Speaker 1 (00:02):
Let not your heart be troubled. Ye believe in God,
believe also in me John fourteen, Verse one. Dear Lord,
please make me a good example to my children and
the people who follow me at work and in life.
Let my leadership style be molded in your image. Let
(00:24):
me lead with compassion, understanding, love and service. Help me
to move aside my ego so that I may serve
you well, becoming the leader that you are teaching me
to be. Thank you, Lord in Jesus' name. Amen.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
So about a month after our meeting, we officially launched,
and within a week we had over ten thousand followers,
and the growth continued. You know there whatever was intent
that also marriage would be a part of life church,
those three men continue to pour in to me to
give me ideas and encouragement. But it was soon God
(01:04):
and me and this was new territory for me. It
was like we were building this airplane and we're trying
to get everything right when the plane all of a
sudden took off. In the first three to four years,
seemed like we were trying to build a plane while
it was flying in the air. So the challenge to
(01:24):
lead was never overwhelming. I guess but it was close
at times, and I had a lot to learn and
really didn't have a lot of time to learn it
in so I soon knew that I couldn't do this
on my own. That was one of the principles that
I learned very quickly, just because I thought, oh my gosh,
(01:45):
this became really clear one night when I asked people
to give us their prayer request for their marriages. So
I had done this before, and we'd only have like
a handful of requests come in, and so I'd usually
do it. We'd kind of post this at six in
the evening, like about nine o'clock. I go in and
I'd like and I answer the prairie request and pray
for them and that kind of stuff. So that night,
(02:08):
in thirty minutes, we had one hundred and eighty six request,
and I can remember walking in to my wife Nan thing,
go on, we've got one hundred eighty six requests. You
got to come and help me. I don't know how
we're going to pray for all these people.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
In this episode of Relentless Hope, doctor Kim Kimberling, author
and professional Christian counselor, teaches us that leaders don't go
it alone, they bring people on when they need it,
and how to learn to lead when we don't have
much time. Doctor Kim shares his journey with Awesome Marriage,
a technology based ministry aimed at helping people who are married,
(02:44):
people in struggling marriages, people who are engaged, and people
who are divorced and who want to heal and remarry someday.
We learn about the ups and downs of starting this
new venture and the leadership lessons got taught Doctor Kim
along the way. As doctor Kim explains, Awesome Marriage was
started in twenty ten, when social media was very different
(03:06):
than it is today. As doctor Kim explains, for the
first few years, it felt like he was building an
airplane while also flying it. We hear how doctor Kim
quickly realized he couldn't do it on his own. The
night Awesome Marriage received one hundred and eighty six prayer
requests from people asking doctor Kim to pray for their marriages.
(03:28):
We hear about how God brought doctor Kim incredible volunteers
from around the world to help out at Awesome Marriage Ministry,
people who are great at interacting and helping others while
also praying for them. Doctor Kim also teaches us about
the importance of pacing people and helping them to avoid burnout.
As doctor Kim says, he tries to be in tune
(03:50):
with his team, including volunteers, knowing about what's going on
in their lives, how they're doing, and how they're balancing
life in ministry because it can be heavy at times,
and passion and desire needs to be tempered or people
will burn out, including the best leaders. We also learn
(04:10):
about the importance of flexibility, as doctor Kim shares our mission,
core beliefs and principles can remain the same, but what
we do, what we want to do, and how we
do it needs to remain flexible. Doctor Kim cautions us
against getting too comfortable with the status quo because it's
going to change tomorrow. Doctor Kim also teaches us about
(04:33):
managing our resources, including learning when to get out when
something isn't working. As doctor Kim explains, not everything will
work out the way we plan and that's okay. It
doesn't mean we failed, and he explains how we can
always look at each experience and learn something from it.
As doctor Kim says, God always teaches us something that
(04:54):
we can apply in the future so we don't make
the same mistakes. Doctor Kim teaches us about building incredible
teams that understand our missions and are passionate about them.
As he shares, he encourages his team, offers them guidance
and monitors, but he trusts them to do the job
they were hired to do, and he doesn't want to
(05:15):
get in their way or in God's way. Famous person
quote takeaway for the day. You are not here merely
to make a living. You are here in order to
enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision,
with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are
