was last night. Unfortunately I did not watch. It had
a men's league basketball game, and the interview that you're
about to hear was recorded before the game before the
home run derby folks. This is a spectacular guest. Never

had her on the podcast before, She says, this is
the first podcast she's ever done so. In twenty twenty four,
she was at an England euro game and after the
England win, she came out all excited with the dozens
of fans pouring out of the stadium, and she gave
a thirty second interview and her life changed. In that interview,

she went viral. It's got like eighty million views. She's
a huge England supporter. She has totally blown up around
the globe and she's here in America following England around
during the World Cup and doing a lot of media.
It just so happens. I won't give you all the
boring details, but I know somebody who knows her agent
and I hit him up. I was like, hey, is
she available? And he's like okay. I was like, wow again,

this girl is a big time rising star in the
media industry and you are gonna love this. Jolie Sharp,
enjoy it. England supporter.

she claims this is the first time she's ever done
a podcast. It's been a guest on a Pike podcast.
Everybody has a podcast, Yes, Jolie Sharp. If you're following
on social media, you know her for sure. She blew
up two years ago and it's been a rocket ship

to the top ever since. She's in America supporting England
for the World Cup. Julie, how are you.

I'm good? Thank you so much for having me.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
I'm currently in my hotel room in Philadelphia. So if
it's a bit messy, I promise it's not usually this bad.
But lots of traveling, lots of different states, I'm loving
every second of it.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yeah, so you're very young obviously, what he twenty two
or something like that.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
No, I'm about to turn twenty five.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Twenty five, Okay, so you're twenty five. Is this your
first time in America?
Speaker 3 (02:33):
It's not.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
No, I've been lucky enough to have been a few
times with my family and growing up.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
I love the States.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
I feel like there's so much to love with it,
and there's so much that is offered, and everywhere you
go is a little bit different and has different pros
and different cons like everywhere. The way I've experienced it
over the last five weeks has been different to anything.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
About it certainly. So what has it been like during
the World Cup? Which is different than just visiting with
your family?
Speaker 4 (03:03):
I guess the amount of travel that I'm doing, you know,
sometimes I'm in a state for forty eight hours mac
sometimes twenty four hours, and a lot of the time,
you know people, For example, we were filming in la and.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Everyone was like, how is that l A.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
I was like, if I'm totally honest, I went from
the airport to the hotel, to the shoot location, back
to the hotel, back to the airport. But it was great.
It just feels like there's a different air about at
the moment.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
And I think from what.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
I've spoken about to my friends back at home in
the UK, and you know, everyone really worldwide, there's this.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Bars about the World Cup, and.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Obviously you feel it more because we're here in the US,
but it just there's this positive I don't know if
I'm the only one feeling it, but it's really nice
air around.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
At the minute. You're definitely not the only one. And
it looks like you go into the games with your family.
That is pretty cool that you let them follow you
tag along, right, I mean, and you're supporting England, right.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
I think they would kill me if I said I
let them tag along.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
You know, my whole life.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Yes, we've done it together and I'm so the biggest
part of the job is being able to certain things
where I can take my family. My parents came to
Egypt with me for a big fight that I was
doing with his own I was with interviewing David Beckham
on Tuesday, and they came to that with me and Miami.
We're obviously now going to Atlanta together. So it's so
(04:30):
special having them out here. And I did the group stages.
My brother was out here and then my parents flew
out from the quarters, and now we're all going to
be together for the semi and the final, which we
will be in. So that has just topped everything off.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
I have no homesickness, right obviously not now. Now, before
we get to how you went viral and became like
a global superstar, I just want to touch on your background.
You know, I've read a lot about you. There's a
couple of articles out there. You grew up like an
F one soccer boxing fan. Were you playing sports at
all or just following or your parents big athletes or
anything like that.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Parents certainly not big athletes, know, But I grew up
in a football and car mad house, you know, I had.
I have two older brothers, and it was kind of
either like football and cars or don't talk to us.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
That is how I grew up.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
So you had me playing with barbies that would kick
footballs and I always.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Had I kind of had no.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Choice but to have an interest in it, and that's
really paid off. So thank you brothers, because it meant
that from such an early age I was involved in it.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
I mean, I have no girl cousins.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
I'm literally the only girl in my family, So you
grew up differently to if you were to have sisters
or you know, my friends that grew up with lots
of girl cousins or have all works. And it's been
amazing because having gone from being.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
A fan to still being a fan, but it now.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Being my job, I think that it's literally everyone's dream.
And yeah, I never take that for granted. I know,
even when I'm exhausted from traveling or on two hours sleep,
I am, you know, to be totally trans bar and
being paid to live my dream.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
And what more could you want?

you know, living out your dream. So the reason you're here,
I guess at the Euros in twenty four you just
were doing an interview on the street. You want to
just set it up and tell everybody. I'm sure many
of the soccer fans know you because you've got, you know,
a quarter of a million followers on ig and you're
kind of a big deal on TikTok, but just set
it up like the night the game, all that fun stuff.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Yeah, so it's actually a funny backstory.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
And again I've never really spoken about this online, but
I had a marketing agency at the time.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
I've been media trained.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
And done a lot presenting, but it took a big
backseat because I had a team of fifteen that I
was looking after on our own clients. But just before
I went out to the Euros, I said to Georgina,
who worked with me and still to this day, does
do you know what, let me just get my accounts
to ten thousand followers. All my accounts are private because
I just wanted to do a few more presenting.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Bits here and there.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
And I you know, when I was getting rejected or
told no from a brand, they would just be like,
you're great, but you've got no following. And you know
now we're looking for people with even ten thousand followers.
I thought, you know what, we're going out for the semis,
I'm going to take my mic. So in the day,
my mum was my camera woman and we filmed with
England fans didn't think anything of it, put the mics

away and after the game we were leaving and we
were then, you know, continuing our drive through Germany later on,
and my brother said to me, we please don't stop
for any interviews, because as a presenter, I know what
it's like when you're desperately trying to get interviews and no.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
One is stopping. I've done it before.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
I've been on streets for hours in the rain, ways
like have a ruled myself, I'll stop. But they were like, please,
you know, we've got such on drive tomorrow. We're all
on such a high. So we actually came out of
the stadium and dodged all the massive TV outlets.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Like on purpose.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
And as we take this side route, I see a
green mic muff and he looks at me and he's
like one minute and my family just slightly ahead, and
I was like god, then I literally have thirty seconds
and we.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Did this interview.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
And it's wild when you actually know the backstory. Because
I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.
But you know, I really also agree and believe in
you miss one hundred percent of the shots that you
don't take, and that was a prime example of it.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
And then that was it.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
That video, I you know, finish it as as always,
walked away. Didn't know where it was. I mean, it
had a Daily Mail spot on branding on the mic,
but I was like, okay, maybe I've got on their TikTok.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
I don't know. And I got back to.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
The hotel room about an hour and a half two
hours later, and I get from a friend of a
friend of a friend saying, Hey, I think you should
see this with a Twitter slash x link. And I
didn't even have Twitter at the time. I don't know
if you guys are familiar with Craig David. You know
in the UK he's an iconic artist. But my agency
at the time managed his social media. So I clicked
(09:19):
through his Twitter because that was the only Twitter I
had logged in on my phone through his account, and
I see the video and in like ten minutes it
was on a couter of a million views or something wild,
and everyone's like, who is this?
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Who is this? Who is this? Who is this?
Speaker 4 (09:32):
And from that moment onwards, my family will all asleep.
At this point, I am trying to get all of anyone.
It's like two in the morning and my Instagram someone
had screenshotted at my Instagram that I just made public
before I went out, and I was going up and
up and up and up. I was like, what's happening and.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
The rest is history.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Okay, so let's back up a little. I'm not that
familiar with like walking out of a stadium and there
are microphones there, like, hey, talk to us. First of all,
did the guy know you who was asking you for
the interview?
Speaker 3 (10:03):
No?
Speaker 4 (10:03):
No, no, no, honestly, no idea who he was. He actually
found my Instagram and sent me a message afterwards, like
I'm so sorry for everything that's coming your way, because
I think you probably thought, like you know, of course
football fans, you can imagine what some of the comments
were like.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
And I was like, no, no, you're all good.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
The craziest thing to me is before we went out
to the Euros, me and Georgina, how I mentioned before,
we reached out to every major broadcast outlet that was
working on the Euros, everyone from radio to TV to
Brown sponsors, saying, hey, Jodie's going to be out there,
no need, like she'll do anything for free, she's a
(10:40):
trade presenter, reaching out to everyone.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Not one single reply, Oh my goodness.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
And then this happens and the reply started trickling in.
They were like, oh, could we grab this, can we
do this?
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Can we do that?
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Did you reject them? After that?
Speaker 4 (10:54):
You know, it feels like such a lifetime ago, but
it was then navigating waking up, and I remember just
twenty four hours later being asked for my first photo
and being so confused.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
I'd like, double took.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
And it's a hard thing to explain to people, for
you know, people to be able to relate to, because.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
It happens to so few people what happened to.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
Me, But literally, in a step of a finger, my
life was completely different. And I think that there were
two avenues I could have gone down there.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Why I just turn everything private? It all blows over
these things, you.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Know, you see it with people that go on reality
TV or that have viral moments like this. They can
turn them into a career, or they can turn it
into a you know, let's forget about this, and maybe
the odd person will say, why I knew that girl?
Speaker 3 (11:43):
But I chose to run with it because it was.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
A once in a lifetime opportunity that had, you know,
been put in front of me.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
And I don't rememberrat it ever, but I.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Got a f like Julie, A lot of these people
who want to go viral, like you know, to gain
follow and easily get jobs. It's not organic. It's like crafted.
They're trying to make it happen. This yours was organic.
And by the way, you don't have to answer, but like,
had you guys been partying pretty hard at the game,
because it didn't seem like, you know, it was some
like drunk interview.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
No, like I mean, I'm not a big drinker anyway,
but we'd The funniest thing is if I thought for
a second I was gonna be seen by millions and
millions and millions probably you know, at this point all
the videos together probably done over a billion views, I
would have, you know, had my hair done, put.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Some makeup on, some lilip glass.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
It had been touring with rain the entire day, I
had no makeup on, my face, had all washed off.
I hadn't even redone my lip gloss. And there it happened.
And I think, you know, my advice to anyone that's
trying to go viral, there's you can't you know, I
sometimes get comments like you know, industry, industry, plant or whatever,
(12:57):
so you can't you couldn't fake.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
It wasn't like it was my own video.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
I was the one doing the interview and or I
did something crazy that made it go viral. You know,
it was just pure raw emotion of me answering from
the game. There was nothing to it. So I watched
the video and I'm like, uh, what about this video is?
You know the views that it's got. You know I
(13:20):
put in hours and hours and hours and hours and
hours into my edits, and you know my team do
as well, and they don't get a percentage of.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
The views that got.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
That was literally text on screen, uploaded and it worked.
And you know I said it earlier and I lived
by everything happens for a reason, and you know it
happened that day.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
So let me ask that what's the next step. This
blows up? You're getting interview requests. I'm sure you're getting
job offers, marriage proposal. Everything was coming at you. What
do you do? How do you like step back and
not let this swallow you up and really rattle you?
Speaker 4 (13:52):
I think you know, fast and foremost the final was
ahead of us, and those memories with my family and
doing that was so important, and it was they're navigating
you know, for me, this is my dream. Being a
presenter in sport has always been my dream. It's my passion,
it's my love, It's everything that I've ever wanted. And
(14:15):
it was so important. And I say this people when
they ask for my advice. You know, the things you
say no to are just as, if not more important
than the things you say yes to. And it was
never about earning quick money, you know, transparently. I could
have taken you know, a load of brand deals straight
off of the back of it, made a lot of
money really quickly, and then that be it. But I chose,
you know, chose the opposite to really align myself with
(14:37):
brands that I love.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
I'm not an.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Influencer, you know, fair place influencers, That's that's not who
I am. You know, I've kind of framed myself as
a presenter and a digital creator, and I.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Love the mix that I have.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Of both because I got, you know, the best of
both worlds. But it was then working out right, I
know my strengths and I think you then have to
build the team around you that are better at the
things that you can't do.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
So it was meeting with management.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
I mean, I got back in the UK, and I
met with like five different agencies every day for a
week with my mom, and it was just going with
who I thought would represent me the best and my
best interests at her and understood. You know, it wasn't
a money making machine. You know, I had to kiss
a few frogs to find my prints.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
But I don't know. I'm soon right, so happy with
her its down.

All right, before we get to England, just I got
to ask Jolie, you sound real wise like you've been
you know, you're like a professional. But so, what happened
after high school? Did you instantly start the marketing business
or what was what was the move for you? There?
Speaker 4 (15:53):
No, so I first went in teams okay, college as
you guys will call it.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
But there was a mixture of two things.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
I mean, if I was going to give like a
really media trade answer, I would say COVID happened, so
I dropped out. But the truth of the matter is
I was dropping out anyway. How university works for most
unis in the UK is your very limited contact hours
with your professor as such a week, so anywhere between
seven and ten hours a week, and it's you know,
(16:19):
a big party, and that for some is amazed, amazing,
but for me, I like to be busy every second
of every day doing something, you know, feeling super productive,
and it wasn't getting the best out of me. I
knew I wanted to work, so I dropped out as
COVID happened, you know, it was a blur of a
few years. I worked for a breast cancer charity. I
(16:41):
tried to help out throughout COVID, and then I learned
in my first job as a content creator for a
big fragrance company in the UK, and that's basically everything
trickled down from there.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Nice, I have to say, have you had any like
sketchy moments where you've been like paparazzied here in America
or does that happen in London already? If you go
out with family, friends, date, whatever, are people like taking
your picture? And how does that? Does that feel weird?
And is that like you're new normal? I don't know,
you know a bit of both.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Sometimes I've definitely I'm more aware of it now. And
you know everyone's the same when they see someone out
but they know what they follow, or you know, they're like, oh,
who are they? You're trying and take a sneaky photo.
And I feel like I'm quite good at spotting who's
taking a sneaky photo for me. I love it, like
I'm nothing without my followers. And you know, as long
(17:33):
as everyone is polite, I haven't. I won't hold back.
So if someone comes and throws a phone in my
face and doesn't say anything, come like one minute, Hi,
I'm Jolie.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Nice to meet you. Would you like a photo?
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Yau?
Speaker 3 (17:44):
It's a crazy world otherwise.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
But you know, especially England fans, this whole tournament has
been a crazy experience, you know, being in a pub
before a game with my brother and literally being stopped
every five minutes if not more, probably take thousands and
thousands of photos you At some points there's been cues
and it's wild. But I'm so unbelievably grateful for it, because,
(18:09):
as I said, you know, without that, you don't grow,
you don't get put on platforms, you don't get to
bedwig brands. So you know, you can never say you
can never say it annoys you. I'm not anywhere near
a level to be like it annoys me, and it
doesn't interfere in my life.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
That's coming. It sounds like, all right, let's go to
England real quick. So I read one place that your
favorite players Cole Palmer. Is that accurate?
Speaker 4 (18:31):
He Look, I'm a Chelsea fan, okay, Palmer's been an
unbelievable player for us since joining. My brother actually recently
got a dog and named him Cole, so we we're
being Chelsea fans. I think, Look, he obviously didn't make
the squad. It's no secret that he didn't have a
great season. Would I have liked to see him in
(18:51):
the team, Yes, because he's very good at taking players
on and he never would have started even if he
was in the squad. But he's an unbelievable impact stup.
I mean the Euro's Final, we use that as an example.
I think he was subbed on in the seventieth minute,
he scored in the seventy third minute.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
And he's brilliant like that.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
But he didn't have a good season, and you know
Tukle picked off of the back of that, and he's
the manager. He will have more insights, no more than
any of us. And I know people don't like to
admit that, but you got to trust the manager.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Yeah, so that's the question. Now you your interview happened
during the Southgate era, right, and then Tuckle comes and
leaves off. Palmer Phone and a couple other guys were
left off, and it was like, what the hell's going
on here? Just be honest. What was your reaction when
you saw the initial roster?
Speaker 4 (19:43):
Look, I love he won Chelsea the Champions League final
and I think that he is excellent.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
Look he missed out star names.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Yes, you've got the likes of Trent White, the squad,
Harry Maguire, et cetera. I had my thoughts, but right now,
as you're asking me, you have to look where we are.
You know, look at the team we have. Look where
the team that we have has got us. We're in
the semi final, We're one of four teams left in
the competition and it's the team that's going to win
the World Cups. So I back him and I trust him.
(20:14):
He's made good subs. Are there players that I would
have picked? Yes, but that's that, you know, I'm sure
every single we're fortunate We're in a position where we
can think what we want and we don't have an
entire country coming at us saying you, whatever he did.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Was wrong to some one out there.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
But right now we have to think that whatever he
has done is right because we're still in this competition.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
We're still fighting and we're going to win it.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
So at the Miami game, you were there, and I
was stunned when they pulled off decl and Rice, and
some of the stats showed that there was like literally
no offense in the second half once Rice came off.
And what was your reaction when right like in the
stadium you're with all your English friends, what was the reaction?
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Rice has played so many minutes this seaon, they're.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Not just throughout the World Cup. But yeah, and look,
we've watching the games. I can't tell you on my
hort right is it's it's through the roof and seeing
how well we played with ten men at the Azteca.
You know, it was a performance that will.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Forever go down in history.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
It was mentally and physically exhausting for our players.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
You saw Bellingham collapse on the.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
Pitch, you know, literally fall to the floor when the
full time whistle was blown, so I understood why I
took Rice off.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
We didn't. No one's going to look back at.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
That game and think, wow, England played really well. I mean,
Alan Shearer obviously a football legend. He posted on Instagram
a photo saying if you don't play well, then find
a way to win. And they did that or we
did that or something, and it's true we didn't play it.
You can't look at that and think that is what
football should be. I think the guard was brilliant for Norway.
(21:59):
I think you know, normally looked exhausted in the last
half an hour. But it wasn't a good game of football.
But we won, and you can't have every game is
a good game.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
I guess we can. Last question, what do you expect
against Argentina besides winning? Because Argentina has not looked particularly sharp.
They basically have Messi in a bunch of guys, whereas
I think England's got a better roster. But I'm just
curious your thoughts on the on, like how the matchup
goes for England.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
Well, Messi and a bunch of guys don't leave our
and you know.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
What I mean, You know what I mean, I know
what you mean, but they haven't been Julie, they have
not been great. The number you're the weakest team of
the final four.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
Yeah, I think they've had an easy run. Obviously, they
were losing tens in Egypt.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
They've had a few favors that some would a few
decisions that some would say have really gone in that favor.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
I think, how is it going to go?
Speaker 4 (22:55):
I think the atmosphere, it is going to be an
atmosphere that I've never experienced in my lifetime. I think
it is gonna be absolute chaos in the best way possible.
I think that both teams both put you know, star
players from Kane to Messi to Bellingham, whoever it might be.
It is going to feel the pressure pressure in a
different way to the France Spain game, because even if

you look at the ticket prices, the demand for the
Argentine in England game is through the roof and there's
nowhere near that for the France Spain game.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
And I think, you know that says a lot as well.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
You've obviously got Messi. Everyone wants to see Messi play
in his you know, final World Cup. I'm absolutely ecstatic
to watch it. But I'm confident I'm always confident. I'll
be nervous, but I think that the odds are in
our favor.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Yep. I think that I'm hoping Reece James is going
to start and he pulls the team again. I would
say this.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
I a Chelsea fan, but I think we have got
the better players and.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
They're reigning champions.
Speaker 4 (24:00):

I have two answers for this. I think if you

what's in front of you. You can't be flexible. You know,
so much fun of this job that I live in,
this life that I live is going with the flow
and not knowing where I'm going to be next.

The truth and the most transparent answer is if I'm
doing what I'm doing now on the biggest in five years,
in it's six months, in ten years, I will be

a men's league basketball game, and the interview that you're
about to hear was recorded before the game before the
home run derby folks. This is a spectacular guest. Never

had her on the podcast before, She says, this is
the first podcast she's ever done so. In twenty twenty four,
she was at an England euro game and after the
England win, she came out all excited with the dozens
of fans pouring out of the stadium, and she gave
a thirty second interview and her life changed. In that interview,

she went viral. It's got like eighty million views. She's
a huge England supporter. She has totally blown up around
the globe and she's here in America following England around
during the World Cup and doing a lot of media.
It just so happens. I won't give you all the
boring details, but I know somebody who knows her agent
and I hit him up. I was like, hey, is
she available? And he's like okay. I was like, wow again,

this girl is a big time rising star in the
media industry and you are gonna love this. Jolie Sharp,

she claims this is the first time she's ever done
a podcast. It's been a guest on a Pike podcast.

up two years ago and it's been a rocket ship

to the top ever since. She's in America supporting England
for the World Cup. Julie, how are you.

I'm currently in my hotel room in Philadelphia. So if
it's a bit messy, I promise it's not usually this bad.
But lots of traveling, lots of different states, I'm loving
every second of it.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yeah, so you're very young obviously, what he twenty two
or something like that.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
No, I'm about to turn twenty five.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Twenty five, Okay, so you're twenty five. Is this your
first time in America?
Speaker 3 (02:33):
It's not.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
No, I've been lucky enough to have been a few
times with my family and growing up.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
I love the States.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
I feel like there's so much to love with it,
and there's so much that is offered, and everywhere you
go is a little bit different and has different pros
and different cons like everywhere. The way I've experienced it
over the last five weeks has been different to anything.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
About it certainly. So what has it been like during
the World Cup? Which is different than just visiting with
your family?
Speaker 4 (03:03):
I guess the amount of travel that I'm doing, you know,
sometimes I'm in a state for forty eight hours mac
sometimes twenty four hours, and a lot of the time,
you know people, For example, we were filming in la and.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Everyone was like, how is that l A.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
I was like, if I'm totally honest, I went from
the airport to the hotel, to the shoot location, back
to the hotel, back to the airport. But it was great.
It just feels like there's a different air about at
the moment.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
And I think from what.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
I've spoken about to my friends back at home in
the UK, and you know, everyone really worldwide, there's this.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Bars about the World Cup, and.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Obviously you feel it more because we're here in the US,
but it just there's this positive I don't know if
I'm the only one feeling it, but it's really nice
air around.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
At the minute. You're definitely not the only one. And
it looks like you go into the games with your family.
That is pretty cool that you let them follow you
tag along, right, I mean, and you're supporting England, right.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
I think they would kill me if I said I
let them tag along.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
You know, my whole life.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Yes, we've done it together and I'm so the biggest
part of the job is being able to certain things
where I can take my family. My parents came to
Egypt with me for a big fight that I was
doing with his own I was with interviewing David Beckham
on Tuesday, and they came to that with me and Miami.
We're obviously now going to Atlanta together. So it's so
(04:30):
special having them out here. And I did the group stages.
My brother was out here and then my parents flew
out from the quarters, and now we're all going to
be together for the semi and the final, which we
will be in. So that has just topped everything off.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
I have no homesickness, right obviously not now. Now, before
we get to how you went viral and became like
a global superstar, I just want to touch on your background.
You know, I've read a lot about you. There's a
couple of articles out there. You grew up like an
F one soccer boxing fan. Were you playing sports at
all or just following or your parents big athletes or
anything like that.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Parents certainly not big athletes, know, But I grew up
in a football and car mad house, you know, I had.
I have two older brothers, and it was kind of
either like football and cars or don't talk to us.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
That is how I grew up.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
So you had me playing with barbies that would kick
footballs and I always.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Had I kind of had no.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Choice but to have an interest in it, and that's
really paid off. So thank you brothers, because it meant
that from such an early age I was involved in it.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
I mean, I have no girl cousins.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
I'm literally the only girl in my family, So you
grew up differently to if you were to have sisters
or you know, my friends that grew up with lots
of girl cousins or have all works. And it's been
amazing because having gone from being.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
A fan to still being a fan, but it now.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Being my job, I think that it's literally everyone's dream.
And yeah, I never take that for granted. I know,
even when I'm exhausted from traveling or on two hours sleep,
I am, you know, to be totally trans bar and
being paid to live my dream.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
And what more could you want?

I guess at the Euros in twenty four you just
were doing an interview on the street. You want to
just set it up and tell everybody. I'm sure many
of the soccer fans know you because you've got, you know,
a quarter of a million followers on ig and you're
kind of a big deal on TikTok, but just set
it up like the night the game, all that fun stuff.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Yeah, so it's actually a funny backstory.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
And again I've never really spoken about this online, but
I had a marketing agency at the time.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
I've been media trained.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
And done a lot presenting, but it took a big
backseat because I had a team of fifteen that I
was looking after on our own clients. But just before
I went out to the Euros, I said to Georgina,
who worked with me and still to this day, does
do you know what, let me just get my accounts
to ten thousand followers. All my accounts are private because
I just wanted to do a few more presenting.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Bits here and there.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
And I you know, when I was getting rejected or
told no from a brand, they would just be like,
you're great, but you've got no following. And you know
now we're looking for people with even ten thousand followers.
I thought, you know what, we're going out for the semis,
I'm going to take my mic. So in the day,
my mum was my camera woman and we filmed with
England fans didn't think anything of it, put the mics
(07:40):
away and after the game we were leaving and we
were then, you know, continuing our drive through Germany later on,
and my brother said to me, we please don't stop
for any interviews, because as a presenter, I know what
it's like when you're desperately trying to get interviews and no.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
One is stopping. I've done it before.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
I've been on streets for hours in the rain, ways
like have a ruled myself, I'll stop. But they were like, please,
you know, we've got such on drive tomorrow. We're all
on such a high. So we actually came out of
the stadium and dodged all the massive TV outlets.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Like on purpose.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
And as we take this side route, I see a
green mic muff and he looks at me and he's
like one minute and my family just slightly ahead, and
I was like god, then I literally have thirty seconds
and we.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Did this interview.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
And it's wild when you actually know the backstory. Because
I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.
But you know, I really also agree and believe in
you miss one hundred percent of the shots that you
don't take, and that was a prime example of it.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
And then that was it.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
That video, I you know, finish it as as always,
walked away. Didn't know where it was. I mean, it
had a Daily Mail spot on branding on the mic,
but I was like, okay, maybe I've got on their TikTok.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
I don't know. And I got back to.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
The hotel room about an hour and a half two
hours later, and I get from a friend of a
friend of a friend saying, Hey, I think you should
see this with a Twitter slash x link. And I
didn't even have Twitter at the time. I don't know
if you guys are familiar with Craig David. You know
in the UK he's an iconic artist. But my agency
at the time managed his social media. So I clicked
(09:19):
through his Twitter because that was the only Twitter I
had logged in on my phone through his account, and
I see the video and in like ten minutes it
was on a couter of a million views or something wild,
and everyone's like, who is this?
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Who is this? Who is this? Who is this?
Speaker 4 (09:32):
And from that moment onwards, my family will all asleep.
At this point, I am trying to get all of anyone.
It's like two in the morning and my Instagram someone
had screenshotted at my Instagram that I just made public
before I went out, and I was going up and
up and up and up. I was like, what's happening and.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
The rest is history.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Okay, so let's back up a little. I'm not that
familiar with like walking out of a stadium and there
are microphones there, like, hey, talk to us. First of all,
did the guy know you who was asking you for
the interview?
Speaker 3 (10:03):
No?
Speaker 4 (10:03):
No, no, no, honestly, no idea who he was. He actually
found my Instagram and sent me a message afterwards, like
I'm so sorry for everything that's coming your way, because
I think you probably thought, like you know, of course
football fans, you can imagine what some of the comments
were like.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
And I was like, no, no, you're all good.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
The craziest thing to me is before we went out
to the Euros, me and Georgina, how I mentioned before,
we reached out to every major broadcast outlet that was
working on the Euros, everyone from radio to TV to
Brown sponsors, saying, hey, Jodie's going to be out there,
no need, like she'll do anything for free, she's a
(10:40):
trade presenter, reaching out to everyone.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Not one single reply, Oh my goodness.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
And then this happens and the reply started trickling in.
They were like, oh, could we grab this, can we
do this?
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Can we do that?
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Did you reject them? After that?
Speaker 4 (10:54):
You know, it feels like such a lifetime ago, but
it was then navigating waking up, and I remember just
twenty four hours later being asked for my first photo
and being so confused.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
I'd like, double took.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
And it's a hard thing to explain to people, for
you know, people to be able to relate to, because.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
It happens to so few people what happened to.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
Me, But literally, in a step of a finger, my
life was completely different. And I think that there were
two avenues I could have gone down there.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Why I just turn everything private? It all blows over
these things, you.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Know, you see it with people that go on reality
TV or that have viral moments like this. They can
turn them into a career, or they can turn it
into a you know, let's forget about this, and maybe
the odd person will say, why I knew that girl?
Speaker 3 (11:43):
But I chose to run with it because it was.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
A once in a lifetime opportunity that had, you know,
been put in front of me.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
And I don't rememberrat it ever, but I.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Got a f like Julie, A lot of these people
who want to go viral, like you know, to gain
follow and easily get jobs. It's not organic. It's like crafted.
They're trying to make it happen. This yours was organic.
And by the way, you don't have to answer, but like,
had you guys been partying pretty hard at the game,
because it didn't seem like, you know, it was some
like drunk interview.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
No, like I mean, I'm not a big drinker anyway,
but we'd The funniest thing is if I thought for
a second I was gonna be seen by millions and
millions and millions probably you know, at this point all
the videos together probably done over a billion views, I
would have, you know, had my hair done, put.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Some makeup on, some lilip glass.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
It had been touring with rain the entire day, I
had no makeup on, my face, had all washed off.
I hadn't even redone my lip gloss. And there it happened.
And I think, you know, my advice to anyone that's
trying to go viral, there's you can't you know, I
sometimes get comments like you know, industry, industry, plant or whatever,
(12:57):
so you can't you couldn't fake.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
It wasn't like it was my own video.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
I was the one doing the interview and or I
did something crazy that made it go viral. You know,
it was just pure raw emotion of me answering from
the game. There was nothing to it. So I watched
the video and I'm like, uh, what about this video is?
You know the views that it's got. You know I
(13:20):
put in hours and hours and hours and hours and
hours into my edits, and you know my team do
as well, and they don't get a percentage of.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
The views that got.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
That was literally text on screen, uploaded and it worked.
And you know I said it earlier and I lived
by everything happens for a reason, and you know it
happened that day.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
So let me ask that what's the next step. This
blows up? You're getting interview requests. I'm sure you're getting
job offers, marriage proposal. Everything was coming at you. What
do you do? How do you like step back and
not let this swallow you up and really rattle you?
Speaker 4 (13:52):
I think you know, fast and foremost the final was
ahead of us, and those memories with my family and
doing that was so important, and it was they're navigating
you know, for me, this is my dream. Being a
presenter in sport has always been my dream. It's my passion,
it's my love, It's everything that I've ever wanted. And
(14:15):
it was so important. And I say this people when
they ask for my advice. You know, the things you
say no to are just as, if not more important
than the things you say yes to. And it was
never about earning quick money, you know, transparently. I could
have taken you know, a load of brand deals straight
off of the back of it, made a lot of
money really quickly, and then that be it. But I chose,
you know, chose the opposite to really align myself with
(14:37):
brands that I love.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
I'm not an.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Influencer, you know, fair place influencers, That's that's not who
I am. You know, I've kind of framed myself as
a presenter and a digital creator, and I.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Love the mix that I have.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Of both because I got, you know, the best of
both worlds. But it was then working out right, I
know my strengths and I think you then have to
build the team around you that are better at the
things that you can't do.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
So it was meeting with management.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
I mean, I got back in the UK, and I
met with like five different agencies every day for a
week with my mom, and it was just going with
who I thought would represent me the best and my
best interests at her and understood. You know, it wasn't
a money making machine. You know, I had to kiss
a few frogs to find my prints.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
But I don't know. I'm soon right, so happy with
her its down.
Speaker 1 (15:28):

All right, before we get to England, just I got
to ask Jolie, you sound real wise like you've been
you know, you're like a professional. But so, what happened
after high school? Did you instantly start the marketing business
or what was what was the move for you? There?
Speaker 4 (15:53):
No, so I first went in teams okay, college as
you guys will call it.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
But there was a mixture of two things.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
I mean, if I was going to give like a
really media trade answer, I would say COVID happened, so
I dropped out. But the truth of the matter is
I was dropping out anyway. How university works for most
unis in the UK is your very limited contact hours
with your professor as such a week, so anywhere between
seven and ten hours a week, and it's you know,
(16:19):
a big party, and that for some is amazed, amazing,
but for me, I like to be busy every second
of every day doing something, you know, feeling super productive,
and it wasn't getting the best out of me. I
knew I wanted to work, so I dropped out as
COVID happened, you know, it was a blur of a
few years. I worked for a breast cancer charity. I
(16:41):
tried to help out throughout COVID, and then I learned
in my first job as a content creator for a
big fragrance company in the UK, and that's basically everything
trickled down from there.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Nice, I have to say, have you had any like
sketchy moments where you've been like paparazzied here in America
or does that happen in London already? If you go
out with family, friends, date, whatever, are people like taking
your picture? And how does that? Does that feel weird?
And is that like you're new normal? I don't know,
you know a bit of both.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Sometimes I've definitely I'm more aware of it now. And
you know everyone's the same when they see someone out
but they know what they follow, or you know, they're like, oh,
who are they? You're trying and take a sneaky photo.
And I feel like I'm quite good at spotting who's
taking a sneaky photo for me. I love it, like
I'm nothing without my followers. And you know, as long
(17:33):
as everyone is polite, I haven't. I won't hold back.
So if someone comes and throws a phone in my
face and doesn't say anything, come like one minute, Hi,
I'm Jolie.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Nice to meet you. Would you like a photo?
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Yau?
Speaker 3 (17:44):
It's a crazy world otherwise.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
But you know, especially England fans, this whole tournament has
been a crazy experience, you know, being in a pub
before a game with my brother and literally being stopped
every five minutes if not more, probably take thousands and
thousands of photos you At some points there's been cues
and it's wild. But I'm so unbelievably grateful for it, because,
(18:09):
as I said, you know, without that, you don't grow,
you don't get put on platforms, you don't get to
bedwig brands. So you know, you can never say you
can never say it annoys you. I'm not anywhere near
a level to be like it annoys me, and it
doesn't interfere in my life.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
That's coming. It sounds like, all right, let's go to
England real quick. So I read one place that your
favorite players Cole Palmer. Is that accurate?
Speaker 4 (18:31):
He Look, I'm a Chelsea fan, okay, Palmer's been an
unbelievable player for us since joining. My brother actually recently
got a dog and named him Cole, so we we're
being Chelsea fans. I think, Look, he obviously didn't make
the squad. It's no secret that he didn't have a
great season. Would I have liked to see him in
(18:51):
the team, Yes, because he's very good at taking players
on and he never would have started even if he
was in the squad. But he's an unbelievable impact stup.
I mean the Euro's Final, we use that as an example.
I think he was subbed on in the seventieth minute,
he scored in the seventy third minute.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
And he's brilliant like that.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
But he didn't have a good season, and you know
Tukle picked off of the back of that, and he's
the manager. He will have more insights, no more than
any of us. And I know people don't like to
admit that, but you got to trust the manager.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Yeah, so that's the question. Now you your interview happened
during the Southgate era, right, and then Tuckle comes and
leaves off. Palmer Phone and a couple other guys were
left off, and it was like, what the hell's going
on here? Just be honest. What was your reaction when
you saw the initial roster?
Speaker 4 (19:43):
Look, I love he won Chelsea the Champions League final
and I think that he is excellent.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
Look he missed out star names.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Yes, you've got the likes of Trent White, the squad,
Harry Maguire, et cetera. I had my thoughts, but right now,
as you're asking me, you have to look where we are.
You know, look at the team we have. Look where
the team that we have has got us. We're in
the semi final, We're one of four teams left in
the competition and it's the team that's going to win
the World Cups. So I back him and I trust him.
(20:14):
He's made good subs. Are there players that I would
have picked? Yes, but that's that, you know, I'm sure
every single we're fortunate We're in a position where we
can think what we want and we don't have an
entire country coming at us saying you, whatever he did.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Was wrong to some one out there.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
But right now we have to think that whatever he
has done is right because we're still in this competition.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
We're still fighting and we're going to win it.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
So at the Miami game, you were there, and I
was stunned when they pulled off decl and Rice, and
some of the stats showed that there was like literally
no offense in the second half once Rice came off.
And what was your reaction when right like in the
stadium you're with all your English friends, what was the reaction?
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Rice has played so many minutes this seaon, they're.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Not just throughout the World Cup. But yeah, and look,
we've watching the games. I can't tell you on my
hort right is it's it's through the roof and seeing
how well we played with ten men at the Azteca.
You know, it was a performance that will.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Forever go down in history.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
It was mentally and physically exhausting for our players.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
You saw Bellingham collapse on the.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
Pitch, you know, literally fall to the floor when the
full time whistle was blown, so I understood why I
took Rice off.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
We didn't. No one's going to look back at.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
That game and think, wow, England played really well. I mean,
Alan Shearer obviously a football legend. He posted on Instagram
a photo saying if you don't play well, then find
a way to win. And they did that or we
did that or something, and it's true we didn't play it.
You can't look at that and think that is what
football should be. I think the guard was brilliant for Norway.
(21:59):
I think you know, normally looked exhausted in the last
half an hour. But it wasn't a good game of football.
But we won, and you can't have every game is
a good game.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
I guess we can. Last question, what do you expect
against Argentina besides winning? Because Argentina has not looked particularly sharp.
They basically have Messi in a bunch of guys, whereas
I think England's got a better roster. But I'm just
curious your thoughts on the on, like how the matchup
goes for England.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
Well, Messi and a bunch of guys don't leave our
and you know.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
What I mean, You know what I mean, I know
what you mean, but they haven't been Julie, they have
not been great. The number you're the weakest team of
the final four.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
Yeah, I think they've had an easy run. Obviously, they
were losing tens in Egypt.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
They've had a few favors that some would a few
decisions that some would say have really gone in that favor.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
I think, how is it going to go?

I think the atmosphere, it is going to be an
atmosphere that I've never experienced in my lifetime. I think
it is gonna be absolute chaos in the best way possible.
I think that both teams both put you know, star
players from Kane to Messi to Bellingham, whoever it might be.
It is going to feel the pressure pressure in a
different way to the France Spain game, because even if

you look at the ticket prices, the demand for the
Argentine in England game is through the roof and there's
nowhere near that for the France Spain game.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
And I think, you know that says a lot as well.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
You've obviously got Messi. Everyone wants to see Messi play
in his you know, final World Cup. I'm absolutely ecstatic
to watch it. But I'm confident I'm always confident. I'll
be nervous, but I think that the odds are in
our favor.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Yep. I think that I'm hoping Reece James is going
to start and he pulls the team again. I would
say this.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
I a Chelsea fan, but I think we have got
the better players and.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
They're reigning champions.

I don't want to say we want it more, but
we're going through sixty years, they are still the champions.

I think that carries a lot as well.

I think Tukele said it in an interview afterwards, you
can't ever question our mentality.

You can bottle up and sell it. And I loved
that because it's true.

And it's true from the fans, to the coaching staff,
to two Call, to the players, to everyone back at home, to.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
Everyone in the US.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
You can't question England's mentality and I think that counts.

For a lot.

Yeah, So Joe Lee's sharp. Where are you so you're
almost twenty five? Where are you in? Where do you
see yourself? Media journalism? I don't know journalism the right word,
but presenter wise, in ten or fifteen years, any do
you have like a game plan or you just say
it's one day at a time.

I have two answers for this. I think if you
have too much of a plan, you'll never focused on
what's in front of you. You can't be flexible. You know,
so much fun of this job that I live in,
this life that I live is going with the flow
and not knowing where I'm going to be next.

Week and what I'm going to be doing.

The truth and the most transparent answer is if I'm
doing what I'm doing now on the biggest in five years,
in it's six months, in ten years, I will be
so happy. And it's just growing and continue to continuing
to grow and experiencing things and getting to experience it
with those that I love and care about, my friends
and my family, and I will be the happiest person
in the world.
