Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntire.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up, Street Fire Fan, It's me Jason McIntyre,
Straight Pawyer for Thursday, June the eighteenth, Another glorious day
in the World Cup.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
I'm just curious who these people are who aren't enjoying
the World Cup.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Every team that entered the field has now played one game.
We go to the second set of games starting this morning,
Chechia against South Africa. I like Chechi there, Switzerland, Bosnia, Canada,
Katar and then the nightcap, which is going to be
a banger Mexico South Korea. Winner of that takes the group.
(00:48):
You know, I could do World Cup stuff every single day.
I actually went on you know, when I go to
the drive to work in the morning, I'll open up
iTunes see if there's any podcasts that are worth listening
to quickly scan through.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
And it's weird.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
I get into this guy, Prof g and he's got
like his political angle and his markets and then his like,
you know, work wisdom, and I get a lot of them.
I like a lot of the prophecy stuff, and I'm
looking around. There's no like daily World Cup. Here's what
getting up to speed? There I haven't found one.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Maybe I'm just missing it. But for instance, there are
takes to be had on Cristiano Ronaldo. He was awful.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
It looks like they're probably gonna need to bring him
off the bench. It almost is a Carmelo Anthony situation
where he's gonna be like, come off the bench. Are
you out of your freaking mind? And they end up
drawing with Congo. Portugal was horrific. Had one shot on
goal against Congo. What that's insane?
Speaker 3 (01:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
I mean, it's like a real situation. You had Ghana
beating Panama with a goal in the ninety fifth minute.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Unbelievable. Colombia the nightcap.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
I actually won money on that one, just a late
beta pizza money on Colombia and they covered because they
were minus one point twenty five. Don't ask if you
don't know, just look it up and they they got
a goal in the ninety ninth minute to win three
to one. Outstanding. But of course England was the big one.
You guys all, I'm in that player goals pool and
(02:16):
Harry Kane was my first pick. I think I had
the third pick. It went Bope Holland and then I
got Caine I think went third and he had two
in the first half.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Folks, Harry Kde is so good, he's.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
So fun to watch. Bellingham got on the board in
the second half. Croatia is supposed to be good and
England crushed them, like I mean, the stats were off
the charts. I think England is in the class of
Spain and France in this tournament. I know Spain didn't
look at Argentina of course should be there. But every
day the World Cup stuff is just phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
I'm enjoying it.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
I have the games on The beauty is this isn't
like the NBA or the NFL, where every single there's
not a lot of action. In the NFL, I think
they did some breakdown on the Wall Street Journal, it
was like actually eight minutes of action in a football
game because there were so many plays are so quick
and then there's just this huge stoppage, replays, penalty and
(03:13):
it's just there's not a ton of action. In the NBA,
it's end to end, constant action. Soccer's on, but it's
it's like a chess match. You're setting stuff up. So
it's great to have on in the background. Obviously, you
lock in for the big games, but it's just awesome
to have it on and you can get other stuff done.
And when the announcer's voices get excited, you can tell like,
(03:35):
oh oh.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Here's somethings about to happen. Only let me tune in
and you look up.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
It's just I love this and we're going to getting
six weeks of this. Guys, We're how fortunate are we? Anyways,
today's guest is one of the best guests that annually
comes on the podcast. Franfracilla calls college basketball games. He's
back on the NBA Draft. He knows these players as
well as anybody. He's got a one hundred and fifty
six page document breaking down all the guys in the draft.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
It is unbelievable stuff.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Now, there are a couple actionable betting items that you'll
get out of this. I mean, I'm not gonna give
up everything, but a couple of the names to listen
closely to are Morez Johnson, Kingston Flemings obviously at Die Mara,
Chris Sinak. There's a bunch of if you listen closely.
We're one week out from the draft and there's a
(04:23):
friend just has amazing stuff. Also programming. Note, no pod tomorrow,
no pod Monday. We're back Tuesday, quick, little respite for
your boy. Be back on Tuesday. I'll go ahead and
pick you. I'll piggyback off yesterday's great guest, Eric Ranalda,
and I'll go USA two, Australia zero, and we win Friday.
We win the group, folks, I'm not even kidding this
(04:47):
US stuff. There's a world people are simulating out. We
could play on July fourth?
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Are you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of America. We're gonna be
playing maybe maybe.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
On July fourth.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
That's just too good to be too Anyway, without further ado,
let's go to ESPN's Fran for Shilla.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
You know a guy, Jason likes to think he knows
everything when it comes to sports.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
I know what sports fans want.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
But for everything he doesn't. He knows a guy who does.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Let's just say, I know a guy who knows the
guy who knows another guy.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
All right, let's welcome back to straight fire mister Draft.
He's as good as it gets, folks. Fran for Scilla,
legendary ESPN announcer. He's back on the NBA Draft next week.
Very fired up for a loaded draft. He's seen all
the prospects. He just got back from watching these high
school guys at the top one hundred. Camp fran, I
know you're a busy man. Thanks a lot for taken
(05:43):
a few minutes here.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
Buddy, Hey Jason, we have to make this. We make
this happen every June. Right before we did so much
sit by the way for I don't know if you
can see this four hundred pages here. I don't know
if you can see my binder, but four hundred yes, yeah, yeah,
about one hundred and sixty of it is mine, my
own notes. And then we got analytics stats. ESPN provides
us with a bunch of stuff, but one hundred and
(06:04):
sixty my own for what it's worth. It might not
be worth anything, but I do it twelve months a year,
so I collected and yeah, I actually share it with
some of my NBA friends too.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Okay, all right, good to you're excited for that.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
So before we get to the draft, let's quickly go
go to the NBA Finals. I'm sure you watched Nicks
to some people upset the Spurs. I did pick the
Knicks for the series, took them down in five, won
the final two minutes of every game. And you obviously
know Villanova very well, and you have the Villanova knicks
and kind of you've seen Wemby being an international guy.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
Just any big takeaways from watching the finals.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
You know, my younger son, Matt was there for five
years with that group, you know, the eighteen championship, young coach,
and I know I've known Coach Wright for thirty five years.
You know, we're very good friends. And the thing that
struck me is the three guys. Now, listen, it was
a team effort. We got to talk about og Anobi
cat'spin phenomenal, but the three Villanova nicks played exactly like
(07:08):
we remember them at Villanova. That's the amazing thing. You know,
the chemistry they had, and I believe too when you
look at their top eight, that chemistry permeated the whole team,
the Villanova chemistry, Josh Hart with the loose balls, Jalen
Brunson as clutch as it gets. Heading to the Nasmith
Hall of Fame now I think safely without injuries. You know,
(07:31):
Michel Bridges, we thought he was overrated when they traded
five picks for him. Kad had a year for the
agents for him og Annobe credit to my man Tom
Crean who found him in the middle of Missouri, small
high school in Missouri. But most importantly, I think the
thing that stuck out to me was the Villanova toughness,
how it carried over to the NBA. And on the
(07:53):
flip side, Jason, I think you'd agree, as talented as
the Spurs are and were and will be, experience really matters.
Whether it's the coach Mitch Johnson, who did a fabulous
job all year. You remember Mike Brown's been a head
coach like for twenty years in the NBA. That's right, Yeah,
he's seen it all. You know, he coached the two
(08:14):
thousand and seven Cavaliers to the finals. So the inexperience
and the great talent of the Spurs versus the grit,
the toughness, the intestinal fortitude of the Villanova Nicks. That's
how I would summarize the series.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Just one other takeaway the way the teams were built, interestingly,
Spurs heavy through the draft to sell top the lottery pick,
and then of course Castle, Harper and Wemby the Knicks
the opposite their entire starting lineup.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
None of them were homegroom talents.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Actually they're only in their top like eight was like
Mitchell Robinson, right, they they lose this year. I'm just
curious you you like to you know everything about the draft. Yeah,
there are two ways to skin a cat. Obviously many
Oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
Remember you know the Knixt problem for many years is
they were in the middle, mired and media. Yeah, so
I can't remember the last top pick, you know they had.
Obviously Patrick Ewing. Patrick Ewing comes to mind right away.
Carmelo was like what third or fourth or something, But
the Knicks are usually like in the middle of the pack.
And then Tibbs brought him to respectability. Don't forget now,
(09:16):
Tom Thibodeaux brought him in respectability and so savvy, savvy
signings and trades because they didn't have the luxury and
the luck. I would say luck is big here, San Antonio.
Spurs have been very lucky through the years. Man, You
know Tim Duncan because Robinson was hurt, right Jenobi fifty
(09:38):
eighth pick getting wemby the way they did tanking. Kudos
to them, great organization, but the Knicks did it a
little bit different. Hats off to Leon Rose and Worldwide West.
And then of course we were all upset about TIBs
getting fired, many of us, and Mike Brown came in.
Was perfect for this team, you know, and sometimes you
(09:59):
need a little bit of different voice, even even though
TIBs got them to respectability.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Yeah, it's weird, you know, last year under TIBs, there
was so much like, oh, they let him, it was
a letdown against the Pacers. They fire him, and they
wanted Michael Malone first. I don't know if you remember that.
I went hard after Michael Malone. And then it was
Jason Kidd.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
I really wanted Kid, and they were like, all right,
we'll settle for Mike Brown.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
People were not happy, just like they weren't happy when
they got Jalen Brunson. But again, people aka fans, we
know they're not they're not the you know, brightest bulbs.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
Not to rip a ball.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Friend, Well, I got to tell you man. As a coach,
Mike Brown was sensational. Yeah, and it's not just the
X and o's because quite honestly, he even said towards
the end of the run, they put the X and
o's in his back pocket and they just pretty much
played give it to Jayalen off pick and roll and
let him either score or make a play. And and
you know, hustle plays too. Obviously, Kat was big. And
(10:51):
you know, I'm not just diminishing the rest of the guys,
but Mike Brown, really I thought, even on the inside,
it seemed like the spirit you know I have. I
have a family relative who's a coach in the NBA.
Uh And he told me, he said, Dad, I'll just
give you a hit there. You got to coach friendly.
You can't coach hardcore anymore. And you you know, you
(11:13):
can be demanding, hold him accountable, but you got to
coach friendly. And you know, Mike, Mike thought. Mike coached
that team with joy. I don't know how you felt
after those press conferences, but even when things went up
and down a little bit and it was mostly up,
let's face it, that was so good. He coached with joy,
which I think, you know brings out the best in people.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah, totally agree coaching with joy. I like that phrase.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
I'm not I don't know how much I'll be coaching
my kids anymore because they're not really kids anymore.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
But yeah, I will file that away.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
All right.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Frank let's get to the draft. Some interesting news that
emerged this week.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
I don't know if you saw this, but Darren Peterson
decided he's only working out for the Wizards. Yeah, aj
Debonsa worked out for the Wizards and the Jazz. The
Jazz have the second pick. I don't I mean if
it's I think it was last year there were people
who did not want to work out for the Jazz.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
I don't know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
Bailey, they ended up drafting him.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
And he was actually kind of good.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
But this is all. This is all smoke screen. Oh,
none of this matters, trust me, none of this matters.
I understand that Darren Peterson has met with the Jazz,
maybe off site, maybe out in lab I don't know.
I can't confirm that, but I've heard that they have
scouted these three or four kids because it became a
top four. And I'll get to that later. But no,
(12:30):
I mean, they're as long as they got now. Remember
in the old days, up until a few years ago,
the last collective bargaining agreement, the agents didn't have to
give the medical reports to the teams. That's changed, so
the Jazz are going to be very comfortable, good or
bad with with Darren Peterson's medical and the cramping. That's
(12:50):
so that's not going to be an issue, and him
not going to Salt Lake City, to me, means absolutely nothing.
It's just the agent trying to Uh. First of all,
you know, AJ Debons was the consensus number one player
coming out of high school, but going into the season,
Darren Peterson was by many the consensus number one draft pick.
(13:12):
So there's probably a little hurt feelings on the part
of Darren, who's a great kid, because all the talk
is AJ's automatically going one. So now his agency creates
a little mystery here, and I'm not sure who's gonna
go one. I think it's Aj, but I'm not sure
(13:32):
because I think any one of the top four are
gonna be stars, and nobody knows right now. If you
and I were as smart Shay Gilgess, Alexander wouldn't have
gone eleventh. And I told you all, I tell you
every year Jalen Brunson went thirty third. Okay, So my
point is, don't worry about this whole nonsense with he's
not visiting Utah, because if they feel he's number two
(13:53):
and he may not be, he may meet. He may
be three because a Boozer. But and the connection to Utah, right,
Boozer is his dad, and dad works for the Jazz.
To some it all up, it means nothing if they
think he's the second best player on the board. If
AJ or Boozer were to go one, they will take
him and they will not look back.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
It is an interesting breakdown the way Boozer is. I mean,
you keep saying four. I thought it was just a
big three, but it got.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
To be four. It got to be four with Caleb Wilson,
but until he got hurt.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Okay, So Boozer, do you think there's any chance he
goes one? Because I'm reading about how Michael Winger, the
GM of the Wizards. You know, he came from Oklahoma City.
He was I guess with the Clippers and he his
like number one thing.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
Is like character.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Right.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Obviously skill and all that matters, but they want to
build something and they need a character guy. I mean,
Boozer checks every character box. Not that the other guys don't.
But I don't know what would you say the odds
are Boozer goes one any chance or now?
Speaker 4 (15:08):
Yeah, I think so because you know their organization and
I know the organization. But I can't really divulge anything
because okay, and I don't know anything, trust me, because
you know, we're we got a line of demarcation. But
they're a very smart group in Washington, that's okay, see East,
(15:29):
and they're building this I think the right way, you know.
And yeah, that he could go one, I'd say it's
seventy percent, uh, sixty percent AJ twenty twenty with the
other two.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Oh so not that close. But yeah, you know, I
don't know a random workout here. It's weird.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
We don't get as many details, Fran about the great workouts,
the battles, the Dame Lillard workout.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
We don't get those anymore.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Let me tell you this. Let me tell you this, Jason.
I did a lot of Big Twelve games this year,
as you know obviously, right, Yeah, there's seventeen kids in
the league that could go in the draft, and in
that league this year, there could be nine first round
picks in the from the Big Twelve yes, yes, I
mean I can name them all now and you'd say,
oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. But now think about this.
(16:15):
Every time I went to a game this year, it
did a BYU game, or a Kansas or Arizona game,
or you know Baylor's got you know Cam Carr, whoever
it was. Every single team tanking had people at those games. Kansas, Peterson,
whether it's the Wizards, the Pacers, the Jazz, Brooklyn. These
(16:37):
people know so much about the top four players, so
nothing's going to surprise them. So and that's what they
should be doing, right, and that's how that's how you
do your job. So my point is like aj De Bonsa,
to me, having seen him so much this year, he
never had he never took a playoff. I watched every practice.
(16:58):
I was there ten practices. And keep this in mind
about aj people keep they're they're not talking about this.
He chose BYU, probably for nil first, but also Kevin Young,
NBA coach who coached Booker, k D, Joe Embiid, etc.
Assistant coaches coach in the NBA. Three of them, strength coach,
(17:19):
NBA guy, nutritionist, NBA guy. They by chance, they played
in four NBA arenas. This year he chose the Big
twelve where I said, there's a plethora of draft picks,
and AJ stepped up to the plate and let the
country in scoring. And when Richie Saunders got hurt on
February fourteenth, AJ's game took off even more.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
So.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
Not to say he's the best player in this draft,
but if you take him, you're putting your head on
a pillow that night and sleeping. Well.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
Yeah, and I totally forgot when you're saying nine, I
forgot Arizona might have four.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Well, you got how many?
Speaker 3 (17:58):
How many Arizona guys are earning to school?
Speaker 1 (18:00):
It is?
Speaker 4 (18:02):
Krevas is a first round pick next year. Karchenkov is
a first round pick next year.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
Karchenkov went back to school. Wow he did.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Yeah, CoA Pete will go first round, Jayden Bradley early second,
their point guard.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
And then Burry's is the guy you of course, yeah ten.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
So and you know, if you look at Houston with
two camp Carr, Baylor, Josh Jefferson and Iowa State, you
know a lot fifteen at least age.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
In Wow, let's talk about a die Mara briefly.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
So I watched Wemby eviscerate Oklahoma City embarrassed Chet, I'm
sorry if you're if you're friends with chat Ory, I
mean I'm not. But Wemby, clearly, I know people want
to take shots at him for the finals. He's clearly
going to be a force in the league for a
long time. Okay, there's really nobody who can match up
with him. You can rough him up now, but I
would assume in the offseason he's going to get stronger.
(18:50):
The only guy in this draft who you know theoretically
could be a Wemby impediment is a guy like a
Daimarra now, but I don't know if that's how team think.
Like man Mara could be a foil for Wemby, Do
we consider taking him top ten, top seven?
Speaker 3 (19:07):
How high do you think?
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Guy? The answer is yes, And like I'm playing amateur
GM right now. If you're OKC with twelve and seventeen,
would you trade those two picks for eight if you
knew Mara was available? Given that the two best teams
in the West for the next decade look like on paper,
Oklahoma City and San Antonio. However, I think Ognanobi roughed
(19:34):
up Wemby in the finals I mean he went after
him like he was a little child. I mean, he
dunked on him a number of times. So he did. Yeah,
you know what I mean. And I love Wemby. I'm
not criticizing him. He's going to be going to get
better and better. But you know, toughness matters too in
the finals and in the playoffs. I mean, maybe Mares
(19:54):
Johnson is the guy Maress Johnson.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
He's a grown ass man.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
I love that kid. I mean, so maybe Mares Johnson
the is the is the next Mitchell Robinson, you know
what I mean, Like not a ton of skill, no
offense morez. But your your game is defense, rebounding, shot
blocking and toughness occasional three. But like, maybe it's that
kind of player that you're looking at. But to your point,
(20:18):
I think teams are really looking at a Daemarra and
not so much to Foyle Webby, which is very possible
you could be right, But also because he's an anomaly.
You know, he's there aren't many seven foot four guys
in the league now as it's trending back to bigger guys.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Good point Yakxel Lendeborg teammate of a Daimarra yes, you
just mentioned Og Andernobi. I'm not saying he's gonna be og.
But at twenty three years.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
Old, if you squint, can you see.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Some og hyper athlete, really good defender, thick body. He's
ready to come in and rough up some people.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
I don't know. Is that a decent comfort? Yaxel?
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Not bad? You know. I think the problem is I
think I think at some point, either before the season
or early in the season, he's gonna be twenty four.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
So now I'll say this just giving you my insight. Okay,
I did TCU Michigan this year in Fort Worth, like
in early November, and ironically Michigan squeaked by in a
game and then they took off right. But when I
saw Jaxel Linderborg in person, I thought I was looking
at Lebron. Honestly, he's so big, wow ascid. Okay, but
(21:27):
now here's the question. Let me put my assistant GM
Jason McIntyre on the spot right now. Okay, do you
take nineteen year old Chris Sanak at six' eleven seven
to five, wingspan for, example what do you take twenty
four year Old Jaxel. Lendeborg that's gonna be the question
for a lot of these.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Teams, okay all, right so you, Know, sanak let's drill.
Down the guy's playing like eighteen minutes a, Night. OKAY
i gotta be. Honest i've seen. Flashes, yeah BUT i
MEAN i have proof of concept With. Yaxel but like you,
said he's gonna be twenty five for this fault five
year age. Difference by the, WAY i just looked up
Og In. Andobi he came into the league at twenty
and started sixty two, games didn't do, much but at
(22:08):
twenty four years, old he was seventeen and, five, yes
and shooting six threes a. Game Ken lindeborg do that this?
Year is he gonna be a seventeen point a game
guy for a? TEAM i don't know if he could do.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
That, Well i'll tell you, this he's, impressive you. Know
of the, three my favorite of the three At, michigan
my favorite Is Marez johnson just because of you Know
morez is only twenty and he's kind of like what
you need on a playoff. Team, Okay like if you're
building a playoff team and who would be ideal for this?
Spot Like i've had People i've had people, say And
(22:41):
i've spent a lot of time WITH nba scouts this
week here In Colorado, springs, like if you Took Caleb
wilson at four for The bulls and then they pick at,
fifteen they're probably gonna take a guard because there's gonna
be good guards. Available but, man if you Love Mares
johnson and you Got Caleb wilson and who's, ZEALOUS i,
(23:01):
mean you're set for a decade with those three, guys
you know WHAT i? Mean so lots of different ways
to go. Here WHAT i would say About Wenda borg
IS i really like? Him, NOW i will say, this
AND i. Don't i'm not saying anything out of school.
Here there were maturity issues coming into the, season. Yep
AND i seem to think he was a good kid
(23:21):
WHEN i was around. Him he's kind of An East
Coast New York jersey Guy South. Jersey but, YEAH i, mean,
listen there's a lot of teams in that seven to
fifteen range that that value what he does because he's
plugging play from day one and versatile and a really good.
Defender although he couldn't guard Le Baron fylon in THE
uh in the tournament but.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
That's that's a tough one'.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
An so it's.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
INTERESTING i just looked Up.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Sanak he is literally working out with The lakers today
pre draft. Workout but The lakers are drafting late in the.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
First meet he will not be. There trust. Me here
here's here's what you have to like About. Sanak. Okay
And i'm a, fan, Okay and this is HOW i
look at. It, remember in the first, round it's either
production or, Projection. Okay Lende borger is production right. Now
projection is what DO i see from this kid in
three or four five? Years? Right and that's true oftentimes
(24:13):
of most of the. Draft this year it's a little
different because so many good players at the top of the.
Draft by the, WAY i think it's the best draft since. Three.
YEAH i can't imagine there's a better draft in. Between right,
Now here's here's WHAT i would tell you About Chris.
Sanak this is the inside, scoop. Okay and this is
WHAT i love about WHAT i do Because i'm an
amateur draft, guy you, know, yes AND i talk to,
(24:36):
TEAMS i, do you, know But i'm not getting paid
to do the. Draft but ALTHOUGH i am next, WEEK
i guess THAT i guess that's. Different, yeah but this
is my hobby twelve months a. Year So Chris sanak
was cut from the under nineteen team last year led
By Mares Johnson Mickel. BROWN aj debonce At. Copete he
got cut and he went back To houston for a.
(24:58):
Month that means he had an extra. Month instead of
going To switzerland and Beating finland by forty and playing
eighteen minutes a, game he went To houston and worked.
Out Kris. Sanak WHEN i saw him Against auburn in Early,
november on a, play six guys went up for a
rebound and one guy went to the top of the.
Square Kris, Sanak, okay he played the entire. Season he's
(25:22):
going to play the first three months of HIS nba
career at nineteen years. Old he's got a seven to five,
Wingspan he's built like a PROTOTYPE nba power. Forward shooting
the three is down the road two. Years but he
is a professional. Rebounder and here's the final icing on the.
Cake could have went to any school in the. Country
he chose to join the college basketball equivalent Of Navy
(25:46):
seals by playing For, Keith and that told me he
didn't want to take an easy way. Out AND i
told you off the air The villanova kids combined had
eleven years With Jay. Wright, Fortunately Chris sanak And Kingston
flemings combined are only going to get two years With
kelvin and his. Dad if he can take the work
(26:07):
ethic he learned this year At houston and bring it
on to THE nba on his, own because not EVERY
nba team is going to practice Like. Houston trust, ME
i think he's going to be a really GOOD nba,
player a starter at. Worst this is.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Interesting i'm looking up The sanak.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
Measurements he Has yaxel in every category and he's four
and a half years.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
Younger like you, said but that WOULD.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
I mean a lot of people Have yaxel like top,
twelve maybe top.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Ten, yeah he's in, there he's in. There what does
that mean For? Sanak its? Good is he a? Sleeper?
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Well, no because, no actually he's. Not because uh he's.
Not because AND i say this, respectfully there's so much
in the draft industrial complex out there On, twitter and
God god, bless everybody has More twitter information this year
on this draft than ever. Before no problem with, that
but they're not on the. Inside, fortnight you, know And
(27:02):
so there are teams that Love sanak at, ten, eleven and,
twelve and there are a few that Love Wenda borg
for the same reason we talked about plug and play right,
now and that's the beauty of the. Draft we don't.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
Know Fox Sports radio has the best sports talk lineup
in the. Nation catch all of our shows at Foxsports
radio dot com and within The iHeartRadio. App SEARCH fsr
to listen live.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Any major surprises that you see.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
COMING i know nobody wants to talk about guys who
could be quote unquote, falling but any surprises rising or.
FALLING i Mean sanak to, ME i haven't seen a
prop number for where he could, go but twelve seems extremely.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
RICH i, mean he is working out with The lakers.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
TODAY i think twelve to, me twelve to twelve to
seventeen is my range for him if he. Goes, listen
if he goes past, seventeen someone's getting a, steal and
a playoff team is getting a steal Like i'll Get
i'll tell you The knicks would be doing handstands down
Sixth avenue if he's, available what twenty three or twenty?
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Four, yeah now that's a great point and.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
There's gonna be a guy like that because The knicks
needs some size up. Front we don't know About Mitchell
robinson and his contract, situation But i'll tell you a
guy THAT i Really i'm looking down my list. Here
by the, way let me say. This nobody knows who
the best of the top four is going to.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
Be.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
Nobody, okay there was A I'M i have told you
this in the. Past there was A hollywood, Producer William.
Goldman he Did Butch cassidy And The Sundance. Kid he
did a million a million. Hits and when he had
a movie coming out one time and now he's like The.
Goat someone, said how do you think this movie is
(28:44):
going to be and he, said nobody knows. Anything, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah,
Okay so we can all act like we, know but we.
Don't BECAUSE i want to tell you. Something If Caleb
wilson goes to The Chicago, bulls he's gonna like it's
going to be unbelievable because that kid has the biggest
chip on his. Shoulder he thinks he's as good as
any of the top. Three and by the, way he
(29:06):
got the better of the top three in each of the.
Games this. Year, wait, wait hold, on hold On.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
Boozer, YES i remember that one exhibition game.
Speaker 5 (29:14):
He Exhibition bonsa And CAROLINA byu In Salt Lake city
wherever THEY i don't know what they call the arena,
now but that was like a, sellout.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
Okay and then, yeah a lot of people think he
got the better Of. Boozer and then He, hey, listen
let me tell you about this. Kid when they Beat
kansas early in the, Year Darren peterson was really. Good
Caleb wilson was. Great after the, game they said To,
Wilson carolina. Wins you seem extra. Motivated he, said, YEAH
(29:45):
i played with the other guy in the McDonald's. Game
he never passed me the. Ball. WOW i love that.
Speaker 6 (29:51):
Kid He's and by the, way when we interviewed guess
what when we did a lot draft lottery a month
ago ON, espn we of you one player and his.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
Mom, right it Was, boozer it was The bonsa and
it Was. Peterson. Okay Caleb wilson is sitting there with
his mom AND i said to, myself this kid doesn't
need any more fuel on the. Fire and in my,
opinion when he goes To, chicago they because it's a
big market and the History michael and The, Carolina michael
(30:25):
and The bulls And. Scottie this kid is going to
Own chicago because no offense To, memphis it's a small.
MARKET i could just see The Sears tower, like you,
know lighting up with a hundred story you, know like you,
know poster of this.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Kid, oh so use bullish On.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
Wilson he's got, something he's got Some James worthy and
he's got a little bit of any. Bias remember when
you heard it? First, WOW i.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Mean it is interesting because, usually more so in THE,
nfl the guys who slide have a chip on their
shoulder and they get major.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
Payback, yeah and you think that could Be wilson.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Here, well remember we missed the last nine games of
his career because they shelved, him, right that's. Right Youber
davis is my good. Friend he coached, him AND i
Love hubert and you weert played in THE. Nba and you,
know every TIME i mentioned, him he goes COACH Nba
All star locket down and he goes he might be and,
listen he's proven. IT i mean he had he had
(31:23):
historically the best year in the history Of carolina basketball
for a. Freshman it's not even.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Closely, yes, wow you Know Jerry, Stackhouse Rashid wallace really.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
Wow, well remember those guys had to share the limelights,
somewhat that's, right And michael was a young player on
that great team With perkins And worthy And Matt doherty
And Jimmy. Black but, statistically you, know it's mind boggling
what he. Did so everybody WHO i know knows the
draft and MY nba, friends they're torn because something tells
(31:56):
Them caleb could be the best. Player having said that
it's safe to go big three and Then caleb to
shitt Got.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
I'm, curious do you think you saw anything in THE
nba playoffs that changed your outlook on guard versus wing
versus Big because you, Know Donovan mitchell finally broke, Through
James harden finally broke. Through The caves were right. THERE i,
MEAN i know they got buried by The, knicks but
they took down The, pistons who.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
You know only had one.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Guy, Basically, yeah you See Tyrese maxie emerging as like
a major potential. STAR i don't know any big takeaways
that you could apply to the draft regarding, guards because
there's like four or five awesome, guards but not all
of them could go top ten frand, Right.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
Well the crazy thing is there's seven that are going
to go in the first. Round seven seven. Guards, yeah
got to Throw, Sturtz anderson and o'cory From stanford in. There,
yes second half of the. Round But i'll say this
to answer your. Question first of, all you know small
guards are now in, vogue, Right, Jalen Maxie donovan are
(32:57):
all six. Two so anybody who's worried About Darius, acuff
who to me is Like Dame. LILLARD i started calling
Him Dave Miller loward earlier in the, year and it
sticks BECAUSE i THINK i told you this a month.
Ago if you come From, Baltimore Saint, Louis, detroit Or,
oakland you wear a major chip on your shoulder because
you're not FROM La, Chicago New. York so you don't
(33:19):
get the pub those kids.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
Get, yeah oh that's.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
Good. See and so this kid's wearing a giant boulder
on his shoulder much the Way dame did coming into
the league From oakland And Weaver. State so but here's
WHAT i would tell. You this Is Baskin. Robbins, OKAY
i Love Keaton, Wogler, yeah rangy guard reminds me Of Ty.
HOLLIBURDEN i Love Darius acuff six' two bulldog reminds Me Of.
(33:46):
DAME loward I Love, mickel brown who was thought to
be the best point guard coming into the draft before.
The season and then WHO am i? Leaving out somebody?
Really Good Oh Kingson Fleming, Kingston flemings, yeah Yeah And
throwing bury's who's not really a point Guard. From arizona,
but anyway THOSE four i can't tell. YOU who i love.
Them all and here's WHAT an nba scout, told me.
(34:09):
Yes yesterday if you're picking ten, this year you know
you're getting a really, good player and you can't say
that in. Most drafts so, whoever drops and if you
want to take A, day daimara if you want To,
take lendeborg if you want to be sneaky And Take
maress johnson at ten or eleven or twelve right, to
fifteen there's a good chance you're going to get a
(34:32):
good player in. This draft and so with those, Point
guards i'd be lying to. You now if you made
me put a gun to, MY head i would probably
take a Cuff, or Flemings Because kingston flemings is one
of the greatest human beings of, all time and he really.
Is incredible by, the way his sister's Going to she's
a five star Going to duke.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
Next, YEAR dude i saw they were brother's. Sister player.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
That's amazing and you Know at KINGSTON king I Think
I eton kingston played on THE same aau team since,
second grade All Little san, antonio. Kids right and then
also he made thirteen Trips to houston Unofficially From San,
antonio houston a six hours. Round TRIP and i said
to him during, the year when did? You know when
(35:17):
did you want to know you wanted to Go? To houston,
he SAID after i watched the, FIRST practice, I said
i want to be Coached By. Kelvin samson so?
Speaker 3 (35:25):
What's that what's? That like samson's just a major hard ass.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
Every day of. The week and and here's the great Thing.
About kelvin he was really tough on his, best players
which this year happened to be the two Freshmen and Sharp.
And uzanne but, every game almost, every game he ran
the first two plays of the game for the. Two
freshmen it was almost, Like saying i'm hard on. Your
ASS but i believe, in you and so he ran
(35:51):
the offense. To them, you know that'd be like giving,
You Know derek henry to read the first three, the game.
You know but, But yes Kelvin is kelvin. By choice You,
Choose kelvin You're choosing.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
Navy, seals yeah, all right, Final question So, regarding yannis.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
You know there's this talk about. The heat we'll talk About.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
The celtics i've floated the Idea If, I'M milwaukee i
want the fifth pick From. THE clippers i don't know
that they, do it But If, i'm, MILWAUKEE like I Love,
Jalen brown he's a, great player great. Human being he's
also going to have like an albatross of a sixty
seven million dollar contract or whatever the, number is extension
at like.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Twenty nine. That's insane they're not going to. Win ANYTHING
if I.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
WERE milwaukee i would want that. Fifth pick do you
think there's any Chance the clippers part with it.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
To go make a Run? AT yanis i would.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
Just SAY that i Know that milwaukee is looking at
everybody or What is? Milwaukee pick they're like there, are, teens,
yeah OH where's.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
I think, they're eleven. Maybe twelve you're picking? Ten, TEN
okay I.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
Know milwaukee is preparing for two. HOTTERY picks i don't
know who who who they're gonna do.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Deal with but that's, The problem like There aren't Like
the bulls are probably not gonna Go. Get, yoned No
the nets are not going to get him because he's
not going to. Sign There the, king's Nope, the. Hawks
Nope the mavericks are. Moderately INTERESTING but i, don't know
what are You.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
Trading kyrie irving? To that To?
Speaker 2 (37:15):
The bucks what are you? Doing there so That's why
i've Circled. THE clippers i. Don't know you keep going.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
SAY more i just don't think. YOU know i just read,
a Study as i'm as Right as i'm getting ready for.
THE draft i read everything you know at, the analytics the,
the storylines. THE background i just read a STUDY and
i can't remember where where you know trading a player now,
we can, we can we can figure out Like when
boston put Together the big three that worked out great
(37:42):
and then it. FELL apart i JUST wouldn't i JUST
if i was one of those middle of THE pack.
NBA teams i Just think giannis is going to take
too much effort to, get them and then to pay
him and to upset your. Salary cap you're gonna be
probably paying, you know boukoo.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
And.
Speaker 4 (38:00):
TAXES yep I just i don't, see it but it's.
OUT there i Do think milwaukee's getting rid. OF him
i just don't know where.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
He's, heading yeah that's the thing that mind the, heat
situation like that's just.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
Not, attractive yeah, All RIGHT Frankfischella.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
Nba, draft obviously we'll look forward to, your coverage, great
stuff breaking down all. The guys one hundred and forty
eight page document. HE'S got, I mean.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
I'll, send it send me, Your email i'll send it.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
To you, oh, yeah okay sounds like. A plan i will.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Devour that, it's, proprietary, Yes yes i'll sell it on
the black market for. A.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Bitcoin.
Speaker 4 (38:34):
Yeah yeah by, THE way i always enjoy talking, with
you especially about, the draft because you're. So, CURIOUS well
i want to.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
Learn stuff that's the, only way.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
YOU know, I mean i like TO think i know,
college basketball but you're in the weeds with.
Speaker 4 (38:47):
These guys the beauty, of this, the BEAUTY as i
said to, you earlier none of us. Knows, anything no that's, The,
point like, YOU know, i mean Why Did tom brady
go in a? Six round? Come on and THAT'S what
i love about the draft is finding Those Guys like i'm,
A BIT like i, Told you i'm A Big jayden
Bradley guy arizona second round backup point guard, twelve years
(39:07):
gonna make seventy. Five million you gotta have them on.
Your team every everybody needs a backup point guard when
you have a really.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
Good team so but the, thing, is YEAH like i
like him, a lot, but friend if he goes to
Like The, brooklyn nets it's not.
Speaker 3 (39:19):
Gonna matter he's just not going to be a factor because.
Speaker 4 (39:22):
Well listen that's if they don't, play him that's their
problem because they got a lot.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
Of games well they'll find a way. To screw but
Like The sacramento kings Could take woggler in the.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
Top, Ten, MAN like I, love woggler but he's not
gonna be able to make.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
It happen they're, they're terrible.
Speaker 4 (39:36):
They're dysfunctional there's certain there's certain TEAMS that i hope
certain players don't. Go to THAT'S all i, Would, say, yeah,
YEAH no i, you Know but i'm just telling you
like there Are Like. Josh hart you have to try
to Find A josh hart, right now like or An.
Og Anannoby and i'm not saying it's easy, to do
but you can't just BUILD an nba team, around stars,
(39:59):
you know like The great, collins said know, your role
stay in, your role starr in. Your role and Kudos To,
josh hart who thinks he's the best player in, the
league but he probably. Really doesn't his self awareness is.
Speaker 5 (40:11):
So.
Speaker 4 (40:11):
Good, yeah yeah he thinks he's the toughest guy in.
The league and you need you need to find guys
like that in. Any draft. THAT'S all i.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
DIDN'T realize I thought hart was A second he went
thirtieth overall. First ROUND but i like To Think I'm
josh hard of my, Men's League Jimpy Chip Game tonight hard.
Speaker 4 (40:28):
Of podcasters they, TELL.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Me, I wish i Wish That. Josh harty you bring it.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
Every night THAT'S what i love. About it you don't
bet when it comes. To podcasting you don't back down.
From anyone THAT'S what i. Love it
