gave it a good run. She's so fucking annoying though, right.
I love you Charlie to death, but you're so annoying
because she gets off to such bad starts in these
majors and she wonders why she doesn't win them because
she plays like not great at the first two days,
and then once she hits the weekend, she's like, oh, right, okay,

(05:33):
I kind of want to win it now, and then
just shoots on all like literally just plays unbelievable. And
I'll tell you what like, so she shot, Yeah, she
shot ten under on the weekend or eleven under or
something stupid. The one person. I know this because I asked.
I asked Nellie on the desk. Actually, I said, there's

(05:53):
one person that you're probably scared of when they start
making a run. And she was like yeah, And I
was like it was Charlie, wasn't it. She was like yeah,
because she knows that Charlie has no fear. So Charlie's
that she's Nelly Corder lucky number one Charlie. Charlie isn't here.
So yeah, Charlie, I would love you to get off

(06:16):
the better start. She this is super geeky, but she's
she's two shots worse per round the first two days
and she is on the last two rounds.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
So that's pretty significant. You've been talking to Brandle and
well I thought that's not myself. Actually wow, I know,
Oh my gosh, yeah, good for you, thank you. And
then you know he's he's the king of pulling out
a cold stat.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
You're giving him a run for his money though, well no,
I mean he's he's unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
He keeps everything.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
I lose all my notes, it's wild, so yeah, and
then I mean, to be honest, it was great that
anyone fantastic couldn't be happy.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
It was great that Charlie made a one. Oh.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Actually, there's talk about Gabby first before I go on
about my next thing.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Okay, tell me I love her by the way, she's
such a sweete. I played with her in a pro
am once. Yeah, so's she's cool.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
So Gabby in the press conference during the week basically
was talking about how she loves riv and that most
of the stuff in Mexican and she makes.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
It a point.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Every week to go up to the staff like know
them by name, shade the handle's say thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
It's very sweet. You would be surprised by how many
people don't do that. I'm not surprised. All she got
a cold, so I'm sorry, I'm shilling. I'm sorry. We're
just as a quick a side. We are committed to
this shell just by being here today. We don't have
to go into why we know, but I'm yeah, we
are very committed to the shell anyway. Anyway, Gabby is

(07:57):
from Mexico and she's awesome.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
She gets it right, like it's not just you know,
you don't just show up, you're the start and then
you get the check and then you fuck off to
the next event.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Like there is so much that goes into it.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
And I've told you this before, like I have now
seen a whole new side of just like the TV
stuff of it being in TV, like how hard we
work to meet you guys are good, Like we were
having t production meetings at six am and we were
not leaving the compound till eight the like that is
us and we'd like the life from talent, you know
what I mean, Like let alone the people that you know,

(08:31):
the guys and the girls are there before and after us.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
So I love that. Gabby said that.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Hopefully some of the players can take note because some
of you don't give a shit about that stuff, and
you need to.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
It's important. So everyone was then pulling.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
For Gabby, especially in the TV compound, So yeah, it
was cool.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
So she made a run.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
She's a fighter, she's like her veins run with passion,
like she doesn't give up. Bertie on the last had
a chance obviously posted seven under the same as Charlie,
but Nanny Birdie seventeen. So but yeah, really really happy
for Gabby and also Alison Lee by the way, she
was the other big story Cinderella story from La just
skip birth to Leo thirteen months ago. Has struggled with

(09:16):
the lips lips, yips throughout her career.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Has got You were going to say it was struggled
with the lisp. Well, I still have stuggled with nose.
She struggled with the lisp, keeping her bag from a
golf game. Yeah, she basically can't.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
They can't when she says when she's talking in a
sixth or seven.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Nine that Caddie keeps giving her the wrong one. So
it's hard out there. It's a rough life.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
So the lisp game is a rough game. Yeah, and
the yips game and the yips game. So she has
struggle with the yips. But Chris Mason, her coach, just
in wonders with that.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
So she.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
And she's she's an unreal player. So that would have
been the Cinderella story. But so we've got lots of
good stories.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Didn't we. How much did your booty clench on Nellie's
last pub Oh my god, now that's gone in. She
is the luckiest girl on the planet. That's nine times
out of ten that's not going in.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
That has an ounce like I'm talking a grain of
salt more speed.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
That is not in. That's not going in. It is.
Actually I think Charlie and Gabby's booties were doing well.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Charlie probably was on a phone like Charlie probably don't
see it. Gabby was like, you can see the reactions.
She was like, yeah, I actually said to Nellie, I said,
of all the great things that you've done this week,
especially with your putting that we criticize all the time,
like you have put your your boots out, the one
part they're going to show for the rest of time

(10:51):
is the shittiest put you here all week. She's like,
I know, so at that show, I ge oh.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
Then she goes to a playoff with Charlie and Gabby.
Who wins in the playoff Chazza, Chazza. Charlie's winning. Yeah,
I think Charlie was winning because at that point, Nellie's
dejected from having missed that part. Yeah, she has a
two when the eyes open Chazza quote fuck it. And

(11:25):
I mean, Gabby, could you never know? But yeah, I
would have.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
I just felt like that's Charlie's element.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah, And then before we get into more important things,
then Michelle, you go, yeah, retiring.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
It was very cute with mcknna. She's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
I mean, I know she didn't score great, but I
was watching it, well, I was obviously watching it on TV.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
I was like, she swings it in here. This is
so good. Still, she hit the ball incredible. She was
amazing off the tea. Her ball striking was great. Struggled
at the putting was the pudding? Yeah, And but I mean,
come on, dude, she shot seven over at a major
championship and it hasn't played professional golf for many years.

(12:18):
Like that, that's I would I think about that. I
think that that is insane. Like she finished middle of
the pack, she missed the cut by three. Yeah, it's nothing,
that's it's a few more made putts and she makes it. Like,
I don't know, I feel like Michelle should be so
so proud about and watching McKenna her daughter run onto

(12:38):
the green to greet her at the end. It was
really sweet. So I know Michelle really wanted that moment
with McKenna and uh, yeah, she's about ass. It was
really cool to watch and it was really cool to
just be like a fan and be bop around a
golf course. Who knew, who knew? Yeah, I enjoyed it.

(13:00):
We would like stop and get a little drink, you
drink and snag little photo, Yeah, a little chat. I
ran into you a couple of times.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
Yeah, you did, like randomly a couple of times. Didn't
we completely random?

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Mind? We never we We once tried to coordinate a
meeting and then you didn't text me for hours and
then I just saw you. Yeah, I know that was fun.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
We bumped into randomly and then bumped into the next day,
didn't we. We wump into two days in a row.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Yeah. Yeah. So the burning question that I've had for you.
Does Carly like her wallet? Okay?

Speaker 3 (13:36):
So I think we need to give the context to everyone. Okay,
So bur means Kira and I don't know how this
would got brought up a conversation, but basically, it was
Carli's birthday. I was away on the Saturday and I'd
pre bought the present.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
I think I was talking to Kasay.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
Cassette was like, well, well, well wait, you're saying purse
like you need to speak to Kira, Like, why have
you not gone through Kira before purchasing this? I said, well,
I was in a rush. She was on the plane
Ladies Isada. So I showed you the purchase that I
had made because Carlie had requested a purse.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
Now, in the UK, the purse is a wallet. Correct, Yes,
it's where you put your money in.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Now, I am aware now that that is not what
an American thinks is a purse.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
Okay, because a purse is just a purse. Yeah, but
you put things in. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
So I showed Kira, and Kira was like, that's a
wallet and I said, no, it's a purse.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
Anyway, we had this whole discussion.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
I'm not sure how I've done basically, because she says
she loves it, but I don't know if she's being kind.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Oh, definitely being caned. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
So now I'm going to have to buy an actual
purse that she wanted because I did think it was weird.
Bought her a wallet a couple of years ago. So
I just bought her another one because to me, that
was a purse. So there's a bit of a language
barrier there.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Yeah. No, the best was because Anna was with you,
Anna stock Off and she goes, oh I could see
how this happened. Yes, yes, but she shows me this
picture of this little thing. I was like, is it
a clutch? Is she asking for like a like one

(15:31):
of those little clutch bags And you're like, no, it's
it's a purse. No, purse is something you throw things in. No,
that's a wallet. Yeah, no, no, that's a purse. It was.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
It was a language confusion, so we would call that
handbag like a purse is like a purse. Like when
you're a child and you have a purse, you put
coins in it? Yeah, you put things in it a
coins like a purse money.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Yeah, I wouldn't. Well when I'm a child, I wouldn't
put okay, but then the child goes up. Okay, but
it's still a purse where you put money. Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Anyway, put you put money in a wallet. A man
puts money in his wallet. We put money in a
purse because we're female.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Yeah, but it's not just rolling around willy nilly in there.
It's in something in the purse.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
Well, because the purse is the something that you put
the money in. No, yes it is, yes, it is.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
The wallet is something you put the money in, and
then the wallet goes inside of the purse.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
A wallet goes open like this way, it's like a
like a like a wallet, like a man's wallet. A
purse is like a like a butt, like you can
have zips on it.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Still, that's a purse. Yeah, you have zips on it
and it's big, and you put a wallet anyway. You
know what's really going to mess you up is on
the East Coast they call a purse a pocketbook. A
pocketbook is like the like the purse that you carry.
They go, can I see your pocketbook? Really? Yeah? Well

(17:07):
like a handbag? Then is that a Hamdburg? A handbag
in New York if you're a New Yorker, like a
true New Yorker, is a pocketbook? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (17:15):
I don't know. It's too much for me. I mean,
it's not exactly my expertise. Is it like that kind
of stuff? So Alb said, I think I may have
not quite got what my wife wanted for her birthday.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
You know, I think that Carly played this really well
because she got not only a new wallet out of this,
but she's also going to get a new per So
because I know I fucked up there. Truly, Carly is
a genius. She might be a genius. Yeah. So anyway,
that was a bit of a giggle. For sure. Your
outfits were fire, by the way, Me and Anna were

(17:50):
talking about it all week. My outfits.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
Yeah, we just looked that green like it looked like
a argyle.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Yeah, it was cool. Yeah, I as you know, I'm
very passionate about what people wear on the golf course.
I saw several people and wedges.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Did you see the woman in the heels in the
Barbie outfit? No, carry what we thought of you. You
would have died, You would have a book died.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
What was the Barbie? Okay, so you know for a
is it for a?

Speaker 3 (18:19):
I'm saying no, no for sorry for they did a
cllab with Barbie. Awesome, okay, so amazing. So this is
one of the I don't know who it was. She
was wearing like the full outfit like the trouser. I mean,
she looked unbelievable, I don't get me wrong, like green
and then like a pink and she like took it
at the top, so like bit middress showing. I mean

(18:39):
she was gorgeous but full on six inch stiletto and
me and like.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Kira, that's the outfit. Sorry, I like, are you not
listening to Kira? Yeah? And she could barely walk.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
I mean, she just walked down one and I was like,
oh girl, you're gonna oh.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
My god, it has the most insane hill. Anyway, Okay, sorry.
If you're gonna go out and buy the full fall outfit,
which is beautiful, love those girls, great. However, you will
immediately kill any and all golf credibility that you have
by wearing six inch heels. Not only that, but it
is absolute torture. I can't think of anything worse than

(19:18):
walking around a golf course in six inch heels. So
please don't let it be. You make good choices people.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
And she just, yeah, just looks in agony. It just
looks in an absolute agony. And I was like, west care, Yeah.
I would have loved to see it in person. Unfortunately
I have seen it many times, so I can imagine.
You know, what I decided, I think is okay to
wear to a golf tournament at a fancy even though
it's a fancy golf course.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Is denim? Oh yeah, one? Because I think in the past,
I don't know, I'm like conditioned to think that you
can't wear denim. But of all the golf tournaments US Open,
it's supposed to be the most democratic, the most open,
the most accepting. And if you have a nice pair

(20:06):
of jeans, I'm not talking about like super ripped or
I don't know, just like a nice pair of wide
leg jean or just whatever it is that you think
feel you feel and look good in wear your jeans.
And and but I wore it with I wore it
with a vest and then a little blazer that had

(20:27):
it was like a short sleeved blazer, so I dressed
it up a bit and then I had I thought
that was an appropriate way to style Jeansgelf course, Gorge.
I would agree with you.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
I've always wanted to wear jeans egg of course, and
I always put a bit awkward because we can, like
you say, conditioned to not wear denim.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Yeah, I wouldn't wear them. Like if I was invited
as a guest outside of the golf tournament to rivier
like goll for to have dinner with out net Shone
for Life, it kicked out. However, in this setting, I
would wear jeans. I think it's okay. Yeah, I do.

(21:03):
I agree. That's my agree revolutionary discovery from the week.
I also want to shout out our agent Cassette She
put together an incredible event on the whatever. It was
Thursday night with Always Alpha, and it was the room
was packed. She had all these really impressive people that

(21:25):
hear about women's sports all together. They had all this
great gifting and then Cassette Cassette, she was like, I'm
going to do my best Kira impression. She moderated a
discussion with me, and I was the I was the
person that got to be asked the questions, which is
so much fun. I love being able to answer the questions. Yeah,

(21:49):
because you know, when you're leading the conversation, it's a
lot of work. Your brain is in charge. So if
you can just be the one that's answering, you just
kind of sit there and talk about yourself. Yeah, how
great you were. It's amazing. It's actually amazing. Yeah, but
she crushed. It was so good, and I was a
lovely evening celebrating women's sports. And it was kind of,

(22:11):
you know, adding on to the whole. So many people
were activating around the US Women's Open. It was all
these brands were popping up and there were cool events.
So how did you think the crowds were for the
whole time? Honestly, I thought it was a bit better
than I was expecting.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
Sunday, the weekend definitely got up a little bit more
than I was expecting.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
I was a bit nervous at the beginning. Now I
was a good crowd for Nelly at the end, yes,
like I was pleasantly surprised.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
I mean, it wasn't what I would like, but I
was pleasantly surprised. So I think it helped with like
I think Gabby helped. I think Allison Lee helped being
up there. I think Chasa helped with her little run.
I think obviously Nellie the dream like.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
So is everything they could have dreamed of, literally literally
how a tournament plays out literally so truly literally.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
So I actually thought the crowds are pretty good, considering
like we could hear rules and stuff from the from
where we were so.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
Pleasantly surprise. I mean, rivers just like rivers so pre
it's sick.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Like I wanted to play it, and there's not many
golf courses now that I'm like, like, I'm kind of
you know, I played loads of beautiful golf courses like whatever, Yeah,
I was kind of want to.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
Play this one.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
I've played it to say, anyone is there anyone you
I'm just gonna I didn't know what I was going
to say.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
Then, I feel like you've some serious any golfers that
you haven't played now I played, I think that point.
I played Pebble Beach.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
I mud right, have a lip because it's lifts its
lisp awareness day, apparently it is.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
It is an important thing to chay attention to. So
all right, anything else from me that you want to
say before we move? Yes? Please, yes, please? I would
okay continue, right, So, I don't.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
Know if people are noticing, but I was doing someone
course stuff a little bit like, oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
You were crushing those videos. I loved that. Also, your hair, sorry,
before you say anything, okay, hair looked so great. Thank you,
I shout shout out Tony. But yeah, you look you
looked gorge on the podcast cheers botany Okay.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
So, so on the Saturday, we know that the tea
is going to be moved up on ten.

Speaker 2 (24:55):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
So there's been some discussion during the week that maybe
I should try and attempt to drive the green and
I'm like joking, and I'm like, oh, not problem, I'll
give it a go.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
I don't care what people think.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
So As it got closer to Saturday, I was getting
a bit like, surely this isn't going to happen, Like
I'm just joking. So Saturday morning, we have a production
meeting and Chloe's like, you calls to do it right,
like we've got a permission from the USA, And I.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
Was like, oh shit.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
So I'm like, oh shit, because like I haven't hit
a ball in like ages, like I've one set of
golf walls this whole year.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
So they don't want you to like go to the range before.
Oh my man, it's this is just going in cold. Yeah,
I have no glove obviously, these are not my golf clubs.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
They're just in the compound like a spare set for
like promos.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
I have no obviously go to goal shoes.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
So and I'm like so the whole way through the
first show, I'm like thinking about it, like I'm in
the back of myroun oh shit.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
Oh shit.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
And so we go after the show and they're like,
right now, you go and try and drive ten. So
Branda was like, I want to watch it, and I
was like, oh my god.

Speaker 2 (26:01):
I was like I'm coming. And then and I was like, oh,
I'm definitely coming.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
Well, then it kind of spread so like the whole
of like the TV people started like, apparently we're on
the tenth hole. So I'm kind of like shaming myself,
but I'm trying to be brave. And I get up
to ten and for some strange reason, there was a
crowd there. I don't know why. I don't know if
it's from two. And then people like, oh, someone's going

(26:24):
to hit here, and just I mean, that's.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
A natural meeting point for people exactly the worst place.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
Yes, sorry, So I'm like, oh my god. So anyway,
everything's set up and they roll with it. I've never been, honestly,
I've hit some pretty nerve wracking t shots in my life.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
I would honestly say that's.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
Top five, like in my career, my in my thirty
year golfing career, that is top five. I somehow now,
but on in mind's two and seventy yards, I somehow
no practice nothing. First thing of the day, I somehow
needs to get the ball on the tee barely as
I'm talking to the camera about what a great the
shot that I'm about to hit. Anyway, I hit this

(27:08):
shot and I thought, oh my god, I've actually buttoned
that that's come out in the middle. That actually that
actually will if it's left or right whatever. At least
I've smoked it. Oh my god, Kira, it was the
shot of my career. It was the shot of my career.
I've hit high fade. It's a bounce five yards shore.
It's literally almost rolled. Apparently the TV guys were like

(27:29):
it literally almost like shade the hole, like it almost
almost wanted and it went to twenty foot right, eighteen feet.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Great, you make the part you get out with ego,
Well guess you wasn't filming. No, shut the guy at
the at the green so we can use it? Yeah,
do you how to do it again? No? I didn't.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
We didn't because then I mean, I'm never going to
hit that shot again, Like there was no point.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
I was like, guys, and they weren't behind you. These
guys were behind me.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
They filmed me hitting it, but then up at the
green it would obviously they needed to show what a
good shot it was.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
So the guy was like, I didn't you could just
fake it. He was like, I didn't think you were
going to hit.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
The carwy Yeah, so then I know, But I felt
bad because then I was like, well, do you want
to just feel like the balls there and.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
He was like, well, no, we're just trying and like no.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
So I was like, oh shit, but obviously we should
have just filmed that ball and then I should have
started my green segment from like this is where it finished. Oh,
it could have been on Sports Center Top ten. It
was the closest of the day. We did data on it.
It was Charlie was by eight feet from Charlie.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Oh, my god. Mate.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
To be fair, though, I did say to the crewer, oh, no.
I was gutted for a bit, and then obviously they
were livid, like they didn't get it, and I felt
bad for the camera guys. I was like, don't make
a big deal of it, like it was just a
human error. And then I did say to the crew
though I did say, to be fair, it's actually probably
a blessing because I would have been unbearable for like, yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
So actually, thank you. I have to make you on
behalf of our show.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
Someone wants to come say, hi, buddy, oh mind Kai,
do you want see how it sounds Kira? Okay, we'll
go again. So he's will be Oh he's just going
to guy scissors. He's going to do some crafts.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
So yeah, that was my Your drama of the week
is sorry, that's horrible, devastating. I also just want to
point out that mel professional golfer of seventeen years, was
nervous about hitting this shot. And if anybody out there
is feeling bad about feeling nervous about your golf game

(29:42):
in any capacity, just know that even miss LPGA Tour
winner over here starts to doubt herself. So just go
out and live your truth. Just leave you my legs.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
Kara was shaking, so but I thought the camera's going
to see my ass cheeks shaking.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
That's how bad it was. A TV thing is sometimes
when you're you're like looking at somebody for a long
time on TV and you start to feel like your
eye is twitching or your mouth your smile, but no
one can actually see it. You can just feel it
your muscles shaking on the inside, but you can't.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
And like with an interview, sometimes I can feel my
handshaking adrenaline.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
But but when your hand is shaking, though it's such
a slight tremor in real life, it's not noticeable.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
But it feels like it feels it feels like like I.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
Can't keep the microphone near his face. But it's not I.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
Know, like you look back at TV. That was fine,
but I literally feel like I'm going like this in
his face. Like I thought, I felt like, well that
was bad analogy.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Well you know what I mean. They can't okay anyway,
anything else anything else from it. No, I was just
I loved it. I thought.

Speaker 3 (30:58):
The golf also, we need to this, Okay, the women.
Now that we're getting like these golf courses on the rotor,
it is the best thing ever because we will play
them how they're supposed to be played.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Does that make sense, Like we they don't have to
go and trick out the golf course.

Speaker 3 (31:17):
It's eight yards where it's not really like it's just stupid,
like this is how rips should have been played. So
watch out for the rest of the venues because these
old school golf courses are just absolute.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Money for the women. For the women.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
Yeah, and it's just is so sick that we're just
going to have such a fun they'll run here.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Yeah. Well, shout out to the USGA and the US
Women's Open for putting together an amazing week.

Speaker 3 (31:45):
We love that it was spot on as well by way,
and I said that Shannon I was and Mike one
and I was like, you know, I I you You're
set up. This week is absolutely spot on. I just
was very impressed with the whole thing, very very impressed.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
I was. I was blown away by the whole experience.
And we got the champion that golf needed. So although
Charlie would have been a good champion too, Charlie or Gabby,
that's the thing. Honestly, that was a thing. So what

(32:21):
you doing this week? Hey dog? Oh my gosh. So
I the reason I sound like a man today is
because I was at golf's longest day all day on Monday.
But it was great because the course that I was
assigned to is in Sacramento, so I got to drive
to work like a normal person. Wow. It was just
under two hours away at Del Passo Country Club, which

(32:44):
is just if you're from northern California. Setting aside the
pebbles and all the San Francisco golf courses, that's a
different category I would say of Northern California golf. This
place is like everything I grew up on, just basic
class nor Cal Seventy seven players or four spots in

(33:07):
my qualifier, and we had we had like Jeff Ogilvie
and Michael Block and Taylor Montgomery who actually ended up
making it through, and then just a ton of college players,
and three out of the four spots went to college players,
and they they're the ones that made it through. But
I mean, it's so my favorite part. At the end

(33:29):
of the night, this kid, Matthew Roebliss, I think that's
his last name, who goes to Santa Clara. He is
a he's about to be a junior. He told me
that he had a paper to write that night after
the qualifier and he was like, I'm not writing this paper.
It's not happen, okay. But it was just such a

(33:51):
pure joy moment because I saw him in the parking
lot with his caddie all the way out. We're leaving,
it's getting dark, they're getting in this clearly they had
borrowed the Santa Clara Athletics van to drive up the
solf tournament, and they are hootin' and hollering in the
parking lot and he goes, what do you mean I'm

(34:12):
playing in the US Open. Doesn't even make sense. They're
just screaming and it just was such a It was
like the end of a movie, a coming of age story.
I was like, where is the music in the background,
Like Sting should be playing it. Just it was just
so pure and every every reason why you love golf

(34:33):
and why golf song. This day is really cool and special.
And if you don't know what it is, it's a
day that they have qualifying sites all across the country
and you have people that are trying to get the
last spots for the US Open and which will be
at Shannakok next week, and like you get cool stories
that make it through, Like sometimes you get a plumber

(34:53):
or a fireman or a new ps driver, but mostly
it's a lot of really really good college players and
the odd Tour pro. Yeah, Miles Russell qualified Miles Russell,
yeah with uh did he have Charlie Works on the bag?

Speaker 3 (35:07):
Yeah, And he had like a triple on his last
hole of a round one and then he doubled eight
in round two, so he still got through shooting with it.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
I know.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
So yeah, it's Uh, it's funny. I like looking at
I like looking down next, I'm like, oh my god.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
JB.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Holmes. I haven't heard about him for ages and things
like that, isn't it?

Speaker 2 (35:25):
And I'm like, whoa, I where did that come from? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (35:29):
And then you look at players like that you didn't
really weren't even in like Tony Feenow like, oh yeah,
I know break Max Homer, Yeah yeah, I know. Max
Homer who lost in a playoff last year to get
in and lost in a playoff again this year.

Speaker 2 (35:42):
Sucks.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
Goad, it sucks, but well well done for doing that, Cara.
I know it's a long day.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
Yeah, it's one of those days. It's like, oh gosh,
so like it's golf longest day. The name lives up
to the hype of why it is what it is,
but at the end of the day, these are you know,
sometimes these are kids that are coming from smaller schools,
or they're playing in their first major championship, their first
US Open, and the emotion is real. The families are crying.

(36:11):
It's uh, it's really cool. It's like a pure celebration
of golf. Fun fun day. The rest of my week,
Let's see g Hayes in town, Michelle's in town. We're
gonna have some girly time this week, and then I
am gonna completely shut it down. For the weekend, do nothing,

(36:31):
and then I'm gonna be on the road for three weeks.
So nice. Yeah, I've got the US Open, We're I'll
be working for NBC. I'm really excited. So if you
turn on the TV during the week, you might see
some interviews for me. And then I'll have a week
in between where I'll be in New York City doing
some random work, and then week after that I'll be

(36:52):
at Travelers for NBC. So you to be my big,
my big summer push. Nice. Nice? What about you, my friend?

Speaker 3 (37:04):
So yeah, I got back yesterday and traveling out today again,
but Carlie and Kaiker with me.

Speaker 2 (37:09):
I'm heading out to daw So detroitro. I was just there,
really I've did. Yes, well, it'll be my shosh of
the week.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
But okay, well Midlands so I've got to drive like
a couple of hours. But it's the team event this
week and Nanny's playing actually with Olivia Cowan.

Speaker 2 (37:27):
I was. I was like, you're still going to play?

Speaker 3 (37:29):
Yeah, I was like, okay, you go girl, And angel
Yin is playing with Julie Inkster.

Speaker 2 (37:38):
What yes, why that's amazing. I know, I know, the
most insane.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
So I'm like, I'm it's giving me life. On my
third week, this is my it was my fourth event
in three weeks because obviously with the nub A, So yeah,
that pairing has giving me life. So but the family
is coming out, Well we'll see how that goes. Because yeah,
so Kai's kin and Carly and then they then after that,

(38:08):
I go straight to the US open the Men's USA
worker for sky.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
Oh good, yeah, okay, so we can hang yeah, and
then I've got KPMG. I'm doing.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
Yeah, I mean we can talk about that, but I'm
doing the first bit with golf on then the second
bit with NBC.

Speaker 2 (38:23):
I will say.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
So I'm away for three weeks, doing three different roles
for almost three different companies. Like companies is a bitch
because I'm having to pack for like like i have
to wear a certain clothes with sky h I can't
wear my golf And then I'm on course a little
bit during KPMG, so I have to pack some on
course stuff. But I'm also in the booth, but I'm
also doing life from Kira. This is it was quite

(38:45):
the stressful pack yesterday.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Yeah, And I also don't have enough clothes because I
need to get. I have like fifteen outfits, but I've
been on the desk or like, I've worn a lot
of them.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
So hopefully that green shirt that you were working, if
I was saying that, thank you, very nice hip pop. Well,
jewel tones look great on TV. Yeah, okay, so emerald, ruby, sapphire,
that sort of stuff. So a blue a green, yeah,
to translate.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
Like it was like, but not a bright one, like
a soft one, like a dark one.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
Is that what you mean? Like a saturated green? That
green you were wearing is is like a sage? No,
that wasn't sage. That was green. That was true green.

Speaker 3 (39:30):
Oh oh sorry, because I wore a couple of retail yes.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
Thank you. I'm talking about the one with the when
you had your hair down and you had the yeah
yeah yeah, ye yeah that was that? Is that out
that combo with the hair down in that sort of shirt,
that is your sweet spot right there. You've never looked better,
Thank you, Bobes. Yeah. So I think you should just
like get that shirt in any color that it comes in.
I literally have it in five colors. Okay, great, so
just wear that on repeat. Okay, cool.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
So it's just quite a stressful pack and then yeah,
I don't, I don't. I need to go better new
suitcase because I need like a medium suitcase and that's
the whole thing. I'll ask for that for Santa for
Christmas because my carry one doesn't it's not transferring right now.

Speaker 2 (40:13):
You know what suitcase I have that is a splurge
so rern whatever it is. Yeah, yes, I love it
because it's the easiest glide. Oh, I like a good glide.
It's it's such a light bag, but it's uh, it's
the glide is so really and yeah, it's really for

(40:35):
somebody that travels as much as we do.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
I could justify it. Yeah, okay, I'll look into that.
So I'll treat myself.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
I'll do that after we get our profers.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
That's true, Okay, cool cool. So yeah, this is the
home stretch for me for a little bit.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
So I'm sorry. Good. Yeah, do you have a stresh
of the week? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (41:01):
Yeah, my shish. That really was that not filming me?
But I'm going to change it. Yes, actually no, I am,
actually I am so our hotel and we're in we're
in Santa Monica right, so the hotel we're in last week,
so obviously we're finishing like live froms like quite late,
like at times like half eight, and I don't know,

(41:23):
you just you know what. It's like, adrenaline's going a
bit afterwards and you just need to like decompress and
I just not not at all time, but like just
look glass Wine at night.

Speaker 2 (41:32):
The hotel bar shut at ten and like literally would
kick you out.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
So I was like, this sucks, like yeah, and I
don't know, just don't do that, like just be aware
of your surroundings, Like there's a bunch of people to
come in trying to get a drink and you've shut
it down.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
Oh where're yeah, like what are we doing here? If
you see something, say something, yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:52):
Literally, if you see something, say something like just be
aware that we just like ten of us trying to
get a drink here. And then like now I shad
ten and I'm like, well really no, I just we
need to just stop a chat and do you compress
and we can do that.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
So it was annoying. I'm sorry, Well she was okay.
So I've been wanting to tell you this story for
two weeks now. I think I was in Detroit for
an event a couple of weeks ago. And it was
a lovely event, well executed, amazing, and we did this
Q and a portion of the of the event that

(42:27):
I hosted. And if this gentleman is listening, hello sir,
thank you so much for listening and for adding to
our our numbers. I really appreciate you. You've told me this,
not on the no I told you, well, I texted you,
but I did. Ye. Yes, everyone needs to hear this.
You didn't say it on the show, but I was
so jarred in the moment that I just was like, Okay,

(42:49):
so we're going on. This is such like such a
nice Q and A. And the questions are supposed to
be for the for the guests that we have, not
for me, but the this gentleman raises his hey and
and he goes, I have a question for you talking
about me, And I was like, I like, set up
a little straighter, and I'm like, oh, for wh of course,

(43:12):
god please, and he goes, I heard you have this podcast.
Quiet please, And I was like, oh my god, yes,
and he goes. I listened to it the other day.
I thought it was about golf, but you're just talking
about playing beer pong, which we weren't by the way it.

(43:35):
We literally got mentioned for a second and he says
it in front of the room of like eighty people,
and I just I was, so, I was, I was like,
what do I do? Like do I just so? I
was like, it's fine, just play it off. So I said, sir,
there's context here, thank you. I had attended my husband's

(43:58):
college reunion and we played beer pong at the reunion
and which I hadn't done in like ten years. So
I was just sharing that story on the show, because yes,
we talk about golf, but we also talk about life.
But thank you for listening. I host it alongside Mel
Reid and retired LPGA Claire. We're on iHeartRadio. You can

(44:19):
tune in every Wednesday. Well, you know, it gave the
whole thing and tried to kind of move on everybody
in that room afterwards, anybody I ran into on the
golf course orherever. People kept coming up to here and
they're like, what was that question, dude? What the fuck? Well,
it's just like it's just such a classic. It made
me fund so uncomfortable.

Speaker 3 (44:38):
I know, and I know, yeah, you would have played
off great, but I know what you would have been
feeding also is our podcast.

Speaker 2 (44:45):
Does he not understand that, like, we can say whatever
we want. I thought that's gonna be about golf.

Speaker 3 (44:51):
Okay, I mean it is it listened to a golf podcast,
listened to a more golfie one. If you want to
do that, Like, yeah, you know it's not that's not
we golf. Let me have a gossip.

Speaker 2 (45:02):
Yeah, and everybody loves a gass yeah, literally, especially when
it's golf rebated. Yes, yes, so well anyway, I appreciate you,
sir for listening. I hope you're still listening and it's
all good. But maybe just next time we can just
talk about it to decide if we don't have to
call me out from playing in front of people. And

(45:28):
also who cares, That's what I'm saying. I am thirty
four years old. I can play beer pong once.

Speaker 3 (45:37):
Kira as a joke, Kira, I'm thirty eight and my
favorite game in the whole world is beer pong.

Speaker 2 (45:43):
So listen, do you know what I'm going to tell? Yeah?
I actually hope i'm him next week. Do you want
to want to know?

Speaker 3 (45:52):
It's like, here is the here's the princess out of
this duer?

Speaker 2 (45:56):
So do you really want to know? What I get
up to. I don't have you listen to our show
again after that, So that's okay anyway, anyway, all right, okay, well,
safe travels and messieur, thank you so much. Yeah, I'll
see what the EU is open. Yeah, there's no way
we're gonna be able to see each other off the
golf course because it's insane to get around.

Speaker 3 (46:18):
So we're say miles away as well, we're in the hotel,
like forty miles away.

Speaker 2 (46:22):
You're gonna it's gonna take you like hours to get
to know I know every day I know La or
you said, it will literally take us to us together. Yeah,
so just bring a book or just accept. It's one
of those things where you're just gonna have to accept
this is happening. I can't let it get me all
riled up because I will get riled up.

Speaker 3 (46:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (46:39):
Yeah, so there's that. All right, okay, all right, I'll
sweet to you. So okay, bye bye.

Speaker 1 (46:47):
Thanks for listening to Quiet Please we'll be back next
week with more golf aps.
