Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Morning Run. It is
a Monday, TJ's favorite day of the week, December eighth.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
I may be ABox and I'm TJ Holmes. You're right,
it's always a reset, a good chance to start fresh.
But last week behind right, But man, it's a rough start.
We did some cross country travel last few days and
I'm feeling it this morning.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
It's a little fatigued.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
But this is gonna be a good Morning Run. We
need this one something. We are recording here this morning, folks,
before the Golden Globe nominees are announced, the big day
in Hollywood. I don't even know what to keep an
eye on. I just I'm not up on everything going
on necessarily and entertainment. Who are the front runners and
all that stuff.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
I'm not either, So we will be just as surprised
as the rest of you when those announcements are made.
Maybe some people are more up on it than us.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Okay, also today we are Okay. We keep saying you
all the past couple of times done Powerball stories. They
usually wrap by brobox saying we got to get out,
get some tickets.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
We're going to get some tickets today.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
We haven't done it yet, not once. And even though
the jackpot is now up to one of the top
ten largest in Powerball history, at least we can tell
you why we still might not leave the house today
to get these tickets. It would have to go up
to maybe two billion before we would get out in
this cold it's been. It's kind of nasty in the Northeast.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
I was just wondering if you could Uber eats lottery tickets.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
I bet you can. I bet you can. But we're
keeping an eye on all those things. I want you
to know. If you want to stay up on all
the information we are putting out these days, a lot
of updates with trials, certainly our morning runs, but we
just have a lot going on news wise, just click
that top right button sets follow on your Apple podcast
app at our show page and you can get our updates.

(01:53):
We'll also be talking this morning. Isn't this the annual
fight over the college football playoff? They expanded to twelve teams,
so that means team number thirteen is going to be upset.
And wait until you hear who was left out and
what they're going to do about it. Also last night
the President playing host at the Kennedy Center Honors. He
certainly was in his element. Also, a big weekend for
the box office. Congratulations, this has been kind of a

(02:15):
slow stretch for them. Also, is it the case now
Robes you are not no relationship matters or is official
until it's official on Instagram?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Well, there is a thing, and it has been for
a while that you're now Instagram official. And we've heard
these terms soft launching a relationship versus hard launching a relationship.
These are all things we have to navigate now in
this world of social media and self promotion.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yes, so we have a couple that I was sure
was a couple for several months, but apparently it's now official.
We'll explain the pop star and the politician. Also, waime Mo.
These self driving taxis we saw a bunch in La
over the weekend. Well, apparently they need to be recalled
at least a part of their software because they have

(03:00):
been doing a major no no on the roads.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I'm telling you we can get into this, but this
was the first time I actually noticed and paid attention
to those Waymo cars and we were sitting outside and
watching multiple ones just drive by with no one at
the wheel. Weird, the freakiest thing I have ever seen.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
It's just weird. And also another story that's kind of
gone viral, and this will be talked about for We've
talked about for the weekend, but probably in days to come.
A worker at Cinnabon, of all places, in Wisconsin, is
fired after our video of her goes viral in which
she says some of the nastiest stuff you can imagine,
a racist rant. But now Robes turns out she is

(03:46):
getting a lot of support in the tune of thousands
and thousands.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Of dollars nearing one hundred thousand.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Kind of a shocking story all around. We'll get into that,
but first up, a couple of things worth keeping an
eye on today, including some crazy weather and a couple
of courtrooms.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
That's right, it's actually a tale of two coasts weatherwise.
We kind of want to go back to the West
Coast that we just came back from, because, yeah, it's
load mid eighties in southern California. We kept hearing the
meteorologists talk about this wonderful warm up that was coming.
Is we were heading back into a polar vortex.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Yeah, that's exactly what we find ourself in right now. Yeah,
the upper Midwest of the northeast mid Atlantic are embracing,
not embracing, excuse me, they are experiencing.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
We're embracing each other.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
For body one. Yes, as we experience some of the
coldest temperatures of the season. And just overnight, just a
matter from yesterday to today, a lot of major cities
over here are seeing a double digit drop in temperatures
and we are barely here, at least in New York
Robe it's going to be getting above freezing for several days.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Yeah, this is the first of three rounds of arctic
air that we are going to see. It's all part
of Yes, a displaced polar vortex. Can it find its
place away from us anyway? It's going to push another
blo cold air next week, and then another one the
week after that, So everyone is going to be in
the holiday spirits here in this neck of the woods.

(05:09):
But yes, a polar vortex, In case you were wondering,
it feels like it's self explanatory, but.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
It wasn't to me. I couldn't really spout off what
a polar vortex is.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
I just know that means it's going to be super cold,
and it's coming from the Arctic region, so a wide
expanse of cold, swirling air located over the poles that
forces frigid air southward.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, they say it's displaced where it gets a little
unstable and stuff starts coming our way, And we got
three rounds of it over the next few weeks. Also today,
keeping an eye on a couple of courtrooms as we say,
A testimony scheduled to resume in the trial of Brian Walsh,
the Massachusetts man who is admitted to dismembering and disposing
of his wife's body but says he did not kill her.

(05:49):
Last week was the first full week of testimony. A
lot of it focused on a lot of the internet
searches he was doing in the immediate aftermath of her death,
trying to suggest that maybe did he kill her, did
he not? And they're trying to piece all that together
so that testimony will resume this morning.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Yeah. The judge said on Friday when she let urers
go that there should be possibly another two weeks or
a little bit ahead of schedule, but two more full
weeks of testimony, so that should be interesting. They may
be getting this decision in their hands the week of Christmas,
so we'll see how that all times out. Also today,
Luigi Manngioni, the accused United Healthcare CEO shooter, is back

(06:26):
in court today to continue pre trial hearings. He was
actually supposed to do that on Friday, but he got sick,
so they had to postpone it and push it to today.
But his attorneys right now trying to get some evidence
thrown out, including very important evidence to the prosecution's case,
contents of that backpack, which included that three D printed

(06:46):
gun he was carrying when he was arrested at that
McDonald's in Pennsylvania.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
I can't imagine what do you do there if that
evidence gets thrown out.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
It was his manifesto. It was a lot of what
went into and what was a part of this year.
So that will be key and will be very interesting
to see what the judge decides.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
All right, Next up on the Run here, how do
you get fired from Cinnabon? I don't know why the
classic Friday line from Chris Tucker, like how you get
fired on your day off? This is kind of one
of those things. It's cinnabon, right, It's not like.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
You're wat's supposed to be sweet.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Yeah, but it's not like you're an airline pilot and
you just show up with the smell of alcohol in
your breath and maybe you get reprimanded. This is Cinnabon.
I assume there's a lower standard for getting fired. But
this woman has now been fired immediately, and it's all
because of a video that's now gone viral. Rose we
saw this video. It is pretty vile, disgusting stuff. But

(07:39):
she's working at a Cinabon and there's a couple that
we don't see, but we hear this woman, this white woman,
certainly appears to be a white woman, say some pretty
nasty stuff to this couple.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yeah, she admits full out right away, I'm a racist.
This was a Somali couple. What we don't see is
what happened before the couple decided to start recording on it,
and you hear him taunting her at one point and saying,
you're going to get effing fired for this, But she
was not backing down and doubled down and started calling
them the N word and flicked them off. All sorts

(08:14):
of vile, vulgar, completely inappropriate behavior by this woman who
was working at Sinnabon. So yes, Cinnabon fired her and
put out this statement. The individual scene in the video
was immediately terminated by the franchise owner. Their actions and
statements are completely unacceptable and in no way reflects the
value of Cinnabon, our French franchise, franchisees, or the welcoming

(08:39):
environment we expect for every guest and team member. So
there's that, but then turn to give send to go.
It's a Christian crowdfunding page that we have seen something
similar actually, but yes, there has been a rally of
support behind her to the tune of ninety thousand dollars

(09:01):
in counting.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yeah, someone who here, well at least they say this
money is going to benefit this woman and does say
her name there as well that they say this money
is going to benefit her. Now the write up is.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Something I have it in front of me. It says,
meet Crystal, hardworking white mom doing her job at cinnabon.
Two Somali customers decide to make her shift hell with intimidation.
Instead of banning the offenders and backing their employees, Sinnabon
fires Crystal to keep the nons happy. We're not letting

(09:35):
this slide funds go to making sure Crystal lands on
her feet after this betrayal. No white person should lose
their job for refusing to be harassed by some mollies.
And then it shows her smiling with her cinnabon, looking sweet,
with her blonde hair tied up in a bun. She
looks like a very sweet mom, just working hard.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
I am not going to, you know, interpret, give any
comment or any context for that, you know it. Sometimes
you just read it and.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Let anybody will decide what they want to take away
from that.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
There you go, all right, continuing on the run here now.
President Trump was hosting the Kennedy Center Honors last night.
Of course, over the years, we usually see the president
sitting in the audience for these things, but last night
was the first time rose that a president has ever
served as host. And we saw what Fox News had
coverage of him on the red carpet, and he was

(10:33):
walking that carpet, held a full dawn press conference for
the most part as he walked, But he was in
his element. It just sometimes he has a good energy,
a good vibe. He's kind of upbeat, and he just
likes this celebrity thing and it's a TV show kind
of He was in his He was in his element.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
Although I have to say that we weren't privy to
who was on the red carpet with him. But the
questions that were being asked were right, just they were
perfect for him, right.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
These weren't questions about peace deals.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Hey, they weren't asking about Gaza or about Ukraine. They're like,
what's your favorite music? What goes into making a good song?
I guess it was thematically appropriate given what he was
doing and where he was going. But Sylvester Stallone, Michael
Crawford of Phantom of the Opera Fame, George Strait, Gloria
Gaynor Kiss all were honored. And this is the first

(11:21):
time Trump even attended, right, He never attended this during
his first term, essentially boycott it until he was the host.
And you know what, it will be very fascinating. This
all airs on CBS on December twenty third, so we
will see the President take on hosting duties for the
Kennedy Center Awards in the coming.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
I believe those ratings are going to be huge, the
biggest ever.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
We'll hear all about them, I'm sure the following day.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
All Right, next up on the run here and also
got a President Trump related in. The National Park Service
is making another change to its entrance fees and policies.
Now remember this wasn't long ago. A couple of months back,
we were talking about how they were changing their policies
to where if you're not a US citizen. Yeah, international
travelers visiting our parks, we're going to be paying up
to one hundred dollars more for their tickets. So they

(12:10):
were changing some.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Things, correct, But now here's another update. Oh god, Emma,
I'm sorry, I'm laughing because this is really it's not funny,
but it's it's on brand. MLK Day and June teenth
will no longer be free days. Beforehand, those were the
days among several where visitors don't have to pay for admission.
So now on MLK Day and juneteenth you're going to

(12:33):
have to pay.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Yes, and several other holidays that they do acknowledge as
free days, and which is cool, but they took out
MLK Day and June teenth, and what has gone onto
the list now of free days is June fourteenth, which
happens to be President Trump's birthday, so it's.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Not June thirteenth. It's June fourteenth.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Yes, his birthday is now on the list of free days.
Look like you said, this is on brand with dumping
anything related to diversity DEI or whatever. And they actually
are no longer honoring those days, those holidays where people
go to these parks. Actually, people pointed out MLK Day

(13:20):
is not just a day off. It's been for years
promoted as a day on a day of service and
people actually use those days to go to parks to
clean up, and so those are no longer free days.
But you can get in on June fourteenth, the President's birthday,
which they also point out as well.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Is Flag Day just a coincidence.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
I'm sure Flag Day, all right. Those changes take effects
on January one. Also on the run here, the college
football playoff is set, and per usual, somebody's pissed off
this year. It's Notre Dame's term. They are the first
team left out. Your top seeds are Indiana, Ohio State, Georgia,
and Texas Tech. They'll get first round byes. Now, this
is the second year of this expanded twelve team playoff ropes.

(13:57):
There were, you know, the smaller playoffs before fourteen six
teams and somebody was always upset. Whoever got left out
got upset. So he expanded to twelve. We thought we'd
solve some of these problems.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Yeah, but there's always going to be somebody to be
so upset. Yes, and Notre Dame had an impressive resume
ten and two. They were ranked eleventh. So they say
that they feel like they got punched in the stomach.
And they were offered a bowl game, the Pop Tarts
Bowl in Orlando, and they refused.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Well, I mean, what do you do there? We were
on the verge of possibly competing for a national championship,
and now you want me to go to Orlando and
get myself hyped up for the Pop Tarts Bowl. No
offense to that bowl or that city is just what
these kids had in their mind to present that to them.
They really really are disappointed with what happened.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Yeah, what the athletic director said really sums it up.
He said there was no explanation that could possibly be
given to explain the outcome. One thing is for sure,
any rankings or show prior to this last one is
an absolute joke and a waste of time. Why put
these young students athletes through these false emotions? Just to
pull the rug out from underneath them, having not played

(15:05):
a game in two weeks, and then a group of
people in a room shatter their dreams without explanation.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Yes, they're always going to be a debate, but unfortunate
for them, but it's set. Congrats to Georgia who had
a good weekend. Also, people upset Alabama got in after
getting drawn by Georgia. They got three losses and they
made it in, So that's another part of the debate
as well. Next up on the run here, those Waymos
self driving taxis have not been obeying traffic laws because

(15:30):
they've been driving around school buses. The company is planning
a recall to address numerous reports of the cars ignoring
warnings and passing stopped school buses roads. We all know
that is a major, major no.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
No scary and I don't know what these weimo. I'm
guessing that if something comes in front of them, they
automatically stop. But I'm guessing, like I wouldn't want my
child to test it out to see what happens. Is
they're crossing the street and it's going around to school bus.
The buses had red lights flashing, the stop arm was
deployed and still it went around. There are nineteen incidents

(16:06):
reported in the Austin school district alone. But here's you
know everyone parents just feel at ease because, according to Waimo,
they think they've identified the fix.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
They think they think by hope, I mean they need
to get this work out, Garrett, God forbid, can you
have met this company's gonna go away?

Speaker 2 (16:25):
If absolutely yes?

Speaker 1 (16:26):
And they know God for bid yes, and they know
that we'll stay with us, folks on this Monday morning
run when we come back. Sequels really had a good
weekend at the box office. Also, the pop star and
the politician make it official, but we already knew they
were dating. And maybe it's time to get out there
and try to have a merry Christmas. And it'll only
cost you two bucks stick hear, continuing on the run here.

(16:57):
Now the box office hasn't had a stay year. Actually
the fast past couple of months have been really down.
But you know, had a good got some pick me
up with Wicket of course, had good thanksgivings Utopia, so
things are looking good. And now they had another great
weekend with another sequel, Five Nights at Freddy's two. It
exceeded all expectations had made sixty three million dollars in

(17:21):
the US.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
That's remarkable, and then another forty six million internationally, bringing
it to one hundred and nine million this weekend. I
have to say we watched the first one. We were excited.
It wasn't our cup of tea. But I get the
genre's fun. It's it's horror, fun, silly, campy.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
The PG thirteen. I believe G thirteen.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
So yes, I think it's been interesting to watch horror
movies that take on a PG thirteen genre. Like you
bring in these younger kids who want to get into
the horror film and this is setting and they get
in and have fun.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
And this is another one's based on a video game.
This was a very popular video game. And there you go.
I'll saw this weekend's Utopia two cause it's tear almost
up to a billion dollars in its first two weeks,
up to nine hundred and eighteen million in Wicked for
Good keeps doing its thing and packing up. No, I
think we said Golden Goals isn't wouldn't Wicked be? Absolutely okay?

(18:13):
So it's in that mix, yes, okay, how all I
know Wicked and whatever? Timothy Shallamey is doing is probably
we'll have.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
A list of movies that we are probably going to
have to add because we pretty much just go watch
horror movies. So when you start to see the Oscar Nods,
then we start watching we start branching out to other genres.
So we'll get a list of going so we can
watch some stuff during Christmas. Next up on the Run,
we got Katie Perry and Justin Trudeau. Did you hear
they are officially dating. We've been talking about this since

(18:43):
the summer, but no, they made it Instagram official. It
is a choice. And it was a very cute photo
that Katy Perry posted and then a little video of
them eating sushi. She's touring in Tokyo. He is along
there with her at least for this little bit of
her tour, and they look adorable together.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
That's cool. They for whatever reason makes sense to me,
But yeah, saw this one going. When was that picture
of the dinner? It was in June?

Speaker 2 (19:11):
Or it was June or July, I mean it was
it's been a while, it has been, yeah, it was.
It was shortly after she left or her I guess
it's a relationship with Orlando Bloom was over or we
found out it was over because they were only engaged.
They never got married. And then yeah, pretty shortly thereafter
she started being seen with Justin on in the restaurant

(19:33):
on a yacht.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
They were engaged how long and they didn't get made.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
I don't know, years and years and years. They were
together for a long time, like I believed nine or
ten years.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
It's not healthy, though, make her wait that long saying.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
Right, there's a reason why, but probably made things a
lot easier in the end.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Okay, And I got right, folks. Finally here on the run.
We're also once again tiptoeing our way up to a
billion dollar jackpot power Ball up to eight hundred and
seventy five million. Nobody won on Saturday, so now tonight's drawing.
You could get that eight hundred and seventy five million,
four hundred and six million if you take me cash
option with This is the seventh largest and powerball history

(20:09):
at least. It is barely above thirty two degrees here
in New York today, and we are by the water.
Are we really gonna walk over there and get tickets?

Speaker 2 (20:17):
Are we going to brave the polar vortex?

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Part on?

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Possibly I might get a little store crazy staying in
the apartment all day. However, when I look outside, it
doesn't look too inviting. We can hear the wind in
our apartment, Like that's what it's like, all.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Right, folks. Well, before we let you go about your
day and we stop making wind noises, something we like
for you to take with you. It is our quote
of the day Robes. The quote is criticism is something
you can easily avoid by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Nothing right, so you're always going to get criticized, will
repair thyself.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
But we think we can play it safe.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
That's sure.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
I don't want anybody talking bad about me, so I
don't want to take on that challenge. I don't want
to speak up for so many reasons. We avoid things
because we don't want criticism or glowback. And that's fine
if you want to go about that way.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
But yeah, it reminds me of another quote. If you
don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything or fall
for everything. But it's true. It's it's important to be
who you are and recognize that you're never gonna please everybody,
and that I think if you just go into it
with that thought knowing, hey, not everybody's gonna like me.

(21:34):
That does help.

Speaker 1 (21:36):
Well, folk, take that with you today. Criticism something you
can easily avoid by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.
And with that, folks, we always appreciate you going along
for a run with us. I'm TJ.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Holmes and I made Robock. I'm sorry, I was having
a sip of water, and I'm Mami Robock. We hope
you have a wonderful day today. We'll talk to you soon.
