Speaker 1 (00:01):
I'm at the point, Julie, honestly, where if I do
not solo travel, it's like being emotionally constipated.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
I'm Julie Binetro. I've traveled by myself for fifteen years
and it never looks like it does in the movies.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Movies like Under the Tuscan Sun.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
It's like woman in.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Her forties traveling, being powerful, saying yes to life, being
in charge.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
She's wearing linen, she's eating, she's praying, she's your due.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Lingo is not going to come back to you when
a man is inside of you?

Speaker 4 (00:33):
Oh no?

Speaker 3 (00:34):
And I'm like, you're like.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
On Solita, we're sharing the real stories of solo travel,
the risky, the beautiful, the messy moments where the world
is not your oyster.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
There is this stereotype of like, why is that woman
by herself? Like is she okay? What happened?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
In Spanish solita is what we call a female alone.
It's spoken softly with pity, as if there's something wrong
with her. But what if we reclaim solita? What if
our solitude is actually a tool of possibility.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Every time I tried to be alone, I kept meeting
people and they were like, you smiled at us. Not
a lot of people smile around here.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
I've found that when you travel alone, you're more receptive
to the world as it is and not the lies
you're told about it. And it might be the first
time in your life where you say yes without having
to ask anyone else first. I can wait four hours
for the next bus, or this random dude is offering
me a ride on his motorcycle, I chose up. Sh

(01:41):
be it can be a time where you push your limits,
change your mind, or wake up to a new version
of yourself. I'm training for a twenty thousand kilometer run
across the length of Asia and Europe.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
In Colombia, there is no one image of a Colombian
that really gave me permission to begin to start saying
proudly I am a Columbian immigrant.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
I've gone to places like my Korea. I've spent time
in Libya, and I can't really fathom them by watching
the news, and I just want to know how the
people live.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
So, whether you're a solo travel veteran or you're too
nervous to book your first trip, I hope this podcast
gets you a little closer to the plunge A.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Few bad things have happened, but like a thousand amazing
things have happened. If you jump, the net will appear.
What kind of net and what's within the net with you?
You won't know.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
