Podcast called 25 Whistles. Talking football and they all wear
a whistle. Yeah, it's stupid, but what did you expect?
It's a podcast called 25 Whistles. 25 Whistles. We have
a cool show because we'll talk to author John Talti
in a little bit who wrote the book on Lane Kiffin.
(01:34):
And like I said, I love Lane Kiffin now. Only
because I hate him so much.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
It's full.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Like, I'm into it. And they gave up, by the way.
They said, okay, we won't sign any pros. And those
two other spots, they just signed two other dudes. They
don't want to get kicked out of the league.
Speaker 5 (01:49):
So what happens to the pros?
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Those guys, they just go back and try to get
on a practice squad.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Oh, man.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Not that they wouldn't have anyway. They might have, but
they decided, and I would have too, if I could
come back and play college again, not because it's just college,
because they were going to make probably a couple million
bucks versus 200,000, less than that on the practice squad.
Speaker 6 (02:10):
Yeah, and actually play, possibly win a championship with LSU,
how good they are.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
It's all about the millions, though.
Speaker 6 (02:15):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
That's all secondary.
Speaker 6 (02:17):
True, very true.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
It's making $ 90, 000 a year versus $ 2 million a year.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
So, yeah, laying lost. But we'll talk to John coming
up in a little bit. He's got a book. We'll
do our Super Bowl predictions coming up as well. The
game last night was interesting, and the note that I
made was, did the Pearl Jam guitarist play the national anthem?
Speaker 5 (02:36):
Mike McCready.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Don't do that.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
Don't do it.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
I know that's your guy.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
Yeah, what about him?
Speaker 1 (02:41):
And you love Pearl Jam, so you're obviously going to
be positive about it.
Speaker 5 (02:46):
Oh, it gave me chills.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
He was doing too many solos that weren't. I don't
like when singers do runs that aren't a part of it.
And I don't like all the solos that aren't a
part of the song.
Speaker 6 (02:55):
So just do the song.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Do the song. Because there would be a part where
it would be like.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
Yeah, that's where you got to do the wham.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
No, it wasn't even Jimi Hendrix.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
It was more.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
It was too much. It was not the same melody.
No need to show off for the anthem. You did it.
It sounded great. It's too much dicking around. What?
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
That's crazy, dude. I watched that and I got chills.
Speaker 6 (03:19):
Because it was your guy or because it was his guy?
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
I mean, Mike McCready, Pearl Jam, all those guys. I
love Pearl Jam. And to see Mike McCready represent Seattle
and America with his guitar was so cool to me.
But I guess you hated it.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
As someone who likes music, he can play guitar, obviously.
But if it were a singer doing the same thing,
I say the same thing. If someone's like, oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
I hate that too. That's not your song to take
liberties with.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
You want to know what's so cool is I've seen
him play that live because in some of his concert
during Yellow Leadbetter, he'll go into a solo into the
Star Spangled Banner. So I've heard that same version. So yes,
I can understand why hearing that at first being like, oh,
that's kind of, oh, that's too much.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
It's not about, no, no. That's how I feel about
that song with anybody doing it. It wasn't just about
him and his performance. No liberties with the national anthem.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
Stapleton, a few years ago, he just played it straight, right?
Speaker 4 (04:23):
Straightforward.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
That one gave me chills.
Speaker 6 (04:25):
Straightforward.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
The song is meant to be saying about America, not
for you to do a little dance on the side.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
Amen. Okay, guys, relax.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
And I made a note to talk about that because
I was so annoyed by it.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
And you knew that you were going to.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Annoy me too. And he was like, in the home.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
He did a little tapping.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
He's putting in like all the famous riffs in musical history.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
He goes into even flow.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
So the game quickly from last night.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Not a great game.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
No.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
And Sam Dunrow gets hurt immediately. And at first, I
didn't know why it was hurt at first. They were
just saying lower body for a minute. It turns out
it was his hip.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
Hip. Yeah, because he was limping.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
What are they saying now?
Speaker 6 (05:08):
Yeah, so now they're saying he's expected to miss just
a few weeks. So for sure already out for the
second game. We expected that. But they said that they
dodged a bullet basically and he should be out just
a few weeks.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
But what's the injury?
Speaker 6 (05:19):
But they're still waiting to get an MRI for more
results as of we record this right now.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Yeah, what's the injury?
Speaker 6 (05:24):
It's just a hip injury.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
I had one of those. Like, just tweaked it? Like,
how bad was your... Generic hip... No, not that bad.
It was just a hip injury. But you could just
say that. It just hurt a little bit. I was
fine the next day. So I had the same thing
until they diagnosed him fully. I had the same injury.
Did you get refunds on all your bets? No, because
I had bet a parlay of... Sam Darnold and Drake
(05:50):
May both passing for over 230 together. And I don't
think Drake May hit 230. He was not even close
the last time I looked.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Got it. But if he would have, you would have
gotten paid half.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
I would have got paid half.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
Got it.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:59):
It says the hip is intact. It's more of a
muscle thing. So that's why they're looking for M.R.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
It said it's more of a muscle thing.
Speaker 6 (06:05):
That's what it literally says.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Whoever that rider is.
Speaker 6 (06:07):
It's more of a muscle thing.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
And something.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Yeah. I hate to see anybody get hurt.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
Yeah, that was terrible.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
And the first game of the season. And the Super
Bowl champions.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
But let's go, what's his name, Drew Locke? Drew Locke?
That sounds right. I mean, let's go Drew Locke, dude.
I mean, you came back and won that game.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Yeah, and Drake made three picks.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
That helped.
Speaker 6 (06:30):
Yeah, we also lost the game. But what helps me,
not that you guys are asking, but what helps me is.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Because you're a Patriots fan.
Speaker 6 (06:38):
Yeah, I'm a Patriots fan, but last year, nobody remembers,
great year we had. Week one, we lost to the Raiders.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (06:46):
At home, in an Ugly loss.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
And he made it to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (06:50):
And we made it to the Super Bowl. We lost
three games all year. So two more after that all year.
So I'm like, okay, it's week one.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
The difference is that team last year, year one coach,
quarterback finding himself. This, you know who you are. Same coach,
same team. I don't think that, I get it. I'd
hold on to hope too. Yeah. But Seattle's also great defensively.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
Their defense is nasty. And I will say, Drake may
look like he had PTSD from the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 6 (07:17):
Like he, as long as we don't play the Seahawks,
I'll feel okay.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
I liked his hair though. It's a little longer. He's
going out a little bit.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
I didn't notice that.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
I just noticed the pics.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Look a little longer to me. He's on the sideline
before the game while the guy was taking liberties with
the national anthem I didn't like and they were showing everybody.
I was like, yeah, Drake May's hair looks a little longer.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
So.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Yeah, it was rough. Kind of a boring game. I,
at halftime, my wife and I watched the show because
there's football Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Speaker 6 (07:41):
Wait, you watched like a halftime show or?
Speaker 1 (07:43):
No, we watched a show.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Oh, okay.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
We went over and watched.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
You know who played the halftime show?
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Was there a halftime show?
Speaker 5 (07:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
Who?
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Mike McCready. Mike McCready and the Soundgarden guitarist with some girl.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
They went full Seattle, huh?
Speaker 5 (07:56):
Yeah, they went all Seattle.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
But what song were they playing?
Speaker 4 (07:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
I think the girl's an artist. I don't know who
she is. But they were there. Those two guys were
her guitarists.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Did you watch it?
Speaker 5 (08:06):
Nah, you can kind of see it in the background.
And then I followed Pearl Jam on Instagram and they
played it.
Speaker 6 (08:09):
It's Taylor Momsen.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Oh, I know Taylor. Mom's in The Pretty Reckless. Yeah,
she's in The Pretty Reckless, lead singer of that. And
then she was also in the Jim Carrey version of
The Green Guy.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
The Grinch?
Speaker 1 (08:20):
She's the kid. Oh, really? The blonde kid, yeah.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
That's cool. Well, there you go. She played the halftime show.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
That movie's not called The Green Guy?
Speaker 5 (08:26):
The Grinch.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
The Green Guy that stole Christmas?
Speaker 5 (08:29):
But that's funny because the mask was also green, right?
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Yeah, but he didn't steal Christmas.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Yeah, he did not.
Speaker 6 (08:34):
He did not.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
The NFL, for the first time in 20 years, will
not have a rookie quarterback starting week one.
Speaker 5 (08:40):
Whoa.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Because think of who the rookie quarterbacks are.
Speaker 5 (08:43):
Fernando.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Really, Mendoza would be the one, and he's not going
to start because Kirk Cousins is. Right. But the rest,
like Nussmeyer's not starting.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
The Rams, I think he's third string because Stetson Bennett
is second. That's right.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
Correct.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Right.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
Who's starting in Arizona?
Speaker 6 (09:05):
Kobe Brissett.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Oh, wow.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
I don't know if Carson Beck is there, but I
don't even know. Is he a backup?
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Why do you keep talking about Carson Beck? You brought
him up in the freaking Hall of Fame game.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
No, no, no. All preseason, dude. He played great.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Then he may end up being the starter eventually at
some point.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
I'd be willing. If that's a bet somewhere, I would
place that bet that he eventually starts this season.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
I think the bet would be he starts by what week.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
I don't know if there's one. Does he eventually start
this season?
Speaker 5 (09:33):
Too many words.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Drew Aller.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Yeah, Drew Aller is not going to start. He's in Pittsburgh, right?
Speaker 6 (09:38):
Cade Klubnick, yeah. But Klubnick is a backup in New
York for the Jets behind Geno, so that's a possibility.
He could start at some point.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Klubnick's funny because all the comments from Jets fans that
didn't watch college going, this is our guy. This is
our guy. Without seeing him play college. Yeah. But, yeah,
it's the only time in 20 years that a rookie
has not started. Wow. Game one.
Speaker 6 (10:01):
That's probably a good thing for them.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
And for us as viewers.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Oh, yeah, I agree. Right?
Speaker 1 (10:07):
I mean, if you're Arizona, I know they paid Jacoby Brissett. Yeah.
And you want to lose every game. Maybe you start
your rookie.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
They say that they don't tank. Like, they swear that
that's not a thing.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
You can't tank as a player because you have a contract.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Right.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
A lot of these guys are trying to get paid.
You don't want to tank as a coach because you
may not have a job. But what you're tanking as
is affecting what personnel are getting to play, who is injured. Like,
when Max Crosby doesn't play the last three games because
he's got an injury, he really doesn't. Or it's so
small he could still play, but they– the GM or
(10:47):
the decision makers that actually do want a worse record,
they will try to affect it by having weaker personnel
be available to the coaches. And then those weak personnel,
they were playing as hard as they possibly can because they,
they want another job.
Speaker 5 (10:59):
That's interesting.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
And it's hard to get a 22 people to tank. Yeah.
It's hard in the NBA, but in the NBA, they
don't tank except for the players don't play bad. They
just put in the worst players.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
So it's not, Tanking isn't the players go out there going,
we're going to suck. No, they're playing as hard as
they possibly can. But what they do is they limit
the amount of minutes for the good or if they
get in at all.
Speaker 6 (11:21):
Yeah, they put in the worst players. Baseball too. That's
where managers and GMs get in trouble or get in
fights with each other because the manager's like, I'm getting fired,
but you're keeping your job, but I had to play
the guys you wanted.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Me to play.
Speaker 5 (11:32):
Doesn't make sense.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Everybody's team this week because everybody's playing now. Your team
is the Patriots.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
You did lose.
Speaker 5 (11:39):
That's done.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
But what are you doing now? Because it's weird you're
not playing Sunday because it's like football has really started
and you've got your game. So yours isn't even on
until a week and a half.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
Oh, my gosh.
Speaker 6 (11:48):
I know that's the worst part. We've got to wait
like 10, 11 days for the next one to try
to rebound. I'll be– but I guess I'm most– is
that what you're answering or asking?
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Well, I mean, you're not really a Tennessee fan.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
No, you're not a Tennessee fan.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Oh, the Vols?
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Are you going to claim it?
Speaker 6 (12:01):
Yeah, GBO, baby.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Let's go.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
Oh, my gosh.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Let's go. Then what game are you personally invested in
that has not happened yet?
Speaker 6 (12:08):
Oh, Texas and Ohio State.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Just because you're interested in that game?
Speaker 5 (12:12):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (12:12):
Just because I love college football and those are two
great teams.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yeah, and fairly. His team already played.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
Yeah, I get that.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Eddie.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
There is no other game that interests me at all
this week other than Sunday night when the Cowboys go
to New York City and play the Giants. Dude, I've
been waiting all year for this. Like, all year for
this game. I am so excited. We're going to find
out who the Cowboys are, too. This is it.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Don't put it all on week one.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
Why not?
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Please don't.
Speaker 6 (12:42):
I'm telling you right now, do not do that.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
You got 17 games, bruh.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
I know, dude. It's so exciting to me that it's
finally here and the Cowboys get to play and it's
going to be on a Sunday night because they get
center stage. There's no other game that's, you know, no
fantasy's distracting me. It's going to be all Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Also, you're playing a bit of a wild card with
the Giants.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
It's one of the teams that You kind of have
an idea of who and what every team is going
into the year, but you got a new coach. You
got year two of Jackson Dart, who is healthy right now.
Year two of Cam Scadaboo. The Giants have a good
front four defensively. So who knows what the Giants are
(13:28):
going to be this year? That's interesting to me, and
I hope you guys run. We own them in our league.
I hope we just run them.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
Just kill the Cowboys from the very beginning.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
But the Giants are one of those wildcard teams where
we really don't know what they are.
Speaker 6 (13:41):
Yeah, and with Harbaugh now, you're like, they're at least
going to be stable, you think.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
Mr.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Consistency. Right.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Mike?
Speaker 6 (13:47):
Texas game for sure. Huge Cowboys fan, but that game
is going to determine a lot, I feel.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
If they don't win that game, I don't think.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
It's their year.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
Texas?
Speaker 1 (13:55):
I don't either because just for both teams because nightmares,
conference schedules.
Speaker 5 (14:01):
Are they in Texas?
Speaker 4 (14:02):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (14:02):
Are they playing in Austin?
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Yeah. Even looking at Ohio State's schedule, they'll probably be favored.
Texas is favored in this game because it's in Austin.
They're a point-and-a-half favorite. But Ohio State will probably be
favored or close to in every game. But they have
to play Oregon. Will you pull up to Ohio State's schedule?
For whoever loses this game, it's going to be tough. Yeah,
(14:23):
Texas is a point-and-a-half favorite. Number one, Ohio State. Number four, Texas.
And you're not going?
Speaker 5 (14:26):
No.
Speaker 6 (14:28):
Did you even look at tickets?
Speaker 4 (14:30):
No. That'd be crazy, I bet.
Speaker 6 (14:32):
Go later in the season when it's not as hot.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
I feel that, man.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
Outside.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
So they got Kent State. This is Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (14:40):
After Texas, then Illinois.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
It's a tough one. And Illinois, they probably won't lose to,
but Illinois is sneaky.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Go ahead.
Speaker 6 (14:45):
Oh, it's at Iowa.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Again, a little more sneaky than Illinois, but go ahead.
Speaker 6 (14:50):
Then Maryland at home.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Sucks.
Speaker 6 (14:52):
At Indiana.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
That could be an L.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
At USC.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
USC supposedly is a lot better this year.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
Then Oregon, so that's three in a row.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
Dang.
Speaker 6 (15:03):
And then they close out with Nebraska, Northwestern, and then
Michigan last.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
So there's three games that they could possibly lose. I'm
not going to count. The Iowa game could be sneaky. But,
I mean, there's three and a half games there they
could possibly lose.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
Who were they playing at the end there? You said
Michigan was the last, but who was before that?
Speaker 6 (15:21):
Nebraska and Northwestern.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Nothing.
Speaker 6 (15:23):
Did you know Chip Kelly's at Northwestern? Saw him the
other day.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
I was like, what? Not even the coordinator, but he's
just there as like a.
Speaker 5 (15:29):
Consultant?
Speaker 6 (15:31):
Offensive assistant or something?
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Yeah, they call them.
Speaker 6 (15:34):
Senior analysts.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Analysts, yes.
Speaker 6 (15:35):
Is that what it is?
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Analysts, yeah.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
Sounds like a good job.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
Would you pull up to Texas schedule?
Speaker 4 (15:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Because I know Texas has got a monster run-in coming
up later with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Oh, there's an L.
Watch out. In Austin.
Speaker 6 (15:46):
I think that's the game I'm going to go to.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Yeah, it should be. You want a guaranteed win.
Speaker 6 (15:50):
Okay, so UTSA after Ohio State. And then at Tennessee.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Okay. It just depends. That freshman five-star quarterback looks really good.
Tennessee has. But again, he's a freshman.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:03):
Then Oklahoma at home.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
That game. That's not at home. It's in Dallas. That
could be a disaster.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Go ahead.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
Florida at home.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
They're going to be better than people think.
Speaker 6 (16:13):
Ole Miss at home.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Might be really good. We don't know. That Louisville game
was not good.
Speaker 5 (16:19):
No.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
But if you haven't heard the story of the Patriots
and the Raiders, then you've not heard a story. Because
they went to the Super Bowl, and they lost to
the Raiders week one.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
Oh, that's right. I just heard that story.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Yeah, no, if you haven't heard that story yet.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Great story.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (16:32):
They'll write a book about it one day.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (16:34):
And then Mississippi State at home.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (16:37):
At Missouri. At LSU.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
You having a good one?
Speaker 5 (16:40):
There you go.
Speaker 6 (16:41):
And then against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:44):
And then at Texas A & M to finish off
the season.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
So I could see two L's there. Yeah, it's an
important game. Good one. I have the Arkansas game. They're
playing at Utah. Arkansas at number 20, Utah. Utah's a
12.5 point favorite. I will have to watch that while
at the Brooks and Dunn concert.
Speaker 5 (17:01):
Fun late game.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Right? 9 p.m.
Speaker 5 (17:04):
Or something?
Speaker 6 (17:04):
Concert's this weekend?
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Mm-hmm. It's on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
If Arkansas beats Utah, I give all three of you
guys $ 100 when I get here on Monday.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Really? Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
So note, don't bet on that game.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
I'm wearing my gear.
Speaker 5 (17:15):
That's already taken care of.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Yeah, just like, you know, I want us all to
have joy if that happens.
Speaker 4 (17:19):
Love that.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
Deal.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
There's no chance. There is a chance. There's a chance.
There's always a chance. And also there's a chance. I
was watching some Utah breakdown. There's a chance. But there's
a reason it's a 12.5 point spread. And I'm not
touching it betting.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
Huh.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
I might take Arkansas 12 and a half, but I
don't think I'm going to touch it. So yeah, it's bad.
We're back though.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
Maybe we're back.
Speaker 1 (17:40):

John Talti, National College Sports Writer for CBS Sports.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Author, he's got a big book coming out called Lane
Being Lane, which I'm going to show you guys on camera.
It's the story of Lane Kiffin, college football's agent of chaos. Hey, John,
I want to start with this first. So we plan
to have you in the studio and we couldn't say
this to you when we were like, don't come, but
somebody was murdered in our building yesterday. jeez so that's
why so i i feel bad and luckily we caught
(19:20):
you before you left and you had to be like
man why did they move this to zoom and now
it's finally made the news but i don't know if
we'd be allowed up here but somebody was murdered like
there was a gun fight it was it's the craziest
thing we can't believe it so a little bit of
me felt guilty for canceling you coming up here but
then i thought when i finally was able to talk
to you and i said there was a murder you
would understand.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
One hundred percent. And I appreciated like Kevin giving me
the heads up because I was just about to get
in the car. I live in Birmingham. I was about
to drive to Nashville. I was like, okay, like I
was excited to meet you guys in person, but understood,
of course. And now obviously I understand that.
Speaker 6 (19:56):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
So crazy situation.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
We want you to come up at some point. I
just didn't even know if we'd get in the building
and literally 80 feet from us, some dude was murdered.
Our producer found his body, like walked up on his body.
That's how crazy it was.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
That's insane.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
So don't hate us. That's my point. Don't hate us.
It has nothing to do with you. It had to
do with murder.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Now to what we're talking about. And so I'm in
the middle of a different book right now called The Wager.
I don't know if you ever read that, but it's
about a ship. But when I finished that, and I
don't say this because mostly... I'm not full of crap.
I do say a lot of things, but I'm not
full of crap. I think I'm going to read this
because I love Lane Kiffin. I hate him, but because
he makes me hate him so much, like I can
(20:38):
appreciate the love for him. So why did you decide
to write this book on Lane Kiffin?
Speaker 4 (20:42):
I think you kind of hit on it right there.
It's he's got that love him or hate him.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
You watch him.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
Right. And he is the most polarizing person, I think,
in college sports, which is exciting to kind of dive
into him in a deeper way of like, what makes
this guy tick? Why does he do the things that
he does? And I think especially like, you know, Bobby,
I know obviously you're a guy who understands college football
and the SEC, like, This guy has just had a
one of one career from the high highs to the
(21:10):
low lows. Obviously, the first person to be a head
coach at three SEC schools. But just even the way
that he can get to close to the mountaintop and
then the way that he seems to leave every place
he's ever worked at. Like I always thought there's got
to be something behind the scenes happening there.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
And so.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
That's a big reason why I wanted to try to
understand like, why is Lane Kiffin the way he is?
And why does he do these things that seem to
both delight and disgust us?
Speaker 1 (21:37):
Would you say, and again, I'm going to be honest,
our listeners, I just got the book. I haven't read
it yet. So I'm going to ask questions. I'm not
going to pretend like I read it cause I just
got it, but I'm going to ask questions that may
be stupid since I haven't read the book. So please
bear with me. Um, would you say the highlight is
getting that Raiders job when he was like 13? And
then obviously he was fired from being the head coach
(21:57):
of the Raiders, but would that be the high for him?
If you were to go, let's look at his career.
Speaker 4 (22:01):
I think it could be, but I think it's also
like such a Lane Kiffin type situation where he had
people in his life telling him don't take that job,
but he was driven, especially at that age. And I
think he still is now it's about a 20 year difference,
but was driven so much by ambition. And the idea
of going from being the offensive coordinator at USC to
(22:23):
being the head coach of the Raiders was crazy. And
it was kind of almost fun looking back at the
headlines at that time where even back then people thought,
this is crazy. And he had gone for a job actually...
the University of Minnesota job and didn't get it and
yet somehow got the Raiders job. And there's a great
story in the book where the Raiders actually initially wanted
(22:45):
to hire Steve Sarkeesian. And they sent one of their
guys to try to find Sarkeesian. He kind of ghosted
Al Davis. This guy's trying to find Sark. He gets
Lane Kiffin on the phone. He's like, where's Sark? What's
going on? Lane's kind of playing coy with him because
Lane was kind of lined up to be Sark's offensive
coordinator of the Raiders. And eventually this guy I interviewed
(23:06):
for the book said, well, Lane, like, would you be
interested in the job? And Lane was like, sure. Yeah,
I think I would be. And so they went from
wanting Sark to somehow ending up with Lane Kiffin. And
people around the Raiders told me really from day one,
they realized this might not end well. And it ends
in one of the the all time press conferences where
Al Davis has a projector as he explains all the
(23:28):
reasons why he hates Lane Kiffin.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
That's crazy. Do you think that Lane, you can't answer
this question right or wrong, but do you think Lane
would be where he is now if his dad wasn't
Monty Kiff and people giving him a bit of credit
for what, not what his dad had done just in,
was Monty a defensive coordinator? Okay, for what Monty had
done in his career, but also that Monty was known
(23:54):
as a stable guy and they assumed Lane would probably
be a product of that?
Speaker 4 (23:57):
I think there's a lot to that. I think you
can look at it in three ways, really. One, obviously,
just growing up in that environment, right? Like, Monty is
an all-time ball coach. Like, he was obsessed with ball,
watching tape all the time. And Lane used to love
trying to stay up and watch Monday Night Football with
his dad and be able to pick his brain, even
as a little kid. So just growing up, I think,
in that environment prepares you to potentially be a football coach.
(24:22):
certainly Monty opened doors all throughout Wayne's early career. And,
you know, we get into it in the book, but
just like how he ends up at Fresno state for college,
how he gets his first graduate assistant job afterwards, how
he gets his first NFL job. Those are all with
people that Monty Kiffin was good friends with. And so
Monty got him, you know, opportunity after opportunity to start.
(24:44):
And then to your final point, absolutely. And it played
a role in him getting the Tennessee job. And also
the USC job where they thought, all right, if we
have Monty Kiffin with Lane, that'll kind of like tamp
down some of Lane's craziness. Monty's a great guy. He's
very personable. He's great on defense. If we pair the
brain of Monty Kiffin and the stableness of Monty Kiffin.
(25:06):
with lane's kind of wild and crazy offense we're going
to win big and it never fully came to fruition
but certainly there were some some moments there some tennessee
usc where it looked pretty good at you know at
a time and there's a big reason why you know
lane kiffin is who he is is because of monty kiffin.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Did you happen to see lane kiffin's halftime speech that
was leaked with the guy recording the ground I did.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
I don't know if anyone has verified that it is
actually real, but certainly seems like we're all taking it
as if it's real. But yeah, I did see it.
It was entertaining.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
I am a pretty good sniffer outer of AI. So
I did, it didn't even resonate to me that it
might be fake because it was shot so granny, but again,
it could have been so good. But if that was lane,
which I would say it was, that was awesome. Like
I wanted to go run through a wall for that
dude giving that speed. It was, it was amazing, right?
Speaker 4 (25:55):
It was. And it's a side of Lane that we
frankly do not see very often. And it's something that
talking to former players and guys who have worked with him,
that's not typically Lane's style. He's a bit more to
the point. Obviously, he can get guys fired up. And
some of the words he used did not surprise me
at all. It is kind of direct. But he's not
(26:15):
always the big pump-em-up guy. It's why he's had... ed
ogeron with him you know throughout his career at multiple
different stops like ed o's the guy who's like ripping
off his shirt and wants you to like run through
a wall like that's typically been others role rather than
lane but clearly like lane you know is growing and
evolving and i think that specifically that video if assuming
(26:36):
it's real showed a side of lane that we frankly
have not seen very often and at least from what
i saw on social media and things like that like
Almost universal approval rating. That's the kind of Lane that
I think people really enjoy. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
And I said on the show, because again, I'm not
a Lane guy, but I'm starting to be more of
a Lane guy because I feel like Lane is now
embracing what everybody feels he is, right or wrong, which
is the bad guy. And the fact that If so,
I love Hollywood Hogan. Now Hulk Hogan, America's hero. Hollywood Hogan,
best bad guy ever. And now if Lane is just
(27:10):
embracing that role of the bad guy, like that makes
me enjoy what he's doing. Do you feel like it
got to a point with him now that he's just
had to go, okay, if everybody feels this way, I'm
just going to say that that's just me.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
I think he's resisted it in the past. Right. And
I think maybe he realized between how he left Ole Miss, the,
the vanity fair piece in which he talked about, you know,
some of the racial issues that he felt like impacted
his recruiting, you know, at Ole Miss, like those things
kind of piling up on each other seem to lead
to maybe more people disliking Lane Kiffin than in the past.
(27:43):
And so it seems like he's embracing this idea of
being a villain, but, but maybe kind of like Hulk Hogan, uh,
It's interesting is that Lane always views that there's a
path back to being a hero. And even I think
both publicly and certainly privately, some of the people he's
talked to that I've talked to, he always views that
if I can just win enough, I can be the
hero again. So deep down, I don't think he wants
(28:05):
to be the villain, but I think he's smart enough
in this moment to realize being the villain can be fun.
And doing the us against everyone has been a successful
sports trope for a long time for a reason. And
I think if he can kind of play the everyone
hates LSU, everyone hates me, let's show them who we
really are, which we got snippets of in that halftime speech,
(28:27):
I think it could be very successful. And it does
seem to be turning some people to his side. It
seems to be working pretty well for him so far.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
Yeah, I hate LSU and I never liked Lane Kiffin.
And I only hate them because I'm from Arkansas again
and we hate LSU. And we hate Texas more though,
but that's not what we're talking about. But again, when
I love somebody that just is consistent with a strong message,
like it doesn't matter. And I feel like he now,
that's so interesting that he feels like there's always a
(28:55):
path to, we'll call it redemption, like regardless of where
he is. Have you spent any time with him? And
did you spend time with him in this book at all?
Speaker 4 (29:04):
Yeah, I was around him some, and I covered Alabama
for a long time. And so kind of was in Tuscaloosa,
Birmingham for the early years of Lane at Alabama, which
were a wild time in a lot of ways. But
I think what's interesting, Bobby, is that I think really
if you go back to the Raiders days, He's been
(29:25):
trying to sell this idea of like redemption and evolution
pretty much at every step, right? I think he realizes like,
maybe I made a mistake. It seems like every single
time he leaves a place, it ends horribly. And then
he's got to clean it up somehow. And he tries
to sell, I'm maturing, I'm evolving. And then it happens again.
And then he does it again. And so it was
(29:45):
kind of interesting to go back through history just and
even when I've interviewed him in the past, like him
trying to sell this idea of like, I'm growing up,
I'm evolving. even going back to 2010, 2015, 2016, etc.
And so I think he's still doing that. I think
he's still trying to redeem himself in some ways. I
think he was able to do a lot of that
kind of PR cleaning up in Oxford. I think it
(30:08):
was in a pretty good place. And then the way
he left, I think, damaged a lot of that, burned
a lot of bridges, certainly back in Oxford. And so
he's trying to kind of clean it up again here.
But I think one thing for is clear of Lane
Kiffin is like, again, there's going to be some great
moments along the way, but you almost have to sign
up knowing that at some point it's going to end horribly.
And I think if you're an OSU fan, you're hoping
(30:30):
maybe we at least get a national championship out of
it before this thing gets weird.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Just going through the memory here, is this only positive
departure FAU? It is.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
And what's interesting, and we get into a little bit
in the book, and it's nothing like bad, but like
it got a little weird at the end of FAU too.
And just the thing is just like they just were
not covered the way, Bobby, we cover the SEC, the
way we cover Tennessee, the way we cover the USC
famous tarmac firing, excuse me. FAU, they were just happy
to have him. They were just desperate for attention. They
(31:04):
were desperate for a guy who could give them some juice.
They loved the Lane experience in a lot of ways.
But I can tell you at the end there, when
he was interviewing for multiple jobs, including actually Arkansas, if
you remember, there was a time where Arkansas was in
the mix. with Lane Kiffin before he ultimately went to
Ole Miss and people there at the time were telling
me like he's off in the side field taking calls
(31:26):
during practice talking to his agent trying to talk to
coaches about coming with him to either Arkansas or Ole
Miss like the week of the Conference USA Championship game
so like That didn't get a lot of attention. They
still won the game. It didn't matter. But it had
the potential to get a little weird, certainly if it
was a bigger school. And we saw that play out,
of course, with Ole Miss last cycle where it got
(31:46):
very weird at the end and a lot of hurt
feelings along the way.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
So I'm a pretty big booster at Arkansas, and we
had Lane. And one of my really good friends, and
on the staff at Arkansas– And that's when Lane took
the Ole Miss job after he had already told us
at Arkansas he was taking that job. And then they fired.
(32:12):
Did you know that story and not say it?
Speaker 4 (32:15):
So I didn't know the. factor and here's the interesting
story you probably know this but maybe your listeners don't
uh he had a connection to the Ole Miss golf
coach and so when Arkansas was happening and he was
telling Arkansas I'm coming now there are people around him
who were I guess maybe skeptical maybe if that was
the only opportunity he would take it but he wanted
(32:36):
to make a run at Ole Miss before he I
guess was all in on Arkansas so he had a
connection to the Ole Miss golf coach and and reached
out to Chris Malloy, tried to say, hey, can you
do anything? Can you get me in the mix for
this job? He went to, at the time, a brand-new
athletic director, Keith Carter, had just gotten bumped up from
the interim, and was like, hey, we need to think
about Lane Kiffin. And there was skepticism about doing it.
(33:00):
One thing, which you might know this, Bobby, but the
Manning family, not the biggest fans of Lane Kiffin, from
my understanding. Archie is still a huge deal at Ole Miss.
He was, you know, I guess they gauged his opinion.
It was not in favor of hiring Lane Kiffin. So
it was a massive risk for Ole Miss to do it.
And ultimately, and it's kind of funny looking back on it.
(33:21):
they had this kind of conversation and one of their
top boosters said, we need a rock star right now
at Ole Miss. Like we need someone who's going to
juice up the base. We need a rock star. And
they got one in Lane Kiffin and all the best
and maybe worst ways of what a rock star can do.
But they wanted to ultimately go down that path to
juice the base. But yeah, you're right. I mean, he
was telling people at Arkansas, I'm coming. And if he
(33:43):
didn't maybe get that Ole Miss golf coach to intervene
on his behalf, he could have been Arkansas's head coach.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
I was told it was done. And then, cause they
needed money. And so I gave him money and I
never got my money back and we didn't even get him.
How stupid is that? I never got my money. I
only gave it for Lane. I never got it back, John.
Speaker 4 (33:59):
Yeah. You got, I think you got gypped there. I got, yes.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
It could have been like a discounted, like, Hey, I'm sorry.
We didn't get you Lane Kiffin. We're going to give
you your money back. We got Sam Pittman instead. We'll
roll a phone call for you.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
The parallels between Tennessee, it felt very, you know, leaving Cleveland,
going to, the Ravens, you know, late night or just
any of this where people just kind of leave and
don't say anything and then everybody hates you after. It
felt very that. And all my Tennessee friends have a
dislike for Lane. That being said, the Ole Miss thing,
(34:34):
the fans also hate Lane as well. Like he's done
that twice.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
He has. And, uh, I was in Oxford the day
he left. And so I was there at the airport
where I don't know if I've ever seen more middle
fingers aimed at anybody. They're like kids walking to the
plane and people are flipping them off. I mean, it
was like it was the full SEC experience in every way.
And and I think that's what's like, again, you wonder
(35:01):
why write a book about Lane Kiffin. It is moments
like that because and I think even Lane would probably
say this, like when you evoke such a visceral reaction
to your departure, it means they cared. Right. And I
think that is like Ole Miss was so all in
on Lane Kiffin. And you could argue like their branding
really became much more about Lane Kiffin than anything else.
(35:22):
Like it became the Lane Kiffin University with Ole Miss
attached to it. And so when he ultimately left after
selling this idea of like, I needed Oxford more than
it needed me. And I grew up in Oxford. People
really bought that and felt very betrayed when he ultimately left.
And it is kind of a repeat of Tennessee and
the way that he left there and the strong reaction
(35:45):
in Knoxville with people burning, I think, mattresses and and
painting the rock everywhere. nasty things about lane kiffin and
that's two sec fan bases right there that are always
going to dislike the guy and that doesn't even count
just your general rivals who don't like usually the head
coach of their rival school so he's uh by far
the most interesting uh guy in the sec at this
(36:06):
point and certainly you know evokes the strongest reactions of
anyone in college football in my.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Opinion i have three questions left how do you feel
pete golding feels about lane kiffin.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
He's played very nice publicly, and I think he's said
all the right things. Now, sometimes you hear different things
behind the scenes, but I think Pete's just a ball coach, man,
and I think he's just like, I'm staying out of
the drama. I'm going to do my thing. I'm going
to just try to do everything I can to be successful.
I think he appreciates that Lane was able to bring
(36:39):
him to Ole Miss. He's got Mississippi roots, obviously, Delta
State guy. I think it was very important to him
and his family to be back in Mississippi, be in Oxford.
So I think he's appreciative of that. But there's a
moment where last season, Lane Kiffin, I believe it was
after the Oklahoma game where they won, where he basically
(37:01):
turned to Pete and was like, we could go to
Florida right now if we want to. And Pete essentially
said like, I didn't come here for you. I came
here for me and I'm staying here for me. I'm
not just following you. So there was certainly some some
divide and some stuff that happened behind the scenes. And,
you know, we detail it in the book, but it
was an all out battle between LSU and Ole Miss
during the transfer portal. Those guys were duking it out
(37:24):
for players. Golden was having to do everything he could
to try to hold on to guys like Trinidad Chambliss
and Kiwan Lacey. while also preparing for playoff games. So
there was some bad blood in that moment. Again, I
think they're trying to let, you know, sleeping dogs lie.
But there certainly was some friction after Lane left and
his staff was trying to do all it could to
(37:44):
raid Ole Miss's best players.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
Why did Saban hire Lane? And what was that relationship
really like?
Speaker 4 (37:53):
So the story that has always been told was that
he realized, and they use a car analogy that like,
Our offense is a Mercedes, but it's about to drive
off a cliff. That's always been a story that I've told.
So I think Nick Saban realized, hey, the game's changing.
I don't like it. I mean, you can remember he
used to complain about the hurry up, no huddle offense.
(38:13):
He hated that stuff. And I think he was like, well...
I'm trying to stop it. I'm trying to get rule changes.
It's not happening. I might as well get my own
guy who can do this. And so there was a
common denominator there. They have the same agent who's Jimmy Sexton,
who many believe most powerful person in college sports. And
so he got those guys together. Lane initially just came
(38:34):
in to kind of spend a week or so as
Alabama did its bowl prep and ultimately Saban decided, I
need to make a change. Let's hire Lane Kiffin. And
How did the relationship work out? I mean, it was
friction pretty much from day one. And those guys are
just very different. And it's kind of funny to see
them interact with each other now. It's almost like I
compare Saban to like that grandfather who can kind of
(38:55):
laugh about their kid being like a wild man growing up.
It's funnier now, but in the moment it was terrible. And,
you know, you have Nick Saban who expects everyone to
do it a certain way. Like this is the process.
This is how we do things now. Lane Kiffin is
like that little kid who just keeps asking why. Why
are we doing this? Why not do that? What about this?
(39:15):
As you can imagine, as a parent, you're like, just
stop asking me questions. Just do the thing. I think
that's how Saban reacted to him at times. It got
bad at times. There was a Vanity Fair excerpt about
my book that came out recently that that details some
of this stuff, but you know, Wayne Kiffin had some,
some off the field things happening during that time in
Tuscaloosa that Nick Saban heard about, didn't love that created
(39:39):
additional friction between those two guys. So it was a,
I think a mutual beneficial partnership. They won a national
championship together. He evolved Alabama's offense that when you paired
it with that defense felt nearly unstoppable and, But did
those guys ever love working with each other? No. But
they both appreciated that they could get something out of
(39:59):
each other. And certainly now that it's been a decade
since they had to work together, it's easier to remember
the good moments and not all the moments when Nick
Saban was in Lane Kiffin's face screaming at him.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
Joey Freshwater. Do you talk about him?
Speaker 4 (40:14):
We do. So, I mean, you know, the stories, obviously,
it's been part of, I think, the Internet, I don't know,
discussion point for a long time. And I talked to people,
you know, who were there at that time. And I
think as one person put it to me, like the
Joey Feshwater stuff got out there for a reason. But
he was asking those things. And uh i don't know
(40:37):
this is 100 true it's actually not even in the
book but someone told me this after i wrote the
book that the joey freshwater name comes from he had
a friend in college and that was the name on
his college roommate's fake id was joey freshwater so all
the way back when he was in college somebody had
a joey freshwater fake id and evidently lane thought it
was a hilarious name was like i'm going to use
(40:58):
that uh so That's the story that I heard. I
don't know if that's 100% true, but certainly the Joey
Freshwater stuff was out and about. And Bobby, I'll just
tell you, like, I don't judge people like do your thing.
But I remember covering Alabama at that time. And like,
I'd get a text at like one 30 in the
morning on like a Friday night before a football game
being like, Hey, Wayne Kiffin's at this bar right now.
(41:18):
And you're like, ah, it feels a little weird. I
don't really remember hearing that about a lot of other coaches.
So he was just out there and visible in a
way that Nick Saban assistants just really were not. And yeah,
lane kiffin's a funny guy i mean joey freshwater is
a funny name there's there's no it's a hilarious line
uh and so that's like that's part of like the
(41:39):
lane kiffin thing too is like there's some dark stuff
there but there's also some funny stuff where he's like
he's got this great sense of humor and quick wit
where he can just have these things that he does
um and so freshwater is one of those like kind
of internet war things that is actually true in a.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
Lot of ways I can't wait to read it. I'm
going to have to wait, actually, until it comes out, though,
because I have such bad vision. If it's like halfway dark,
I can't read paper. I had one of those lights
you put on your head for my bed when my
wife was asleep, and it would wake her up because
I can't see, and I have to read on my
iPad now. So the book does come out next week.
You can pre-order it now, though, I'm assuming, John? Yep.
Speaker 4 (42:16):
Anywhere you buy books, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books A Million.
And if I can, I'll do two quick shout outs.
There's two great local bookstores. There's Little Professor in Birmingham
and Square Books in Oxford. Either one of those, you
can order a signed book today. So you can order
it today. I'll sign it and it'll get to you
the week that it comes out. So love to support
local bookstores as well. But yeah, all your big chains,
(42:38):
they'll all have it. You can order it right now.
It'll be at your house on the 15th.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
Are you saying if you go to those bookstores? Because I...
I'm familiar with, I've written a couple of books and
I know the process of like, you need different sales
from different places. Like it's a whole strategy, but there's
two really cool bookstores. Will they mail them if you
sign them? Can you go and order it from them
and then they send them in the mail?
Speaker 4 (42:58):
Yeah, they can. Okay.
Speaker 1 (42:59):
Say them again then for our listeners, because this is important.
So say it again.
Speaker 4 (43:02):
Yeah. So there's Little Professor, which is in Homewood, Alabama.
I think it's littleprofessorbookshop.com, which is just a great little
bookstore in the Birmingham area. I'm actually doing an event
there on Tuesday night, the night the book comes out.
And then Square Books, it's like a famous bookstore in Oxford, Mississippi.
Google Square Books, Oxford, it'll pop up. I'm doing an
(43:24):
event there on Wednesday. And so both of those places
are You can order a signed book. I think especially
the square books one that gives you an option to
personalize it. So if you want, send it to your mom,
your dad, your son, brother, put in there what you want.
I'll personalize it with anything that you want. People have
asked me to even put bad words in their personalization.
I will do it for you. So you tell me
(43:46):
what you want in there. I'll do it. I'll sign it.
We'll get it shipped out to you and you can
send it to anybody you want to think it might
be a good gift for.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
He will draw a wiener. uh it's not the worst
thing someone's asked me to do i'll tell you that
bobby again i felt bad that we had to cancel
on you the day before but i knew you'd understand
as soon as i told you there was a murder
here because it's so bizarre that somebody was killed right
here uh i do at some point or if you're
ever in nashville i would love to spend some time
(44:11):
with you and do this in person i was looking
forward to it uh do we have the same agent.
Speaker 4 (44:18):
I think we do uh i think that's how we
we uh we may have gotten connected here.
Speaker 1 (44:22):
Or they work together is jerry your agent.
Speaker 4 (44:25):
I work with Ethan, who's with Jerry. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:29):
Ah, that's pretty cool. Okay, we have another reason to
be friends then. Hey, I do really enjoy your work otherwise,
and I'm going to be so supportive of this book,
and I'm actually going to read it. I've never told
a single person that when they've come in and promoted
a book. I'm always like, that seems cool, but I'm
going to read this because I'm so interested in Lane.
And I hate him so much that I love him.
He's like, he's now my friend now, but it's like
(44:50):
Brandon Walker. Like I hated that dude watching him on,
I hated everything about what he would say. Shut up
at Mississippi State. Shut up about knowing everything. And I
hated him so much. I started to enjoy as a
content creator myself, how good he was. And now he's
one of my friends. So Lane to me is like
Brandon Walker, where I just, but I don't think I'd
be friends with Lane because I have artists that I
know that I have these huge personalities and they're the
(45:13):
way they are for a reason. They're successful for a reason.
And I can enjoy their art and understand why they're great,
but I don't think I could be personal life friends
with them. I don't feel like I could be personal
friends with Lane. I feel like our personalities are too different.
Your thoughts?
Speaker 4 (45:26):
Well, one, I think Brandon is great, by the way.
And I think Brandon also, he has embraced that wrestling
heel idea where he knows that there's a show here, right?
The thing that's interesting about Lane is, one, does not
have many close friends. I talked to his childhood best
friend for this book. He really doesn't have many close friends.
And Bobby, I think the other thing that's really interesting
(45:48):
about Lane is that, and I kind of refer to
him as the Wizard of Oz in this book, where
I think because of his tweets and his little quips
and things like that, we think he's this huge personality.
And when you're actually in person with him, he's awkward.
He's introverted. He can be quiet. Like he's going to be,
you know, not necessarily looking you in the eye when
you talk, which again, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
(46:10):
But I just think that fans have this perception that
this guy's like, exploding off the screen uh when you
meet him and it's really not like that and it
was almost kind of funny that like talking to people
that have worked with him at Tennessee and Ole Miss
and things like that where they're like we can't bring
this guy to like donor dinners like if he was
the Arkansas coach we want to get him in front
of Bobby like maybe he can get Bobby some money
(46:30):
they couldn't do it like it'll end horribly if we
try to do that like it like we will actually
lose money if we try to get him in front
of our top donors because it goes so it's like
We'll put him in like a Q & A. We'll
let him do a little spiel. But like we don't
want him in these like these moments because he just
doesn't really know how to communicate. Like if it's not
talking about football, he's not very good at being able
to just like have small talk with you. So I
(46:51):
always thought that was something that's just so interesting about Lane.
And another reason like why I wanted to write a
book about him is just like I think people think
because he's so great on social media, he's like this
hilarious guy in person. And like he's actually very different.
And it's very interesting just how his personality is, which
I delve into the book a lot.
Speaker 1 (47:08):
Oh no. You guys want to say it?
Speaker 5 (47:10):
That's you.
Speaker 1 (47:11):
That's me. Maybe you all will be good friends. Everything
you just said is me. And people, when they meet
me in person, they're like, oh, this guy, either he's
a dick or he's weird. It's like, no, I just,
I kind of am on the spectrum too, a little
bit where it's like, once my microphone's not in front
of my face, everything's awkward. Maybe Lane's my best friend. Oh, no. Okay, everybody,
(47:31):
I hope you go and you order the book, you
get the book. John, again, thank you so much. I'm
really looking forward to meeting you in person. I love
just your writing in general. So thanks a lot. And
I hope you sell so many that you write the
next book about the success of Ryan Silverfield at Arkansas,
because he just comes out of nowhere and wins national championships.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
We'd love nothing more than to do that. Appreciate you
having me on, Bobby. It was a blast. And I
look forward to meeting you in person here sometime soon.
Speaker 1 (47:58):
All right, John.
Speaker 4 (47:59):
Thanks, man. See you later.
Speaker 1 (48:07):
Okay, if you had to pick the Super Bowl today,
and if anybody gets both teams right, we should all put.
Speaker 4 (48:14):
In $ 100.
Speaker 3 (48:14):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (48:14):
Because no one's going to.
Speaker 5 (48:16):
Oh, we might.
Speaker 1 (48:18):
You have to get both teams. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you might.
But I'm saying... It's very much a probably not. So
if anybody nails both teams, do we all agree to
give them $ 100?
Speaker 5 (48:27):
Love it. I'm in.
Speaker 1 (48:29):
You're in.
Speaker 4 (48:29):
You're in.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
Mike, are you in?
Speaker 5 (48:30):
I'm in.
Speaker 1 (48:31):
Okay, so it's $ 300 to the winner. You just got
to nail both teams.
Speaker 4 (48:34):
Dang, that's legit.
Speaker 1 (48:35):
Odds of that are tough. You got to do both. Okay.
Everybody write theirs down so we don't steal each other's.
Because I know what you guys are up to. And
while you guys write it down, let me say the
wait is over. Football is here, and so is DraftKings.
DraftKings is now live in all 50 states, one app
every sport nationwide. And so let's do the parlay. I
(48:56):
got one loaded. I got the best one loaded.
Speaker 4 (48:59):
So bad.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
I got the one. This year is my year.
Speaker 4 (49:02):
Amen.
Speaker 5 (49:03):
You think so? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (49:04):
No dignity, no doubt. So we're going Ohio State plus
one and a half points at Texas.
Speaker 5 (49:14):
Wow. There's no heart in that, right? Just all brains?
Speaker 1 (49:17):
A little bit of heart.
Speaker 5 (49:19):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (49:20):
Of heart.
Speaker 5 (49:20):
Just checking.
Speaker 4 (49:21):
Mostly brains. All right.
Speaker 1 (49:22):
Mostly brains. A little bit of heart. Next up, Oklahoma.
Minus five and a half at Michigan.
Speaker 5 (49:28):
We saw who Michigan was.
Speaker 1 (49:29):
Michigan might not get a yard. Right. Oklahoma's defense is
so good. And then the third is, and you can
throw this in if you don't mind. Throw it and
see what the odds are here, Kevin. And my third
is Alabama at Kentucky. And there's a pretty big spread here,
but I'm checking the Alabama money line because I think
Kentucky has a decent shot to cover. I don't think
Alabama is what Alabama is, and I think Kentucky is
(49:52):
a little more than what Kentucky is. So it's going
to be Ohio State plus one and a half, Oklahoma
minus five and a half, Alabama money line. So when
you get that, hit that. And new DraftKings customers, sign
up with the code BOBBYSPORTS. Spend $ 5 to get $ 200

Speaker 6 (51:08):
You said Oklahoma minus five and a half?
Speaker 4 (51:10):
Yes.
Speaker 6 (51:10):
Okay, Oklahoma minus five and a half. Sorry, the verification
took a little bit.
Speaker 1 (51:15):
I love getting verified. Makes me feel alive.
Speaker 5 (51:17):
You want to just do your face?
Speaker 6 (51:19):
I try that and then it still sends a text.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
Yeah, I get the text too. I do face and
then it sends a text.
Speaker 5 (51:24):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (51:25):
Which, you know, it can get annoying, but it's like,
I get it and it's okay. That is plus 354.
Speaker 1 (51:30):
Mike, that's good enough, right?
Speaker 4 (51:31):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
Because for us to be featured up there.
Speaker 5 (51:34):
Is it plus 300?
Speaker 1 (51:35):
Yes. Or more?
Speaker 5 (51:36):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (51:37):
So that's going to be mine.
Speaker 5 (51:39):
And I like that you threw in a little money
line in there. That to me, that's like my style
of doing things. Like, ah, you know what? Yeah, maybe
not pay that much, but let's throw that money line
in there. It'll boost it up a little bit of,
A little, you know, a few dollars.
Speaker 1 (51:52):
Eddie, that's true.
Speaker 5 (51:53):
That's my little technique.
Speaker 1 (51:54):
I love to do it. Hey, Eddie, that's true. Okay.
You guys want to go to Super Bowls?
Speaker 4 (51:59):
Yeah, I'm ready.
Speaker 1 (52:00):
I'm in. Mine's written down. All right, Kevin, Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (52:03):
Super Bowl is going to be the new... Just kidding.
I want to, but the Broncos and Rams.
Speaker 1 (52:10):
The Broncos' defense is so good. Yeah. And they have
Jalen Waddell now.
Speaker 4 (52:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (52:15):
And if Bo Nix is healthy, which he's had, It
was just crazy when he got hurt, right? Because the
game was over, and he hobbles off when the game
was over.
Speaker 6 (52:21):
Yeah, nobody even knew until after the celebration.
Speaker 4 (52:24):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (52:25):
So, okay, you got Broncos and Rams.
Speaker 4 (52:28):
Boom.
Speaker 5 (52:28):
Where is it this year?
Speaker 1 (52:29):
Los Angeles.
Speaker 5 (52:30):
Love it. So, in Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (52:34):
And Miley Cyrus is doing halftime.
Speaker 5 (52:35):
That's confirmed?
Speaker 1 (52:37):
I believe so. Really?
Speaker 2 (52:38):
Mike.
Speaker 6 (52:39):
I didn't see that.
Speaker 4 (52:39):
Oh.
Speaker 5 (52:39):
Yeah, dude, I didn't see that.
Speaker 1 (52:41):
I don't know. Sometimes I just say stuff.
Speaker 4 (52:42):
Exactly.
Speaker 5 (52:43):
But that'd be cool.
Speaker 1 (52:45):
Maybe I got scintilled.
Speaker 5 (52:46):
Okay, so in L.A. with Miley Cyrus doing the halftime show.
Speaker 1 (52:51):
Yeah, she is confirmed.
Speaker 5 (52:52):
Oh, good.
Speaker 6 (52:52):
Not officially confirmed.
Speaker 5 (52:53):
It's rumored.
Speaker 1 (52:54):
Oh, so it's not confirmed.
Speaker 5 (52:55):
Dang, dude, the rumor got you.
Speaker 1 (52:57):
She's rumored to be confirmed.
Speaker 5 (52:59):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (53:00):
Eddie?
Speaker 5 (53:00):
I have the Cowboys versus the Bills. A repeat from
the 90s.
Speaker 1 (53:04):
That's a good one. That's a good one.
Speaker 5 (53:07):
I think that'd be awesome.
Speaker 1 (53:08):
You, is that your heart?
Speaker 5 (53:09):
No, no, no, no. Just look at the numbers and
you know, everything on paper. I think the Cowboys are
going to, you know, they're going to take the NFC.
Speaker 6 (53:17):
A repeat from 30 plus years ago. Okay.
Speaker 5 (53:21):
And of course I'm going to have them winning. So
there you go.
Speaker 1 (53:23):
Mike was in the womb. Uh, okay.
Speaker 5 (53:26):
Mike, I have the Rams and the bills.
Speaker 1 (53:30):
Okay. So you got two Rams.
Speaker 2 (53:32):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (53:32):
You and him both have the Rams.
Speaker 4 (53:33):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (53:34):
And then you and Eddie both have the Bills.
Speaker 5 (53:35):
We both have the Bills. Interesting.
Speaker 1 (53:38):
Okay. I have the Ravens.
Speaker 5 (53:42):
And the Rams.
Speaker 4 (53:43):
All right.
Speaker 6 (53:44):
Big Rams believers in here except for just one.
Speaker 5 (53:47):
I mean, there's only one team that needs to stop
the Rams. It's the Cowboys. Because yes, if you look
at it now.
Speaker 1 (53:53):
It's Seattle, dude.
Speaker 5 (53:54):
There is Seattle. But if you look at it now,
the Rams just seem like no-brainer. Like 100%. These guys are.
Speaker 1 (54:00):
I just don't think there's a no-brainer ever.
Speaker 4 (54:02):
Right.
Speaker 5 (54:03):
That's why I think the Cowboys are going to be
the ones that stop them.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
So in preparation for the next NFL season, several executives
around the league were asked their thoughts and predictions on
which players and coaches would end up winning the postseason awards.
So they tallied all the votes. And so again, they
did executives... Just executives. So yeah, okay. Are you ready?
Speaker 4 (54:25):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (54:26):
Most valuable player, according to the executives, who do you
think they picked? Or do you guys want to pick
who you think it'll be?
Speaker 5 (54:33):
Yeah, I mean, I was going to go where Kevin
was going.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
Okay, you do who you think it'll be. And I'll
step out because I already see who it is. Or
I can play. This doesn't affect me.
Speaker 6 (54:42):
I think it's going to be Dak Prescott.
Speaker 5 (54:44):
Oh, interesting. I'll go with Josh Allen.
Speaker 1 (54:46):
I'll go Lamar Jackson. Mike?
Speaker 5 (54:50):
Give me Prescott.
Speaker 1 (54:51):
The league executives have selected Joe Burrow.
Speaker 4 (54:54):
Man.
Speaker 1 (54:55):
And if he's healthy, yeah. Yes.
Speaker 6 (54:57):
Five years in a row, if he's healthy.
Speaker 4 (54:59):
I know.
Speaker 5 (54:59):
We say that every year.
Speaker 1 (55:00):
Offensive player of the year. It won't be a quarterback. Okay.
Speaker 5 (55:06):
Hmm. Give me Jameer Gibbs.
Speaker 6 (55:10):
Yeah, that's what I'm going with.
Speaker 5 (55:11):
Jameer.
Speaker 1 (55:12):
I'd have went Bajon. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (55:14):
If he was on a better team.
Speaker 1 (55:16):
Oh, it's a great point. That's a great point. That's
a great point. Then I would have gone Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 4 (55:21):
Love that. Mike?
Speaker 1 (55:22):
Give me Nakua. Nice. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (55:24):
That's good.
Speaker 1 (55:26):
They voted Jameer Gibbs.
Speaker 5 (55:27):
Oh, okay. So me and the execs.
Speaker 1 (55:29):
You and Kevin and the execs. Defensive player of the year.
Speaker 4 (55:37):
I mean.
Speaker 5 (55:37):
Aaron Donald.
Speaker 4 (55:38):
Stop.
Speaker 6 (55:41):
It's got to be Myles Garrett.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
I would have thought Myles Garrett, too. It's got to be.
He has an actual reason to play hard. Yeah. He
played hard without a reason.
Speaker 4 (55:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (55:48):
What's his reason now?
Speaker 1 (55:49):
He's playing on a team that's actually playing for something.
And you have to think, too, the Browns were losing
every game when he was playing. It's tough. So the
teams that were playing offense against him were just running
the ball the whole time because they were trying to
run the clock out. So it's not like he had
a lot of opportunities in the fourth quarter because they
were losing the whole time.
Speaker 5 (56:05):
Good point.
Speaker 1 (56:07):
I would have guessed Miles Garrett. Mike? Give me Will
Anderson Jr. That is who they pick, Will Anderson Jr.
for the Texans. Offensive rookie of the year.
Speaker 5 (56:18):
Jeremiah Love.
Speaker 4 (56:20):
Good guess.
Speaker 1 (56:20):
Is that the only one you think of?
Speaker 5 (56:21):
No. I mean, yeah, I guess. No, there's Tate.
Speaker 1 (56:26):
From the Titans?
Speaker 5 (56:27):
Yeah, the Titans.
Speaker 1 (56:28):
I wasn't saying that like insulting. Because I can only
think of one defensive player that's a rookie that I think.
Speaker 4 (56:33):
Yeah, me too.
Speaker 6 (56:34):
Yeah, I'm trying to think.
Speaker 1 (56:36):
And the only reason I have my guess, and I
happen to be right with who they guess, is because
of fantasy. It's the only reason.
Speaker 5 (56:42):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (56:42):
So to me, it wasn't that I'm so smart and
know all the personnel. No. I've just been studying fantasy,
and this is the person that I made a point
to draft because Charbonnet's hurt. Ah. Yeah, Jadarian Price.
Speaker 4 (56:54):
Jadarian Price. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (56:55):
So I would have guessed him, but only because of fantasy.
Speaker 6 (56:57):
I probably would have guessed Cornel Tate.
Speaker 1 (56:59):
Titans.
Speaker 4 (57:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (57:00):
I thought Caleb Downs just because of the Cowboys. Well,
that's defense. Oh. I don't know. We yell at him.
You stupid idiot.
Speaker 5 (57:08):
Because that's who I had locked and loaded for defense.
Speaker 1 (57:10):
Defensive Rookie of the Year, Caleb Downs.
Speaker 4 (57:12):
Downs.
Speaker 1 (57:13):
Caleb Downs?
Speaker 6 (57:13):
Yeah, that's who I would guess.
Speaker 1 (57:14):
That's who they guessed.
Speaker 5 (57:15):
He's going to be awesome, dude.
Speaker 1 (57:16):
Comeback player of the year.
Speaker 5 (57:18):
Joe Burrow.
Speaker 6 (57:19):
Joe Flacco.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
Every year it's Joe Burrow. Yeah, or Joe Flacco. No,
think different because this one's interesting because it wasn't like
this guy had a bad season. He got hurt.
Speaker 5 (57:30):
I got it.
Speaker 4 (57:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (57:31):
Scataboo.
Speaker 1 (57:31):
No. He was never there to come back. Oh, dude.
Speaker 6 (57:36):
I'm trying to think who got hurt.
Speaker 1 (57:38):
Somebody got hurt. Big deal. We wondered if he was
going to be able to play.
Speaker 5 (57:41):
Was it Bo Nix?
Speaker 1 (57:43):
No, but okay, we're dancing.
Speaker 5 (57:44):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (57:46):
Oh, Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 1 (57:47):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (57:48):
Comeback player.
Speaker 4 (57:49):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (57:50):
Yeah, I think Daniel Jones will be interesting too.
Speaker 4 (57:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (57:54):
Oh, he did get injured at the end of the year, huh?
Speaker 1 (57:56):
Towards Achilles.
Speaker 5 (57:56):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 1 (57:57):
And they're saying he's going to start week one.
Speaker 4 (57:59):
Yeah. Crazy.
Speaker 5 (58:00):
He's crazy.
Speaker 1 (58:01):
Okay, breakout player. You're not going to get this.
Speaker 5 (58:04):
Breakout? It could be. Fernando Mendoza.
Speaker 4 (58:09):
Brock Bowers.
Speaker 1 (58:11):
Matthew Golden from the Packers.
Speaker 5 (58:12):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (58:13):
Coach of the year.
Speaker 6 (58:15):
Diana, I mean.
Speaker 5 (58:17):
What on earth? You're crazy, dude. Vrabel?
Speaker 6 (58:24):
Yeah, I'm going to guess.
Speaker 1 (58:27):
I would have guessed.
Speaker 6 (58:29):
I'm trying to think of a young, who's.
Speaker 1 (58:32):
Okay, I would have guessed Kubiak leaving from Seattle.
Speaker 4 (58:36):
Yeah, to the Raiders.
Speaker 1 (58:37):
Going to the Raiders. If they are mid to better,
my guess would have probably been Kubiak.
Speaker 6 (58:42):
I'll go Schottenheimer.
Speaker 5 (58:43):
Yeah, I'm going to go Schottenheimer because he's going to
take him to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (58:45):
The Cowboys?
Speaker 5 (58:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (58:46):
They pick Brian Schottenheimer.
Speaker 5 (58:48):
Boom! See, we're on the same page, guys.
Speaker 1 (58:51):
I mean, I could have cheated and picked them all.
Speaker 5 (58:53):
No, I know. Thank you for not doing that.
Speaker 1 (58:56):
Do you want to know, in our league, what teams
we drafted?
Speaker 5 (58:59):
Yes! Are you curious?
Speaker 1 (59:00):
Yeah, we haven't told you at all. Because... I.
Speaker 5 (59:03):
Don't even remember.
Speaker 1 (59:04):
Yeah, I have them up.
Speaker 4 (59:05):
Don't worry.
Speaker 5 (59:05):
You got them?
Speaker 4 (59:06):
All right.
Speaker 6 (59:06):
Here's how I got it.
Speaker 1 (59:07):
For those that are listening, we play in a, it's
called a skins league. And we lost five grand last year.
Speaker 4 (59:14):
Right?
Speaker 1 (59:14):
About $ 5, 000. I guess.
Speaker 5 (59:15):
Mine was like two something.
Speaker 1 (59:16):
As a group, yeah. You had 25% of the team. Yeah, yeah.
So the year before, I had my own team. And
I won 4,800 or so. Maybe 5,800. Whatever it was.
And what you do is you draft teams. And if
they win, you win. And if they lose, you don't win.
But when everybody else wins, you have to pay them.
(59:38):
And so it can get out of control fast, but
it can also, you can get way up fast. It's
almost like craps.
Speaker 4 (59:43):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (59:44):
Like it can all go quick and craps.
Speaker 4 (59:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (59:46):
So what you do is there's six of us on
the Zoom, six teams, and you snake draft one through six,
back and forth, 36 picks. And you're wondering, well, there
aren't that many teams. Well, you can draft teams to
win or draft teams to lose. And if they lose,
and you have them to lose, you get money every
time they lose. In the first round, we had two
losers taken, which has never happened before.
Speaker 5 (01:00:07):
Wow, two.
Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
And the reason is not because they don't lose a lot.
It's because once it gets to the playoffs, they have
no chance to make extra money. But who do you
think the two teams to lose were?
Speaker 6 (01:00:18):
First come to mind is Cardinals. And the second are
the Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
That's exactly it. They were both drafted in the first round.
Speaker 5 (01:00:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:00:25):
I had the third overall pick. I think I bid
$ 100 to get the third overall pick. And so, let
me get them up here.
Speaker 5 (01:00:33):
I was confused by that. And I think every year
I'm confused by it. So when you pay or bid
to get the pick or whatever, you have to pay
that money? So that just goes into what?
Speaker 1 (01:00:44):
The final number that we pay. Even last year, I
think I bid $ 100 and we ended up paying the
$ 100 on it. And you just are bidding because if
there's a team you want. Like Matt Stell went first.
Like I have the order.
Speaker 6 (01:00:54):
And he bid the highest?
Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
Yeah, he bid $ 200 for that first pick.
Speaker 6 (01:00:58):
Saw him on a billboard.
Speaker 5 (01:00:59):
I did too.
Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
Matt Stell?
Speaker 6 (01:01:01):
Yeah, his new song.
Speaker 5 (01:01:01):
He's got a new single out.
Speaker 1 (01:01:02):
Yeah, it's good. Yeah. Yeah, it's good. Let me see here.
What would that thread be called?
Speaker 5 (01:01:09):
Our thread? No, I have it. Skins.
Speaker 1 (01:01:12):
All right. No, our thread's called NFL Make Money.
Speaker 5 (01:01:15):
Yeah, Make Money NFL. Nice. Hope we're right. Or we'll
have to change that name.
Speaker 1 (01:01:21):
Okay, so the first pick overall was the Rams winner. Fair.
The second pick overall was the Cardinals loser.
Speaker 3 (01:01:29):
Dang.
Speaker 1 (01:01:30):
I know, quickest I've ever seen a loser pick. And
I think that's going to be a great pick, and
it's going to make them a lot of money. But
I've just been burned doing that because at the end
of the year, sometimes they squeak out a couple.
Speaker 4 (01:01:40):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (01:01:40):
And then also, there's five weeks, four weeks of the
playoffs that you can't make any money at all.
Speaker 6 (01:01:44):
Yeah, Patriots saved us last year in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
Patriots saved us all year, dude.
Speaker 4 (01:01:48):
The whole year.
Speaker 6 (01:01:48):
That too, that too.
Speaker 1 (01:01:50):
Okay, I had a third pick. And Kevin, who do
you think I picked? Because we all kind of had
a pick. I had a pick that I picked. Eddie
had a pick he picked. Signs had a pick that
he picked. And then we just kind of as a
team did the other three because we were all on.
Trying to think who's... And what I factored in was
a team that I felt like was good and would win,
but also strength of schedule.
Speaker 5 (01:02:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:02:12):
So I was thinking, like, the first team that popped
into the Seahawks, but I think they're going to have
a hard schedule and they're playing the Rams twice a year,
so I wouldn't go Seahawks. A good team, strength of schedule... It's.
Speaker 1 (01:02:24):
Too early, but Context clue was what we talked about earlier.
Speaker 4 (01:02:27):
Bucs. Bucs.
Speaker 6 (01:02:29):
Context clue, what we talked about earlier.
Speaker 1 (01:02:31):
Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (01:02:33):
Oh, yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:02:35):
Did you pick the Cowboys?
Speaker 4 (01:02:36):
No, I didn't.
Speaker 5 (01:02:37):
It was his pick.
Speaker 1 (01:02:38):
It was my pick.
Speaker 6 (01:02:39):
Eddie wanted to. I already forgot who you picked.
Speaker 1 (01:02:44):
I picked Baltimore.
Speaker 4 (01:02:45):
Oh, duh. The Ravens.
Speaker 1 (01:02:46):
I picked the Ravens.
Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
Ravens.
Speaker 5 (01:02:47):
What do you think?
Speaker 6 (01:02:49):
I think it's solid.
Speaker 1 (01:02:50):
And that's what I want. I wanted a solid first
round pick. I feel like their strength of schedule... is
on the lower end of strong, and I think they're
going to be really good this year.
Speaker 6 (01:02:59):
Because they didn't even make the playoffs last year. So
they'll play like the third team in each division. Yeah,
they'll be good.
Speaker 1 (01:03:04):
And like mentors a coach.
Speaker 4 (01:03:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
And so I just hear people raving about him. So
we went with the Ravens' first overall pick.
Speaker 4 (01:03:11):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
After that, there was a Dolphins loser. Then somebody picked
the Lions.
Speaker 5 (01:03:19):
Oh, wow.
Speaker 1 (01:03:20):
Then someone picked the Bills. Now, the Bills are going
to have a tough schedule. The reason I didn't pick
the Bills is because I do think they could probably
win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (01:03:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
But if you play a hard schedule and you get
to the playoffs as a wild card, then you win
the Super Bowl, you still don't really make as much
money as you would have if you won 13 or
14 games.
Speaker 4 (01:03:33):
Correct. Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 1 (01:03:35):
Okay, so that was the first six. Then we're on
to the second round. Then they picked the Seahawks. Okay.
The Bengals.
Speaker 6 (01:03:44):
That wasn't you guys?
Speaker 1 (01:03:44):
That wasn't us.
Speaker 4 (01:03:45):
No, no, no.
Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
Because it's Snake. It's Snake. After the Bengals was the Eagles. Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:03:49):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:03:50):
And then now it's back to us.
Speaker 6 (01:03:52):
Oh, you guys want Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
Well, I gave Eddie the option of the pick.
Speaker 5 (01:03:55):
Which I didn't know he was going to give me
the option.
Speaker 6 (01:03:58):
How nervous were you?
Speaker 5 (01:03:59):
Not nervous at all.
Speaker 6 (01:04:01):
You didn't feel any pressure after last year?
Speaker 5 (01:04:02):
No, no, because it was all Bobby's decision. And then
he starts like fumbling.
Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
I'm not fumbling. I had a full grid.
Speaker 5 (01:04:08):
On the Zoom.
Speaker 1 (01:04:09):
No, there's no fumbling.
Speaker 6 (01:04:10):
What do you mean fumbling?
Speaker 1 (01:04:11):
I had a full grid.
Speaker 5 (01:04:11):
He was kind of like rubbing his head.
Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
I was doing a little show.
Speaker 5 (01:04:14):
And then he goes, Eddie, should we?
Speaker 1 (01:04:17):
Nice.
Speaker 5 (01:04:18):
And I go, let's go Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (01:04:21):
So we got the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (01:04:22):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
That's a good one, man.
Speaker 6 (01:04:23):
That's a good one.
Speaker 1 (01:04:24):
Cowboys are in the second round. I do believe.
Speaker 5 (01:04:27):
I do believe.
Speaker 6 (01:04:28):
I like that one.
Speaker 1 (01:04:29):
Then the Pats.
Speaker 5 (01:04:31):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:04:32):
Then the Jets loser.
Speaker 6 (01:04:36):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
Now we're at the third round. Texans winner, Broncos winner.
Now it's back to us. And I'll say this. I
picked a loser in this third round. So who do
you think, because there's been a couple losers so far.
Speaker 6 (01:04:47):
Yeah, you got the Cardinals, Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (01:04:49):
Yeah, there's only been two losers. There's been the, no,
there's been three.
Speaker 4 (01:04:51):
Three.
Speaker 1 (01:04:52):
Yeah, there's been the Jets, the Dolphins, and the Cardinals.
Who do you think I picked as a loser next?
Speaker 6 (01:04:58):
Has to be the Browns.
Speaker 1 (01:04:59):
It is the Browns.
Speaker 4 (01:04:59):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (01:05:00):
Boom.
Speaker 4 (01:05:01):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (01:05:02):
Glad you said that.
Speaker 5 (01:05:03):
I know, right?
Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
After that, Titans loser, 49ers winners, Raiders losers. And after
this third round, it gets to be hard because everybody's
predicted around 500. Yeah. Then it's Chargers. The Chiefs winners
didn't go until the fourth round.
Speaker 6 (01:05:19):
That's nuts.
Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
I would have taken them if they'd have been available
in the fourth round, but I wasn't going to take
them before the Browns losers.
Speaker 4 (01:05:26):
Don't blame me.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
Okay, here we go. Chiefs winners, Packers winners, and then
it's to me. We let Mike Sines pick, and I
don't think it was a bad pick.
Speaker 5 (01:05:37):
But it's a winner.
Speaker 1 (01:05:38):
We picked a winner here. And this one is, we
think they're going to be pretty good, but also the
division they play in.
Speaker 6 (01:05:45):
Is it the Vikings?
Speaker 1 (01:05:46):
I think it's a tough division.
Speaker 6 (01:05:49):
It is a tough division.
Speaker 5 (01:05:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
I picked them because I think they can win their division.
Speaker 4 (01:05:53):
Oh, the Bucs.
Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
Same reason, but no, different division.
Speaker 4 (01:05:57):
Dang.
Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
Different conference.
Speaker 6 (01:05:59):
Different conference.
Speaker 4 (01:06:00):
AFC.
Speaker 6 (01:06:00):
So you have the Texans, the Colts?
Speaker 5 (01:06:03):
Jags.
Speaker 4 (01:06:03):
Jags. Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:06:05):
Feel pretty solid.
Speaker 6 (01:06:06):
That's a good one.
Speaker 4 (01:06:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:06:07):
Because they could either win 12 games and it's like, okay,
they got a good team, but they're also the Jags.
Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
And they could win nine and get in the playoffs
and maybe surprise.
Speaker 4 (01:06:17):
True. That is true.
Speaker 1 (01:06:18):
And it's hard. These backgrounds are tough.
Speaker 5 (01:06:20):
Are they going to live overseas for another month?
Speaker 4 (01:06:22):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (01:06:25):
Know, dude.
Speaker 5 (01:06:26):
I think they're playing. Aren't they playing?
Speaker 1 (01:06:27):
They always do. All their games are. Then there's Bears winners,
Vikings winners, Panthers losers, Falcons losers. I did take a
loser in this. This is the next to last round.
Speaker 5 (01:06:35):
Ooh.
Speaker 1 (01:06:37):
I have a loser here.
Speaker 5 (01:06:39):
This pick kind of struck me. weird because i wouldn't
have thought it but then the more i sit on
it i'm like this is a good pick.
Speaker 1 (01:06:46):
It's such a hard round though six and five and
six because you're out of all the good teams and
all the bad teams you're just at all mids and
so you got to kind of pick which direction you
want the mids yes.
Speaker 6 (01:06:55):
I can't remember if they already got picked it up
the raiders losers raiders losers got picked okay before that
right okay.
Speaker 1 (01:07:03):
Um this one could bite us in the butt The
last two always can bite you in the butt.
Speaker 5 (01:07:11):
Like you said, Kevin, it's really close which way they
can go.
Speaker 1 (01:07:15):
We're screaming 500 here.
Speaker 6 (01:07:17):
But the Bucs already got picked. Falcons already got picked.
Speaker 5 (01:07:22):
AFC.
Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
It is AFC.
Speaker 6 (01:07:24):
Okay. C-South.
Speaker 4 (01:07:26):
Texans. Titans. Stay there.
Speaker 5 (01:07:27):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:07:29):
Oh, it is the Colts. Colts lose. Yeah. Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:07:30):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:07:30):
Would you have picked a Colts winner or a Colts loser?
Speaker 6 (01:07:33):
Oh, gosh. Probably.
Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
Uh probably a loser i know probably though right yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:07:44):
But because i just don't trust daniel jones coming off
that injury and they lost pitman as a receiver yeah
and they i mean the jags and texans are going
to be good so yeah probably a loser.
Speaker 1 (01:07:54):
Yeah uh then giants losers was taken saints winners was
taken bucks winners was taken um and it went snake
that was gonna take the bucks before I was going
to take the Colts loser, but since it's Snake the
other way, Bucks got picked before.
Speaker 6 (01:08:06):
They freaking stressed us out last year.
Speaker 4 (01:08:07):
They did.
Speaker 1 (01:08:08):
Then Commanders loser, Colts winners. So Colts winners got taken
in the last round because everybody was torn. And so
we have one other loser team. Wow. And the last
two picks were somebody picking this team to win and
us picking them to lose. Oh, my. We're scrounging.
Speaker 6 (01:08:26):
Yeah, I was going to say.
Speaker 4 (01:08:27):
I didn't even realize.
Speaker 5 (01:08:28):
I don't remember this pick. I'm trying to think of it.
Speaker 4 (01:08:36):
Jets, no.
Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
Giants, no. Hurt quarterback. Not hurt anymore, but he was hurt.
Now he's just old.
Speaker 5 (01:08:47):
Now he's just old, Kevin.
Speaker 1 (01:08:49):
I think Rico Dow's playing as a running back.
Speaker 5 (01:08:50):
Yeah, he is.
Speaker 6 (01:08:51):
Oh, the Steelers.
Speaker 1 (01:08:52):
Steelers.
Speaker 4 (01:08:53):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
Steelers loser.
Speaker 6 (01:08:56):
That's, I mean, that could be great because the Ravens
play them twice too.
Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
So we have Ravens winner, Cowboy winner, Jags winner.
Speaker 6 (01:09:04):
Ravens, Cowboys, Jags.
Speaker 2 (01:09:05):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
And then we have Browns losers, which I feel good
about that one.
Speaker 4 (01:09:08):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
And then the two that are always tough in the
last two rounds, the Colts and the Steelers losers. Just
go 500, guys. We're good.
Speaker 5 (01:09:14):
That's all we need.
Speaker 1 (01:09:15):
And we'll have our other four win some games.
Speaker 6 (01:09:17):
That's a good one.
Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
Yeah, we felt pretty good about it.
Speaker 5 (01:09:21):
Did you feel weird not having your strategy of doing
winner-loser team?
Speaker 1 (01:09:26):
I couldn't because when I draft, it came back on
the back way, and they drafted Steelers winners, and so
I had to– no, no, after I drafted Colts losers.
Speaker 5 (01:09:36):
You wanted to do winners on that?
Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
They drafted Colts winners like four picks after.
Speaker 5 (01:09:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:09:40):
Because I would have done that.
Speaker 5 (01:09:41):
That would have been the one.
Speaker 6 (01:09:42):
Oh, yeah, like we did last year?
Speaker 4 (01:09:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:09:45):
So that's the team that– make money team that you're
not in.
Speaker 4 (01:09:49):
I'll be rooting for you guys.
Speaker 5 (01:09:50):
You're in the team, though. Do you want in?
Speaker 6 (01:09:51):
No, but I'm going to be rooting for you guys.
Speaker 1 (01:09:55):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:09:55):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:09:56):
Our team, we want the Ravens, Cowboys, and Jags to win.
Let's go, baby. We want the Browns, Colts, and Steelers
to lose. The big Cowboys. Yeah, yeah, big Cowboys.
Speaker 6 (01:10:03):
Podcast here.
Speaker 1 (01:10:04):
The big Cowboys guys here. Did somebody touch your kids
this weekend?
Speaker 5 (01:10:13):
What the... Yeah, dude.
Speaker 1 (01:10:15):
What happened?
Speaker 5 (01:10:16):
So.
Speaker 6 (01:10:17):
We're out at breakfast, me, my wife, and my two kids.
And somebody, our waitress, she comes up and she's like, oh,
you know, kids.
Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
Oh, your kids are cute.
Speaker 6 (01:10:25):
Oh, thank you. And then she just rubs my little
boy's hair, dude. Like rubs his head, like her fingers
through his head. And I'm like, interesting.
Speaker 1 (01:10:35):
Okay. And she was super nice. I was like, whatever.
It is what it is.
Speaker 6 (01:10:39):
And then we went to a department store after that.
And we're looking at buying something. And this guy is
hanging out and helping us. And he's like, Looks at
my little boy, he's sitting in the cart, and he's like, oh,
you're so cute. And he tickled him, dude, in his ribs.
And I'm like, okay, two times in one day?
Speaker 1 (01:10:56):
Like, is this normal? That one feels more weird than
the first one.
Speaker 5 (01:10:58):
Yeah, the first one I feel like it's okay.
Speaker 1 (01:10:59):
Only because it's a woman.
Speaker 3 (01:11:01):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
And the hair.
Speaker 5 (01:11:02):
The hair's fine, like a little brush of the hair.
Speaker 6 (01:11:04):
Okay, but the guy tickling him.
Speaker 5 (01:11:05):
I don't like that.
Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
I don't like that either. Two reasons. One, guy.
Speaker 4 (01:11:08):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (01:11:09):
Two, don't touch his body. All right. Don't touch him
at all. But second, don't touch his rib.
Speaker 5 (01:11:14):
Now, this is a stranger rule, right?
Speaker 4 (01:11:16):
Yes.
Speaker 5 (01:11:16):
Like, if you don't know the parents or the babies.
Speaker 6 (01:11:19):
Yeah, if I know you, like, oh, yeah, yeah. Hey,
this is my little boy.
Speaker 5 (01:11:23):
I feel like I do that, you know, like with,
you know, kids that I know, you know, and their
parents do. I'm just like, ah, a little rib on
the shoulder.
Speaker 1 (01:11:30):
Even if you get a little, like, close, you're like, hey,
or peek-a-boo, whatever.
Speaker 6 (01:11:33):
But, like, to, like, touch, you know, to tickle him,
I'm like.
Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (01:11:37):
That's bizarre.
Speaker 6 (01:11:38):
That's weird.
Speaker 1 (01:11:38):
We're going to leave. What did you say?
Speaker 4 (01:11:40):
Did you punch him?
Speaker 6 (01:11:40):
I didn't say anything. I stuffed him in the fridge.
Speaker 1 (01:11:43):
You thanked him for touching your kid? Yeah. No, I
didn't do anything.
Speaker 4 (01:11:47):
I was like, okay.
Speaker 6 (01:11:48):
The fact that it was the second time in one day,
I was like, okay, let's go home.
Speaker 1 (01:11:52):
Is this just a segment of you bragging how cute
your kids are, though? No.
Speaker 3 (01:11:55):
Interesting.
Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
It's Kevin flexing that everyone wants to touch his kids
because they're so cute?
Speaker 6 (01:11:59):
No, I wouldn't do that. I mean, I don't need
to do that.
Speaker 1 (01:12:03):
But are your toys really cute?
Speaker 6 (01:12:05):
I mean, yeah, they're my kids.
Speaker 1 (01:12:06):
Of course, they're really cute. Doesn't everybody think their kids
are so cute?
Speaker 5 (01:12:10):
Like my second son, I thought he was the cutest
thing in the whole wide world. But I look at
pictures now and I'm like, oh, gosh, he was so ugly.
Speaker 1 (01:12:17):
Like he was so ugly, dude.
Speaker 5 (01:12:21):
And it's nuts because I remember thinking he was the
cutest little baby ever. And I know, and I remember
people would even laugh at me like, he's so cute.
Now I know what that laugh meant. He was not
cute at all. He was pretty ugly.
Speaker 1 (01:12:35):
Have you told him that?
Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
Nah, never.
Speaker 4 (01:12:37):
Will you tell him? You won't tell him?
Speaker 1 (01:12:38):
Nah. He didn't watch this though.
Speaker 4 (01:12:39):
Uh-uh.
Speaker 1 (01:12:40):
Nah, nah, nah.
Speaker 5 (01:12:41):
I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
I feel like except for, but you even thought then
he was cute. I thought he was so cute. Everybody
thinks their kids are so cute.
Speaker 6 (01:12:49):
Until what point? Because my kids are 15, 16 months now,
and I'm like, they're still just adorable.
Speaker 5 (01:12:55):
I think you will always think that they're really cute.
Speaker 1 (01:12:58):
What if in like five years, though, you look at
your second son and be like, dang, he was ugly
when I was talking about him on the show that day.
It's just constantly. He's always ugly.
Speaker 5 (01:13:05):
He's 30 years old.
Speaker 1 (01:13:06):
You just have no idea. He's still ugly. You're like, no,
at 30, you're like, he's a good looking guy, right?
You see him at 25, you're like, oh, he's ugly.
Speaker 5 (01:13:12):
Hey, you guys. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:13:16):
All right, before we wrap this show, here are my
five super hot takes. I actually wrote this when I
was on the Rich Eisen Show and I never got
to it.
Speaker 4 (01:13:24):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:13:24):
Cool.
Speaker 5 (01:13:25):
This is Rich Eisen material.
Speaker 1 (01:13:27):
Well, so I had it and I never used it.
Speaker 5 (01:13:29):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:13:29):
Because I went into that. I'm just loaded because it's
all talk for three hours. Yeah. So you're in and
I don't want to be somebody who's just like scrounging
for stuff. So I had so many segments that I
had planned I never got to do. But this was
going to be my... Five super hot takes on Rich Eisenstein.
And also, I kind of wanted to rattle the cage
(01:13:50):
a little bit. I wanted to talk about Kaitlyn Clark
because I like being a Kaitlyn Clark supporter, defender.
Speaker 4 (01:13:57):
So here we go.
Speaker 1 (01:13:58):
Number five, Kaitlyn Clark is already more important to her
league than any athlete is to theirs right now. Not
the best, but the most important. There's a big difference there.
And then I had, because she had just scored 37
points when I wrote that. Her 37-point performance is another
reminder of the attention surrounding her. So, again, I don't
think she's the best of everyone and their league, but
(01:14:21):
she is the most important athlete in their respective league
right now in American sports.
Speaker 5 (01:14:27):
Hot take?
Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
I don't think it's that hot.
Speaker 6 (01:14:30):
I'm trying to think of a counter of who else
it could be, but when it comes to their sport,
I mean, LeBron is probably the only, but even he's
faded out the.
Speaker 4 (01:14:37):
Last couple years.
Speaker 1 (01:14:38):
He's holding out.
Speaker 4 (01:14:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:14:40):
And there's not really a young person in the NBA
you can point to.
Speaker 4 (01:14:43):
NFL.
Speaker 6 (01:14:43):
I feel like the NFL is going to stay on
top no matter who is the face.
Speaker 1 (01:14:48):
But there's not one dominant NFL person that makes news
regardless of what they do.
Speaker 4 (01:14:54):
No.
Speaker 6 (01:14:55):
I mean, Travis Kelsey is probably the biggest just because
of Taylor Swift.
Speaker 5 (01:14:57):
That's a good point.
Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
You know, I was going to go Josh Allen, but
because of just the play. But yeah, Travis Kelsey is
holding out.
Speaker 4 (01:15:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:15:05):
He's famous, but he's not important to the league. He's just– No.
Someone who gets a lot of clicks. So anyway, that
was my number five.
Speaker 4 (01:15:12):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:15:12):
And then they would go, number four. And they all
weren't sports. That's where I was going to throw them
with the curveball.
Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
Okay. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
Number four was people who genuinely believe in astrology or
tarot card reading should never be taken seriously in anything
else they do either.
Speaker 5 (01:15:26):
I like that one.
Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
Because people that really are like, oh. Oh, you're a Cancer?
I'm a Leprechaun, and we'd go together. Or whatever they are, Capricorn.
Speaker 4 (01:15:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:15:37):
So people who really live their life. Yeah, who believe,
believe it. Because there's no scientific evidence that any of
that is true. Right. Like nothing with horoscopes, none, zero.
Speaker 4 (01:15:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:15:47):
It's fantasy land.
Speaker 3 (01:15:48):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
Okay, number three. Aaron Rodgers going back to Pittsburgh was
more about Pittsburgh being addicted to being pretty good than
chasing a Super Bowl. Because they're not going to win
a Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 6 (01:16:00):
Heck no.
Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
And they could have cut bait. And I think they
have four quarterbacks in that quarterback room right now.
Speaker 4 (01:16:05):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
They could have gone and just lost and done a Miami,
done a Cleveland, done a Arizona, done that. But they
wanted Rodgers for another year. And I think they just
are just kind of obsessed with being a little bit
above 500 or 500. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:16:19):
And that was a time when they cut bait with
their head coach, Tomlin, for after, what, 15, 20 years,
whatever it was. And you still can't cut the bait?
Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
So, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:16:29):
I think Pittsburgh, that organization, is addicted to being pretty good.
Speaker 6 (01:16:32):
Which would be frustrating as a fan.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
Number two, elected officials and judges should have to retire
by age 75.
Speaker 4 (01:16:40):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (01:16:41):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:16:42):
That's it.
Speaker 6 (01:16:43):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:16:44):
There's no reason.
Speaker 5 (01:16:46):
Not really a hot take.
Speaker 1 (01:16:47):
No.
Speaker 5 (01:16:48):
Yeah, man, because we've seen.
Speaker 1 (01:16:50):
We worry if people are 80 driving a car.
Speaker 4 (01:16:52):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
Just straight up. And our last two presidents have been 100. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:16:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
The pendulum's got to swing, but the problem is it's
going to be baby president. It's going to be somebody
super young next. And it could be.
Speaker 5 (01:17:06):
What's the youngest age?
Speaker 1 (01:17:09):
Ever? I don't know. I'd probably put Kennedy as youngest elected.
I think maybe there was a president younger than him
that was put in. Mike, in fact, checked me on this,
but I think Kennedy was the youngest ever elected. Maybe
Bill Clinton was second, but I think there may have
been one that was put in office that was younger
that wasn't elected.
Speaker 5 (01:17:25):
I think Obama was younger than Bill Clinton, right? Possibly.
Speaker 1 (01:17:28):
Mike, what do you see?
Speaker 6 (01:17:28):
Kennedy was the youngest at 43 years old and Teddy
Roosevelt at 42.
Speaker 1 (01:17:32):
Teddy was 42? But he went in... Assassination, yeah. After assassination.
Speaker 4 (01:17:36):
Oh, got it.
Speaker 5 (01:17:36):
Got it. So he was forced in.
Speaker 6 (01:17:37):
But yeah, youngest elected was JFK.
Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
Hey, pretty good.
Speaker 5 (01:17:40):
Pretty good, dude.
Speaker 6 (01:17:41):
How old do you have to be?
Speaker 4 (01:17:42):
35?
Speaker 1 (01:17:42):
I don't... After the pendulum swings?
Speaker 4 (01:17:45):
12.
Speaker 1 (01:17:45):
Okay. Perfect. Perfect. We're going to have teenage president.
Speaker 6 (01:17:49):
Now you can't drive your car because you're not old enough.
Speaker 5 (01:17:51):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:17:53):
And here was my number one.
Speaker 3 (01:17:55):
Rings.
Speaker 1 (01:17:56):
are the most overrated argument in sports. Championships matter, but
we've gotten lazy and we've turned every individual debate into
jewelry and rings. Robert Ori has seven rings. Charles Barkley
has zero rings. Nobody with functioning eyes or a brain
thinks Robert Ori was better. Winning is evidence, but it's
not the entire case. And in reality, none of those
were hot takes. I just say that at the beginning
(01:18:17):
because they all make a lot of sense.
Speaker 5 (01:18:19):
I agree with all of them.
Speaker 4 (01:18:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:18:21):
So that was it. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:18:24):
I feel like it's their go-to argument. But even with Brady,
I'm like, oh, he has the most rings. But he
also was the greatest.
Speaker 1 (01:18:30):
No, it's ring-based. Brady's is ring-based fully. Because if you're
taking a quarterback, you take all the rings away. I'm
not taking Brady first.
Speaker 4 (01:18:36):
Who are you taking?
Speaker 1 (01:18:37):
Peyton Manning.
Speaker 5 (01:18:38):
Oh, stop.
Speaker 6 (01:18:39):
One season. One Super Bowl run.
Speaker 1 (01:18:41):
It's not even that. He was his own offensive coordinator.
Like he actually ran the offense. But I'm not saying
he's better because you have to go– because it's close
and then you go to championships.
Speaker 6 (01:18:53):
Yeah, and then it's not close.
Speaker 1 (01:18:55):
So if you were to say there was never a
Super Bowl played and we're just looking at these guys
playing regular seasons, I'm taking Peyton Manning over anybody.
Speaker 2 (01:19:04):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:19:04):
And then probably Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (01:19:06):
Okay. Okay.
Speaker 6 (01:19:08):
You just like the guys that just talk and yell
at the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 1 (01:19:12):
And does weird stuff.
Speaker 6 (01:19:14):
It's hard to take any of.
Speaker 1 (01:19:15):
Those 80s quarterbacks like Joe Montana because they just didn't
have to throw the ball a lot.
Speaker 5 (01:19:20):
Joe Montana, Jerry Rice connection was.
Speaker 1 (01:19:22):
I think, though, if I were taking, I would take
Steve Young over Joe Montana. I think he was a
better quarterback.
Speaker 6 (01:19:27):
Now we're on hot takes.
Speaker 1 (01:19:28):
Well, because Steve Young could run.
Speaker 5 (01:19:31):
Sure, yes.
Speaker 1 (01:19:31):
And playing in today's league, Steve Young would... fit much
better than Montana. Yeah. He was also a champion, too.
Dan Marino?
Speaker 4 (01:19:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:19:40):
Marino's good. Another one.
Speaker 1 (01:19:41):
Later on, he couldn't move his legs, but Peyton Manning
couldn't move his head and his neck, so. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:19:45):
Rodgers can't move anything either.
Speaker 1 (01:19:46):
All right. That's it. Thank you, guys. Hope you guys
have a good weekend. Eddie's 2017 parlay. We root for
it every week.
Speaker 5 (01:19:54):
Come on, baby.
Speaker 1 (01:19:54):
$ 1 to win $ 10 million.
Speaker 5 (01:19:56):
I think this week I'm going to hit it.
Speaker 1 (01:19:57):
$ 1 to fix the economy. That's what Eddie says.
Speaker 4 (01:19:59):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (01:20:00):
All right. That'll do it. Blow the whistle.
Speaker 4 (01:20:01):
All right.
Speaker 5 (01:20:03):
See you guys.
Speaker 1 (01:20:04):
