Straight Boyer. Wednesday, June twenty fourth, NBA Draft Night, Ladies
and germs. Very strange night in the draft. I'll talk
about that a little bit. World Cup another amazing day
in the action unless you're an England fan like me

or Harry Kane. Three and one in World Cup bets
two and one posted on ig and then the third
one was like just a lark at the last moment.
The under on the Columbia game, which was crazy zero
zero until like the seventy fifth minute, and then Columbia
scores and then I'm like, all right, well we're not
going to get two more goals for the under two

and a half in the last like fifteen minutes, and
of course Colombia scores twice. Both are ruled off sides.
There's a handball in the box, but they called the
foul before it. It was just like a flurry, felt
like Mike Tyson ish Fortunately ends won nothing. Anyways, it
was a strange NBA draft from this perspective. So usually
there's lots of hype leading up to the NBA Draft

because there's nothing going on in sports. The finals have
been done for usually a couple of weeks, right, and
so everybody's kind of like excited about the draft. But
two days ago, Jannis gets traded and that soaked up
a lot of the oxygen. Nobody's talking about the draft
because Giannis got traded, a top ten player in the league,
maybe top five, okay, and then the World Cup is on,

and it just so happens that two days ago Messi
and Bope are going off. The US team obviously is
a major factor. You've got Harry Kane played yesterday, Christiano
Ronaldo's course too, goals. There was just so much happening
in sports that the draft, which was pretty predictable at
the top, there wasn't a ton of juice. It was
(01:59):
very strange. This is how strange it is. I'm embarrassed
to admit I'm on a text shame with a couple
of buddies and I texted, you know, midway through the
first round, I'm like, man, this is kind of there's
not a lot of energy in this draft. What's going on.
It's a lot of Malika Andrews talking a lot, and
then you know, Bill has had some analysis. But now
(02:19):
Bobby Marks, who I like, he's got great info, He's
just a little vanilla and I'm I'm I'm just like, geez,
where's the juice? I can't Where's stephen A. Smith? Is
he not? Where's all? Like the personality guys. It was
a very straight Newsy, no real laughs, no energy. Frankfischela
came on, you know, obviously he's a friend of the podcast.
He came on with a report on Kareem Lopez, the

kid from the NBL Breakers, who, of course, you know,
I was a minority owner in the team, and he
was like excited and energetic and pumped up. It was like, oh,
there's a shot of juice. And I was like, this
is just such a weird grouping that they had. And
then you know, I'm on social media later and I
see this Richard Jefferson taking a shot at Jay Williams.

I'm like, wait, where was that? It turns out the
draft was on AVC. How duble am I? This is? So?
This is how programmed I am that it's not on
network TV. My first inclination is, oh, there's a draft
on it, it must be on ESPN. And I did
not even once turn to ABC. Now, if the soccer

game was on Fox, I would have seen it, right,
But the soccer game was on FS one, So I've
been the cable land. So I'm just toggling back and
forth on the two TVs ESPN and FS one, and
they're right next to each other in the channel. Guy,
So I don't even look on Fox, So I have
no clue who that coverage, who was leading that coverage. Honestly,
maybe Steven A. Smith was on there. And again I'm
not saying I'm a fan, but he'll say some outlandish,

wacky stuff and it's like, oh, okay, interesting if you
couldn't tell, you know, takes her fun and interesting and
get the party started. I unfortunately don't have any hot
takes at least, not really any spicy ones on the top.
But the draft, it was one according to form, it
was a little boring. Aj Debonsa goes one. I like
(04:06):
to pick for the Wizards, Trey Young, Debonza, Blal Kulabali
just kidding. I like saying his name Anthony Davis, Like
that's a twenty five thirty thirty five win team, right,
I mean maybe twenty five thirty five ish in that range.
They're not gonna be dreadful. Anthony Davis, assuming he could

play fifty games, they're gonna win forty. Now I don't
know what he's gonna play. And you know there's speculation that, hey,
Trey Young just got a big, fat deal. Well, I
want a deal. AD's got one more Yell left on
his deal. He's gonna want new money. Does he deserve it?
Can't say healthy. You know, he goes to Dallas and
plays like what fifteen games need to get him out

of town.

So I don't know.

I like the Wizard's draft. Darren Peterson goes second to
the Jazz. Not again, not a huge shocker. He's almost
a little little bit undervalued given how people perceive him.
Given a stint at Kansas, I think he's gonna be fine.
I think the Jazz are a playoff team. As a
matter of fact, I think the Jazz are probably better
(05:14):
record wise than the Miami Heat. Guys with the honest
I mean again, if you look at the lineup that
they have that they're gonna trot on the floor. We're
talking about George and Peterson in the back court. George
is way underrated. He's very good. It's a big backcourt.
And then Marking and Jaren Jackson and Kessler in the
(05:35):
front court. That is defensive minded, long marketing. He could
shoot the three, Jackson could shoot the three. That's a
that's a pretty darn good lineup. Then you tossed in
Ace Bailey sense a ball coming off the bench. Probably
need a veteran for the locker room. I don't count
market In as like a real veteran. I don't how
many how many playoff wins does he f? You know,
Jaron Jackson, you know had I think a couple runs

in Memphis, but they need like a real veteran to
tie that locker room together. I saw Jamar DeRozan is
going to be bought out by the Kigs, and I
think he's going to have a market you know, a
mid range guy who could give you twelve fifteen a
night off the bench and a veteran in the locker room.

A pros pro. Is he gonna want to go to Utah?
I have no idea. Maybe Dwayne Wade could convince him
to go there, but I think the Jazz are probably
a forty five win team. And then you had Cameron
Boozer going to Memphis, and you know, you feel a
little bit bad for Boozer because goodness gracious, the Grizzlies
just don't have any talent. I mean, they're probably I
would say they're one of the five worst teams in
the league. Boozer can surely begin the turnaround. But I

don't think much of Ja Morant anymore. Cedric Coward is
a good role player, Wells can get some buckets. Boozer
is gonna start. He might be their best player next year. Guys,
I mean Taylor Hendrick, Santi Aldama, Omax, the kid from Marquette,
Zach Edie, if he could stay healthy, Ty Jerome. There
is just not a lot to love here. Some really

good college players, Walter Clinton junior. Boozer is gonna put
up numbers. They're not gonna win a lot of games.
And then you got to hope that Ja Moranch shows
well just long enough that you can ship him somewhere
and get an actually decent return. Yeah. I don't think
Camera Boozer is gonna have a good go next year,
at least from a Grizzlies point of view. From a

personal standpoint, you know, Camera Boozer is gonna be fine.
By the way, side note, if you're watching the draft,
well if you saw it on ESPN. So they invite
the player and the parents and sometimes siblings to like
the sofa for an interview with Lisa Salters. And when
Boozers sat there, it was Carlos Boozer, two other brothers,

Cam and the mom. And the mom wore you know,
a short shorts or whatever it was. And I decided,
just for fun, let me look, let me just type
in Cam Boozer mom, and oh my gosh, the memes
were hilarious. You know, this is just the thirsty NBA crowd.
They were just saying some crazy stuff. Yeah, if you're bored,

I just punch it into the old Twitter machine. You know,
Elon runs such a tight ship over there. I doubt
they clean it up at all. But overall, Cam Boozer
to Memphis, good luck. You know it'll be a while
before we hear from him again on a winning front.
Caleb Wilson to the Bulls, solid pick at four, like
it a lot. I still don't know that they have enough.
They've got some pieces. Boozellis is nice. We'll see what

Claxton does. They'll be better, but they're probably a thirty
win team. And again, you guys might think I'm being
low on these teams. Just remember what it takes to
win like forty five games in the regular season. You
need to have a lot of talent to get through
the regular season. I mean, Caleb Wilson couldn't make it
through a college basketball season one. So you know, if

he plays seventy games next year, that's a huge win.
But don't expect this guy to come in and be
like Boozer, a walking double double like Wilson has the potential.
I like him a lot. I think he's a big
time future player in this league. But not next year,
no way. And then you've got Keaton Woggler going five again,
no surprise. I really like what the Clippers have Woggler

and Garland in the backcourt. Hello, this is I mean,
I know people don't like it. They were in the
play in they started out I think five and twenty
and they had a massive uphill climb. But you go
Garland Woggler, Kawhi, I guess Dereck Jones Junior. No, I'm sorry,
you got to go Ben Matherin over Derek Jones Junior,

don't you? Or do you make Matherin, you're super sub
six man either way, Brook Lopez or John Collins in
the middle. If again, this is a big if. Like
I said, if Ad plays fifty games, the Wizards of
winning games. If Kawhi Leonard plays sixty five games, I
think the Clippers are probably a fifty win team and
in the playoffs. But that's just such an asterisk. But

I do like the combo of Garland and Woggler. That
is a nasty, just absolutely filthy.

out of Arkansas. He's a beast. He'll probably be their
best player by like year two. Some bonus is fine,
Keegan Murray's fine. They just don't have a lot. Kingston

Flemings to the Hawks. Now, Now the Hawks are interesting.
I'll put them on the side for a second because
of something I heard so I put out there on
social media. You know, Anthony Edwards, where's he gonna demand
out and go to Like we're talking prime, Anthony Edwards

is gonna fetch more than Yanna Scott and Anthony Davis
Scott combined. Okay, we're talking assuming Anthony Edwards is Guys,
I'm done here. They're gonna refashion starting lineup. It's gonna
be because Devincenzo's gone and Randall's gone. Devincenzo with the Achilles,
it'll be ant man Io Desumu, It'll be nas Red,

Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert. That's a really, really strong
starting five. The problem is in recent years they've walked
away from huge factors on their team. Karl Anthony Towns.
We gotta dump them, Nikol Alexander Walker. I think they

lost those two and back to back years. And now
you basically salary dump Julius Randalls, So you're signifying we're
just being cheap, you know. And you look at the
bench and it's like a little bones Highland Tret Shannon
Junior who's flashed Kyle Anderson. They got nobody coming off
the bench. So Aunt knows, well, she's not only do
we have to play eighty two games to get to
the playoffs, but then you've got to be healthy there.

If our five is healthy, we good. If anybody's not
one hundred percent, we're cooked. And it's a tough spot.
And let's just say hypothetically, of course I'm not trying
to run him out of town. Twenty four. Anthony Edwards
turns twenty five in August, his guys, I've had it,
I'm done. Trade my ass. They're not going to trade

him obviously, but within the next two years. If the
pressure keeps up and he says, guys, I'm not resigning
blah blah blah, you've got to move him early. Now,
you never want to trade a star like Anthony Edwards
unless you're gonna star and more back. Edwards is essentially
a top four player in the fine, top six player
in the league, an electric scorer, certainly a face of

the franchise, all around talented star who's got at least
seven eight more prime years left, assuming he takes care
of his body. One of the guys on social media
floats to me, well, he's from Atlanta and the Hawks
have a potential star that they could give you back
in Jalen Johnson. Now, the only way this works, of course,

is if Anthony Edwards says, get me the hell out
of here, which very well could happen. Could it happen, like?
Is it likely? I don't know, I have no idea.
But if Anthony Edwards says I want out, you got

to go get a star in return. I mean Jalen
Johnson is a good place to start, and of course
is from the Atlanta area. Legendary high school player, really
good basketball player, went to the University of Georgia. It's interesting.
Just file it away. Anthony Edwards and the Atlanta Hawks.
It's interesting. It's it's moderately interesting. Again, he'd have to

formally ask out. Now you could say, well, shucks, Celtics,
give up Jalen Brown and everything else that's not bolted down,
go grab him. I think that's a little that that's
not happening. You're you're not giving Anthony Edwards to the Celtics.

Mavericks coach is Dusty May, and I'm like, what the hell?
He just won the championship at Michigan. He literally three
months ago won the national championship and he's leaving. I

was floored. I was like, I had to double check
is this ai? Is this a fake account. Wait a minute,
Dusty May, who recruits in Lendeborg is a transfer, a
Demara as a transfer, Mores Johnson as a transfer. Dusty
May brings in all of that. Oh, the point guard
Cadeau from North Carolina, and there was one other guy,

love this Michigan team forever because we had them in
the Calcutta an awesome hit. And so you're just like,
wait a minute, what he's leaving a team that won
the Natty, has a great recruiting class, is gonna be
automatic top three. He's leaving for the NBA to go

coach the twenty win Maps, who are a borderline dumpster
fire but do have Cooper Flag. And then the draft
comes and you see what they do and you're like, oh,
well that's kind of interesting. So sorry. They won twenty
six games last year, Jason Kidd got run off, they
hired the new GM what's his face? Spacing on his name?

He was in massiu Zierie, right, So they've got their
ideal starting lineup based on last year, Lively, Washington, Cooper Flag,
super Max, Christy and Kyrie. Problem is, everybody was hurt right.
Derek Lively missed the entire season two years ago. They
go to the finals, So the MAVs hired Dusty May

and at nine go get Morez Johnson, who did nothing
at Illinois, then goes to Michigan as a huge factor.
If you listen to last week's pod, friend for Schill
talked glowingly about Mares Johnson. Okay, he went ahead of Marrow,
which says a lot. He's a bit better offensively, he
has almost equal length. He is really a bull down

there who can play the four or five. But interestingly,
they now have Lively, Daniel Gafford and Mores Johnson, and
you're like, interesting, what are they cooking up? Well, they
wanted Cooper Flag to pay point kind of had to
with Kyrie out. There's really no point in having Kyrie Irving,
and if you are going to move off him, you
do it sooner than later when he's got value. You

don't want Cooper Flag to play too much point guard.
But they had the small guard, Brandon Williams, who was
an electric point guard at Arizona. He's got some juice, guys.
I don't know if he's a high level starter, but
he is a starter to ease the burden on Cooper Flag.
So if you can package Kyrie and one of those

two bigs, be it. Gafford, I don't think you want
to move off Lively, who is a lottery pick. But
if you can package one of those two bigs with Kyrie,
maybe you get something pretty damn good in return, like
an All Star caliber player. The problem is, I don't
at the moment know who that player is. But the
more you look around the league, you're like, Okay, well

what teams are gonna be pressed to come below the
second apron? Or you could even say, well shucks, So
Detroit you need another offensive creator. You want Kyrie and
a big give us Jalen Duran? Is that possible? I
don't Miami heater gonna need a point guard? Do they
get in bed with Kyrie? Now they don't have anything

to give you, But you just you start thinking. You
look around the league. I know they're never going to
do a deal with the Houston Rockets, but Houston's got
some They've got some pieces. Am and Thompson I love
him on the team. Portland Trail Blazers, They've got a
lot of stuff. There's just there's gonna be some moves
to be had, but I like the Dusty may Morez

Johnson Cooper flag. That's an interesting trio going forward. They're
not gonna be great next year, but nobody expects him
to be. And I'll round out the top ten. Not
gonna go through the whole first round. Braden Burry's big,
big fan of him. The guard out of Arizona, deferred
a little bit to the senior Bradley in the backcourt,
had a loaded front court. Okay, this team was stacked,

and he I feel like he's kind of under used,
almost in the vein of one of these Kentucky guards
under Calipari. You know they you know, the last guy
to stop Tyrese Maxey was John Calipari. That kind of
comment that seems to happen a lot. It happened with SGA,
and there's a few other guys that we've been through
where they're kind of undervalued because they were held in check,

and I think Burrey's could be that guy. The thing
is he goes to the Bucks and you know, all
I did was rip the Bucks this week because the
damn Bucks. I mean, come on, they got nothing in
return for Giannis. They should have done it a year ago. Well,
Burry's is a good place to start, and I believe
they also got I want to say, Nate Ament. Yeah,
they got Nate Ament with the thirteenth pick. By the way,

I did not realize this, but I follow this women's
basketball player at USC. Her name is Jazzy Davidson. She's
a good basketball player, and she's got a good Instagram account.

there's lots of hype leading up to the NBA Draft

two days ago, Jannis gets traded and that soaked up
a lot of the oxygen. Nobody's talking about the draft

maybe top five, okay, and then the World Cup is on,

and it just so happens that two days ago Messi
and Bope are going off. The US team obviously is
a major factor. You've got Harry Kane played yesterday, Christiano
Ronaldo's course too, goals. There was just so much happening
in sports that the draft, which was pretty predictable at

very strange. This is how strange it is. I'm embarrassed
to admit I'm on a text shame with a couple

first round, I'm like, man, this is kind of there's

many how many playoff wins does he f? You know,
Jaron Jackson, you know had I think a couple runs

in Memphis, but they need like a real veteran to
tie that locker room together. I saw Jamar DeRozan is
going to be bought out by the Kigs, and I

would say they're one of the five worst teams in

is just not a lot to love here. Some really
