On today's episode, Jason discusses a thrilling first day World Cup Round of 32 action that ended with the two late games ending in penalty kicks, why you should never have believed the rumors of a Big 4 in the Bay Area featuring Steph Curry, Draymond Green, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, whether it's fair to be frustrated with super agent Rich Paul after he yet again tried to manipulate the media to gain more leverage for his clients, why we all wish big men Jalen Duren and Walker Kessler were unrestricted - not restricted - free agents, and how the Los Angeles Lakers can retrofit their roster around Luka Doncic this summer.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is straight fire with Jason McIntire.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up fire fail?

Speaker 3 (00:13):
It's me Jason McIntire, straight ow Yer four Tuesday, June
the thirtieth.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
This is day one of NBA free agency.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
I guess they bumped it up a day because Wednesday,
July first obviously the big USA Bosnia World Cup game,
and maybe they just said we don't want to mess
around with that. They did, remember, moved the draft as
well to not coincide with the USA soccer game. So yeah,
obviously the World Cup taking over NBA will do a
lot of I do want to quickly, just quickly start

(00:45):
with the World Cup action on Monday.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
It was incredible.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
We knew this day would be amazing, and it lived
up to the billing folks. First of all, took a
brutal beat on Brazil Japan. Game winning goal by Brazil
in the ninety fifth minute. They had six minutes of
stoppage time and Brazil, after a bad turnover by Japan,
scores to push it over two and a half.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Brazil wins.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Absolute chaos, just a party galore, just a tough one
for Japan.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
So that was thrilling.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Then Germany a heavy favorite against Paraguay. I was already
planning my July fourth festivities around France. First Germany and
once you know what, the game goes PK's Germany just
gags and Paraguay pulls a stunning upset. Now, I thought
Germany was jobbed on a goal in extra time, but
they ended up calling that this guy made contact with

(01:35):
the goalie who was kind of out of the play.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
He was kind of blocking the goalie.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
It looked like the goalie took a dive and they
overturned the goal. I thought it was kind of a
weak call. I didn't really care about that aspect of
the game. I had the under which hit. But what
stinks is we don't get Germany.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
France.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
I'm just telling you, Paraguay is a rough watch. And oh,
by the way, the USA kicked their ass for one
and Germany lost to him. So I think if anything
that pumps up the US a little bit more, does
it not. In the final game of the day, Morocco
Netherlands for my money best match of the tournament, I
was on an island taking Morocco. Everybody had Netherlands Netherlands
scores in like the seventy second ish minute and then comes,

(02:20):
you know, ninetieth minute.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
I feel like we're cooked.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Ninety first minute Morocco header from their center back just
randomly out of the blue goal ties it.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
I'm going crazy.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
And the underhits in that one as well, and you
get to penalty kicks at one of the things. I
know you guys are probably sicking me hype with the
model that I built through Claude Cowork.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yes, I'm paying for Claude Cowork.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
Guys.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
This thing's amazing.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
If I read you the exact right up. I wrote
most of it on the newsletter. It essentially said, this
is going to be a brutal weather spot for Netherlands.
It's being played in Monterey, It's going to be like
in the nineties and humid at kickoff, and it ended
up being like eighty six degrees.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
In overtime.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Netherlands ran out of gas. Lalas talked about it. It's Latan.
The announcers were like, Netherlands not even trying. They just
they're gassed. They had to sub off their goalscoreru gack Po.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
He was just cook.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
He had nothing left in the tank in overtime and
they don't even try in overtime and they played for
pks and then Morocco defeats him in penalty kicks.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Rob.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
I know on the radio show, you guys had some
drama with penalty kicks. I'll just say this, I do
believe penalty kick like there's a psychology behind it. I
read a story about the USA keeper in the Wall
Street Journal. Freeze is like obsessed with them, wrote papers
on them, studied them deeply, and I guess he showed
well in penalty kicks a couple of times and that
helped his cause to get picked for the national team

(03:47):
because he was always behind Turner. I mean, there's a
guy Freeze who was like buried in Philadelphia. They'd moved
off of him, and then he gets to wash the
Red Bulls and becomes like a superstar. But penalty kicks
are thrilling. There is nothing in American sports that can
match it. NBA overtime is the same game. Major League

(04:07):
Baseball just has X ratings, although it is walk off
you know, golden run or whatever you want.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
To call it.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
And then NFL just has overtime, although NFL made it
more interesting.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
I think with.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Each team gets the ball, I do think the only
thing to me that's close to penalty kicks, and I'm
sure people to disagree.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Is college football overtime? I for some reason just love that.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
It's you know, we're not playing, we're not talking about
great defenders, so it's usually like going like six overtimes
and wackiness like that.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
But penalty kicks, to me, rob is a secret science.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
And I cannot stand the guys who run up and
do that stutter step action to try to trick the
goalie and they end up tricking themselves. I feel like
more often than not, I have no data to back
that up, but every time I watch pks and I
see the stutter step, I'm like, what are you doing?

Speaker 2 (04:58):
And it rarely works, But I personally love them. A
lot of soccer pewerists hate them.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
What is there to hate? It's high drama.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
Like I was in the studio watching me the early
game when it was going on, and I'm flexing after
a stop like I'm not even I'm not emotionally involved
in either of these teams, but it is high drama.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
It is electric.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
The World Cup in and of itself is a different
animal compared to any other sport that we have here
in America.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
Right, like the.

Speaker 5 (05:25):
NBA Finals, I don't think compares to it. The Super
Bowl definitely doesn't compar to because that's more, you know,
watered down in corporate.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Corporate.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
These are even as expensive, these tickets are.

Speaker 5 (05:34):
These are real fans with real passion, who have been
saving up their lifetime or at a minimum the last
three or four years, to be like, hey, the World
Cup is coming to X country. We're not taking a
family trip. We're not buying a new car. We're not
sending our kid to college. You're gonna go to JC
for two years. They we'll figure out the rest after
and we're gonna go to watch said country at this

(05:55):
World Cup. It is bananas. And to see it come
down two. Are you gonna do the shuffle kick? Are
you gonna go left? You're gonna go right?

Speaker 4 (06:03):
You're going high? You going low?

Speaker 5 (06:05):
And to see all of this play out in real time,
it is incredible. I don't know why anyone wouldn't like it.
If it's to me, I'd go straight from full time,
you know, the ninety plus, whatever the stoppage, I'd skip
the extra time. I wouldn't even do that extra fifteen
thirty minutes. I would go right into the penalty if
it was me, huh.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
That's interesting. I haven't heard that.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
Take the other thing, I read an article again. I'm
not to flex the Wall Street Journal. They're not advertising here,
but they charge like a dollar a month, so I
got it for a year and it's awesome. There's a
story about all these European fans who are coming here
and they're going to games in like Kansas City, and
most people in Europe think of America. They think of
oh la, New York, Miami, the big cities, right, and

(06:45):
they're like, where is this kid?

Speaker 2 (06:46):
What is the suburbs? You know, they're like discovering what
the suburbs are.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
And they're like strip malls all you can eat like
food at like outback or whatever wherever they're going.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
And these European and the foreigners are loving it.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
They're just like, holy, this is a totally new dimension
that we don't have in our country. So the World
Cup is just delivering big time. I don't know how
Tuesday's games can match what we saw Monday. Just three
absolute bangers the games on Tuesday. I know France Sweden
is one because I will be on that one. The

(07:20):
other games, let's see they are as Jason super slow
here Ivory Coast, Norway. That's kind of a good one.
And then Mexico Ecuador. I'm a little nervous for Mexico.
I thought they'd cruised, but a lot of people are
now telling me be careful with Ecuador. I'm gonna sit
that game out. I think Mexico basically a home game.

(07:41):
But anyways, all right, let's get to the NBA rob
because several NBA stories drop with free agency starting today.
Let's first tackle this this goofy Lebron Warrior stuff. Okay,
and I don't mind being wrong. I don't care. You're
gonna be right, You're gonna be wrong. Whatever it happens,
you move on. I just can't get over this whole
Lebron and ad nonsense to the Warriors. And I'm calling

(08:03):
it nonsense because when a bunch of reporters are putting
it out there, it feels like Rich Paul doing work.
And I will remind you guys, a week ago, Austin
Reeves was going to be going to the Lakers at
thirty million dollars a year. That's been reported the Lakers
talked to him. He was looking at thirty mil Austin
Reeves came out and gave I think he talked to
Dan Woiki and he was like, listen, it didn't feel good.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
It didn't feel like they wanted me. I was down.
I thought I was done as a Laker. Then the
Detroit Piston showed up.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Austin Reeves had leverage, and the Lakers up their offer
to forty six.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Bill Boom.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Let's fast forward to this week. Lebron wants to play
for the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
That's obvious.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
He don't want to play for peanuts. How do you
not play for peanuts? You convince the Lakers that you
have an offer from someone else. He does not have
an offer from someone else, that's obvious. So what do
you do if you don't have an offer? You bluff
like you do have an offer. And so instead of
just saying, Lebron to the Warriors, oh look what Rich

(09:06):
Paul's doing. Two of my clients are gonna reunite with
the Warriors. Golden State's gonna trade Jimmy Butler to Washington,
Jimmy Butler and stuff for Anthony Davis, who will go
to the Warriors, and then the Warriors will sign and
trade for Lebron James. It sounds good, right, it's I mean,

(09:29):
you put you put that in the headline. Everybody's like
going crazy. And then you take a deep breath, Rob
and you look at the Golden State Warriors roster and
you're like, what.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Kind of pooh pooh platter you giving the Lakers for Lebron? Huh?
What are you doing here? Huh? Pud Zemski, Yeah we
got that. We got the rich bands.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Pud Zemski in Austin reeves, Gie Santos, Now, we're good,
we're good.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
We don't need Ge Santos. Who else you got? Moses Moody.
Oh he's snapped his leg. He's probably gonna miss bunches.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
Yeah he's not.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Gary Payton, No, can't shoot, No thanks, Pat Spencer. I
don't need a lacross player.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
I mean, gotta go down the roster.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
They got nobody.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
There's no literally nobody on the team.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Yaxel, lendeboorgh Okay, I'll take Yaxle.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
You're gonna give up and give him up. But I
need more than that. I need picks. I need something.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
And so again I'm calling total bs on this whole thing,
and what happens on late Monday, Rob, Oh, look, the
Golden State Warriors decide that they are going to sign
Chris STAPs Porzigis two years, forty million dollars. So we
had a full day of this Lebron nonsense. And then
at the end of the day, I guess realizing, yeah,

(10:42):
that's a pipe dream.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
That's not gonna happen. Let's go grab Porzingis.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
So according to Anthony Slater ESPN, the Porzingis signing makes
the math trickier for the Warriors to clear enough cap
space to offer Lebron the full fifteen point one million
dollar non taxpayer mid level exception. Okay, and then they say,
but there's there's pass still, Rob, for them to clear
enough financial room, particularly given Draymond's decision to decline his

(11:07):
player option, give the Warriors flexibility. And then, Rob, wouldn't
you know it, they don't actually outline those other.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Paths because they don't exist. It's so silly.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
What is Draymond gonna play for peanuts so Lebron can
come in and make a lot of money.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
I'll believe that when I see it. Give me a break.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
I'm just not buying it.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
And again, I get it. This is the game. This
is what you have to do as an agent. But
I think the Lakers are smarter than that. It showed
with Austin Reeves.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Hey guys, sorry, we're not playing, We're not doing the BS.
So Lebron you can come back to us on the
cheap we can retire. I mean, Rob, I am I'm
saying there's like one percent chance he goes to the
Warriors until I see the actual path and deal. Golden
State has no players none. Now, if you want to say,

(11:57):
hey there's a three team deal, okay, let me see
who's gonna facilitate Lebron.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Going to the Warriors. What GM is doing that, who's
helping the Lakers and the Warriors. I don't know, Rob.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Until I see an actual path that makes sense, I'll
believe it.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
But until then, no way.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
I can see the Lakers going after somebody like not
to Scoff. But I saw one of those aggregator accounts
said the Lakers are targeting Dean Wade, the wing of the.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Of the Cavs. I just I don't see it, Rob,
What am I missing?

Speaker 4 (12:29):
Well?

Speaker 5 (12:29):
First off, don't disrespect Dan Wade. He could be part
of the snowtime Lakers all right, and we're cornering the
market on Caucasian individuals. That's the way we're doing it.
Shout out to the nineteen sixties aras basketball.

Speaker 5 (12:53):
First off, let me just say that I would love
to see the Lebron ad Steph Draymond on really quartet together,
just because I like old people doing stuff. That's one
of my fetishes. That's one thing that I'm into in
terms of sports, in terms of movies, television, music, I
find something fascinating about old people getting together to do

(13:17):
literally anything, because I feel like there's.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
A favorite movie. What's your favorite movie?

Speaker 4 (13:22):
Vegas is my favorite movie of all time.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
I like seeing old people do things, whether it could
be having a bachelor party in Vegas like that movie,
or whether it's playing NBA basketball. I believe that those
four guys individually, if they're healthy, would fit pretty well together.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
I think it'd be fun to watch.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
But to your point, as soon as that Kris STAPs
Porzingis deal came down, it was like, well, Okay, so
the original plan was We're gonna trade Jimmy Butler to
get ad and then Lebron's gonna take the fifteen million
mid levels.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
So edit, edit it.

Speaker 4 (13:52):
Well, now we can't do that anymore.

Speaker 5 (13:54):
And I wish that I was like you, who's you're
naturally smarter than I, but also think you're little skeptic,
I believe, And as soon as the news came down,
I think you kind of snuffed it out really quickly
because you know how the sausage is made.

Speaker 4 (14:08):
You ran a multi billion dollar website.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
For a long time, oh my god, sold it by yourself,
a new soccer team in Mexico, and you're like, this
is not how this works. There's got to be something
that is plausible, not everything is a pie in the sky.
It's like the Laker fans, who we all know, is like, hey, well,
you know streets are saying we're gonna get Steph Curry
this summer. It's like, how don't worry about that, just

(14:31):
thinking that's gonna make it happen. But that's the kind
of stuff that we deal with, you know, in LA
and on social media, and you snuffed it out very quickly.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
As much fun as that might be.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
As romantic as that might be to see Steph and
Lebron team up after the what did for tm USA
a couple of years ago, it's just not possible. Yeah,
and this is very I'm not gonna say unbecoming, because
it is. This is what happens, But it is disappointing
that Rich Paul and Clutch Sports and Lebron, James and

(15:05):
ad and and Draymond, all those guys. But Rich Paul
specifically has created a podcast for another network and he
likes to share her his perspective on things. And if
you were just listening to him, he say, well, his
opinions are kind of out of wild, like I don't
know if I would really listen to Some of them
were interesting, and then you consider, like, oh, well, he's

(15:28):
an agent. So when he's talking about, for example, Austin
Reeves needs to come off the bench, is he saying
that because Austin Reeves really does need to come off
the bench, or is he saying that because this is
going to benefit my.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Guy if this happens.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
When he says that, you know what, the San Antonio
Spurs should just run it back next season, is he
saying that because you think that's what's best for the team,
or is he saying that because don't want to see
dearon Fox?

Speaker 4 (15:54):
Get right?

Speaker 5 (15:57):
And I assumed that once reached forty plus and once
the Lakers signed JJ Reddick, and once they drafted Bronnie James,
that they had done enough bidding for Clutch Sports and
Rich Paul And now with Lebron James growing a full
gray beard talking about how he doesn't know how much
longer he's gonna play, you would think that there will

(16:19):
be some level of decorum and there isn't. Rich Paul
and all these guys are acting as if Lebron James
is thirty two not forty two, and they're trying to
game the system, manipulate multiple NBA franchises, and it's just
it's not my cup of team.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
Yeah, it is unbecoming.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Listen, It's a job, you know. It's like it's like anything.
People come up and ask you about the Atkauple, what's
it like working with Rob Parker, you know, and you
gotta say, hey, yay, ban J Mack because what was
that segment you guys used to do?

Speaker 2 (16:50):
It was so fun, the hot seat hot Seat And
I went on.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
There and I was just talking so much trash and
then eventually Rob's like, you're not coming back, bro, So.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
It's a rap tapping his watch. All right, that's over.
But so yeah, listen, you gotta you gotta say what
you gotta say.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
And I think Rich Paul's actually he's doing a good job,
but there's no way that's gonna work for so now
Rob spin it forward. Then the question comes, so does
Lebron say, Okay, yeah, I'll play for what fifteen mil?
I'm just picking a low number under twenty or does
he retire?

Speaker 1 (17:25):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
I just don't think he can bluff his way to
a retirement at this stage. He would have to be
so unhappy about the salary. He would have to leave
his son, who apparently is gonna get his option picked
up here or whatever it is the final year.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Of his rookie deal. He's just gonna bail on his son.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
To me, it feels like he just he doesn't want
to go back unless the price is right. But ultimately
I think he ends up going back. That that would
be my guest. Now, the real question is what are
they gonna do with the money they safe from not
paying Lebron Rob.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
I don't have any good answers on that, do you.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
No, not at all. I don't have any good apswer.
I wish I did. It'd be a better content if
I did.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
I mean, it feels like this Walker Kessler thing. I
saw something like the Jazz. They made the qualifying offers it.

Speaker 5 (18:14):
Well, according to multiple outlets, the Big Fish because again,
this is not the sexiest free agent class. It's really
two centers and they're both restrictly free agent. The restrictly
free agency takes away all the fun because no matter
what you offer them, the other team can match. So
the chances of a guy leaving a restrictly free agency
is like ten percent. If that so the big you

(18:36):
know scuttle butt coming into the overnight hours here Monday
and the Tuesday is Hey, you know that Walker Kessler
and Jalen Duran are going to be taking meetings on
Tuesday at the start of NBA Free agency. Great, So
the Sacramento came to meet with Jalen Duran and the
Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets and the Chicago

(18:56):
Bulls and are going to offer him a max contract,
you know, potentially, and then Detroit Pistons and Utah Jazz.
All right, well, I guess we're keeping them. We're just
gonna match the offer.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Wait wait, wait, hold on, hold on.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
The Lakers could potentially offer that much money to those guys.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
They could.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
The problem is they wouldn't be able to bring back
any of their players. Like yeah, yeah, well Marcus Smart,
according to who you listen to, is.

Speaker 4 (19:22):
Already ear mark for Houston.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Is he really that's a dog?

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Well?

Speaker 2 (19:27):
How does he play? They got they're gonna have ven
vleiet to have Amen kd.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Read Shepherd, read Shepherd, Marcus Smart, Sheng Goon, Tarry Eason.
Well no, he's probably gone, right, But it's just like again,
as you like to keep him because I think I
think he's a He's a valuable piece for the leader season, right,
he was probably the if you said who were their
best players to order this season? Obviously Lucas one, MHM

(19:55):
Reeves two or lebron To who was four? I mean
Ruiachi Moore, I had a good argument, but I'm Marcus Smart.

Speaker 4 (20:06):
Yeah, probably Marcus Smart, And I would say.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
So your horse best player walking out the door.

Speaker 5 (20:10):
But he's good for the Lakers from the Houston perspective.
The big knock on them in the regular season and
in the playoffs especially was you guys can defend your
ass off, but none of y'all can score except for
kat Marcus Smart. How does he fix that problem?

Speaker 2 (20:26):
She doesn't, right, So it's like, what are you doing?

Speaker 5 (20:29):
You know, I don't under It could be one of
those situations where they overpay to get a guy because
they think he gives leadership qualities, they think he's a
playoff performer, and it ends up being maybe not this bad,
but a DFS situation. Drian Finney Smith was their big
acquisition last year. Yeah, he was getting he was getting
DFS was getting DNP there in the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (20:47):
Oh, you know what I mean. So that's just just awkward.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
Jalen duran Is is interesting.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
Is his value so cratered from bad playoffs that he's
almost a bargain at this point. I just I didn't
see greatness in the regular season. I saw good. He's
not a Rim runner, right, He's not like a Derek
Lively type, which is what Luca needs defensively. I guess
he's good. I don't see I don't see him being
like an elite RIM protector.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
So what is he rob He is.

Speaker 5 (21:19):
A very good NBA center and he's only twenty two.
So if you're selling yourself on the idea of maxing
out a guy who is very good when not necessarily great,
you're saying, hey, three years from now, when he's making
forty seven million dollars, we have a twenty and ten
center just sitting there on our roster. And that's why
it's interesting that the two big free agents here are

(21:42):
Duran and Kessler, because neither one of them I believe
is an elite player. You know, Duran is an All
NBA player. That's probably because the success of the team
less so than him. But they're so different, Like Walker,
Kessler is bigger, you know, ideally he's a rim runner,
but he doesn't really get vertical. He's a great stand

(22:02):
in front of the rim and defend kind of defender,
kind of like Rudy Gobert type. But Jalen Duran is
more athletic, He's more springy. While he's not Derek Lively,
he can defend in space. And it's like, well, you know,
which guy do you prefer? Which one fits better with Luca?
I contend neither one of them is an ideal fit
with Luca, but you're kind of pot committed at this
point where you're like, Hey, Luca wants a center, we

(22:23):
got to get a center.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
So I'm looking at the stats for the Detroit Pistons
shots block last year. Isaiah beef stew who's gone, led
them at one point six.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
After that on Star Thompson with what zero point nine?

Speaker 3 (22:47):
Paul read zero point nine, kid cutting gam zero point eight,
Jalen Duran zero point eight. Like Jalen Duran blocked as
many shots per game as freaking kid cunning.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
You give me a break, Like.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
He's not a room protector.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
I don't want anything to do with Jalen Duran, Dude,
I mean, you're gonna pay him like he's your third
best player. There's no way I'm not seeing it. I
would go after I would, But wait a minute. If
it means no Ruie, no Canard, no Lebron, what why
would I do that?

Speaker 3 (23:24):
You'd basically be trotting out Luca Reeves. What does Jake
Larivius slide into.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
The starting lineup.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
Got it?

Speaker 5 (23:31):
Well, I mean with snow time, we might have to
Kessler and who's the other one? I mean Drew Timmy
still there? In a two way they got that kid the.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
Second about the snow time, I'm just saying, like, who
would be their starters?

Speaker 4 (23:45):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (23:45):
I missing someone in that scenario. It's Brownie might get reps.
I'm sure they would add to somebody else that.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
They would be car. No, I can't.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
I can't nuke the I mean, do you think the
Lakers have to start the stones to meet with Kessler?
And say, Bro, take a little bit less, get to
play with Luca Reeves, Lebron, you're in La. How's the
how's the after hours situation in Utah?

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Bro?

Speaker 5 (24:09):
I'm sure they would offer that, but you talk and
be like, Okay, then we'll just match it.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
So unless you're.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Going if they match it, he has to stay.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
Yeah, the old kids just he can't just pick the
contract he wants.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
No, it has to be a sign in trade. The
only way it works in your favor. You say, all right, Utah,
in order for you not to match it, here is
a first round pick. Here's two first round picks. Here's
a pick and a swamp whatever. It's a terrible situation.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
Yeah, the franchise.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
Honestly, I know people don't want to hear this. Rob.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
I'm kind of sort of team run it back with
one or two small moves around the edges because I'm
not giving up.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
You lose Ruey. What shooting do we have?

Speaker 1 (24:48):
Jared Vanderbilt.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
He can't make a shot to save his life. It's
not like they're shooting out there on the market Dalton connect.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
They're done with him. I just yeah, I can't do it.
So would you go out after Kessler?

Speaker 4 (25:01):
I wouldn't.

Speaker 5 (25:02):
But like I said, it seems like they're pot committed
as soon as they said we are going to build
this roster around Luka Donches. Luka Donchetz has made it
very clear, both in his own words and his overseas
marketing thing with Jordan Brand and in what he's told
the Athletic and ESPN. First thing that I want is
a center because that's how.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
I play my game. High pick and roll.

Speaker 5 (25:24):
They can't double me. I'm throwing the lot to the
big man. That's how I have a lot of success.
I want two wings that can defend and hit the
open jump shot. Figure all that out, and the problem
is there are no good centers aside those two guys available.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
It's bleak. Again. I'm not forcing anything.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
I'm taking the view, and again maybe it's silly because
it just happened.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
I'm taking the view of the Knicks.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
They got Jalen Brunson right then you build around him.
Now they had a little more time because I think
they got brun set at twenty six. Luca was twenty seven.
You don't want to piss off Luca. But I'm not shooting.
I'm not ending firing all my bullets here this summer
just because I have bullets.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
I would listen, Rob, they won fifty three.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
Games, they got out of the first round. Now, there
was some luck involved in that, but they didn't have Luca.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
I don't want to hear that. Well, the Rockets didn't
have Fred van Vliet. Come on, give me a break.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
Does this say, oh, well, you're already conceding the season.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
You're gonna have no chance to beat the Thunder or
the Spurs. I don't know. I mean Ja Doub got hurt.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
Aj Mitchell got hurt and the Spurs beat him.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
So I don't know.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
I mean, injuries happened, guys, Wacky stuff happens, I don't.
I mean, yes, the Spurs go in as the best
team in the West, but that doesn't mean they're automatically
gonna cruise through.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
Look at the Knicks this year.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
How can people aren't saying, well, what if Tatum doesn't
get hurt for Game seven against the Sixers?

Speaker 2 (26:50):
What if Tyrese Haliburton plays?

Speaker 3 (26:52):
Like? How can people aren't saying that? That's a good question,
you know, And I'm a Knicks guy, so I'm not
downplaying it. I'm like, you don't have to apologize if
you win the chip, you got it. I want, I
don't care. But like this idea that well, the Lakers
automatically aren't gonna no, not automatic.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
Nothing's automatic. You have no idea what's gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
So I'm fine with running it back, and it sounds
like that's probably what they're gonna do right.

Speaker 5 (27:18):
As of right now, it feels that way, I do.
I would be shocked if they really run it back
where it's the same roster, I would imagine, but I
would imagine that at least two of Hachamura, Smart and
Canard are gone because you have to upgrade to find
some kind of rangy wing defender.

Speaker 4 (27:39):
Whether that's making.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
It you need RUI though I would bump the other
two right.

Speaker 4 (27:42):
Sure, but it's like, whatever you have to do.

Speaker 5 (27:44):
You can't go into the NBA season where your best
wing defender is a six' four shooting, guard like you
need to find six seven to six,', nine. Springy athletic
hopefully he's as good of a THREE and d like YOU.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
Know eq but if.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Those guys grow, ON trees, i Mean, like tray problem
is everybody.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
Wants them that's. The problem so you have to overpay it.

Speaker 5 (28:06):
Again him so if that means, you, say hey whoever
we get is going to be, more DEFENSE more d,
than three then we got to. Do that but they
they can't feel like they can go into next season
with the same slow footed guys because it's just an.
Athletic mismatch when you go Against the spurs And the
thunder and things.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
Like that we shall it's it's it'll. BE interesting, I
mean I Think trey murphy's probably the bell of. THE
ball i think somebody will swing a deal, for, him unless,
Of Course jalen brown, goes somewhere, but like, you Know
if I'm the, lakers again we Saw The, houston rockets
huge favorites in the. First round, they lose and where's

(28:46):
the consternation that they're going to run? It back and
they're gonna lose the top six guy on their Team
and Ethan and, nobody's saying why are they running?

Speaker 2 (28:53):
It back that's, So dumb like how come that's not?

Speaker 3 (28:55):
A thing, i, mean yes the thunder made a lot,
of moves but they've got, draft picks, YOU know i
mean it sounds like They're. Keeping hartenstein They draft mara
and they drafted, someone else? Didn't, they oh They traded
Wiggins and joe right because these guys told.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
They are it.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
Looks like they picked up. His options unless the other
guy they Got.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
Was, bennett sturtz the white Kid snowtime lakers could have.
Used him SO like, I mean i, mean again like
this whole run it, BACK idea i don't have a
big issue.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
With it houston's running.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
It back minnesota made, major changes but they went to
the conference finals twice and then regressed and lost in the.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
Second round, YOU know.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
I, DON'T know i actually we don't need to go into,
It here but This Whole miles. Bridges Trade the hornets
just had their best season in a decade, and, decided
yeah we're gonna dump two of.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
OUR starters i think that's a. Bigger deal.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
That's huge they could actually backslide rob. Next season they.

Speaker 5 (29:54):
May they could be one of those teams that, YOU
know i know that it's it's the right thing, to
do because you'd like to think these teams have. Moral
compasses and there's some kind of somebody you said about
culture but, in sports and this is more evident IN
the nfl THAN, The nba but talent trumps all, that
stuff and they determined That The miles bridges off the,

(30:15):
court stuff Coupled With LaMelo ball being an unserious player
both on the court and off, the court we're better
off for our franchise if we have more responsible adults on,
our team and that that's what they have now at
one thousand percent the guys, they, have though with all
due Respect To kobe white AND nasried i.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
Don't think are as talented as either one of.

Speaker 6 (30:36):
Those, two yeah so they'll probably take a bit of
a step back, this season but it could be that
in a year they're, much better and then they have
a bunch of PICKS like I Like, BRANDON miller i
LIKE conkinple i Just.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
Like conkinipple we saw in the postseason that he was,
very limited, you know he couldn't really do, anything anyways,
all right well in the play in, sorry Listen The,
WORLD cup nfl and a. Free agency what a time to.
Be alive we'll see.
