Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey, it's Speedy, and this is Rick and Bubba's Greatest Hits,
flashing back through 31 years of radio gold every Saturday morning,
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
It's Rick and Bubba's Greatest Hits.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Rick and Bubba, Rick and Bubba.

Speaker 4 (00:16):
Checking back in on the remaking of Bruiser.

Speaker 5 (00:20):

Boy Scout.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Caught a trout.

Speaker 4 (00:26):
Let me give you a little inspiration there, Bruiser. We're
checking in via Skype.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
You can see it on YouTube at rickandbubba.com.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
Now we're at Gold's Gym where, oh my gosh, Bruiser
is trying to do push-ups off of a wall. He's
standing up push-ups. And he's clapping and trying to make
it look like he's doing a push-up.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Back off, Whaley. Speedy having fun with the camera again,
of course. He's having way, way too much fun. Giving
Speedy a roaming camera is absolute disaster.

Speaker 6 (00:56):
Right.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
I didn't know this, but he said an underlying factor
of him wanting to get in shape is that he
wanted to be on one of your tennis teams.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
It could happen.

Speaker 5 (01:03):
Tell him to come on.

Speaker 7 (01:03):
I think after every workout, he has to shock the
monkey one time into the camera.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Like, now, guys, we go. I want to hear it
every time. Now, hey, this is where the big boys roam.
Here we go, Bruce. All right, is he going to
weights actually here? Let's go.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Let's go, Bruce.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
This could be bad. He could get hurt, by the way. No,
they're easy. There's the mop bucket. They're going to have
him mop the floor. That's awesome.

Speaker 5 (01:22):
Look at him moving through there.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Speedy, never let him skip like that again.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah, you're working at it. You don't skip. This is
much more than working out. We've got to teach him
all kinds of things. Okay, you're going to love this
one here. Oh, he's going on one of those balls,
the rolling ball thing. Oh, these things are not there.
This is going to be trouble. You know what, though?
They're easing him into it, which is the only.

Speaker 5 (01:43):
Oh, my goodness.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Speedy again. Your camera angles. Speedy's doing them perfectly. Hey,
can y'all see this? No. Oh, yeah. We got it.
My little Speedy acts like he's accidentally doing it. Hey, what? Y'all,

(02:06):
is that better? Oh, my gosh. That's kind of horrifying.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Pitcher Bruiser laying on this big rolling red ball with,
I mean, I'm talking about.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Bun up.

Speaker 8 (02:23):
Now he's got weights and he's pulling up weights while
he's laying over the ball.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
What if the ball would explode?

Speaker 8 (02:29):
If it would pop like a cheap party balloon.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Oh my gosh. If it would pop like... Somebody stick
something in it, boy. You know what he's got, Rick?
He's got a case of hungry butt. He's eating his pants.
He's tearing them shorts off.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
Working them shoulders. Working them shoulders.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Schmitty.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Speedy, give me that shot one more time. You're talking
about hungry.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Don't give another hungry shot. I'm a hungry Jack. I'm
a hungry Greg if you give me a hungry Jack
one more time. Let's go. Bubba's going down right here. Okay,
what would you do? Stop it.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Stop it.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
My eyes are burning. Stop.

Speaker 8 (03:28):
I'm afraid he's going to strain and he's going to
blow Speedy back over some equipment.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Speedy, go back around.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
You're in a danger zone.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
You're in the firing range. Get out of the line
of fire. Get out. He's straining. He's straining, Speedy. You
better be careful. You can already tell it's eating something.
Have you not seen the clumps? Get out of the way.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
Look at the bruiser go.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Hungry.

Speaker 5 (03:58):
Hungry romp.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Anytime you have kids that are in college, if they
are pursuing you on the phone, it's never good. I mean, because,
you know, trying to keep in touch with them, you know,
they love you. It's a different deal. I love you too.
You know, they take care of the appropriate stuff. Now,
you can call them and have an outstanding conversation from
time to time. But if you see them pursuing you,

(04:26):
it's going to be about money. I mean, there's no
doubt about it. Something happened at college.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
I owe something. I forgot something. I need this. What
happened here? And so I was in a meeting.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
Yesterday, and I looked down at my phone, and I
noticed my oldest son is home from college for a
few days. He goes back today, probably on his way
back now. Probably listening.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
And I noticed that he called me once, and I said, well, that's.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
Not a big deal, and I do ignore him. I'm
sitting there listening at the meeting. I'm in a meeting,
you know, and I thought, well, that could be a simple,
how about you call?

Speaker 2 (05:03):
How about you?

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
But there's always something for him to call. Then I
see a call again. I'm talking about immediately.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
After that call. And I went, oh, boy. Uh-oh.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
So then I go under the table while I'm trying to,
like I'm paying attention at this meeting, and I text
in meeting, what's up? And then I sit there and
I go, that ought to do it. You know, and
then I'll sit. And I look down. Now, picture trying
to keep a straight face in a meeting when you
see the following.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
I am at a restaurant.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
And they've rejected my debit card, can't pay for my lunch.

Speaker 8 (05:37):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
You let him soak.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
And I sit back and I said, I can't deal
with that until 245. You could have.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
Just typed in wash dishes.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Right.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yeah. So look at it.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
No, no.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Hog and jog. Now, listen, listen. When I give him
the 245, it's like 210, 215. I mean, I can't,
I can't. You know, it's people depending on me in
this meeting. There's a lot going on.

Speaker 5 (06:01):
How about meetings?

Speaker 2 (06:01):
They're good. They're fun. They're fun.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
And so now you're sitting there, and I start kind
of starting to chuckle because, I mean, he is about
6'3 1⁄2, about 280, and eats like an army.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
And I think to myself, he's eating so much, he
can't even pay for it. You can't pay.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
Yeah, so we finally wrap it up, and I get out,
and I said, what are you doing? And he's got
bad cell, you know, because Greg, he's got an iPhone,
and you can't hear it. I knew it. And I said,
what is going on there? And he tells me he's
at one of our favorite restaurants that we love, and
it's one of his favorites. Now, this is how much

(06:40):
this kid likes to eat. He's very much like his father.
He's there by himself. He hasn't gone with family members.
That's not a social thing.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
He's not there with friends.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
I'm just hungry.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
He's by himself in there eating.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
Well, look what for the storm of getting ready for
this game. And first of all, I'm thinking to myself.

Speaker 5 (06:58):
Rick, let the SEC champ eat.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
Come on. And then I start thinking to myself, how
can he be? Then all of a sudden the real
problem hits me.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
How can he be out of money? How can that be?
I mean, we're halfway through the month. A debit card.

Speaker 5 (07:10):
I mean, he should have money in his account.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Right.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Well, they told him he didn't. So not enough for that.
So then I'm starting.

Speaker 5 (07:17):
Running it a little closer.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
So then I go. And then I love this, and
this is the parent's dream. I said, well, buddy, nothing
I can do about it. I'm going to get your
brothers at school. You know, Sherry's got this going. Hey,
everybody else in the family's at work. Your sister's in Philadelphia.
I don't know what to do for you. And he
just sits there, and I said, you're just going to have.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
To work it out. And he's like, what? You didn't
get anybody on the phone?

Speaker 8 (07:44):
That's kind of what I did to Greg this morning
when he couldn't get in because he locked his keys
and stuff.

Speaker 5 (07:49):
I acted like I couldn't find him.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
I love doing that, don't you?

Speaker 4 (07:52):
So then I said, I said, there's nothing. I can't
get there. You're either going to have to stay there
and live there. He said, Dad, I've been like hiding,
sitting in the booth for like 45 minutes. He said,
I don't even know what to do. I said, did
you order something else?

Speaker 1 (08:06):
So you mean he acted like he's still eating something
because he was really.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
And he's still running the bill.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Yeah, and I said, were they bringing another stack of
loaf bread?

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Just keep eating. So anyway, I said, can I talk–
we know the place there. And I said, can I
talk to the manager? If the guy that I know
is there, let me talk to him. So he gets on–
and this guy's laughing, and this is what gets even funnier.
So he goes, Rick, you know I would help your
son out.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
You know that.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
I said, absolutely, I know that. I said, but let's
teach him a lesson. He said, no, it ain't about
teaching a lesson. He said, I'm an Auburn booster. He said,
and I ain't giving him a free lunch.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
That's true. Not today. I said, good call. Give me
somebody in the trees across the street. Ah-ha! Ah-ha!

Speaker 5 (08:56):
So.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
So I called Cam Newton's dad. He took care of it.
Rick Berger. I'm joking.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Rick Berger.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
It's a joke. It's a joke. So anyway, so he said,
so I paid for it over the phone with my card.
Just to be very clear. Say that again, Rick. What'd
you do? I paid with it, with my card, with
my own money over the phone.

Speaker 5 (09:16):
But see, Rick, how funny.

Speaker 8 (09:18):
I mean, it goes back again to something that just
seems so, I mean, the common sense.

Speaker 5 (09:22):
I mean, good gracious.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Y'all, how hard was I laughing?

Speaker 4 (09:24):
Because I have to admit, at first, because we know
this restaurant so well, I thought to myself, you know,
this should be easy. And then he comes on going, look,
please don't think I'm trying to stick your son and
know that we couldn't be good. But when he said,
let me tell you why I'm not giving him a
free loan, I said, hey, that's a good call. And
that's a good call.

Speaker 6 (09:43):
And that's a good call.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
But did you play with– please tell me you played
with Blake just a little bit longer.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
Well, I said, put him back on. I said, well,
you're off the team.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Did you say, well, they got a broom and a mop,
and I'll be there in an hour.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
I said, I don't know how much but as much
as you normally eat you're gonna have to work a
shift you're gonna cover somebody else's shift this afternoon of
course now i gotta figure out why.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
I don't have any money.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
So bubba this weekend i understand you had uh what
were you trying to get things done yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:15):
Yeah i was working on doc a little bit and
uh On the dock of the bay? Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Speedy?

Speaker 5 (10:21):
You know, I had a great idea.

Speaker 8 (10:22):
I was going to put some low voltage lights out,
you know, see.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
A little better. Low voltage lights?

Speaker 8 (10:28):
You know, I should have remembered that memo I sent
to myself. Don't do anything outside. In these months, get
it all done by, you know, say about April.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
But this is not the time for people like us
to go out in this weather. It's 96, 97 degrees.

Speaker 8 (10:40):
Remember when we were complaining about the wind blowing a
few weeks ago?

Speaker 5 (10:44):
Well, none of that now.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
No.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
It's getting so hot and it's so murky. Thick, hot, hot.
You can't use thieves.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
I tried to hang out just to relax out even
around the pool this past Friday where my oldest son
was like, Dad, let's go hang.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
Out by the pool. And I'm like, it was hot.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
Man we tried to eat out there mosquitoes biting.

Speaker 8 (11:00):
Us so i'm out there and i have an idea
how i want to run this wire and i figure
out that ain't gonna work exactly like i wanted to
so i ended up spending a lot of time like
laying face down on the on the deck and uh
you know if you're built if you're built like me
laying on your stomach is not a good Good way

(11:21):
to lay.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
No, you'd rather have.

Speaker 5 (11:22):
Because you know what? It'll give you back pain.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
It's easy.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Uh-huh.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
Because it pushes clear through to your spine.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Did boats pull up and drown a hippie? You okay?
You okay? It's beach. Get it back in the water.
It's a freshwater beluga. That's a good one. Good figure.

Speaker 6 (11:41):
Oh, that's funny.

Speaker 5 (11:46):
Greg, throw some water on it.

Speaker 8 (11:49):
I tried to pick my time to get out early
and late, but it's still hot.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
That explains the false headline, co-host of Rick and Bubba's
show dies over the weekend.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Face down on the deck.

Speaker 5 (11:59):
I think we got at a good stopping point for
a while.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Could you breathe?

Speaker 5 (12:02):
Uh, not well.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
No.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
And you know, why would you get out there like
that at this time of year?

Speaker 2 (12:07):
You know how you get out there and you start.

Speaker 8 (12:09):
You're doing that and you're just sweating and you know,
you got so much sweat and you can't even.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
See what you're doing, you know?

Speaker 1 (12:14):
No.

Speaker 5 (12:14):
You got a beach towel just to dry your eyes out.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Why would you do that during this time of year?

Speaker 8 (12:18):
Well, I was trying to get done with it, but
I should have just let it go.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Did you get it accomplished?

Speaker 5 (12:22):
Yeah, I made a good stopping point until the winter.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
You should have gotten that done by sunrise.

Speaker 5 (12:27):
Oh, Greg, I was out there at 430 one morning.
What are you talking about?

Speaker 2 (12:30):
It's still 1,000 degrees.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
The humidity.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
Listen, when I walk out to get in the truck
and come to work every day, it hits me in
the face.

Speaker 5 (12:38):
Like a sledgehammer.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
At 230 in the morning. I mentioned it last night.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
I said that's the reason why I think people in
the south, have a hard time getting saved because in
the beginning, you start talking about, hell, we're not even
afraid of it.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
We're just like, well, I know it's hot, but is
it humid?

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:53):
And you're like, look, I live in Alabama. You're going
to have to come up with another way to get
me there. You can't scare me with hell. I mean,
and don't talk about heat.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
It's miserable.

Speaker 8 (13:03):
But, you know, when it's all said and done, you
like the way it looks. I'm glad to get that
behind us for right now. I got to go tidy
up some things later, but.

Speaker 5 (13:11):
Hey, she's working.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
How about that dock will get hot too. Like it'll
burn your feet if you don't watch it. So what'd
you lay on when you would lay in?

Speaker 8 (13:17):
Well, we've got these, we've got these, it's this thing
like you sit in, if you're in the water floating,
it's like a.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Splash pad.

Speaker 5 (13:25):
It's like a wide piece and then it gets narrow
and then another piece like you sit in it. You
know what I'm saying? If you want to float, but
they're real foamy.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
I picture you in it.

Speaker 8 (13:37):
It's like a big floating diaper, really, because everybody will
take life vests and try to do that, but they
tear them up. And then we end up having to
cut them open to straighten all the floaty stuff out.
But they're very comfortable. It's one of the few things
I can put my knee on and it not just
kill me. And see, that's another thing. There's a lot
of kneeling on that dock.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
To do stuff.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
That look of manatee.

Speaker 8 (13:58):
And I think I really came out lucky. I only
lost one drill bit in the water. You know, usually
it's much more than that.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Hey, baby, she's gone.

Speaker 8 (14:06):
Betty was laughing because I have a rope tied around
my drill. and I tie it to something before I
get down and start working.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
Absolutely. That's smart.

Speaker 5 (14:14):
Because what happens, you go, well, no, but I ain't
going to drop my drill. But you'll bump your arm
on something, and away she goes. And I've been around
that lake going too many times, and I see somebody
out there working on something, and then I hear them yell,
and I know exactly what it was. There goes my Makita.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
No.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
Makitas don't float.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
No, they don't.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Nope.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
Good night. Really sweet. But it was funny.

Speaker 5 (14:36):
Yeah, it was real hot. Mama, do you think we
should help it?

Speaker 2 (14:43):
It's just sunny, baby.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
But it is funny. I mean, you get done.

Speaker 8 (14:50):
After you've been laying on your stomach a while, you
get up and go, I don't feel good. You know,
everything's squashed together.

Speaker 5 (14:55):
You got to shake it back out.

Speaker 7 (14:57):
You see when they're having things like a hammock where
they're moving one.

Speaker 5 (15:01):
Well, you know, this is splashing water on it while
they're trying.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
To move it. How long can it lay there like that?

Speaker 5 (15:07):
Get water in the blowhole, quick.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
You think it'll get back in the water? Roll it over.
Bring the crane.

Speaker 5 (15:18):
We're spreading germs laughing like that.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Oh, we are. We are. You're right.

Speaker 5 (15:23):
Laugh into your shirt.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Greg's over there in the COVID corner. He's ate up
with it from both sides. Dad, you think the zoo
will take it? What's that helicopter? Those are wildlife people.

Speaker 8 (15:38):
They're going to tie it up and collide just so
people can watch it while they eat.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Oh, my goodness.

Speaker 5 (15:47):
Stacy will love it.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
If we approach it, will it hurt us? No, baby,
just be very careful. We just want to see if
it's alive. Get a long stick and poke it. Let's
get the people here at the lake to join together.
We can save it.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
Plus, you know, laying on your stomach, it's hard to breathe.
You think a mask is hard.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Oh, yeah. Try that. Yeah, try COVID. They said it's
good for COVID patients.

Speaker 5 (16:09):
That's a diaphragm sit-up right there.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Is there a marine ball in there? Marine biologists land
at a local lake.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
To save a creature lying out on a local lake.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Can I take a selfie with it, Daddy? Holding a
rechargeable DeWalt grill.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
With a rope on it.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
I told you they were in the lake, Daddy.

Speaker 5 (16:40):
People may laugh. I still got my grill.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
No, no. I love the idea.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
I've never been willing to do it, which means I'd
have lost it in the water. But it's a great idea.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
Rick and Bubba, Rick and Bubba.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
We have a story today about the 80s super group
Men at Work. They have, it appears, had a ruling
against them in a copyright case.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
Rick and Bubba contributor John Bird is here today. When
you listen to a number of the Rick and Bubba
intros and songs and all that, most of those are
done by the legendary John Bird.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Birdworks.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
And they're a birdwork. And we kind of brought Bird
in here today to help us on this. Story a
little bit. Speedy, it appears that the super mega hit
from Men at Work, I come from a land down
in the.

Speaker 7 (17:32):
1983, Rick.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
It was a good year. Yeah, it was.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
And the year was 1983. And now, and I remember
learning the song as a kid. Does everybody remember that
little kid's song, Cuckaburl? Cuckaburl sits in the old gum tree.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Oh, yeah. Of the bushes. He laughed, Cuckaburl laughed, Cuckaburl laughed.

Speaker 4 (17:50):
So the person, the people who have the rights to
that song are claiming that the Cuckaburl flute solo is
the same as Land Down Under?

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Well, Rick, they didn't just claim it. They won. So
they won? Yes.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Men at work lost, okay, a copyright lawsuit that said
that they.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
took.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
The song's flute solo from the Kookaburra Sits in the
Old Gum Tree.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
All right, so listen to it real quick. Okay. That's
what they're saying they took.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
According to an Australian judge, they stole it from the
children's song, and now they might have to fork over
over 60% of the royalties taken from that song.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
Let me hear the Kookaburra one. Okay.

Speaker 9 (18:35):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (18:42):
The flute part sounds exactly like it.

Speaker 8 (18:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Well, there may be two notes.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
All right, Bernie.

Speaker 5 (18:47):
It goes da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
That's it. But then I'm going do-do-do-do-do.

Speaker 8 (18:52):
Well, the copyright thing should be more of a technical issue,
not what we think it sounds like.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
All right, now here it is again, just so we know.

Speaker 5 (19:00):
Listen to just the flute.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
In the old country.

Speaker 9 (19:02):
Listen.

Speaker 5 (19:06):
In the old gum tree.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
We can do that with everything. Listen to this right.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Here.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
All right, now, Bert, when it comes to this kind
of stuff, because you parody songs all the time, what
are the rules? I know in America, I mean, isn't
there a certain amount of, freedom you have to copy
a song, or is the problem that they made money

(19:38):
off of this?

Speaker 2 (19:41):
You've heard it.

Speaker 10 (19:42):
Yeah, well, the way it is in the U.S., it's
roughly a measure that you can't take You can't take
more than a measure of that. But a lot of times,
and in this case, you can hear that it's nothing
like it. Now, for instance, if there was actually a
flute solo in an original recording.

Speaker 5 (20:01):
Now, Greg likes those flutes.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
He plays them. Love them. Yeah, all right, well, good.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
So in your opinion, the Land Down Under flute part
doesn't sound like Kerkleberg to you?

Speaker 10 (20:12):
No, and if there was a solo, like they're telling me,
if there was a solo in a children's song, you
really can't copy a solo.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
You know, it's different than a melody. A solo is improvised.

Speaker 10 (20:27):
But like I said, if you put that up against there,
the part that Bubba sang at the very end is
about the only similarity.

Speaker 5 (20:35):
Oh, please.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
I wish we had a flute here so Greg could
play this. And this is a keyboard we're playing. This
is not even a flute. Everyone. Look, there's only so
many notes available. Every now and then you're going to
have one that sounds kind of like it.

Speaker 5 (20:57):
The third time you hear it when he plays it
all the way through.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Yeah, no, but wouldn't you say, though, look, obviously, I
heard you say something like, listen, can you say, obviously,
the first part of our solo sounds nothing like it.
We got a part of the solo that sounds like Kookaburra.

Speaker 8 (21:09):
Well, like John said, it becomes a technical issue, and
it depends. I don't know Australian law. I mean, here
in the U.S., you can go over the whole lot
more because, I mean, we have songs that are sampled.
We have songs that, And you have a whole other
category if you're under parody or satire.

Speaker 5 (21:25):
You can do all kinds of things with it.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
Which is what you do for us, right? Comedy and satire.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
But you remember, though, in sampling, though, I mean, MC
Hammer had to end up paying Rick James. Yeah, they
determined that that was... The same thing.

Speaker 5 (21:37):
That was the same music.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
Exactly. But if you sample.

Speaker 5 (21:40):
He just changed the words.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
But what I'm saying, if you sample somebody's music, you
don't get to do that.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
You have to pay them to sample their music.

Speaker 5 (21:47):
Yeah, there's some agreement.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
But down at the Minute Works, also upset with Larry Platt.
They said they stole this from him.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Say listen, listen.

Speaker 11 (22:02):
Sounds just like a solo.

Speaker 5 (22:05):
That does sound like it. Oh, yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
By the way, are you thinking of a Rick and
Bubba parody song to Pants on the Ground yet? Oh, yeah.

Speaker 11 (22:28):
That's in the hopper, as I like to say.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
Let it be Greg's Pants. Whoever ruled on this is
absolutely nuts. Yeah, I agree with you. Chris in Florence. Chris,
welcome to the program. How are you, buddy?

Speaker 6 (22:40):
I'm pretty good.

Speaker 7 (22:40):
Hey, Bill.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
What's up?

Speaker 6 (22:42):
Well, I was just going to call and maybe clarify
some stuff about the copyright law.

Speaker 5 (22:47):
Now, what do you do, Chris?

Speaker 2 (22:49):
What do I do?

Speaker 6 (22:50):
Well, I'm actually a student at the University of North Alabama,
a music industry student.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Understood.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
Well, we'll share.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Bring it on.

Speaker 6 (22:57):
Basically, as far as I know, the law, as far
as parity goes, a parity can do anything. As long
as it targets the song that it's parodying, you can
make it sound as alike as you want to. But
as far as just infringement goes, if it's like more
than two measures, that's usually the baseline for infringement. If
it's two measures worth of... stuff that they stole, and

(23:21):
they can prove that it's substantially similar, then they pretty
much got a case.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
Okay, but we don't know what Australian law is. Yeah,
that's true.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Could there be some parallel thinking here and nobody stole anything?
It just sounds like it.

Speaker 7 (23:32):
No, I believe Men at Work had that album full
of music, and they needed one more cut, and that
guy goes, hey, have you heard that Cuckoo Brown song?

Speaker 2 (23:38):
It was an awesome riff. Let's change the words.

Speaker 7 (23:40):
Now, we've written thousands of songs, but we need to
rip off a child's song to have a hit.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
Can I tell you something?

Speaker 5 (23:45):
Now that I've heard the original, that's in other things, too.
That she used to do a lot of things.

Speaker 4 (23:49):
Bubba, 60% of the royalties made off that song? That's
a lot of money.

Speaker 10 (23:55):
Take the solo out of the song. That's a 12-second segment.
And they're going to give them 60% because I think
for most of those guys, that's probably their only income.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
That's probably the only income they got now.

Speaker 3 (24:06):
Hey.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
Out of that 12 seconds. Did they freak you out
a little bit and made it work? Oh, yeah, of
course they did.

Speaker 8 (24:10):
That lead singer had that eye that was kind of
cocked off to the side and used to give me
the creeps.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (24:15):
You couldn't sneak up on him, buddy.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
No.

Speaker 5 (24:17):
He had you.

Speaker 4 (24:19):
You know how you have things stick in your mind about,
you know, you know what sticks in my mind is
they were in concert.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
It was on TV. It was on TV. They were
in concert. I'll never forget this. You know how things
just stick in your mind?

Speaker 4 (24:32):
You know how things just stick.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
In your mind? They went out there.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
Yeah, Rick.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
Yeah, they took a map. They took a map of
the earth. And before they did this song, they were
in America. And everybody's going crazy. And they said, they
took the map and turned it upside down. They said,
now we're back in the land down under. And they
went into this song and everybody went crazy. I don't
know why that stuck in my mind, buddy.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
What did he say?

Speaker 4 (24:55):
And he just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
The real Greg Bird just joined staff, what, two years ago?
It's been two years now?

Speaker 8 (25:10):
Rick, you know, time flies around here. Some days it
seems like it was 15 years ago. Some days it seems.

Speaker 5 (25:16):
Like it was yesterday.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
And you work for the Southern Company. Alabama Power Company, yes, sir. Yeah,
for how long? 23 years. 23 years as a blue-collar...
Pole climbing, lineman, and hard working, callous, ridden.

Speaker 4 (25:30):
And then you decide you go into the white collar world.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
And when Don Juan.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
DeMarco Williams decided he wanted to leave the Rick and
Bubba show and pursue other interests and the job became available,
the real Greg Burgess said, hey, I'd love to come
on and work with you guys. And the adjustment has
been great. You know, he's a polarizing figure, as we
all can be.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
What's that mean? Yeah, look it up. It's in dictionaries.
I didn't know if it was good or bad.

Speaker 5 (26:03):
I think it means he's a good guy.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
It really doesn't. If you go either way.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
Some of the greatest people in the world have been polarizing,
so have some of the worst people.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
I understand. But anyway, the— I.

Speaker 8 (26:13):
Wouldn't use the term go either way, but— Yeah, let
me take that back.

Speaker 4 (26:18):
But since he's been working here, I mean, he has
to come into a new environment. I mean, first of all,
he's not outdoors. I mean, he's into a world now
of conference.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
He's got white skin again.

Speaker 4 (26:27):
Yeah, he's in the world now of conference rooms, you know.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
Doing commercials. Client lunches. Client lunches.

Speaker 5 (26:35):
Laser hair treatment.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
Yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
McMinn Clinic.

Speaker 4 (26:37):
So, Speedy, you spend more time with Ray than any
of us.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
I do. Since he's your assistant producer.

Speaker 4 (26:45):
That's right. I do. And y'all have to handle commercials
and getting them logged and hounds in that world, too.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
It's very frustrating. Yeah. And you want me to go,
where do you want me to go first? Just, let's
go how he is when y'all were in meetings. All right.

Speaker 3 (26:55):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (26:55):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
All right, and Hampton will have to jump in on
this too, but here's what I've observed. Greg is the
type of person, and I'm a touch of that too,
but I fight it. Greg won't let anybody finish a
sentence or anything. Example, you know, we're doing the Torque thing,
and they gave us these extra spies.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
It's one of our clients, and y'all are doing their program.

Speaker 5 (27:22):
Extra spies.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
Yeah, extra spy, which is these little bands you put
on your arm, and it registers how many calories a
day that you burn. Now, it doesn't tell you how
many you've taken in. You have to adjust to that, okay, Greg? See,
he won't let you finish.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
He already did.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
So Mike Akana, who's there, he's the fitness director there
at Gold's Gym and in charge of the torque area
and stuff, he's really kind of been taking care of us.
He calls us the tripod because we're a handle. Okay,
we come in, and apparently I'm now their two agents
because I have to book everything.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
And you do a heck of a job. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (27:56):
Well, he breaks out the boxes, and he starts to
show us these extra spies, and they come with watches,
and they sync up, and all this kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
Trying to explain. Exactly. So he's in the process of
opening the box up. It's not even open yet. Not
even open.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
And he actually sits down, and he slides each box,
and he starts to open it.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
What do they look like? And I'm like, oh, no.
That wouldn't happen.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
Oh, no.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
And he says, well, hold on.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
And he gets it out, and he gets it, and
he's just about to talk to us about what to do.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
He goes, well, how do you put it on? And
then he's like, well, he's going to get to that, Greg.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
And then, of course, he goes, well, you put it
on right here, and what you do to get it on?

Speaker 2 (28:42):
How do you turn it on?

Speaker 1 (28:44):
I'm like, well, Greg, if you'll let him finish.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Then I had some good questions that we can't talk about.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
If this is a Greg meeting, we'll just leave and
let you have a one-on-one with him.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
He's trying to talk. Well, how do you sync it up?
What do you do? How do you put it in
the computer? Well, you get this cable. Well, where's the
plug-in on the thing? Well, I was going to show you.
How do you clip it out? How do you move it?
What do you do? That hates exaggerating.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
Oh, no, no. Well, what if it gets hung up
in something? What do I do then? I asked if
you had to shower with it on. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
I thought that was a legitimate question. And it continues on. Yeah,
but Greg, he probably was going to get, why didn't
you let him finish his presentation? And it continues on.

Speaker 5 (29:23):
He won't let Speedy finish telling him that.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
You're right.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
It continues on for, I would say, maybe 15 minutes,
10 to 15 minutes.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
I was ready to leave.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
To the point where Mike Akana puts it back in
the box and says, well, y'all can just kind of
take it home and get it started.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
And I look at Greg and I'm like, hey, thanks, buddy.
He was about to go through the whole process. Well,
what do I do? I can't do this. You know, Greg,
because he's a doomsday guy. He is a doomsday guy.
He's a doomsday guy. Everything is going to come apart.
It ain't going to work. It ain't going to work.
I don't know how to do it. I'll never use it.
It'll stay in the box the whole time. I mean,
he just keeps on throwing it. First of all, I
don't sound like that at all. A little bit.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
Hey, Bob, if that's you doing me, you need to
work on it. Can I give you insight that only
I have?

Speaker 3 (30:01):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
And let me tell you where this comes from. How
do you know how many calories you burn? Click that. Well,
it ain't working. The doomsday thing. I got to sleep
in it? It comes from his childhood. What if I'm
with Lisa?

Speaker 4 (30:11):
Because everything that he used to receive from Santa Claus.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
This is a true story. From aunts or uncles.

Speaker 4 (30:17):
Right.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
From birthday parties. Anything he ever received did not work.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Ever.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
It was always torn up. It was always the wrong size. Now,
of course. So he immediately goes to work. Rick's worked perfect.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
Right, right.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
And here he goes, well, I won't know how to
do it.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
And then, of course, Helmsy and myself were like– Greg,
we'll help you with this, okay?

Speaker 2 (30:37):
Don't worry about it. We'll get it going. Sorry on
the counter.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
You know, it's already over there. And, of course, Rick,
mine and Helmsy's is kicking. His isn't working yet.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
What'd I say? What'd I say?

Speaker 1 (30:49):
But it's not because of anything that this extra spy
is doing. He ain't even got it. No.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
He came in and goes, well, I ain't wearing mine today.
And I'm like, why aren't you wearing it? Well, I
can't get it to sink. There he is trying to
do me again. He doesn't sound like it. By the way,
I think that's a pretty good impression. Well, he does
have the disdain, doesn't he? Yeah, he's got that part right.

Speaker 1 (31:09):
But going back to the meeting, we're sitting there.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
Like you said, it's always been that way.

Speaker 5 (31:15):
Well, that sun's coming up again.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
It's going to get hot. Night's out here.

Speaker 5 (31:19):
I can't see a lick.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
This is a sidebar story, and I don't want to
go down this road right now.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
He's doing it with deer hunting, too. Oh, yeah. I mean,
he's doomsday on it, and I ain't going no more.
You'll never see nothing. Yeah, I know.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
Rick, it goes even further than that. Let's go back
to the ice blizzard that we had, okay? Snow blizzard
wherever you were a couple of weeks ago. He's trying
to get home, okay? And he's trying to decide, should
I go or should I not? I knew I could
make it.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
And he goes, well, I know, but I can make it,
but I probably won't. I'm going to get halfway and
get stuck, and then I'm going to be like, what
did I do? That almost happened. And then he just
keeps on going. He's like, that almost happened. I have
terrible news for you.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
His voice doesn't sound like you, but he's got you.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
Yeah, and he goes, wait. And you go, well, hell,
I'm going to be on the side of the interstate
all day. I'm going to be stuck. I'm going to
be like, you stupid. Why didn't you just stay?

Speaker 4 (32:05):
It's like he cares about his conversation with himself, and
you don't know him.

Speaker 2 (32:08):
Am I in this? I mean, he's debating himself. I
talked to Lisa, and she understood. She understands why I'm here,
but she won't know why I ain't home. You know?
I gotta get home. I gotta get home. What is that?
I was having nothing. What the crap is that? Whatever.
That's ridiculous. Whatever.

Speaker 4 (32:34):
Now, what about this weird thing when y'all had to
stay here and sleep here?

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Yeah, well, then we, you know, start to get our
blow-up mattresses ready because apparently we're spend-the-night buddies.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
You know, we're staying up here. We're staying up here
because of the snow.

Speaker 8 (32:48):
I wanted y'all to sleep in front of the webcam
so bad.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
Well, I didn't tell you we wanted to. Of course,
then Greg, I want nobody seeing me sleep. You know,
and so anyway, so... The disdain is correct.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
Ain't nobody can sound like you, Greg.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
The attitude is spot on.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
So we get set up in the room, and it's about.

Speaker 11 (33:09):
It's like Greg's talking to himself again, but there's another person.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
It is what it is. We get set up in
Rick's office. We get set up in Rick's office, which
apparently is the sleeping place. Yeah, I didn't know that
everybody sleeps.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
In my office.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
Well, because it's the only TV that, you know, Bubba
locks his office because he.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Doesn't know why. So people are sleeping. And to be
honest with you, that's probably a good thing. He should
lock it. Yeah, he should.

Speaker 4 (33:37):
We don't need to be up here all night with
all the doors open. I got to tell you, it
was no party to find body hair on your desk.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Well, or under, Rick. Listen to this.

Speaker 1 (33:45):
So I notice that we're getting ready, and he's over
there fidgeting and stuff. And, of course, he'll tell you
how he likes to sleep. I like sleep like this.
And so he gets up under there, and I notice
he's kind of scooting underneath your desk.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
To sleep under my desk?

Speaker 1 (33:58):
Yeah, and I said, and this is a quote. Greg,
I'm going to turn the light off. I'm about to
turn the light off right now.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
TV was on. That's a load.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
Greg.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
And he says, I like to sleep under stuff. I
like to sleep under stuff. He goes, yeah, you know,
that's got something quirky about me. I like to sleep
under stuff. You like to sleep under stuff. Yeah, I
like to go, yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
And I said, you know what I mean? And I said,
do you have a canopy on your bed at your house? No,
I wish I did, but no.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
Rick, Rick. I don't want it to be real high.

Speaker 8 (34:25):
Do you need a little princess bed?

Speaker 2 (34:29):
Do you sleep in a princess bed?

Speaker 1 (34:31):
No, it wasn't like that, but you know those are
like dug out on a bus, like on a tour bus,
and you're climbing up.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
Yeah, I love that.

Speaker 5 (34:37):
Greg, you missed a great line there.

Speaker 3 (34:39):
What?

Speaker 5 (34:39):
You said, no, I don't sleep in a princess bed.
I sleep with a princess.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
Oh, that would be. You dropped that.

Speaker 3 (34:44):
That would be.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
So anyway, so I asked that question you just asked.
What do you mean you like to sleep under stuff? Oh,
you know, back in the band days when we didn't
all have room to sleep in the beds, I'd sneak
up under the sink.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
And I'm like, what?

Speaker 1 (34:58):
We'd go to the motel and tell them we had
two people.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
Then we'd have like ten. And I always got up
under the sink. He would sleep under the sink. Of course,
the term passed out should probably.

Speaker 6 (35:12):
Be used.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
Well, I slept good, too. And here's the thing. When
I woke up, I was going to be real thirsty.
So I just hit the faucet.

Speaker 4 (35:22):
Greg.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
So working with Greg has become under the sink.

Speaker 5 (35:31):
We were in a rough on your neck.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
We were in a meeting just yesterday, Rick. And it's just.
You ball up.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
He was doing the meetings yesterday when the sales people
were trying to present what they. He starts interrupting them
a quarter of the way in.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
I'll do anything. I got laser hair and I got lipo.
I'll do anything.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Rick and Bubba.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
Speedy has one of his sons with us today, and
we'll talk about that. The kids come by periodically from
time to time, but Speedy has his oldest son playing
in baseball tournaments in the Atlanta area. And at one time,
his wife was there with the two other kids, and
Speedy was watching games when he could and going to work.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
And then we had some adventure. We did.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
That now has brought one of the sons back. to
the studio while Mama's still there watching games. And I
know it has your youngest son, the boss, Reese, is
with your sister today.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
Yes, yes. And, boy, that sounds like that has been
a party. Glad he's here. It has been. It has been.
It was a party yesterday.

Speaker 1 (36:36):
We went, and they were– but, Rick, going back to
this past weekend for you and being at lacrosse travel,
they say it's in Atlanta, but, you know, you've got fields–
Just all over the place. It could be 45 minutes
from Atlanta. And then your next game could be in
East Cobb. Your next game could be down south of Atlanta.

(36:57):
But they're in the Atlanta area. It's a perfect game tournament.
And so she's been there since last Thursday, I guess,
or Friday. And I stayed the weekend. I came back
for work, as you said. But I had a call
from Terry yesterday morning that there was an adventure going
in the overnight hours last night before last and JC

(37:21):
was there he's with us now as you said and
apparently the boss um with no warning uh got sick
in the middle.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
Of the night hey now and hotel room to.

Speaker 1 (37:31):
You hotel room uh so much so that um you
know just sat up in the bed there and and
got sick and they had to check out of the
room at 1 30 in the morning change rooms um
it was um It was a room that was already
booked for the next day. It was a handicap room
that was.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
Already booked for the next day. Which, by the way,
for a while they had the right bathroom.

Speaker 5 (37:52):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
And so they said, hey, you've got to get back out,
but we'll clean the room. They were very nice at
the hotel. And so, you know, so Tyler's riding with
buddies to the game. You know, there was a game
that morning. He's been up all night moving rooms.

Speaker 2 (38:08):
Long way from where you are. Oh, my goodness, JC
as well. But, you know, Tyler's having to play.

Speaker 1 (38:13):
And then Terry stays behind and moves back into the
other room and, So anyway, I just made an executive
decision yesterday. I said, hey, after the show, I'm just
going to bug out, head over there, grab the two
younger ones, and come back. That way if Reese is sick,
we don't know, did he eat something? Is it a
strep issue? What's going on here? But let's get him back.
He doesn't need to be at the ballpark.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
I know that. And you can't enjoy watching Tyler and
worried about him. You talking about our red cheeks? Yeah.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
So anyway, so I went and got him yesterday, and
old red cheeks laid down. in the back seat, and
I got him home and got a doctor's appointment today
after the show.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
JC, welcome back to the show, buddy. Thank you. He's
very nervous about being on, by the way.

Speaker 4 (38:55):
He said he's been on one other time when he
was younger. When you're younger, so you don't care about
how you sound. Well, I told you I was on third.
But now– I want you.

Speaker 5 (39:03):
To describe what this is that you're watching here in
a minute.

Speaker 4 (39:07):
But Speedy is actually getting his play-by-play action on what
is it called?

Speaker 2 (39:11):
Game– Game Changer. Yeah, Game Changer, yeah. JC, what was
it like for a middle-of-the-night move at the hotel?

Speaker 9 (39:17):
Well, it was pretty crazy. So we woke up in
the middle of the night, and he had thrown up
all over the place.

Speaker 1 (39:28):
Wow.

Speaker 9 (39:29):
On the walls, on the floor.

Speaker 4 (39:30):
Floor.

Speaker 2 (39:30):
Oh my.

Speaker 9 (39:31):
So she went and told me to get as much
stuff you can just move it into the other room.
And we woke up and There was somebody trying to
get in that room that we were in because we
threw up. And so somebody came in, and they were like,
I thought this was our room.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
Oh, you moved to a room. Oh, I didn't know
that part.

Speaker 4 (39:55):
So people actually came and said, this is our room.
So the room y'all moved you to, then y'all got
interrupted again with people saying, hey, this is our room.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 4 (40:03):
I didn't know the party was that. I knew it
was a party. That's a traveling party right there. So
what happened then?

Speaker 9 (40:10):
We got all of our stuff and moved it into
the other room, and then Reese tried to put his
hat on, and my mom's like, no, don't put that
hat on. They just threw up all over.

Speaker 3 (40:20):
Oh, no.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
Oh, wow. So there was just shrapnel everywhere.

Speaker 9 (40:23):
Mm-hmm.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
There were a lot. Were you sleeping in the same
bed as Reese?

Speaker 3 (40:27):
Mm-mm.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
Who had that duty?

Speaker 4 (40:29):
Mom.

Speaker 2 (40:30):
Okay. So you and Tyler were in the other bed?

Speaker 9 (40:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (40:33):
Yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (40:33):
Now Tyler's got a game to play. Oh, yeah, yeah,
he's waking up the next morning.

Speaker 1 (40:38):
And so he jumps in with his buddy Stovall and
that family, and they head off. And so they're going
now to a ballpark that's about 50 minutes from where
the hotel is.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
To tell you how spread out these so-called Atlanta tournaments
can be, usually all the brand, you know, there's franchises
like when you had the Sidewinder. I mean, you still
have the Sidewinder. You know, all the different age groups
of Sidewinders will be a tent village. There were members
of our group, which was called BamaLax Teams, that we
never saw. The entire week, and usually you're all right
there together.

Speaker 2 (41:07):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You never saw them.

Speaker 4 (41:08):
Right.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
Didn't even know where they were. Right, right, right.

Speaker 5 (41:10):
Well, that could be in another time zone where you were.

Speaker 4 (41:13):
So now you're home with Dad. Now, wow, it's almost
like you've come through a traveling war. Did you, when you're,
I mean, this is a safe zone. I want you
to know that you can speak openly. Are you missing
the ballpark with Mom? Are you glad to kind of

(41:36):
be hanging out with Dad now? I mean, just from
a strictly kid point of view.

Speaker 9 (41:40):
I'm actually kind of glad to be home.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
That's what I thought, by the way.

Speaker 5 (41:44):
It's not as much fun watching as it is playing.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
It's a lot more fun to play.

Speaker 4 (41:47):
Yeah, ballpark is a tough life when you're not playing.
So did you ever get concerned, though, on the way
home that it dawned on you, meaning it became apparent
to you, well, this means Dad can work us out now.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
I have to start running. Because I know your dad
has workouts he puts you all through.

Speaker 9 (42:03):
I didn't think about that.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
Well, I just planted that seed, didn't I?

Speaker 5 (42:08):
How many different pre-programmed workout routines do you have? It
used to be three.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
What's the numbers? Are there three? Workout one, workout two,
and workout three.

Speaker 9 (42:18):
I just like come in there and just work out.
I don't really know.

Speaker 2 (42:23):
You don't know the number he's using.

Speaker 3 (42:25):
Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 5 (42:26):
You're not breaking the numbers.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
So you know the number. You just say this means this, this.
Run here, do that. He didn't know what it's called.

Speaker 1 (42:33):
Well, they've been doing a lot of stuff with who
used to do tour and put us through it, Jesse.
And so they've been doing stuff outside the house and
going to like little summer camps and different places.

Speaker 4 (42:44):
That even gives me a good– I think I like
this question then. JC, listen to this question. You're playing
on teams this summer. You are doing workouts with organizations
that do workouts. That's what they do for a living.
Are those workouts easier than the ones your dad puts
you through?

Speaker 9 (43:04):
No. Equal?

Speaker 3 (43:08):
No, sir. Equal? No, sir. Okay.

Speaker 4 (43:12):
So the ones you do now are worse than what
dad does? okay all right we'll see.

Speaker 2 (43:15):
There you what you has a pen.

Speaker 1 (43:20):
Look it's been a couple i came up with those
workouts when he was nine he's 11 now uh i
think when he was nine i came up with him
so he needs to say 11 year old workouts now okay.

Speaker 4 (43:32):
All right so basically you just finished look he just
covered his head like he said what have i done
no yeah i'm sorry maybe you shouldn't have been so
honest but And football starts Monday. I was about to say,
you've done baseball this summer. Now, did you play for
dad this summer, or did you play.

Speaker 2 (43:46):
For another coach?

Speaker 9 (43:48):
Well, my dad wasn't head coach.

Speaker 2 (43:49):
He was just assistant. He was head coach for Reese, right,
your younger brother, and assistant coach for you.

Speaker 6 (43:55):
Yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
Okay. How was that?

Speaker 9 (43:56):
It was better than him being head coach.

Speaker 2 (44:01):
And there it is.

Speaker 5 (44:02):
He's pretty excitable as a head coach.

Speaker 2 (44:05):
Look, Speedy's making another note.

Speaker 4 (44:07):
So you just thought because he could work with you more,
he didn't have to worry about all the other stuff?
Or just the fact that it wasn't as much dad
this time?

Speaker 2 (44:14):
Yeah, it wasn't as much as dad. So who fed
you this? Greg? No, this all came from him. Thank you, though.
You're being a funny man. That funny man likes to
run today. How funny is that? Another lap, funny man.

Speaker 5 (44:32):
Dad's a good coach, but he's tough.

Speaker 3 (44:34):
He is.

Speaker 4 (44:34):
I've seen him in action. One time for ten minutes.
He wants the most out of you, doesn't he?

Speaker 1 (44:40):
Yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (44:40):
So, Dad wants the most. He wants you to maximize you.

Speaker 4 (44:43):
Yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (44:44):
And he's done that. You're a good player. Now, you're
doing football. Now, what age will you be playing football
this time?

Speaker 4 (44:52):
Twelve?

Speaker 2 (44:53):
No, sixth graders. Yeah, the sixth graders. Oh, okay. Was
it 135? He'll be an upcoming sixth grader.

Speaker 3 (44:58):
135? Yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:00):
130s.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
130s, yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:01):
What you did last year.

Speaker 3 (45:02):
I believe.

Speaker 2 (45:02):
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. What position do you play?

Speaker 9 (45:05):
Right tackle and defensive end.

Speaker 2 (45:07):
I like it, and I like it a lot.

Speaker 5 (45:08):
Bring it.

Speaker 2 (45:09):
Which one do you like the most, offense or defense?

Speaker 9 (45:11):
Defense.

Speaker 2 (45:11):
Of course. That's where you get them sacks. Who wins
ball games, my friend. That's where you get them sacks.
That's where the quarterback looks up there and says, oh,
where's Wilburn? Kind of like old Clowney said.

Speaker 5 (45:19):
Is it Clowney or is it Wilburn?

Speaker 2 (45:20):
Yeah, I see the fear in their eyes.

Speaker 1 (45:22):
Yeah, we don't do off-field workouts, so they won't be saying, here,
go look at it. They'll be like, oh, good, Wilburn's
on the other side. Huh?

Speaker 2 (45:29):
What does that mean? So you need to develop a
whole new program.

Speaker 3 (45:31):
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, and we will. We will.

Speaker 5 (45:35):
Number four.

Speaker 3 (45:36):
We will.

Speaker 2 (45:36):
Your brothers are going to thank you for this. Look
at JC with his head down. You know? What you're
saying is they age and kind of caught you off guard.
Sure did.

Speaker 1 (45:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:45):
I didn't know he was sandbagging on me. You know
he was sandbagging. Huh? All right.

Speaker 4 (45:51):
So I told you guys, and I couldn't remember whether
we talked about this.

Speaker 2 (45:57):
On the air or not, I don't think we did.

Speaker 4 (45:59):
It was an awkward– you know, there's nothing– I know, Speedy,
you really struggle with socially awkward moments.

Speaker 2 (46:04):
Oh, it drives me crazy. Greg, you love them, so
this is going to be right. And Bubba usually lands
somewhere in between.

Speaker 8 (46:10):
Yeah, it just depends on what it is and how severe.

Speaker 4 (46:12):
Helmsley's a little more over on Speedy's side. I've never
really studied this with Adler. Adler, where are you on
socially awkward things? Do you love them or do they
make you uncomfortable?

Speaker 3 (46:22):
It depends. It depends on the situation.

Speaker 6 (46:24):
All right.

Speaker 2 (46:25):
So let's say, for instance, we're at church. Not that
this ever happened.

Speaker 4 (46:28):
And we're at church and a guy gets up to
sing and he can't figure out how to come in
to the song.

Speaker 2 (46:33):
He doesn't know where he's supposed to come in. I
love that.

Speaker 4 (46:36):
And we get locked down and we can't get it.
And finally, we stop and keep starting over and it
doesn't work the first few times. You lean into that
and love it or do you have to get up
and leave?

Speaker 5 (46:45):
For me, it's distance and responsibility.

Speaker 4 (46:48):
If I'm far away enough from it and I'm not
responsible for it, then I will soak.

Speaker 2 (46:52):
It up like a sponge.

Speaker 5 (46:54):
But if it's in your area and you're responsible, then
it's not as good.

Speaker 1 (46:58):
But see, part of secondhand in a situation like that
is I get embarrassed for them and I become them.
And so even though I'm in the audience and I
have nothing to do with it, I feel for them
because I see what they're going through and I feel
like I'm the one up there.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
Mm-hmm. And so I got to get away from it.
I got to leave.

Speaker 4 (47:14):
Well, the only person I've ever seen that has it
to your level is our friend Andy Blanks.

Speaker 2 (47:19):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (47:20):
You and he, and he's a Marine, which I find
that kind of odd. But he is a person that will,
he's looking for that button to push to launch himself
out of the room to a safe place.

Speaker 9 (47:30):
Right.

Speaker 2 (47:31):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (47:32):
I saw him get up and hit the back, go
out the back of the auditorium when that scenario I
just mentioned happened.

Speaker 3 (47:38):
Oh, goodness.

Speaker 2 (47:40):
So I had one happen to me. You want to
help them.

Speaker 6 (47:41):
Did you?

Speaker 2 (47:42):
I love it. Yeah, I know you love it. You
don't feel uncomfortable? No. This part I know we have
talked about on the air. I feel entertained.

Speaker 4 (47:49):
And that is that when I go to try to
do better, do a little workout, I've got my spot
that is my spot. And I've established it there because
I've been there now for about three, four years. So
it's my spot. Everybody knows it's my spot, and we've
talked about that on the air. Some people call it
like a station. So you've got a little area.

Speaker 2 (48:07):
Well, he's found a place they can't see him good.

Speaker 5 (48:09):
Yeah, that's all that means.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
My spot. I know him. And it's in the corner.
I've seen him do it.

Speaker 4 (48:13):
My spot.

Speaker 2 (48:14):
He had that same spot everywhere, football, whatever we did. Right.

Speaker 7 (48:19):
Any workouts, he has a spot that he can step
out when he needs to get a breather.

Speaker 2 (48:23):
Right. Greg, I have my goals, and some people have
different goals. There you go. Because I look up and, look,
I take a filter.

Speaker 4 (48:29):
And I see whatever workout they have up there, and
I take my filter, and it's a filter for 56-year-olds,
and I take my 56-year-old filter and put it over
the top of them and go, I think that's how
I'll be approaching that today.

Speaker 2 (48:39):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (48:40):
And trust me, when you're us, anything you're doing, it matters.
You'll huff and puff, and you'll sweat, and you'll struggle.
So it's become pretty normal and even kind of a
funny now. that if i come in and anybody's in
my spot you know all the three o'clockers because i
work out at three and uh you're not everybody can

(49:01):
be a three o'clocker and you know three yeah we
get our threes up we holler three o'clock and all
that and um and you know and of course you
know richard in there who told on me he's asking
how much longer he'll be made fun of about that
and i said uh as long as you know me
or one of us does okay and so uh he
even asked me he said so when will it stop
and i said it it won't you know i mean
He said, I heard I'm being.

Speaker 2 (49:21):
Mentioned on the show. And I said, you are.

Speaker 5 (49:22):
You won't do it again.

Speaker 2 (49:23):
You know what I mean? So I walk over.

Speaker 4 (49:27):
And the first thing is I should have already put
on a caution flag that the person in my spot
was a female.

Speaker 2 (49:35):
That should have been immediate pullback a little bit. Don't
be so loud. Don't be so scary and all that.
So I come over and say, hey, you got my
spot there. And everybody's, yeah, you're in Rick's spot. Hey,
that's my spot. And, oh, okay, can I move up here?
I said, yeah, I guess.

Speaker 4 (49:49):
But, I mean, you know, just so you know, if
you're going to be a three o'clocker, that's my spot.

Speaker 2 (49:53):
And it was really just joking around.

Speaker 5 (49:55):
I'm sure you're loud.

Speaker 2 (49:56):
Oh, yeah, sure. And so she uncomfortably takes her stuff
and moves it.

Speaker 5 (50:00):
It was a lady?

Speaker 2 (50:00):
Yeah, it was a lady. And I probably should have.

Speaker 1 (50:02):
Did she already have, like, her bar on the ground
and everything?

Speaker 2 (50:04):
Just, no, kind of had her water and her stuff
set over there.

Speaker 3 (50:08):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (50:08):
It was about to start setting up. And, yeah, that's
my spot.

Speaker 4 (50:12):
So.

Speaker 2 (50:12):
Hey, you might want to... And all three o'clockers know,
and you must be new. That's fine. Besides, that's my spot.
And so.

Speaker 4 (50:20):
And it's all kind of joking around. I mean, you know, I'm...
But once she started moving, I thought, well, I'm kind
of glad she's moving because that.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
Is my spot.

Speaker 4 (50:27):
You don't want to be up front. So then comes
the socially awkward moment. So I'm back there, and I'm
yucking it up.

Speaker 2 (50:33):
Everybody's laughing. Yeah, 3 o'clock. That's Rick's spot.

Speaker 4 (50:36):
And all of a sudden, I look, and the head
person comes in from the gym, and I see this
woman walking toward him. And I thought, probably just needs
a little help. You know, nothing to do with that.
And then I hear her refer to him as son. Uh-oh.
And they start talking about family stuff. And I just

(50:58):
run the guy who runs the gym's mom off from
my spot.

Speaker 5 (51:02):
How'd that go?

Speaker 2 (51:03):
Well, it was.

Speaker 5 (51:05):
Did he mention it?

Speaker 2 (51:07):
Did he count your reps that day? It was uncomfortable.
It was.

Speaker 4 (51:10):
And when everybody started screaming, Rick ran your mom off.

Speaker 2 (51:14):
And you know what? Rick ran your mom off. Rick
was rude to your mother. Hey, Blake, your mama got
in Rick's spot. He's like, you know, I got spots
in here. And I'm like. thanks guys. There's Richard again.
You said not Rick, Rick, not officially. I said, no, it's, it's,
it's just, I'm, I've said, I mean, I'm sorry. I
was just, we just cut it up a little bit
in here. You, you really can go anywhere you want

(51:35):
to especially since your son. Right. Did you offer the
spot back? I did. I said, you know, if that's
the spot would be preferred.

Speaker 5 (51:41):
She got there before you. Oh yeah.

Speaker 4 (51:44):
And, uh, made it pretty clear that she was there
first to him.

Speaker 3 (51:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (51:48):
And, uh, And then– but then it was like, you know,
then you– what do you do then? Then you start
the over– you're trying to– you've tried to fix it
the whole time. You know, we just kid around about
spots in here. You can build any spot you want to,
you know, except mine. You know, and then it's uncomfortable because,
you know, then you start kind of joking around.

Speaker 2 (52:08):
Well, you know, nobody gets my spot. I tried that one.

Speaker 3 (52:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (52:10):
People know. You're just kidding around. Because you, you know,
you can have any spot. Glad your mom's working out here.
That's good. yeah so that was um then i kind
of became you might want.

Speaker 7 (52:22):
You know what you got to do to make it
before it work out in a different spot to show
that it really doesn't matter yeah it's gonna be a
really lot more spot you know a couple times oh
look see it's not a big deal i'm in this
well let me even though your mom's not here today
let me tell you why i like.

Speaker 4 (52:34):
This spot though to the things you're talking about even
to the point that i might just push on through
this discomfort is um So, like yesterday, this is a
perfect example. You know how you get affirmation when you
do things sometimes? Rick, you're doing the right thing.

Speaker 2 (52:46):
And you get the opposite. To pick up pretty quick,
I met the energetic new trainer.

Speaker 9 (52:51):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (52:51):
Picked up pretty quick. Energetic new trainer. Oh, watch out.
You got to watch out for that guy. No, he
don't know. He's here though. He's the time to count
your reps.

Speaker 4 (52:59):
They have another location in Huntsville, and they bring them
here to home base. Give them six weeks or so,
then they send them on to where they're ultimately going
to be. But for six weeks, he's in our deal.
And he's an energetic new guy.

Speaker 2 (53:12):
Sure.

Speaker 5 (53:12):
He's got to look that way to get his assignment going.

Speaker 2 (53:15):
He's looking for results. And even though he's observing, he's
going to have to comment on what everybody's doing. So
he shows he's doing something.

Speaker 4 (53:21):
So the first thing I notice is he doesn't drift
to more of my spot. He stayed over there at
those places I don't like to be.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
He honed in.

Speaker 4 (53:29):
See, we know these guys. I noticed the room. And
I said, they're always going to kind of, they're going
to be in their eyes. Yeah, when they face us,
they're going to go to these people mid to left
more than they can go over to the corner, deep
corner of the right. I mean, this is even where
you go out. I'm over here by like a thing
they pull up to go out. And I said, there's
a lot of mess down here. There's stuff stacked up.

Speaker 2 (53:49):
There's all kinds of ways to blend in down here.
And not one time did it come down to my end.
And you know what I thought?

Speaker 5 (53:54):
Well, I mean, you're talking about it, though. You know,
they didn't hear you.

Speaker 2 (53:57):
You know what I thought? That's affirmation.

Speaker 4 (54:00):
Because he wanted to come correct my form so bad
because he has to.

Speaker 3 (54:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (54:03):
You just can't stand there and not say anything.

Speaker 5 (54:06):
It's like a doctor not finding anything wrong.

Speaker 2 (54:09):
Right, yeah. Right. So it was uncomfortable.

Speaker 4 (54:14):
I probably should have gotten some background information before I
came in all loud.

Speaker 1 (54:17):
You might have to go just one workout to the
front and center where their attention does go.

Speaker 2 (54:22):
I don't know about that. If you look at the
workout and you say, okay, I can do this one,
then go to the other spot.

Speaker 9 (54:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (54:28):
Come on, Rick, you can do one more. You know
I'm being that buddy.

Speaker 3 (54:31):
Rick and Bubba, Rick and Bubba.

Speaker 1 (54:35):
Hey, it's Speedy, and this is Rick and Bubba's Greatest Hits,

Speaker 3 (54:47):
