an opportunity for an entire family to come to your concerts,
so like I was born in nineteen hundreds of eighty three,
and I can bring my kids, I can go, and
(01:29):
I can bring my mama to your concert and everywhere,
and we can stay all day and have a good time. Right,
this concert series has been so good. I feel like

just want to.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Tell you, brother, Man, I appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
We're excited.
Speaker 7 (03:06):
Man. It's one of my favorite lineups today. And we've
been doing this for sixteen years. Yeah, it's one of
my favorite. You said you was born.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
In nineteen hundred to ninety eighty three.
Speaker 7 (03:15):
Man said nineteen hundred and.
Speaker 6 (03:17):
Eighties said nineteen hundred.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Well, you know that's old. You know, I'm very old
to my kids. You know what I'm saying. I got
a kid that was born in twenty twenty.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Man, Listen, why didn't think anybody that's over thirty years olds?
Speaker 5 (03:28):
Right?
Speaker 6 (03:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Whoop do well? Whoop do you do?
Speaker 8 (03:31):
So?
Speaker 2 (03:31):
I just want to first of all, just give your
flowers because you and motown what you guys have created
and culture cultivated.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
In the city of Atlanta.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
It makes people come in town to spend money, bring
money to the city. And just walking around last year,
I felt the energy and I just like how it's
different stages too.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
You guys did it so real festival.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
It is Man.
Speaker 7 (03:56):
I mean, honestly, it's uh, you know, I I have
to pay homage to these other festivals, right for sure,
that kind of gave inspiration, right your Lollapa Losers, your
bona Rous, your Coachella's. But y'all know I mean that
(04:16):
that those weren't really.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
Built for us, right, right.
Speaker 7 (04:22):
But as far as like what they built was so powerful,
I thought, and like witnessing it, like the the brand activations,
the communities, the connectivities, the different generations out there just
and just just a safe space of creativity and self expression, right.
(04:42):
And when I saw what they had, and I also
am listening to the music that's being programmed on their stages, right,
A lot of that is urban based. But we weren't there, right,
We weren't really on the stage. I wasn't really catering
to our culture. So you get to a point and
(05:03):
you start to ask yourself, well, why, right, why don't
we have this? And nobody can really answer that question,
like back in two thousand and seven, two thousand and.
Speaker 5 (05:14):
Eight, and that's when I just realized.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
I was like, we need to have this kind of
safe ground, this space, this this pilgrim pilgrimage right where
people come from all over and and and you know
what I'm saying that the homies are coming in from
from New York and Michigan and LA and and we
have this space where we can just celebrate all kinds
(05:39):
of music, Like don't put us in a box, right,
Like why can't.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
We have Mary J.
Speaker 7 (05:43):
Blige and uh, you know a chief keep in the
same space Like to us, it makes sense, it makes sense,
you know what I'm saying. I mean, that's that's the
breath and the diaspora of of our culture and our music.
So you know, I said, hey, man, like I see
what y'all are doing over here, like would y'all help
(06:05):
me build this for my community? And the responses that
I would get from from those folks was it will
never work. Black folks ain't gonna go to nothing like this.
And these weren't black people telling me that black folks
wouldn't go to.
Speaker 6 (06:22):
Do like this.
Speaker 7 (06:22):
So that's when I said, and then this is something
that we're going to have to figure out.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
And build, build, build on our own.
Speaker 7 (06:28):
So yeah, it just really kind of started building the
team of talented friends and associates that I had around me.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
I said, I'm gonna need help with this one, y'all.
Speaker 7 (06:37):
And yeah, it just started taking form, launched the first
one twenty ten and then yeah, we ain't looked back since.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
I just want to let you know, man again, I
want to give your flowers, sir, and just let you
know what you have contributed to the city of Atlanta,
because I know you got.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
To because you got to get approved.
Speaker 6 (06:59):
Oh yeah, yeah, that's a whole different process.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Bro location, hermits, all that, budgets, all flights, green rooms.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Or you know, you got to provide all these things.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
And you're dealing with a lot of different artists, personalities
and pages, and.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
You have so many checks and balances, brother, and I
just want to and then one thing I will tell
you that you've got that I I love too is
the food.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Damn all that food. Yeah, we went last year, yes,
back full effect.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
I'm sorry to say this, but we didn't have the
access to get where we are.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
They knew who he was, so we just we walked in.
They were like, come on, we got you.
Speaker 6 (07:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
But but but.
Speaker 7 (07:48):
I can't take I can't take blame for that though.
Who I'm not gonna look over my left shoulder at dayly,
but not.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
I didn't have the credentials. No, no, no, I won't.
I won't worry about that.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
We didn't have that, but we had to. I wanted
to get to this food truck that I saw.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
What did we eat?
Speaker 4 (08:12):
I don't know, but they knew us and they added
some extra catfish and I was like, man, I loved y'all.
Speaker 6 (08:17):
I was like, we love y'all.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
But what happened?
Speaker 2 (08:20):
The reason I'm bringing this up because I had been
meaning to go to this particular restaurant Black owned, and
you guys had the You had them there and it
was just dope because I was like wow, and it
was another food truck right next to it, and the
lines was like but they were moving fast. I just
was like, Wow, this is a great experience.
Speaker 6 (08:37):
Bro.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
I one time I worked in with Louis V.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
It was the year before and he was DJing and
said he allowed me to host with him and he
did an R and B bag and I ain't a lie, man.
I think that's when Little Kim performed.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
I can't remember. Man, you guys have so many different
big big.
Speaker 6 (08:54):
I get it.
Speaker 7 (08:54):
You know, when she threw a panties off the stage,
everybody kind of you know, what I'm saying that little
Kim moment was was was legend. Man.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
I just want to give your flowers.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Brother, Like, damn, man, I just don't know any other
thing that happens in Atlanta to the stature of this
in Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
And I'm just I'm pro Atlanta.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
So I'm just happy that we have on one music
fest that people can plan for and say I'm coming
to town for that I can't wait.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
For and need to be verse man, like like how
you said earlier you got marriage a.
Speaker 6 (09:21):
Blige or you want to watch she Key, you want
to see future.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
You want to see she's at this stage.
Speaker 7 (09:28):
Yeah, I mean the app allows you to kind of
plan your own schedule music.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
Music.
Speaker 6 (09:34):
Yeah, we're kicking up, y'all, not playing.
Speaker 7 (09:36):
I mean, it's a lot, it's a lot going on.
So I mean what we found is that people have
to kind of program their day, right, So you find
the artist that you like, you highlight them, and then
the app automatically kind of puts together your schedule. Man.
Speaker 6 (09:48):
I mean that's fire.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Yeah, that's fire, and it's and it's safe. It's a
good time.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
It secured everywhere.
Speaker 6 (09:55):
Now it's secure that it's.
Speaker 7 (09:58):
Fun though I haven on your shoulder, you walk down, Yeah,
you ain't get back in. Yeah. Talk, Yeah, we don't
mess around, We do not share area is secure.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Yeah, and uh, I wanted to ask you.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
We do have a mental health segment one time for
Keisha's The Faith Project Transitional Housing.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
One.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Music has got to be you know, stressful, stressful in
a way, shape or form. How would you how do
you how do you manage your mental health during that time?
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Because I know your phone is going crazy? Yeah, how
do you manage that?
Speaker 7 (10:33):
I mean I think you managed the things that you
can't control. You you you invest in and things you can't.
You kind of just put your hands out.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Because you always seem very cool tempered. You got to
be mobile over here.
Speaker 5 (10:49):
But I think it's about your team.
Speaker 7 (10:50):
Yeah, you always be cool vibes man. Well, I mean
you can't like you just you can't allow the the
moment to kind of stress you or distract you from
like the cause, the why and getting.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
To the finish line.
Speaker 7 (11:10):
And I think it's also about building a team around you,
you know what I mean. When I first started, I
was juggling so much and literally one of my one
of my close friends saw me like going through it,
and dude literally said, hey, man, you know you don't
have to do this by yourself, right He told me that, and.
Speaker 6 (11:29):
I was like, man, I'm trying to tell and.
Speaker 7 (11:32):
He said, what do you need me to take off
your play right now? And I just threw them a
couple of things, and that weight off my shoulder just
made complete sense. So I realized, by investing in the
right people, you know what I'm saying, One, it's going
to make the experience overall better, right for you and
everybody else, Right, as long as you're hiring people that
(11:54):
are good at what they do, for sure, but also
just you know, teaching you the skill and shopping your
tools with regards to how to delegate.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
Right.
Speaker 7 (12:04):
So I learned that early on when I started doing
large scale events.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
Man like, yo, bro, like I can't. I can't do
it myself.
Speaker 7 (12:10):
So it's also having faith in the higher that you made,
you know what I'm saying. So, uh, bringing on the
right folks, and after a couple of years, it's like,
I know, if I throw them the rock, they're gonna score,
you know what I'm saying, So I don't have to
stress about that, you know what I'm saying, And it's
also doing doing all the work that you have to
(12:32):
do up front, so by the time you get to
the day of you're not running yourself ragged. You know
what I'm saying, I'm checking off all the boxes week
weeks prior. We should have no surprises. The only surprises
we may have to deal with a ship that's I'm sorry,
things that that are.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
That that's that's out of our control.
Speaker 7 (12:52):
Like weather, it's out of our control.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
I remember one year it did rain for a second.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
A little bit about if an artist, like artists just say, hey,
I got a surprise.
Speaker 6 (13:04):
Guess we love that? Okay, we love that.
Speaker 7 (13:07):
I mean we yeah, I mean every year we probably
had at least a half dozen to a dozen surprise guests.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (13:15):
Everybody want to hit that stage, bro, and.
Speaker 5 (13:17):
We love it.
Speaker 7 (13:18):
Like tea pain was a surprise last year. The year
before that, Jake Cole popped out with.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
With with Janet Jackson saw that.
Speaker 7 (13:23):
Yeah, I mean we got surprises that ship in.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
The stage we was at Yeah, Louis want to talk Louisvie.
Speaker 7 (13:29):
The uh but yeah, man, So the surprises we we
we live for it because you know, you know, black folks,
we always want to bring our cousins.
Speaker 6 (13:37):
We're always gonna bring our cuts.
Speaker 5 (13:38):
That's right, that's right, speaking cousins.
Speaker 6 (13:41):
Oh my god, that's with you.
Speaker 5 (13:42):
Man.
Speaker 7 (13:45):
Back back, back back to the direct.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
I saw the branding on his arm, and I said
some stuff I shouldn't have said. Yeah, well, listen, man,
we just wanted to spend some time with you. Man,
we appreciate you coming on Ball Alert and talking music.
Speaker 4 (14:02):

big boy bridges on.
Speaker 4 (14:25):

like excited to see or do you do you get
to watch the show?
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Do you have time to sit back and watch so?
Speaker 7 (14:33):
I mean, yeah, I have selfish moments, absolutely certain. I'm
just turning off the radio. I'm not answering the phone,
I'm watching this performance, Janney Jackson. Absolutely, Janet Jackson. I
watched How to See Kendrick. Yeah, selfishly, I did he
make make the Stallion.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
Stage. I just had to see that up close?
Speaker 3 (14:58):
God, I never matter. I was, you know, was close.

the hotel, you know, little staycations.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (15:27):
Yeah, yeah, we try were trying to help the brothers
out a little bit.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
